- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, Sean, as you know, we're very discriminating customers here
- 0:02Speaker 1: at NewsRadio 1110K.
- 0:04Speaker 2: We expect perfection.
- 0:07Speaker 1: But Dana Holgerson had to be pretty pleased with the
- 0:09Speaker 1: way the offense played the other day. Yeah, Indiana made
- 0:12Speaker 1: some great adjustments in the second half. They have the
- 0:14Speaker 1: best coaching staff. But, boy, you have 80-some snaps. You
- 0:19Speaker 1: hit 55% on third down. That was a really impressive
- 0:24Speaker 1: offensive game against a good defense, I thought.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, there's just three or four moments Dan
- 0:29Speaker 3: talked about he wanted back. I mean, early in the game,
- 0:32Speaker 3: I think when they kicked the first field goal to
- 0:34Speaker 3: make it 3-0, their first down play on the 10
- 0:38Speaker 3: first and goal, he called a base run play, and
- 0:41Speaker 3: they got nothing on it. And they're in second and 10.
- 0:43Speaker 3: He's like, man, I'd love to have that back. You know,
- 0:46Speaker 3: some of the sacks that happened, you know, only one
- 0:50Speaker 3: was on the O-line, but just Calandra getting the ball
- 0:53Speaker 3: out quicker because the sacks were– in terms of drive
- 0:56Speaker 3: killers and point killers, but the way they held the ball,
- 1:00Speaker 3: the way they moved the ball. I mean, it was
- 1:02Speaker 3: really masterful at times, the time of possession, the way
- 1:05Speaker 3: they managed the wind, the way they played the wind.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I mean, they had the win for the fourth quarter
- 1:10Speaker 3: with a 17-6 lead. It was teed up to perfection.
- 1:15Speaker 3: They just weren't able to finish it off.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Okay, so this week you got Oregon.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Now, Dante Moore, their outstanding quarterback, Heisman Trophy candidate, the
- 1:22Speaker 1: guy is projected as the top five overall pick in
- 1:25Speaker 1: the NFL draft next spring, was at practice yesterday apparently
- 1:29Speaker 1: in pads. What does that say to you?
- 1:31Speaker 3: I still would be disappointed. surprised if he plays. I
- 1:38Speaker 3: don't think he did anything in practice is my understanding.
- 1:41Speaker 3: So we'll see where that all plays out in the end.
- 1:45Speaker 3: But it just, just the reports we've heard from folks
- 1:48Speaker 3: in Eugene, it would be surprising if he came back
- 1:51Speaker 3: and played. I mean, a lot of people think he
- 1:52Speaker 3: could be done for the season because another concussion, something
- 1:56Speaker 3: else could really just sideline everything for Dante Moore and
- 2:00Speaker 3: He was a shoo-in first-round draft pick at this point,
- 2:03Speaker 3: and he had not been playing well, and then he
- 2:06Speaker 3: gets the injury. So it is something to watch. So
- 2:10Speaker 3: we'll see where it goes as the week moves on.
- 2:12Speaker 2: A lot of people are worried about, well, worried.
- 2:14Speaker 1: A lot of people are surprised at how badly Oregon
- 2:18Speaker 1: has executed on offense. Now, remember, they lost their offensive coordinator,
- 2:21Speaker 1: Will Stein, who went to be head coach at Kentucky.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And the guy they have replacing him has not exactly
- 2:27Speaker 1: won over the fans in Eugene.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Yeah, so their previous two offensive coordinators were Kenny Dillingham,
- 2:35Speaker 3: who's now the head coach at Arizona State, and then
- 2:37Speaker 3: Will Stein, the Kentucky head coach. They've had some really
- 2:39Speaker 3: good ones. And Dan Lanning has continued to promote from within.
- 2:43Speaker 3: And this one hasn't worked out as well. A lot
- 2:48Speaker 3: of it's up front. Their offensive line has been kind
- 2:50Speaker 3: of the real weak spot for them. They can't run
- 2:53Speaker 3: the ball. Now, they have elite receivers and playmakers, but
- 2:58Speaker 3: they have not been able to do much. The strength
- 3:01Speaker 3: of this Oregon team is their defense. I mean, they
- 3:05Speaker 3: are loaded on the D-line at corner. I mean, they
- 3:09Speaker 3: have Coy Parrish, former Minnesota Gopher, who was their best player.
- 3:12Speaker 3: They are loaded across the board on this defense, and
- 3:16Speaker 3: that will keep them in a lot of games. Their
- 3:19Speaker 3: offensive line, though, has kind of been, to me, the
- 3:21Speaker 3: real problem, along with, obviously, quarterback.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yeah, they did have a lot of guys drafted.
- 3:26Speaker 1: But it's Oregon, and every year they're in the top
- 3:28Speaker 1: five in the recruiting rankings, and they have unlimited money
- 3:31Speaker 1: to go get transfers. It may be a situation where
- 3:33Speaker 1: their guys are just not gelling. You bring in a
- 3:36Speaker 1: bunch of people and they don't necessarily work well together,
- 3:38Speaker 1: it shows.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Yeah, offensive line is one of those ones where you
- 3:42Speaker 3: want to build it in-house as much as possible and
- 3:45Speaker 3: then plug in transfers here and there. It is really
- 3:48Speaker 3: tough to just bring in transfer alignment every year and
- 3:52Speaker 3: expect it to be kind of a connected unit situation.
- 3:55Speaker 3: I'm not saying it can't happen, but it's not an ideal,
- 3:58Speaker 3: sustainable way to do it year in and year out.
- 4:01Speaker 1: All right, that's Sean Callahan, KFB Husker Info Strongman. With
- 4:04Speaker 1: the injury report coming out tonight, that'll be front and
- 4:06Speaker 1: center on the Husker Buzz report tomorrow morning. And remember,
- 4:10Speaker 1: the Husker online pregame show is at 6 o'clock Friday
- 4:13Speaker 1: night
- 4:13Speaker 2: On 1110 KFAB.
