- 0:13Speaker 1: First Light Go farther, stay longer, and now your hosts,
- 0:18Speaker 1: Casey Smith and Tyler Jones.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Welcome to rtfresh Radio. I'm your host k Cy Smith.
- 0:24Speaker 2: The October lawl and the Acorns are making things tough
- 0:29Speaker 2: around the country with some weird weather thrown in there
- 0:31Speaker 2: as well. However, man made food sources seem to be
- 0:35Speaker 2: the ticket this late October for killing big giant bucks.
- 0:39Speaker 3: This is Retfresh.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 0:48Speaker 4: Welcome to Retfresh Radio. I'm your host, Tyler Jones and
- 0:52Speaker 4: I'm sitting next to Casey Smith. This podcast is brought
- 0:55Speaker 4: to you by First Light, and these two guys are
- 0:57Speaker 4: brought to you by the Nebraska Furniture Remark couch Man
- 1:01Speaker 4: bringing it back.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yeah that's cool.
- 1:04Speaker 4: So here we are sitting on the couch looking at
- 1:06Speaker 4: a front rolling in Casey. The front has some moisture
- 1:11Speaker 4: in it, maybe some lower temps, but I think more
- 1:15Speaker 4: than anything, we're going to see those lower tips hitting
- 1:17Speaker 4: later this week. And there's a lot of anticipation, it
- 1:22Speaker 4: seems like, across the country about what's going to happen
- 1:24Speaker 4: with this this drop, and you know, as usual, the
- 1:28Speaker 4: front's going to hit different points of the country at
- 1:30Speaker 4: different times throughout the week here. But I think it's
- 1:34Speaker 4: something that is to be noted that there are a
- 1:37Speaker 4: lot of people right now that need to be getting
- 1:39Speaker 4: on a weather app and checking out when things drop
- 1:42Speaker 4: and figuring out via on X or whoever they use,
- 1:46Speaker 4: where is a place that I can hunt a north wind.
- 1:48Speaker 2: That's exactly right, figure out what your north wind stand is,
- 1:51Speaker 2: and get there because it is coming in from the
- 1:53Speaker 2: north northwest. By the way, after the first front day
- 1:59Speaker 2: oftentimes you get to northeast, So just keep that in mind.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I like those northeast because it's like the second day
- 2:04Speaker 2: and everything's like kind of chilled out pretty good. I'm
- 2:07Speaker 2: trying to capitalize on this this week. I'm headed up
- 2:09Speaker 2: north country from here go do a little hunting. And
- 2:13Speaker 2: we are actually both have been scrambling to increase our
- 2:20Speaker 2: personal on our own properties, our man made food sources
- 2:24Speaker 2: this week because in Texas food plots, you know, you
- 2:28Speaker 2: can watch some guys from up north or even in
- 2:30Speaker 2: the Midwest, you know, do the food plot thing and
- 2:33Speaker 2: it looks awesome and I love it, and we do
- 2:36Speaker 2: all that work down here, and then you end up
- 2:38Speaker 2: with just dirt because the rains don't come or the rain.
- 2:41Speaker 2: What happened in my house, at least I have poor soil,
- 2:44Speaker 2: very sandy soil. The rains came, germinated the seeds, and
- 2:48Speaker 2: then the oven turned on and cooked all those seeds.
- 2:51Speaker 4: So you have bread.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I have all these loaves of bread, and deer
- 2:54Speaker 2: don't eat them. So it's it's kind of like try
- 2:58Speaker 2: and try again down here. So we've been trying to
- 3:00Speaker 2: get some food plot stuff out in the ground. I've
- 3:03Speaker 2: got some cereal rye to put out cereal man, And
- 3:07Speaker 2: it seems as if a lot of people are having
- 3:11Speaker 2: success right now on those type of food plots. Yeah
- 3:14Speaker 2: so I.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Uh so I actually hunted, so we planted a similar time.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Uh and mina ended up coming up here. I've got
- 3:24Speaker 4: a little bit of wheat coming up. It's not that great,
- 3:27Speaker 4: but it's okay. And Michael and I have sat one
- 3:30Speaker 4: time back there and we had a group of pigs
- 3:32Speaker 4: come in and it sounded like the cookie monster was
- 3:35Speaker 4: in the field. With they're just eating these little tiny
- 3:39Speaker 4: wheat sprouts, you know, and they were thin. It's like
- 3:42Speaker 4: it's for whatever it's worth. It's tasty enough that hogs
- 3:47Speaker 4: will take that big old mouth and eat like one
- 3:50Speaker 4: wisp of a week, you know, and at a time,
- 3:53Speaker 4: it's like it means enough to them. And I think
- 3:55Speaker 4: that deer feel the same way about it seems like it.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I just wonder what their little taste buds are like,
- 4:00Speaker 2: because I've eaten a lot of things in like just
- 4:03Speaker 2: little grass whips are just about as low as it
- 4:06Speaker 2: gets on the taste scale.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure, So it means over that.
- 4:12Speaker 2: But this past week or not this past week, but recently,
- 4:16Speaker 2: I also set a food plot on some public funny enough,
- 4:20Speaker 2: that was pretty much just brascas, which is the Northern
- 4:24Speaker 2: word for turnips. And oh, I thought you said Braskers. Yeah,
- 4:28Speaker 2: it wasn't Inbraskers, but it was. It was some purple
- 4:32Speaker 2: tops and some eyesicle radish. It looked like and uh,
- 4:37Speaker 2: I have never got to sit and watch deer just
- 4:39Speaker 2: do the thing and that, and it was very very cool.
- 4:43Speaker 2: It's it's it kind of gives you a little insight
- 4:45Speaker 2: in the way deer's minds work. They like don't stop moving,
- 4:49Speaker 2: even though they could just stand in one place and
- 4:52Speaker 2: eat it the whole time, but they just meander all
- 4:55Speaker 2: the way through that stuff.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Uh.
- 4:56Speaker 2: And I was just interested to see how they eat
- 4:59Speaker 2: that stuff too, because they don't like pull it up
- 5:04Speaker 2: and eat the whole green. They don't like pull it
- 5:07Speaker 2: up and eat the whole like tuber or whatever you
- 5:10Speaker 2: wanna call it, the whole root. They like bite the
- 5:14Speaker 2: top off and then chew like the stalk per portion
- 5:18Speaker 2: and don't eat the leaves and just throw it down
- 5:21Speaker 2: and then they'll go along. And you know, because they
- 5:24Speaker 2: don't only have teeth on.
- 5:24Speaker 4: The bok, this is a time of year thing where
- 5:26Speaker 4: they would do something different when it got colder or
- 5:28Speaker 4: something potentially.
- 5:29Speaker 2: But I don't know enough about this stuff, you know,
- 5:31Speaker 2: because we don't get the hunt them that often. But
- 5:32Speaker 2: it seems as if once it gets really cold, they
- 5:34Speaker 2: go to eating the turn it more from what I've heard, right,
- 5:39Speaker 2: but these deer would go around and take them bottom
- 5:42Speaker 2: teeth and scrape on the You can hear them just
- 5:47Speaker 2: on those turnips out there, scraping off shavings and eating
- 5:49Speaker 2: that basically eating dirt. Yeah basically, but that video actually
- 5:53Speaker 2: is going to come out on the Element YouTube channel
- 5:55Speaker 2: here pretty soon. And there was a big buck into
- 6:00Speaker 2: the turniplot when don't say that, but yeah, man, like
- 6:03Speaker 2: it's I kind of opened my eyes to the fact
- 6:05Speaker 2: that those things can be pretty bad because I feel like,
- 6:09Speaker 2: you never see you know, deer eating those things around here,
- 6:12Speaker 2: but I think they do. And I think it's just
- 6:14Speaker 2: hard to see the deer pressure on a field like
- 6:18Speaker 2: that because they just you look at it and you're like, oh,
- 6:20Speaker 2: nothing's eating that because it's all there still. Well, a
- 6:23Speaker 2: decent food plot has more food than the deer can eat,
- 6:25Speaker 2: you know.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Yeah, but yeah, anyways, it's, uh, it seems like, at
- 6:28Speaker 4: least from from my intel, that a lot of people
- 6:31Speaker 4: right now are really preferring that green food source, even
- 6:35Speaker 4: over corn. Uh as far as like fuel corn, you know,
- 6:39Speaker 4: I guess you'd say, and it's it's it seems like
- 6:43Speaker 4: it's it's working.
- 6:44Speaker 2: It's for whatever reason. You know.
- 6:45Speaker 4: I've heard a lot of people in certain areas have
- 6:48Speaker 4: acrons like they've never seen I know for us around here,
- 6:52Speaker 4: we haven't seen just a ton even uh, you know,
- 6:55Speaker 4: the day I had pretty good success on public land
- 6:58Speaker 4: and didn't see hardly any acrons around there. There's a
- 7:00Speaker 4: few here and there, and I mean that's pretty ideal
- 7:03Speaker 4: where you know, you can you can really focus in
- 7:05Speaker 4: by the hot tree. Yeah, but it hasn't been just
- 7:09Speaker 4: it seemed like it's just been crazy around here. But
- 7:12Speaker 4: I guess if there's enough of them too for the deer,
- 7:14Speaker 4: then I mean there's certainly like ar trail cameras have
- 7:17Speaker 4: been slow the last week or two.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I feel like they have man real slow. And I
- 7:21Speaker 2: think that we have true cameras, you know, in different
- 7:25Speaker 2: parts of the country even and it's that way, so
- 7:28Speaker 2: there's some stuff going on. A lot of us need
- 7:29Speaker 2: a frost too. Is that frost will knocked down a
- 7:33Speaker 2: lot of that natural browse outside the acrons. You know,
- 7:35Speaker 2: it even rots some acrons if you get it cold enough.
- 7:38Speaker 2: But you started out talking about this cold front that's
- 7:42Speaker 2: coming in. This is like a white till high week
- 7:44Speaker 2: right now. I'm about to go hunt it. But I'm
- 7:47Speaker 2: a little torn, and I want your advice for everybody
- 7:50Speaker 2: here as well, because you've killed seven bucks already this year.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Actually it's not that many, but it's half that you
- 7:58Speaker 2: have laugh you've done some killing man, and congrats on that.
- 8:04Speaker 2: But and I've hunted with you a long time, and
- 8:07Speaker 2: I know that you think about this stuff very, very
- 8:11Speaker 2: strenuously and make some good decisions. All that to say,
- 8:15Speaker 2: we have a cold front rolling through. It's at a
- 8:18Speaker 2: good time of year, but it's actually not like top
- 8:21Speaker 2: notch rut dates. It's just on the cusp. Do you
- 8:25Speaker 2: treat it differently than a November sixth cold front, like
- 8:29Speaker 2: say October thirty, Like the thirtieth is like the heart
- 8:32Speaker 2: of the cold front right now? I think I think
- 8:35Speaker 2: you do what do you do different? I think I
- 8:38Speaker 2: still would be hunting two things, and it would be
- 8:43Speaker 2: more than likely I would hunt. And you know, when
- 8:46Speaker 2: you show up, the big part of when you show
- 8:49Speaker 2: up to a place is taking a little time to
- 8:51Speaker 2: understand what's going on. It's like it's like when you
- 8:54Speaker 2: get to a riverbed as a fly fisherman, you can
- 8:56Speaker 2: go to casting, or you can watch for rises, or
- 8:59Speaker 2: you can flip over rocks. I really try say that,
- 9:02Speaker 2: I really try to not have a fly tight on
- 9:04Speaker 2: whenever I go. I don't. I'm the worst dude.
- 9:07Speaker 4: I can't stand it. I'm like, I ain't flipping that
- 9:10Speaker 4: rock over like case do it.
- 9:11Speaker 3: But there are times of the year that you just
- 9:14Speaker 3: know having a hopper on is gonna work.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, so we're kind of time I like to fish.
- 9:18Speaker 2: We're kind of in that with with the sure coming
- 9:21Speaker 2: Markene right now is fly fish and talk to bitter.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Stop it is his part. Maybe it resonates. Yeah, no,
- 9:27Speaker 4: so I think that I guess what I'm saying is
- 9:32Speaker 4: outside of seeing what's what's under the rock or what
- 9:36Speaker 4: rises are happening right now in an area, I would
- 9:38Speaker 4: go into an area the first afternoon, I get there
- 9:40Speaker 4: without knowing anything, and I would either hunt a scrape
- 9:43Speaker 4: that I can find, or I would hunt deer very
- 9:48Speaker 4: similar to early season, just with the knowing that they're
- 9:52Speaker 4: going to move earlier. So essentially probably if you had
- 9:56Speaker 4: just if you could just pick exactly how it goes down,
- 9:59Speaker 4: you hunt, you know, one hundred yards from buck betting
- 10:03Speaker 4: or a betting area that typically will hold bucks right
- 10:07Speaker 4: and in between one hundred yards towards the food source
- 10:12Speaker 4: that they're going to destinate in that night. So, uh,
- 10:14Speaker 4: that's like ideal for me. Now if you're I mean,
- 10:19Speaker 4: I have an idea about the area you're going to
- 10:21Speaker 4: potentially and there may not be a great just food source,
- 10:25Speaker 4: and there may not be a great pattern of travel.
- 10:28Speaker 4: So I think in that case, definitely finding pinches and
- 10:31Speaker 4: stuff is gonna is going to still be okay, you know.
- 10:34Speaker 4: I mean, if you don't have the food source, you
- 10:36Speaker 4: don't have the betting nailed down, then it's gonna be okay.
- 10:39Speaker 4: I don't think. I think you can hunt them a
- 10:41Speaker 4: lot like a rud in a pinch or a funnel
- 10:43Speaker 4: and just hope that that deer funnels through there going
- 10:48Speaker 4: to food in one way or another, or going to
- 10:50Speaker 4: a scrape in one way or another. But I just
- 10:51Speaker 4: don't know if they're going to be just in a
- 10:53Speaker 4: in a zombie walk yet, you know.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. Here's my thoughts on it. My best
- 10:58Speaker 2: experience with this a cold front at this time is,
- 11:02Speaker 2: I believe twenty nineteen Iowa. Is that right? We were
- 11:07Speaker 2: up there? Yep, we had a cold front roll through,
- 11:11Speaker 2: I believe on the twenty eighth. Yeah, I think that's right.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Was the first day it came in. It was like
- 11:17Speaker 2: six inches of snow. We were freaking out. We didn't
- 11:19Speaker 2: know what we were doing.
- 11:20Speaker 5: You know.
- 11:20Speaker 2: It's so cold, but we saw deer frolicking, for one,
- 11:25Speaker 2: But they the bucks were very aggressive towards one another.
- 11:31Speaker 2: They might not have had like hot doze, but they
- 11:34Speaker 2: were definitely like working things out. And that's what I'm
- 11:37Speaker 2: going to try to capitalize on. I feel like my
- 11:39Speaker 2: rattling antlers are going to be a big things. A
- 11:41Speaker 2: good idea. I didn't even think about that. Yeah, that
- 11:44Speaker 2: is a good idea.
- 11:45Speaker 4: I mean, do you think that if you stuck a
- 11:47Speaker 4: buck decoy out somewhere it'd be a good idea?
- 11:49Speaker 2: I think so.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:50Speaker 2: In fact, I believe so. We've done Retfresh for a
- 11:54Speaker 2: few years and we've interviewed this person on our own
- 11:58Speaker 2: podcast a few times as well. But Michael Unsucker is
- 12:01Speaker 2: a big believer in buck decoy's this like last week
- 12:07Speaker 2: of October. Yeah, I've seen him do it quite a bit,
- 12:10Speaker 2: and so like, I think that that could definitely be
- 12:13Speaker 2: advantageous for a person for sure. Yeah. And you know
- 12:17Speaker 2: the reason I say is because Mike is a big
- 12:19Speaker 2: buck killer, So I believe when he says things.
- 12:22Speaker 4: I believe it. Yeah, Yeah, he is man.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah, he's not on rough Fresh this week, though I
- 12:26Speaker 2: believe he has been recently. Last week. Yeah, last week,
- 12:30Speaker 2: the days it gets all confusing east and said days
- 12:32Speaker 2: go by.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Yeah, man, what a classic song.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Oh so good feeling man Todd ribes, as you like
- 12:39Speaker 4: to say.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Who is on ret fresh this week? So we've got
- 12:44Speaker 2: our very own Steven Ranella. He's gonna give us a
- 12:47Speaker 2: report for the charge from Oklahoma just to I mean,
- 12:50Speaker 2: just a passionate white tail hunter. Yeah, I mean, just
- 12:53Speaker 2: absolutely much more important to him than you old there hunt.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I believe it, man. He definitely doesn't get to do
- 13:00Speaker 2: as often as you would like, but he he does
- 13:02Speaker 2: love to pursue America's most popular big game animal.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Yeah for sure. We've also got Chris b Up in Michigan. Right,
- 13:10Speaker 4: he's a good friend of ours from the past. Uh
- 13:13Speaker 4: not not the ghost of Christmas past or the ghost
- 13:16Speaker 4: to Christmas presents and come in and know me better, man,
- 13:18Speaker 4: Mister Sam Hogan, right, who's got a report from us
- 13:21Speaker 4: from Ohio. And then we also have Dave Skinner who's
- 13:26Speaker 4: just somehow is just always killing these bucks despite having
- 13:30Speaker 4: a beard that I don't know how he sees past
- 13:32Speaker 4: that thing is a mondo. I mean, the dude is
- 13:35Speaker 4: just the beardiest of bearded guys. He's killing beards in
- 13:38Speaker 4: the bigger bucks now, I'm telling you, Kentucky bucks layer
- 13:41Speaker 4: for sure. So that's what we've got on the on
- 13:44Speaker 4: the podcast this week, and they've got some good information.
- 13:46Speaker 4: These guys are worth listening to. I promise you they
- 13:49Speaker 4: know a lot about killing deer. Cool.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Well, let's get them guys on and see what they
- 13:53Speaker 2: have to say about it.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Now on the phone, I've got Steven Ornella from Meat
- 13:58Speaker 4: Eater and his faith favorite game species, the white tailed deer. Steve,
- 14:02Speaker 4: what's going on, man.
- 14:03Speaker 6: Hey, thank you for clean that up like that. It's
- 14:05Speaker 6: going great, dude. Listen, man, I.
- 14:10Speaker 7: We just were down in Oklahoma hunting out of tree stands, man,
- 14:14Speaker 7: and I had so much fun. I was just telling
- 14:16Speaker 7: my uh friend Johannis that I can't stop thinking about it.
- 14:22Speaker 6: I grew up.
- 14:22Speaker 7: I grew up hunting tree stands and just being back
- 14:25Speaker 7: up there and how much stuff you see because you're
- 14:29Speaker 7: not you know what I mean, you slipping there and
- 14:31Speaker 7: then a couple hours later the whole woods forgot that
- 14:34Speaker 7: you're there and you see a lot of stuff.
- 14:35Speaker 2: It's cool, man, Dude, our cameraman freak out more about
- 14:38Speaker 2: big squirrel footers and they did a big deer foots.
- 14:39Speaker 5: They love it, you know.
- 14:40Speaker 2: The squirrels just come crawling down, they film them. It's
- 14:42Speaker 2: just and they know exactly what you're talking about.
- 14:45Speaker 6: Yeah, I know.
- 14:46Speaker 7: I was with Tony Peterson. He had a bobcat come
- 14:48Speaker 7: in under his tree totally unaware. And I don't know
- 14:50Speaker 7: the last time you tried to sneak up on a bobcat.
- 14:52Speaker 7: That ain't easy. Yeah, suck dude. It was such a blast.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Man, that's cool man, I know. Uh, Tony was pretty
- 15:00Speaker 4: pretty sycked about how everything went. You guys had a
- 15:02Speaker 4: little success there, right, Oh.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Yeah, we did.
- 15:05Speaker 7: So we had we had well, we had four full
- 15:07Speaker 7: days to hunt. We had an extra evening.
- 15:09Speaker 6: So what's that make four point five days sounds good?
- 15:13Speaker 6: He got two bucks. I hit spike and lost it.
- 15:17Speaker 7: I got a nice I got a nice little eight
- 15:21Speaker 7: point Michigan ate.
- 15:22Speaker 4: You know, yeah, I like it. Influence into this thing. Yeah,
- 15:28Speaker 4: it was great. It was.
- 15:29Speaker 6: It was a bumber to lose one, you know, and
- 15:33Speaker 6: you know, I tried to learn lessons from and all that,
- 15:35Speaker 6: but I.
- 15:36Speaker 7: Just I hit it too far back and we looked
- 15:39Speaker 7: and looked and went back and looked and looked and
- 15:41Speaker 7: looked and just can't couldn't pull together.
- 15:44Speaker 4: Sure, man, it happens, that's uh, that's a boat hunting.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, it's fun to be close. So what
- 15:49Speaker 4: were they what were they doing? Why were why was
- 15:51Speaker 4: that tree such a special place to sit.
- 15:53Speaker 7: Eating, just feeding, chilled out like no, I mean zero
- 15:59Speaker 7: any thing of zero, anything of like cruising behavior zero,
- 16:07Speaker 7: you know, no posturing, no interest in doze, dude, hot right,
- 16:15Speaker 7: eating on acorns, checking out beneath per Simon trees. Just
- 16:20Speaker 7: real leisurely, real leisurely, not like not traveling.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Yep. So did you see much as far as like
- 16:28Speaker 2: scrapes or rubs, And it seemed like the bucks had
- 16:30Speaker 2: been laying down any of that type sign.
- 16:33Speaker 7: Dude, Two scrapes about the size of two scrapes, both
- 16:38Speaker 7: had been freshened up, but they weren't as big as
- 16:40Speaker 7: my laptop gotchall close together. And like, it's funny because
- 16:45Speaker 7: we never saw any sign of that. We never saw
- 16:49Speaker 7: not any signs, saw signs, saw scrapes, never saw that buck.
- 16:52Speaker 7: And I actually hunted that spot and saw a little
- 16:57Speaker 7: three inch spike, so he wasn't the cold print. But yeah,
- 17:02Speaker 7: they had been you know they had been done, and
- 17:05Speaker 7: Tony he had run into a couple more.
- 17:07Speaker 6: I ran into those two. I ran into those two.
- 17:11Speaker 6: Bit the way things went, we never we never even.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Hunted them heavy. Yeah, gotcha. So uh, you know, seeing
- 17:16Speaker 2: that little bit of sign that just no interest. The
- 17:19Speaker 2: whole country essentially is gonna go through a cold front
- 17:22Speaker 2: over the next week, and Oklahoma will be the same. Uh,
- 17:26Speaker 2: with a lot of weather involved as well, a lot
- 17:28Speaker 2: of rain in the forecast. What do you think that's
- 17:30Speaker 2: gonna do to the deer? You know, kind of as
- 17:32Speaker 2: we look to the next week.
- 17:34Speaker 7: Well, I'll tell you what Tony Peterson said, and and
- 17:37Speaker 7: he was definitely the brains behind our operation down there.
- 17:41Speaker 7: You know, he does a lot of public land white tails, right,
- 17:43Speaker 7: and I've been out of that game for a long time.
- 17:46Speaker 7: It was funny because the terrible drought down there, so
- 17:50Speaker 7: bad in fact, that like there's a couple of little
- 17:53Speaker 7: dry like little pools in a dried up creek bed
- 17:57Speaker 7: just full of all these car gasp and for air.
- 18:00Speaker 7: We found a little pool smaller than a car, had
- 18:03Speaker 7: three beavers living in it. They got nowhere to go. Anyways, Wow,
- 18:07Speaker 7: he was he was saying, man you know. It's funny
- 18:10Speaker 7: because he kept saying to me, man, can you imagine
- 18:12Speaker 7: if it rained. Can you imagine if it rained, how
- 18:15Speaker 7: much movement there's going to be. So I'm sure it's
- 18:18Speaker 7: gonna you know, it was like when we hunted.
- 18:21Speaker 6: It was just hot.
- 18:22Speaker 7: You know, it was fun, it was great to be out,
- 18:24Speaker 7: but it just didn't have that feel in the air.
- 18:27Speaker 7: And I know Tony was saying that he was feeling
- 18:31Speaker 7: that some cool weather and some moisture would really be
- 18:34Speaker 7: what turned things around and kicked it off.
- 18:36Speaker 6: So I trust him more and I trust me on
- 18:39Speaker 6: that man.
- 18:39Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 18:39Speaker 4: Yeah, So a scale of one to ten, if you
- 18:42Speaker 4: had to pick a number based off of whatever excitement
- 18:46Speaker 4: you might have thinking about scrapes and the cold front
- 18:49Speaker 4: coming in the time of year, those kind of things,
- 18:51Speaker 4: what would you put buck movement at on a scale
- 18:54Speaker 4: of one to ten?
- 18:54Speaker 2: Next week?
- 18:56Speaker 7: Oh well, I guess i'd have to say it when
- 19:00Speaker 7: my time there, I guess i'd have to say that
- 19:02Speaker 7: it was three or four.
- 19:04Speaker 6: So it's gonna be way high.
- 19:06Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, it's gonna be way higher now.
- 19:09Speaker 6: I mean, it's happening.
- 19:10Speaker 8: Man.
- 19:10Speaker 7: Here's the thing is, it's gonna you know, you got
- 19:13Speaker 7: the inescapable reality of of.
- 19:15Speaker 6: Like length of day. Right and and and.
- 19:20Speaker 7: Let's say you had a heat wave and that heat
- 19:22Speaker 7: wave lasted, all that heat wave lasted the next month.
- 19:27Speaker 7: De you're gonna get bread, right, right, So it's gonna happen.
- 19:31Speaker 7: They're gonna get out. Uh if within that window, if
- 19:35Speaker 7: they can pick cool you know, moisture, cool temperatures, they're
- 19:41Speaker 7: gonna maximize on that right time.
- 19:43Speaker 2: So why not?
- 19:44Speaker 4: It is the perfect time, sure, sure, coole Man, Well,
- 19:47Speaker 4: congrats on on the success up there, man, and thanks
- 19:50Speaker 4: for hopping on the phone with us as a as
- 19:52Speaker 4: a busy dude. And uh, well hopefully see you're shooting
- 19:56Speaker 4: some more whitetails scene man.
- 19:58Speaker 6: Oh yeah, yeah, and and and thanks for having me on.
- 20:00Speaker 7: And just to clarify, you guys know this game better me,
- 20:03Speaker 7: but I appreciate you letting weigh in for sure.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Man. Thanks Steve, All right, take care on the phone. Now,
- 20:10Speaker 4: I've got Chris b He's one of my good friends.
- 20:12Speaker 4: He is up in Michigan, the home state, doing some hunting. Well,
- 20:15Speaker 4: the old home.
- 20:16Speaker 2: State, right, old home state.
- 20:18Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, the origin of Chris B. Man.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Yeah, the capital of the world.
- 20:24Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, how's it. How's the hunting up air
- 20:27Speaker 4: right now?
- 20:28Speaker 6: It's been good.
- 20:30Speaker 8: This is my third day now, and actually afternoon sits
- 20:35Speaker 8: have been pretty dang good. They're starting, you know, starting
- 20:40Speaker 8: to bump, doze around and stuff. We had a pretty
- 20:42Speaker 8: nice bark last night, just plow through the field chasing
- 20:45Speaker 8: after a dough and then we never saw him the
- 20:47Speaker 8: rest of the night. But they're definitely definitely feeling it.
- 20:51Speaker 8: Morning sits are have been slow for some reason. I
- 20:54Speaker 8: was kind of hopeful, but kind of seems like, you know,
- 20:56Speaker 8: we're not quite to where they're they're on that morning,
- 21:00Speaker 8: you know, where they're juiced up. So afternoon sit sitting food,
- 21:05Speaker 8: you know, is still kind of the play. But they're
- 21:06Speaker 8: definitely they're definitely feeling it.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Yeah, what kind of food are you sitting?
- 21:11Speaker 9: So thankfully one of.
- 21:13Speaker 8: My buddies here in Michigan he put in some good
- 21:15Speaker 8: food plots, so we're sitting over just brascas, you know,
- 21:18Speaker 8: and there's also cornfields and bean fields and stuff, so
- 21:21Speaker 8: we've just kind of been switching all around the acorns.
- 21:24Speaker 8: I don't know about you guys or what you've been hearing,
- 21:25Speaker 8: but they've been really really good this year.
- 21:29Speaker 4: So not.
- 21:30Speaker 8: You know, I feel like that sometimes throws a wrench
- 21:32Speaker 8: and stuff because they're kind of mixed up and more
- 21:35Speaker 8: in the woods for food sources and whatnot.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Yeah, it seems like that where we're from a little
- 21:41Speaker 4: bit right now. But I didn't think it was going
- 21:44Speaker 4: to be a great crop. So who knows, man, But
- 21:48Speaker 4: for you, have you seen more action on green food
- 21:51Speaker 4: sources or grain up there?
- 21:57Speaker 8: We have seen more on green, would say, if I
- 22:01Speaker 8: had to put it on, a lot of the corn
- 22:02Speaker 8: here is still standing. And I'm sure if they cut
- 22:07Speaker 8: it here. It's been wet though, but I'm sure if
- 22:10Speaker 8: they cut it here the next week, they'll they'll switch
- 22:13Speaker 8: over pretty hard, you know, the fresh cut corn they
- 22:17Speaker 8: always do.
- 22:17Speaker 5: You know.
- 22:18Speaker 8: But yeah, right now, I mean, if you got good food.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Pots, it seems like they've been hammering them.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Yeah. So we got some weather rolling through the US,
- 22:26Speaker 2: you know, in the upcoming week here, are you gonna
- 22:30Speaker 2: focus on pinch points or are you thinking still more rock?
- 22:32Speaker 2: We're in. That's kind of scrape time period right now,
- 22:34Speaker 2: you know, as kind of we get a cold front
- 22:36Speaker 2: that pushes through.
- 22:37Speaker 8: Yeah, this is scrape week, I like to call it.
- 22:39Speaker 8: You know, it's last week of October now through Halloween.
- 22:42Speaker 8: It's like find a fresh scrape next to a food source,
- 22:46Speaker 8: especially for afternoons, you know, morning if you want to
- 22:48Speaker 8: sit mornings kind of October twenty fifth is my start
- 22:52Speaker 8: of morning hunts. I've been cheating a little bit and
- 22:54Speaker 8: hunting in the mornings early because I got limited time here.
- 22:57Speaker 8: But that's, you know, October twenty fifth when I really
- 22:59Speaker 8: start doings, because they will start, you know, trying to
- 23:02Speaker 8: find the local doughs a little bit or at least
- 23:05Speaker 8: get fired up.
- 23:07Speaker 6: But you know, just starting.
- 23:08Speaker 8: We sat a pinch this morning and just had a
- 23:11Speaker 8: terrible morning, so we should have should have not done that.
- 23:14Speaker 8: So I think it just depends on your area too,
- 23:17Speaker 8: you know, if you get a hot dough that comes
- 23:18Speaker 8: in early for some reason and kind of gets bucks
- 23:20Speaker 8: fired up a little earlier than usual.
- 23:22Speaker 6: But scrapes, I mean, right now, it's scrape, scrape, scrapes.
- 23:24Speaker 2: It's hard to jump on that stuff. Man, you know,
- 23:27Speaker 2: we're all this is so keyed up on it now.
- 23:29Speaker 2: You I want to talk a little bit about the
- 23:30Speaker 2: tactic of the scrape. Are you trying to be able
- 23:33Speaker 2: to shoot the scrape or are you finding access trails
- 23:35Speaker 2: to that or what are you thinking whenever it comes
- 23:37Speaker 2: to like sitting up on that thing.
- 23:39Speaker 8: Yeah, So good example right now is we have it's
- 23:43Speaker 8: actually like a down oak tree on the edge of
- 23:46Speaker 8: this big maybe one acre food plot, and all over
- 23:49Speaker 8: the edge of the oak tree, you know, hanging out
- 23:51Speaker 8: in the field is just like five scrapes all torn up.
- 23:53Speaker 8: So we got to you know, a stand right on
- 23:55Speaker 8: the edge of the food plot with that at about
- 23:57Speaker 8: twenty yards. I like to shoot scrapes at least one
- 24:00Speaker 8: of them, you know, if it's a scrape line, you know,
- 24:03Speaker 8: set up to where obviously you're not gonna booger the
- 24:06Speaker 8: spot up. But yeah, I mean I love shooting to
- 24:08Speaker 8: your own scrapes because they're one distracted and two it's
- 24:11Speaker 8: a good probability you're gonna have a good range on
- 24:13Speaker 8: them and they're gonna be standing still field for a minute.
- 24:18Speaker 8: So you know, I'm all about just hunting right right
- 24:20Speaker 8: on the scrape or you know, the trail plus the scrape.
- 24:25Speaker 8: You know, a trifecta of food scrape trail would be
- 24:27Speaker 8: you know perfect.
- 24:29Speaker 4: I I get multiplying my variables there now, Yeah, based
- 24:33Speaker 4: off of like weather variables or lunar or just even
- 24:39Speaker 4: time of year. In the next week in Michigan, what's
- 24:44Speaker 4: the buck movement gonna be Like? Is it gonna be good?
- 24:46Speaker 4: Is it gonna be better? And if you had to
- 24:48Speaker 4: rank it on a scale of one to ten, what
- 24:50Speaker 4: would you put it at?
- 24:51Speaker 8: You know, I think it's it's just the time of
- 24:54Speaker 8: year where it is gonna be good regardless of weather.
- 24:56Speaker 8: I mean, we're getting there. It's no longer you know,
- 24:59Speaker 8: good weather's gonna but we're getting into the rut soon
- 25:02Speaker 8: and it's like you just gotta be in a tree.
- 25:05Speaker 8: It's it's good to have good weather. It'll enhance the hunting,
- 25:09Speaker 8: but they're gonna do deer things regardless of how I
- 25:11Speaker 8: kind of.
- 25:12Speaker 6: Look at it.
- 25:12Speaker 8: I think we got some cold weather coming in soon, though,
- 25:14Speaker 8: and that'll help. I mean, it was thirty degrees this morning.
- 25:18Speaker 8: It was kind of like the first hard frost, and
- 25:20Speaker 8: I honestly think it kind of.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Shocked deer, Like deer were like, ooh, it's cold.
- 25:23Speaker 8: You know, and just kind of I feel like that
- 25:25Speaker 8: first hard frost, they really don't move as much as
- 25:27Speaker 8: you would think. But I think, you know, these next
- 25:31Speaker 8: couple hard you know this next hard snap is.
- 25:34Speaker 7: Gonna be good.
- 25:34Speaker 6: I think it's gonna get.
- 25:35Speaker 8: Them fired up.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Cool scaleing one to ten if you had to rate it.
- 25:39Speaker 8: I mean, I love this week up to Halloween.
- 25:42Speaker 6: I'm gonna say like a seven.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Oh yeah, let's go, dude.
- 25:47Speaker 8: I mean, especially if you got a good local buck.
- 25:49Speaker 8: I mean, this is the time to kill your local bucks. Sure, yeah,
- 25:53Speaker 8: you know, or nocturnal buck. He's been nocturnal all October.
- 25:56Speaker 8: You get a good weather snap and you know you
- 25:59Speaker 8: got him on camera. Now you're hitting scrapes. It's like,
- 26:01Speaker 8: this is the time hunt those scrapes and and get
- 26:04Speaker 8: a good weather and he's gonna slip off.
- 26:07Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, for sure. Man. Well, Chris, I hope it
- 26:09Speaker 4: goes well for you up there in Michigan and wherever
- 26:11Speaker 4: else you go the rest of the year. And I
- 26:12Speaker 4: appreciate you hopping on and giving us the report.
- 26:15Speaker 6: Yeah, guys, good talking.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Get him man, Okay, on the phone here, We've got
- 26:35Speaker 4: Sam broken Hogan. What's going on? Broken dude. It's been
- 26:43Speaker 4: a while since I've actually talked to you, but you
- 26:45Speaker 4: and I keep up on, you know, just passing on
- 26:48Speaker 4: social media. And dude, it looks like giants just follow
- 26:53Speaker 4: you around.
- 26:54Speaker 6: Dude, I like to think I follow them around.
- 26:58Speaker 4: But oh you pretty get that too.
- 27:00Speaker 9: Situation.
- 27:00Speaker 6: They definitely made it a little.
- 27:01Speaker 9: Easier on me.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Man.
- 27:04Speaker 4: You shot a giant up in Ohio and you know
- 27:08Speaker 4: it looked like the pictures looked just like the falls
- 27:12Speaker 4: is there? Are you seeing many acrons dropping or what
- 27:14Speaker 4: you what? It's what's going on in the woods there.
- 27:17Speaker 6: You got to be careful not to roll your ankles
- 27:19Speaker 6: out there.
- 27:19Speaker 9: I mean, yeah, the hold on, I got that. The
- 27:24Speaker 9: acorns are big, round and slippery.
- 27:30Speaker 4: You can't even continue talking after you say that. It's
- 27:34Speaker 4: so dishonest.
- 27:37Speaker 9: But actually, I mean they are hot. But where I
- 27:42Speaker 9: was hunting was was largely maples. It was there weren't
- 27:45Speaker 9: many olds. It was walnuts and maples. But in uh,
- 27:50Speaker 9: other properties I'm hunted, the oaks are just going nuts
- 27:54Speaker 9: right now.
- 27:55Speaker 4: So that's kind of We've seen a lot of people,
- 27:58Speaker 4: especially in like northern states that are that are seeing
- 28:01Speaker 4: that right now. Is that affecting what you were doing
- 28:04Speaker 4: hunting that funnel that you were hunting this this week?
- 28:08Speaker 9: Yeah? It Uh, when it's so widespread, it's really hard
- 28:12Speaker 9: to key in on like one producing tree or one
- 28:15Speaker 9: producing stand. So what I was, frankly, I switched a
- 28:22Speaker 9: little bit to UH to hunting tactics and with that
- 28:25Speaker 9: UH spot where a couple of big ridges came together
- 28:29Speaker 9: and and fortunately it came together for me.
- 28:34Speaker 4: That's cool, dude. So you know, it's weird how some
- 28:38Speaker 4: of those those acorns or acorns, how they they will
- 28:42Speaker 4: be yellow sometimes you know, yeah.
- 28:46Speaker 9: Yeah, you know, the the corn flavored one.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Yeah, it's crazy, man. So talk about talk about, like,
- 28:54Speaker 4: you know, truly the tactics involved in that, like how
- 28:56Speaker 4: how do you find a place to put it?
- 28:58Speaker 2: What do you what are you thinking there? Yeah?
- 29:00Speaker 9: So this this was a obviously it's private property in
- 29:05Speaker 9: Ohio where I killed this buck, and corn piles are legal,
- 29:09Speaker 9: so for us, it was largely an intel, Like we
- 29:14Speaker 9: hadn't hunted this place in previous years, so it was
- 29:17Speaker 9: a new farm, and it was just seeing what was
- 29:19Speaker 9: in the area and putting them in semi strategic areas
- 29:25Speaker 9: where they're going to be anyway, but you're just ensuring
- 29:29Speaker 9: they're going to be in front of your camera.
- 29:33Speaker 2: So whenever you do that, essentially you're hunting a deer
- 29:38Speaker 2: that just found a new food source. It's not like
- 29:41Speaker 2: you were drawing deer in from miles to like a
- 29:45Speaker 2: two thousand pounds pile, right, It's kind of more just
- 29:47Speaker 2: like a hey, let's get him in front of the
- 29:49Speaker 2: camera type deal.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Correct?
- 29:51Speaker 9: Correct, And and we're I live in Michigan, so hunting
- 29:55Speaker 9: down in Ohio it's it's I'd have to be a
- 29:58Speaker 9: much stronger man to get two thousand pound of cornder
- 30:02Speaker 9: one spot up in them hills.
- 30:03Speaker 2: So yeah, it makes sense. So I want to talk
- 30:08Speaker 2: a little bit about like how you strategize shots and
- 30:13Speaker 2: stuff in those big hills. Are you setting up a
- 30:16Speaker 2: spot like that? So say you have a bait station
- 30:19Speaker 2: or you just have a spot that you want to hunt.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Are you trying to set up where you can shoot
- 30:23Speaker 2: a lot of trails? Are you trying to set up
- 30:25Speaker 2: where you can shoot the spot, or are you you know,
- 30:29Speaker 2: just finding the tree and mine have to take a
- 30:32Speaker 2: forty five yard charter? What does that look like?
- 30:35Speaker 9: Well, this this particular situation was the top of the
- 30:39Speaker 9: ridge wasn't like one trail.
- 30:41Speaker 6: It was it was one hundred yards wide.
- 30:44Speaker 9: So I was banking on them doing kind of getting
- 30:48Speaker 9: a little ruddy. It was the twenty third when I
- 30:50Speaker 9: killed them, and I was I had rattling antlers and
- 30:54Speaker 9: a grunt tube in the tree, and I learned from
- 30:58Speaker 9: you guys to make sure that the the yellow acorns
- 31:02Speaker 9: are within shooting range. I remember that and back back
- 31:07Speaker 9: in Kansas, I think it was like seventeen hsh.
- 31:10Speaker 3: You don't remind me that.
- 31:11Speaker 9: I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to do that case,
- 31:16Speaker 9: but yeah, the I always make sure I've got a
- 31:20Speaker 9: shot to it. I don't like being right on top
- 31:21Speaker 9: of it. I like being thirty thirty five yards away
- 31:24Speaker 9: from it. But I set up so the wind obviously
- 31:29Speaker 9: isn't going there, because your likelihood of getting those fawns
- 31:32Speaker 9: little box something you're not really gonna shoot is pretty high.
- 31:36Speaker 6: Yeah, that they're going to be right there.
- 31:38Speaker 9: So I set it up with that in mind, but
- 31:41Speaker 9: also with all the trails that coming through my wind
- 31:45Speaker 9: dropping into one of those bottoms where if they're running
- 31:47Speaker 9: the ridges, they're not gonna they're not gonna get me.
- 31:50Speaker 4: Yeah. So in this week, based off of like variables
- 31:53Speaker 4: that may may affect deer or deer movement, do you
- 31:57Speaker 4: foresee it being very similar and on a scale one
- 32:00Speaker 4: to ten, when you think the Buck movement will be like.
- 32:04Speaker 9: Uh, last year, I think I gave it like a
- 32:06Speaker 9: six point eight, and then I killed the one fifty
- 32:08Speaker 9: the next year. Okay, so I'm gonna give it an eight.
- 32:15Speaker 6: And uh it's it's.
- 32:17Speaker 9: Warm until Friday, and then we got a real, real,
- 32:20Speaker 9: real cold cold snap at the perfect time.
- 32:22Speaker 4: Oh man.
- 32:23Speaker 9: So the twenty eight through, I mean the foreseeable future
- 32:28Speaker 9: twenty eighth is when it starts real cold range.
- 32:32Speaker 6: Let's do it.
- 32:33Speaker 4: If Sam says listen, if you if you're listening to
- 32:36Speaker 4: this and Sam says it's gonna be an eight, you
- 32:38Speaker 4: need to be in the woods. He is one of
- 32:39Speaker 4: the most under the under the radar quote unquote experts
- 32:43Speaker 4: at deer hunting that I've ever met in my life.
- 32:44Speaker 4: So I appreciate he'd listen. I know you're a humble guy.
- 32:48Speaker 2: I ain't even deer either. Dude, he's killed like pigs.
- 32:51Speaker 2: Need I'm telling you, Sam, just you.
- 32:53Speaker 6: Were like, I don't even do that.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Hey, you're gonna be the next like Eberhart, just like
- 32:58Speaker 2: the guy who's got the following man.
- 32:59Speaker 4: Yeah, really, Mark, it don't matter. You're an expert. Hey,
- 33:03Speaker 4: thanks for hopping on the phone. With the Sam and uh, well,
- 33:06Speaker 4: we'll hope that we get to talk to you again
- 33:07Speaker 4: maybe in maybe from Michigan sometime.
- 33:10Speaker 6: All right, let's do it, all right, thank you?
- 33:13Speaker 4: All right, now I've got Dave Skinner from Kentucky's with
- 33:15Speaker 4: whitetail properties. Dave, you've been killing some bucks. It looks like, man,
- 33:20Speaker 4: I got one on the ground.
- 33:21Speaker 6: I shot one Sunday.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Sunday was a week ago?
- 33:24Speaker 4: Yeah, man, uh was it? What was the weather like
- 33:27Speaker 4: when you shot that deer?
- 33:29Speaker 5: Just a perfect October mid October cold front come through,
- 33:32Speaker 5: got the deer on our feet really early in the day. Uh, yeah,
- 33:37Speaker 5: it was beautiful weather. Had had a good stiff north
- 33:39Speaker 5: wind that day and spent a little rain.
- 33:43Speaker 2: He stepped out in the in the food plot like
- 33:46Speaker 2: at four fifty in the afternoon.
- 33:48Speaker 4: By yeah, yeah, what'sh what's in that food plot?
- 33:53Speaker 5: Not much of anything really, it's a it's a pretty
- 33:55Speaker 5: it's a pretty poor food plot. And uh, I will
- 33:59Speaker 5: tell you what he's stepped out there for was the
- 34:01Speaker 5: Golden acres.
- 34:02Speaker 2: That's what he stepped out there. The wow in Kentucky,
- 34:06Speaker 2: we can we can baite.
- 34:07Speaker 4: I'm not going to hide that fact.
- 34:09Speaker 5: But yeah, so he come out and get a get
- 34:12Speaker 5: a belly full of full of corn.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Sounds like you were pretty close to where he is living.
- 34:16Speaker 2: I mean, if he's there at four fifty in the afternoon,
- 34:18Speaker 2: that's pretty early. Is that strategic that you were setting
- 34:21Speaker 2: up close to where you thought that deer was core
- 34:23Speaker 2: ranging at or did it just happen to be something
- 34:25Speaker 2: he had just died to throughout the season.
- 34:28Speaker 5: So to be honest, that deer wasn't on my radar
- 34:31Speaker 5: until the week before and he started just showing up
- 34:34Speaker 5: at that spot. And I actually took a kid in
- 34:38Speaker 5: with me to hunt. He won't shoot, but I took
- 34:40Speaker 5: a kid in with me and we set up on him,
- 34:42Speaker 5: and the wind just kind of messed us up. I
- 34:44Speaker 5: think I would have killed him that week before, had
- 34:46Speaker 5: had the wind been steady, but it was a lot warmer.
- 34:49Speaker 5: He was coming out right at last right at last light.
- 34:52Speaker 5: And then the fast forward the next week he had
- 34:56Speaker 5: gone underground. I know he smelled us because he just disappear.
- 35:00Speaker 5: After that, he'd been real regular. And fast forward a
- 35:03Speaker 5: week and this cold front was in and I just
- 35:05Speaker 5: kind of, you know, I wasn't even thinking behinding that deer.
- 35:08Speaker 5: I say, that I was trying to prepare a spot
- 35:10Speaker 5: to kill him later on in the year once he
- 35:13Speaker 5: was really doing what bucks do during the rut, which
- 35:16Speaker 5: is when I like to shoot him. But I was
- 35:19Speaker 5: at the farm working and he pops on a cell
- 35:22Speaker 5: camera at five o'clock Saturday, and I'm like, buddy, if
- 35:25Speaker 5: you're going to do that, I will be there tomorrow
- 35:28Speaker 5: because the wind's going to be right, so sure as
- 35:30Speaker 5: the world's That's what happened to when was still good.
- 35:32Speaker 5: And I slipped in there next day and he done
- 35:35Speaker 5: the same thing two days in a row, which is
- 35:36Speaker 5: gonna happen very often.
- 35:37Speaker 4: That's cool, man. So with that, I'm guessing you're not
- 35:41Speaker 4: seeing a ton of rutting activity. They're pretty consistent to feed.
- 35:45Speaker 4: Have you seen any scrape action.
- 35:47Speaker 6: Yeah, the scrapes are really picking up.
- 35:49Speaker 5: As a matter of fact, I got several bucks on
- 35:51Speaker 5: scrapes last night on my cell cams. A new buck
- 35:55Speaker 5: that I'm not familiar with showed up last night on
- 35:58Speaker 5: the scrape and yesterday. We had our Muslim at weekend
- 36:02Speaker 5: this weekend, so we shot some doe over the weekend
- 36:04Speaker 5: and everywhere we went there was there was fresh scrapes
- 36:07Speaker 5: popping up, So they're they're really hitting them hard. And
- 36:10Speaker 5: actually got a got a buck on camera this morning.
- 36:12Speaker 5: Dog in a dough in a food plot. So yesterday
- 36:16Speaker 5: evening we were out and uh, it was crazy. We
- 36:18Speaker 5: were trying to kill doze and I think we'd saw
- 36:20Speaker 5: five bucks.
- 36:22Speaker 4: Wow, finally had it.
- 36:23Speaker 5: Yeah, finally had a dose.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Stepped in the food.
- 36:25Speaker 5: Plot, a legit food plot that had a right at
- 36:30Speaker 5: very last light, and there was a there was a
- 36:32Speaker 5: three year old buck in the food plot whenever whenever
- 36:34Speaker 5: she came in and he kind of trotted over to
- 36:37Speaker 5: her and and when she showed no interest, he just
- 36:39Speaker 5: turned the left.
- 36:40Speaker 4: So that's they're starting.
- 36:42Speaker 5: They're starting to get starting to get a little frisky.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Yeah, feels a little chipy up there where you're at. Man,
- 36:46Speaker 3: that's that's cool.
- 36:47Speaker 2: So if you were going to look forward to the
- 36:48Speaker 2: next week, it sounds like you got some buck movement going.
- 36:52Speaker 2: If you had to rate it on a scale of
- 36:54Speaker 2: one to ten for the next week on buck movement,
- 36:56Speaker 2: what would you call it.
- 36:58Speaker 5: I'll be honest, we our cold front's gone and it's
- 37:01Speaker 5: going to be pretty warm all week. I would probably
- 37:04Speaker 5: try to get some chores done and be ready.
- 37:06Speaker 2: To hit it around Halloween.
- 37:07Speaker 5: It looks like there's a there's a front rolling through.
- 37:11Speaker 5: I think it's supposed to hit here right right about
- 37:13Speaker 5: the thirty first, So that's that's when I would concentrate.
- 37:17Speaker 5: It's just too darn and warm, I think, and for
- 37:20Speaker 5: a lot of daylight activity. Not saying it won't happen,
- 37:22Speaker 5: but I think it'll get better around the thirty thirty
- 37:25Speaker 5: to thirty first something like that.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Okay, so give me that one to ten number. Though,
- 37:28Speaker 2: what are you gonna call it right now?
- 37:30Speaker 4: Right now?
- 37:31Speaker 5: Man, it's pretty low as far as red action goes.
- 37:33Speaker 5: I would say three maybe.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Hey, I like an honest answer, man. A lot of
- 37:37Speaker 2: guys get a little bit too optimistic. That's reasonable, look
- 37:41Speaker 2: forward to that cold front coming. Hey, Dave, we appreciate
