- 0:48She's a happy girl.
- 1:02There is no greater feeling for a teacher, a friend, or mentor than to see someone
- 1:08they have influenced take their teachings and incorporate them into their own life.
- 1:14Join us in this program, I Heard It Through the Grapevine, as Kim Miller of
- 1:19Woman at the Well Ministries takes us through Philemon 1.5, which says,
- 1:24Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints.
- 1:31Hello and welcome to this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries. Let us pray.
- 1:36Our kind and most gracious, dear Heavenly Father, Lord, I pray that you would
- 1:40open our hearts and our minds over the next few minutes to hear what you would have us to hear.
- 1:44I pray to Heavenly Father that you would give us the courage and the strength
- 1:48to be the lights in this world that you've called us to be.
- 1:51I pray to Heavenly Father that you would give us eyes to see those that you've
- 1:55placed in our life around about us that have shown us the way.
- 1:59That's shown us who you were. That we've been able to feel your touch and to
- 2:03hear your words in amazing ways that come to life because they have taken the
- 2:07time to tell us who you are and to show us how it is to know you in a personal way.
- 2:14I pray, Lord, that you would help each of us to take your word to heart,
- 2:19to put it in our hearts, to put it in our minds, to let it transform our lives
- 2:25in such a way that when others see us, they see you.
- 2:28Teach us to study, to understand what it is the word would have us to know,
- 2:34to incorporate it in our lives and in our daily routines.
- 2:38And Lord, help our lives to be a testimony of your grace and your mercy and your love.
- 2:44I pray, dear Heavenly Father, that when people see us, they see your scriptures
- 2:49unfolded in such a way that it would lead them to you.
- 2:53I thank you, Lord, for those you've given me who show me you,
- 2:58for those who poured their hearts into my life,
- 3:02for those who could see a vision of a life lived for you and could translate
- 3:08that vision in something I could see,
- 3:11something I could follow, that I might be a child of the Most High God and reap
- 3:17the blessings and the benefits of living a life filled with your presence.
- 3:23In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
- 3:27It says, hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus
- 3:32and toward all the saints.
- 3:35When someone hears your name, what comes to their mind?
- 3:42When you walk into a room, what happens to the mood?
- 3:46Are you the person who can walk into a room and every eye turned back around,
- 3:51because they want to hear what you have to say?
- 3:54Because they remember the last time that you were there, you had something encouraging to say.
- 4:00They remembered the last time that you were there and they were having a problem,
- 4:05and they were struggling and they were in trouble, that you didn't have any
- 4:08words of your own to say, but you could open up your little Bible that you kept
- 4:13with you and you could read some word out of the Holy Scriptures,
- 4:19that would lighten their hearts and lift their burden.
- 4:23And then you could just kneel down beside them and tell them that you don't
- 4:27have any idea what you could possibly
- 4:30say or do to lighten the situation they're in. But you know who can.
- 4:36And you know him so well that you'd
- 4:40like to take this opportunity to go
- 4:43to his throne as his child
- 4:46and request his presence in the situation to ask him to speak his heart to us
- 4:56that we might know that he is there and we might understand the decisions that we are to make.
- 5:04Are you that person who walking through Walmart Start, see somebody that you
- 5:10know you need to pray with, and you'll just stop.
- 5:15Not to be seen, not like a Pharisee, but quietly get in a corner and begin to
- 5:23intercede on behalf of that person.
- 5:26We all know people who have shown us Jesus.
- 5:31I pray that you go to a good Bible-believing church and that you have an opportunity
- 5:36to be fed by the Word of God,
- 5:38by your pastor and that they are able
- 5:41to rightly divide the word of
- 5:44truth in a way that just keeps you fed all week as you
- 5:47study on your own but you hear the
- 5:50word of God at church and that
- 5:53person's pouring out their week of study into you and I pray that when you see
- 6:00that person you're grateful for the time in service that they spend that they
- 6:06might be able to stand in front of you on Sundays and Wednesdays to tell you
- 6:10something that the Lord has told them.
- 6:12But I also hope you have some memories like I have, where you can walk in a room.
- 6:20And you can hear a faint little voice calling out to the Lord.
- 6:25It's faint because her voice was kind of soft anyway.
- 6:30But she had been praying for God only knows how long. So her voice was tired.
- 6:36But her faith wasn't.
- 6:39And call out the names and need of those around her.
- 6:45When I see this verse hearing of thy love and faith which thou hast toward the
- 6:50Lord Jesus and toward all saints,
- 6:54I am reminded of one of the most precious memories I have in one of the most
- 7:00difficult times of my life we had taken my mom to the hospital and it was clear
- 7:06that we were in the very last stages.
- 7:09It was also pretty clear that she wasn't going to be talking to us much more,
- 7:14She was in the emergency room and people were scurrying around and they were
- 7:17trying desperately to figure out how to relieve some of her pain and she was hurting.
- 7:24You know, in the hospital emergency rooms, they have those curtains that separate
- 7:29the beds, the little rooms.
- 7:31I was there with my mom and Erica was there and some family and they brought
- 7:37in a person in the little section beside of us on the other side of that curtain.
- 7:43And that woman began to cry out an enormous amount of pain. And she was clearly hurting.
- 7:50The last words I heard my mother say was a prayer for a woman's face she never
- 7:59saw, a name she never knew, but a need she heard.
- 8:04And she prayed with great earnest that God would touch that woman.
- 8:13I never heard my mother pray that day for herself.
- 8:17I only heard her pray for her family and that woman.
- 8:23When I see the words, hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward
- 8:29the Lord Jesus and toward all saints, that's the picture I see.
- 8:36That's what we need to be. We need to be the person that when they hear our
- 8:43name, it brings peace to their hearts.
- 8:47Not because we are great, but because we know the one who is.
- 8:53It's never about what you know. It's about who you know when it's Jesus.
- 8:59I have been able to do things that I had no earthly knowledge of how to do.
- 9:06But in the time that he called and in the moment that he required,
- 9:12I was given exactly what I needed to do the job he called me to do.
- 9:19But it requires a loving faith.
- 9:24And you better not wait till the moment he calls you to decide to get that faith.
- 9:29And to get that knowledge of the scriptures.
- 9:32And to have that relationship.
- 9:35You need to walk and talk with him. Just as the songwriter says,
- 9:41I come to the garden alone.
- 9:44It's great to pray with your friends. It's great to pray with your family,
- 9:49and I encourage all of you to pray in front of your children.
- 9:51Let them have that memory I have of a praying mother and father.
- 9:56Let them have that memory that when something is not right, it's the first place
- 10:01you go, the second place you go, and the last place you go.
- 10:05Let them have that memory of hearing you pray so that they know exactly what
- 10:11to do in those circumstances, and they know exactly how to get a hold of the Lord Jesus.
- 10:18I implore you to have a relationship with him that is so real that he really is your best friend.
- 10:26He says there's not a friend that will stick closer than him.
- 10:29And he says he stands at your door and he knocks.
- 10:32And he says that you can come boldly to his throne. And he asks you to pray without ceasing.
- 10:38You get it? From Genesis, the revelations, he's begging you to let him be everything
- 10:44for you and in you and with you.
- 10:47That's what he wants that's what
- 10:50he's asking for and that's what he provides.
- 10:53You've got to get understanding that
- 10:57his relationship with you is real and it doesn't happen just on sundays and
- 11:02wednesdays or in the house of god those are great places but it happens wherever
- 11:08you are in your car in your bedroom in your home in your kitchen in your yard
- 11:12at the pool anywhere that you might be on the tennis courts,
- 11:15at the football field, at the gas station, at the bank.
- 11:19He is there with you, and he's talking to you if you'll just listen.
- 11:25It is my prayer that when you hear the scripture,
- 11:29hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus and toward all saints,
- 11:34that somebody in this world sees your face because you have made a difference
- 11:41in what they understand to be a true relationship with Jesus Christ.
