- 0:01This time of year here in Ohio,
- 0:03it can be kind of cold.
- 0:05And so we need to get ready for even colder weather coming up soon.
- 0:10So,
- 0:10a question come into the radio program and I've asked my favorite heating expert,
- 0:16Nathan Shafer to join me and answer a question for me.
- 0:19Hey,
- 0:19Nathan.
- 0:20Hey,
- 0:20Jim,
- 0:21happy to be here.
- 0:22Hey,
- 0:22it is great to have you here.
- 0:24A question's coming.
- 0:25Now,
- 0:25this is kind of a basic question and you may not think so because you probably hear this all the time.
- 0:30The question is,
- 0:30is what should I do if my furnace stops working?
- 0:34And I'm assuming that they've set the thermostat to a certain temperature and it's just not cranking up.
- 0:41Absolutely.
- 0:41Yeah.
- 0:41I mean,
- 0:42uh it's at that time of year,
- 0:44right?
- 0:44So that's,
- 0:44that's a common time of year for that to be happening.
- 0:46And we're going to go into the,
- 0:48to the uh dead of winter.
- 0:49And so even more likely to have to get that cold night,
- 0:51but it seems like a simple question.
- 0:53Uh It is a very great question.
- 0:55So,
- 0:55uh number one contact shape for heating,
- 0:57cooling,
- 0:58uh there's many ways you can do that.
- 1:00Um,
- 1:00you could simply give us a call.
- 1:02We have,
- 1:02uh,
- 1:02our team is on call 24 7.
- 1:04So you always get a live person.
- 1:06Uh,
- 1:06right here at our,
- 1:08at our team here at our facility,
- 1:10um,
- 1:10you can book an appointment on our website and so they could go there and,
- 1:14and simply book an appointment.
- 1:16Um,
- 1:16they can text us,
- 1:18they can email us,
- 1:19uh,
- 1:19lots of different ways that they can contact us.
- 1:22But number one,
- 1:23if that furnace is not working,
- 1:24uh,
- 1:25we could try a couple of things first to make sure that,
- 1:27uh,
- 1:27hey,
- 1:27this sys system does have power,
- 1:29you know,
- 1:29something to get tripped to breaker or something like that.
- 1:32Uh,
- 1:32make sure the badge and the thermostat are good but those few,
- 1:35couple of mi minor things check out.
- 1:37Great.
- 1:37You know,
- 1:37I've replaced my air filter.
- 1:39Hey,
- 1:40step,
- 1:40uh,
- 1:41step one or two,
- 1:42I guess,
- 1:42depending on,
- 1:43uh,
- 1:43your level of technical,
- 1:44there is,
- 1:45uh,
- 1:45give our team a call and we'll get you taken care of.
- 1:48Yeah,
- 1:49don't mess around with this stuff yourself.
- 1:51We talk about this and I'll tell you one of the most dangerous things about heating a home are the fumes.
- 2:01It's carbon monoxide.
- 2:03Ok.
- 2:03We don't have that problem with air conditioning.
- 2:04Little less dangerous,
- 2:06but honestly,
- 2:07and I don't mean to scare people,
- 2:09but that's the biggest thing you have to worry about and you want to have an expert in your home who can make sure it's vented properly.
- 2:16Absolutely.
- 2:16You know,
- 2:16it doesn't matter,
- 2:17you know,
- 2:18uh,
- 2:18the type of system that you have,
- 2:20there's multiple different types of systems and combinations of systems that hook together.
- 2:23And so in reality,
- 2:24they're all,
- 2:25you know,
- 2:26very dangerous.
- 2:27And so you've got uh exhaust,
- 2:29like you mentioned,
- 2:30your carbon dioxide things.
- 2:31You've got electric,
- 2:32you've got uh,
- 2:33gas,
- 2:34you've got water,
- 2:35uh,
- 2:35you know,
- 2:36you got a combination of one or,
- 2:38or multiples of these all combined together in that heating system in the home.
- 2:42And uh it can be a catastrophe waiting to happen if uh if things aren't done correctly.
- 2:47And so something that uh maybe oftentimes a lot of people don't think about,
- 2:51but we want to take very,
- 2:51very seriously and make sure we had a train nice and professional and they're taking care of matters for you.
- 2:56Yeah,
- 2:56I think when people hear about heating and air conditioning,
- 2:58you think,
- 2:59well,
- 2:59I can go to the big box store and I can buy a portable heater,
- 3:02I can buy a window air conditioner.
- 3:03So it's not that dangerous.
- 3:06I want you to think of these systems as your,
- 3:09in your home,
- 3:10as mechanicals and in,
- 3:11in the industry,
- 3:13that's what is often referred to.
- 3:15Ok.
- 3:16The mechanical systems of the home,
- 3:18like a big power plant would have mechanical systems.
- 3:21Your house is,
- 3:22is a plant itself and you need to treat it as such.
- 3:26Absolutely,
- 3:27100%.
- 3:28It's definitely not something to be taken lightly uh at all.
- 3:31Yeah,
- 3:33Nathan,
