- 0:45Welcome back to the boundary Corner podcast, I am Curtis
- 0:49Wilson. I'm Brian seagull buddy.
- 0:52Back here on a Tuesday night. We're moving past the bitch that
- 0:57was last Friday and we're going to put it to bed tonight and
- 1:01then we're going to move on to Boston College.
- 1:04Well, we're gonna go in here. We're going to make some
- 1:06corrections. We're going to close the book
- 1:10other than the game Friday night.
- 1:11It was a good time, I mean, right?
- 1:14You You came over, kids came over kids frolicked, we had
- 1:18drinks great food. Oh yeah, at the Wilson man cave
- 1:23here. That's some Gino's had some,
- 1:26some G and T's had said a little little this little than that.
- 1:30Well this little that and in the game came on and and then let's
- 1:35just get right to it you know, hope you start on one in the
- 1:38printt ride regime era or the loss of 22:17 and A lot of anger
- 1:45on this game. We felt it Friday night.
- 1:47Brian the game ended about what 10, 35-ish you stayed around my
- 1:52house or another hour as we vented?
- 1:56Yeah, definitely would have been a good reaction podcast, but I
- 1:59don't think I was venting and a lot of little bit of inebriation
- 2:03and little bit of cursing going on there.
- 2:06We've done that before. But this is a little different.
- 2:11So, I mean, we've done podcast where I'm sitting in Boxer
- 2:14shorts on the deck in Gatlinburg podcast and live after after a
- 2:20game. So you know we could have pulled
- 2:23the trigger there but I think this new format is going to work
- 2:26better for us digest things. I get to look at the tape again
- 2:33and we get to kind of put put to bed.
- 2:36What was a bitter taste? I think for Week 1?
- 2:41You know a lot of anger, you know, regardless, Of the
- 2:45situation. I feel like that's when you
- 2:48can't lose. No, not just because of the
- 2:51opponent but also because when you look at your schedule You
- 2:56know you hate dropping one of those games that is very
- 2:59winnable. You know we're not we're not
- 3:00going to say it's an easy schedule.
- 3:02There's no easy games out there, you still gotta line up and play
- 3:05and that we proved that on Friday night.
- 3:07You still got to go out there and execute, you still got to go
- 3:10out there and play the game. The way it needs to be played.
- 3:12And there were a bunch of bunch of parts of that game where we
- 3:15didn't play with the way, it needs to be played, no, not at
- 3:18all. And let's start with the biggest
- 3:19part and probably the biggest swinger that game was on special
- 3:22teams and literally, Maybe. The ugliest effing long snap of
- 3:28all time. That literally, when it felt
- 3:31like, it went 35 yards and it leads to that ODU score.
- 3:35I mean, it got snap to Suffolk to Suffolk, from from Norfolk.
- 3:40Yeah, that's impressive. And that kind of proved to be
- 3:44the one of the story that OT you needed us to screw up the score
- 3:51and it started there, you know, they will 73 right there, they
- 3:55get That to go 710 and it just it was one of those anytime
- 3:59there is a anytime you're the favorite any time you considered
- 4:04the better team are plays like that that happened and as soon
- 4:08as it happens it's like that's a confidence grow up for them.
- 4:12They took the lead and you know, special teams just all night
- 4:17besides that. Obviously, I mean a 54-yard loss
- 4:20in the net. Rushing.
- 4:21Don't let the rushing stats fool you we did run the ball pretty
- 4:24well but Overall, take that into account a bunch of holding Block
- 4:29in the back for 30-plus joins that really, really hurt some
- 4:32good returns by Keshawn king and a really good punt return by DJ
- 4:38Harvey. So on the DJ Harvey it would he
- 4:41was past the 40 and been startled behind the 15 and it's
- 4:44like, we blew our feet all in that element of the game.
- 4:48Yeah. It was almost a 30 yard penalty
- 4:52on the, on the Harvey punt return.
- 4:53Yes, you had a good solid. Return.
- 4:56And then, you know, you have to back up 10 from the spot.
- 4:58So that heard those other penalties hurt and penalties was
- 5:03really the biggest part of this game.
- 5:06Other than that big play in the snap and a couple interceptions
- 5:09by Grant Wells. But let's go ahead and pivot to
- 5:12the offense and Wells, you know, finish the game with four picks.
- 5:18When you look at the tape, I mean that all on him I'd say
- 5:24take the Hail Mary out. Take Take the hell marry out.
- 5:27You know, you don't know who's to blame on that first.
- 5:32One, there was definitely some miscommunication between what
- 5:35wells thought, yeah, Smith and or Gallo we're going to do and
- 5:39what they actually did. But the the other thing is the
- 5:43prop, the problem here is that there were 22 that were critical
- 5:47and bang one. Yeah, one, you got Pressman on
- 5:51an out route. You shouldn't throw it in.
- 5:54If you're going to throw it, you definitely can.
- 5:55Throw it inside that got picked off.
- 5:58That's essentially three off the board.
- 6:00There, you're in field, goal range, and as long as you don't
- 6:04put it into Suffolk or stepping in the Suffolk, you probably get
- 6:07the, get the three there three there.
- 6:10And then the other one, you know, me and Curtis were talking
- 6:14about it when we were watching in real time, and then when I
- 6:16watched again, I kind of saw the same thing that's a ball.
- 6:20You just got to either throw in the dirt or if you're going to
- 6:22take a risk there, take a, take a calculated risk down.
- 6:25The field where you're either burying them deep or you did the
- 6:28first down. There's no, there's no sense in
- 6:31throwing three yard completion with a linebacker bearing down
- 6:35on your running back and even then probably throw was a little
- 6:40too much juice on. It could host have done better
- 6:43and brought it in, maybe but Haiti, but that it should have
- 6:46been thrown, it shouldn't have been thrown.
- 6:48That's all it is. And if you're going to throw
- 6:49even if you go to throw that, you got to throw it sooner
- 6:52before the linebackers on your running back.
- 6:54It's one of those. Those mental things where it's
- 6:56like, you either, eat it, and throw it at Jalen, holsten's
- 6:59feet live another down, allow Peter more to punt it and make
- 7:02them go, hopefully 95 yards for a game-winning touchdown.
- 7:07But to your point it's that okay, you gotta know, down
- 7:11distant situation, it was third down.
- 7:13It was, it was more than 10 and you're throwing it.
- 7:16Three yards. Go downfield, you hit somebody
- 7:18downfield the way. They were throwing Flags, it
- 7:21could have been a phantom Pi call and essentially ends a game
- 7:23right there. And and those are the those two
- 7:28mistakes which they were critical errors.
- 7:30Because If you punt the ball again, they went 60 yards on
- 7:36their last Drive, they did not have to drive extra.
- 7:40One of their field goals off of one of the turnovers.
- 7:44That was like okay. Like you you're setting them up
- 7:48one of their other one of the other.
- 7:50The first time ever they got it in until they didn't move the
- 7:52ball but they got us pinned deep against it.
- 7:54All the turnovers were just in critical areas of the field
- 7:57which you can say with there's a critical error everywhere in the
- 7:59field but the reality is for us, it was They pinned us the then
- 8:06short field for them. We took points awful, it wasn't
- 8:10like, it was one of those pigs where it's like this hurt
- 8:12nothing. Yeah.
- 8:13He threw a pick to the 15-yard line from the from their 40. 50
- 8:17k2d, Punk, who I think. By the time we got to the middle
- 8:21of the second quarter. Just before the first pick, I
- 8:23think we kind of at that point knew all right.
- 8:26This is probably going to be a game where points are at a
- 8:28premium as we're going along. And the problem that we had is
- 8:32that we left points. Lots of all over the field.
- 8:36I said it, I think I tweeted it. The grounds crew for ODU, is
- 8:41going to still be picking up the points.
- 8:42We left on the field by the time we recording this and they
- 8:45probably are between, you know, the Lofton catch down at the 3,
- 8:52yard line to set of it first and goal that was offset by the OPI
- 8:57which and you it was a valid opinion.
- 9:00God, the problem is it had zero impact on on the route?
- 9:05So not that it should have been flagged but it's just completely
- 9:09unnecessary, both on our port and everything else.
- 9:12So that that one hurts because that's a play where it's a first
- 9:17down, whether he commits the penalty or not, and then right
- 9:22after that, you know, you miss on the, on the retrial and third
- 9:25down and now all of a sudden you're against snapping the ball
- 9:28in the Suffolk. We got to got to clean up, the
- 9:32mistakes. The mistakes were the, the
- 9:34biggest part of the game, impacted the game.
- 9:39The most procedurally. I've never seen that many
- 9:43procedural penalties in a game. I say that until I watched
- 9:50Rutgers BC, there was a fuck. Ton of them in that game too.
- 9:55I want to say, I want to say Rutgers.
- 9:57Was it like eight penalties in the first half?
- 10:01Either eight or nine penalties in the first half.
- 10:03All right, well let me ask this just for reviewing the tape
- 10:07being that Collegiate level is that something that can be
- 10:10cleaned up and I'm not saying I'm expecting us to go from 115
- 10:14yards of penalties, you know, close to on the offensive side
- 10:18of the ball, almost 50 yards and procedural Pinto, 30, 30 yards
- 10:22and procedural penny. Is that something being cleaned
- 10:24up in one week or is that a slow go?
- 10:29I think there's some that can be cleaned up.
- 10:30Up pretty quickly. I think the the pies are
- 10:34probably going to be the hardest thing to clean up.
- 10:38I'm talking about the defensive ones when you look at the blocks
- 10:42of the back. I mean that's you watch film,
- 10:45you coach it. There, that should be an easy
- 10:48fix. When you talk about the
- 10:49offsides, that should be an easy fix.
- 10:52I don't know about the whole Dax calling the snap count thing
- 10:56because it was a silent count. So how do you call that?
- 10:58But that's neither here nor there.
- 11:01But, you know, things like that. I think could be cleaned up, so
- 11:04if you ask me like yes, 75% of that can be cleared up pretty
- 11:07quickly. The other 25% is going to take
- 11:10some time. Okay, let's hope the 75 is
- 11:13really quick. All right, let's talk about
- 11:15offensively kind of some Right spots.
- 11:18Let's talk about Keyshawn King because that kid blew up over
- 11:22100 yards. Look great on the hundred on the
- 11:25shooting. The kick return look good in
- 11:28pass Pro, shout out Eric Carr out there today.
- 11:33Putting that showing did you see the block?
- 11:35He got you a gift. He absolutely destroyed that
- 11:37linebacker. Come on.
- 11:39Yeah I think it will talk about the dead truck later.
- 11:42I'm going. Bring it up now.
- 11:43He's one on the depth chart and when Malachi Thomas comes back,
- 11:46From his injury. He should be one be, and I'm not
- 11:49showing any disrespect to Jalen Holston.
- 11:51The guy obviously is a team player.
- 11:54He does all the right things. But when we looked Friday night,
- 11:59Keshawn, King broke a big 30-yard had over 100 yards
- 12:02chance black came in and broke 20 yarder.
- 12:04Yep. And Jalen.
- 12:07Fortunately only had about 16 yards on four carries and I know
- 12:10he was banged up. I know he was banged up.
- 12:14But it's one of those things where you get to a point.
- 12:17It's you love a guy doing everything right in practice but
- 12:19if you put them in the game and it just it doesn't click.
- 12:25I think this is a coaching staff that will reward that and we
- 12:29kind of already saw when you know black got more carries and
- 12:32King really blew up. Yeah, I mean kudos to King for
- 12:37really sticking with it. Yeah, during the times I know he
- 12:42I'm sure there were times in the last two seasons where he was
- 12:45extremely frustrated with his role in this offense and seeing
- 12:50him getting his opportunity and taking the most of it.
- 12:54That's big so kudos to him like what he was doing.
- 13:00There are areas of like maybe, you know, here there where he
- 13:06was, you need a little bit more Vision, or a little more
- 13:08patience, but I can't fault the kid.
- 13:11He ran hard, he ran, well, he was, he did good.
- 13:14Once he got to the second level making guys miss and kind of
- 13:18finishing the run. And as you said with Holston, I
- 13:22mean, I get he's banged It up, and that's definitely, you know,
- 13:25not practicing all week hurts, especially for Week 1.
- 13:29But that being said, holsten's, a guy that's been in this
- 13:32offense, a lot in his hand opportunities At some point
- 13:38unless we see something significantly different happen
- 13:42this week, you know, I feel like he's a guy that can that has
- 13:46more of a minimal role for us going forward.
- 13:48Then a guy that's going to be kind of the Bell cow.
- 13:52So that's just where I'm at right now.
- 13:54At this point, we'll see if, you know, if you turns in some more
- 13:58opportunities this week against Boston College where he's now,
- 14:02number two on the depth chart number two on the depth chart
- 14:04now. Yeah, That's going to be
- 14:06interesting to see because again, we had a great day
- 14:09running the ball, especially Keshawn King.
- 14:13Let's take a look at the tight end room.
- 14:14Nick Gallo, obviously, you set it.
- 14:17Since February Titans are going to be featured, a ton, Nick
- 14:21Gallows, seven catches 49 yards, Double D in there, as well for
- 14:27catches 24 yards. So 11 catches combined.
- 14:31And I mean, I think you said it and obviously, if these Trends
- 14:35kind of Old up for the whole season that room is going to
- 14:37have a lot of receptions, a fair amount of yards for both the one
- 14:43and two for the one and two tight ends.
- 14:46And I know we saw you pointed out to me a couple times.
- 14:50You saw some good blocks from them, but you also said, it's
- 14:53something that they've still got to get better at yes, especially
- 14:57Gallo, I think Gallo is a guy that blocks really well out in
- 15:01space. He needs a lot of work.
- 15:05Is in line blocking and some of its just understanding, what is
- 15:10assignment is based on the alignment of the front, we saw a
- 15:15bunch of up a bunch of times where he was just going after
- 15:18the wrong man. Shipping at the wrong area.
- 15:22Sometimes just flat getting beat when he did.
- 15:25Have those kind of one-on-one opportunities with the defensive
- 15:28end, he's got to get better at that and hopefully, you know,
- 15:32with some extra practice in the in the system at least Hill.
- 15:35He'll get those opportunities to at least get the scheme in the
- 15:40block right because sometimes just getting there is good
- 15:44enough, letting a guy go completely on block because you
- 15:48did the wrong thing is never a good thing.
- 15:50Yeah so the whole thing hope he can clean up but again
- 15:54continuously I think those are going to be mismatches, I'm sure
- 15:58you're hoping they bring your boy on we did not see him Friday
- 16:01night but I think as the season goes is Brent processing.
- 16:04This pressure today it's We're continuing that we have to
- 16:07continue to create the depth. So yeah and I think you'll see
- 16:11more of him once he understands the offense, he still he's very
- 16:15much, you know what, for five weeks into this thing at this
- 16:18point, so I think that's going to come with time.
- 16:23I think we saw what Harrison Saint-Germain for a couple
- 16:27plays. I think he was out there a
- 16:28couple plays but you know, he had a spring, he probably has a
- 16:36little bit better grass of the system, so if you're going to go
- 16:38into that, that 40, that's probably why he was getting a
- 16:42snappier there. Especially since we didn't see
- 16:44Connor blumberg very much until the you know, Hail Mary started
- 16:48coming out there true. True going to be interesting to
- 16:52see that. Now, speaking of Bromley,
- 16:53because when he ran those routes, that was out of the wide
- 16:55receiver position in that room is hurting right now.
- 16:59Obviously Kayla Smith got hurt during the game after having a
- 17:02big catch early, having 45 yards in the quarter that he Laid
- 17:06clearly he was going to be a big part of the game, the process
- 17:10that he's day-to-day he is listed on the depth chart.
- 17:13I don't know if that's for show, we never got any information
- 17:16about what his injury was. So I want to see how that goes
- 17:19but you know, the whale often had a couple good moment.
- 17:22Steven guys, nail had a couple good moments but that that room
- 17:26overalls hurt and if Caleb can't go for a couple weeks really
- 17:31this week more the next week. I mean that's gonna hurt that
- 17:34room and where you're probably going to have to see Connor
- 17:36Brent. Yeah, the question is going to
- 17:39be is if you don't want to rush Caleb back but at the same time
- 17:44if he's good you want him to go if he's not good, you probably
- 17:49want to hold him off and maybe even hold him off against
- 17:50Wofford before you, you know, welcome the Mountaineers in the
- 17:54town on Thursday night so that's kind of where I'm at with him.
- 17:58I'm hoping that he's going to be good to go this week.
- 18:00I think getting more game reps with Wells is going to be a
- 18:05Thing. So I want him to get out there
- 18:08as much as you can, but obviously, I don't want to rush
- 18:10a guy back. It is has one of those soft
- 18:13tissue injuries injuries, or something related to an ankle or
- 18:16something like that. Take the time, you need get,
- 18:19right? Because we're going to need you
- 18:21more in October and we need you in September.
- 18:24That's very, very true. All right, let's flip out that
- 18:28room. Let's look at the offensive line
- 18:30and sir, I'll give you what is seeds grades for the offensive
- 18:35line. Run past and the cumulative.
- 18:39For rushing grade. I give it a C+.
- 18:43I thought I saw some good things always saying, we went over 200
- 18:47yards in your eyes say we're just slightly above average for
- 18:51that. Yeah.
- 18:53I mean they're the problem is is that there were problems across
- 18:59the board that kept rearing their ugly head throughout the
- 19:01game. Okay.
- 19:04I'll say a couple things so And I'm going to get to this in a
- 19:10second, but Parker Clements did not have a good game across the
- 19:14board. I thought Johnny, Jordan could
- 19:18have been better in the Run game.
- 19:22I would like to see him in play better in the Run game.
- 19:26Not not bad, not a lot of negative plays but not a lot of
- 19:30see, a lot of dominance out of him.
- 19:32He should have been able to kind of reckon there so that was
- 19:36disappointing as far as past pro d - and I know you say okay we
- 19:43didn't give up you know sacks but There were there were
- 19:47moments were Wells was getting hit as he.
- 19:48Let go of the ball, obviously on the big plate of Caleb, he got
- 19:51freaking clobbered as he let it ball go and that that was a dime
- 19:57but he got on the interception. He was getting he had pressure
- 20:02in his face, coming from the right side, the first
- 20:05interception. And so he was getting pressured
- 20:08all night. I'd like to see him.
- 20:10Maybe, speaking of well, step up and maybe try to take off a
- 20:13little bit more as those Extra pressure is coming in but the
- 20:20tackles did not play very well in past Pro.
- 20:23Saudi - great overall for them in past Pro and cumulative
- 20:29grade. I'm going to go D plus I could
- 20:31go c-minus d-plus but I'm gonna go D.
- 20:33Plus in this case, the negative plays I saw were impactful and
- 20:42I'm going to call out one person right off again, I already spent
- 20:46said his name. I'm going to call out parties,
- 20:48Log House, seeks, dog. Houses Parker Clement everybody.
- 20:52Yeah, yeah, yeah. Parker's in the doghouse this
- 20:55week, I need to see better play across the board from him next
- 20:58week, and he's shown, he can do that.
- 21:00So that's why this was such a disappointing performance
- 21:05because he showed at times last year, he can be depended on at
- 21:08right tackle, you know? But he was, he had like four or
- 21:12five Olay blocks. Called Lookout blocks or you
- 21:17know a guy run past you just turn around and yell look out to
- 21:19the quarterback. We had a few of those just
- 21:24looked not as polished almost like he was thinking too much in
- 21:28the Run game and I'm going to I'm gonna give somebody else a
- 21:34little bit of a shout out. But I'm also going to gonna say
- 21:38a few things about them. Jesse Hanson didn't have an
- 21:41awful game, but Jesse Hansen is slow as shit with his polls.
- 21:47That's not a good thing for a wisconsin-based running attack.
- 21:50Then we're going to He's got to get faster with those.
- 21:55I don't think that's a. I think that might be an issue,
- 21:58I think he is what he is. I mean, but if he's more
- 22:00consistent in the straight ahead and then the past Pro, how much
- 22:05do you get out of young more right?
- 22:08Dwight Vic chiming in. Don't understand why they don't
- 22:11bring a defensive guy over for some offense I think it's death
- 22:15right now the white because I think the guy I would look to to
- 22:18bring over would be like DJ Harvey and he's literally your
- 22:21top nickel Corner your top Returner and he's your number
- 22:26two Corbin, Dorian strong. So if you put them over the
- 22:30offense and he takes getting and he gets banged up, you're losing
- 22:34a guy at threefold. So you're saying in the 2000s.
- 22:39Yeah. You had Macho and D Hall playing
- 22:41both sides, but you had some dogs behind them to.
- 22:44You are deep behind them who are deep behind them in those days.
- 22:49So again you know if the depth is built next year, maybe We can
- 22:54do that. But I don't see that right now.
- 22:56But um, let's flip it over. Let's do talk about the defense
- 22:59for a few minutes and the white brought up moving a player over.
- 23:03I mean, the defense to me played very well all night under 250
- 23:07total yards for ODU, the defense itself only gave up 13 points
- 23:13which really impressive that you kind of see that now.
- 23:19Are there some things we need to get home with?
- 23:21Yeah, we'll have one sack. We were there a lot.
- 23:23We only came home once I know that's a big something.
- 23:27You were kind of watching that. We were one step short multiple
- 23:30times. We could have either been a sack
- 23:33or Or at least affecting Hayden throwing the ball.
- 23:42Yep. Yeah.
- 23:44I'd like to see. Miss get home at least two more
- 23:46times and there was like, I said, a couple times, we were
- 23:48there close, you know, we still ended up again, one sec, we had
- 23:54two forced fumbles, seven tackles for loss.
- 23:57We but this email was nine. Numbing is that you know, we
- 24:00still are missing those tackles in the backfield where you got a
- 24:03quarterback or running back dead to rights and somehow they say
- 24:06By you and get either solid gains camper for a first down,
- 24:10something like that. We got to stop those because
- 24:13those are the ones that extend those drives and end up costing
- 24:18you points. You know, we had we had Blake
- 24:22Watson dead to rights in the backfield on that.
- 24:24Fourth down play and you guys and somehow he's scored it
- 24:27through. They'll stop and they'll stuff
- 24:31to watch. That's something we've seen the
- 24:33last few years is just not cleaned up and I hope we would
- 24:36see it better. Now, I will say this, my lining
- 24:42on that at least nothing they may have broke out of the
- 24:47backfield but nothing went for anymore.
- 24:50I think maybe four yards was the longest where it felt like the
- 24:53last three to four years. It had been if they broke out of
- 24:55that, it was just a lot of air in front of them for 15-yard
- 25:00games that's not feel on it. Now, the other one you mentioned
- 25:04it a few minutes ago, where the penalties three penalties on
- 25:08defense and for penalties, excuse me, counting the Dax
- 25:11which we're still trying to figure out that rule, but the
- 25:14other three were for 30 yards. All Pi, the biggest one though,
- 25:20was the one that wasn't a pi, and that was the ball.
- 25:24It was a key, fourth, and two, they go shot on the left side of
- 25:28the field. The ball went 10 yards over
- 25:31bound as soon as we it was thrown.
- 25:33You can see it, hit the white mark on the outside of the ODU
- 25:37sideline. The white Mark is essentially
- 25:40the Box can cut the coaches, can go into correct and it's that
- 25:44white car. They can't go into that.
- 25:46Yeah, it on the outside of that your being here.
- 25:49Well, funny story, me and Brian are screaming at the television.
- 25:52My wife walks in be like the kids are asleep.
- 25:54I'm gonna close the door. Now we got, we got We can get a
- 26:00little rambunctious there. I mean, that was in that that
- 26:06but them get down field and get three points.
- 26:10Yeah, and the thing you hate about it is that I mean by the
- 26:14letter of the law, P i was committed but the ball was not
- 26:20not a catchable ball and that's where the problem is.
- 26:25I feel like that that rule doesn't get applied very often
- 26:29at all near know what nowhere near enough.
- 26:32I mean nowhere near be defined catchable.
- 26:35You know these guys aren't Stretch Armstrong, they're not
- 26:38out there you know with being to catch it with attachable Limbs
- 26:43and all this other stuff making plays.
- 26:48Yes, it's frustrating. But you know, those are
- 26:53penalties that I feel like If we didn't have all the other stuff
- 27:00I'd live with those. Yeah.
- 27:03Yeah. But especially considering how
- 27:04much we were bringing pressure and things like that.
- 27:07And how much these guys were in? Kind of man or de facto man,
- 27:11looks and secondary. I'm okay, I'll be okay with
- 27:15that, you know, three or four p is a game.
- 27:18I'm not gonna be that angry with, especially if it's ones
- 27:23where You know are either questionable like the one we're
- 27:28talking about that was out of bounds or stop the play.
- 27:32That could have been even bigger.
- 27:35You know, I'd much rather take the pi.
- 27:37Then take a 50, 60, yard gain, very true on that.
- 27:41Very true on that. A lot of other weird stuff sort
- 27:44of aftermath. Obviously the one everybody knew
- 27:47about in the middle of the game, was the coaches getting stuck on
- 27:51the elevator from down the locker room up.
- 27:55I've never heard of anything like that in my life.
- 27:59How does that happen? In a pretty new facility down
- 28:02there? And it was Pearson.
- 28:05And it was Sean Quinn trunk when they got caught in there along
- 28:09with some of the analysts because the first person you saw
- 28:11come back with Pearson, obviously that was thing.
- 28:15And then the blumrich and the fan, rushing, the field
- 28:17incident, Which he made an apology.
- 28:22And after the day it does not appear.
- 28:24That he will face any sort of suspension.
- 28:28It's really funny. You know, who Andrew Friedman,
- 28:30is here in Richmond, right? Weather guy.
- 28:33He's a UVA Grant and he put this big tweet out.
- 28:35Like I see, nothing wrong with you.
- 28:37Did like guys running at the field, you don't know what's
- 28:39going on, like, they're taking their lives into their own hand.
- 28:43Rushing the field, right? Yeah, I mean, I didn't see
- 28:47anything egregious. He saw a guy running at him.
- 28:49He lowered his shoulder. A little bit and you know yeah
- 28:54may contact got fell down, is what it is.
- 28:57I don't it's not something that we should be making more of a
- 29:00work. I mean the apology is fine.
- 29:02I don't think it was necessarily necessary but if you make the
- 29:05apology that that should be the only thing that we need to do
- 29:08and then you just keep it moving.
- 29:10Yeah. So as bad as those two things
- 29:12where the shittiest part was, what happened during the game,
- 29:16to our players locker room with some they're saying between I
- 29:20mean, I've heard eight, I've heard 10.
- 29:21I've heard twenty thousand dollars in items, stolen, and
- 29:26these when you in soon as you hear that, these are our players
- 29:30and our coaches personal belongings, you know, it is,
- 29:33it's probably guys, change is probably as watches their
- 29:36iPhones, whatever they carry with them.
- 29:40Yep. And odu's, wonderful security.
- 29:43Just let's guys dress up as janitors and just go on in
- 29:46there. If nothing else they want to
- 29:48keep this series. Every game should be in.
- 29:50Expert. Because clearly You know, I
- 29:58mean, people are talking about canceling, the series over this
- 30:00and I'm not with that. And I'll tell you one thing, one
- 30:04of the biggest reason, why for me, is that, at this point, it's
- 30:06a pride thing. Okay, if you cancel the series
- 30:10after losing back-to-back games in their house, it looks like
- 30:15you're running away from a fight and I don't, I don't think we
- 30:18can pull that whether it's something that went wants to
- 30:22entertain or not, Wouldn't have it at this point because that
- 30:26that's the way I would perceive it.
- 30:28I would perceive like, okay. And that's the way a lot of
- 30:30people were saying oh, you guys are ducking playing in Norfolk
- 30:33now. Oh yeah, it's true, it's true.
- 30:37Now if we go back and like 70,000 dollars get stolen from
- 30:41the locker room and you take the dummy we.
- 30:44Yeah, if we go down there and beat them by four touchdowns and
- 30:48shit, still get stole, okay, let's have a conversation then
- 30:50but can't go down there and lose. by 32, a G5 team and they
- 30:55were like, yeah, I think we're going to cancel the series
- 30:56because there was theft Alright, so there we go.
- 31:04Let's shut the book is closed. It ODU over we start BC week
- 31:09this week, but before that, we obviously got some news and
- 31:13obviously some of the bigger breaking news today, Brian from
- 31:17Virginia Tech my son Kelly out of DW.
- 31:21Daniel High School in Central South Carolina just north of
- 31:25Clemson. A three star quarterback commit
- 31:28It's to the Hokies. I don't know if that was late in
- 31:32the day. I don't know if you got a chance
- 31:33to take a look at this tape yet, I would have a chance to look at
- 31:37the tape. I have done a little bit of
- 31:39research on the kid. I mean, you know, I know
- 31:41Louisville was pressing hard for him.
- 31:43I think Oklahoma had given him an inviting supposed to be down
- 31:48there this weekend. He canceled.
- 31:49That to commit to Virginia Tech. So that's a, that's a big move,
- 31:54you know? It's again, it's not a You're
- 31:58the best really blows your skirt up in terms of accolades and you
- 32:02know, Big 4 star 5 Star type player.
- 32:04But it's another solid player that we're adding.
- 32:07And I think it's the type of player that fits what Virginia
- 32:10Tech is trying to do on defense. Yep.
- 32:12And it's another player from that 5 Hour radius northern part
- 32:17just south of Charlotte there. So obviously he's in the radius
- 32:20that we're continuing to Pummel pretty hard with the kid
- 32:24committing. It does take us where around 39
- 32:27in the overall Rankings and I haven't looked at that.
- 32:32A lot recently, I was really the season gets kicked off.
- 32:35We're sort of focused in on this, you know, few teams above
- 32:40us, have more commits than we do.
- 32:42So there are a couple chances that we could potentially jump
- 32:45back up into that 35 range. Under that's kind of brides.
- 32:48I this year's long as we get to it.
- 32:50So it'll be interesting how that plays out.
- 32:53All right, Brian, let's go to some other news and notes from
- 32:57the world of college football. And let's start with the portal
- 33:00decision that came out just a couple weeks ago.
- 33:03Basically saying that now, there will be two windows for portal
- 33:07transfers. The first window will be 45 days
- 33:11essentially after the playoffs are announced.
- 33:14So roughly early December to mid-January and then the other
- 33:21is going to be a 15 day period from May 1st to May 15th.
- 33:27This is effectively IE, if you look, there are some spring
- 33:30games that are on the 27th 28th, sometimes even the 30th, this is
- 33:34roughly, the after Spring Mall period.
- 33:37What do you like? What?
- 33:38Don't you like? What I like is the 45 days after
- 33:42the playoffs, it gives you enough time for players to
- 33:47evaluate their circumstances. Evaluate what's out there decide
- 33:52that the portals for them. Put themselves out there, it
- 33:55also wants, you know, you're wrapping up that It still gives
- 33:59you some time as a coach. To look at what's left and kind
- 34:05of fill in some holes that the portal created, whether you're
- 34:09grabbing guys from the portal, whether you're closing out a
- 34:12class before the second signing day there.
- 34:15So at the, I like that aspect of it.
- 34:18I wish that the Met Peary was maybe a little bit longer full
- 34:23month. It least another week.
- 34:26Yeah. I mean, I'd say go at least 25
- 34:28days, that's what I would go there.
- 34:32But I'd be okay with a full month, so that's a little short
- 34:36to me. But I feel like It's probably
- 34:40enough time, but I would have rather had maybe, like I said,
- 34:43at least another week or so to kind of really flesh that out.
- 34:48But this is a lot better than what we're dealing with now.
- 34:51And let allows coaches to while our roster building a lot, a lot
- 34:56better, you know? And now you got a situation
- 34:59where, you know, guys, once they make the decision in May, you're
- 35:05in, you know, they're buckling up for the the upcoming season.
- 35:09You're bottling up. You trying to get yourself on
- 35:11the field with paid before potentially announcing in
- 35:13December. Again, we've been mentioning
- 35:17that it needs to be some control of this it you know it's good.
- 35:22The players have this ability to transfer essentially when they
- 35:26want to or wherever they want to.
- 35:29But now the wind is the big part because what you don't want is
- 35:32obviously you think about when roughly that first period end,
- 35:37it's going to probably be right. To the National Championship,
- 35:40three weeks before national Signing Day.
- 35:42So your point already if you like a kid and maybe someone
- 35:45maybe one of the underclassmen leaves the room, take your spot
- 35:48there. But also think about the
- 35:51implication when it comes to the winter workouts about there.
- 35:57You've got those staffs putting enormous amount of time and I do
- 36:01a lot of that team but it's how they start individually.
- 36:04Start focusing on kids right at that point in time.
- 36:07If you got five kids, who don't I want to be there then they can
- 36:10essentially be gone and obviously more time for the
- 36:13other kids, I like the other piece and you mentioned and we
- 36:15talked about it, this afternoon, which added You now have
- 36:19coaches, once May 16th hit. This is our roster.
- 36:25Where I deficiencies where our strengths, we're not waiting on
- 36:29potentially some guy in July to commit to us.
- 36:32This is our team so storage strategic planning goes.
- 36:37Lot easier. Also think about those color.
- 36:40Can't those camps. We've talked about and kids
- 36:43going to become in the next cycle.
- 36:44You know what your teams looking like can people leave the next
- 36:47year? Yeah.
- 36:48But the whole thing is, this is what we look like right now,
- 36:51where we going to need help. So it's really helpful for not
- 36:57only the Hokies, but all School strategically to decide how they
- 37:01want to recruit and how the game plan you're going to look coming
- 37:04fall. Yeah, it is.
- 37:05I think it's going to help the portal players, too, because I
- 37:07think with having the window guys won't be kind of lost.
- 37:13In the in the salts, right? I think a lot of guys put their
- 37:16names out there, not in those times of year where everyone's
- 37:21focused on there. So if you're not a big name with
- 37:24your name out there in the portal, sometimes that's going
- 37:26to get lost the day. You got everybody, putting their
- 37:30names in within the certain periods.
- 37:33It's a lot easier to have a guy that okay.
- 37:36Well, I saw his name at the portal.
- 37:38Let's, let's see what he's about.
- 37:39Let's get some tape on him. Let's see how he practice.
- 37:41Let's see if you got any game. Last year.
- 37:45Absolutely. So good thing overall for the
- 37:48sport. Good thing overall for
- 37:49everybody. but then there were something better that is in our
- 37:54opinions that are overall for the sport long-term and that is
- 37:59the cfp essentially approved, a 12 team playoff, Something
- 38:06obviously we have had an episode Brian gave his his his diet
- 38:13right out back last winter. And believe it or not there are
- 38:18some things that Brian discuss that it's like, they listen the,
- 38:23the first one, I think me and you talk today.
- 38:25The best one was the first essentially.
- 38:29Six will be the highest six Frank Conference champions and
- 38:34then the next Six highest-ranked teams.
- 38:38Now the big part of that is you have to be a conference Champion
- 38:42to get a top four seed. Yeah, I think I know we both
- 38:46love that. That's the one.
- 38:47I like that's the one. I think everybody should know
- 38:50that because it's like you've actually got to do something on
- 38:52the field against a significantly good fo to earn
- 38:56something, not just be given a top.
- 38:58See if I think that's the big thing is that, you know, these
- 39:03conferences exist for a reason. Reason, you're playing the extra
- 39:06game for a reason that's got a matter.
- 39:09It hasn't mattered for a long time, you know, I think gone are
- 39:13the days of that, you know, one or two loss, Alabama team being
- 39:19in the top four because they're not going to be that team.
- 39:22That played the extra game. I mean, you can, you can apply
- 39:24the same logic to a Georgia or to an Ohio state had lost to a
- 39:27Penn State or Wisconsin, you know?
- 39:30If you don't play for and when your conference Championship,
- 39:34You're not going to be there, so that that matters again.
- 39:37Now, you can still make the playoffs but you will not be in
- 39:40that top four seat and that gives everybody a shot because
- 39:48if you win your conference you're in the playoff, you very
- 39:51well could be potentially in the playoff.
- 39:53As long as you hate to say this, that year pit went six and six,
- 39:57I don't think they would have made it in that year.
- 40:00But if you are a, if you're somewhere between a 9 and a 10
- 40:03win team your and you're in the power 5, you're likely going to
- 40:07be higher than some G5. I think this also sets a
- 40:11precedent that there is going to be a G5 schooling every Here
- 40:15without a doubt. You start going back and looking
- 40:17through the times, always, at least one.
- 40:21Now, the other one, this is the one that kind of got me Jack.
- 40:25So 1 through 4 gets about, those are for conference championships
- 40:29counting Samuel. The next 18 s will be playing
- 40:32games and they will be at the higher seeds either home field
- 40:37or a designated site determined by the higher.
- 40:41See I love that because a it's I'm just waiting for the day, a
- 40:49typically team that plays in sunshine and 75 degrees has to
- 40:54go to a place Like Madison or Ann Arbor or places like that,
- 41:01where it's like, so what's the temperature going to be negative
- 41:046? Yep, yep.
- 41:05You know, it's going to be a foot of snow on the ground.
- 41:08I'll tell you what I'm looking forward to.
- 41:09I'm looking forward to potential appstate, hosting one of those
- 41:14games all have state hosting one of those game.
- 41:16Well, let's just do it back here.
- 41:17Think of that Marshall game back in twenty twenty nineteen, that
- 41:23we had a play in 2018, You 2018 when it was like 31 it was
- 41:28yucky, it was foggy. Those are some of the best games
- 41:32because it's like you can't out scheme.
- 41:36Someone it literally is going to be a physical game and I think
- 41:39seeing some of these potential venues you know, you take a look
- 41:44and you kind of think about last year seeing some of those venues
- 41:48on that stage right? That seeing those venues on that
- 41:51stage for a super meaningful game.
- 41:56That will shout out somebody. We're probably getting to this
- 41:58at some point in the offseason and people continue to say, they
- 42:03do not think it changes. Recruiting she had out, John are
- 42:07all out there who me and him he put together some data for me
- 42:11about how much top 300 Talent goes to certain schools.
- 42:15People continue to say well it's not going to change it's not
- 42:17going to change. How can that be?
- 42:19So how do you think it's not going to change if teams are
- 42:22getting two different levels of Of success.
- 42:26We saw that with the Hokies, right?
- 42:29The Hokies were team that recruited in the 30s.
- 42:31Got good started, recruiting in the 20s and then the team's you
- 42:35see this with so many. So every time I see someone well
- 42:38it's not going to change the way recruiting works.
- 42:39Yeah it is yeah it is couple of the other things, obviously it's
- 42:45going to be shaping up will be for quarterfinal bowl games and
- 42:49then obviously the semis and in the finals.
- 42:53Again, I think overall it's to me, it makes everything for the
- 42:59sport significantly better. Because some people say, well,
- 43:04oh, well, you know, some games just won't matter.
- 43:06And unless it's a playoff, I can't remember who said it,
- 43:10can't remember. I think it was Desmond, Howard,
- 43:14He literally just said this, you're going to give 20 to 25
- 43:17teams, hope at the end of October.
- 43:20Yep. Hope In hopes a dangerous thing.
- 43:25Yeah, yeah. I mean a lot of us are still
- 43:27coming off the the Hopi. Oh man.
- 43:30We're still detoxing after you know, getting ready for it and
- 43:34then we have one lost open the year.
- 43:36But yeah. So we talked about hope we talk
- 43:38about You know, you get into October, you still got something
- 43:44to play for and not just your conference Championship, but you
- 43:46got a chance to play in the playoff and playing a big game,
- 43:51potentially host a big game in the playoff, that's going to
- 43:54boost recruiting. You can't say it won't boost
- 43:56recruiting. There's going to be trickle down
- 44:01to these schools. Well, be, if I'm not saying is,
- 44:04I'm not saying it's going to be significant.
- 44:06I don't say, I don't think all of a sudden, if you know a
- 44:11what's the school? That's like kind of in that top
- 44:1325 well, it used to be a spy, but if we're if we're being
- 44:18realistic here, I don't know, man.
- 44:25I mean I was staying. I don't think I would stay, I
- 44:27don't think I would stay. So all of a sudden start
- 44:29recruiting like Alabama. No, but I think there could be a
- 44:34boost with that National brand getting even more prominent
- 44:38being on TV and then see the whole thing is it's the aisles.
- 44:44It's the more eyes on you or they're going to be some
- 44:46absolute destruction games. Yes, there is.
- 44:50But that's every week in college football, we've been On the
- 44:54we've been on the in the Hokey, in the last 10 years have been
- 44:57on the wrong side of some. But we got on the right side of
- 44:59some just dog stomping competition.
- 45:02So that happens even when two teams are fairly decently
- 45:06matched up. So I don't want to hear this.
- 45:09Oh, but what about the? What about the ask weapons?
- 45:12Last weapons happen, all over. Well, here's the thing last
- 45:15year, that the Bills and Patriots just shouldn't have
- 45:17played that game Ron. The bills are so much better
- 45:20than the Patriots, they shouldn't have played that game.
- 45:23In the Bills beat the shit out of them but they played the
- 45:26game, right? You played the game, you give
- 45:29someone a chance because who's not to say that the best player
- 45:32on your team, doesn't get hurt in the first quarter, he doesn't
- 45:34come back and even teams like Georgia like Alabama
- 45:37localhost:8080 certain players they lose on their teams you
- 45:42know, as well as I do. Those teams are not the same,
- 45:45it's true. It's true man.
- 45:49So overall wealth in playoff and they are saying 2026.
- 45:54I'm going to be straight up with you dog with my cousin.
- 45:57I think. ESPN going to Fast Track it to
- 46:0024. Well, I think they see what the
- 46:02ratings are doing for the non college football, playoff games,
- 46:05and they're like, all right. Well, If we have these games,
- 46:09they're going to, they're going to draw more ratings in the
- 46:12current bowl games are that aren't affiliated with the
- 46:14college playoff. So let's add those in.
- 46:17Let's get a couple extra games in, December that matter?
- 46:21Yes, and he's home environment Center.
- 46:26And I mean he'll they can still do like a college game day for
- 46:28those if they wanted to all. They'll I mean they they
- 46:31undoubtedly would you done? Download go to the biggest one.
- 46:34Heck, if you're in the honest truth is you might send
- 46:38different people to every location for that game.
- 46:42So it'd be interesting to see what they do.
- 46:44Oh yeah. Alright so before we get into
- 46:46the main topic tonight about knowing the enemy looking at BC
- 46:50we are going to take a quick pause from our commercial

- 47:15Now back to the episode All right, Brian.
- 47:18So now some of our favorite time of the week and that's Know The
- 47:23Enemy. Let's take a look at BC and
- 47:26let's start on the defensive side of the ball.
- 47:29Let's take a look at cam Arnold the linebacker.
- 47:32Number 56, 1 227 pounds. He was a three-star out of the
- 47:372020 class from Orchard Lake. Michigan, what are we seeing on
- 47:41the cam? Arnold Kate.
- 47:43Okay. Emerald is a former safety so
- 47:45he's got pretty good. Speed.
- 47:47This is his first year starting at linebacker.
- 47:50They kind of converted him. This offseason.
- 47:53They had him there in the spring and he earned the starting role
- 47:57coming to the season. What I'm seeing is he's really
- 48:00good at pursue what you would expect from a safety rate, but
- 48:03he's still working on shedding blockers in the box but he does
- 48:07make plays he flies around and he's pretty good in coverage as
- 48:11you would expect from a safety that's kind of moved into the
- 48:13box. There he does a good job of
- 48:16coverage. Out there on a running back and
- 48:17isolated. Where are we seeing him?
- 48:20Primary lineup is he playing well?
- 48:22Or she playing a little bit more on the outside.
- 48:25So he would be in the in the four to five in the Bud.
- 48:28Foster 425. He would have been a backer.
- 48:31Okay. Yeah.
- 48:32Alright awesome. Solid game up against You have
- 48:38against Rutgers had five tackles last year in a primary backup
- 48:42role, you know. 60 plus tackles three-and-a-half and loss in a
- 48:46sack. So obviously a young guy who is
- 48:49finding his coming into his own quickly in this half a defensive
- 48:54scheme. Now I know another guy you said
- 48:56the popped off at the tape while you were watching that game on
- 49:00Saturday afternoon by the way. Brian watch truckers BC, twice
- 49:07life. Twice, you deserve like statues.
- 49:12Well, you deserve a drink for that.
- 49:14But let's talk about Vinnie DePalma.
- 49:21What are you seeing out of any De Palma?
- 49:24He's more of a traditional inside backer kind of that
- 49:27prototypical Mike type player. He does really well in the
- 49:30blocks inside the box as a tackler.
- 49:35Sure. And getting guys to the ground,
- 49:37probably one of the better in terms of just pure mechanics and
- 49:42tackling that you'll see on that defense they don't really use
- 49:46them as a Blitzer and they don't really rely on him a lot in
- 49:50coverage. He's not on the field when
- 49:53there's an obvious path situation, so when they go
- 49:55nickel when they sub, they're pulling him off the field pretty
- 49:58regularly. Yeah.
- 49:59And I'm seeing Bryce steals name a lot when they come and doing
- 50:03that obviously dipalma, you know, a linebacker, you know, 61
- 50:09about 225 was a 20-18 three-star commitment to the Eagles.
- 50:18Obviously, this is his covid year.
- 50:21Yep, I'm not mistaken. This is his covid year.
- 50:23He should have been gone last year, solid, season last year.
- 50:28Fifty three tackles a few tackles for loss.
- 50:30So I think the one thing is had nine tackles against Rutgers.
- 50:34We're going to see his name a lot regardless, my hope is its
- 50:38further up the field then at the line of scrimmage but when he's
- 50:43in there I mean that's kind of his job, right?
- 50:47Yeah, he's kind of he's that guy that's kind of cleaning up in
- 50:49the middle there. Obviously, we hope that it's
- 50:52going to be more of that, you know, 56 yards, downfield before
- 50:55that contacts made instead of at the line of scrimmage.
- 50:59Absolutely. All right.
- 51:00So let's flip from the linebacking corps and let's take
- 51:02a look at the defensive back room because they do have some
- 51:04pretty good players there and let's start with a pretty highly
- 51:08talented guy that came to be sivaya transfer from Florida
- 51:12State and that's Jaden would be a six-foot-tall.
- 51:16You pay on defensive back safety.
- 51:18How to Fontana California at The Perennial power st.
- 51:21John Bosco out there a top 50 player top 10 safety in the
- 51:27country. Of course star, when he first
- 51:29came out, what are they using him as now?
- 51:34Obviously for him to get that haffley experience with the go
- 51:39coach in the NFL potential chance to land in the NFL.
- 51:43If it's plate warranted this year, Yeah, he's kind of playing
- 51:48that that nickel whipped tape roll you definitely, as we've
- 51:54seen in the more modern version of this defense, more of a
- 51:56nickel type type position with with heavy coverage
- 52:00responsibilities, they like to match him up against the tight
- 52:04end and the slot and he does really good in that role.
- 52:07He's good in coverage, especially in man coverage but
- 52:12he's also really good at coming down and filling against the
- 52:14rush. So you kind of Cleans up that
- 52:16spill area, they're pretty good as well.
- 52:18So he's definitely I'd say the best overall Defender, all that
- 52:24defense just because of how balanced he is and how much he
- 52:27can impact in the in the passing game and in the in the Run game
- 52:31and I'm assuming to would his body type and athleticism that
- 52:36lends itself to do a lot of things all over the field.
- 52:39Yeah. Yeah, they'll use them a lot of
- 52:41different ways, he'll Blitz. They don't Blitz a ton but when
- 52:44they do the, he's he's one of the primary guys that's blitzing
- 52:49and like I said, they liked him in coverage and they like him to
- 52:51kind of clean up the spill area and kind of press that edge.
- 52:55All right, so remember the name, Jaden would be not a huge
- 52:58popping game against rocker just five tackles one for loss, so
- 53:02we'll see how it goes. Now.
- 53:04Let's take a look at probably what you told me is their best
- 53:07corner. Elijah Joan.
- 53:09Six-foot-two cornerback from Harlem, New York played at
- 53:13Cardinal Hayes. High School with Reese are
- 53:15recruiting the 2018 class. What's Elijah Jones showing you
- 53:20Brian? He's their best coverage Corner,
- 53:25kind of a good balance of all. Three, kind of disciplines.
- 53:28They're good in man above average, press about average
- 53:33Zone. They usually match him up
- 53:36consistently against the best receiver on the other team.
- 53:39They I to at least so we're probably gonna have to scheme
- 53:44some guys away from him to get some additional spacing in the
- 53:49passing game. You know, he had a pretty had a
- 53:55pick against Rutgers took it back.
- 53:57Almost 40 yards, consistently, it looks like he's always been a
- 54:01good tackler you know, 25 plus tackles every season he's played
- 54:08All right, does it? Worry you if Caleb can't go?
- 54:12Does it worry you? That he would probably be
- 54:14matched up what probably Lofton or you think someone else?
- 54:17It depends on what we decide to do with Connor plumber.
- 54:22As weird as that sounds, that does sound weird.
- 54:26It does sound weird. I think, if we don't have Caleb,
- 54:30I think mixing in Connor is probably the best plan B, just
- 54:34because size and athleticism. He's the closest approximation
- 54:39to Caleb. So he could probably do some of
- 54:43that and fill that role a little bit.
- 54:47I don't think he's as dynamic as Caleb is.
- 54:49I think Caleb right now is probably our best overall We're
- 54:53all receiver on the roster right now, so but there's you know,
- 54:58there's some potential there to get blumrich, some extra
- 55:01touches, and it might be something that that happens.
- 55:04It might not, I do hope to see blumrich out there in on the
- 55:09field more than we saw him this past week because I feel like he
- 55:12does create some mismatched problems.
- 55:14Well let's let's just this is kind of flipping Hokies that
- 55:18sideline pass well. He actually made the catch.
- 55:21He was out. Out of bounds.
- 55:22But that catching itself was impressive and it's what we
- 55:25would have been in bounds. If the safety didn't come and
- 55:27knock you out the safety pushed in.
- 55:30So if nothing else, he's big body, just any, got some speed
- 55:35to send him down field. Can I ask this though?
- 55:38And we talked about a little earlier, I don't you can explain
- 55:41if they decide to match him up on Loft and obviously he's got a
- 55:44significant size weight advantage on the way in Lofton.
- 55:48What can we do to get DeWayne? Because we did see doing with
- 55:53some wiggle with a couple good catches last week.
- 55:57Yeah, I think we probably move in motion a little bit more to
- 56:00try to get some spacing at the snap.
- 56:03I think you try to scheme him. Open some more.
- 56:08You know, we saw We saw a play last week where we had to post
- 56:14to one side off of play action and we're and a krauser from the
- 56:19other side. Underneath that.
- 56:21Had to clear out play-action worked on the like sucking the
- 56:25linebackers in stuff like that. My give him a little bit more
- 56:29room to operate. You know, we might see some
- 56:32other other other techniques to get him open.
- 56:36I guess. I think the biggest thing is
- 56:38going to be getting him in motion where they're not able to
- 56:40get in his face at the snap. All right.
- 56:42Good to know. All right, let's talk about last
- 56:45player. Let's look at the defensive line
- 56:47and Donovan is a rock. Ooh.
- 56:52I did not go to the pronunciation guide on that one.
- 56:54Let me see if I change either was very waku as my guess is
- 57:01your rock. All right, I didn't hear it
- 57:04enough on the PA during the game to tell you exactly what it is.
- 57:08All right, well, either way he's number 6, keep an eye on and
- 57:11huge game against Rutgers 9 solo tackles Not usually, eight solo.
- 57:20Tackles two tackles for loss, a sack, he forced to fumbles.
- 57:24He was everywhere. He's 62.
- 57:26He's 236, so definitely little under sized defensive in
- 57:30Williamstown, New Jersey, and a freshman back yet, or a, or a
- 57:36freshman last year, sophomore, this year.
- 57:38So, a relatively young player when he was a three-star, what's
- 57:43it say, what's this? What's the tape?
- 57:45And what you see with him versus Rutgers?
- 57:49He pops out on tape. He kind of reminds me of bar.
- 57:51No light. Okay, looking at him, they use
- 57:54them. A lot of the two-point stance
- 57:56coming off. The edge just like we did in
- 57:582021 with bar know. He has good speed coming off the
- 58:02edge. He disrupts, he has shocking
- 58:06amount of strength given his size and youth at this point and
- 58:10he uses that strength due to his Advantage.
- 58:12So probably a little bit stronger against the rush.
- 58:19But it's still a guy that you could potentially run at in
- 58:22order to mitigate some of that that speed rush off the edge and
- 58:26the way. We again, look for running the
- 58:27ball at might be the way to go. You mentioned kind of various
- 58:31pieces throughout talking about each of these Players.
- 58:34Let's just get high level on their scheme.
- 58:37Yeah, and I talked about it, it's a four to five.
- 58:39It's very, very familiar so system in terms of the scheme
- 58:43but they're less aggressively blitzing, it's more akin to the
- 58:48I am model then it would be the Bud.
- 58:51Foster model, they don't Blitz the time.
- 58:56They rely on their pursuit in the Run game and getting
- 58:59pressure with four in the past game.
- 59:03So they're comfortable setting back and they're comfortable
- 59:05playing various coverages and they don't bring a ton of
- 59:10pressure. All right, so I guess that a lot
- 59:13goes into haffley being, an NFL guy with his roots, right?
- 59:18Because you don't see as many aggressive schemes in the NFL,
- 59:21it's a lot more rush for play zone or various schemes.
- 59:25Some Zone, some man. How do you think we can attack
- 59:30this? I mean, the big thing is that
- 59:34kind of force them to over-pursue fooled them with
- 59:38misdirection that would be the primary way.
- 59:42I would attack them is, is try to get them pursuing one way in
- 59:46attack than the other. They do push hard when they're
- 59:53attacking the in the Run game and in the short passing game,
- 59:55they will get to the spot. So if we can get their eyes
- 59:59tricked, I think that's the best way to About it.
- 1:00:03All right, let's flip over to the offense, take a look at
- 1:00:06that. And obviously we're going to
- 1:00:09talk about Folger Kovac first, the six-foot-five now. 214
- 1:00:15pounds, took a little weight off of it from last year, if you
- 1:00:20remember him, Gibsonia outskirts of Pittsburgh for star in the
- 1:00:242018 class of the top five quarterback top 100 player.
- 1:00:29Bridgely went to Notre Dame. Came to To BC in the 2020
- 1:00:36portal. He is currently one in one
- 1:00:39versus the Hokies in his career. And is there anything different
- 1:00:43popping this year compared to when you had a review for him a
- 1:00:47couple years ago? Because obviously we didn't play
- 1:00:48him last year. We did playing last year.
- 1:00:51You just had there were he was a game-time decision?
- 1:00:54Yeah yeah we were, we were preparing for a couple different
- 1:00:57options last year so we didn't necessarily Focus as heavily on.
- 1:01:02Jerk over. Just because he was somebody
- 1:01:04that we were familiar with from from previous season.
- 1:01:09I'd say, the big thing is the weight loss.
- 1:01:11He's still a big guy, but he's got enough wiggle and speed to
- 1:01:14break the pocket when necessary. You know, we've seen it before
- 1:01:18he's got a big and mostly accurate arm, he can get the
- 1:01:22ball. Downfield can throw on the run.
- 1:01:23Pretty well sometimes throws the ball, a little too flat on those
- 1:01:28intermediate routes. So we got opportunities there to
- 1:01:30pick them off their little Order to catch.
- 1:01:32So we might be able to you know as long as our Corners have good
- 1:01:37angles. There might be some that are
- 1:01:38hard part to catch there. But the big thing is that he
- 1:01:43does take risk with his body by staying in the pocket too long
- 1:01:46and taking unnecessary hits when he's scrambling.
- 1:01:49So that's going to be the opportunity to fluster him.
- 1:01:52Get him off his game. Rutgers did a good job in that
- 1:01:55in that game as it went on getting after gjakova.
- 1:02:00Can kind of taking them a little bit out of his game because they
- 1:02:05were somewhat dealing or early on in that game, especially the
- 1:02:09connection between him and The guy we're going to talk about in
- 1:02:13a couple minutes and as things were on Rutgers kind of started
- 1:02:17hitting him and it wasn't going quite the way they wanted to
- 1:02:21anymore. So that's going to be that I
- 1:02:23think the biggest thing we can do to attack him he will make a
- 1:02:26mistake with the football when he tries to do too much.
- 1:02:28So we got to do better than we did this past Friday night and
- 1:02:33when those balls are hitting our BB's in the hands of got to
- 1:02:37bring that in, if I was going to ask about that.
- 1:02:41That because you know he threw three touchdowns he threw almost
- 1:02:44300 yards under 60 percent completion percentage.
- 1:02:46We threw the two picks were they because he got hit forcing, or
- 1:02:52what it looked like with the two picked when you watch the tape,
- 1:02:55it was a mix of everything. The first one looked like he was
- 1:02:59more, just rushed the ball out, wasn't where it needed to be the
- 1:03:09One of the I think was a backer or a nickel was playing for
- 1:03:13Rutgers was playing, kind of that deep flat and he kind of
- 1:03:17saw where Phil's going, within sank back and picked it off.
- 1:03:21The second was more of a pocket was collapsing type deal.
- 1:03:25Alright so one of those essentially something we saw a
- 1:03:29couple times bad decisions being made.
- 1:03:31Let's hope that he makes more versus the Hokies.
- 1:03:35Now let's be realistic here it is.
- 1:03:37Boston College. So the They seem to run the ball
- 1:03:41and with Pat Garo you know what's he what's he looking like
- 1:03:49this year you know the 5 foot 8, 2008 from Levittown PA top 10
- 1:03:55player NPA in 2019 a three-star. What's he looking like this
- 1:04:00year? The first game it's kind of hard
- 1:04:04to tell. He looks like he has a little
- 1:04:06bit more juice in his legs. He did lose a little bit of
- 1:04:10weight in the offseason just like your Kovac did.
- 1:04:14It looks like his ability to bounce out and get to the edge
- 1:04:17as a little bit better than it was in years past.
- 1:04:20But he still a patient Runner and mostly between the tackles
- 1:04:24not really Elite Speed, especially he's not going to
- 1:04:27break one, a big one. If he gets to the second level
- 1:04:31unless there's kind of clear sailing ahead of him.
- 1:04:35And he's not really used a ton in the passing game.
- 1:04:37That's definitely not his strength, but they will
- 1:04:39occasionally throw the ball to. I'm here there when they need
- 1:04:41to, but he had probably one of his worst games against Rutgers
- 1:04:46and it was one that actually started pretty well.
- 1:04:49Most the yards that he got was in the first quarter and a half.
- 1:04:53Oh wow. I mean, he only had 25, he was
- 1:04:57under two and carry against Rutgers.
- 1:05:00And I mean, this is a guy who last year, you know, thousand
- 1:05:04yards rushing over five of care, you know, seven touchdowns.
- 1:05:07Obviously he's not a big pass catcher because he kind of is
- 1:05:11what he is. But I think we're going to get
- 1:05:15into why potentially, he is struggling a little bit more
- 1:05:19this year, but let's talk about the one guy on offense that
- 1:05:25Cannot let we cannot let him beat us and that is a flowers.
- 1:05:30You know they flowers every year just seems like he's there
- 1:05:36catching balls making plays, you know 22 touchdowns down his
- 1:05:41four-year career there, he was a three-star, he is a Florida kid
- 1:05:45from down in Fort Lauderdale in 2019 and I mean 117 yards with
- 1:05:51those two touchdowns on Saturday, man.
- 1:05:54He he had Game. That's pretty big.
- 1:05:59Yeah, he's a dangerous deep threat.
- 1:06:01He's also that home run hitter on that short stuff.
- 1:06:04So he has a has a big yards after the catch game, along with
- 1:06:09being a deep threat that can that can burn you deep down
- 1:06:11field. So got to make sure we're not
- 1:06:13allowing home runs to him. Don't let him beat you with one
- 1:06:16play. He also plays the ball.
- 1:06:19Well on on back shoulder throws, which we saw heard us against
- 1:06:24ODU a couple times. So we got to be cognizant.
- 1:06:27That when he's in those deep routes, he's going to come back,
- 1:06:30try to make a play on the ball if it's under thrown and does a
- 1:06:33really good job with that, he had won the first touchdown that
- 1:06:36he caught was kind of an incredible kind of combat back
- 1:06:41shoulder where, you know, I don't know how he got how the
- 1:06:44ball got in there but it did and he was able to make the play on
- 1:06:46it. He's also a big-time threat in
- 1:06:49the return game. So we got to do good on special
- 1:06:52teams, containing him there as well.
- 1:06:54Yeah. So you know, again, we have that
- 1:06:57one guy on the outside that can be that can beat us and, you
- 1:07:02know, we just, we cannot let it happen because you know, in
- 1:07:06their first couple games this year, it's really been.
- 1:07:09It was a and then the next guy we're going to talk about, you
- 1:07:12know. No one else had any more than
- 1:07:15two catches against Rutgers. Other than Zay flowers in George
- 1:07:19takas the number 80 tight end six-foot-six 247 pounds out of
- 1:07:24maple. Four-star.
- 1:07:26When he came out in 2018, again, went to the Irish then
- 1:07:30transferred to be see. I feel like BC has their portal
- 1:07:35school already set up when it doesn't work out there and you
- 1:07:39know, just this week, seven catches 84 yd.
- 1:07:44I feel like between flowers and Tack is, we're looking at the
- 1:07:47same two guys again, just like we did at ODU.
- 1:07:51Yeah, I feel like Boston College is becoming like the relegation
- 1:07:55school for the Irish, anybody that's not consistently starting
- 1:08:01or transfers out of at a Notre. Dame is heading over to the to
- 1:08:05the other Catholic school there in Boston.
- 1:08:09But, I mean he's had back-to-back games.
- 1:08:13We've now had big athletic, tight ends that were dealing
- 1:08:16with And tag has had a good game against Rutgers, they like to
- 1:08:23use them up the seam on kind of the shallow crossers and those
- 1:08:27quick outs and where he's going to hurt us.
- 1:08:29Probably the most is up the seam so that that's the one we got to
- 1:08:32be cognizant of and he's primarily used as a secondary
- 1:08:36read within the offense. He's not not the primary very
- 1:08:39often will hit him. Hit him on a couple of routes.
- 1:08:42Where he's the first look but usually he's the secondary read
- 1:08:46within the game. What about blocking do?
- 1:08:51We need to worry about him on the line.
- 1:08:52He does have good size obviously, or is it not in his
- 1:08:55game? He blocks, well, it's not his
- 1:08:59strong suit but it's not a liability either.
- 1:09:03All right, so there they are in now Brian.
- 1:09:07Let's talk about where their biggest issue is and it's
- 1:09:10something that I think probably shocked you a little bit as you
- 1:09:12were looking at it and that is the offensive line.
- 1:09:16I mean obviously I mean this week running the ball mean they
- 1:09:23barely broke 40 yards. They had a total of actually
- 1:09:27they didn't break 30 yards, 29 yards on 28 carries not good at
- 1:09:33all. What is it, what is it showing?
- 1:09:36What is that lunch going now? Yeah and some of that's negative
- 1:09:39yardage on some sacks but it still was a pretty garbage
- 1:09:42performance by the offensive line and the running game is a
- 1:09:45whole this is not offensive line you this year guys, we're not
- 1:09:50looking at your typical Boston College, offensive line.
- 1:09:54They are pretty much all young and inexperienced after the ACL
- 1:09:58injury to Christian Hagen e this off season, that really We put
- 1:10:03them behind the eight ball, they had one returning, seasoned
- 1:10:06veteran and then you lose him too, right?
- 1:10:10Now they're looking like in terms of guys with experience
- 1:10:14Ozzy trapillo whose class of 2020, started a couple games as
- 1:10:18a four-star, Prospect out of high school, he's really the
- 1:10:20best linchpin they have in terms of that.
- 1:10:24And I think he's had two starts in his career before before
- 1:10:29Rutgers. So The Run blocking wasn't bad
- 1:10:35but it was so inconsistent that they couldn't really
- 1:10:37consistently, get to the second level and they just BC felt like
- 1:10:41they needed to abandon that because it just wasn't getting
- 1:10:45the getting them ahead of the sticks.
- 1:10:49And when they went to pass Pro, it was even worse when they were
- 1:10:53early in the game when things are a little more balanced
- 1:10:56Djokovic had some time. Once they kind of went full
- 1:11:00full, Acid Rutgers was pinning, their ears back, Jacoby was
- 1:11:04getting crushed. All right, so obviously issues
- 1:11:09there and obviously they obviously had a changeup in
- 1:11:12scheme this year because I can remember Frank cignetti left
- 1:11:19them. Went over to pit and now you
- 1:11:22know they're looking at John McNulty who John McNulty's.
- 1:11:26Last stop was a tight end Coach over at Notre Dame.
- 1:11:31So what are you seeing? Does it does it make sense that
- 1:11:34he has a he was a tight end Coach faded from what you've
- 1:11:37seen. Yeah they run multiple lot of 11
- 1:11:41and 12 Personnel, pretty heavy 12 to start the game.
- 1:11:44It went more 11 as as things went on about a 60/40, pastor
- 1:11:50run is what they would like to be at obviously Rutgers kind of
- 1:11:54took them out of their game plan by the middle of the second
- 1:11:58quarter in that game and it was Very much a one-dimensional
- 1:12:03offense, which if we can do that, I think that's probably
- 1:12:07our best case essentially make them one-dimensional.
- 1:12:09And make sure say flowers, doesn't beat us with one play.
- 1:12:14But, yeah, the offensive line is definitely their weakness, and
- 1:12:16it's gonna hinder the heights that they could potentially
- 1:12:20reach because they're not going to be effective enough
- 1:12:23consistently in the Run game, and that's going to mean that
- 1:12:26your code is going to be dropping back. 35 + x, a game,
- 1:12:29trying to win it with His arm and hopefully get to getting
- 1:12:32enough touches. Buys a flowers where they can
- 1:12:34make something happen. All right.
- 1:12:36Let me ask this concerning, especially at offensive line.
- 1:12:39If I front seven, comes out and plays the way they did against
- 1:12:42odu's at good or do. We need to be at a higher level?
- 1:12:46I think we need to be at slightly higher level.
- 1:12:47When I'll say that, we need to finish plays better.
- 1:12:51We talked about it earlier, whether it's a tackle for loss,
- 1:12:54whether it's a sack, we need to get home and we need to make
- 1:12:57sure when we get home that we finished the tackle.
- 1:13:00Alright? Good deal.
- 1:13:01So that's Know The Enemy, both offensive and defensive, take a
- 1:13:05look, some players in some of their schemes.
- 1:13:07Let's flip it over to the Hokey keys.
- 1:13:10Told Brian this morning, we talked or this afternoon, we
- 1:13:13talk Brian have to change much up from last week what we were
- 1:13:16discussing, but it's written a little bit differently this
- 1:13:20time. So, obviously, the one I had up
- 1:13:23last week was turnovers and we've already talked about it a
- 1:13:27few times tonight. Obviously, we were negative 3 in
- 1:13:30that department, then the turnovers led to roughly 17
- 1:13:35points of offense for or production for ODU.
- 1:13:41Again, we talked about the locations, we've talked about
- 1:13:44where they were, but when you're negative 3, you should never
- 1:13:48expect to win a game. A, yeah, I mean, it puts you
- 1:13:52behind the eight ball and you couple that with, you know,
- 1:13:55something we're going to talk about later and it's just it's
- 1:13:58so hard to overcome no matter the level of competition that
- 1:14:01you're playing. But I mean turnovers is
- 1:14:05something that we're going to have to limit, you know, we
- 1:14:08can't have we specially To have them on special teams, that
- 1:14:12should be you know you snap it and kick it if you miss it
- 1:14:16whatever but we shouldn't be giving the ball over.
- 1:14:19We shouldn't be giving up points on special teams, we should
- 1:14:23never see that. So absolutely, that's number
- 1:14:25one. Number two, You know, we talked
- 1:14:29about Grant Wells, we talked about making some smart throws
- 1:14:32in the decisions. So yeah, two of them were
- 1:14:36grossly, Bad Decisions by Grant Wells, specifically by Grant
- 1:14:41Wells. You know, if he if he cuts down
- 1:14:45on that, you know, I'll take the ones where there's a
- 1:14:47miscommunication. I'll take the ones when you're
- 1:14:50just trying to make a play. Yeah I can't take ones where you
- 1:14:55see Pressman and you still throwing out.
- 1:14:58On the inside shoulder, I can't take the ones where, you know,
- 1:15:01we need 15 yards for a first down and you're throwing a
- 1:15:053-yard. Check down to a guy with the
- 1:15:07linebacker on his back. Cut those down, cut those out.
- 1:15:13We can live to find another town.
- 1:15:15Yeah, so for the Hokies it's clean up now.
- 1:15:18I will say this BC is not exactly clean.
- 1:15:24I mean, they had three turnovers versus Rutgers.
- 1:15:27The two picks 50 kopecks in another fumble.
- 1:15:29And this is the team even with three turnovers had a lead under
- 1:15:34three minutes to go. Now, obviously, when Rutgers was
- 1:15:37without their starting quarterback and without their
- 1:15:39primary weapon in their tight end.
- 1:15:42So they were missing a few things but still a team that
- 1:15:45turned the ball over a lot, including they had 14 points off
- 1:15:49turnovers, including one that is literally at the Yeah for
- 1:15:54Rutgers. So I see that if we can if we
- 1:15:57can it's one of those like who cleans up their turnover act
- 1:16:00faster the Hokies or Boston College could win this game.
- 1:16:06And I know we've been talking about it all night, the other
- 1:16:09Keys Battle these. We just don't expect to be
- 1:16:12perfect. But if penalties, if we don't
- 1:16:17clean up penalties by 45 yards, I don't think there's any way we
- 1:16:21can win this game. Well, if you look at just the
- 1:16:23procedural penalties alone, that was about 50 yards against ODU.
- 1:16:30So if we clean up, just the procedural stuff, which is the
- 1:16:32easiest thing to clean up, you know, you're kind of hitting
- 1:16:35that Benchmark out, the gate. If you do that, and cut the
- 1:16:37turnovers at least in have, at least down to one or two, then
- 1:16:43there's a chance. You can make some some magic
- 1:16:46happen there. You know, you said it and we've
- 1:16:49kind of talked about it ODU, you know, we we didn't play well.
- 1:16:55You know, when you look at what beat we, when we look at what BC
- 1:16:59did they didn't play well against Rutgers and you said it
- 1:17:02all unisa. Yeah, go for it.
- 1:17:04You say would be seated first well BC shit, the bed against
- 1:17:08Rutgers. We let a cow shit in our bed and
- 1:17:11then we decided to jump in it, we as just wasn't one.
- 1:17:14I threw up. Ours was a bunch of screw-ups.
- 1:17:18And literally, not only do we let it happen.
- 1:17:22We just continue to wallow in it over and over again.
- 1:17:25That was the issue. It wasn't necessarily mistakes
- 1:17:28or me, it's football. Mistakes are going to be made.
- 1:17:30It's like they were happening over and over and over and I
- 1:17:34know Prime mentioned it in the one thing about while giving big
- 1:17:40shout-out price said it the first minute.
- 1:17:43And this is where I think the difference is first minute of
- 1:17:46his pressure after the game. The players were pressing.
- 1:17:51The players were pressing. I have to do a better job of not
- 1:17:57making them press within the first minute.
- 1:17:59He put the accountability and I think for a lot of people for
- 1:18:04the last five years, that wasn't the case.
- 1:18:07What was it always? Brian.
- 1:18:08It's always a t word, execution, always execution in Brian.
- 1:18:13Eventually got to the point where he said the motherfucker,
- 1:18:17you're the one coaching them you need.
- 1:18:19Teach them to execute better and you need to say that you need to
- 1:18:22teach them to execute better. Yeah.
- 1:18:24If some at some point it all comes back to you either, either
- 1:18:28you're not preparing them, you're not coaching them.
- 1:18:30Well, enough to be prepared or your recruiting the wrong type
- 1:18:33of players you need for them to be prepared.
- 1:18:35So it's at some point, it's coming back to you.
- 1:18:39You know, we can make excuses for a season here or season
- 1:18:43their of, okay? We just don't have the right,
- 1:18:45right guys, or not getting it done.
- 1:18:48When you start seeing a Pattern. That's what he's that's when
- 1:18:51it's got to go. So that that's that's the
- 1:18:53difference in. You know, I'm glad that we have
- 1:18:57some accountability but at some point obviously on this regime
- 1:19:02accountability is not going to get you where you want to be
- 1:19:05either eventually you got to fix those things.
- 1:19:07Go out there and get it done and get it done.
- 1:19:10All right, so speaking of getting it done, I think the
- 1:19:14third key and this is one that was actually fun to look at.
- 1:19:17And think about was the rushing offense.
- 1:19:20We had even with a poorly block gang, or a slightly
- 1:19:24above-average Block game on the running versus that BC run
- 1:19:27defense. We've already mentioned it.
- 1:19:29Don't let the stats fool you when there is a 54-yard scoop
- 1:19:33and score or by remember this, they take it off of the rushing
- 1:19:37totals. Realistically.
- 1:19:39The Hokies went over 200 yard realistically, 5.3 carry.
- 1:19:44I'm looking at the Rutgers game. You saw it?
- 1:19:46Brian! I'm looking at the data Rutgers
- 1:19:48went 40 to 42 12. All three of their touchdowns
- 1:19:51came on the ground. Give me a reason.
- 1:19:56Why is that brown? Why did Rutgers who?
- 1:20:00It wasn't the most talented team?
- 1:20:02Basically get five carry on BC. They're a little soft in the
- 1:20:07middle. I think we have some
- 1:20:09opportunities between the tackles to hurt them.
- 1:20:14They do have some good players out on the edge in The Spill
- 1:20:16area and they're going to try to Spill the rush out to those
- 1:20:20areas and let those guys clean up.
- 1:20:22But they are a little softer in the middle and I think that's
- 1:20:24where we Taking advantage, you know, you got a safety playing
- 1:20:27linebacker, still learning to get off blocks.
- 1:20:30I think, I think that's where we can kind of make some hay, and
- 1:20:33if they don't clean it up, I think that's our opportunity.
- 1:20:36Yeah. And this isn't just like a
- 1:20:38one-time thing because BC was not good last year.
- 1:20:41They were 90 s, it like 178 a game.
- 1:20:44So this is clearly an ongoing issue for halfling, his coaching
- 1:20:48staff with the potential to scheme change, you know, even
- 1:20:52though it's a four to five, something more traditional car,
- 1:20:54College not playing at the college way, which walk-in
- 1:20:58safeties up to the line filling gaps.
- 1:21:00You're going to without having the correct defensive Personnel,
- 1:21:03you're going to give up some yard.
- 1:21:05So, you know, it'll be really interesting to see.
- 1:21:10You know what team is able to convey turn it all around and
- 1:21:15you know, that's where we land here at our game predictions.
- 1:21:18And you know is you know, you know, three weeks ago I'm
- 1:21:23sitting here. We're saying Out in three weeks
- 1:21:25and four of five and seven in. Right now, some of the games I
- 1:21:31foresaw as potential wins, I'm recalculating and I can't do it
- 1:21:36until I see change. So unfortunately for me I've got
- 1:21:39to take BC and I got to take them and it's going to be a
- 1:21:43dogfight. I got to go 2824 you know
- 1:21:47Brian's heading up to Blacksburg on Saturday I wish I could I've
- 1:21:50got some things going on but what do?
- 1:21:54You think Brian. Are you going to be driving back
- 1:21:56down 81 Saturday night happier? It might be a long drive back
- 1:22:03and I'm kind of right there with you and I'm actually with you in
- 1:22:05a little bit more. Dramatic fashion I've got us
- 1:22:09coming up one point short 28 27 BC.
- 1:22:15I need to see it. I need to see us in prove I need
- 1:22:18to see with Improvement. Does that mean that the offense
- 1:22:22looks a little better more cohesive in terms of putting
- 1:22:25points on the board? And until I see that it's her
- 1:22:28too. Trust that we're going to see
- 1:22:32significant difference. I think there's going to be
- 1:22:34Improvement, don't don't get me wrong.
- 1:22:36I think we're going to see a good amount of improvement week
- 1:22:38one to week two. I don't think we're going to be
- 1:22:40in that I don't I don't think we're going to be plus 10 in
- 1:22:44penalties. I don't think we're going to be
- 1:22:47at five turnovers but I don't know if we're going to do enough
- 1:22:49cleaning up. Relative to what BC does to get
- 1:22:53it done. All right, some prawns and 2827.
- 1:22:58I'm in 2824 both going BC. Hope we're sitting here.
- 1:23:02Seven days from now saying we're completely wrong.
- 1:23:06It went wrong. Last we got, I'd love to be
- 1:23:08wrong again this week. Love it, love it.
- 1:23:10All right, let's go real quick. Do big screeners brine.
- 1:23:15I'll leave you with this one as well.
- 1:23:16I am hoping after the Hokies make me, prove me wrong.
- 1:23:21Long. I'm gonna probably be watching
- 1:23:23very closely the BYU Baylor game, obviously, future Big 12
- 1:23:28that's going to be out at BYU. Great atmosphere out there.
- 1:23:31I expected to be a brawl, Baylor is laying three in are getting
- 1:23:37three and a half points on the road.
- 1:23:40I think this game is going to be tight anyway, so when the team I
- 1:23:44shade and feel a little bit better about getting points.
- 1:23:47I want to take Baylor and three and a half.
- 1:23:49Both teams are ranked burned, by the way.
- 1:23:51Just So you want to know, I know you will be in Blacksburg and
- 1:23:57what game are you going to be trying to check out at
- 1:23:58Sharkey's, PK's tots wherever you may Land?
- 1:24:02Once you're down in the Homeland.
- 1:24:04Yeah, I'm going to actually take a look at that Tennessee pit
- 1:24:06game. I think there's some interest
- 1:24:08there on both sides. We obviously got, you know,
- 1:24:10Hendon quarterbacking the The Tennessee Squad there while we
- 1:24:15got pit is a game that we're going to look towards later in
- 1:24:19the year couple couple 757 products on that pit team.
- 1:24:25So you know you got you got some interest there as well.
- 1:24:27So when I look at that, I feel like this is based on what I saw
- 1:24:33week. One, this is Tennessee right
- 1:24:36now. They've got a seven-point.
- 1:24:40I'm going to take, I'm going to lay the seven.
- 1:24:42I'm taking Tennessee. All right, he is taking to the
- 1:24:46su-27 and I'd be with you on that just because of what we saw
- 1:24:51from pits defense and and if you can say lots of first game of
- 1:24:56the season like, yeah. But they had a game in front of
- 1:24:59them, they needed to get up and essentially their offense and
- 1:25:03partially West Virginia, save them, it'll be interesting to
- 1:25:06see that game. All right?
- 1:25:07Brian one more thing, it's not on the rundown but I got to let
- 1:25:10your aunt. Preseason rankings.
- 1:25:16Welcome. It's the most ludicrous thing
- 1:25:19ever invented. Especially in a situation where
- 1:25:24all the future rankings are judged against the original
- 1:25:27rankings. And that's my biggest problem,
- 1:25:30is that, you know, I saw, I forget who it was but, you know,
- 1:25:34I retweeted it. Someone was on the timeline.
- 1:25:37Yeah, we got, we got it, we got a blue check on the timeline,
- 1:25:40trying to talk against a 12 team playoff because Oregon got their
- 1:25:44shit kicked in. Well, they also lost their head
- 1:25:48coach last year, and now, we're figuring out.
- 1:25:49Okay? This Oregon team is an 11,
- 1:25:51ranked team. As it currently stands, we
- 1:25:54learned that they're not in 11th ranked team.
- 1:25:56We didn't learn that. Oh, and levantine got the shit
- 1:25:59kicked in. So in 11, ranked at the end of
- 1:26:01the season is going to be the same fucking thing.
- 1:26:03No, it's not going to be the same thing because we will have
- 1:26:08played games at that point and whoever that 11 seed is, will
- 1:26:12have a more deserving reason to be a fucking Concede then,
- 1:26:16Oregon. This is so much fun every year
- 1:26:21to get you to go on the preseason rankings rant, because
- 1:26:24there's always somebody doing something talking about how
- 1:26:28especially late in the year you really want to get Brian.
- 1:26:31Come back. If Joy, if organs like 4 and 8
- 1:26:34and somebody looking well, you know, George is being a few top
- 1:26:3710 teams, top 15 teams, but I'll be like, wasn't weak one.
- 1:26:42But was it was it even in September?
- 1:26:47And you've always said, rankings should be there, you know, it's
- 1:26:52one reason. I don't mind.
- 1:26:53Power rankings, I have a problem with official top 25 rankings.
- 1:26:58Yeah, the official PSP and do their power rankings.
- 1:27:01Let whoever wants to do Power Rankings based on, you know,
- 1:27:04preseason early-season don't make it an official top 25
- 1:27:09because again it throws off the calculations the whole rest of
- 1:27:15the season Brian. Would be okay if you went after
- 1:27:18three or four games, at least you have a body of work done,
- 1:27:21right? Yes, 3 and 0 to 3, you know, and
- 1:27:24you beat three really crappy teams.
- 1:27:26Your 3 + 0 + UV. Two.
- 1:27:28Really good teams and one above average team, your 3 and L is
- 1:27:33not the same as their three, you know.
- 1:27:35Give me rankings the first Monday of October.
- 1:27:38There you go. That's why.
- 1:27:40That's one reason. You probably one thing you've
- 1:27:43always liked about the playoff is they go deep into the sea.
- 1:27:46even before they turn them off, they go the seven weeks in seven
- 1:27:52seven weeks in and at least then, you know, the problem with
- 1:27:56the committee is that when it all comes down to it, They're
- 1:28:01going to put in a blue blood. That brings in the most money
- 1:28:04over another tea and it most of the time, most of the time.
- 1:28:09But in terms of how we get there, at least the the process
- 1:28:14is better than the preseason shit.
- 1:28:17Well, my comment on preseason rankings, they're about as good
- 1:28:20as an ejector seat and helicopter.
- 1:28:22Think about that one, as you get ready to go to bed tonight.
- 1:28:26Y'all Brian, anything breaking. I'm not seeing anything but
- 1:28:30nothing breaking the depth chart came out.
- 1:28:35You're feeling a lot better seeing kilise feeling better
- 1:28:38about the wide receiver room. Yeah we got a couple more young
- 1:28:43young receivers making that that depth chart.
- 1:28:46We got Jalen Jones. Thankfully seems to be back up
- 1:28:50to speed where they're putting them on the depth chart.
- 1:28:52I saw Christian moss on there as well.
- 1:28:55Those two are going to be big in terms of death at the receiver
- 1:28:58position. We also saw Caleb on there,
- 1:29:00whether you throw it on as a courtesy, or whether he's going
- 1:29:03to be good to go for the game. Obviously, it's probably too
- 1:29:06early to tell there, but hopefully he's good to go
- 1:29:08against BC. And then, we also saw obviously,
- 1:29:12you know, Brianna Marie back in there.
- 1:29:15So, coming off the suspension and Tisdale we found out more
- 1:29:21about that. Yeah, apparently eligibility
- 1:29:23situation. So, he's weird.
- 1:29:26Yeah. I don't think we're going to see
- 1:29:27him this week. He's apparently week to week as
- 1:29:30they resolve that eligibility issue but at least you know, we
- 1:29:34know what it is and now we know it's he's not in the doghouse
- 1:29:38for. Nope.
- 1:29:39Anything off the field. He's not his play.
- 1:29:44He hasn't fallen off to a point where he can't help us.
- 1:29:48So that those those are two things that are.
- 1:29:50I think positives to take away from that.
- 1:29:55Very nice. Alright, so now that we got the
- 1:29:59couple breaking things, I wrote down here that's on me we are
