- 0:52Speaker 3: on Let's Talk.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Hello, ladies and gentlemen.
- 0:55Speaker 1: This is Carl Lee with Let's Talk, and I have
- 0:58Speaker 1: my two hosts my cot in the building, Lisadi Hello,
- 1:02Speaker 1: and Hollis Lewis Hello. Hello, and Hollis, I think you're
- 1:08Speaker 1: gonna open this up.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10Speaker 1: So I was at West Virginia State's EARL Lloyd Classic
- 1:13Speaker 1: basketball tournament this weekend and I ran into a fan,
- 1:17Speaker 1: you know, oftentimes when you were walking around and you know,
- 1:20Speaker 1: just maticulating through life. I'm sure you meet people who
- 1:22Speaker 1: were listen to the show, but this gentleman was very special.
- 1:26Speaker 1: So a shout out to you will. He's going through
- 1:28Speaker 1: some things so and he has to travel pretty frequently,
- 1:32Speaker 1: and he said a big part of passing the time
- 1:35Speaker 1: is he's going through what he's going through is listening
- 1:38Speaker 1: to the show. So it was something to touch my heart.
- 1:39Speaker 1: And hopefully we'll we're gonna have you on one day,
- 1:42Speaker 1: so you know, you continue to be safe, get well
- 1:44Speaker 1: and you know, and.
- 1:46Speaker 2: We have and we totally totally totally appreciate it. That's
- 1:49Speaker 2: that's always good stuff, though, doesn't.
- 1:51Speaker 4: It always like just I don't know about you guys,
- 1:53Speaker 4: but it just kind of like you're almost in shock
- 1:55Speaker 4: and awe when somebody says, oh, yeah, you're on that
- 1:58Speaker 4: you're on that podcast with Let's Talk with you know,
- 2:01Speaker 4: Carl Lee and and you're just like wow, you know,
- 2:04Speaker 4: because sometimes we forget when we're in the studio just
- 2:06Speaker 4: us and poor you know, mad in there trying to
- 2:09Speaker 4: control us. But you forget that people actually are out
- 2:13Speaker 4: there listening and they appreciate, you know, what we do
- 2:15Speaker 4: and shout out to you guys for doing that, for listening.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Well and to that point, it is an amazing kind
- 2:25Speaker 1: of a thing like and and and for you too,
- 2:28Speaker 1: both of you all in your at least in your
- 2:31Speaker 1: past uh line of work, hollerus in your current uh work.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Like to me, when I see that, I don't think
- 2:41Speaker 1: that you guys can actually actually appreciate or maybe even
- 2:46Speaker 1: be totally aware of the positive sides of that of
- 2:50Speaker 1: the people who look at you and think like, oh man,
- 2:53Speaker 1: she's great, he's great, they're doing all these good things,
- 2:56Speaker 1: because I don't, because I think what happens is you
- 2:59Speaker 1: spend all of you or time on working on trying
- 3:02Speaker 1: to get those positive things for people to be appreciative of,
- 3:07Speaker 1: not saying that you're doing it just so they appreciate it.
- 3:09Speaker 1: But you're so tied into working with that kind of
- 3:13Speaker 1: stuff that.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Your content, you're thinking about what we're going to discuss
- 3:18Speaker 4: and talk about it, and you forget that the audience really,
- 3:21Speaker 4: you know, there is an audience.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, You've done something, and all of a sudden,
- 3:24Speaker 1: now I'm totally appreciative of it, and you don't know me,
- 3:27Speaker 1: you know, you know, And then all of a sudden,
- 3:30Speaker 1: I happened to walk up and see you, and now
- 3:32Speaker 1: it's like, oh, and you know, and I think that's
- 3:35Speaker 1: a hard kind of thing to kind of maybe get
- 3:38Speaker 1: used to, you know, and you know, sports is built
- 3:40Speaker 1: around that kind of thing. But when you do it
- 3:43Speaker 1: to me, I think when you do it outside of sports,
- 3:45Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's huge.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I think it's right.
- 3:49Speaker 1: It's just a it's way more special, I think because
- 3:51Speaker 1: you got everybody calling your name and all of that
- 3:55Speaker 1: kind of stuff during that. But in you all's line
- 3:57Speaker 1: of work, Yeah, it's it's different. It's like you've got
- 4:01Speaker 1: to do literally do something, and you're doing something and
- 4:06Speaker 1: you got a huge group of people that are like, man,
- 4:10Speaker 1: she's great. Oh man, he's great. Yeah, And I think
- 4:14Speaker 1: that's I think that itself is cool.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a reward in itself for sure. And to
- 4:19Speaker 4: hear something like that, that's just a heartwarming story about Will,
- 4:22Speaker 4: I mean, to know what he's going through, and it
- 4:25Speaker 4: makes us feel good because we feel like we're helping
- 4:27Speaker 4: somebody get through a difficult part of the part of
- 4:30Speaker 4: their lives just by putting out some content on sports
- 4:33Speaker 4: and it helps them forget for a while, and hopefully
- 4:36Speaker 4: that's our goal really is to help everybody escape reality
- 4:39Speaker 4: for a minute.
- 4:39Speaker 1: And how many times have had somebody told you that
- 4:45Speaker 1: they're driving somewhere, Yeah, and they know that we're on,
- 4:50Speaker 1: and so they're listening to us to go drive as
- 4:53Speaker 1: they go wherever they're going, and they're driving, they they're
- 4:56Speaker 1: listening to us. And when you think about that, that's
- 4:59Speaker 1: like kind of cool, like you know, yeah, because like wow, Okay,
- 5:04Speaker 1: he knows we're on.
- 5:05Speaker 2: She knows we're on.
- 5:06Speaker 1: They're turning us on at that time to take that drive.
- 5:10Speaker 1: That's you know, shut you will shout out and all the.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Listeners who who's listeners and listen to us? All right, Well, let's.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Put some contre for them to listen to now for sure?
- 5:24Speaker 2: All right.
- 5:24Speaker 1: So I'm going to open this up with the I'm
- 5:31Speaker 1: gonna call it the Dion Sanders saga. All right, here
- 5:43Speaker 1: here is here is Here is my my take on it.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I feel really really bad about the health of Dion
- 5:54Speaker 1: and and in spite of his health, he's still trying
- 5:57Speaker 1: to to be the head coach. He's still trying to
- 5:59Speaker 1: be the dad that's that's supporting his son. Wanting the
- 6:05Speaker 1: best for his son. I think all of that is.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's important, and it's great
- 6:15Speaker 1: shador I think.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I think what he did not realize.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And most players who are great in college, and I
- 6:28Speaker 1: use that word literally great in college, they don't really
- 6:33Speaker 1: know the transition to the next level of It's one
- 6:38Speaker 1: thing being in practice and being good and thinking like, oh,
- 6:41Speaker 1: this is easy. But then when it comes to the
- 6:45Speaker 1: real games, regular season games against teams.
- 6:51Speaker 2: It ain't the same. Yeah, And and I don't know.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I think that I personally think that your door can play.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I think that what's how do we know if he
- 7:02Speaker 1: can play? Well, well, well, here's here's my here's here's
- 7:06Speaker 1: here's and I'm gonna let you have all of this.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Okay, here's what I think. I think he can play.
- 7:14Speaker 1: But playing does not necessarily mean that you're going to
- 7:17Speaker 1: be a superstar or you're even gonna be starting. You
- 7:20Speaker 1: can play, if you can play in the pros, right,
- 7:22Speaker 1: you can play. But I don't really know yet if
- 7:28Speaker 1: he's under that he understood the difference in what his
- 7:33Speaker 1: greatness whatever, however he viewed his greatness in college to
- 7:37Speaker 1: think that that's going to carry over and that's just
- 7:40Speaker 1: gonna be okay, and you're on a team that's not
- 7:43Speaker 1: very good. Now, you can talk about the lines not
- 7:46Speaker 1: doing this, d D D D D all that kind of.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Stuff, but do you are the guy well and you're
- 7:53Speaker 2: claiming to be it. I'm just what I'm saying.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I mean, I think maybe that's the thought, maybe initially,
- 8:00Speaker 1: but I think reality set in and the fact of
- 8:02Speaker 1: the matter is, I don't know if we know if
- 8:03Speaker 1: he can play because he just hasn't really had the opportunities.
- 8:07Speaker 1: From every report coming out, he hasn't got first team reps.
- 8:10Speaker 1: He's not getting a lot of practice time, and as
- 8:12Speaker 1: a quarterback, you have to build that muscle memory and
- 8:16Speaker 1: that happens in practice. And uh, just to pay the context,
- 8:19Speaker 1: he saw his first game action this week. It didn't
- 8:21Speaker 1: really go well, No, not at all. So so again
- 8:24Speaker 1: I don't you know, we don't know. I don't think
- 8:27Speaker 1: any I think anybody says he can't or he can't
- 8:29Speaker 1: you don't know.
- 8:30Speaker 4: I think the circumstance that he was thrown into, I
- 8:34Speaker 4: just don't think he could win. I mean, first of all,
- 8:38Speaker 4: like you said, going back to your point, hollis he
- 8:40Speaker 4: really hasn't even had practice with that first first team offense,
- 8:43Speaker 4: so you know, you throw him into a situation where
- 8:47Speaker 4: you're you're you know, you're already losing to the to
- 8:50Speaker 4: the team that you're playing. His stats were not great,
- 8:53Speaker 4: of course, you know, I'm sure he was nervous. I'm
- 8:55Speaker 4: sure he struggled with the mental part of it of
- 8:57Speaker 4: just being taken off the bench and thrown out there
- 8:59Speaker 4: without warning. Really, you know, his passing completions he only
- 9:04Speaker 4: made four out of sixteen attempts, as completion percentage was
- 9:09Speaker 4: twenty five percent. Passing yards total of forty seven with
- 9:13Speaker 4: zero touchdowns obviously, So yeah, he struggled, and he admitted that.
- 9:17Speaker 4: He admitted that in the press conference. You know, he'd
- 9:19Speaker 4: made some comments and I'll paraphrase some things that he said,
- 9:22Speaker 4: but you know, he said, I don't think I played
- 9:24Speaker 4: good at all. At least he admitted that part. But
- 9:27Speaker 4: then later on in the you know, I kind of
- 9:29Speaker 4: skipped over some of the other things he said. He
- 9:31Speaker 4: still has his swagger because he said, I know I'm
- 9:34Speaker 4: made for it. I don't think there was doubt in
- 9:37Speaker 4: my mind that final drive we were going to go
- 9:39Speaker 4: down there and score things. Happened differently. So in his mind,
- 9:45Speaker 4: even when he was thrown into this situation, his confidence
- 9:48Speaker 4: was still there. It was just mentally and physically, I
- 9:50Speaker 4: don't think he was ready or prepared to do what
- 9:52Speaker 4: he needed to do.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and the game speeds up so as you move
- 9:56Speaker 1: from the level from one to the next. And like
- 9:59Speaker 1: I said, if you have had any any reps and
- 10:02Speaker 1: it's just it makes me just question like even the
- 10:04Speaker 1: Philip said Philadelphia, but Cleveland coaching staff, because it's like
- 10:08Speaker 1: if you draft two quarterbacks, you're down to two, you
- 10:11Speaker 1: have a backup, obviously he's your backup. Then you have
- 10:15Speaker 1: to get him some first team reps. You have to
- 10:17Speaker 1: get him in there and get some reps. So I
- 10:19Speaker 1: don't understand what they're doing on that, And it just
- 10:21Speaker 1: doesn't make sense. And it's just sort of indicative of
- 10:24Speaker 1: who the Cleveland Browns are and why they are constantly
- 10:28Speaker 1: in the position that they're in right to to the
- 10:31Speaker 1: to the Browns piece of that, I'm gonna give you.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you some props on that, but I'm
- 10:36Speaker 1: gonna challenge I'm gonna challenge the and and and you know,
- 10:42Speaker 1: quarterback way better than I'm gonna know quarterback and I
- 10:45Speaker 1: and I do understand the challenges that come with playing quarterback,
- 10:49Speaker 1: all the things that you've got to know. But where
- 10:53Speaker 1: I have where I'm questioning, is, Okay, we all know
- 11:00Speaker 1: that you needed all of that, but you've been screaming
- 11:03Speaker 1: about getting in.
- 11:04Speaker 2: You've been getting you've been wanting to play.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So whether or not, whether or not you I mean
- 11:13Speaker 1: all you wanted to do, because all.
- 11:15Speaker 4: You want to think it was calculated? Do you think
- 11:17Speaker 4: that they did that to maybe prove a point to
- 11:19Speaker 4: him that I got hurt Gabriel? Yeah, but I'm saying,
- 11:24Speaker 4: was it calculated to put him in in that in
- 11:26Speaker 4: that situation without I know?
- 11:29Speaker 2: I think I don't think so.
- 11:30Speaker 1: But I think when you get put into that situation
- 11:35Speaker 1: and now it's real and you've never touched it, Dad
- 11:40Speaker 1: can't help you now and your cockingness or your confidence,
- 11:45Speaker 1: whatever you want to call it, it won't work. It
- 11:48Speaker 1: but it can't work because you haven't had any reps
- 11:51Speaker 1: at it. And again, quarterback is not a is not
- 11:54Speaker 1: a quote unquote pure athletic position. So I can't just
- 11:57Speaker 1: go out there as an athlete and make something happen.
- 12:00Speaker 1: As an athlete. If I want to really progress and
- 12:03Speaker 1: move the ball maturated down field, I have to number one,
- 12:07Speaker 1: have a feel for the offense. I have to have
- 12:09Speaker 1: worked this thing, because again, different coverage is gonna dictate
- 12:13Speaker 1: different reads. I'm gonna have to you know, even even
- 12:15Speaker 1: if you have the same coverage, if I'm a specific
- 12:18Speaker 1: cornerback and lineback, I have to make slightly different throws
- 12:20Speaker 1: in adjust. I have to know I have a weakness
- 12:23Speaker 1: on this side of the line. I have a strength
- 12:24Speaker 1: on her here, So I know. And all that doesn't
- 12:27Speaker 1: come through you just by studying it. You have to
- 12:29Speaker 1: feel it. And there's no way you're going to be
- 12:32Speaker 1: successful with the NFL quarterback by that.
- 12:35Speaker 2: You're not.
- 12:36Speaker 1: But I'm not buying no reps. I'm not buying that's
- 12:39Speaker 1: what's coming out. No, that's what everybody says. That's what
- 12:44Speaker 1: the organization is saying. Everybody's saying that. Okay, So so
- 12:51Speaker 1: my thing is if he's having sex. Okay, so let's
- 12:53Speaker 1: say if he's having second team quarterback reps, right, he's
- 13:00Speaker 1: he's he's throwing the ball, he's handing it off, he's
- 13:03Speaker 1: faking it, he's doing all those kinds of things that
- 13:05Speaker 1: the quarterback has to do. Now he's reading some defense,
- 13:09Speaker 1: whether it's a scout team or what. Don't wait a minute,
- 13:13Speaker 1: Wait a minute, Wait a minute. I'm not saying that
- 13:16Speaker 1: it works him reading the scout team. That won't help
- 13:19Speaker 1: him if that, because that's not the team that he's playing.
- 13:22Speaker 2: I understand that piece. I get that.
- 13:26Speaker 1: But if every every quarterback, everybody who's playing has to
- 13:34Speaker 1: be ready, what's what got to be ready when it comes?
- 13:37Speaker 1: And and and you got to be ready when I
- 13:41Speaker 1: think you got to be you can't. That's that's a
- 13:43Speaker 1: blanket statement. You can't pit there. Again, if what we're
- 13:46Speaker 1: if the reports are true, and we're saying and we
- 13:49Speaker 1: believe that he's not getting any first team action in practice,
- 13:53Speaker 1: this is not a pure mental I believe if we
- 13:56Speaker 1: believe that, if that's true, which I think is true
- 13:59Speaker 1: because it's.
- 14:00Speaker 4: It's coming from at one point he wasn't.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Even getting snapped excuse me, scout team reps when they
- 14:05Speaker 1: were fully quarterback, when they had a full quarterback room.
- 14:08Speaker 2: So it's just one of them positions.
- 14:10Speaker 1: You are not going to do well if you're not
- 14:13Speaker 1: in getting reps, you're just not well.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Correct me, if I'm wrong. I mean obviously that the
- 14:19Speaker 4: management wasn't too disappointed with this play because he's expected
- 14:23Speaker 4: to make his first start against the Raiders, right. I
- 14:27Speaker 4: don't know if they have a choice anybody else.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Now, it's just them too. In Gabriel, he's in country proto,
- 14:33Speaker 1: so he's not going to be available.
- 14:35Speaker 2: So it is what it is.
- 14:36Speaker 1: So hopefully I think this week we'll see, we'll see
- 14:39Speaker 1: what it is. And again I'm enjoying this fight because
- 14:45Speaker 1: like what like I'm an old school enough to also realize,
- 14:51Speaker 1: like you know, the opportunity to to get into a game.
- 14:58Speaker 2: You may not get.
- 14:59Speaker 1: You know, if if you're if you're a backup, you
- 15:02Speaker 1: might not get those reps. But when you become from
- 15:04Speaker 1: back up to the starter, you got to be able
- 15:09Speaker 1: to you got to come out and play. You you
- 15:11Speaker 1: can say, you can say that I didn't get enough reps,
- 15:14Speaker 1: I didn't get enough of this, I didn't do this.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Y'all didn't give me enough time.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Brother, Sometimes you don't get you got to come out
- 15:21Speaker 1: and play like you just got still.
- 15:23Speaker 4: Have to pretend like your quarterback is hurt, Like you
- 15:25Speaker 4: have to make sure that that second string quarterback is
- 15:28Speaker 4: ready to go. You is going to get You just
- 15:35Speaker 4: have to think that way, right.
- 15:36Speaker 1: This is why the Browns suck the terrible because to
- 15:41Speaker 1: your point, you know that you ain't never play football
- 15:44Speaker 1: in your life. And the fact that matters that if
- 15:47Speaker 1: I'm an organization, I'm a coach, It's on me to
- 15:51Speaker 1: make sure that my backup quarterback has a package that
- 15:54Speaker 1: he can feel comfortable doing so if he has to insert,
- 15:57Speaker 1: if I have to insert him in the game, then
- 15:59Speaker 1: I have about ten to fifteen players that I know
- 16:01Speaker 1: this guy can do and he's comfortable doing it.
- 16:04Speaker 2: He knows the reason against all defense.
- 16:06Speaker 1: There's no way in modern football that if you're not
- 16:09Speaker 1: getting any reps. I just don't believe that at the
- 16:13Speaker 1: quarterback position. Not at the quarterback position. It's like asking
- 16:16Speaker 1: a goalie to go in and he's not. He doesn't
- 16:19Speaker 1: feel any shots in soccer or hot He just sits
- 16:24Speaker 1: in the stands, sits on the sidelines. It goes on
- 16:27Speaker 1: work that way, it doesn't work.
- 16:28Speaker 2: And I buy that.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I'm one hundred percent with you. I just don't buy.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I just don't. I just don't. I can't imagine, Okay,
- 16:37Speaker 1: I'll say it that way. I can't imagine you having
- 16:40Speaker 1: a quarterback and you've got two available and you're only
- 16:46Speaker 1: giving you're giving all the reps to one.
- 16:48Speaker 4: That's what made me think there was another quarterback. I mean,
- 16:51Speaker 4: I mean, I mean when I heard that, I thought
- 16:53Speaker 4: there's gotta be somebody else.
- 16:54Speaker 2: I think they have emergency guy. I want to say somebody,
- 16:56Speaker 2: but it's not.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I think those are the two starting like shooting yes,
- 16:59Speaker 1: because they remember they were five one time.
- 17:01Speaker 4: Right, yeah, I remember they had too many.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I mean, I just don't I just don't see how
- 17:10Speaker 1: you get no reps. I just don't see how that is.
- 17:14Speaker 1: That is that you need to pull some strings and
- 17:19Speaker 1: get that coach on the show and we need to
- 17:22Speaker 1: ask him like, okay, that's we got five minutes. We
- 17:25Speaker 1: ask you one question. Is door getting reps?
- 17:27Speaker 3: And is he not?
- 17:28Speaker 2: Why?
- 17:28Speaker 4: So I watched the guys, I watched all those sports
- 17:31Speaker 4: shows today. ESPN was just you know, every single one
- 17:34Speaker 4: of them. They were talking about this situation, and you know,
- 17:36Speaker 4: they talked about his play and you being a former quarterback, Hollis,
- 17:40Speaker 4: and you being a coach and defensive player. I'll throw
- 17:43Speaker 4: this out there, but they said they felt like he
- 17:45Speaker 4: struggled with processing, which would be speed right, and that
- 17:49Speaker 4: too often like bailed backward out of the pocket, or
- 17:53Speaker 4: he fell backward on his throes and he was off target.
- 17:56Speaker 4: So that's more of technique than it is. I mean,
- 17:59Speaker 4: is that because he hasn't had that.
- 18:01Speaker 1: It's not technique, And I'll tell you why. That's a
- 18:04Speaker 1: good observation. It's not technique. It's it's more of eye
- 18:08Speaker 1: discipline because like I said, if I'm in the pocket
- 18:12Speaker 1: and I have reps, I'm used to the speed of
- 18:14Speaker 1: things going on, and I understand and know what I'm
- 18:16Speaker 1: looking at, because I mean, you're a professional athletes.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Process, yeah, you guys prep. It's all related to process.
- 18:22Speaker 1: So if I'm unsure what I'm looking at, then I'm
- 18:26Speaker 1: my fee get antsy, and I end up in my
- 18:28Speaker 1: mind trying to buy myself times waiting for guys to
- 18:31Speaker 1: get open because I'm not anticipating. Because good quarterbacks, you see,
- 18:35Speaker 1: they're throwing guys open, or they're throwing the ball before
- 18:37Speaker 1: the guy gets open, like right out the break and
- 18:38Speaker 1: they're throwing the ball. But if but if you don't
- 18:41Speaker 1: have that feel and if you don't have that repetition,
- 18:43Speaker 1: then you start doing stuff like that. So that's exactly
- 18:46Speaker 1: what this is, and it's indicative of somebody who is not.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Just going to ask that's something that can be corrected.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I meant, yeah, he's gonna he's gonna need reps. But
- 18:59Speaker 1: I want to ask this question, Hollis, sometimes when you
- 19:04Speaker 1: get put into that situation and you mentally remember what
- 19:09Speaker 1: that was now week two and you're gonna and you're
- 19:13Speaker 1: gonna start again in week two, even though let's say
- 19:16Speaker 1: they give you all of that information, all you can
- 19:19Speaker 1: remember because it's tough being in that pocket when you
- 19:22Speaker 1: got people coming. Is it possible that that's the that
- 19:28Speaker 1: that because of how he was handled, how it was
- 19:31Speaker 1: handled this past week, how poorly he played, because of
- 19:37Speaker 1: all the reasons, is he gonna like is that is
- 19:41Speaker 1: he gonna be.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Nervous again coming in?
- 19:43Speaker 1: He'll come fine, He'll be He'll be he's gonna be
- 19:46Speaker 1: so confident because he got that out, so he he
- 19:49Speaker 1: he actually got a feel now, So I mean it
- 19:52Speaker 1: probably is gonna work out pretty good because he actually
- 19:54Speaker 1: got some game even if he didn't get a whole
- 19:56Speaker 1: lot of reps prior to that, he got a game
- 19:58Speaker 1: time feel and then he'll get a whole week to
- 20:02Speaker 1: dissect that and then going into reps and give reps
- 20:05Speaker 1: and get all the reps in practice.
- 20:06Speaker 2: So I think you'll be fine.
- 20:07Speaker 4: So you're thinking this in your opinions now that he's
- 20:11Speaker 4: he's gotten that first game out of the way, and
- 20:13Speaker 4: he's going to get more practice, more reps, the things
- 20:15Speaker 4: he needs to get better. So now this coming week
- 20:19Speaker 4: when they, you know, play the Las Vegas Raiders, now
- 20:23Speaker 4: can we kind of make a judgment about whether he's
- 20:25Speaker 4: in NFL material.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I mean that fair, one hundred percent fair. I mean
- 20:29Speaker 1: I think this will be the first This would be
- 20:30Speaker 1: the first test, and we'll see, like this would be
- 20:33Speaker 1: test number one, see, and I would be willing to
- 20:36Speaker 1: give him. I would be willing to give him another.
- 20:40Speaker 4: Week even after this game.
- 20:41Speaker 5: Even after this, because what what I would like to
- 20:44Speaker 5: do probably maybe what I would like to do is
- 20:46Speaker 5: like you could can you see getting better? It doesn't
- 20:52Speaker 5: he's not gonna be yeah, just improvement would be great.
- 20:56Speaker 5: Whether it's whether he completes eight balls this time, you
- 21:00Speaker 5: know that's oh okay. So started for down with eight
- 21:03Speaker 5: and he looked a little bit more comfortable, because when
- 21:06Speaker 5: when you get thrown into a game at that level,
- 21:10Speaker 5: and really at any level and you're all of a
- 21:12Speaker 5: sudden you are the guy or you're.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Playing it's a lot. That's a lot.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean my, I guess my my barometer for
- 21:20Speaker 1: this week would just be like just hanging in the
- 21:22Speaker 1: pocket and being on time and just making good decisions. Again,
- 21:26Speaker 1: they might have some dropballs, maybe some off target, but
- 21:29Speaker 1: are you on time? Are you making the right decision,
- 21:31Speaker 1: are you making the right read are you are you
- 21:35Speaker 1: keeping up with speed? Are you figuring out okay I
- 21:37Speaker 1: need to you know, maybe I can run this for
- 21:39Speaker 1: this two or three yards? Are you just making the
- 21:41Speaker 1: good decisions? Are you calm?
- 21:44Speaker 2: You know?
- 21:44Speaker 1: Is your feet steady? So I'm looking for stuff like that.
- 21:47Speaker 1: You know, se what the one point that you made there?
- 21:50Speaker 1: Can they run the football? Because gosh yeah, because that
- 21:54Speaker 1: would wouldn't that be a great opportunity to be able
- 21:58Speaker 1: to play action do those kinds of things, Because when
- 22:02Speaker 1: when when you don't think if a team knows that
- 22:04Speaker 1: you can't know you can't run the football, man, they're coming.
- 22:07Speaker 2: At you and it's the Cleveland Browns.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Yeah I'm saying so it ain't about to win, it's
- 22:16Speaker 1: just you know, can you get a Can you get
- 22:17Speaker 1: ten fifteen percent better than what you was last week? Okay,
- 22:20Speaker 1: so so you're so your dad, what are you thinking now?
- 22:23Speaker 1: You you then saw your son in this in this scenario,
- 22:28Speaker 1: and you're Dion, What do you think?
- 22:30Speaker 2: I think Dyon thinking the same thing. Just get a
- 22:32Speaker 2: little bit better.
- 22:33Speaker 1: You gotta get some tape now, because ultimately I don't
- 22:36Speaker 1: think he's his future is in Cleveland.
- 22:38Speaker 2: It just ain't.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I don't think that's where he'll he'll be long term.
- 22:42Speaker 1: So right now, it's just about getting some tape. Can
- 22:44Speaker 1: you get a little bit better? Can to your point,
- 22:46Speaker 1: can you give everything every week that you play? Can
- 22:49Speaker 1: you get a little bit better?
- 22:50Speaker 4: Can go ahead? Finish?
- 22:53Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? Then just figure it out
- 22:54Speaker 2: for the next couple of years.
- 22:55Speaker 4: Yeah, just keep improving and figure out where you want
- 22:57Speaker 4: to be. Has Dion even come out and made like
- 22:59Speaker 4: an official statement about his his son's play. I haven't heard.
- 23:03Speaker 4: I don't think which.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Yes, I would. I think he should. I think he
- 23:06Speaker 2: should say that because.
- 23:08Speaker 4: There is his own problems in Colorado.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Yeah, there isn't any There isn't any reason for him
- 23:14Speaker 1: to even speak on that.
- 23:15Speaker 4: You know, and again, but sometimes it doesn't matter whether
- 23:19Speaker 4: he needs to speak on it or not. We know
- 23:21Speaker 4: Dion likes to speak on it, especially when it comes to.
- 23:23Speaker 1: I think if Dion gets in it, I think it
- 23:26Speaker 1: gets muddy. And I think and I and I truly.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Think he hasn't So.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I think this would be I think they would end
- 23:34Speaker 1: up either trading or cutting. I think they're going to
- 23:37Speaker 1: trade on Prougust. And again, it's just you know, he
- 23:40Speaker 1: coached the son in whole life. It's time to let
- 23:42Speaker 1: the training wheels off, and you got to let him
- 23:44Speaker 1: go be a pronounce yeah, yeah, which I think he
- 23:47Speaker 1: did a good He's done a good job because he
- 23:50Speaker 1: hasn't said to me, I haven't heard anything of him
- 23:53Speaker 1: speaking out over it.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Yeah, he may.
- 23:55Speaker 4: He may be facing a hot seat in Colorado with
- 23:57Speaker 4: the record they have and what's going on in the
- 23:59Speaker 4: Big Twelve. I mean it's I know it's Dion, but
- 24:03Speaker 4: this year's been been tough on that on the Buffalo,
- 24:06Speaker 4: all right, So if they were next to last and
- 24:08Speaker 4: the Big Twelve, if we.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Want to switch to Dad real quick, Okay.
- 24:11Speaker 4: So I'm just saying he maybe he's got a lot
- 24:15Speaker 4: of things on his plate and like Hollis just said
- 24:18Speaker 4: his son needs to figure it out for himself. He's grown,
- 24:21Speaker 4: he's a great man now he's in the NFL, and
- 24:23Speaker 4: he needs to do this. And then Dion probably needs
- 24:25Speaker 4: to focus on his own health and his own issues
- 24:27Speaker 4: with football in Colorado in my opinion, but.
- 24:30Speaker 2: I'm with you.
- 24:32Speaker 1: I think his health is actually a thousand times more important,
- 24:38Speaker 1: or should be important everybody's health.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Than him trying to stay at Colorado for what? For who?
- 24:45Speaker 1: Why is why am I staying in this situation, trying
- 24:50Speaker 1: to turn this program around, make it something great? Why
- 24:55Speaker 1: am I doing that when my own individual health is
- 25:00Speaker 1: I'm having issues with my health.
- 25:02Speaker 4: Do you think that this question is for both of you?
- 25:06Speaker 4: Do you ever think that Colorado would put pressure on
- 25:08Speaker 4: him to step down or do you think it's a
- 25:10Speaker 4: position that Dion will He can do what he pleases
- 25:13Speaker 4: as long as he as he pleases.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I don't regardless, I don't think so he can. I
- 25:18Speaker 1: don't think that they're going to give him that. I
- 25:20Speaker 1: think he might he's used to having that right right,
- 25:25Speaker 1: but he's not, nor is he used to having what's
- 25:28Speaker 1: called what people might call failure. He doesn't know what
- 25:33Speaker 1: that feels like or he's never really been through it.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Everything that he has ever tried to do, he didn't
- 25:39Speaker 1: just do it, he did it great, and all of
- 25:42Speaker 1: a sudden, now he's in a situation where it's it's
- 25:46Speaker 1: not at this point, it's not even good.
- 25:47Speaker 4: I mean he's had six I saw this on the
- 25:49Speaker 4: internet today. He's had sixteen surgeries since twenty twenty one. Yeah,
- 25:54Speaker 4: that's a lot.
- 25:54Speaker 2: If I'm if I'm the school.
- 25:56Speaker 4: I mean, I'm.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Sitting him down and say, look, your health is more
- 26:04Speaker 1: important to us than you trying to you trying to
- 26:09Speaker 1: run our football program. You need to you need to
- 26:12Speaker 1: go take care of yourself for your family, get a
- 26:16Speaker 1: chance to do the things that you need to do, and.
- 26:20Speaker 2: And we can and we move on.
- 26:22Speaker 1: I think just because of his health, like number one,
- 26:24Speaker 1: you don't have the energy to recruit like you need
- 26:26Speaker 1: to and you don't have and I think you just
- 26:30Speaker 1: you can't be the draw like you were initially. So
- 26:33Speaker 1: I think him, Travis and his son Shador was like
- 26:36Speaker 1: there was a big draw. There was a lot of hype,
- 26:38Speaker 1: a lot of energy was the swag, the glasses, everything
- 26:41Speaker 1: around it.
- 26:41Speaker 2: So that's kind of wane. And then the football is
- 26:44Speaker 2: just not great.
- 26:45Speaker 1: So you know, it's like I said, Colorado is a
- 26:48Speaker 1: tough place to recruit, you know, from everywhere else and
- 26:51Speaker 1: it's in the Big twelve. So I think it's one
- 26:53Speaker 1: of the situations where it's probably gonna be another year
- 26:55Speaker 1: or two then we'll see him transition to something else.
- 26:58Speaker 1: You think you think he's gonna go two more, You
- 27:00Speaker 1: think there could be two more, yeay, one or too
- 27:01Speaker 1: many years. I think he wants to figure out if
- 27:03Speaker 1: he can win or not. But like again, I just
- 27:05Speaker 1: don't know if you have the energy to really do that.
- 27:07Speaker 1: And I think the hype is gone.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I do too, I think I think the hype is gone.
- 27:11Speaker 4: I don't know. People were pretty excited in Morgantown when
- 27:14Speaker 4: he was there. I mean people because I mean it's Dion.
- 27:17Speaker 4: I mean the hype for him to be somewhere is
- 27:21Speaker 4: still there. But oh yeah, I think as far as
- 27:23Speaker 4: the team goes.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think Dion is always going to
- 27:26Speaker 1: be appreciated wherever he goes. You know, he comes, He's
- 27:30Speaker 1: coming to WU. Everybody's coming to that game because we
- 27:33Speaker 1: want to just get a glimpse.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Of him, just get a picture. Yeah. But for him
- 27:38Speaker 2: on his own, on his individual.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Side of it, he's got to look, he's got to
- 27:44Speaker 1: look at his his own individual health. And now again
- 27:48Speaker 1: he doesn't have anybody that to He has no loyalty
- 27:52Speaker 1: to Colorado at this point. Now now that now that
- 27:56Speaker 1: the boys are gone, you know, but I think he
- 28:00Speaker 1: he's just that competitive that he just don't you know,
- 28:05Speaker 1: he doesn't want to quote lose, and I don't know
- 28:07Speaker 1: if him not having a winning record there is losing.
- 28:13Speaker 1: I think the kids who he's touched, you know, I
- 28:17Speaker 1: think all of them, sure for the rest of their
- 28:19Speaker 1: life will be a Dion thing.
- 28:22Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, so, oh well, the numbers are, but the
- 28:28Speaker 4: numbers are not great. Like I think they're like three
- 28:30Speaker 4: and seven overall, and they're like one in six conference play,
- 28:34Speaker 4: which is yeah, big twelve. It's hard to hard to
- 28:40Speaker 4: support that. I don't know. I mean as far as
- 28:42Speaker 4: lay like we understand and as you know, people that
- 28:45Speaker 4: understand football, but for the layman fan, you know, they
- 28:48Speaker 4: want wins right period period.

- 30:19Speaker 3: Now back to the conversation.
- 30:21Speaker 2: So this is a story.
- 30:22Speaker 1: We touched on a subject I would say we touched
- 30:24Speaker 1: on a bunch of times as gambling and gambling around sports.
- 30:29Speaker 1: You know, we heard obviously what happened with the NBA
- 30:34Speaker 1: players and coaches and different things of that nature. But
- 30:37Speaker 1: two stories popped up where we have some basketball players
- 30:42Speaker 1: from the University of New Orleans got caught basically point shaving,
- 30:46Speaker 1: and then we had some baseball players from the Cleveland
- 30:50Speaker 1: Guardians who got caught I guess manipulating prop bets and
- 30:55Speaker 1: I think, you know, and just to talk on the
- 30:58Speaker 1: prop bets, you know, prop bests is like you can
- 31:00Speaker 1: bet on something specific, like you can bet on what's
- 31:02Speaker 1: going to be the first pitch, or or how what's
- 31:05Speaker 1: the average speed, or what's going to be the coin
- 31:07Speaker 1: toss and all those things. So when we talk about,
- 31:10Speaker 1: you know, this continued culture of gambling and how embedded
- 31:14Speaker 1: sports are, and we're gonna, in my opinion, we'll see
- 31:17Speaker 1: more and more of these sort of stories. Just because
- 31:19Speaker 1: we talked about Dionne and competitive. All these other athletes
- 31:22Speaker 1: are competitive as well, and it's and it's a culture
- 31:25Speaker 1: that a lot of these young men are growing up into,
- 31:27Speaker 1: so they'll start gambling really has pre teens, and it
- 31:31Speaker 1: persists even as they move and reticulate through professional ranks.
- 31:36Speaker 1: So I mean, what what what do we do as
- 31:39Speaker 1: a culture to address this, Like how do we figure
- 31:43Speaker 1: out you know, or are we just going to continue
- 31:45Speaker 1: to see story after story about this.
- 31:47Speaker 4: I mean, I think once we had the NBA that
- 31:50Speaker 4: the big you know bust of what happened with the
- 31:53Speaker 4: coach down there, and are the coaches in the league
- 31:56Speaker 4: and you know, all of that coming down. I think
- 31:59Speaker 4: that the other stuff is going to start coming out too.
- 32:02Speaker 4: We talked about this. You know, once the dam breaks,
- 32:05Speaker 4: the water just comes rolling through, and so there's going
- 32:07Speaker 4: to be more and more of these stories coming out
- 32:10Speaker 4: from different angles in the sports world. I don't know,
- 32:14Speaker 4: how you fix it now. I think that it's just
- 32:16Speaker 4: so difficult when you turn on the TV in the commercial,
- 32:19Speaker 4: you know, on ESPN's DraftKings, and we've talked about this,
- 32:22Speaker 4: it's so easy to access. It's not like it used
- 32:24Speaker 4: to be. You pick up your phone, you can gamble.
- 32:26Speaker 4: You don't have to go to a casino. I don't know.
- 32:28Speaker 1: I mean, I know one of the things they were
- 32:31Speaker 1: talking about doing was getting rid of a lot of
- 32:33Speaker 1: the prop bets, so all them like small little bets
- 32:36Speaker 1: you can make.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Getting rid of that.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Well, they do that, though I think they have to
- 32:39Speaker 1: to a certain degree it in. They have to rein
- 32:42Speaker 1: it in. But even to that point again, and it
- 32:44Speaker 1: goes back to money in sports where you have the
- 32:47Speaker 1: University of New Orleans basketball, which is a small I
- 32:50Speaker 1: don't know if maybe a one double A program or
- 32:53Speaker 1: FCS program, maybe even Division two, but those kids were
- 32:56Speaker 1: getting like five they were approached by, you know, a
- 32:58Speaker 1: big money guy. They're getting like, I have ten thousand
- 33:00Speaker 1: dollars a game to fix games. Because now and again,
- 33:03Speaker 1: that's what I want people to realize. It's not just
- 33:05Speaker 1: betting on the Alabama's or the or the NFL, the
- 33:09Speaker 1: NBA people. I read a story with this guy was
- 33:11Speaker 1: betting on like women's basketball in Iceland. They're betting on
- 33:15Speaker 1: like these like real like low soccer league. You don't
- 33:19Speaker 1: have the Premier League, you have the other leagues. They're
- 33:21Speaker 1: betting on soccer league. They bet on cricket, they're betting
- 33:23Speaker 1: on stuff across the water. They're betting on like darn near,
- 33:26Speaker 1: like amateur sports like minor excuse me, league. So it's
- 33:30Speaker 1: like it just it just seems like it's not stopping.
- 33:34Speaker 1: It's just getting worse and worse and worse worse. Okay,
- 33:37Speaker 1: And that's a valid, very valid point, and I'm gonna
- 33:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna go from there.
- 33:44Speaker 2: So back in the day when I was playing.
- 33:48Speaker 1: You didn't have you didn't have gambling commercials, you didn't
- 33:52Speaker 1: have all of this kind of stuff that that's out front.
- 33:57Speaker 1: So if you were gambling and you couldn't gamble on
- 34:00Speaker 1: on football, more than likely you probably wasn't gonna do it. Now,
- 34:03Speaker 1: did somebody do it? I'm sure somebody got away with it.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Somebody may have gotten caught and I don't even remember,
- 34:09Speaker 1: but in today's market, who Okay, So you're gonna tell
- 34:15Speaker 1: me not to gamble, But you're gonna have gambling as
- 34:20Speaker 1: a as a sponsor. You're like, you're you're putting these
- 34:24Speaker 1: things out there for what? Because you want to make
- 34:27Speaker 1: this money? So when you're promoting gambling, it's part of
- 34:33Speaker 1: every football commercial. You're promoting that.
- 34:39Speaker 4: And ESPN has its own segment that you know, So
- 34:45Speaker 4: how are you.
- 34:46Speaker 2: How are you gonna do that?
- 34:48Speaker 1: Like, how are you gonna How am I gonna make
- 34:50Speaker 1: you I'm promoting something that's gambling and I'm telling you
- 34:54Speaker 1: that it's illegal.
- 34:56Speaker 2: How does that work?
- 34:57Speaker 4: Society's normalized it, like it's like you know, and I
- 35:00Speaker 4: believe that's not it's not tapio.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I think again.
- 35:03Speaker 1: The problem is when we're again with these two stories
- 35:05Speaker 1: with the baseball players and the basketball players, it's not
- 35:08Speaker 1: that they were even gambling. They were involved in the
- 35:11Speaker 1: manipulation of it.
- 35:13Speaker 2: You see what I'm.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Saying, it's anticipating I help you.
- 35:15Speaker 2: I'm gonna help you get that I'm gonna help you
- 35:17Speaker 2: get that money.
- 35:18Speaker 1: I'm like, so, I gues We've seen this before, but
- 35:22Speaker 1: I'm just thinking, like how much are we? How much
- 35:24Speaker 1: have we? Is it already happened? I'm sure there's been.
- 35:26Speaker 1: It's been happening over the last year. These guys who
- 35:29Speaker 1: got caught, this wasn't their first time. It wasn't their
- 35:31Speaker 1: first time, and there's more people who are doing it.
- 35:33Speaker 1: So again, has you have these degenerate gamblers or just
- 35:36Speaker 1: people with deep pockets approaching you? And I'm playing basketball
- 35:39Speaker 1: and I probably don't have a shot at going into
- 35:41Speaker 1: the to the NBA. I may not be getting any
- 35:43Speaker 1: in any nil money. Heck, if you're gonna offer me
- 35:46Speaker 1: five ten thousand dollars a game to you know, throw
- 35:49Speaker 1: a game or fix a game, or make sure we
- 35:51Speaker 1: don't score any prisonsble, I wouldn't not do that because
- 35:54Speaker 1: we're because we're in a we're in a culture of
- 35:57Speaker 1: of you know, of tip for tap. We're in a
- 35:59Speaker 1: culture of like what you've done well, culture of just
- 36:01Speaker 1: give me some money. I'm find a way to get
- 36:03Speaker 1: some money. That's my ni l Yeah, that's yeah, Yeah,
- 36:07Speaker 1: I'm fixing games.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:09Speaker 4: And I remember we had this conversation before, Matt. You
- 36:11Speaker 4: were talking about how it's getting easier for these people
- 36:16Speaker 4: that do these types of gambling schemes to get in
- 36:19Speaker 4: contact with the players point because of the different events, schools,
- 36:24Speaker 4: are doing now for for fans to get a better experience,
- 36:27Speaker 4: and like, tell us about the one Matt Man in
- 36:31Speaker 4: social media for.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Sure, so you could just DM somebody and say, hey.
- 36:34Speaker 4: Yeah it was like but but it was something about
- 36:38Speaker 4: I think it was was it Ohio State?
- 36:40Speaker 2: Man, it was Cavaliers?
- 36:42Speaker 4: Okay, Cleveland, Sorry it was Pro Go ahead tell.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Us a little bit. Yeah.
- 36:45Speaker 8: They're just creating kind of like a almost sort of
- 36:48Speaker 8: like a private club where you have to pay five
- 36:51Speaker 8: figures to get in there, and it's going to give
- 36:53Speaker 8: you extra access to players.
- 36:54Speaker 2: It's going to get you.
- 36:56Speaker 8: It's kind of like the next level beyond if you're
- 36:59Speaker 8: like already a regular season suite holder. It's just kind
- 37:03Speaker 8: of like an exclusive group within.
- 37:05Speaker 2: The exclusive career.
- 37:06Speaker 4: Who's got the money to do that? The people that are,
- 37:09Speaker 4: you know, promoting these schemes that are getting to the
- 37:11Speaker 4: players and saying, hey, I've got something for you, and
- 37:13Speaker 4: then do something for me.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Think about it.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Think about if they can get to a professional basketball
- 37:18Speaker 1: player and they can make some sort of deal or
- 37:20Speaker 1: in the pockets, what do you think is going to
- 37:22Speaker 1: be for somebody that goes to State or Glenville or
- 37:24Speaker 1: you see, like because literally they're betting on those games. Yes,
- 37:28Speaker 1: those games are getting betted on. So it's not just
- 37:31Speaker 1: like I said, it's not big games, not just the
- 37:33Speaker 1: big games.
- 37:34Speaker 2: So it's all sports now.
- 37:35Speaker 4: And the fact that so did NIL open this door,
- 37:39Speaker 4: you think to a degree.
- 37:40Speaker 1: I think gaming gambling in general, I think N I
- 37:44Speaker 1: l because it made it about the money money again.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Because again, and.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I want to preface this by saying that, you know,
- 37:51Speaker 1: not gambling gambling has been.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Going on for a long time. Sports.
- 37:54Speaker 1: We see the other sports shaving gamble, excuse me, scandals,
- 37:57Speaker 1: So we've seen this before. This is not necessarily new.
- 38:00Speaker 1: But I just think we're going to see it to
- 38:01Speaker 1: a level that we haven't seen it before. I think
- 38:04Speaker 1: because it's it's been showing up. I think it's showing
- 38:10Speaker 1: up in football because to your point, it's probably always
- 38:16Speaker 1: been there. Somebody was doing it, but nobody cared enough
- 38:21Speaker 1: to really go deep diving into it. But now when
- 38:25Speaker 1: you start looking at the other sports and you're finding
- 38:28Speaker 1: it constantly. But I think what happened is the prop
- 38:32Speaker 1: bets made it different because now it's not about it's
- 38:35Speaker 1: not about winning. I don't have to throw the game
- 38:37Speaker 1: if I'm I can. I can literally make a bet
- 38:40Speaker 1: that says, you know, the point guard to WVU, his
- 38:43Speaker 1: first shot is going to be a three point shot.
- 38:46Speaker 1: I can make that bet probably somewhere, and if he
- 38:48Speaker 1: makes it, then I can win. So it's not about
- 38:51Speaker 1: you don't have to like throw the game, but you
- 38:52Speaker 1: don't have to, like you know, your ethical or memorial
- 38:55Speaker 1: standard doesn't have to be compromised. You could just say, hey,
- 38:58Speaker 1: I'll take that first three and I'll collect whatever.
- 39:01Speaker 2: You know, this guy's gonna pay me.
- 39:02Speaker 1: So so I think it's just I think to your point,
- 39:05Speaker 1: that's what's opening up because you have such the variety
- 39:08Speaker 1: of bets and in ways than which you can bet.
- 39:11Speaker 2: And do you think the guys who.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Are are getting tied up in this type of betting,
- 39:18Speaker 1: do you think that they think, like, like, it's not
- 39:21Speaker 1: me really betting, because I'm not really betting. I'm not
- 39:23Speaker 1: going to really like necessarily gambling. It's just that they're
- 39:27Speaker 1: not saying I don't have to throw the game. I
- 39:29Speaker 1: don't have to. I don't have to risk throwing a game.
- 39:32Speaker 4: They don't feel morally, yeah I can do that. Yeah,
- 39:36Speaker 4: it's not a big deal.
- 39:37Speaker 1: I don't think of looking as like an ethical or
- 39:39Speaker 1: moral issue as it relates to playing or keeping the
- 39:43Speaker 1: sanctity of the game. I don't think they're looking at
- 39:45Speaker 1: it like that. It's just like it's one little thing
- 39:46Speaker 1: I can do it. So I think that's probably one
- 39:49Speaker 1: thing that's going to have to go.
- 39:51Speaker 4: Okay, So who who, though, who decides the bets have
- 39:54Speaker 4: to go.
- 39:55Speaker 1: I think it's going to have to be a combination
- 39:56Speaker 1: of the leagues in the in the gaming books and
- 39:59Speaker 1: seeing I don't think I don't think they have I
- 40:01Speaker 1: don't think they have a partnership. Well. I think what
- 40:03Speaker 1: happens is that I know I can't specifically remember which one,
- 40:06Speaker 1: but I know one of them limited, so you can
- 40:09Speaker 1: only bet up to like two hundred bucks. I think
- 40:11Speaker 1: it maybe want to parlay in some prop bets so
- 40:13Speaker 1: you can only there's a max of how much you
- 40:15Speaker 1: can bet, how many times you can bet it. So
- 40:17Speaker 1: I think in their mind, well, you're not gonna win
- 40:19Speaker 1: big money, so you can't bet like five hundred thousand
- 40:22Speaker 1: dollars on this prop bet anymore. So I think they're
- 40:24Speaker 1: trying to do things like that without necessarily like eliminating
- 40:27Speaker 1: them totality.
- 40:29Speaker 2: But I think too. If it's available.
- 40:32Speaker 1: To me, if I have access to it as a player,
- 40:37Speaker 1: that's really not your fault, you know, because you're not
- 40:41Speaker 1: really as the as the gambling organization. It's really not
- 40:44Speaker 1: your your responsibility for me to go. My rule is
- 40:49Speaker 1: I'm not supposed to be able to gamble, so I
- 40:52Speaker 1: should not go. Okay, I should not. I should not gamble.
- 40:55Speaker 1: So the moment that I come, nobody's in front of me.
- 40:59Speaker 1: I don't think I'm going to get come again. The
- 41:01Speaker 1: issues not gambling per se. The issue is fixing the game,
- 41:06Speaker 1: manipulating it. That's the issue. That's the issues Like Damon Jones,
- 41:12Speaker 1: But as far as related to him, I want to say,
- 41:14Speaker 1: Damon Jones, well, one of the NBA guys, his issue
- 41:18Speaker 1: wasn't gambling per se. His issue was given the inside information,
- 41:21Speaker 1: who's not playing, who's not playing?
- 41:23Speaker 2: Who said now?
- 41:24Speaker 1: Who injured contributes issue? So that's what Muddy's in toxic
- 41:28Speaker 1: the water.
- 41:29Speaker 4: Because but he's placing money and it's betting on something,
- 41:32Speaker 4: and any type of betting is a form of gambling.
- 41:35Speaker 1: I'm talking about No, no, no, I'm not talking you're you
- 41:38Speaker 1: guys are right on that, But that's not the issue.
- 41:40Speaker 1: The issue is them releasing inside information or I'm fixing
- 41:44Speaker 1: something to.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Help this, helping the gambling, they're helping the games.
- 41:50Speaker 2: They're manipulating the game because.
- 41:53Speaker 1: And you're letting Lisa know that I'm not playing this,
- 41:57Speaker 1: you're not playing she can make a bet related to
- 41:59Speaker 1: that somehow. So that's that's the issue. And I'm saying
- 42:03Speaker 1: if it was just gambling, that's one thing. But when
- 42:05Speaker 1: we're actually you're manipulating the books, that's where you're gonna
- 42:08Speaker 1: have a problem.
- 42:09Speaker 2: Man.
- 42:09Speaker 1: And eventually it's gonna come to you know, somebody's gonna
- 42:12Speaker 1: throw a fix a game and it's gonna be a
- 42:13Speaker 1: big one.
- 42:14Speaker 8: Let me ask you this, how far of separation do
- 42:16Speaker 8: you think it's gotta be. Let's say NBA player A
- 42:21Speaker 8: decides he wants to gamble nothing that involves him or
- 42:23Speaker 8: his team, but he wants to bet on something that
- 42:26Speaker 8: involves player B. Do you think that players should be
- 42:30Speaker 8: able to bet on other teams, other players in the
- 42:33Speaker 8: league or.
- 42:35Speaker 2: That's crazy because and I know and I know what
- 42:39Speaker 2: it is now.
- 42:40Speaker 1: I think if like, if I play in the NBA,
- 42:42Speaker 1: I can bet on the NFL, But I'm not supposed
- 42:44Speaker 1: to bet on the NBA again. I just think it
- 42:46Speaker 1: muddies the water because we know all these NBA guys,
- 42:49Speaker 1: they have relationships.
- 42:51Speaker 2: So it's just if I'm.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Gonna make that prop bet on my this guy that
- 42:54Speaker 1: I know, I play for the Laker, he plays for Dallas,
- 42:57Speaker 1: it's just the yeah, look right, because we don't know
- 43:01Speaker 1: how that can manipulate it. I just I think I
- 43:05Speaker 1: just think at some point the leagues are going to
- 43:08Speaker 1: have to fight a different revenue stream. I don't think
- 43:10Speaker 1: it's a league. I can be fully in this. I
- 43:13Speaker 1: can be fully vested in this. This could be a
- 43:15Speaker 1: sponsor of mine. I can have the star of my
- 43:18Speaker 1: league in Draft Lebron James is in Draft King commercial
- 43:21Speaker 1: I know, yes, Like like how like what are we doing?
- 43:25Speaker 1: And you're gonna and I'll make the case he may
- 43:27Speaker 1: not even drink. He might be that athlete that don't
- 43:29Speaker 1: that that doesn't drink, Yeah, that doesn't gamble, but he's
- 43:32Speaker 1: gonna be in it, yeah because it's Draft King.
- 43:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:36Speaker 4: Well, but here's the other part of it. Guys, And
- 43:38Speaker 4: I know what you're saying about, like you shouldn't be
- 43:40Speaker 4: allowed to to bet in your you can, like if
- 43:43Speaker 4: you're an NFL player. You can bet on NBA, but
- 43:46Speaker 4: you can't bet on NFL stuff, right, But all of
- 43:49Speaker 4: these professional athletes kind of run in the same circles
- 43:53Speaker 4: and and so you know, they're they're all in the
- 43:55Speaker 4: same you know, income brackets, so to speak. So they're
- 43:58Speaker 4: going to the same parties, they know this same people.
- 44:01Speaker 4: You know that. There are all good points, you know.
- 44:03Speaker 4: So so really there's not a whole lot of differentiation
- 44:07Speaker 4: between betting one professional sport from another. Now, college is
- 44:10Speaker 4: a whole different animal, we're not we're not talking about that.
- 44:13Speaker 4: But at the professional level, these guys don't know each other.
- 44:15Speaker 2: That's true. That's a good point, Listen, that's a good point.
- 44:17Speaker 1: I just think, I think in order to maintain the
- 44:21Speaker 1: safety to the game, to to not corrupt it to
- 44:23Speaker 1: a point where people don't believe it, where it becomes WWE,
- 44:26Speaker 1: I think you.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Just got to get rid of it.
- 44:28Speaker 4: That's just the faith of fans.
- 44:30Speaker 1: I think, lose the faith. I think you just got
- 44:33Speaker 1: it at some point. It's got to be a total
- 44:35Speaker 1: separation like it was before. And and because if you
- 44:38Speaker 1: if you, if you, if you just try to say
- 44:42Speaker 1: that if a player gets caught gambling at this level,
- 44:47Speaker 1: it's you're out. You can't do anything, Like you should
- 44:51Speaker 1: not be able to bet on any sport at all
- 44:56Speaker 1: because you're because you're in it, you know what I'm saying,
- 44:58Speaker 1: Like you like you're you're the basketball player, I'm the
- 45:01Speaker 1: football player.
- 45:01Speaker 2: We're buddies.
- 45:02Speaker 1: We went to the same college, Hollis. Won't you let
- 45:07Speaker 1: me know some information? You know it's such and such
- 45:09Speaker 1: playing you know, Okay, I'll let you know.
- 45:12Speaker 2: Were easy to do this, that's.
- 45:14Speaker 1: So easy to do, particularly now we could just do
- 45:17Speaker 1: somebody exactly. I just, like I said, I just think
- 45:20Speaker 1: I don't know, you gotta get rid of it. That's
- 45:22Speaker 1: just my opinion. And it's got to be a hard
- 45:25Speaker 1: line and it's got to be a wall in between
- 45:27Speaker 1: that so it doesn't cross.
- 45:28Speaker 4: And I'm totally in agreement. But I don't know how
- 45:30Speaker 4: it happens with revenue. I mean, you know that they're
- 45:33Speaker 4: so neat, they're so deep into the money part of it,
- 45:36Speaker 4: the revenue that they're generating, being in bed with all
- 45:39Speaker 4: these gambling platforms. I don't see it happening anytime soon.
- 45:42Speaker 9: I'm trying to figure out, like, like how how did
- 45:46Speaker 9: this all just start to develop, Like, you know, where's
- 45:50Speaker 9: the startup of making the connections with the NFL player,
- 45:58Speaker 9: the NBA player, Like who's making that is that?
- 46:01Speaker 1: Are we making the case that that's somebody in the
- 46:03Speaker 1: mafia or because I got to be available for you?
- 46:07Speaker 1: I don't see if you're the mafia guy, if you're
- 46:09Speaker 1: the head guy, why am I even How do I
- 46:12Speaker 1: even know you? How do we know each other? How
- 46:15Speaker 1: do we get to this point? It's like, if you're
- 46:17Speaker 1: hanging around people at a certain tackle income bracket, it's
- 46:21Speaker 1: going to be guys in the underworld who make that
- 46:23Speaker 1: same level of money.
- 46:24Speaker 2: So and if you're a.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Person who likes to play cards or this or that,
- 46:27Speaker 1: then you know, one thing leads to another and then
- 46:30Speaker 1: you find yourself maybe owning a couple million or a
- 46:32Speaker 1: couple hundred thousand, which you can't pay right now. So
- 46:36Speaker 1: I think it's probably easier than what we think. And
- 46:40Speaker 1: like I said, if you're just in this environment where
- 46:42Speaker 1: it's gambling just is omnipresent, it's all around you, it's
- 46:48Speaker 1: stuff like it's going on.
- 46:49Speaker 4: And I think that the root of all of it
- 46:51Speaker 4: is years ago when they legalized online gambling. I mean
- 46:55Speaker 4: it went from having to go to a casino to
- 46:57Speaker 4: place a bet and you know, do things in person,
- 47:00Speaker 4: to just all access for everybody. And when they started that,
- 47:04Speaker 4: it just the ball just started rolling and it just
- 47:07Speaker 4: kind of infiltrated sports and every other aspect in society.
- 47:11Speaker 7: Well.
- 47:11Speaker 8: And it was a it was a Supreme Court ruling
- 47:13Speaker 8: in twenty eighteen was the big one because it used
- 47:16Speaker 8: to be that every state had control over whether or
- 47:20Speaker 8: not they legalize it, and then that shot that down.
- 47:23Speaker 8: And so that's what opened up all these you know,
- 47:26Speaker 8: bet MGM, draft kings, that type of stuff, because now
- 47:29Speaker 8: it's nationwide.
- 47:30Speaker 4: Yes, you're right, you're right, you're absolutely right.
- 47:33Speaker 2: I don't. I can't.
- 47:35Speaker 1: I can't honestly say I can ever remember like any
- 47:39Speaker 1: form of betting, gambling of any sort being a commercial.
- 47:48Speaker 2: You know, even even being at the game. Yeah, you
- 47:53Speaker 2: know the video board is.
- 47:54Speaker 1: Going to have you know, some something up there, whether
- 47:59Speaker 1: it's alcohol or gambling, there's gonna be something like that there. Yes,
- 48:05Speaker 1: And why would why would you? Why would the why
- 48:08Speaker 1: would the ownership? And this is a bad example, but
- 48:13Speaker 1: get in bed with all of these types of organizations
- 48:19Speaker 1: where yeah, I get it, it is I know, for fact,
- 48:22Speaker 1: it's money. But how men are you? How are you
- 48:25Speaker 1: correcting me? How can you correct me?
- 48:30Speaker 2: How you're gonna tell me?
- 48:31Speaker 1: I guess it's just like you can drink, but you
- 48:33Speaker 1: can't drink and drive, So it's limits to it, or
- 48:36Speaker 1: or or or the parent situation of like do as
- 48:42Speaker 1: I say, not as I do, because I think that
- 48:46Speaker 1: I mean, at the end of the day, I really
- 48:48Speaker 1: truly think that that's that's that's really where we are.
- 48:51Speaker 1: But I think we're gonna lose. I think we're gonna
- 48:54Speaker 1: lose a lot of a lot of the fan base.
- 48:59Speaker 1: Let one big scandal come out.
- 49:01Speaker 2: Of a football team. Yeah, let's say a Super Bowl.
- 49:06Speaker 4: People already complained, they said, oh, it's fixed.
- 49:08Speaker 5: I mean, the time you're hearing that the NFL fixed,
- 49:12Speaker 5: every call.
- 49:13Speaker 4: It's going to take is one, Like you said, one scandal,
- 49:16Speaker 4: and that's just gonna solidify the idea that it's all fixed.
- 49:20Speaker 1: I'm done with, you know. Yeah, and you're gonna lose
- 49:23Speaker 1: your fan base.
- 49:24Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 49:24Speaker 8: Well, and like leagues like the NBA, I mean, they're
- 49:27Speaker 8: already like fifty percent viewership down. Then you add in
- 49:31Speaker 8: stuff like this, I don't think that's going to help
- 49:33Speaker 8: them at.
- 49:33Speaker 1: All at all, and I and I really really really
- 49:37Speaker 1: think that it could sink, yeah, the NFL.
- 49:41Speaker 4: Like I may sink the NBA. And to your point, Matt,
- 49:45Speaker 4: I mean there they were already on the edge of
- 49:48Speaker 4: some problems anyway financially, so this isn't good.
- 49:52Speaker 2: All right.
- 49:52Speaker 1: And to that point, let's say your team, you find
- 49:57Speaker 1: out that your team is running the scandal. So like
- 50:01Speaker 1: all of a sudden, I figure out like some some
- 50:04Speaker 1: people have been betting at the Viking or through the
- 50:06Speaker 1: Viking organization.
- 50:09Speaker 2: How do you how do you react to that? Like,
- 50:12Speaker 2: is that like I'm no longer involved with them.
- 50:14Speaker 4: But I think it would be even harder. I mean
- 50:16Speaker 4: not just for the person who watches them on TV
- 50:18Speaker 4: from week to week, but those season ticket holders, those
- 50:20Speaker 4: people who shell out the money, yeah, week to week,
- 50:24Speaker 4: you know, being a fan, going to the games when
- 50:27Speaker 4: they're at home, and you know all all the things
- 50:30Speaker 4: that come with that. I mean, the people that are
- 50:32Speaker 4: really investing their money, which is a lot of blue
- 50:35Speaker 4: collar people, you know, that's that's the NFL fan base.
- 50:38Speaker 4: And when they find out that, you know, there's been
- 50:40Speaker 4: some tinkering with their team, you know that that's gonna
- 50:43Speaker 4: they'll be disillusioned and a lot of them will pull
- 50:45Speaker 4: their money away from that. I would, I think I would.
- 50:48Speaker 4: I mean, if that's what happens, it.
- 50:50Speaker 2: Would be hard It would be hard pressed for me to.
- 50:54Speaker 1: To go to a Viking game under the under the
- 50:59Speaker 1: con concept of of knowing that someone has someone has
- 51:08Speaker 1: been or is in the process we're finding out that
- 51:12Speaker 1: they're gambling or whatever. I don't even know, like like
- 51:17Speaker 1: why would I even be involved quote in the team
- 51:21Speaker 1: aspect of that. Yeah, And I think that's the and
- 51:24Speaker 1: I think that's I think that's what the NFL doesn't
- 51:27Speaker 1: really or in the NBA and even baseball, like you
- 51:31Speaker 1: don't understand like how fragile the fan base former players
- 51:40Speaker 1: when you're already getting I'm looking at you and you're
- 51:42Speaker 1: a current player and you're making all this kind of money.
- 51:44Speaker 1: I made this little bit of money when I was playing,
- 51:47Speaker 1: and the next thing I find out is is you're
- 51:49Speaker 1: you're in a gambling scheme.
- 51:51Speaker 2: Why am I?
- 51:52Speaker 4: Like, that's a tough pill.
- 51:54Speaker 1: Yeah, this is one of those deals like morals, ethic,
- 51:57Speaker 1: sanctity of the game versus capitalism. So how was it
- 52:02Speaker 1: so you went to Minnesota this week?
- 52:03Speaker 2: How was it this weekend? It was?
- 52:06Speaker 1: It was actually it was really good. It was cold, man,
- 52:10Speaker 1: it was cold. We we went we went maybe like
- 52:13Speaker 1: about five or six different places we go to like
- 52:16Speaker 1: little sports bars and stuff.
- 52:18Speaker 2: Like that, and and.
- 52:19Speaker 1: And sign and and and the best thing about it
- 52:23Speaker 1: is like a lot of these folks are probably never
- 52:27Speaker 1: They're never going to be have an opportunity to maybe
- 52:31Speaker 1: go to a game or meet a player. And so
- 52:36Speaker 1: so when you're going, are you going to Minneapolis? Are
- 52:38Speaker 1: you going to just traveling the state?
- 52:40Speaker 2: We're out. Yeah, we're out.
- 52:41Speaker 1: We're we're probably at We went about an hour and
- 52:44Speaker 1: a half, I think was the furthest trip outside of Minneapolis.
- 52:46Speaker 1: We took an hour and a half and we stayed.
- 52:48Speaker 1: We stayed to night and shoot, I can't even remember
- 52:53Speaker 1: the town. But and these are like towns that like
- 52:56Speaker 1: I didn't even know the names of them when I
- 52:59Speaker 1: was there.
- 52:59Speaker 2: That's cool. But man, the fan base is so there.
- 53:05Speaker 1: It's it's it makes you feel good because like they're
- 53:08Speaker 1: they're going crazy, like I mean, you know, they're and
- 53:13Speaker 1: the biggest guy, Tommy Kramer, who is is he's really
- 53:18Speaker 1: slow now you know he's you know, he doesn't drink anymore.
- 53:23Speaker 1: He may drink some non alcoholic beer, but he's like
- 53:27Speaker 1: everybody wants his signature.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Everybody.
- 53:31Speaker 1: If you're standing there and you've got one pitcher left
- 53:35Speaker 1: and Tommy's got a line of one hundred people, they're
- 53:38Speaker 1: gonna be the one hundred and one person.
- 53:40Speaker 2: And and they just and they just they just love him,
- 53:45Speaker 2: and and I.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Feel I feel like I feel bad because I don't
- 53:49Speaker 1: know if he even can he's he's even able to
- 53:53Speaker 1: appreciate it when you're out there like that.
- 53:56Speaker 4: You know, do you guys end up at the game
- 53:58Speaker 4: on Sunday?
- 53:59Speaker 2: We No, we didn't get to the game this.
- 54:01Speaker 4: You didn't get to see the Bears beat the.
- 54:03Speaker 1: Viking Sunday, So so this will Can we make sure
- 54:10Speaker 1: this is Lista's last show?
- 54:13Speaker 4: Get my pink slip ready as usual? They have a
- 54:16Speaker 4: stock there, Carl. They just handed to me when I
- 54:19Speaker 4: walk out the door.
- 54:21Speaker 2: This is this is your last show? For sure.
- 54:24Speaker 1: It was that was a that was really like and
- 54:27Speaker 1: we didn't watch like we weren't like in depth into it,
- 54:29Speaker 1: but we got it down.
- 54:32Speaker 2: When you get down to the end of the game.
- 54:33Speaker 1: It's like, how do we how do you how do
- 54:36Speaker 1: you lose that, and then what and then what here's
- 54:38Speaker 1: the here's the benefit of being like a former player.
- 54:42Speaker 1: I'm sure, I'm one hundred percent sure we've lost games
- 54:44Speaker 1: like that, right, yeah, but I can't understand why they're
- 54:48Speaker 1: losing them like that. Now you know it's because the
- 54:52Speaker 1: exactly yeah, I mean.
- 54:55Speaker 4: And and.
- 54:58Speaker 1: Keith Mallard is a guy that you know, a lot
- 55:01Speaker 1: of people might not know his name, but he he
- 55:05Speaker 1: he comes, and he's a he's probably like about six
- 55:10Speaker 1: five and probably right now he's probably about to forty
- 55:16Speaker 1: or whatever. He was Defensive Player of the Year. I
- 55:19Speaker 1: think he was a runner up another year after in
- 55:23Speaker 1: between that, and he was one of the best pass
- 55:29Speaker 1: rushers that we had had that we had had, especially
- 55:32Speaker 1: as an inside guy.
- 55:35Speaker 2: And the crazy thing about him is like he is.
- 55:37Speaker 1: So if somebody hears this, they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll
- 55:44Speaker 1: think differently.
- 55:45Speaker 2: But he's like.
- 55:46Speaker 1: He's so cool and calm and collective. But he like
- 55:50Speaker 1: he has his temper.
- 55:51Speaker 4: Is like short, short, like like doesn't take it.
- 55:56Speaker 1: Doesn't take much. Like he like, man, let's just go,
- 55:59Speaker 1: let's why we got to still be here. But he
- 56:02Speaker 1: is like the like the really like the greatest dude
- 56:05Speaker 1: that that I think, like that maybe that I played
- 56:09Speaker 1: with And when it comes to like he's not coming
- 56:13Speaker 1: to Minnesota if guys that he likes are not coming,
- 56:17Speaker 1: regardless of what you're paying, he ain't coming. He ain't
- 56:20Speaker 1: getting on the plane. He's checking to see you know
- 56:23Speaker 1: who's here. Yeah, he has never And the crazy thing
- 56:27Speaker 1: about it, he's never lost that true quote teammate thing,
- 56:33Speaker 1: that loyalty to your teammate. I mean, that's that is
- 56:38Speaker 1: that's embedded in him today. Yeah, you know, and and
- 56:43Speaker 1: I wish I had that. But I love him, you know,
- 56:46Speaker 1: just because like you know, it's kind of that deal
- 56:49Speaker 1: like where you can see and appreciate somebody who loves you.
- 56:53Speaker 2: He would, he would, he would do anything to protect you. Wow.
- 56:58Speaker 4: You know, And maybe that's what the game needs right now,
- 57:01Speaker 4: you know, just overall, just a little bit of love.
- 57:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:05Speaker 1: Again, and to your point, Lisa, I don't really know
- 57:09Speaker 1: if the league, if players build that relationship like old days.
- 57:16Speaker 1: You know they do, man, you think they do. I
- 57:19Speaker 1: would hope, you know what I'm saying. Again, we don't know,
- 57:21Speaker 1: but we've seen the good teams. You look at the
- 57:24Speaker 1: you know, the ravens, look at the Chief, look at
- 57:26Speaker 1: the Bill. They seem to have a synergy amongst them.
- 57:29Speaker 1: And when you have those guys who sort of step
- 57:31Speaker 1: out of line, they figure out a way to get
- 57:33Speaker 1: rid of these guys quick. So I hope that's still
- 57:35Speaker 1: the case because I think that, you know, we need,
- 57:38Speaker 1: we have to do whatever we can do to just
- 57:40Speaker 1: hold onto some semblance of you know, just that traditional
- 57:46Speaker 1: sporting thing like where these guys can capture a piece
- 57:49Speaker 1: of our imagination and we can just sort of live
- 57:52Speaker 1: vicariously through them as they you know, their career. And
- 57:56Speaker 1: to that, I think to show the younger general of
- 58:01Speaker 1: what teamwork looks like, what role models are supposed to be,
- 58:06Speaker 1: you know, all of those kinds of things. I think
- 58:08Speaker 1: it is really I think it's hard to do that now, man,
- 58:11Speaker 1: because you're just so overexposed about everything. Like I think
- 58:15Speaker 1: a part of like that role model part of that,
- 58:18Speaker 1: you know, if you look at Michael Jordan's that mystique,
- 58:21Speaker 1: right you see him on a commercial may seem in
- 58:23Speaker 1: a movie, but you're not seeing him like every day.
- 58:25Speaker 2: You're not liked g all the time.
- 58:28Speaker 1: And I think sometimes the more these guys talk, the
- 58:30Speaker 1: more you're just like, geez, you know that, stop talking?
- 58:37Speaker 2: You know. Yeah, well.
- 58:41Speaker 1: I'll say and I don't want to like to throw
- 58:44Speaker 1: throw mud on current players, but we were always kind
- 58:51Speaker 1: of taught, like even in an interview. So if I'm
- 58:53Speaker 1: having an interview after the game and I let's say
- 58:55Speaker 1: I get a game winning interception, DA, what's my conversation about.
- 59:00Speaker 2: It's about the d lineman.
- 59:01Speaker 1: You know, how they had been put put pressure on him,
- 59:04Speaker 1: you know, and that that forced that quarterback to not
- 59:08Speaker 1: it was never going to be about your yourself. And
- 59:11Speaker 1: I don't know if coaches coach that or teach that,
- 59:14Speaker 1: or players get that or understand that, because I think
- 59:18Speaker 1: it's I think it is really now a truly individualized
- 59:22Speaker 1: if I'm the star, if I think I'm the best
- 59:24Speaker 1: player on that team. Because I don't think you were
- 59:26Speaker 1: concerned about the personal brand of Carl Lee. No, I
- 59:30Speaker 1: don't think that was the fourth thought. I think for
- 59:34Speaker 1: some guys it was, but it was everything. I think
- 59:37Speaker 1: it happened to them. They understood like they like it.
- 59:41Speaker 1: It was put on them. A guy like Anthony Carter
- 59:44Speaker 1: a se you know, he his legacy was was was
- 59:48Speaker 1: given to him. He didn't want it, and he didn't.
- 59:50Speaker 2: Live up to.
- 59:50Speaker 1: What I'm saying is that even though got like a
- 59:52Speaker 1: guy now in the NFL, you don't have to be
- 59:54Speaker 1: a superstar in order to attract an audience. So like,
- 59:58Speaker 1: if I have the opportunity to have the mic and
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: I say something salacious or outrageous, then ask people want
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: to be checking my ig and protecting my social media.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: So yeah, so it's like I can build a.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: Personal brand and I don't have to be like the
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: biggest thing out or the nicest guy. I don't got
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: to be the nicest guy. I can build on. However,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: I want to build it, and if I can get attention,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: that's good enough for me.
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: For some guys, bro anything else.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: Yeah. All right, well, ladies and gentlemen, we're gonna get
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: out of here and we will see you again next week.
