- 0:29Speaker 1: I kind of messed up the rhythm a little bit.
- 0:31Speaker 2: But I am Big Mike. Yes, Kennan's in the building.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Lama aka Doctor Waffle aka Viavin know.
- 0:39Speaker 4: We got the phone back.

- 0:45Speaker 1: here related to our resident pilot.
- 0:48Speaker 2: We got Sam in the building with up with up
- 0:51Speaker 2: what up?
- 0:52Speaker 1: And we have our guests, our special special guests for today.
- 0:57Speaker 2: We got Jabbari up from here. You're not a dousingberry, right.
- 1:03Speaker 4: No, no, no, I actually don't even use my last
- 1:05Speaker 4: name general. I just go like all caps Jabari, humming.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Them all right, we're going to m F doo. Now
- 1:11Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Well that's still that's two words, but.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I'm just saying capitalize everything.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, all caps, yeah, all.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Right, We're gonna we're gonna allow you to filter through
- 1:22Speaker 2: here exactly is indeed who he is?
- 1:27Speaker 1: But yeah, j just just getting started, like tell us
- 1:31Speaker 1: who you are, what you do?
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah, what what you where you come from?
- 1:35Speaker 4: For sure? Yeah? Man, my name is Jabari. I'm the
- 1:38Speaker 4: founder of a company called Colors Worldwide.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:41Speaker 4: We have a flagship brand that most people know us for.
- 1:45Speaker 4: It's called R and B Only. And yeah, that's the
- 1:48Speaker 4: reason I'm typically on podcast. But aside from that, I'm
- 1:52Speaker 4: a I'm a father, you know, and a lover of music.
- 1:57Speaker 4: Family man. Yeah.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah, how many kids?
- 2:00Speaker 4: You got one one so far?
- 2:03Speaker 2: Okay? Okay, so you do R and B only?
- 2:06Speaker 4: Yep?
- 2:07Speaker 1: Now explain R and B Only to somebody who doesn't
- 2:13Speaker 1: like to go outside, who was uninitiated me.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Okay, Well, I would say R and B Only is
- 2:22Speaker 4: a brand specifically focused on amplifying R and B music
- 2:28Speaker 4: from pastor present in many different ways. That shows up
- 2:33Speaker 4: in live events is what we got initially known for
- 2:38Speaker 4: our shows that are DJ driven shows that travel all
- 2:42Speaker 4: around the world playing R and B music in concert venues,
- 2:47Speaker 4: arenas and all the like. And it has expanded from
- 2:53Speaker 4: just live shows into media, you know, uh, content that
- 2:58Speaker 4: we that we post on you know, all the social
- 3:01Speaker 4: distribution channels, merchandise as well as marketing. Uh. We do
- 3:07Speaker 4: a lot of marketing, not just for our own properties,
- 3:11Speaker 4: but behind the scenes for artists. Yeah, and and uh
- 3:17Speaker 4: we market artists tours. We market artists like albums and
- 3:20Speaker 4: content and rollouts. So there's a lot. There's a lot
- 3:23Speaker 4: that the R and B only brand touches. But we've
- 3:27Speaker 4: just kind of created an ecosystem for R and B
- 3:31Speaker 4: music in general, and and and everything that we do
- 3:35Speaker 4: is rooted in the amplification of R and B music.
- 3:37Speaker 3: So it's more than just live events.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Far more than live events.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I like the words you use, ecosystem
- 3:43Speaker 1: like that. Yeah, so you said you, I know, I
- 3:46Speaker 1: heard you went to Howard.
- 3:48Speaker 4: Yes, sir, and were gated out of there.
- 3:50Speaker 2: But you got it though, right, I got list brother
- 3:56Speaker 2: for sure. Listen, listen. I did two junior years see
- 4:00Speaker 2: get degrees man.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely out of there. And I know you
- 4:05Speaker 1: started out with this. You started out doing hip hop
- 4:07Speaker 1: like hip hop parties, like yeah, mostly primarily.
- 4:10Speaker 4: I liked I liked that differentiator. Right. So you you
- 4:13Speaker 4: said I started out doing hip hop parties, and that
- 4:15Speaker 4: is very true. I started doing hip hop parties and
- 4:20Speaker 4: I evolved into producing R and B shows, Right, So.
- 4:23Speaker 2: When did when did that start? At? Was that in college?
- 4:26Speaker 2: After college?
- 4:27Speaker 4: Technically my first ever party that I threw professionally, I'd
- 4:33Speaker 4: say where I like charged in the admission was actually
- 4:37Speaker 4: a party bus in college when we were so I
- 4:41Speaker 4: was still in college, but I think I was graduating
- 4:44Speaker 4: and I threw a party bus that you know, we
- 4:47Speaker 4: charged people to get on, and we hopped around different
- 4:51Speaker 4: cities and or different bars and clubs in DC. And
- 4:55Speaker 4: that was my first ever time throwing like a paid
- 4:58Speaker 4: admission party.
- 4:59Speaker 2: How long time you do that?
- 5:00Speaker 4: I think I did it twice. There's a there's a smell.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Was too crazy?
- 5:04Speaker 4: Uh no, it was just like it was wild. But
- 5:09Speaker 4: uh but I I think after that I evolved into
- 5:14Speaker 4: like real venues. And I did a birthday party for
- 5:18Speaker 4: I turned twenty five. And I did a birthday party
- 5:22Speaker 4: for myself and partnered up with the promoter. And that
- 5:27Speaker 4: was my first like and and but that was in
- 5:29Speaker 4: New York after I had graduated, far after I graduated college.
- 5:34Speaker 4: And we did it at a club called Sutra in
- 5:36Speaker 4: Lower East Side. And you remember those days.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Yes, sir, yeah times?
- 5:40Speaker 4: Yeah? I think were you there? Were you at that one?
- 5:43Speaker 4: I think I was the bouncer that you might have been.
- 5:46Speaker 4: It was bouncing. I was bouncing, yeah, yeah.
- 5:51Speaker 1: A load of bounce niggas like you don't seem aggressive
- 5:53Speaker 1: enough to.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Bounce, very quiet but.
- 5:58Speaker 5: Getting up out of there.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, So so that was the first one,
- 6:02Speaker 4: and yeah, and then and then for years after that,
- 6:04Speaker 4: I was just doing hip hop parties and events. And
- 6:07Speaker 4: it was because I was number one, just a huge
- 6:10Speaker 4: hip hop fan. But number two, I was working in
- 6:13Speaker 4: the music industry, uh, and I was working with a
- 6:17Speaker 4: ton of hip hop artists and I just knew a
- 6:20Speaker 4: lot of people, and so I was really just throwing
- 6:22Speaker 4: parties with my friend because we knew a lot of
- 6:25Speaker 4: people and we worked in music. After the years of
- 6:30Speaker 4: doing that, you know, I evolved to playing R and
- 6:34Speaker 4: B sets at the end of the hip hop parties,
- 6:37Speaker 4: and people just wanted to start to come specifically for
- 6:41Speaker 4: R and B.
- 6:43Speaker 3: That became the main draw.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:45Speaker 2: It was act like the point where it's like where
- 6:46Speaker 2: that's when they cleared, like, oh this is well, it
- 6:48Speaker 2: was a route to go.
- 6:49Speaker 4: I've told this story many times, but it's just like
- 6:53Speaker 4: what happened was at one of the hip hop parties
- 6:56Speaker 4: I turned the because I used to host them, so
- 6:58Speaker 4: I would be you know, in DJ booth on stage,
- 7:01Speaker 4: and I and a lot of DJs hated. When I did,
- 7:04Speaker 4: I turned, Yeah, I would turn turned the fader down
- 7:07Speaker 4: on their on their controller or mixer. And I said, hey,
- 7:12Speaker 4: if I did an R and B only show or
- 7:14Speaker 4: event or whatever, I said, but I know I said
- 7:16Speaker 4: R and B only. Said if I did an R
- 7:18Speaker 4: and B only event, would y'all come And I didn't
- 7:20Speaker 4: say it like that. I was like, yo, if I
- 7:21Speaker 4: did RB only event, would y'all come through? Yeah? Yeah?
- 7:25Speaker 4: And uh. And then the whole crowd just roared. And
- 7:32Speaker 4: so I was like, okay, cool. I took that back,
- 7:34Speaker 4: you know, grabbed the money from the door, went back
- 7:37Speaker 4: to my apartment in Englewood, and I was like, man,
- 7:40Speaker 4: I just I just remembered that moment throughout the night,
- 7:44Speaker 4: and I was like, all right, I gotta find a
- 7:46Speaker 4: name for this thing. You gotta do it, but I
- 7:48Speaker 4: don't know what to call it. And then I just
- 7:50Speaker 4: already only I knew what to call it only uh.
- 7:54Speaker 4: And then I was just like, well, you said R
- 7:56Speaker 4: and B only, and just call it R and B only.
- 7:58Speaker 4: And so that's where the name came from.
- 8:00Speaker 2: All right, So what is that first R and BE only?
- 8:03Speaker 2: What was that?
- 8:04Speaker 4: Like?
- 8:04Speaker 2: Where was it? Yeah? So was have that go.
- 8:07Speaker 4: Yeah, it was in Los Angeles and it was actually
- 8:10Speaker 4: we were doing we were doing a surprise pop up
- 8:14Speaker 4: show where I had an idea to do these events
- 8:18Speaker 4: called Tonight, And basically the idea with Tonight was that
- 8:23Speaker 4: it was you just found out about that show the
- 8:26Speaker 4: day of right, So I did in really small venues,
- 8:29Speaker 4: like maybe one hundred and fifty people, maybe two hundred
- 8:31Speaker 4: people something like that, and I had I was like,
- 8:35Speaker 4: you know what, I got this thing called Tonight already
- 8:37Speaker 4: that's different from Colors, which is my parent company. Now
- 8:41Speaker 4: the company is called Colors Worldwide. And again the brand,
- 8:45Speaker 4: our most popular brand, is called R and B only.
- 8:48Speaker 4: But at the time I was just testing this pop
- 8:52Speaker 4: up event out and then I called it Tonight R
- 8:56Speaker 4: and BE only. So when I did that, I sent
- 9:01Speaker 4: the RSVP link out, A bunch of people showed up,
- 9:04Speaker 4: way more people that showed up than that had actually RSVP'd.
- 9:08Speaker 4: So the place was packed and I think it was
- 9:09Speaker 4: about two hundred people like the first the first one,
- 9:13Speaker 4: and so then I was like, all right, let me
- 9:14Speaker 4: try this again, dropped it Tonight off of the event
- 9:18Speaker 4: and I just called this next one R and B only,
- 9:21Speaker 4: and then it was like four hundred people, and so
- 9:23Speaker 4: like the four hundred people was already the size of
- 9:28Speaker 4: the normal colors parties that I was doing right right,
- 9:32Speaker 4: and so I was like, this is the second one,
- 9:34Speaker 4: and it's already at the same size. And then I
- 9:36Speaker 4: did it again, and then it was like six hundred people,
- 9:39Speaker 4: and I kept having to move up in venue. So
- 9:41Speaker 4: at this time I was still the first few ones.
- 9:43Speaker 4: I was still doing the hip hop thing, but the
- 9:46Speaker 4: R and B only show had surpassed what the hip
- 9:49Speaker 4: hop thing was doing so quickly too. Yeah, And I
- 9:51Speaker 4: was like, I think, I think there's more legs with
- 9:54Speaker 4: this event because.
- 9:57Speaker 2: You say.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Unique, it's unique. I mean it's funny, like you know,
- 10:02Speaker 4: no pun intended, but like I wasn't trying to do
- 10:05Speaker 4: a double entendre there. But when I say more legs,
- 10:09Speaker 4: there's literally way more women like coming to this event.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Because the women would come to the hip hop event,
- 10:18Speaker 4: but a lot of times they would come at the
- 10:20Speaker 4: end of the show. They would come like just to
- 10:22Speaker 4: hear the R and B. And I was like, you know,
- 10:25Speaker 4: and this isn't you know, you look ten years ago,
- 10:29Speaker 4: so we're talking about like peak little UZI vert asap
- 10:34Speaker 4: ferg This is like that CARDI Yeah, you know what
- 10:37Speaker 4: I'm saying. This is like that kind of turn hip hop,
- 10:42Speaker 4: you know what I mean?
- 10:43Speaker 2: The ladies.
- 10:44Speaker 4: Yeah, and it was hell of fun, right but it
- 10:47Speaker 4: was I mean, we were it was those shows were
- 10:52Speaker 4: kind of dangerous, you know what I mean. And it
- 10:54Speaker 4: was just like a lot of energy and it was dope,
- 10:57Speaker 4: but it was just people were leaving, like really sweaty.
- 11:00Speaker 2: And safe, sexy place for women. Yeah.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Yeah, and and not the spot I gotta I gotta
- 11:07Speaker 4: shout out like all the just just l a man.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Because I was doing these events in LA, New York
- 11:13Speaker 4: and d C, but specifically in LA. This was a
- 11:17Speaker 4: time when uh, you know, we were it was it
- 11:22Speaker 4: was heavy bottle service v P type of like culture
- 11:27Speaker 4: and energy. But I came to the city, you know
- 11:31Speaker 4: a few years earlier, and such a diverse group of people,
- 11:36Speaker 4: like you know, you had you had the streets in there,
- 11:39Speaker 4: you had the you had the collegiate people in there.
- 11:41Speaker 4: You have people who just like were from the city,
- 11:44Speaker 4: and they really like the whole city of Los Angeles
- 11:47Speaker 4: really embraced me and open welcomed me with open arms,
- 11:50Speaker 4: and I just always respect the city for that. You know,
- 11:53Speaker 4: I always try to give back to the city because
- 11:57Speaker 4: they really you know, let someone who was not from
- 12:00Speaker 4: there really you know, provide a space experience for people.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it was cool, and I feel like you probably
- 12:06Speaker 1: couldn't cultivate an environment like that, or it would be
- 12:09Speaker 1: a lot harder to do that if you were just
- 12:11Speaker 1: doing the hip hop space.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I think yeah, probably you know what I mean,
- 12:17Speaker 4: like and so yeah, I mean it just it just
- 12:20Speaker 4: it just kept growing. R and B only started to
- 12:24Speaker 4: take off and yeah, man, you know, now we're here
- 12:27Speaker 4: ten years later.
- 12:29Speaker 6: Hey man, that's the ten years. You got to target
- 12:31Speaker 6: the women. The women are the peak audiences because they're
- 12:34Speaker 6: actually the loyal ones, like they'll.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Yeah, they're gonta spend the bread. They're gonna spend the bread.
- 12:38Speaker 2: If they fuck with you, they're gonna spend the money.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Niggas are cheap, yes, women are not. Yes.
- 12:44Speaker 1: So anybody starting to business out there, target the women.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Target the women.
- 12:48Speaker 4: Yeah. Disposable income is key. Ye, people with disposable income
- 12:54Speaker 4: and that want to spend. Yeah, it's a it's a
- 12:59Speaker 4: always like young entrepreneurs like, are you when you when
- 13:03Speaker 4: you think about the tam right, total addressable market of
- 13:07Speaker 4: a business and a business opportunity. You know, if people
- 13:12Speaker 4: if your if your audience barely has any money to spend,
- 13:15Speaker 4: you know what I mean, just like basic life necessities,
- 13:19Speaker 4: then they're probably not going to have a lot of
- 13:21Speaker 4: money to spend on your product. So you want to
- 13:23Speaker 4: you want to shoot for like an audience with disposable
- 13:26Speaker 4: income and a wide total addressable market. Right And I
- 13:30Speaker 4: and I knew that if I honed into R and
- 13:32Speaker 4: B music, they weren't really being served in a way
- 13:35Speaker 4: that I felt like I could serve them, right, Yeah,
- 13:38Speaker 4: I thought, I thought it was a pretty big market,
- 13:40Speaker 4: and I'm seeing now that it's even larger than I could. Yeah,
- 13:45Speaker 4: you know what I mean?
- 13:45Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 13:46Speaker 3: Yeah, So what does that look like scaling from like
- 13:50Speaker 3: the l A clubs to a national level? Like, what
- 13:53Speaker 3: were the what was the first step in that?
- 13:56Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 13:57Speaker 4: So the first step was learning how to use face
- 14:00Speaker 4: book ads? Okay, that was the first step for sure.
- 14:04Speaker 4: So the LA, DC and New York were all places
- 14:08Speaker 4: that I had relationships in, so you know, I could
- 14:13Speaker 4: text one hundred people in those cities and get my
- 14:16Speaker 4: friends and their friends and their friends to come out.
- 14:19Speaker 4: It wasn't until I started to understand how to utilize
- 14:24Speaker 4: digital ads, specifically on Facebook, that I could figure out
- 14:29Speaker 4: how to get people in a city like Orlando, Florida,
- 14:31Speaker 4: which was the first city I expanded to that I
- 14:35Speaker 4: didn't know anyone in and once I did the Orlando show,
- 14:39Speaker 4: we had about eight hundred people come and again out
- 14:42Speaker 4: of know one person in Orlando, right, but I understood
- 14:47Speaker 4: how to like utilize the budget get people to sign
- 14:50Speaker 4: up for the event. I specifically wanted people in the
- 14:53Speaker 4: first shows that I was expanding markets. I never charged people.
- 15:01Speaker 4: I did free RSVP before a certain time because to me,
- 15:05Speaker 4: the payment was getting the ability to communicate with that person.
- 15:10Speaker 4: That was the payment, because I knew relationship exactly that
- 15:14Speaker 4: if I had your phone number and email, it would
- 15:17Speaker 4: probably take a lot for you to unsubscribe, you know
- 15:19Speaker 4: what I mean. And I also wanted to incentivize people
- 15:23Speaker 4: for getting there early, so I always worked out bar
- 15:26Speaker 4: deals with the venues that I was that I was
- 15:28Speaker 4: working with, because if I could say, all right, this
- 15:31Speaker 4: ticket gets you here free with the rs VP before
- 15:34Speaker 4: nine thirty, then I knew that people would come early
- 15:37Speaker 4: and the earlier they'd be there they'd be drinking more.
- 15:39Speaker 4: The longer and the longer they'll be running the bar up.
- 15:42Speaker 4: There we go, and that's you know, that's that's that's
- 15:45Speaker 4: how that's how the audience was grown. You know, it's
- 15:47Speaker 4: just doing those type of deal structures and getting people's
- 15:51Speaker 4: emails and phone numbers before we just moved to a
- 15:54Speaker 4: completely paid ticket model.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Okay, so.
- 16:00Speaker 1: When and I know you guys, you guys were there
- 16:02Speaker 1: like two years ago, right, I've been todd you've been
- 16:05Speaker 1: a few of them. Yea, I've been to the first
- 16:06Speaker 1: one I went to. Yeah, I did a New Year's
- 16:08Speaker 1: Eve up in Upper Derby.
- 16:09Speaker 4: Oh wow, that's ago.
- 16:11Speaker 2: That was a minute ago exactly.
- 16:13Speaker 6: So I was one of the people that got the tickets,
- 16:15Speaker 6: that got the drinks at the bar.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Will show up early listen, man.
- 16:20Speaker 6: Because because that's my space R and B, like the
- 16:23Speaker 6: Hippiie Hop, they can keep all that. I'm trying to
- 16:27Speaker 6: beat my feels, I'm trying to vibe out. I'm trying
- 16:30Speaker 6: to sing at the top of my heart. So I
- 16:32Speaker 6: actually seen it on Facebook the Wow. So I was like, oh,
- 16:36Speaker 6: so we put in the chap like you know, anybody
- 16:38Speaker 6: trying to go to New year's eve, R and Be
- 16:40Speaker 6: only got a couple of people to go.
- 16:42Speaker 2: She was a vibe. Bro was a vibe to.
- 16:45Speaker 6: The point was like I can do that, Like I
- 16:48Speaker 6: can keep doing this, I can keep doing this. We
- 16:50Speaker 6: can with it exactly because it's like it's just because
- 16:56Speaker 6: with R and B music, like you have the highs,
- 16:58Speaker 6: you have the loads, you got the up temple, the slogan,
- 17:00Speaker 6: so like the entire time you're on the roller coaster.
- 17:03Speaker 6: So every every time you go to an event, it's
- 17:06Speaker 6: a different feel. Definitely, it's a different field, different atmosphere.
- 17:09Speaker 6: And also, like we said, it brings the women. The
- 17:13Speaker 6: first time I went out was single. Yeah, so I'm like, oh,
- 17:18Speaker 6: I did it.
- 17:19Speaker 2: I did it.
- 17:19Speaker 3: But that's exactly I went outside, Michael, we left with the.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Zero you but.
- 17:31Speaker 6: You know, so I went to the Upper Darby one.
- 17:33Speaker 6: Uh you had the one at the Little Course Center.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Yeah, that was a big arena show that we did. Yeah,
- 17:41Speaker 4: that ship was tough.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Appreciate the the hook up, of course, that was great.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Got there.
- 17:47Speaker 6: We had our own little box seats, had a nice
- 17:49Speaker 6: center cut view of the stage.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Yeah, it's really cool that you've been able to see,
- 17:54Speaker 4: you know, our showing so many different spaces, right like
- 17:58Speaker 4: from and I think been to a Filmore show. Yes, yes,
- 18:02Speaker 4: so you've seen just in the Philly market alone. How
- 18:05Speaker 4: you know, we have been able to adjust and adapt
- 18:08Speaker 4: and put stuff in you know, a small venue to
- 18:11Speaker 4: a mid size venue, all the way up into an arena.
- 18:14Speaker 4: But hopefully the the feeling and the and the what
- 18:19Speaker 4: you got from the show at each of those levels
- 18:21Speaker 4: was still the same.
- 18:22Speaker 6: Because there's always gonna be new R and B music.
- 18:24Speaker 6: So listen, man, I'm I'm that's my bag.
- 18:28Speaker 2: That's my bag.
- 18:29Speaker 6: They been here arguing about Drake every three weeks talking
- 18:32Speaker 6: about hip hop hip hop artists.
- 18:33Speaker 2: I have no clue who they're talking about.
- 18:35Speaker 6: But when we get into the R and B bag,
- 18:37Speaker 6: I'd be wide away, full attentive in that commerce.
- 18:39Speaker 3: So we're still getting that back though, you know, hell
- 18:41Speaker 3: we do.
- 18:42Speaker 4: How are some of your favorites done right now? Maybe?
- 18:45Speaker 4: Oh that's my brother, Yeah, yeah, that's actually a joke. Mike.
- 18:49Speaker 2: So so like a hater. Mike's not a fan of
- 18:53Speaker 2: He doesn't even know his music. He doesn't know his music.
- 18:55Speaker 2: But the thing is he loves to bring him up.
- 18:57Speaker 6: I'm like, you know, Eric, Bellinger is talented, bro extreme,
- 19:00Speaker 6: He's written more songs that you sing every day like
- 19:04Speaker 6: it's not his music looking at listen. Eric Bellinger is
- 19:08Speaker 6: my guy. But right now the artist I really, I'm
- 19:12Speaker 6: really digging.
- 19:14Speaker 2: So give me some new artists to some new well
- 19:17Speaker 2: you know who.
- 19:19Speaker 6: My girl Coco Jones Jones, all right, that's that's that
- 19:23Speaker 6: could have been my wifey, but then she decided that
- 19:25Speaker 6: she wanted to get engaged Domin Mitchell. So now we
- 19:27Speaker 6: got talking at the moment. So so we got the
- 19:30Speaker 6: Coco Jones is we have the Leon Thomas Thomas. I
- 19:35Speaker 6: was on Leon early. This new project had to grow
- 19:37Speaker 6: on me. But you think about the deluxe that ships
- 19:40Speaker 6: fire bro.
- 19:41Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, we did, especially fire him in La where
- 19:44Speaker 4: I interviewed him about the deluxe. We have a we
- 19:47Speaker 4: have another event series called Interlude, so we did. We
- 19:51Speaker 4: put like three hundred people in a hotel, uh and
- 19:54Speaker 4: we got to talk about like the creative process of
- 19:56Speaker 4: him making the album and stuff like that, and he
- 19:59Speaker 4: had never done anything like that before with like that
- 20:02Speaker 4: type of live audience. It was really cool and we
- 20:05Speaker 4: got to give people, give fans like a sneak preview
- 20:08Speaker 4: before it came out. So yeah, man, big shout out
- 20:11Speaker 4: to Leon like a ted talk for his Yeah that's
- 20:16Speaker 4: tough man. Okay, that's to coco Leon.
- 20:19Speaker 2: So we got coco Leon.
- 20:20Speaker 6: And if I had to throw new, new, new new.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Try to stumble them, try to stumble them.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Hold on that I had to take to my bad
- 20:29Speaker 2: this one.
- 20:30Speaker 4: I thought you were gonna say, Jaydon, Oh, that's young boy.
- 20:34Speaker 2: His his uh.
- 20:36Speaker 6: Desography isn't big enough yet, but he's just But I
- 20:41Speaker 6: got a hundred shares in that guy. Yeah, that kid,
- 20:43Speaker 6: he's going to be something for sure. That's gonna be something.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Shout out to Mega and l a read and usher.
- 20:49Speaker 6: Hell yeah, and listen, we know the last time I
- 20:52Speaker 6: should put his stamp on something, it turned into.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Justin Bieber exactly. Yea, No, man, Jaydon is really like
- 20:59Speaker 4: he was in our office the other day. It's just
- 21:01Speaker 4: such a sweet kid. And really uh really as a
- 21:05Speaker 4: student you know of the game and and all he
- 21:08Speaker 4: wants to do is just perform and and and dance
- 21:12Speaker 4: and and and share his gift with the world. And
- 21:14Speaker 4: uh really excited about like the future for what he
- 21:17Speaker 4: has coming.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Because he started off acting, started off acting.
- 21:20Speaker 4: Yeah, voice acting even yeah.
- 21:22Speaker 6: I remember seeing him because he was one of the
- 21:26Speaker 6: young kids that was cursed with the little bowl hair
- 21:28Speaker 6: hairline cut. So like when I seen him, I was like, what,
- 21:32Speaker 6: like you remember the black part Ranger, Jamie Fox, the little.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Okay.
- 21:38Speaker 6: They then straighten it out there like we're just gonna
- 21:40Speaker 6: do what we're gonna do. Yes, exactly, So like when
- 21:44Speaker 6: he came up, like, yo, why does kid look familiar?
- 21:46Speaker 6: The first song I heard of his was a ship?
- 21:49Speaker 2: What is it? What is it? Is it?
- 21:52Speaker 6: It's the blue It's it's like a blue cover uh
- 21:57Speaker 6: blue album.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Arch Lullaby was the first Paradise Yes.
- 22:02Speaker 6: I'm like, yo, yeah, I sent it into the chap
- 22:05Speaker 6: Of course, anybody ignored it because it's R and B
- 22:06Speaker 6: and I definitely did it. Ain't nobody respond, But that's cool,
- 22:12Speaker 6: that's okay. I do that for all the music.
- 22:15Speaker 3: I was like, god, damn people, I'm trying to put
- 22:16Speaker 3: you all on some new ship. But have you heard
- 22:19Speaker 3: this guy Jayda? Six months later, it's like Keenan's like.
- 22:24Speaker 1: That, I do do that Like I did that like
- 22:27Speaker 1: two months ago. I was like, have you heard of
- 22:29Speaker 1: this guy? Destined Conrad?
- 22:30Speaker 4: It's amazing.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I have worn out, Uh, same mistake. I played that
- 22:39Speaker 1: like four billion times.
- 22:40Speaker 4: Yeah, Oh my goodness, so good man. There's so much
- 22:44Speaker 4: I think. You know, what's really interesting about the R
- 22:46Speaker 4: and B space right now is that there are I
- 22:49Speaker 4: feel like never before in music history, honestly, has there
- 22:55Speaker 4: been so many talented artists that people actually don't really
- 23:03Speaker 4: know about on a on a on a national, even
- 23:05Speaker 4: a global scale. I think there's so much music to consume,
- 23:10Speaker 4: and there's in our space, specifically in R and B,
- 23:13Speaker 4: there's so few platforms to uh sort of highlight that stuff,
- 23:20Speaker 4: which is which is why we're more We're getting more,
- 23:24Speaker 4: way more into this and like helping artists with visibility
- 23:28Speaker 4: and like becoming more of a platform because a lot
- 23:34Speaker 4: of people just don't know where to find this stuff,
- 23:36Speaker 4: you know what I mean. And I think that people
- 23:40Speaker 4: are on like playlist overload, and you know, what the
- 23:44Speaker 4: DSPs do is cool in terms of curation and letting
- 23:49Speaker 4: you know like what's next, but oftentimes it's just like
- 23:53Speaker 4: a song will just come on next on a playlist
- 23:58Speaker 4: or after you've played something and maybe you're working out
- 24:00Speaker 4: or you're in a car and you don't really have
- 24:02Speaker 4: time to like save it. And then go see who
- 24:05Speaker 4: it is and go back and you know what I mean,
- 24:07Speaker 4: And if that three minutes and thirty seconds is on
- 24:09Speaker 4: to the next one, you might have really rocked with
- 24:12Speaker 4: the song, but you that was just your that was it,
- 24:17Speaker 4: you know what I mean. And oftentimes I think to
- 24:20Speaker 4: really get introduced to an artist, you need to see
- 24:23Speaker 4: them a few different times. They say, like in sales,
- 24:27Speaker 4: you need to see something seven times before you actually purchase,
- 24:30Speaker 4: And I think it's the similar sort of like route
- 24:33Speaker 4: with an artist. You might see like Jaydaen pop up
- 24:36Speaker 4: on your Instagram feed and then you like might hear
- 24:40Speaker 4: the lullaby song and then you might see that Usher
- 24:43Speaker 4: signed him, and there's all these different touch points, but
- 24:45Speaker 4: before you actually go to his like Apple music or
- 24:48Speaker 4: Spotify profile and then like hit following and save an album,
- 24:51Speaker 4: and like, you just might need a few touch points.
- 24:54Speaker 4: And so we're trying to be like a few of
- 24:56Speaker 4: those touch points with these new artists that you can
- 25:01Speaker 4: get invested in. But yeah, it's a there's a lot
- 25:05Speaker 4: of talent out there, but I just think there's not
- 25:07Speaker 4: as much curation in the R and B space as
- 25:10Speaker 4: there needs to be.
- 25:11Speaker 5: Hell, you get them have you seen the shift and
- 25:14Speaker 5: where the industry is going, being that there's been a
- 25:17Speaker 5: lot of pressure on the DSPs in terms of financials
- 25:20Speaker 5: and just discovery things like things like that with what
- 25:23Speaker 5: you're doing with your platform. Have you seen the shift
- 25:25Speaker 5: behind the scenes in terms of trying to get that
- 25:26Speaker 5: artist to reach out and things like that.
- 25:28Speaker 4: Yeah, no doubt, man, Honestly, like the biggest shift that
- 25:32Speaker 4: I've seen. Right, and we speak to all the DSPs
- 25:38Speaker 4: because they really want to know. Okay, I'll say this,
- 25:46Speaker 4: there's not many more people that are like going to
- 25:50Speaker 4: be new sign ups on a lot of these platforms
- 25:53Speaker 4: right right. They're not getting new Apple Music is not
- 25:56Speaker 4: like bringing in new subscribers, nor neither of Spotify. It's
- 25:59Speaker 4: like people have gotten whatever music platform they they picked it,
- 26:04Speaker 4: and then now they're like sticking with them. Where there
- 26:07Speaker 4: is opportunity for growth is in more like developed nations
- 26:12Speaker 4: or developing nations. So all across the continent of Africa,
- 26:17Speaker 4: a lot of these places are just getting like high
- 26:19Speaker 4: speed internet and getting online, and so there's opportunity for growth.
- 26:24Speaker 4: There a lot of places in Latin America same thing,
- 26:28Speaker 4: and that's where a lot of growth is happening. But
- 26:31Speaker 4: I think what the goal of a lot of DSPs
- 26:33Speaker 4: and platforms are now is to keep people on the
- 26:39Speaker 4: services longer and in different ways. And I think that's
- 26:43Speaker 4: why you see Apple Music starting with the DJ sets,
- 26:47Speaker 4: because they know people are on Apple Music, but it's like,
- 26:51Speaker 4: how do we get people to stay on Apple Music
- 26:53Speaker 4: longer outside of just playlists? And so so you see, yeah,
- 26:58Speaker 4: you know, you see utif I putting a huge commitment
- 27:03Speaker 4: into podcasting and video on the app, you know, because
- 27:07Speaker 4: they just need people to stay on these things longer.
- 27:11Speaker 4: And so I think that's what we're seeing, and that's
- 27:16Speaker 4: a part of It's like how can we fit into
- 27:19Speaker 4: those arenas, you know what I mean? How can we
- 27:21Speaker 4: have DJ sets on Apple Music? How can we have
- 27:24Speaker 4: more long form video content on Spotify and YouTube and
- 27:27Speaker 4: that type of thing? And and and I think from
- 27:31Speaker 4: an artist's standpoint, what we're and I'll sort of get
- 27:36Speaker 4: into like a lot of people, so most of our
- 27:40Speaker 4: business is like A B two C, right, It's like
- 27:43Speaker 4: selling tickets to consumers, right, so, but we also have
- 27:49Speaker 4: a part of our business that a lot of people
- 27:50Speaker 4: don't know about that's more B to B and we
- 27:54Speaker 4: are sort of like we provide services to artists to
- 27:59Speaker 4: help them market their music and their touring. So you'll
- 28:03Speaker 4: see a lot of times, you know, we might help
- 28:08Speaker 4: get more eyes and visibility on an artist content or
- 28:14Speaker 4: help produce content for them. Excuse me, where helping them
- 28:20Speaker 4: with like social media content that they're actually putting on
- 28:23Speaker 4: their own channels and it has nothing to do with
- 28:25Speaker 4: like going on on and be on these platforms. So,
- 28:30Speaker 4: and one of the other things that we help artists
- 28:32Speaker 4: with is helping them develop their own email and SMS
- 28:37Speaker 4: list so that they can directly get people to listen
- 28:40Speaker 4: to their music versus versus waiting on an algorithm or
- 28:48Speaker 4: an editor editor at Spotify or Apple to put their
- 28:53Speaker 4: music on a playlist. Having that direct fan communication is
- 28:57Speaker 4: really really important and that's how we've able to grow
- 29:00Speaker 4: our brand. So now we're just helping artists do the
- 29:02Speaker 4: same thing.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Okay, Now you were talking about.
- 29:07Speaker 1: How you make the playlist for the shows. Yep, how
- 29:12Speaker 1: often are you How often are you like switching that out?
- 29:15Speaker 1: We're like, like, what goes into that?
- 29:18Speaker 4: Yeah? So we tour in two seasons every year. We
- 29:24Speaker 4: have the winter spring.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Or is it?
- 29:30Speaker 4: Yeah, we have winter spring and then we have Fall
- 29:32Speaker 4: Winter Winter Spring is from January to May, and then
- 29:38Speaker 4: Fall Winter is from August to November. Each of those
- 29:43Speaker 4: seasons we have I want to say, about six to
- 29:46Speaker 4: eight resident DJs, all women DJs that that play our
- 29:52Speaker 4: R and Billy Live shows, and then we have male hosts.
- 29:55Speaker 4: Each one of the DJs has their own set per season.
- 30:01Speaker 4: So me and our music director shout out to Tierra
- 30:04Speaker 4: Monique every season. Oh that's for me. Yeah, I got
- 30:09Speaker 4: a little rest. Shout out to Corey. We were at
- 30:11Speaker 4: the wedding last night. My voices. It's a late night,
- 30:18Speaker 4: thank you. But but yeah, So every tour season we
- 30:24Speaker 4: develop new sets for each of the DJs and we
- 30:30Speaker 4: run that for whatever that season is, and it's broken up.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Our shows are are like a play almost with like
- 30:38Speaker 4: a beginning, middle, and end, and we take people on
- 30:40Speaker 4: this journey of R and B and it's a lot
- 30:44Speaker 4: of structure in the show, highs, lows, all this, and
- 30:49Speaker 4: we have these sort of must play songs for each
- 30:52Speaker 4: season that we put into uh into the sets, and
- 30:56Speaker 4: then we give the DJs a little bit of creative
- 30:58Speaker 4: freedom to build the sets around those must play songs
- 31:02Speaker 4: and the and the blocks of the show that we have, uh,
- 31:06Speaker 4: and then we go back and forth with them and
- 31:09Speaker 4: approve it, and then and then you actually have to
- 31:11Speaker 4: see it in action. And then we see it in action,
- 31:13Speaker 4: and then we tweak it and amend things, and then
- 31:17Speaker 4: it happens all over again on the next season.
- 31:20Speaker 3: But what was the most recent season?
- 31:23Speaker 4: What was the most like? It's the current season. Okay, okay,
- 31:27Speaker 4: the current season, Yeah, which is that's the fall winter, right,
- 31:30Speaker 4: so you just kicked it off recently. Yeah, just kicked
- 31:32Speaker 4: it off in August. We're in the beginning of a
- 31:36Speaker 4: tour season right now. So what are the current like
- 31:40Speaker 4: must plays? At least a couple. Yeah, I'll give you
- 31:42Speaker 4: a couple, so we have I mean, it's it's there
- 31:45Speaker 4: are different chunks of the show, so in like the
- 31:47Speaker 4: new R and B portion of the show. Some of
- 31:51Speaker 4: those are like the Chris Brown and Leon Thomas Mutt remix.
- 31:57Speaker 4: Let's see Klan's fold ye Smasher.
- 32:02Speaker 2: I was just thinking that two seconds is phenomenal. Let's see.
- 32:06Speaker 4: Uh, there is uh a justin bieber Yukon. But an edit.
- 32:14Speaker 4: That's an edit that our homegirl DJ honey Beat did.
- 32:20Speaker 4: She's not like a resident DJ but she's worked with
- 32:22Speaker 4: us in the past, especially on our office hours DJ sets,
- 32:26Speaker 4: And as soon as you said Yukon, I already knew yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 32:31Speaker 4: and uh those are those are a few I can name
- 32:34Speaker 4: and I could think of off the top of like
- 32:36Speaker 4: the New R and B set, and then there's just
- 32:39Speaker 4: so many others that I just couldn't remember from like
- 32:42Speaker 4: the from like the old schools part portion of the show.
- 32:45Speaker 2: And that is it usually one DJ per show or
- 32:48Speaker 2: is it multiple now?
- 32:49Speaker 4: Yeah? One DJ per show and one host. Yeah, so
- 32:51Speaker 4: it's a it's a male and female on stage. But
- 32:55Speaker 4: it's very it's very uh intentional to have only women
- 32:59Speaker 4: DJ at that show because seventy percent of the artists
- 33:04Speaker 4: are women. Uh, seventy percent of the audience is women.
- 33:08Speaker 4: And we wanted to we wanted we wanted women to
- 33:12Speaker 4: like see themselves represented on the stage because a lot
- 33:16Speaker 4: of times in our culture, and when I say our culture,
- 33:20Speaker 4: I mean Black culture, we don't really see a lot
- 33:22Speaker 4: of women DJs.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Definitely under I feel like underrepresented in music production. Yeah,
- 33:30Speaker 3: like you said DJ, yeah for sure just as capable
- 33:33Speaker 3: if not.
- 33:33Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, absolutely absolutely, And so yeah, that was a
- 33:37Speaker 4: really really important thing that I that I wanted to
- 33:40Speaker 4: shift into about like a few a few years into
- 33:44Speaker 4: the brand. It wasn't like that in the beginning, but
- 33:46Speaker 4: once I started to do that, I thought it was
- 33:48Speaker 4: really important to continue doing that.
- 33:51Speaker 3: What was the trigger for that? What was the catalyst
- 33:53Speaker 3: for that change?
- 33:54Speaker 4: To be honest, I had a problem with one of
- 33:57Speaker 4: the guys who was djaying and uh sad story, but
- 34:03Speaker 4: had to fire him and the opening DJ at the
- 34:07Speaker 4: time had to fill in for an entire show. So
- 34:10Speaker 4: the opening DJ was a woman. Big shout out to
- 34:12Speaker 4: d and the DJ who would At first it was
- 34:18Speaker 4: two DJs, but then we had to get rid of one.
- 34:21Speaker 4: She filled in, she killed the show, and that was
- 34:24Speaker 4: the We knew that there needed to be a shift.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Women only from here and there was always one.
- 34:33Speaker 4: It wasn't even that, but it was just like the
- 34:35Speaker 4: way that she just crushed that shot and never forget
- 34:37Speaker 4: it was in Atlanta. She just held it down. There
- 34:41Speaker 4: was something about how she connected with the audience throughout
- 34:45Speaker 4: the entire show. I was like, yeah, this just is
- 34:48Speaker 4: this is just how a curative vibe. Yeah yeah, and
- 34:51Speaker 4: uh and and and the women in our audience really
- 34:54Speaker 4: really notice and appreciate that and feel and feel seen.
- 34:58Speaker 4: So yeah, just never looked back.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw when y'all went right, and I saw
- 35:04Speaker 1: the whole thing. I was like, damn, I really regretted.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Not I don't like going outside, but I regret at
- 35:09Speaker 1: that time.
- 35:10Speaker 2: So we definitely should. Yeah, another one question for you,
- 35:15Speaker 2: So yeah two weeks?
- 35:17Speaker 4: Two weeks?
- 35:18Speaker 2: Is it really?
- 35:19Speaker 4: Yeah? I don't know the schedule, but uh, he knows.
- 35:25Speaker 6: How you get baller status, you know exactly. But so
- 35:29Speaker 6: you said that you guys make the playlist for the season.
- 35:32Speaker 6: Now you've been doing this.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Congratulations, Thank you? What songs if any? Are you tired
- 35:42Speaker 2: of hearing? Because I know, like with black people, go ahead, God,
- 35:50Speaker 2: I love.
- 35:50Speaker 6: This because like I know, like I've seen a couple
- 35:54Speaker 6: of times like people saying we can you talked it out?
- 35:58Speaker 2: Yes, that's one, Like people like can we stop?
- 36:01Speaker 4: We can we talk?
- 36:02Speaker 2: Can we talk?
- 36:03Speaker 4: Tevin Campbell? Can we talk about to fight?
- 36:04Speaker 2: You over there?
- 36:05Speaker 5: Too?
- 36:10Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 36:11Speaker 4: Valentine? Yeah, so yeah those are my big bros. So okay,
- 36:18Speaker 4: I personally you don't need to hear can we talk
- 36:24Speaker 4: in a live R and B setting? Ever? Again, that's
- 36:28Speaker 4: in every every day Yeah, problem, And I think that.
- 36:33Speaker 4: You know, sometimes you know, people come to our show
- 36:36Speaker 4: and they I mean, it's it's hardly ever played anymore.
- 36:41Speaker 4: And and then sometimes you know, when the DJ goes
- 36:43Speaker 4: down to meet fans afterwards, and you know, that's one
- 36:47Speaker 4: of the it's like I didn't hear any Tevin, I
- 36:49Speaker 4: didn't hear can we talk? Or I didn't hear you know,
- 36:52Speaker 4: Joe Tosy, or I didn't hear r Kelly. That's a
- 36:56Speaker 4: whole nother.
- 36:57Speaker 2: And you're not.
- 37:00Speaker 4: Those other ones might come back, yeah, probably, but yeah,
- 37:04Speaker 4: you know, people and you know, the common answer is
- 37:08Speaker 4: just like we've been doing this ten years exactly. We
- 37:11Speaker 4: are five hundred plus shows deep. You know, there are
- 37:17Speaker 4: so many other records that you can hear, and if
- 37:21Speaker 4: you want to hear that, I know you want to
- 37:23Speaker 4: hear it in like this type of setting and be
- 37:24Speaker 4: able to sing with in a community setting and sing
- 37:28Speaker 4: at the top of your lungs with a bunch of
- 37:29Speaker 4: other people. But there's many other places that you can
- 37:34Speaker 4: go and like get that experience.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Just go out one night.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Yeah, you know probably period. Yeah, it's a unique experience. Yeah, so,
- 37:43Speaker 4: but you know, but I still understand that like oftentimes
- 37:45Speaker 4: at our shows. It's it's somebody's first time going to
- 37:48Speaker 4: our show, and they might expect something, but you know,
- 37:55Speaker 4: we can't.
- 37:56Speaker 2: We will.
- 37:56Speaker 4: I don't think we would be around ten years and
- 38:00Speaker 4: still growing at a rapid pace if we just kept
- 38:03Speaker 4: stuck doing the same thing.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Over and over again.
- 38:06Speaker 6: Right yeah, So because like you barely hear what's his
- 38:10Speaker 6: other song? I'm ready mm hmm.
- 38:12Speaker 4: Yeah I love that record.
- 38:14Speaker 6: I love that song too. That's my ship, Yeah, that's
- 38:16Speaker 6: my ship. But the thing is you never hear that.
- 38:17Speaker 6: You only hear you talk exactly.
- 38:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm like, you play the other one like that.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Damn.
- 38:23Speaker 4: But now, if if Tevin Campbell popped up at one
- 38:26Speaker 4: of our shows as a special guest, I mean, he's
- 38:30Speaker 4: gonna want You're gonna the form. Yeah, it would be
- 38:34Speaker 4: crazy if he would have.
- 38:37Speaker 2: He would have to if we listen to each other's heart.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Yeah, so like you that already answered my question, Like
- 38:47Speaker 1: you had to have artists on.
- 38:48Speaker 2: This guest right yeah?
- 38:49Speaker 4: Yeah all the time. So what you never know who's
- 38:51Speaker 4: gonna pop up?
- 38:52Speaker 2: When is that? What was that first artist where you booked?
- 38:54Speaker 2: It was like I've done it.
- 38:57Speaker 4: Yeah, yes, I guess what you're asking is like an
- 39:03Speaker 4: artist that we booked that I've been excited to have.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Excited to have.
- 39:06Speaker 1: We're like, you're like, damn, I like I didn't expect
- 39:09Speaker 1: to get it like this big artist.
- 39:11Speaker 4: It's like, okay, well, let me let me give you
- 39:12Speaker 4: let me give you a real answer here, right. So,
- 39:16Speaker 4: I don't know if I've ever felt that way on
- 39:19Speaker 4: booking an artist, because at the end of the day,
- 39:21Speaker 4: there's just a dollar amount attached to every artist, right,
- 39:25Speaker 4: So maybe I've felt a little bit better when there's
- 39:30Speaker 4: been an artist that I've really rocked with or been
- 39:32Speaker 4: a fan of, and and they've done it on the
- 39:33Speaker 4: love and they just wanted to they just wanted to
- 39:36Speaker 4: pull up like for free. There's been a lot. I
- 39:41Speaker 4: don't I don't even know if I want to share
- 39:44Speaker 4: those because you know, I don't want to. I don't
- 39:49Speaker 4: want to mess up their potential.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Book in the future. She was the one that you
- 39:53Speaker 2: were very excited about. No amount atta like the first one,
- 39:56Speaker 2: like you were really excited to.
- 39:57Speaker 4: Have, Like you're really a fan aside from the money.
- 40:01Speaker 2: Wow, I'm going to be in the same room as
- 40:03Speaker 2: blank blank and they're gonna work with me.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 40:10Speaker 4: Again, I don't really get uh yeah, not really. I
- 40:15Speaker 4: will say it's I will I will say uh one
- 40:21Speaker 4: for my mom's sake, because my mom was at this
- 40:24Speaker 4: show and she is one of her favorite artists of
- 40:27Speaker 4: all time. So being able to have an artist that
- 40:31Speaker 4: my mom really respected and that I listened I listened
- 40:34Speaker 4: to growing up from my mom playing it in the
- 40:38Speaker 4: crib was Eric Abatu. I think that even though we
- 40:44Speaker 4: had a problem and and she kind of cursed me
- 40:48Speaker 4: out on stage, she said, for sure to find me.
- 40:54Speaker 4: She she basically the show. I talked about this on
- 40:57Speaker 4: Tanks podcast. But the show, oh yeah maybe, oh yeah,
- 41:01Speaker 4: oh yeah, I was I didn't give the name on
- 41:04Speaker 4: the podcast.
- 41:06Speaker 3: You did not get the name.
- 41:08Speaker 4: Yeah. But no, no, no, no, no, it's all good. I
- 41:11Speaker 4: mean it's it's it's footage. But yeah, we had to
- 41:16Speaker 4: cut her set short for some problems that we were having,
- 41:20Speaker 4: and she wasn't too happy about it. But then after
- 41:23Speaker 4: the show she was like the sweetest you know woman
- 41:25Speaker 4: and gave me a hug and told me that she
- 41:28Speaker 4: really had a good time. Some times they just got
- 41:29Speaker 4: to get that artist. She's mad at the idea. Yeah, yeah, man,
- 41:34Speaker 4: you know and but but but to answer your question.
- 41:36Speaker 4: That artist was really it was just really cool having
- 41:42Speaker 4: my mom be like in the front row watching the show,
- 41:46Speaker 4: knowing that, you know, her son put this festival on
- 41:50Speaker 4: and she got to see one of her favorite artists
- 41:52Speaker 4: of all time. I think that was one that was
- 41:54Speaker 4: special to me. Outside of that, Uh, it's not really
- 42:00Speaker 4: like artists. It's more so like that I that I
- 42:04Speaker 4: get excited about. It's more so just about, like I
- 42:07Speaker 4: don't know, the work that's being done and the impact
- 42:10Speaker 4: that we have, Like I get more excited about. I
- 42:14Speaker 4: get more excited about like how many people we employed,
- 42:19Speaker 4: or or how we can help somebody's career, or how
- 42:25Speaker 4: we can you know, help take an artist from like
- 42:27Speaker 4: this point to like this point. Yeah, those are the
- 42:31Speaker 4: things that excite me more so than just like working
- 42:34Speaker 4: with the name, because I've worked with a lot of
- 42:36Speaker 4: people over.
- 42:36Speaker 6: My Yeah, I forgot that you did the festivals because
- 42:39Speaker 6: I also went to the festival at the was that
- 42:42Speaker 6: the bb and T Center game?
- 42:43Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 42:44Speaker 2: You had?
- 42:45Speaker 6: I told you who would you had you had rs
- 42:51Speaker 6: VP there?
- 42:51Speaker 4: Yeah, Bobby, Bobby like, I'm like this, we have at
- 43:01Speaker 4: that show. We had a few other people at that show.
- 43:03Speaker 6: I can't remember, Yeah, you had R v P, which
- 43:06Speaker 6: is Ray J, Bobby and Eric out of that show too.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Eric, he started the night off. Yes, shout out to them.
- 43:15Speaker 1: But you know what that's interesting speaking of Bobby b Oh, yeah,
- 43:19Speaker 1: the U between.
- 43:21Speaker 2: These two songs.
- 43:21Speaker 4: All right, yeah, Bobby B tell me or Cisco thong song,
- 43:27Speaker 4: tell me all the thank you?
- 43:29Speaker 2: Thank you. From an R and B expert, we shall
- 43:31Speaker 2: move on admicably. How would you get that right? Those strings?
- 43:36Speaker 4: Right?
- 43:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't care, nay.
- 43:39Speaker 4: Tim and Bob is like legend legendary, and I think
- 43:43Speaker 4: they got some new stuff like that they're working on.
- 43:45Speaker 4: I've heard through the grapevine.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we're getting this here.
- 43:52Speaker 4: I actually heard a few tracks that some new artists
- 43:55Speaker 4: that they're working with, and uh yeah, those guys super legendary.
- 43:59Speaker 4: That's the dope thing about R and B is that,
- 44:00Speaker 4: like you know, the Yeah, I have a long tangent
- 44:07Speaker 4: to go on about this, but the producers, right, are
- 44:11Speaker 4: so a lot of a lot of the music in
- 44:15Speaker 4: R and B. R and B, when you do it right,
- 44:18Speaker 4: it's timeless. So there's obviously sounds that stamp like the
- 44:25Speaker 4: nineties and the two thousands and or the early two
- 44:28Speaker 4: thousands and the late two thousands and then even currently now.
- 44:32Speaker 4: But because the music is so timeless and it spans
- 44:37Speaker 4: across generations, you know what happens is like the production
- 44:42Speaker 4: and the producers they can have a lot longer of
- 44:48Speaker 4: a career because like a lot of stuff comes back around.
- 44:52Speaker 4: So like people I feel like right now kind of
- 44:55Speaker 4: want that Tim and Bob sound, you know what I mean,
- 44:57Speaker 4: They want that like Dark Child, Rodney Jerk can sound
- 45:01Speaker 4: of the early two thousands, you know what I mean.
- 45:03Speaker 4: Like they're like even when you listen to like Folded right,
- 45:07Speaker 4: like that reminds you of Brandy, But yeah, you know
- 45:09Speaker 4: what I mean. Like and and so there's still a
- 45:14Speaker 4: space for a lot of those producers to work with
- 45:17Speaker 4: artists now, and and I'm just I'm excited to even
- 45:22Speaker 4: you know, we're making music and putting artists together, and
- 45:25Speaker 4: I'm excited to like just see where the next ten
- 45:28Speaker 4: years of R and B is like going.
- 45:30Speaker 2: That's going off of that.
- 45:31Speaker 1: I also feel like and a difference between R and
- 45:34Speaker 1: B and hip hop again is that there's like the
- 45:38Speaker 1: generational gaps aren't as like there's no there's less friction
- 45:43Speaker 1: between the eight like the older people and the younger
- 45:47Speaker 1: people and the new and the old, like they're willing
- 45:49Speaker 1: to work with each other or they're not afraid to
- 45:51Speaker 1: draw from that inspiration.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Yes, where there's like in hip hop world is like
- 45:56Speaker 2: it's mine.
- 45:57Speaker 1: They look down at this era for doing it this way,
- 46:00Speaker 1: and this era looks like, oh, you know, it's just
- 46:02Speaker 1: friction and it's not as much as like there's more
- 46:05Speaker 1: of a community of give and take and willing to share.
- 46:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's true. I do think though, with
- 46:11Speaker 4: the I do think a lot of older R and
- 46:14Speaker 4: B fans though, are a bit more closed minded and
- 46:18Speaker 4: they don't and I think they they should open their
- 46:23Speaker 4: palette up and open their just just just let these look.
- 46:29Speaker 4: Then I always say this, they're never they're not making
- 46:31Speaker 4: new music from the nineties. It's just not happening yet, right,
- 46:35Speaker 4: But people always say that the nineties is there, that's
- 46:39Speaker 4: what they want to hear, that's what they love. But
- 46:42Speaker 4: there's so many artists that can that are reminiscent give
- 46:45Speaker 4: you that feel. But you just got to give them
- 46:47Speaker 4: a chance. And that's why an opportunity.
- 46:49Speaker 1: It's the fans because like that's the same thing him.
- 46:51Speaker 1: I was like the old head like it's people aren't
- 46:53Speaker 1: rapping out there. It's like, no, there's a lot of
- 46:56Speaker 1: you know, rapping like you think they should. Like you
- 47:00Speaker 1: just got to it's all music, Like you've got to
- 47:02Speaker 1: be willing to look.
- 47:03Speaker 4: Yes, but see that. Back to the ecosystem, right, like
- 47:07Speaker 4: there's there's, there's I'll name all the people or all
- 47:13Speaker 4: the pillars would make up a healthy ecosystem in a genre,
- 47:19Speaker 4: and specifically, let's talk about R and B. At first,
- 47:23Speaker 4: there's the artist and the artists. Let's let's say the
- 47:26Speaker 4: artist and producer, right, you have to you have to
- 47:29Speaker 4: be making quality there. Then there's the record label, because
- 47:34Speaker 4: the record label and you know, one could argue that
- 47:36Speaker 4: the record label is not as necessary these days, but
- 47:40Speaker 4: they're still a part of the ecosystem, right, and you
- 47:42Speaker 4: need the record label signing and providing opportunities to get
- 47:47Speaker 4: these artists seen and heard. Right. Then it's the media
- 47:51Speaker 4: platforms and outlets right to be the curators of those
- 47:57Speaker 4: records and those artists. And right then it's the fans,
- 48:02Speaker 4: right and then I would say, lastly, it's the it's
- 48:07Speaker 4: the it's the promoters and the touring companies and that
- 48:10Speaker 4: type of thing right. And I think that for a
- 48:13Speaker 4: for a genre to be healthy, right, you need thriving
- 48:20Speaker 4: each one of those each one of those players needs
- 48:23Speaker 4: to be like thriving. And I think in R and
- 48:26Speaker 4: B we have a lot of work to do at
- 48:31Speaker 4: each one of those uh stops and that's where you know,
- 48:36Speaker 4: and to be honest, we're we're playing in each of
- 48:39Speaker 4: those spaces. But but it can't it can't just be us,
- 48:44Speaker 4: you know what I mean, It's gotta be uh, it's
- 48:45Speaker 4: got to be a team effort. And I think sometimes
- 48:50Speaker 4: R and B for for whatever reasons, you know, I
- 48:55Speaker 4: talked to my buddy Al Branch about this a lot,
- 48:58Speaker 4: and uh, you know, I think, and I've heard La
- 49:01Speaker 4: Read say this on on the R and B Money podcast,
- 49:05Speaker 4: But there's not a lot of there's not a lot
- 49:09Speaker 4: of black record labels and boutique labels anymore specifically in
- 49:16Speaker 4: R and B that that you know, back in the day,
- 49:23Speaker 4: there were so many places that there was real like
- 49:27Speaker 4: entrepreneurship and independence and people who wanted to sign, promote
- 49:33Speaker 4: and produce music that was surrounded around like black love.
- 49:38Speaker 4: And I don't know if that's the case anymore, but
- 49:42Speaker 4: we didn't stop loving each other, you.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Know what I mean? And uh so, how long until
- 49:46Speaker 2: you get that back?
- 49:48Speaker 4: Got some things cooking? Yeah so, uh but we're going
- 49:52Speaker 4: to start to sign artists and and put out projects
- 49:56Speaker 4: and and I see, I see the tenement. We can
- 49:58Speaker 4: go a little longer if you guys want. Hm, Okay, we.
- 50:03Speaker 2: We just got a couple of games you want to play?
- 50:08Speaker 3: And then yeah, okay, I mean a couple of games
- 50:13Speaker 3: and a couple more maybe a couple more questions.
- 50:14Speaker 4: Yeah, alright, man, you guys, you guys are great. Okay, thanks.
- 50:20Speaker 3: So Usually on our Patreon episodes, we do something with
- 50:24Speaker 3: a called a blind drinking where there's a list of
- 50:27Speaker 3: something a topic and you ranked them blindly.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Okay, today we're gonna do R and B debut singles.
- 50:37Speaker 4: You're gonna name.
- 50:38Speaker 2: Them from I'm gonna and then we're just gonna put
- 50:40Speaker 2: them one through five. All right, this is not what's next?
- 50:44Speaker 4: Not knowing what's next?
- 50:46Speaker 2: Oh I like this debut singles.
- 50:48Speaker 4: R and B debut singles.
- 50:50Speaker 3: This one might be controversial because it's someone's debut as
- 50:54Speaker 3: a solo artist. The beyonswer Beyonce crazy in Love?
- 50:58Speaker 4: Got it?
- 51:00Speaker 2: So hold?
- 51:00Speaker 4: I just are we just giving it a ranking from
- 51:02Speaker 4: one to five.
- 51:02Speaker 3: One through five, but you have to keep it there
- 51:05Speaker 3: after the next ones pop up. You just have to
- 51:08Speaker 3: say this is where it's going.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Where you think what else? What else might be there?
- 51:11Speaker 4: Oh oh so you I don't know, So you're gonna
- 51:13Speaker 4: give five total?
- 51:14Speaker 2: Yes?
- 51:15Speaker 4: Got it? Okay?
- 51:16Speaker 2: So like I would put that at like two.
- 51:18Speaker 4: Crazy and five being the highest, No, five being the lowest.
- 51:23Speaker 2: Okay, five being the lowest.
- 51:24Speaker 4: Got it? All right? I have a different opinion you have.
- 51:27Speaker 4: The reason being is because I mean, it's a it's
- 51:31Speaker 4: a massive feature. It is so it almost feels like
- 51:34Speaker 4: a cheat code because at the time, Hove was a
- 51:38Speaker 4: lot bigger where Beyonce was, you know what I mean.
- 51:42Speaker 4: And uh, obviously she was massive too, But I do
- 51:47Speaker 4: think that that combination and then the whole relationship and
- 51:50Speaker 4: you know, that was kind of the It wasn't like
- 51:53Speaker 4: the introduction of their relationship, but I think there was yeah, yeah,
- 51:58Speaker 4: you know what I mean, and her breakout from from
- 52:01Speaker 4: the child. Yeah. So I'm going to put it at
- 52:06Speaker 4: like four simply because I would put people higher who
- 52:11Speaker 4: were able to do it by themselves. Okay, So we
- 52:13Speaker 4: have two four. Mike I'll go with four.
- 52:16Speaker 3: Riding with four an any objection?
- 52:20Speaker 2: Do we have an opinion?
- 52:21Speaker 4: I'll go with three.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Okay, all right, so we got most for so we
- 52:25Speaker 1: we're going to go four four.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Yeah that's the most. Yeah.
- 52:29Speaker 6: Yeah, we could do four only because like I had
- 52:33Speaker 6: that hired because it was just smash. Beyonce was crazy,
- 52:37Speaker 6: was already a uh listen you make Monique do that
- 52:41Speaker 6: dance on stage? Yes, you're good girls one.
- 52:46Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure. I mean they I mean I think
- 52:49Speaker 4: they were just in Paris and on the Renaissance tour
- 52:52Speaker 4: and I think she brought whole out and they did that,
- 52:55Speaker 4: and it's really twenty years later, it's still went still
- 52:58Speaker 4: went crazy. I think it's about twenty years Huh, it has.
- 53:02Speaker 2: To be close to it.
- 53:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:04Speaker 5: It was highly anticipated, like we were all waiting for
- 53:06Speaker 5: Beyonce to go solo and what would that look like?
- 53:08Speaker 4: What would that sound like? Yeah? Yeah, damn twenty two
- 53:11Speaker 4: years twenty shit man? All right?
- 53:15Speaker 2: Ayes, So we got Danger in Love.
- 53:20Speaker 6: That album crazy God, crazy love, crazy love crazy personally,
- 53:24Speaker 6: that's my favorite album.
- 53:26Speaker 4: Was that Beata No, that's it's called right, Yeah, The
- 53:31Speaker 4: title track was crazy to that ballad that signs.
- 53:35Speaker 6: Oh yeah, yeah, that whole album she was just was
- 53:40Speaker 6: deep in the traditional R and B bag.
- 53:42Speaker 4: That's sure, all right. Next song, D'Angelo brown Sugar. Ooh,
- 53:49Speaker 4: that's that's a man.
- 53:51Speaker 2: I'll give you a warning.
- 53:52Speaker 3: Now, these are all like nineties, early two thousands.
- 53:57Speaker 2: It can't be lower than three. I'm sorry. I'm gonna
- 54:01Speaker 2: say too. Brown Sugar didn't hit me the way it
- 54:03Speaker 2: hit everybody else.
- 54:05Speaker 4: Is that an age thing?
- 54:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that's age thirty two. So when brown Sugar came,
- 54:10Speaker 2: I was a child.
- 54:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean saying, yeah, I'm thirty eight, so I
- 54:13Speaker 4: was a kid. But I just it's a bang. I
- 54:16Speaker 4: think it's just my mom. Man. My mom was just
- 54:18Speaker 4: such an R and B.
- 54:20Speaker 2: Your mom sounds like she was one of the first
- 54:22Speaker 2: neo soul.
- 54:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that's what was playing in the house
- 54:26Speaker 4: all day, you know what I mean. And those are
- 54:29Speaker 4: the videos that were on Those are just facts. Yeah,
- 54:32Speaker 4: that time that that that I'm gonna have to say
- 54:35Speaker 4: three for that one too, three three.
- 54:38Speaker 5: Okay, I'm going two on that one because the sound
- 54:42Speaker 5: was different. It didn't sound like a generic R and B.
- 54:45Speaker 5: Wasn't the ballad, It wasn't like that neo soul thing
- 54:48Speaker 5: was still kind of new at that time.
- 54:50Speaker 4: I'll go to you love.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I found out like three months ago
- 54:56Speaker 1: that song was about weed.
- 54:58Speaker 4: Mmm is it?
- 54:59Speaker 2: Is it a or or is it about like some
- 55:01Speaker 2: of them are like some of the names are like strange.
- 55:04Speaker 2: We like guy.
- 55:05Speaker 4: Yeah, every but that's what that's what. Yeah, so like
- 55:09Speaker 4: the double entendre game. But like that's that to me,
- 55:12Speaker 4: the creativity and in that, I mean that was like
- 55:17Speaker 4: that was that was back when R and B was
- 55:19Speaker 4: being played on the radio constantly, like they were running
- 55:22Speaker 4: that record. I remember how ninety seven.
- 55:24Speaker 2: Was just always bombs, always shout out the bombs. Funk.
- 55:29Speaker 2: Fle's gonna be done at the Monday.
- 55:31Speaker 4: That's not true, he's changing his time slot.
- 55:33Speaker 3: That Yeah, rollout. We're never seeing you d J again.
- 55:42Speaker 4: You bumm.
- 55:45Speaker 2: We're not going to get into that because yeah, we.
- 55:47Speaker 3: Phoned it in, but we we talked about it before. Yeah,
- 55:50Speaker 3: all right, So where's.
- 55:51Speaker 6: A I had it at five in my list, but
- 55:57Speaker 6: I think we got it two and the three so
- 56:01Speaker 6: too too.
- 56:03Speaker 2: So we got two brown Sugar for crazy and love.
- 56:08Speaker 3: Okay, next song, Mary J.
- 56:11Speaker 4: Blige, you remind me that was her debut single, it
- 56:15Speaker 4: wasn't real love.
- 56:17Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure I looked it up. Let me see,
- 56:21Speaker 3: let me see, let me I'm not gonna lie. I
- 56:22Speaker 3: need some writer, let me see, let me see. It
- 56:25Speaker 3: says you remind me Wow, nineteen ninety.
- 56:27Speaker 2: One from that's not ringing the bell for me? You
- 56:30Speaker 2: remind me you were like the melody of it.
- 56:34Speaker 4: I keep I keep wanting to go. You're like you
- 56:37Speaker 4: are man. Everything that's a different Yeah.
- 56:40Speaker 2: Yeah, how did that song sound? Because I'm having you.
- 56:46Speaker 5: Oh that's a five for me.
- 56:50Speaker 4: That's good. Yeah, yeah, you walking? Yeah, give me.
- 57:02Speaker 2: Have to put that.
- 57:02Speaker 4: Growing up on the East Coast, that was ringing off.
- 57:05Speaker 5: It rang off, but but it wasn't it was It
- 57:08Speaker 5: wasn't real real love.
- 57:09Speaker 4: Was it wasn't real love? Yeah?
- 57:10Speaker 5: I think single is the one that that's going to
- 57:12Speaker 5: be a five.
- 57:13Speaker 4: That's fair.
- 57:13Speaker 2: Okay, yeah we can sorry, that's going.
- 57:16Speaker 4: To five, all right? See what you think about this one, Brandy?
- 57:23Speaker 4: I want to be down. Oh that might be two. Sure,
- 57:27Speaker 4: the Angelo is already too. I thought, oh, so we
- 57:30Speaker 4: got three and we want to open three. I want
- 57:33Speaker 4: to be down.
- 57:34Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like I feel like always sneaky.
- 57:37Speaker 2: You got a banger always waiting crazy.
- 57:39Speaker 4: That was that's see that like like like the most
- 57:42Speaker 4: important thing in in song is melody. I think there's
- 57:47Speaker 4: nothing more important than melody, right, Like you could have
- 57:49Speaker 4: what and when you say, if you just say the
- 57:52Speaker 4: words I want to be down people, you go, that's
- 57:57Speaker 4: just like y'all just did right now, Yes, you know
- 57:59Speaker 4: what I mean, I don't. I didn't hear when we
- 58:01Speaker 4: named any of those other songs. Nobody hummed the melodies, right,
- 58:05Speaker 4: And that's just such an incredible melody that it's gonna
- 58:10Speaker 4: be I'm gonna have to go number one.
- 58:12Speaker 6: But that's that's thinking. That's exactly what makes Brandy so
- 58:15Speaker 6: great is she she focused in on like melodies and
- 58:18Speaker 6: laying of her songs that like when the song hits,
- 58:22Speaker 6: you're you're you're gonna hummke, You're gonna sing.
- 58:24Speaker 2: It's just it's unnatural. I mean, it's just natural that
- 58:27Speaker 2: it's just we just.
- 58:28Speaker 4: Again we're talking about like the ranking is debut singles, right,
- 58:33Speaker 4: Like debut singles, you can't really like you're not gonna
- 58:37Speaker 4: hum like you know what I mean? Like, but that
- 58:45Speaker 4: I want to be down, man, that's that's cementing in
- 58:47Speaker 4: your brain.
- 58:48Speaker 2: All right, y'all went the bat real hard for it.
- 58:50Speaker 4: So we're gonna is gonna want one. I think that's
- 58:52Speaker 4: number one for.
- 58:54Speaker 2: Artist. That's how you break out what I want to
- 58:57Speaker 2: be top of that.
- 58:59Speaker 3: Yeah, she was out of what you got, So what's
- 59:01Speaker 3: going Whitney once Whitney stamp you.
- 59:05Speaker 2: That's just Whitney Houston stamped that.
- 59:09Speaker 3: So automatic Number three is going to be s w
- 59:12Speaker 3: V right here.
- 59:13Speaker 2: Definitely.
- 59:14Speaker 4: I think that's a good job.
- 59:16Speaker 2: I think we're good. I think we did pretty good.
- 59:21Speaker 3: Yeah, so the list would be number one, Brandy I
- 59:23Speaker 3: want to be down, Number two, D'Angelo Brown Sugar, number three,
- 59:26Speaker 3: s w V right Here, number four, Beyonce Crazy in Love,
- 59:29Speaker 3: number five, Mary J.
- 59:30Speaker 4: Blish. You remind me that's a damn good list.
- 59:33Speaker 1: If I had any complaint, maybe I was mad, But
- 59:39Speaker 1: I like your argument that it's a debut, but it's
- 59:42Speaker 1: not really and it's like kind of like you had
- 59:47Speaker 1: extra like.
- 59:48Speaker 6: It's steroards pumped to it's like paint on the song
- 59:52Speaker 6: in early two thousand.
- 59:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you got t paint on the song.
- 59:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 59:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that's prettydamn good list.
- 59:59Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, so that's our blind ranking for today like that.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: The next one is going to be like a this
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: or that. Okay, So I'm going to say an album
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: or I'm gonna say two albums, and you're gonna say
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: which which one are you going to want to keep?
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: God? What do you want to pick it up? So
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: we'll start mhm'll start off rough.
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: Alicia Keys, the Diary of Alicia Keys or Confessions.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: It's not roughness, okay, confession.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm going to confession. Okay, light work. But here's
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: both of those CDs with my own money from working
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: at Kroger.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Both those CDs down.
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: Yeah, so between Columbus, Ohio and New York. Okay, Kroger
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: Midwest thing too. I thought that was just in the South, No,
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: Midwest to Okay, yeah, yeah, it's actually the biggest grocery
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: store in the grocery chain in America. But you know
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: how groceries have like a bunch of different sub brands
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: underneath them. So in LA it's Ralphs, but it's Kroger
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: is the parent company?
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: Copy Okay? All right, So we've got.
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: Confessions, confessions, confessions or the immanse space of Mimi confession confessions. Still, yeah,
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: confessions or I can't say that Confessions or D'Angelo Voodoo Confessions.
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: Professions I like so much, great album, it ain't Confessions.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: I think you started off with the Michael Jordan that
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: the R and B.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: I didn't if anything can knock it off Confessions or
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: Aliyah the album Alia Confessions, Confessions, Confessions or Destiny's Child
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: Destiny Fulfilled Confessions Confessions.
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: I mean, you're asking a bunch of dudes.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: You start with okay, okay, Confessions or eighty seven oh
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: one by Confessions.
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: Personally, eighty seven oh one is my ship. I feel
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: like that that that album. Now again Confessions, no skips,
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: but eighty seven on one. I'm playing it back after
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: it's done.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: Eight eighty seven on one, has can you help me? Right?
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: That's the one where you don't have to call yes, yeah, yes,
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: that was like the number one.
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: That's I'm still going to Confession.
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: I'm still going to Confessions.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Listen to Confessional answer.
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: But yeah, for me, Confessions, it just stamps a time
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: in my life going from young man to adolescents, you
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: know what I mean. And it was just like I
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: just remember so vivid memories of just like growing up.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: All right, what's your biggest memory from that album.
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: Oh man, I don't know if I guess my lady's
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: right over the.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: Bathroom.
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: I just think, like, you know, this is just like
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: house parties getting your first dance, you know what I mean,
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: where like a girl's backing it up on you type
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: of thing, you know what I mean. Like that was
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: Confessions man handling. Yeah, you know what I mean. It's
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: just like just like, yeah, just being just being young
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: and like going from you know, not like you're just
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: hanging around your boys all the time, to like you
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: actually want to.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: Take a woman on a date.
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: Yeah, everything, you know what I mean, And now you've
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: got a little pocket change to do that. That that
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: is the Confessions and really in the dating world, yeah,
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: in the dating world for real, you know what I mean, Like, yeah,
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: that's that's just an usher was to me, like and man,
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: this is like what we need R and B that
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: can sort of teach young men how to court young women,
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: you know what I mean? And I feel like that's
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: what that album was.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of the R and B now dates
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: just straight to.
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: The Yeah you know, yeah, how do we get there?
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: How do we how do you probably respectfully get there?
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: You don't have like you know, I guess it definitely
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: was more of that back before, Like it was a
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: lot of I like to say, there's a lot of yearners.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: There's no.
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: I think they're out there, you know, but yeah, it was.
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: It was the other thing with Confessions that was so
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: dope with the songwriting on that was like, you know,
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: a lot of those records are about taking accountability, you
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: know what I mean, and like when you mess up,
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: what you need to do to fix it, you know?
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: And I think I think just like that real life,
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: the realities of love and relationships. Maybe sometimes that's missing
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: from a lot of the lyrics in today's R and B,
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: but I think it's out there if you, if you dig.
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: I think there's artist like Cleo Soul that I really
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: kind of God, I love giving giving you that that
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: incredible pen game and songwriting. Uh yeah, so you just
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: got you just gotta you know, I just gotta find it.
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: But I should wasn't just courting these women. He was
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: also playing in their face too, because.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: Every time I was in l A, I was with
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: my girl. Yeah, he's playing in their face.
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: Also with remind me he going up to a whole
- 1:05:42Speaker 6: bunch of random girls just be like, you remind me
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: of a young joy.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: That the one thing I had back in the.
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: Say yeah, he was like, listen, it's cool to I
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: appreciate you, but you you remind me of somebody.
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: That's why back to melody, man, That's why melody is
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: like the most important thing oftentimes. You know, I was
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: singing songs when I was a kid, like, uh, baby
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: went with grinds.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: Oh too close?
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess so exact we have.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: You know, but that song starts is crazy? Yeah what
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: if you can tell right now? Ye up? But had
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: no cre was singing at the top of my lungs
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: in the back seat. That's too much yearning for sure
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: right now.
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: Like the the artist that I would say that probably
- 1:06:34Speaker 6: on like the male side of yearning would probably be like, uh,
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: give you on like is like like he's he's he's
- 1:06:46Speaker 6: looking finding and also like talking about the trouble ships
- 1:06:50Speaker 6: of love?
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: Would you throw in that mix as well? I don't
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: listen to that much.
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: I don't think I was. I don't think I would
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: put in a yearning category. I definite would have given
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: you on that. Yeah, but I don't think I put
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: certain that he's not a proper yearner.
- 1:07:07Speaker 6: Because like, give me on crying on the tracks on
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: some of them, it's like, you know, I believe, Yeah.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: We need more singing in the rain R and B.
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: We don't have that that much anymore. Shirt open in
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: the world. Yes, yes, yes, it's like like.
- 1:07:24Speaker 7: Nipples in the breeze, like like uh, rag is one
- 1:07:31Speaker 7: wish which has been out for twenty years because he
- 1:07:34Speaker 7: just put a remix out with Jack Queese.
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: You know, you know, you know what's funny. I know
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: people don't consider this stat right, but you know, you
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: know the party next door in Drake record. But it's
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: like that's kind of yearning which one. I mean it's
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: some bad oh yeah, you know, the vocals not the same.
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: But but but you know what I mean, yeah it
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: is there. How did somebody about somebody? I know somebody
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: loves me? Yeah, like that is again, Yes, it's like
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: from a vocal standpoint, the vocal doesn't.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: Match like match the lyrics.
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: Yeah, but but well, what I'm saying is like when
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: you when you hear young men and women sing that
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: record out in public, they're yearning, like people will be
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: like like literally that ye, like for real shows all
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: the time, and it's like, you know that's what That's
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: the cool thing about R and B is like, there's yearning.
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: It just might sound a little different and look a
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: little different, but that's that's what yearning is now and
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: people and people are yearning to yearn exactly yearning. I
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: think we might drop a merch piece that says like yearner,
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: real yearn.
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: Not buying a heartbeat. That's what I need, bro. I
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: love a good ballot. Great ballat is gonna hit me
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: more any of tempo ships. Ten times out of ten,
- 1:09:01Speaker 6: I'm in the gym working out to R and B.
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: He but you're yeah, the song because thong song is
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: better song to tell me, I'm sorry, he said, tell
- 1:09:10Speaker 6: me how. He didn't even want to touch it. He
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: just I just want to know how you got that.
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: In those genes. Yeah, he did say that the way
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: you popping it, it's killing me, killing me, killing He's dying.
- 1:09:22Speaker 6: But Cisco was sold. But he said he was so
- 1:09:25Speaker 6: infatuated by that Throng that song. He's like, I don't
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: think you heard me that throng that on thro Throng.
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I just love the production on tell me like that.
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: I don't even know what's what those instruments are.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: But they got a couple of viol strings. Yeah, some harps.
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: It's like some harps on the harps of chord.
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: And it is that one. Yeah, I don't know what
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: that is. That's completely digital.
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: Can we rank the different types of R and B?
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: Like where's dirty Mac R and B? Okay, thirty mac
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: R and B? What are the other options we have?
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: Yearner yearning, yearning, Dirty Mac.
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: Like dirty macin is like Chris Brown, your man ain't
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: me anything? That was a yeah, all the things, all
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: the things man.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Won't do, he don't eat it.
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: Okay, So we got dirty mac in year yearning track
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: trapping trap maybe maybe it's called trap sole trap. So
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: that's definitely a genre in itself.
- 1:10:45Speaker 5: And then just old school that's just just that ballad
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: that that Baby I Want You type.
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: Of Is that different than yurning?
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: Well, there's begging, so it's it's me I think begging.
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: That's that's keep sweat, like the goat of begging, so
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: that he's a genre to himself. But like when it
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: comes to the Baby I Want You, there's the just
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: a generic love song type of ie where baby I
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: want you, but then there's the yearner that's like, you know,
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: I have to.
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: Have you, okay, okay, but then I think you also
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: got to put in like duets, you know what I mean.
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: That's kind of a thing. And so.
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: Another thing that R and B is missing.
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: We're not getting enough like collaboration.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: Collaboration.
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: I think we're getting in some collaborations Rising Tiller and.
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: Chris collab albums or just club women and men like that,
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: like like like yes, like like women and men.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: Well, so there's that.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Now Alex Osley and Sago that I love that j
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: good in Plenty and Alex Osley and my boy destin
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: mm hmm, well.
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: Together, that's like that's like the yeah, yeah, the Lucky
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: Day Lucky has one on.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: I just listened to that ship That Ships that's dark.
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: That album is dark.
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: Well she just went through Yeah, I mean those I mean.
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: Yeah, that's how I felt, you know, I don't feel
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: like I should be listening to this.
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: It was just like I'm just in a different space
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: and life paperwork like the album it's it's a lot
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: of interludes like yeah, but they're mad too, you know.
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: It's I just feel like like there's a pitchfork. Somebody
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: has a pitchfork while they're reading those you know, like
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: it's it's just.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: That that album is definitely going to hit the angry
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: hurt women.
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: Which that's what that's that's that's what it was for
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: group of the genre angry like let me scorn, let
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: me Yeah? Yeah, scoring the R and B is that
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: that's a powerful you'll make We need a playlist that's
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: like scorned arms, Yeah, learning and scoring.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: Who's a score? What's a good scorned R and B?
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: So Summer Walker, I mean, you know so much Summer
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: Walker's music is like really talking from real pain and hurt.
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: You can almost say that with aren't With Mary J. Blige,
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: there was a lot.
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: Of been through some things music, Yeah, the whole album? Yeah?
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: Or is that more revenge?
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: You can it's a combination, a combination because she gave
- 1:13:31Speaker 6: you both sides, Like she she gave you the how
- 1:13:34Speaker 6: could you do this?
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: But then she also gave you fuck you?
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: Yeah right, god damn, I think give you on also
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: maybe falling and scorned.
- 1:13:42Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah. All his ship is sad, sad,
- 1:13:47Speaker 6: I'm hurting music, which that's I love that. I love
- 1:13:51Speaker 6: that but I know that we asked our discord if
- 1:13:57Speaker 6: they had any questions for you, okay, and I know
- 1:14:00Speaker 6: that one question that peaked me in my side.
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: Now this is it might be a two parter, okay,
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: one which one are you going to ask?
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: Have you seen anybody at an R and B only.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: Get to I'm gonna say this correctly, get to in
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: the moment where it's like all right, y'all.
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: Gotta go yes, like many many of the times, how
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: far around the basis?
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: Like how far around the basis did you see let's
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: answer like that they just hunched on the DA did
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: you see somebody going at home base where it's like.
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: All right, y'all, are I really don't even want to
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: say this. I understand the fair that's no, I'm gonna
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: I'm gonna say it. I mean this is also like
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: a warning like please don't do this. Yeah, at our shows.
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: Or anywhere in public.
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: That are into it. Yeah, there was. So at the
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: end of our shows, there's a there's a we kind
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: of we internally call it the freak Hours, right, like
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: kind of the hosting DJ get off stage play a
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: very sexy sort of playlist and we just literally for
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: the last like fifteen to thirty minutes of the show.
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: We just let people.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: Listen for them to get out of there.
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: Yeah, during this time, we never forget this. But uh,
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: there was a couple that, let me say this, this
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: is a two partter answer questions. One time in a
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: different city, there were people they were like on the
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: floor and they were simulating oral sex, but like dancing
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: on the floor. This is on the floor of like
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: a concert venue that everybody has been dancing on and
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: there's drinks spilled and all this, right, and they were
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: they were like, they're just sticky simulating this. One person
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: was on the back, one person was you know yeah
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: and like kind of just like just and again there's
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: like there's also like a circle around them and people
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: are just like right. So I was like, Okay, I
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: thought that was probably the craziest thing I've ever seen
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: ever at a show until you know this. Uh, let's
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: just say the next time that I was stunned and wild,
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: was this actually was not a simulation? Oh and it
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: was in vivo. Yeah, it was actually happened live and
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: direct on the floor, that same action, just the same action.
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: God damn, you stopped them before the money shot. Oh
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: my I was.
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: I don't know how they stopped, but uh it did.
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: Oh you weren't there, like somebody told you, like are
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: we No?
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: No, I was there. I was at this show. I
- 1:17:03Speaker 4: this is actually caught on video. It was something that
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: we had to keep like locked away to completely like
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: get rid.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: Of that way.
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: Yeah, but but I just you know, it's it's it's
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: crazy what the power of music, you know what what
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: alcohol music? Yeah? That yeah, but I just was like
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: I just kept you know, we spoke as a team
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: after it was like you don't why wouldn't you just
- 1:17:36Speaker 4: wait until you get home?
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: And was it like jee suspend the freak the Freak Hours.
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: No, the Freak Hours are still going strong, but you
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: keep the freaking. But it's just it's just uh yeah,
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: I mean we we we you if you if you
- 1:17:54Speaker 4: ever go on our Instagram and you peruse some of
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: them like moments and clips, well we like to show cases,
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: like it really is like a we show everything that
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: happens at the show, everything that we can. And and
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: to be honest, most shows are just they're just a
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: normal it's like going to a normal concert. It's just
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: you know, just R and B music and people are
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: dancing with each other and you know, but at some
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: point sometimes people do take it. I don't want to
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: say a little too far, but people just that sounds
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: like it too far, that that's too far. But some people,
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: you know.
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: They just lost in the moment, yeah, you.
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: Know what I mean. Some people are getting on the floor.
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: Some people are you know, really enjoying the night with
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: their partner or somebody that they've just met, and they
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: just get excited. And we we like to show all
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: sides of R and B music because that's kind of
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: what it is. You know. There's like there's there's a
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: reason why want of the sub genres of R and
- 1:19:01Speaker 4: B is like called baby making music, you know what
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: I mean. And that's a part of the culture just
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: as much as like a ballad is. Right, So you're
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: going to see a room full of two thousand people
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: on our page like singing something from the Emancipation of Mimi.
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: But as well you're going to see like some people
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: just freak dancing, you know what I mean, and getting
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: down and dirty and all of it is a part
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: of like R and B music. But I will say, please,
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: that's the main camera right there, right okay right here. Hey,
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: you guys who are coming to the show, just do
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: whatever you want to do. That's extremely nasty and vulgar.
- 1:19:44Speaker 4: Please save that fro at home. We don't need just
- 1:19:48Speaker 4: scaring off the rest of the folks at the shows.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: That's more than fair.
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: Keep your pants on, yeah, keep it. Please, keep keep
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: your pants on, keep the zipper. Keep body clothes outside
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: of the other body parts.
- 1:20:02Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And that goes for that goes for everyone,
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: both men and women. You know, Like, I don't know,
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: as time has progressed, I've and I'm I'm a dad,
- 1:20:14Speaker 4: and I know I sound like old right now, but
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: I've just seen more and more, uh skin being revealed.
- 1:20:26Speaker 4: It's like from everyone, you know what I mean. And
- 1:20:29Speaker 4: I'm just like, you know, sometimes I'm just like it's
- 1:20:37Speaker 4: cool to like keep a little bit of mystery.
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: Yeah, now that I got that least, what's the wildest
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: outfit you've.
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: Seen, I mean recently, No, that that's kind of normal, sensitized. Yeah, Now,
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: I would say, uh, there's a there's a there's a
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: fashion trend going on with young women right now with
- 1:21:07Speaker 4: like these tennis skirts, I think all.
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: The bubble skirts.
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: Yeah, well, like you know that. I guess that they
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: look like skirts that you play tennis, kay, and typically
- 1:21:19Speaker 4: they're covering the butt right like until they're not. Yeah,
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: there was a young woman at a show recently that
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: just left nothing to imagination. There was there was the
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: skirt was above the butt, you know what I mean.
- 1:21:35Speaker 4: And it was like it was it was like it
- 1:21:38Speaker 4: was like a whoa a waistband like a yeah. And
- 1:21:42Speaker 4: this was something that everybody was like, every like fans
- 1:21:46Speaker 4: in the audience staff at the show, everybody was like,
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: what are you doing? Who's coming out like this? But
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: like Liza at the Lakers game, like you.
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: Get your booty off these seats here?
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: Yeah. But uh but you know, hey, that's probably one
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: of the wildest things that I've seen in recent times.
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: Yeah, let's say I think one more question before we go.
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: Do you have any advice or what one advice would
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: you give to someone up and coming trying to do
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: kind of what you're doing, not an R and B,
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: but just in that entrepreneurial space.
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: Yeah. So you want to produce like live shows or
- 1:22:31Speaker 4: you want to maybe what aspect of what I'm doing
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: mm hmm, because we, like I said, we have live shows,
- 1:22:38Speaker 4: media fair, I'd say.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: Who's somebody who wants to be the next Jabbari?
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: Or what advice would you give to yourself, the younger
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: version of yourself, the one that was just started out
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: doing colors.
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: You're just like he just got off that first bus
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: party in.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: DC, sweaty, everything is stinking in there, and you've teleported
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: it to him.
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: What do you tell them?
- 1:23:02Speaker 4: I would say to especially in a live space, right,
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: I would say, to find something unique, that a unique
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: experience that you can provide to the marketplace that can
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: just garner the interest of maybe fifty people. You know,
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: Like I think if you can get fifty people to
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: come somewhere and commit to you know, getting a babysitter
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: or getting a few friends, or like wearing a new
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: outfit and spending a few hours with you, I feel
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: like that's a good amount. And again I'm not talking
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: about asking for any money or selling any tickets. Just
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: just just figure out, yeah, you can get people, because
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: when people are coming to an event, they are there's
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: so many other things in their life that they're not doing,
- 1:24:08Speaker 4: and they're so like I said, like people have to
- 1:24:10Speaker 4: get a new outfit, People have to get a babysitter.
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: People have to figure out who they're going to said
- 1:24:14Speaker 4: event with. So there's a lot of commitment for getting
- 1:24:21Speaker 4: people to come somewhere in like the live space. And
- 1:24:24Speaker 4: I think that if you can get fifty people to
- 1:24:28Speaker 4: come anywhere, then you can get five million people to
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: come somewhere. It's just about like scaling that, right, and
- 1:24:39Speaker 4: if you can figure out something that you can do
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: semi consistently, and there's a world in which you can
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: extrapolate that from like city to city to city. Yeah,
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: I think you just have to just figure out, just
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: start small. That's what I would say.
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: We have fifty people at our first live show, so
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: by billion here we come.
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: First of all, we appreciate you for coming through.
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: I appreciate you all. It's been a good time. It
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: was a good time.
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: Make sure thank you to everybody that's listening, you know,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: rocking with us. Make sure you listen everywhere you can.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: You know, where you get your podcasts, subscribe to the
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: Patreon YouTube. Where can they fly? Obviously, where can they
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: fly as hell? But where can they find you if
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: they've never heard of you?
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: Just google R and B only. Another thing that I
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: would suggest is don't put any special characters in your
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: brand name. Uh so in mind there's an percent only,
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: I mean it's you know, it is what it is.
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: But uh yeah, it has become you know, a hindrance. Yeah,
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: I mean not a hindrance because there's nothing that oftentimes
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: we just we can't use the the percent in like
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: a U R L or social media. So if you
- 1:26:01Speaker 4: want to find us on yeah, yeah we have. There's
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: like on all social media, it's our n B only
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: with the letter N. But in general, if you just
- 1:26:09Speaker 4: google R and B only you'll find everything. I'd really
- 1:26:12Speaker 4: like for people to subscribe to our YouTube channel because
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: we're growing a lot there. And yeah, but uh yeah,
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: and if you want to find me, it's just Jabari
- 1:26:24Speaker 4: on everything all caps. But yeah, I own every single.
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: I was just about to say I was able to
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: just get.
- 1:26:36Speaker 4: Uh yeah yeah yeah, yeah, shout.
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: Out to Parker, but you ain't getting it back, boy.
- 1:26:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I have like Jabari dot com, YouTube, dot com, slash, Instagram,
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: Jabari most things I have and most things I have
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: because Twitter X just j if I if I if
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: I wasn't early enough to get it, then I had
- 1:27:01Speaker 4: to Yeah I had to. Yeah, strong somebody not strong,
- 1:27:06Speaker 4: toss toss a few dollars. Somebody bring a couple of caps. Yeah, uh,
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: a few. I had to send a few green backs
- 1:27:13Speaker 4: to get the dot.
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: And and the YouTube is colors right, YouTube.
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: Is R and beyond arm ye R and beyond it. Yeah,
- 1:27:18Speaker 4: just YouTube dot colors is also yours color. Well, we
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: have we do have a overall Colors worldwide our company.
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: But colors, there's a there's a big brand called Color Studios,
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: not to be confused with Okay, rather want the color
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: Color Studios. Big shout out to them. They do. They
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: do the performances for the artists with like a yeah
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: cool color in the back.
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: Because I was about to say, wait, you're doing that tuesday.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: I wanted to clear that up.
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: Different company. Yeah, a big shout out to them. Love

- 1:28:32Speaker 1: yeah we we Hey.
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: Since you're talking about R and B, we we've been
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: been spitballing this little fig hum that we go by
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: size and pots. None of us are seniors, though we
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: don't have to be.
- 1:28:48Speaker 4: Oh Mike, okay, all.
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: Right, I am. I was about to say, we're not
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: here to give out the vocals. We're out here just
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: to make good news.
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: Some background.
- 1:28:58Speaker 6: Mellody and is looking for it's enough computers where I
- 1:29:02Speaker 6: can sound like genuine tomorrow.
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: We're not.
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: We're just looking for your automatic unwaivered commitment.
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: To the thigh Surprise music to just access to your database.
