- 0:00So yeah that that first pilot with Ross in the beginning, and then of
- 0:05course Maria Hill at the end, it was downhill and I did not mean
- 0:09that to be a pun. Hello and welcome to May the Review be with
- 0:33you with Nick and Joe. I'm Joe, I'm Nick, and today we
- 0:38are talking about the long anticipated finale two, Secret Invasion. Oh yeah,
- 0:48no, that's that's that's about right. We covered the beginning of Secret Invasion,
- 0:53uh a couple of months ago, and there's been some time since the
- 0:56finale has come out, and you and I have had time to really digest
- 1:02it, rewatch it and see how we feel about it again. Before we
- 1:07get into the finale itself, quick recap on how did you feel about the
- 1:12beginning of this show? I was into it at the first the first the
- 1:19first half. I enjoyed it. I thought there were some sad or like
- 1:23disappointing directional choices, like with like Maria Hill being being killed off and all
- 1:29that, but I was and it was a little weird with how like,
- 1:34you know, shocked Fury was with being a spy again, basically because he's
- 1:38been in space for so long and he just like he's been you know the
- 1:42first half he was completely like off his game, and you can make a
- 1:45case that he was off his game the whole time. But so that was
- 1:49a little weird. And we also got the whole reveal that he was married,
- 1:53which like is still super weird to me. Like, and they like
- 1:56really hammered home in this last episode, like how deeply married and I love
- 2:00he was like out of basically nowhere. So but overall I was I was
- 2:07like, Okay, this is fun. It was enjoyable. The first half
- 2:10I didn't like. I wasn't like, no against like any of the choices
- 2:15I guess they had made. Yeah, how about you? The first episode
- 2:23I thought was really interesting. I think a lot of these Marvel shows,
- 2:25like even the ones that like don't maybe stand the test of time or ultimately
- 2:31don't stick the landing, I think all of them have a solid pilot.
- 2:38I can't really think of one, even the ones that I don't like all
- 2:40that much, I can't think of a single one that has a bad pilot.
- 2:46So yeah, that that first pilot with Ross in the beginning and then
- 2:51of course Maria Hill at the end really interesting. And then honestly, from
- 2:57that point on it just kind of felt like it was downhill and I did
- 3:01not mean that to be a pun. Uh oh, well, miss call
- 3:15me smoulders or that's the worst part of the show is smoulders. Yeah,
- 3:23what a waste. Yeah, but uh yeah, I was hoping that maybe,
- 3:30hey, maybe they'll do something and it'll stick. The landing here because
- 3:34this this doesn't feel It felt lost most of the time, and not like
- 3:39in a good way like the way lost was, but like this legitimately felt
- 3:43like it didn't know where it was going. I can't stop monster. This
- 3:52is not good. I am the super putt. Well, yeah, you're
- 3:57right about feeling lost the whole time. I'm just looking at my notes right
- 4:00now. I'm just gonna word vomit a bunch of thoughts fury, like being
- 4:08married and then it being conveniently to a scroll this whole time. It's like
- 4:13a leap of faith that we're supposed to just be accepting of which I'm just
- 4:16like okay. And then they like overdid it on the love story in the
- 4:20last episode. In my opinion, wait, quick question about that, so
- 4:25like, so there's something about that story that legitimately confused me. He didn't
- 4:30know that she was a scroll, right, No, he did. He
- 4:32did know, okay, but he wasn't aware that, like she was working
- 4:36for Graphic at one point, but then she had like a change of heart.
- 4:40No, I think he found out that she was like a secret agent
- 4:43of Gravic, like during this show. He found out about that around the
- 4:47same time that she realized that, like even though she's a secret agent of
- 4:53Gravic, like she's not going to betray him. She's to like because I
- 4:56think there was still a point when Gravic was the leader before he really like
- 5:00took control and then went a little bit more crazy, right. I think
- 5:03there was like a transition even in the show where you're like, Okay,
- 5:06this is getting more serious and now the people who are following him really need
- 5:10to make a decision and if they're going to continue. And I think that
- 5:12that happened kind of simultaneously, which is like a pointless plot point for them
- 5:16to have even introduced, because it was so like it had no bearing really
- 5:20on any parts of the episode. There might have been like an episode ending
- 5:24before the next episode where you were supposed to be like, oh no,
- 5:27who's she going to choose or something, but it was like non it was
- 5:31like a non issue really, but they still like made you think about it,
- 5:35which like felt pointless. You know, they could have skipped that and
- 5:39just had her as. I don't know that answers your question, but it
- 5:44was like you said it was, it was confusing and it was not interesting.
- 5:49My biggest problem to you was like the harvest weapon that we find out
- 5:53about like the last two episodes or whatever, maybe it was the third to
- 5:58lot the fourth episode. I forget exactly when we first hear about the harvest
- 6:00is what like Gravihic's really looking for. I think like the moment that Gravic
- 6:04like took the explode extremis the second he took that, like the second that
- 6:11he gave himself that power, I was like, okay, like now this
- 6:14is ridiculous. Like that's really when I started to lose that. The show
- 6:17started to lose me, because then at that point you transition from being like
- 6:21a show about spies, like because the thing that the show had going for
- 6:26was that it's supposed to be like a traditional kind of spy show, and
- 6:30you're gonna stop stop a invasion or a takeover like in a traditional spy way,
- 6:36is what I was hoping for. But then the second they gave Gravic,
- 6:42who was already technically a spy because he's able to transform and look human,
- 6:45right, Like for the other side, second you give him a superpower,
- 6:48it changes the whole thing. It's like not about spies anymore, it's
- 6:54about superpowers. This is like, so you just you just hit the nail
- 6:59on the head about my biggest problem with this show. And like why I
- 7:02say it's lost because, like you said, we're we're told that this is
- 7:09that Secret Invasion is going to be this spy thriller, right yeah, and
- 7:14right away. There's some skepticism about this because the original Secret Invasion, written
- 7:18by Brian Michael Bendis, which is a great story, is really interesting because
- 7:24it's a secret invasion among the superheroes, right, and you don't know who
- 7:30to trust, but like the superheroes are built into the story. You know,
- 7:33it's it's less of a spy thing and more of a superpowered who do
- 7:39you trust body stature thing? Right, And we're told we're not doing that,
- 7:44right, which I think most people think, Okay, well, we're
- 7:47probably not doing that because like Disney could do that, but like that costs
- 7:51a lot of money for this TV show to get all those stars involved,
- 7:55and we're not trying to do that kind of Avengers level threat for this,
- 8:00So we're just gonna make this a spy thing, which I think people were
- 8:03like, oh, it seems a little cheap, but okay, give us
- 8:07a spy thing, right, And then they didn't. Right, everyone loves
- 8:13Nick Fury too, and like yeah, it's like, oh, we're gonna
- 8:16get like a spy TV series with Fury, Like this is great. And
- 8:24then the last fifteen minutes of the show is a super is a superpowered beat
- 8:30down, which, like, I don't understand Gravic's plan because like the beginning
- 8:35of this, it seems like Gravia is pissed because the Scrolls don't have a
- 8:39home, right, right, and uh, he's he's trying to build a
- 8:45home on Earth and he's gonna do that by wiping out all of humanity.
- 8:48Right, He's going to allow them to kill each other with atomic weaponry.
- 8:52Okay, that part you're questionable, but like sort of makes sense. There
- 8:56there's a A and B logic that I get about it, right, But
- 9:01then you know there's this question about like why do you keep leaving Nick Fury
- 9:07alive, and you know, there's questions about who's he actually loyal to,
- 9:11and we the audience are led to believe, oh, well, maybe like
- 9:16it's because like he cares about Nick Fury or something, right, there's something
- 9:20there about why he's not killing him. But that's not it at all.
- 9:24And it turns out Gravic probably doesn't even actually give to any things about scrolls
- 9:31because he's willing to hold his host his own people hostage so that he can
- 9:37get what he actually wants out of Nick Fury, which is information on where
- 9:41the harvest is and I guess wants the power for what? Like why does
- 9:48he how does that aid the goal of finding the scrolls a home? Is
- 9:52that even his motivation anymore? He was willing to let them all die.
- 9:54I don't understand his character motivation at all. I have nothing else to add.
- 10:00Is like totally perfect. That was totally a perfect response to that character
- 10:03is like ridiculousness, Like no, no, it's on your on your sentence
- 10:09there, sir, It's so true. Like and then the and then the
- 10:13ending conversation with Fury, which ends up not being Fury obviously, Like even
- 10:20that conversation was infuriating, like you stop it, you stop it, like
- 10:26like what the hell are we what are we even talking about? Uh?
- 10:31Because like Fury is so weak compared to him. Granted it's not Fury,
- 10:37So then you find out, okay, well he was just but at some
- 10:39point, like that fight could have started at any moment, and then it
- 10:43starts when it it's just so stupid, and then she's already taken the harvest
- 10:50and they so they both take it. We just have a big harvest battle.
- 10:54How many of these damn vials of harvest are out there? So stupid?
- 10:58Also, like if you take the harvest like well, no, I
- 11:01think they got the harvest at the same time. I think that was the
- 11:03indication that, like they both get the powers at the same exact moment.
- 11:09At least that's what I took away from it. I don't know if that's
- 11:11actually true. No, I think she had already taken it at some point
- 11:16m and then he gave it to her, or she gave it to Fury,
- 11:20gave it to him to Graviic, But obviously it wasn't Fury it was
- 11:26I don't think that's it, because like, if that were the case,
- 11:28she could have just kicked his ass right from the get go, right,
- 11:30I mean, yes, that's correct, But he was handed to vile,
- 11:33which means he didn't have it before that. But we didn't see him take
- 11:37it either, I don't think, well, no, we do. It's
- 11:39when he turns on the machine that they're standing in, Like he takes the
- 11:45harvest, he puts it into it. They're both standing in the machine.
- 11:48She gets it at the same time. Sorry, you're complete, I like
- 11:52totally blanked about that scene. No, don't get that only makes it marginally
- 11:56better. It's still stupid, Like like is there a sense to it?
- 12:03Yeah, I guess, like if I had like action figures and I was
- 12:05six years old and I was looking for a reason for these two fight,
- 12:09but like, you know what doesn't make sense either, Like why would he
- 12:11let Fury stand in the circle? That's what I was thinking too. I
- 12:16was like, is there a presumption that this only works on scrolls? Like
- 12:20yeah, like why would you even take the chance? You know, like
- 12:26it doesn't work if you just kick him out? So dumb. While it
- 12:30was just like so dumb, it was like, you know what, I
- 12:33don't think I'll take that back. I don't think it was dumb. I
- 12:37could get on board with her like acting like Fury the whole time to try
- 12:43to get an upper hand, but then once she realizes that there's no way
- 12:46for her to get an upper hand except to just fight him, you know,
- 12:48then she eventually like breaks her cover. But the second the cover's broken
- 12:54by her turning into her left arm, turning into the Hulk and smashing him
- 12:58or whatever. It was so fun. It's so annoyingly. It's so annoying,
- 13:03and it's just like it's such a terrible creative decision to have this like
- 13:09hilarious battle where they're just like transforming their bodies into like Name and Avenger.
- 13:15Like. I hated it. I hated every second of that. It was
- 13:18awful. The CGI was like me, and I hate it even more because
- 13:24I just trashed the Flash on our one of our previous episodes for being terrible
- 13:30and then all of a sudden, like and I'm talking up the MCU for
- 13:35at least building characters and like trying to progress the MCU timeline, and then
- 13:41all of a sudden, like two weeks later, we get this awful ending
- 13:45to Secret Invasion with awful CGI and awful premise, and I'm just like,
- 13:50come on, guys, it honestly made the Flash look good. I don't
- 13:58know anything can make the flow, but it didn't make it worse. I
- 14:05only say this because like, at least the Flash had a premise and stuck
- 14:09with it. Whether or not that was the perpose they should have stuck with,
- 14:11I don't know, but this is what what about This is spy thriller.
- 14:18And also like we haven't gotten into the secondary or not the secondary,
- 14:24but the climax that's happening parallel to this one, which like also feels so
- 14:31forced. You know, there's this moment with Sonia and she's with Roady and
- 14:37the President. I think it's before Fury walks in. Yeah, and she's
- 14:43like, I can't prove that you know, he's he's scroll, like delay
- 14:50the order or whatever, right, and just you know, there's no harm
- 14:52in just waiting, which, like, to be fair, that's actually a
- 14:56good point, right. But the thing is, Sonya can prove that Rody
- 15:05is a scroll. Shoot him in the foot, like she discovered the previous
- 15:09episode, Like, oh look at that, Like if I stab you,
- 15:11your body can't stand, can't keep the transformation. Uh. She was by
- 15:16the way, the only character that I actually loved throughout this entire show.
- 15:20Her character, for sure. Yes, Olivia Colevin is a treasure, one
- 15:28of the best actresses in Hollywood. She's incredible. Yeah, so Sonya was
- 15:33a lot of fun. I still don't get Sonya. I don't understand what
- 15:37she is, who she is, especially in relation to Fury, Like,
- 15:41was she like a spy with like what is it, m I six,
- 15:46uh the British sex Yeah, spy with the Brits and like she just worked
- 15:52with Fury in the past. I guess, I don't know, but very
- 15:58quick. But yeah, that whole scene was just like I I enjoyed the
- 16:07scene in general, Like I liked the you can I liked the part about
- 16:15like you know, you could see Rowdy like slowly losing it because you could
- 16:19tell he was losing control of the situation. And you can tell that he
- 16:22wasn't acting like Rowdy as we think we know him would act in a high
- 16:29pressure situation. You could tell he was starting to feel the pressure about the
- 16:32scenario, which is not something that we were used to with that character in
- 16:36the entirety of the MCU. So I enjoyed like that aspect, and I
- 16:41did enjoy like the little spy aspect of like getting rid of the guards slowly
- 16:48to this final showed out and then of course the Fury reveal simultaneously. Basically,
- 16:53while we find out that Gaya is actually just transformed, wasn't as cool
- 17:00as they probably thought it would be because of how annoying the transformation of guy
- 17:03was. You know, it's just like, Okay, well then obviously Fury's
- 17:07in the hospital and I'm not happy about it because like that was so awful
- 17:11like with the transformation that I don't care now, but but yeah, that's
- 17:17very annoying that like she could shoot him in the foot and easily prove it,
- 17:19but instead they have this conversation where Fury's trying to like talk sense into
- 17:22the president. I've never felt, yea the same thought, like even know
- 17:36what else to say? Uh yeah, this came it that like at the
- 17:41worst time, I feel like for Marvel. Yeah yeah, like marvel Head
- 17:45has already faced like such a beat down from critics who are waiting for Marvel
- 17:52to like screw up and fail and not be on top, right, yeah,
- 17:55and this came it like the perfect time. So I don't know,
- 18:00man, I am. I'm far from the assumption that, uh, the
- 18:07era of the superhero is over. I don't believe that for a minute,
- 18:11especially with how well Guardians the Galaxy did. Yeah, but geez man,
- 18:17like, if you're gonna put something out there, I don't know, stand
- 18:22by it. That's what That's what it is. It felt like this was
- 18:26chopped up in a lot of ways and they just couldn't commit to an idea.
- 18:32Yeah, that's definitely a great, a great point. I don't It's
- 18:37just like who's like making the creative decisions across the board right now? You
- 18:44know, like it's still Kevin, Yeah, but it feels like there's someone
- 18:48else or there's maybe more of a push and pull within the organization because like,
- 18:53you know, the first couple phases, like it was really coherent and
- 18:57things. You know, they had it, they had it planned out so
- 19:00well that that you know, credit scenes were relating to each other perfectly,
- 19:04you know, and so I don't know this this Guardians. Guardians was so
- 19:12good too, and then like this is just like such like a disappointing.
- 19:18So to answer your question, I think because you know, if you recall
- 19:22like a lot of like I don't want to call them flops because most of
- 19:26them aren't about a lot of the properties that people have been like uncomfortable with
- 19:32in like the last couple of years were developed during COVID, you know,
- 19:38and and COVID really screwed up a lot of things. And for Marvel,
- 19:42the big thing that it screwed up was it's a it's production schedule and then
- 19:48b its release schedule. I forgot what the original order for the film and
- 19:55TV show releases were, but like a year into COVID, it got completely
- 19:59real raged. And I think that that's screwed up the way that we like
- 20:03received a lot of information about these stories, right and then also yeah,
- 20:10and then also I think it's screwed up like some of the production for these
- 20:12stories. You know, there was such a demand for more more shows.
- 20:17Yeah, you know, yeah, that's a good point. Also the very
- 20:22end right, so like the very the very end right, like they found
- 20:26out it's Roady Gaya kills Gravic uh scroll Roady dies Scrody screw damn. That's
- 20:40funny. Uh we find guya finds like all of the humans like underneath in
- 20:48the bait, like you know, who have been brain who've been trapped,
- 20:52one of them being the real Roady. And we find out that he's been
- 20:57there for a very long time. Again again they're not committing to anything on
- 21:03that, which we don't know how long. Yeah, but we we can
- 21:07assume it's after Civil War because it looked like he didn't have use of his
- 21:11legs. Oh, good point. I was wondering why he wasn't walking.
- 21:17I forgot about that. But but it also could be because he was in
- 21:22so long that he just doesn't have the motor function. So so technically,
- 21:30technically we don't know how long he's not been Roady. Well, one thing
- 21:34is for sure, that Roady that woke up has no clue about anything that
- 21:41happened like in the last like phase of the MCU. So he has no
- 21:45clue that Tony's dead, you know, Like I'm just I'm just putting that
- 21:48together, my Mike. Can you imagine if this is what you said,
- 21:52it's Civil War Roady right, like just after Civil War? Right, means
- 21:56he doesn't know about Thanos, he doesn't know about the blip, he doesn't
- 21:59know Tony. Right, and then of course the thing but then you like
- 22:04right, and then you and then and then you think back to those scenes,
- 22:08like when Tony's dying and you see like the interactions, and uh yeah,
- 22:15you're just like, did they really just like, did they really just
- 22:18like nix all of that emotion that they set up for years? I don't
- 22:22fucking secret Invasion? Are we kidding? Are we fucking kidding? Because that
- 22:29is such a that's a beautifully sad scene. So now anytime I watch end
- 22:32Game and I see that scene, I'm like, oh, yeah, but
- 22:34it's not really roady, So I guess it's bullshit had a good relationship with
- 22:41Tony two. It's so stupid, it's so it's so disappointing. I hope,
- 22:47I hope we get a definitive time eventually, and I hope it is
- 22:51after a game. But there's no way. There's no way it's after endgame
- 22:55based on how long he was in there, based on that statement, because
- 22:59they haven't been that long since endgame, I don't know. I don't know
- 23:03about that because so they keep there was something that they kept saying to Nick
- 23:10that bothered me because like, again, they weren't telling us how much time
- 23:12had gone by, because remember Fury's Fury got blipped, right and he he
- 23:19comes back, and everyone keeps saying like, oh, you haven't been the
- 23:23same since the blip Fury've never been the same. It's like, well,
- 23:29how much time has gone by, like because like it's only been like a
- 23:33year, Like, fuck off, maybe give him some time, Like,
- 23:36right, he didn't exist for five years. That's a lot. I'm trying
- 23:38to think back to the other TV shows and and and remember, like did
- 23:42they set up a distance of time between like Endgame and any of the TV
- 23:48shows? I know that Spider Man, well there's been two Spider Man since
- 23:56Endgame so well, so so that was a great one to bring up.
- 24:00Uh, because Spider Man actually does give you definitive time. So I can't
- 24:07remember when they take the euro trip exactly, but by the end of No
- 24:15Way Home, it's Christmas, right, He's he's swinging through New York and
- 24:22it's become Christmas time. I think the beginning of that movie is at around
- 24:25Halloween time, because like some time goes by after the trip, there's like
- 24:30a montage of people hating him. It's Halloween, and then by the end
- 24:33of the movie it's Christmas. So we know that six months to a year
- 24:37has gone by. Thanks to Spider Man. But other than that, I'm
- 24:42not sure. And then and then Captain Falcon, I'm waiting for you.
- 24:51You can do this, Captain Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I it,
- 24:56I know what. I just wanted to be Captain Falcon exactly. I honestly
- 25:04forget what they call that show America. Oh did they actually call it Captain
- 25:10America because he becomes a new Captain America. But oh, I know,
- 25:14I'm an idiot after I just mopped you. It's Falcon in the Winter Soldier.
- 25:18Thank you. Okay, I was at least right, but calling him
- 25:21Captain Falcons just funny because it's got those super Smash Bros vibes. But yeah,
- 25:26so but that show, I think we have to look back now.
- 25:29But I'm pretty sure they give us a timeline as well from the blip on
- 25:33that show, because like a lot of that show is is the flag smashers
- 25:37like being upset with how the governments have handled the situation, and there's a
- 25:42there's a there's a space of time that I think they try to establish.
- 25:48Of course, we don't know what that space of time is relative to Spider
- 25:53Man either, right, so those could be happening at the same time technically,
- 26:00but there's probably a nuance there. But either way, it's only probably
- 26:04maybe what a max of two years, I would say, so, so,
- 26:10like I guess that's a lot of time. Like if you're not moving
- 26:12your body for two years, you will lose function, right, So I
- 26:15guess there is a chance that it's after endgame that they get control of Roady.
- 26:23There's a chance, but like, like you said, like if I
- 26:26don't know the implication of a long time, I mean, two years could
- 26:30be under that, but like it does feel like it's longer than two years.
- 26:34But I swear they only chose that dialogue because they didn't have to commit
- 26:38to a number, you know. Right. One other thing was the was
- 26:42the vigilante thing at the end, right when the president like makes this like
- 26:45really crazy statement about how like any any foreign invaders are like against us,
- 26:52like blah blah blah, like we're coming for you, we know where you
- 26:55are, and then like vigilantes start like killing scrolls who are undercover, and
- 26:59then they start accidentally killing real people because they have no freaking clue, and
- 27:03I'm just like, Okay, now we're just setting up like complete civil war
- 27:07situation, like actual civil war, you know, not like civil war within
- 27:10the Avengers, and like, I don't know, it's just I get that
- 27:15that's a response from a president after getting kidnapped by a foreign invader, but
- 27:18like you were also saved by you were you were like spies who have knowledge
- 27:30of the foreign invaders, like in a complete way so that they know that
- 27:36like not all of the foreign invaders are actually bad. So like, I
- 27:38don't know, just felt like the president got like unhinged there at the end,
- 27:44you know, like it just felt a little bit like, eh,
- 27:47like yeah, too much, shouldn't quite see the leap was like why is
- 27:51all of a sudden he's just crazy now, like right, it's not like
- 27:55I mean, he already was kind of getting annoyed with Roady earlier in the
- 27:59show, so yeah, he felt like he just can't trust anyone, so
- 28:04he's just like doing his own genocide thing and like what or he's a scroll,
- 28:12you know what I mean, And he's just trying to like like we
- 28:15didn't consider that, like he could be a scroll. He's just like killing
- 28:21Yeah I didn't. I didn't like it. I think it's my least favorite
- 28:25TV show so far actually, which is cool. Least favorite Marvel thing.
- 28:30Wow, yeah, that's wild. Yeah, like this is what I would
- 28:34much rather watch. Thro The Dark World. Again, I do not like
- 28:40that movie. I think that movie is boring. But here's the thing.
- 28:42That movie also has Tom Hillston in it, and Tom Middleston is always entertaining.
- 28:48He crushes that. Yeah that's true. Does that's true? Wow?
- 28:52Man? Thor Dark World is probably I think I've only seen that one twice
- 28:55and I've seen everything else from Marvel many more times. That's hilarious. There's
- 28:59a reason, right, Yeah, definitely see if your invasion No. Bottom
- 29:03of the list from marvelgo. So, like this score is gonna be pretty
- 29:06pretty brutal. No, I'm very excited to hear what you're gonna say.
- 29:08But before we get there, I wanted to address a couple things. So
- 29:17the first is what you brought up about, like the vigilante stuff toward the
- 29:19end with everybody like just going psycho and killing everything. It would have been
- 29:25interesting, by the way, if they could have worked in the Flagsmasters somehow,
- 29:29you know, like the flag smash's being like we're right along like something
- 29:36that would a neat way to tie in another show, yea, but like
- 29:40it was, it was especially strange to see this and then one other thing.
- 29:47So Sonya and Guya meet up toward the end of this story, and
- 29:55we find out in their interaction that they're going to be working together and are
- 30:00gonna, you know, in Sonya's own words, you will use me,
- 30:03I will use you. We will not make the same mistakes of Tallos and
- 30:07Fury, of love and friendship. This will be not right. Which if
- 30:15that's the end of the show, weird, But okay, fine, that
- 30:18appears to be what the president is preaching as well. At least that's consistent.
- 30:25But then you have and I don't know if this is on purpose or
- 30:29just like a lack of oversight. I don't know, Like if it's on
- 30:32purpose, I don't get the point. You have Fury and Priscilla, which
- 30:37that's her birth name, like Vera I think is her name. No,
- 30:41I think that's guy's name. I can't remember her scroll name anyway. You
- 30:45know, before they have their X files image of them going into the light.
- 30:52Right before that, there's this confession of love no matter what your skin
- 31:00is right, and it just felt like a really conflicting message given what we
- 31:06just saw from Sonia in just specifically calling out Fury for having too much love,
- 31:14right, and I guess saying that that is what led to the downfall
- 31:18of the relationship, which is again a very strange premise, and everything with
- 31:25Priscilla just feels so shoehorned. I don't get short forced and it correct me
- 31:30if I'm wrong, but didn't. Like they were having that conversation by the
- 31:33ship and like Priscilla's like, no, I have to stay here, and
- 31:37then Fury like it makes a good point on why she wants to stay on
- 31:41Earth, but then Fury talks to her and then she decides to go with
- 31:45him. Yeah, that's just like totally dumb, right right, It was
- 31:49like why why, why? Why bother With a couple of minutes, like
- 31:52just decided she has to stay because like of her work, and her work's
- 31:59there been more important. It's like, what do you do? What's your
- 32:01work? What don't you know anything about you? And then Fury is like,
- 32:06yeah, you're one of the best political minds or whatever he says.
- 32:09What does he called? I don't remember what he what. I'm like,
- 32:12wait, since when like she like until now we thought she was just a
- 32:17housewife like as cover, Like, what do you mean she's like one of
- 32:22the most important minds of the whatever. This is so stupid character do makes
- 32:29absolutely no sense. Last thing. I want to bring up last thing,
- 32:37and this is a thought I had after watching it for the second time.
- 32:42This by no means saves this show for me. I just think it's an
- 32:45interesting idea. So we get to the end of this and as you and
- 32:50I have pointed out, it's it's it's weird that the end of the show
- 32:53has things as destabilized as they are and hasn't really fixed of problems, which
- 33:01I mean not every Marvel show has, right. I think the end of
- 33:05Wanda Vision leaves things destabilized, but in a self contained way, you know
- 33:12where I can watch that show and be like, yes, this was a
- 33:15proper ending, even though things are not great, whereas this show absolutely not.
- 33:22But that got me thinking because of something specifically that Fury says, which
- 33:25again this comes out of nowhere. Fury says that the not the Scrolls,
- 33:31the Cree are willing to make peace talks with the Scrolls and possibly find them
- 33:40a world, which two quick things about that. I love the conversation with
- 33:47fake fury and graphic and he's like, I knew, after searching for a
- 33:52home for you that there was no planet I could find that would be suitable
- 33:57for you. And I was like, really, the whole you race you
- 34:00couldn't find one planet. Wow. I'm like, Captain Marvel's been gone for
- 34:06a long time. Are you sure? All right? Are you sure about
- 34:09that? All right? But then at the very end, and then at
- 34:13the very end when he's like, decree are gonna make peace, I'm like,
- 34:16oh, now they're gonna make peace. Wait. I was like,
- 34:20I'm sorry, why haven't we talked about that before? That seemed important?
- 34:23And since when did the Cree seem like they were gonna make peace? They
- 34:29were ready for genocide earlier? We've missed something. But anyway, okay,
- 34:36so that's happening right, And he says there are peace negotiations going on.
- 34:39This gets me thinking, oh, I wonder if that's a lead in to
- 34:45the Marvels and I because like, the thing that's stuck with me was like
- 34:50the way that they are leaving this show with the planet so destabilized. This
- 34:54feels like the sort of thing that you can't just ignore in your other marvel
- 35:00properties, Like this is something that sticks around, right, right, So,
- 35:05like is this something that's going to be important for the Marvels or is
- 35:08this something that sticks around until Secret Wars? And if so, how does
- 35:15this how does the Scrolls impact that? Yeah, this just feels like this
- 35:19is such a big plot thread that probably will not be addressed. Yeah,
- 35:23I imagine it's someone addressed in The Marvels because obviously that's the next thing that
- 35:29we know that Fury is going to be in, and we've seen a trailer
- 35:32for that already. But like, they've just like done such a poor job
- 35:38of whatever they're trying to get to with this series that I'm actually like a
- 35:45little bit scared for how The Marvels is going to be because I actually like
- 35:50all three of those characters. I think they've done a really cool job with
- 35:52building those characters, you know, like Maria Rambow and obviously Captain Marvel and
- 36:01then Missus Marvel. Like, but now, like if this show is supposed
- 36:07to lead into that, I'm a little bit worried about what the hell the
- 36:09show is going to actually be about, or the movie's gonna actually be about.
- 36:15It's like I'm actually excited for it, but not after the setup that
- 36:19they've just done here. I don't know, we'll see I hope so man,
- 36:25Uh, the Breelars didn't deserve some love. Captain Marvel deserves some love.
- 36:30Yeah. I really hope that that movie sticks to landing well, which
- 36:34is crazy. We haven't had another Captain Marvel movie. It's been only three
- 36:38years, four years. I don't even know when that last one came out.
- 36:40Longer than that two thousand, twenty seventeen, Holy crap, is it
- 36:47five years? Let me look, I'm looking it up. Or is it
- 36:52like early twenty eighteen? Maybe? No, okay, twenty nineteen Captain Marble,
- 36:57so four years? Yeah? Wow. But the funny part about nineteen
- 37:02endgame yeah, oh, I did not realize that. But that's the funny
- 37:12part about Captain Marvel is it came out in twenty nineteen. But the chronological
- 37:15order of Captain Marvel is the second MCU film, right right, because Captain
- 37:24America is start technically first, right, it's Captain America then Captain Marvel is
- 37:29how the chronological order goes, if I'm not mistaken, which makes it even
- 37:31longer, since which makes it even longer, since it's technically been a Captain
- 37:36Marvel film, right like that, like since like Captain Marvel has been like,
- 37:39you know, chronologically like a in the MCU, it's like it's Captain
- 37:45Marvel a shit ton of time, end game, and then like a shit
- 37:51ton of more time, not as much as the first ship ton, but
- 37:54you know, like a half a shit ton, and now like we're getting
- 37:58another movie. It's just like, yeah, it's it's exhausting. It is
- 38:06exhausting, all right. I think I think we're scraped the bottom of this
- 38:12barrel. Before I throughout my score, I do want to say a couple
- 38:16of positives. As I mentioned before, Olivia coleman Sonya was wonderful. I
- 38:22would easily watch another show with her. I also want to I think performances
- 38:29across the board were pretty okay. Obviously, Olivia Coleman's was a standout.
- 38:34Even though I don't like Gravik's character. I think Kingsley ben Adder was really
- 38:39good as him. I found his performance pretty compelling most of the time,
- 38:47and I'm glad that he was at least in Barbie, which was a huge
- 38:52success, because he deserves to be in a successful property. H Amelia Clark
- 39:00was buying serviceable. I didn't think she was a big standout, but I
- 39:05liked her in it, and I was excited that she was going to be
- 39:07in the m CU. But now I'm excited at all because she's like the
- 39:10strongest one all of a sudden, Like you know, it's like so weird,
- 39:14it's so dumb. Yeah, she just has all the powers. I
- 39:19don't like it. I don't like Ip has ghost powers for some reason.
- 39:23I hope that, Uh well, yeah, what the fuck? Yeah right,
- 39:29like that's a character we haven't like. I don't even we're not getting
- 39:32into this. We're not doing that today. That's not happening. We're moving,
- 39:36we're ignoring that, we're gonna we're not even gonna into that. Man,
- 39:38we should do an episode of holes. We should do that. That's
- 39:43a great call. That's definitely what our next episode should because I think we
- 39:45have a while until we have something else to talk about MCU wise, Okay,
- 39:51I have to check back and see what's next. But oh, Loki's
- 39:53next in a month, two months. Yay. That I'm stoked for.
- 39:59I can't freaking wait for them. I'm so excited for Lucky anyway. Uh
- 40:07but yeah, it's just like so dumb that she's like the strongest avenger.
- 40:10Now what are we doing? Man? But I but I was, and
- 40:16it's disappointing because I was like super stoked familiar Clark to be part of the
- 40:20MCU, And I'm like, eh, I assume that the Harvest isn't.
- 40:25I assume that like it wears off, but like that also seems I hope
- 40:31it does, but it also is dumb if it does. You know,
- 40:35it's like it's like a catch twenty two kind of like, yeah, I
- 40:37hope it wears off. It probably wears off, and if it doesn't wear
- 40:44off, it's dumb. But if it does wear off, it's also dumb.
- 40:47It's just dumb, you know, it's just so dumb. So yeah,
- 40:52hopefully they take the wearing off. Hopefully it wears off. Dumb,
- 40:55you know, it's one of those. Oh but then I leaves the door
- 41:00open for them to bring it back anytime they want, which is mega dumb.
- 41:05I mean, listen, let it fade, you know, like the
- 41:08less staying power this show has, the better. Yeah. That's that's rough.
- 41:14That's the point. This was a rough one. All right. I
- 41:15don't know what I'm going to clip for YouTube on this. It's just that's
- 41:21going, yeah, and then you're finishing with it's so exhausting. That's yeah.
- 41:37That's how you sum up episode six of Secret Invasion. All Right,
- 41:43Figured Invasion scores one through ten. What is your score? This is the
- 41:49lowest score I've ever given on a percentage standpoint for any thing we've ever well,
- 41:55actually, no shit, I have to look back at my Flash review
- 41:59and compare that percentage wise to add a five with an out of ten.
- 42:06I don't think I can. I don't remember what my Flash score was.
- 42:08So this is gonna be the lowest TV show I've ever scored, for sure,
- 42:12and I honestly my brain's going to like three and a half. But
- 42:17I'm gonna go with a four point five out of ten. That's what I'm
- 42:22gonna give it. Okay, not that's it's pretty bad. I'm giving it
- 42:29a two. My oh my god, I'm giving it a to This will
- 42:34be the lowest thing I probably ever grade. Nick I needed this. I
- 42:38didn't even want to watch the finale, oh my gosh. Honestly, honestly,
- 42:43like if I could, if I didn't enjoy Olivia Coleman, so much.
- 42:47I would probably give it a one. She saves it by one point.
- 42:52There's just so much to dislike about this show and just not enough reason
- 42:57for me to ever come back. Yeah, go at least for thor Dark
- 43:05World again. Uh, Tom hitdlesin. But also like it has like continuity
- 43:10into other Marvel properties, whereas like this, this kind of feels like no
- 43:15one will ever talk about this again. And I'm okay with it. Yeah,
- 43:22I mean, look, nothing you're saying is wrong. I agree with
- 43:24everything you're saying. My score was also the lowest I've ever given, but
- 43:28like you know, to a tennis I wanted it to be brutal. That's
- 43:34they brutalized me. They brutalized Also they killed Maria Hill. Yeah that was
- 43:38not okay. I can't change my score because scores are final once they're set
- 43:43out loud. But you've convinced me that I should have gotten lower alrighty Uh,
- 43:52that will do it. Bron's on I was like sixth Secret Invasion.
- 43:57We'll be back with more reviews for you soon, but until then, may
- 44:01the review be with you. Mm hmm
