A training company called Prime Intellect just raised 130 million dollars, at a valuation near a billion, to sell something far less glamorous than a faster computer: a trustworthy way to tell an AI agent whether it did the job well. For two years the hard problem in training AI looked like a computing problem. That problem is basically solved; computers are for rent from a dozen vendors.
