Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio Ry Ry. Welcome to NFL Now, presented by IKEA.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'm Patrick Cleavon here in the NFL LA Newsroom on
- 0:24Speaker 1: this Thursday, where we've got a couple more non draft
- 0:27Speaker 1: thursdays before the twenty twenty three NFL Draft. Today on
- 0:30Speaker 1: this show, we have two pretty good offensive lineman prospects
- 0:33Speaker 1: ahead of the NFL Draft. But let's start with what
- 0:36Speaker 1: is new right now coming into the NFL LA newsroom
- 0:40Speaker 1: including a team as we welcome in as we talk
- 0:43Speaker 1: some skilled positions, two of our most skilled position guys
- 0:47Speaker 1: at the NFL Network insider level. It's NFL Network insider
- 0:50Speaker 1: Ian rap Report as well as Mike Garrel Follo. Appreciate
- 0:52Speaker 1: you guys despite the odd glances from Ian, and we
- 0:56Speaker 1: have a team that's not necessarily picking in the Bryce
- 0:59Speaker 1: Young range right now. Taking your visit from Bryce Young,
- 1:02Speaker 1: what can you tell us? It would be the Las
- 1:05Speaker 1: Vegas Raiders who of course have done all the quarterback
- 1:08Speaker 1: homework where at all the pro days and I expected
- 1:10Speaker 1: to visit with all the top guys throughout the course
- 1:12Speaker 1: of the process. Bryce Young is there today the Alabama
- 1:16Speaker 1: quarterback who is certainly in contention to the number one
- 1:19Speaker 1: overall picked by the Carolina Panthers if he has not
- 1:22Speaker 1: taken one. If the Panthers go with CJ. Stroud or
- 1:25Speaker 1: potentially other then presumably Bryce Show would go too. So
- 1:28Speaker 1: why are the Las Vegas Raiders meeting with him? Well,
- 1:31Speaker 1: one would think Mike that potentially they would consider a
- 1:34Speaker 1: trade up to two. I know there were some people
- 1:36Speaker 1: who thought they might end up trading up to one
- 1:39Speaker 1: before the Carolina Panthers made that big move with the
- 1:41Speaker 1: Chicago Bears. Either way, one thing we know about the
- 1:43Speaker 1: draft is you really have no idea, and so it
- 1:47Speaker 1: is better to just do your homework and be ready
- 1:49Speaker 1: for every crazy situation rather than not. I'd say that's
- 1:52Speaker 1: probably the category that the Raiders in right now. Talking
- 1:55Speaker 1: to Bryce Young on his Top thirty visit NFL, now,
- 1:59Speaker 1: we have no idea every Monday through Friday one to
- 2:02Speaker 1: three Eastern on NFL Network, Right, Yeah, selling this one, Ian,
- 2:06Speaker 1: But I would say this, I feel like these teams
- 2:08Speaker 1: who are kind of in the mix for a quarterback
- 2:11Speaker 1: have maybe one or two that they're really identifying, and
- 2:15Speaker 1: in order to cover their tracks, are kind of meeting
- 2:17Speaker 1: with everybody. I think the Raiders understand that there's a
- 2:20Speaker 1: slim chance that they get themselves Bryce Young. But if
- 2:24Speaker 1: we're going to evaluate the quarterbacks, we're gonna evaluate all
- 2:26Speaker 1: of them. We're gonna do a deep dive. This way,
- 2:28Speaker 1: we have a full understanding of the entire class. And again,
- 2:31Speaker 1: if somebody's looking for who we're looking at, they don't
- 2:34Speaker 1: necessarily know because we've kind of met with all of them.
- 2:36Speaker 1: So they were at that Alabama Pro day down in Tuscaloosa.
- 2:40Speaker 1: After Bryce Young met with the head dinner excuse me,
- 2:43Speaker 1: with the Carolina Panthers, he then walked over to the
- 2:45Speaker 1: Raiders table and met with them afterwards. So the Raiders
- 2:47Speaker 1: definitely doing their due diligence seemingly on all the quarterbacks,
- 2:51Speaker 1: including Bryce Young. And you could build a relationship for
- 2:54Speaker 1: you things that may change down the road. Yeah. And
- 2:57Speaker 1: Ian yea god, I have some questions, Mike, were you watching?
- 3:01Speaker 1: Were you spying on their dinner? I was not spying
- 3:05Speaker 1: on their dinner. I kind of have eyes everywhere. So
- 3:07Speaker 1: do you don't act like you don't you do the
- 3:09Speaker 1: same thing that I do much? It's very specific. Yeah,
- 3:13Speaker 1: if in defensive end. If we don't know, Mike, or
- 3:16Speaker 1: if you guys don't know, it's because the Raiders don't know,
- 3:18Speaker 1: because nobody knows until until the actual draft starts, except
- 3:22Speaker 1: the machinations of dinner and movement about the particular restaurant,
- 3:25Speaker 1: which Mike is well in tune too at this point.
- 3:29Speaker 1: But let's look over to a quarterback who was the
- 3:32Speaker 1: number one overall pick. Cam Newton had a chance to
- 3:34Speaker 1: throw at Auburn's pro day. He says, he's willing to
- 3:37Speaker 1: be a backup ian in twenty twenty three. What can
- 3:40Speaker 1: you tell us there? And he listed several of the
- 3:43Speaker 1: quarterback that he'd be willing to be a backup four,
- 3:45Speaker 1: which were basically all of the top guys as you
- 3:47Speaker 1: would sort of think, plus several rookies. So Cam Newton
- 3:50Speaker 1: would be open to, in his words, mentoring a rookie
- 3:54Speaker 1: coming in being a backup for one of the top
- 3:56Speaker 1: quarterbacks and saying, you know what, I will help you
- 3:58Speaker 1: in a way that I don't know if he was
- 4:00Speaker 1: helped coming out, but he probably didn't need it because
- 4:02Speaker 1: he was a pretty awesome quarterback coming out. This is
- 4:05Speaker 1: a tough one for me, Mike, because you know Cam
- 4:07Speaker 1: Newton has not played in a while, and when he
- 4:10Speaker 1: did play, it did not go great. I mean, this
- 4:12Speaker 1: sounds like to me, despite that he looked pretty good
- 4:14Speaker 1: throwing at Auburn prote including throwing to his brother who
- 4:17Speaker 1: is a prospect. To William and Mary, this sounds like
- 4:20Speaker 1: a quarterback who probably has played his last down in
- 4:22Speaker 1: the NFL. And I know it's saying all the right
- 4:25Speaker 1: things and wanting to be a backup quarterback. I just
- 4:28Speaker 1: know looking around the league, most of the backup quarterback
- 4:30Speaker 1: jobs are set, and the ones that aren't are teams
- 4:32Speaker 1: that planned to draft a backup quarterback. I would be
- 4:36Speaker 1: at this point, I would be very surprised if Cam
- 4:38Speaker 1: Newton never played again in the NFL. Well, Cam Newton's
- 4:42Speaker 1: trying to set the record straight because when he was
- 4:43Speaker 1: done in New England, he said I was going to
- 4:46Speaker 1: be a distraction as a backup. What he was saying
- 4:49Speaker 1: was they were going to perceive me as being a distraction,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and that's what he said. Yeah, it's not that he
- 4:55Speaker 1: didn't want to be a backup or was threatening that
- 4:57Speaker 1: he was going to be a distraction. So he's trying
- 4:59Speaker 1: to set the record straight and saying, if you want
- 5:01Speaker 1: me in there, and you want my skill set, I'm
- 5:03Speaker 1: willing to be a guy that will work with the starter,
- 5:07Speaker 1: whether it's a young guy or whoever. He was well
- 5:10Speaker 1: liked in the locker He's always been well liked in
- 5:13Speaker 1: the locker room. I mean, I know that that Cam
- 5:15Speaker 1: comes with a lot, right, I get that part. But
- 5:18Speaker 1: this is not a guy that I really feel like
- 5:20Speaker 1: is a distraction in the sense of he's doing things
- 5:22Speaker 1: to undermine other players. That's never been the case with
- 5:25Speaker 1: Cam Dowton. Frankly, I would explore it if I was
- 5:27Speaker 1: an NFL team and I wasn't exactly solid at the
- 5:30Speaker 1: backup position. But I sort of agree with you, Ian.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of general managers and coaches
- 5:34Speaker 1: out there it was say, hey, I we'll look for
- 5:36Speaker 1: something else where. I don't necessarily agree with that. Yeah,
- 5:38Speaker 1: there's one coach that we do know. I had a
- 5:41Speaker 1: very good relationship with Cam Newton during their time in Carolina.
- 5:43Speaker 1: That is the Washington Commander's head coach, Ron Rivera. Speaking
- 5:47Speaker 1: about the fifth year option for former top ten pick
- 5:50Speaker 1: Chase Young, what can you tell Steria, Ron Rivera is
- 5:54Speaker 1: saying that the health situation surrounding Chaishung and obviously played
- 5:57Speaker 1: sparingly last year, took the entire year to come back
- 5:59Speaker 1: from a very significant ACL injury. That plays a part
- 6:03Speaker 1: in their decision about whether or not pick up his
- 6:05Speaker 1: fifth year option in the beginning of May. That is
- 6:07Speaker 1: not the only decision, that's not the only factor in
- 6:10Speaker 1: the decision for the Carolina Panthers for this twenty million
- 6:13Speaker 1: twenty million dollars so fully guaranteed tech. Remember, they're fully
- 6:17Speaker 1: guaranteed now, so much different than they used to be
- 6:20Speaker 1: when they're originally injury guaranteed, then eventually fully guaranteed, all
- 6:23Speaker 1: fully guaranteed now. So there's injury situation for Chaise Young
- 6:27Speaker 1: and he's gonna have to be fully healthy and ready
- 6:30Speaker 1: to go. And then there's the other situation, which is
- 6:32Speaker 1: the Commanders do not yet have a owner for the
- 6:35Speaker 1: long term. It seems pretty clear that Dan Snyder are
- 6:37Speaker 1: going to sell and probably the coming weeks, potentially the
- 6:40Speaker 1: coming months. These twenty million dollars decisions are often made
- 6:44Speaker 1: by owners in accordance with general managers and coaches. Sounds
- 6:49Speaker 1: like Romerver would like to know what the new owner
- 6:51Speaker 1: thinks before he makes this decision as well. N no
- 6:54Speaker 1: word yet on the future of Chaise Young. Yeah, it's
- 6:57Speaker 1: certainly an explosive player. To God, we can't wait to
- 6:59Speaker 1: see back healthy in the league in Chase regardless of
- 7:03Speaker 1: how this particular contract situation and plays out. Let's look
- 7:05Speaker 1: to a guy who we're looking forward to in the
- 7:07Speaker 1: twenty twenty three NFL Draft. That's Devin Witherspoon. He was
- 7:10Speaker 1: talking about his potential reunion with the former teammate Kirby Joseph.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And there's other news. Michael Quite tell us there Devin
- 7:17Speaker 1: Witherspoon working out for teams yesterday at his pro day.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I was told he was timed anywhere from four one, four,
- 7:23Speaker 1: four one excuse me to four four seven are Daniel
- 7:26Speaker 1: Jeremiah says four four, two to four or four to six?
- 7:29Speaker 1: Who do you believe? Frankly, I believe him. But regardless,
- 7:32Speaker 1: it's in the low to mid four fours for Devin Witherspoon,
- 7:35Speaker 1: which was a really good time. He had an excellent
- 7:38Speaker 1: workout from what I was told from all evaluators on hand,
- 7:42Speaker 1: so potentially could be the first cornerback taken potentially by
- 7:45Speaker 1: the Detroit Lions. I'm told that he spent a good
- 7:48Speaker 1: amount of time with the Lions around that pro day.
- 7:51Speaker 1: So let's look for Debon Witherspoon as a shore fire
- 7:54Speaker 1: what it seems like, although Ian says nobody knows anything
- 7:57Speaker 1: about the draft a shore fire top ten pick after
- 7:59Speaker 1: this workout yesterday. First of all, I agree with you.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I trust Tao Jeremiah White more than I trust you.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Let's talk about another top cornerback who's on a visit
- 8:09Speaker 1: actually today, Joey Porter is on a visit with the Ravens.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Joey Porter Junior, not the other Joey Porter. But remember
- 8:15Speaker 1: Joey Porter played a lot for the Steelers, was very good.
- 8:19Speaker 1: His son is on a visit with the Ravens, which
- 8:21Speaker 1: would be just spectacular and great theater and lots of fun.
- 8:25Speaker 1: And I know it's only a position the Ravens like
- 8:27Speaker 1: a pretty hard look at in the draft. Also has
- 8:29Speaker 1: the latch Vegas Raiders on his visit sheet, and that
- 8:32Speaker 1: is another team that will look hard at the quarterback position.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I'm not sure if it's going to be seven, certainly
- 8:36Speaker 1: would be a possibility there anyway, that is one of
- 8:39Speaker 1: the top cornerbacks visiting a potential quarterback drafting team, and
- 8:43Speaker 1: it gives us visions of perhaps Joey Porter visiting wearing
- 8:48Speaker 1: a Ravens jacket on the sideline. Will be a lot
- 8:50Speaker 1: of fun reaction there. But we do aside from fun,
- 8:53Speaker 1: we do have actual news today, breaking news coming to
- 8:56Speaker 1: the nfl LA newsroom courtesy of you, Mike Garofolo. The
- 8:59Speaker 1: Jets are finally getting a former Packers quarterback book you
- 9:03Speaker 1: it tell us, Yes, it's all happening. It's here, it's happening.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Stay come. The Jets have signed veteran quarterback Tim Boyle,
- 9:14Speaker 1: Packers quarterback who was with Nathaniel Hackett, the offensive coordinator
- 9:20Speaker 1: with the Jets in Green Bay. So there's your reunion.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Tim Boyle and Nathaniel Hackett about to reunite in Florham
- 9:27Speaker 1: Park with the Jets. Tim Boyle's a guy that a
- 9:29Speaker 1: lot of folks liked throughout his career, including Aaron Rodgers
- 9:33Speaker 1: like that. Now we're messing with people now, right, Like,
- 9:35Speaker 1: I don't mean to make light of Tim Boyle signing.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I think he's got a shot to stick around, perhaps
- 9:39Speaker 1: be the primary backup, perhaps be a guy that's gonna
- 9:41Speaker 1: work with Zach Wilson. But obviously the connection to Aaron
- 9:45Speaker 1: Rodgers and the fact that you've got a guy now
- 9:47Speaker 1: that knows Nathaniel Hackett, and if Rodgers is not available
- 9:51Speaker 1: for whatever reason in the spring at any point, whether
- 9:54Speaker 1: it's OTA's or minicamp, or even in the summer with
- 9:57Speaker 1: training camp, because who knows how long this is going
- 9:59Speaker 1: to take, at least he got Tim Boyle there to
- 10:02Speaker 1: run the offense for the rest of the Guess yeah,
- 10:04Speaker 1: at this point, who cares how long it's gonna When
- 10:05Speaker 1: they got Tim Boyle, so there's there's no problem solved. Yeah,
- 10:09Speaker 1: we're good. We've been tracking it all off season. It's
- 10:12Speaker 1: finally here at Thaxts NFL Networking Signers to Ian Rappaport
- 10:16Speaker 1: and Mike garl follow especially regarding the news on Tim World,
- 10:19Speaker 1: we do have news from one of the best receivers
- 10:22Speaker 1: in the NFL. Tyreek Hill had an incredible twenty twenty
- 10:25Speaker 1: two season over seventeen hundred yards receiving one hundred nineteen catches,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and he was talking about his future on Sports Radio
- 10:33Speaker 1: eight ten WHB. How many more years do you think
- 10:39Speaker 1: you can play? More? Do you want to play? I'm
- 10:41Speaker 1: going for Tim Man, I'm gonna finish out this contract
- 10:43Speaker 1: with the Dolphins. Man, and then I'm gonna call it quiz.
- 10:45Speaker 1: You know, I want to I want to go into
- 10:47Speaker 1: the business side. You know, um, you want to be
- 10:49Speaker 1: in the coaching too, right, Yeah, but not for long though,
- 10:52Speaker 1: like I want to, like, I want to do so
- 10:53Speaker 1: many things in my life. Bro ts Keen. And when
- 10:55Speaker 1: the Miami Dolphins come to Arrowhead Stadium this year, guess
- 10:58Speaker 1: what we're gonna do. Guess what we're gonna do. I
- 11:01Speaker 1: hate to say it, man, I hate the thought the
- 11:04Speaker 1: peace sign against y'all. I hate to do it. But
- 11:08Speaker 1: guess what. I'm gonna be y'all worse enemy that day.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna be y'all worse enemy that day. We'll edit
- 11:14Speaker 1: that now, the signals, I know every signal. Y'all got well.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Tyrink is having fun during that interview, but now his
- 11:25Speaker 1: mentions are getting a bit itchy. He says, stop tagging me.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I know what I said. Just having a little fun there.
- 11:30Speaker 1: That's signified by the emotion. Tyrink knows what he's doing.
- 11:33Speaker 1: He's just having fun on the radio show. Let's have
- 11:35Speaker 1: some fun with Jeff Jadea joining us now to talk
- 11:37Speaker 1: about his former team, The Chiefs. They have to look
- 11:39Speaker 1: forward to that, but they also have to fund a
- 11:42Speaker 1: wide receiver because they're still looking after Tyrink's department. Jeff,
- 11:46Speaker 1: what are they doing there? Yes, they are. In fact,
- 11:48Speaker 1: they had Quentin Johnston, the TCU star receiver in this
- 11:51Speaker 1: past week to talk about the possibility of him being
- 11:54Speaker 1: an option there. Now he's gonna be highly coveted, so
- 11:57Speaker 1: he might not be anywhere close to where they're going
- 11:59Speaker 1: to drafted thirty one overall, but the Chiefs have to
- 12:01Speaker 1: start forward to find their wide receiver corps. All they
- 12:04Speaker 1: have back fromast year's groups. Mark was about the scandaling
- 12:07Speaker 1: Sky Moore and Cadarius Tony. Andy Reid is very high
- 12:10Speaker 1: on Tony by the way. He loves his quickness and
- 12:13Speaker 1: his potential. But again, you need to round this group out,
- 12:16Speaker 1: and they've talked about bringing back Justin Watson, who was
- 12:19Speaker 1: a key cog last year they obviously created he didn't
- 12:22Speaker 1: have a ton of options here. So they will be
- 12:25Speaker 1: looking forward receiver in the draft at some point and
- 12:27Speaker 1: they're gonna have to find ways to do this. But
- 12:28Speaker 1: as General Magic Brett Beach said, good thing here, Patrick
- 12:31Speaker 1: mahomes the poop he can play with a lot of
- 12:33Speaker 1: different receivers. Whoever's out there, they'll find a way to
- 12:36Speaker 1: get it done. Looking back to going to having a
- 12:40Speaker 1: generational athlete and Tyree Hill to find him a way
- 12:43Speaker 1: and they were able to do it win the Super Bowl.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs still a pretty good organization with a
- 12:47Speaker 1: pretty good coach and quarterback. Let's talk about another explosive athlete.
- 12:51Speaker 1: You went down to Texas Texas Pro Day, Tyree Wilson
- 12:54Speaker 1: was dealing with an injury. How's he doing and how
- 12:56Speaker 1: was the performance down there well? Talking to his agent,
- 12:59Speaker 1: Eric Burkhard during that workout, he was pretty excited about
- 13:02Speaker 1: just the demand for Tyree Wilson. He's got a ton
- 13:06Speaker 1: of visits schedules. He's been with the Texans this week,
- 13:09Speaker 1: the Bears yesterday. He's going to visit with every top
- 13:12Speaker 1: ten team. And as you mentioned, he had that foot
- 13:14Speaker 1: surgery back in November, and there was discussion about since
- 13:17Speaker 1: he missed the Combine and didn't work out the Pro day,
- 13:19Speaker 1: whether he would do a workout in April for cardson.
- 13:23Speaker 1: He might do a virtual workout, not something where they're
- 13:25Speaker 1: gonna have a bunch of scouts coming and look at him,
- 13:26Speaker 1: but just something that would check the boxes because they
- 13:29Speaker 1: feel like what they're hearing from a lot of these
- 13:30Speaker 1: teams is that workout or not. There's a lot of
- 13:33Speaker 1: excitement about what this kick can do in the NFL
- 13:35Speaker 1: and Seattle the Lions, a lot of teams need pass rushers, raiders.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Very good chance that he's going to be a top
- 13:42Speaker 1: ten pick regardless of workout or not. Yeah, we saw
- 13:44Speaker 1: Lancearli mocked him number two overall. Rising is coming for
- 13:50Speaker 1: Tyree Wilson. Thanks with Jeff Jadia checking out a couple
- 13:53Speaker 1: of things here with us on NFL Now. As we
- 13:55Speaker 1: continue on the show, We've got a lot of prospects
- 13:59Speaker 1: to look forward to, including one of the most intriguing
- 14:04Speaker 1: prospects who's been called a icon. For a look, we
- 14:10Speaker 1: talk with Cody Mack on the Mock Draft. As indicated
- 14:14Speaker 1: on the lower third there, he is set to join
- 14:16Speaker 1: us coming up on NFL Now. We're back here on
- 14:25Speaker 1: NFL Now looking ahead to the twenty twenty three NFL
- 14:27Speaker 1: Draft and Cody Mock is a two time FCS All
- 14:30Speaker 1: American out of North Dakota State, started all fifteen games
- 14:33Speaker 1: in twenty twenty two and won four FCS National Championships
- 14:37Speaker 1: started thirty nine consecutive games and joins us now on
- 14:41Speaker 1: NFL Now a serious contender for most interesting man in
- 14:44Speaker 1: the twenty twenty three draft. He's running a little av
- 14:47Speaker 1: right now, holding the camera dealing with some airplane issues. Cody,
- 14:50Speaker 1: thanks for spending time with us on NFL now, Man, Yeah,
- 14:53Speaker 1: no doubt, thanks for having me on. So coming up,
- 14:55Speaker 1: looking into this draft, I'm going through I see a
- 14:59Speaker 1: Google article that highlights you as an iconic looking FCS
- 15:04Speaker 1: prospect coming to visit the New England Patriots. What's the
- 15:06Speaker 1: reaction for you've been like from other people reacting to
- 15:10Speaker 1: just your look? Man? Yeah, it's just kind of funny.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I figured when I started to grow up the long
- 15:17Speaker 1: hair and decided not to get my teeth fich that
- 15:20Speaker 1: it would it would become something like that. So many
- 15:24Speaker 1: comments about looking like a football player, looking like a
- 15:27Speaker 1: football guy. To you, what does a football player look like?
- 15:31Speaker 1: Is that even a thing? I didn't think that was
- 15:34Speaker 1: a thing. I guess I don't know. And so, Cody,
- 15:39Speaker 1: looking back at your time, there's obviously so many guys
- 15:42Speaker 1: out of North Dakota State the past few years who
- 15:45Speaker 1: have made this Leap who've had successful NFL careers. What's
- 15:48Speaker 1: it been like to be a part of that family,
- 15:49Speaker 1: because your family is a big part of the Bison
- 15:52Speaker 1: family as well. Yeah, you know, there's just so many
- 15:57Speaker 1: good guys that come through that program, Guys that go
- 15:59Speaker 1: on to play at the next level, guys that don't
- 16:01Speaker 1: just just a lot of great people to learn from.
- 16:03Speaker 1: When I was a young guy in the program, there's
- 16:05Speaker 1: so many people to look up to. And then even
- 16:07Speaker 1: as I'm growing up in the program, you get guys
- 16:10Speaker 1: like Dylan Raidens and uh like Easton Cordell Christian was
- 16:16Speaker 1: in my class. Just so many, so many good athletes
- 16:19Speaker 1: that U and great leaders that you can just kind
- 16:22Speaker 1: of learn from and and going through. Of course, you've
- 16:26Speaker 1: evolved your look over the years, but you've also evolved
- 16:29Speaker 1: as a player. Cody looking back, tell us about Cody
- 16:32Speaker 1: Mount the tight end, the receiving prospect coming up and
- 16:36Speaker 1: is that guy still in there? I really think he's
- 16:40Speaker 1: in there somewhere. Um. I was pushing all year to
- 16:44Speaker 1: try to get some kind of tackle throwback play and
- 16:47Speaker 1: never really got it done, just to show that hey,
- 16:49Speaker 1: I can still do a little bit tight end. Uh,
- 16:52Speaker 1: But um, I guess, I guess we'll have to see
- 16:54Speaker 1: you did have the two point conversion right a couple
- 16:57Speaker 1: of years ago in the playoff game. We're looking back
- 17:00Speaker 1: at some of your your your prep football. H this
- 17:03Speaker 1: guy is making plays. He look like you had. You
- 17:05Speaker 1: had number three was deal with some problems. They're trying
- 17:07Speaker 1: to cover you in the secondary. Um, it's it's been
- 17:10Speaker 1: those years, though, Why don't we never go back to it?
- 17:13Speaker 1: You feel like they only had one offensive line throwback
- 17:16Speaker 1: play that we we don't want to go back. Yeah,
- 17:21Speaker 1: I don't know, man, We've done it before too. Uh yeah,
- 17:25Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, got to catch a two
- 17:27Speaker 1: point conversion, which was awesome, but uh yeah, I was
- 17:30Speaker 1: hoping to get some complay. And and we're looking here
- 17:35Speaker 1: at you over the years. Of course you elect to
- 17:37Speaker 1: keep the teeth, but then the hair starts to come out. Um,
- 17:42Speaker 1: you've got this versatility, the athleticism, Cody, Where do you
- 17:45Speaker 1: think you best fit in the NFL? Here on the
- 17:48Speaker 1: offensive line? You know, I really think it's tough to
- 17:52Speaker 1: label myself. I don't want to sound political or anything,
- 17:55Speaker 1: but it really I really don't know exactly Like I've
- 17:59Speaker 1: played tackle my whole my whole career, and uh, you know,
- 18:03Speaker 1: keep comfortable playing guard and playing center as well. It's
- 18:06Speaker 1: really just I mean, whatever a team wants me to play,
- 18:09Speaker 1: I feel comfortable I can do that. And going back,
- 18:13Speaker 1: you're we're looking at some of your success you had
- 18:15Speaker 1: on the field. You saw a tweet where he said,
- 18:18Speaker 1: gotta love some Billy Joel after the game. If you're
- 18:21Speaker 1: if you're picking, is there a particular Billy Joel song
- 18:24Speaker 1: or you're going through albums, what Billy Joel spot is
- 18:26Speaker 1: going on the playlist after a week that might have
- 18:29Speaker 1: been about twenty fourteen. I don't even know. I don't know.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I've maybe listened to a little for the longest time.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Me and my buddies were big into that at the time.
- 18:38Speaker 1: You know, always always fun to harvest old tweets. That
- 18:42Speaker 1: one is exceedingly innocuous and still it still holds up today.
- 18:46Speaker 1: And Cody looking, you've also picked up the violin that
- 18:50Speaker 1: there was a violin celebration. Take us through that, man, Yeah,
- 18:54Speaker 1: I mean it was really just, uh, for our semifinal games,
- 19:00Speaker 1: you know, when we win that one, we go down.
- 19:03Speaker 1: We played the national championship in tex This and for us.
- 19:06Speaker 1: We always uh, we'll always play on the loudspeakers. If
- 19:09Speaker 1: you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle
- 19:11Speaker 1: in the band by Alabama, So you know, it's just
- 19:15Speaker 1: been kind of a tradition where we just kind of
- 19:17Speaker 1: do an air fiddle on the field. And I was
- 19:19Speaker 1: kind of doing that and then one of my teammates
- 19:21Speaker 1: came up and actually handed me a fiddle, and I'm like, no, no,
- 19:24Speaker 1: it don't do it like, I don't know what I'm doing.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I have no idea, and so I started just trying
- 19:29Speaker 1: to play it, and then m yeah, I got I
- 19:32Speaker 1: got a that next Monday, I got a violin lesson
- 19:35Speaker 1: from a sixth grade orchestra class. It's I'm really interested
- 19:40Speaker 1: in Cody, are gonna have to hit you up to
- 19:41Speaker 1: get the backstory of who was holding the violin the
- 19:44Speaker 1: whole game? And it looked pristine by the time it
- 19:47Speaker 1: got to you that There's a lot, there's a lot
- 19:49Speaker 1: to catch up on. But Cody Mount, thanks for spending
- 19:51Speaker 1: time with us on NFL Now. I can't wait to
- 19:52Speaker 1: see where your NFL career starts. Man. Yeah, thank you
- 19:56Speaker 1: so much for the time. One of the best linement prospects.
- 20:00Speaker 1: And there's another. It's Peter Skorinsky. Scorosky number two Bucky
- 20:05Speaker 1: Brooks top five tackle prospects coming in to the twenty
- 20:09Speaker 1: twenty three NFL Draft, and here's a look at his
- 20:13Speaker 1: first draft. Kronski the top rated offensive tackle. A style
- 20:21Speaker 1: of play is technically dominated. Guy not him out of
- 20:25Speaker 1: the play every single down to four quarters. Speed up
- 20:28Speaker 1: on him and make him quit. Peter Skronsky, offensive leman,
- 20:33Speaker 1: Northwestern University. I'm from park Ridge, Illinois, group of Packers
- 20:40Speaker 1: fan in Chicago, which is kind of fun living and
- 20:42Speaker 1: diving with the Packers. My grandfather's name is Bob Scarnsky,
- 20:48Speaker 1: heep playing for the Packers in the nineteen sixties under
- 20:51Speaker 1: Events Lombardi, starting left tackle offensive captain, won five NFL championships,
- 20:58Speaker 1: including two Super Bowls. I think the left tackle position
- 21:03Speaker 1: has changed a lot, you know, the nineteen sixties, But
- 21:07Speaker 1: I think just his mentality of being consistent and being
- 21:10Speaker 1: someone that could be relied on by his team's inspiring
- 21:13Speaker 1: to me and something I strive for it. I didn't
- 21:19Speaker 1: play tackle football until sixth grade, which is a little
- 21:22Speaker 1: bit later than most people. My dad was one of
- 21:26Speaker 1: my first coaches, He's a very stern coach and kind
- 21:30Speaker 1: of a disciplinarian. It's always funny seeing other kids react
- 21:33Speaker 1: to just how like disciplined my dad is as a coach.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Ten push ups when they weren't listening or talking while
- 21:40Speaker 1: he was talking. He's strict like that. At times of
- 21:45Speaker 1: this process, I've kind of stopped and been like, Oh, wow,
- 21:47Speaker 1: this is really happening. Draft night will be my biggest
- 21:51Speaker 1: sort of a wild moment that this is really happening,
- 21:53Speaker 1: and just for the culmination of what I've dreamed about
- 21:55Speaker 1: since I was a kid, found my dream, but found
- 21:57Speaker 1: my grandfather's footsteps carrying nuts crosskey name and coming up
- 22:03Speaker 1: tomorrow on n F. Well, now we've got a couple
- 22:06Speaker 1: of skilled position guys including UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson Robinson
- 22:10Speaker 1: and then Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave, both joining
- 22:13Speaker 1: the show. That's tomorrow one o'clock eastern right here on
- 22:17Speaker 1: inn FL network, looking at what the Jacksonville Jaguars were
- 22:22Speaker 1: able to accomplish in their first year under Doug Peterson
- 22:25Speaker 1: and now looking to the future in Jacksonville. That's coming
- 22:29Speaker 1: up next little bit. Yeah, wine picking number one in
- 22:43Speaker 1: the twenty twenty two NFL Draft all the way to
- 22:46Speaker 1: a playoff berth And here's the changes the jackson seen
- 22:49Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three. Those of the additions on the left.
- 22:52Speaker 1: They do lose Marvin Jones Junior, but they have Calvin
- 22:55Speaker 1: Ridley coming in, also Juwan Taylor. Now we'll play tackle
- 22:58Speaker 1: for the Kansas City Chiefs. For more on the Jacksonville Draguars,
- 23:01Speaker 1: we'll bring in Sarah Waltz. Good afternoon to you. Sarah.
- 23:04Speaker 1: You spoke with Doug Peterson this week. How different is
- 23:07Speaker 1: the draft strategy this year from what it was last year?
- 23:11Speaker 1: Well a year ago, I was camped out up there
- 23:13Speaker 1: in Jacksonville because they had the number one pick in
- 23:15Speaker 1: the draft, and I remember walking out on the field.
- 23:17Speaker 1: It was the first time that Doug Peterson got to
- 23:19Speaker 1: do any hands on work with the players that were
- 23:21Speaker 1: already there in Jacksonville in April. And Doug told me
- 23:25Speaker 1: this week, it's definitely a different vibe, right because last year,
- 23:28Speaker 1: all eyes were on Jacksonville and they held the keys
- 23:31Speaker 1: to the draft. They were on the clock the entire time,
- 23:33Speaker 1: and they controlled what they were going to do. And
- 23:34Speaker 1: he said, obviously it's different when this year you're going
- 23:36Speaker 1: to sit back and wait. They're at twenty fourth overall.
- 23:39Speaker 1: But it is a little bit different in terms of
- 23:41Speaker 1: strategy because a year ago they had a record spending.
- 23:44Speaker 1: In that offseason, they spent more than one hundred and
- 23:47Speaker 1: seventy five million dollars on players, and Doug said that's
- 23:50Speaker 1: because it allowed them to solidify what they needed at
- 23:52Speaker 1: certain positions, and in some ways, he said that took
- 23:55Speaker 1: a little bit of the pressure off of the draft
- 23:57Speaker 1: because they chose what positions they were going to filly,
- 23:59Speaker 1: he said, this year, obviously you're still looking for value,
- 24:01Speaker 1: but now we're really looking for depth. He said, he
- 24:04Speaker 1: feels like they've really filled out this roster. Well, now
- 24:06Speaker 1: they're going to go look for depth. So the Jacksonville
- 24:09Speaker 1: Jaguars looking to get stronger once again after really a
- 24:13Speaker 1: dream season for them. Peterson and their GM Trent Bulky
- 24:17Speaker 1: told me they are never going to be drafting number
- 24:19Speaker 1: one again, and so far, Patrick, they are holding true
- 24:22Speaker 1: to that promise. And that's because they saw so much
- 24:24Speaker 1: improvement last year. Where do they want to see improvement now,
- 24:27Speaker 1: Sir Well, Peterson said that they got a taste of
- 24:31Speaker 1: what it's like having the spotlight on them, and I
- 24:33Speaker 1: believe that most people are going to think this is
- 24:35Speaker 1: the team to beat in the division if you look
- 24:37Speaker 1: at what else is going on there. But he said, ultimately,
- 24:40Speaker 1: while they had a really nice run, we didn't meet
- 24:42Speaker 1: our goal. So he said it's now time for a
- 24:44Speaker 1: reset for this team. And he doesn't want to take
- 24:47Speaker 1: away from what they did last year because certainly it
- 24:49Speaker 1: was such a drastic improvement for the Jaguars, but now
- 24:53Speaker 1: their eye is on something much bigger, and he made
- 24:55Speaker 1: no bones about it. He said, we have to get
- 24:57Speaker 1: better on third downs and he said that's offense and defense.
- 25:00Speaker 1: We got to stay on the field on third down.
- 25:02Speaker 1: On defense, we have to get off in the field.
- 25:03Speaker 1: And then he said they want be better in the
- 25:05Speaker 1: red zone. He said they need to be more efficient.
- 25:07Speaker 1: They can't have those turnovers in the red zone. Any
- 25:09Speaker 1: referenced Trevor Lawrence sort of just catapulting himself into this
- 25:13Speaker 1: next level in the second half of that season. Well,
- 25:16Speaker 1: now Lawrence is going to have another weapon in Calvin Ridley,
- 25:19Speaker 1: who Peterson said is so excited to be there. Peterson
- 25:22Speaker 1: hasn't been able to work with him yet, but we
- 25:24Speaker 1: have seen video obviously of Lawrence working with his new receiver,
- 25:28Speaker 1: and that should alleviate some pressure on other guys like
- 25:31Speaker 1: Christian Kirk, who had an amazing year for the Jaguar.
- 25:33Speaker 1: So things are really looking up in Jacksonville, and they're
- 25:36Speaker 1: excited to get this thing going once again. And they're
- 25:38Speaker 1: certainly excited to have Ridley. Peterson told me they have
- 25:41Speaker 1: watched every single snap he ever took in Atlanta. Patrick. Yeah,
- 25:45Speaker 1: they're coming out a season where in the regular season
- 25:48Speaker 1: they won six of their last seven games, scoring well
- 25:51Speaker 1: over twenty five points per game. Looking forward to the
- 25:54Speaker 1: Jags in twenty three. Thank you to Sarah Wolsh shot strike.
- 26:04Speaker 1: It'll be Robinson to the second level and beyond touchdown.
- 26:08Speaker 1: That's Bijean Robinson under immedia brut off, the chin not escaped,
- 26:13Speaker 1: Will Anderson homes. Oh my gosh, s Trout fires Man,
- 26:16Speaker 1: it is crabbed in the ngue. C. J. Strout. Wow,
- 26:19Speaker 1: it a grow. This week the new edition of Daniel
- 26:23Speaker 1: Jeremiah's Top fifty Prospects. It's the fourth version dropping on
- 26:28Speaker 1: NFL dot Com and it's all tied at the top.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Bryce Young and then Will Anderson Junior, Bijan Robinson, Tyree Wilson,
- 26:35Speaker 1: and Jalen Carter rounding out the top five. For more
- 26:38Speaker 1: on a breakdown of the whole top fifty, including some
- 26:41Speaker 1: guys who've risen up on the board, Here's the Path
- 26:44Speaker 1: to the Draft. Hello, fellow draft enthusiast and mock drafters,
- 26:49Speaker 1: Welcome to the set of Path to the Draft for
- 26:51Speaker 1: at Lewis, Fucky Brooks, and Cythia Freeland. Here with you
- 26:54Speaker 1: Daniel Jeremiah, of course not in studio with us, but
- 26:56Speaker 1: here in Spirits after releasing his latest update to the
- 26:59Speaker 1: top fifty prospects in this year's draft, and we're looking
- 27:02Speaker 1: at the biggest risers that DJ has identified, and pj
- 27:07Speaker 1: O Gillari takes the cake, moving up for forty two
- 27:09Speaker 1: to thirty five plus seven moving up the list, and
- 27:13Speaker 1: then he got a host of players sitting there at
- 27:14Speaker 1: plus four that are going up as well. And again
- 27:17Speaker 1: that doesn't necessarily mean that they did anything right or
- 27:19Speaker 1: wrong to make that move or just getting a clearer picture.
- 27:22Speaker 1: What does that picture tell you about BJ? Fuck? Well,
- 27:24Speaker 1: he does a couple of things that allows him to
- 27:26Speaker 1: grow and rise in the scoutter community. He sped and
- 27:29Speaker 1: he has skills and that a gil who a long
- 27:31Speaker 1: way when it comes to being a edge rusher. This
- 27:34Speaker 1: guy has great first step quickness, outstanding snapcount in anticipation,
- 27:38Speaker 1: plays with a relentless motor so he never stops moving
- 27:41Speaker 1: on the field, and then he has finishing skills. When
- 27:43Speaker 1: he turns the corner gets close to the quarterback, he
- 27:46Speaker 1: knocks him down. That is one of the reasons why
- 27:48Speaker 1: he's a hot, hot commodity in the scout and could
- 27:51Speaker 1: be finding himself in that first round conversation if you're
- 27:54Speaker 1: sitting there as the thirty fifth overall player in this
- 27:57Speaker 1: draft class. So a name to watch as we get
- 27:59Speaker 1: closer to April twenty seventh. Cynthia, let's talk a little
- 28:02Speaker 1: bit about Hindon Hooker. In his rise, Well talked about commodities,
- 28:06Speaker 1: and I'm talking to you about something that's super rare,
- 28:08Speaker 1: which is the quarterback position. And that lift is probably
- 28:11Speaker 1: due to something that I look at to judge what
- 28:14Speaker 1: is the best a quarterback can do, and that's you're
- 28:16Speaker 1: throwing from a clean pocket when you're not under pressure.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Look at what he can do in the deep passing
- 28:21Speaker 1: game when he's not under pressure. That upside will help
- 28:24Speaker 1: scouts forecast what his ultimate ability would be at the
- 28:28Speaker 1: next level, and let's just say it is very good.
- 28:31Speaker 1: I love Hindon Hooker as a prospect as a person,
- 28:34Speaker 1: lot to like their potential face of somebody's franchise down
- 28:37Speaker 1: the road. I'm gonna go to another riser, in fact,
- 28:39Speaker 1: the biggest riser or the highest riser among the wide
- 28:41Speaker 1: receiver group, and that is Jackson Smith in Jigba from
- 28:45Speaker 1: Ohio's state, who actually rose above now NFL wide ales
- 28:50Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson and Chris Olanve whose teammates with back in
- 28:53Speaker 1: twenty twenty one. It was Jsen who actually had the
- 28:55Speaker 1: better production that year for the Ohio State Buck Guys
- 28:58Speaker 1: phenomenal Rose Bowl Game that year too. Didn't get to
- 29:00Speaker 1: see him a lot this year, so I think that's
- 29:02Speaker 1: why maybe now we're just kind of starting to get
- 29:05Speaker 1: reminded about how good of a player this guy is
- 29:07Speaker 1: when he's healthy and all on the field, and certainly
- 29:09Speaker 1: understand why DJ has him as number nineteen on his
- 29:13Speaker 1: top fifty prospects list. Could very well be the first
- 29:16Speaker 1: wide receiver off the board. And you get much more
- 29:19Speaker 1: of this kind of analysis as we lead up to
- 29:21Speaker 1: the draft. Right here, on path in the Draft each
- 29:23Speaker 1: and every weekday, six pm Eastern time. NFL Now is
