- Alex: Welcome to another edition of the Unsexy Podcast, where we talk about the unsexy side of everything. And today, we're gonna be talking about something I don't even know if we really consider it that unsexy, if I'm being honest. This is a little bit more of a fun thing. We've had some people ask, so we are responding. We're gonna talk about what's in our pantry, what we have going on, the things that we like to eat, what's in the fridge, etc. etc. We've talked about this a little bit on past podcasts and we're like, ⁓ like I'll eat I'll get my protein shaken. I have this, I have this. I am going to go over like what I eat almost every single day with some variation and then some of like what my cheat meals are that I have. And then Aaron's gonna do do a similar thing too. ⁓ Aaron: Let's do let's do like start just start with breakfast and we'll just bounce back and forth. Does that work? Yeah. Alex: Breakfast. Perfect. So my day starts off in the morning. I'm usually working out around seven AM. Either it's from seven AM to eight AM or seven AM to eight thirty AM, depending on what the workout is for the day. And then right after my workout, breakfast. Actually, let me take a step back. Let me take a step back. No, yeah, yeah, yeah. You're right. So first thing I do, applesauce packet, two applesauce packets from Costco. ninety calories, about I think it's Aaron: Wait, so you okay, sorry. Alex: 36 grams? Yeah, it's the curtain blind. I think it's it's gotta be less than that. It's probably twenty-eight grams of carbs. And then I also eat the Catalina Crunch 30 gram that's 30 like weight grams of the Catalina Crunch cinnamon cereal, which has a lot of fiber plus carbs, lower in fat and a little bit of protein in it. And that usually puts me at around 250 ish calories to start the day. Aaron: Is it the Kirkland brand? Okay. Do you raw dog the Catalina? Do you raw dog the Catalina? Yeah, you just ⁓ We'll get we'll get into that, Alex. Alex: And that's what I'm going into my say that again. Yeah, I do. Do you put milk in it? Okay, all right. Like I I raw I I raw dog it. So what he's refer to cereal type, like I raw dog it because I'm just like, I don't have the time to go put this in anything else. I just want to eat it and it's it's like a nice little snack mitt. So that's that's pre that's pre workout. So maybe we'll start with pre workout and then what's your pre workout? Aaron: Well it's well yeah, and it it's yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yes. ⁓ pre-work is like literally well, it's almost the exact same every time. I do 40 grams. Yes, Alex. To answer your question, this is unsexy because we're talking about weighing things out, which is extremely unsexy. So I weigh out 40 grams of cream of wheat. I put some water in there, and then I put in the ⁓ the monk fruit. There's a monk fruit, I can't remember the name of the brand, but it's ⁓ monk fruit brown sugar. It's like it's literally just like brown sugar, but there's zero calories in it. And so I put like a you know, I got a tablespoon in there because I'm I'm not crazy. I'm not just gonna eat ⁓ cream of wheat by itself. And so I do that, I heat it up, and then I have one protein shake that is thirty grams of protein. That it's funny, I could tell you exactly because I track everything, I can tell you exactly how many grams of everything are in it. Alex: Cream of wheat protein sugar. Aaron: Cream of reap, protein, sugar. And so that with that, it's ⁓ 40 grams. So I do the cream of ⁓ sorry. And I use I do some sort of energy drink, because that is my that's my coffee. And so depending on what it is, the one I drank yesterday was 25 calories. So it's 145 calories. ⁓ so I'll just go through it. So 320 calories, 35 grams of carbs, 34. ⁓ grams of protein and three grams of fat. And that is my pre workout. So I will do that I try and time it so it's like thirty minutes to an hour before I'm gonna go go work out. Yeah. Yep. Yep. And so that's my that's my pre my pre breakfast. Alex: Six AM for me. Yeah. Interesting. One d difference between Aaron and I, and I don't know if this is Real or not, but I stopped using pre-workout so I don't have any caffeine the entire day. Just as a a test of rooski when I started seventy-five hard, and my deep sleep has improved, and my overall sleep scores have improved. Maybe it's just because I'm being more healthy and making better choices as well, but just eliminating I'm telling myself, just eliminating that caffeine, even though it has a half life of like six hours, like it should go away before you go to sleep, has allowed me to fall asleep a lot quicker because I am MF and tired by the end of the Aaron: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Alex: Yeah. Aaron: Well, no, you're right, because I used to like it's a terrible high I dn I'll never encourage people to drink energy drinks, but it's like that is my ⁓ I guess one of my cheat things. I just I look forward to drinking them. But I used to drink one in the morning. ⁓ this is still one that I'm kind of nursing from this morning. And then I would drink one in the afternoon, and I stopped doing that because of exactly what you said. I didn't I couldn't fall asleep at night. I was like, this is but I wasn't like drinking it at like eight o'clock at night. I would drink it at like five, maybe. ⁓ usually I'm like editing a video or whatever. And I stopped doing that. And because of that, I just sleep way better. So you're that there there's some validity in what you're saying for sure. Alex: and Like I said, some people need it. Like one of my buddies reached out and said, like, hey, I'm struggling with like my deep sleep. And like also I can tell he has a lot going on in his mind. Big thing for Aura Ring, there's a restfulness metric. And he taught I was just Hey dude, he it over, like, Do you toss and turn a lot at night? He's just like, Yeah, yeah, I do. I was like, Yeah, your restfulness score is horrible. Got a lot on your mind, and then we went down that road and talked about that for a little bit. So there's there are other things that can impact your sleep that aren't related to the food that you're consuming. Aaron: Yes. That that is a podcast in itself, like talking about like getting quality sleep for sure. Alex: ⁓ all right, so pre workout Caffeine for you, no caffeine for me. One thing I will say, once you haven't had caffeine in long time, I did have caffeine on Sunday because I was I knew I was gonna be doing a long run. Good Lord Almighty, the amount of energy that you have not having caffeine in a long amount of time was like I could run like I I honestly just drinking that I was like, I think I could run a half marathon. Like I got to six miles and like I had other things to do that day, but I was just like, I think I could just keep going. Like I like so kudos to caffeine for having that ⁓ effect on. Aaron: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Alex: people's bodies. How po how strong is it? Do you still feel like do you still like the jitters? I hadn't had the jitters in a long time. It was Aaron: Yes. No. It doesn't make me jittery. Like I see I have the opposite. It's called an addiction, Alex. So if I stop taking I get a massive headache. Alex: all right, so post Aaron: But you but you wanna know what, like real quick, like if I didn't take an energy drink in the morning, like I honestly don't think I don't think I would work I don't I just don't think I'd be able to push as hard. And there's lots of studies that talk about caffeine and the and the effectiveness it is on workouts. So I totally believe ⁓ your experience of ⁓ I took it and I could run forever. Like it it definitely helps with ⁓ exercising. Alex: I believe you. Yeah, like I I had never f I hadn't felt that in a long time with caffeine. Like I've never felt anyways. so post-workout, I'm eating the same thing every single day. 90 grams of oats. I'm gonna pull an air in right now. I don't know why I'm not just simplifying this and looking at my I was like, all right, scoop and a half of double rich chocolate protein, the one that you get on Amazon, one that you get at Costco, ⁓ oatmeal. Aaron: Pull it up. Pull it up. I know, I'll have mine ready too. Alex: 90 grams, so that's one cup of oatmeal, a banana, ⁓ a carrot, because why not? It's like literally, I'm just like, I I eat no vegetables. ⁓ and then Kirkland Signatures three cup berry blend. ⁓ so that's 10 grams of fat. Aaron: So you c so you can see better, even though that's been that's been debugged. Alex: One hundred and twenty two grams of carbohydrates and fifty six gri actually this is a little inaccurate. ⁓ it's actually gonna be closer to seven grams of fat, a hundred to ninety carbohydrates, and then fifty six grams of protein. Blend it up, shoot it down, ⁓ and two scoops of creatine. Aaron: Should have done it. ⁓ yeah, I take creatine in the ⁓ when I first wake up. Alex: Eight grams to be exact. Aaron: ⁓ okay. ⁓ yeah, I do I do yeah, I do 10 grams every day. ⁓ I'm gonna do this live, Alex. This is I wanna just I'm gonna do this live because I want to show people how easy it is to track your food, how long it takes. All right, so typically great, it's gonna be like not have the stuff that I normally have. I'm like, ⁓ this is take a lot of time. All right, so like I kind of switch up what I have after the gym, but I want to get carbs in. So normally I'll do like a bagel. Alex: That's how much I take. I do eleven. Aaron: I'm doing this. I'm I'm putting this right next. I haven't done put it yet. I do a bagel, cream cheese, and then I'll do two more protein shakes. ⁓ let's put that in there too. And ⁓ that comes out to be six hundred and seventeen calories, forty-seven grams of carbs, seventy-two grams of protein, and seventeen grams of I know d that's it took what 10 seconds? It took 10 seconds to do that. Like so shut the fuck up, people that are like, ⁓ tracking food takes so long to do. It took me 10 seconds to do. And I usually do it while I'm waiting for my bagel to be to be done. ⁓ Alex: No. Yeah. And like and like Aaron has mentioned before, like once you like the f adding the food the first time is hard and then it's like just saved for forever and all you're changing is amounts. Sometimes. Yeah. Aaron: Mm-hmm. Exactly. Exact and and like yeah, I might you want sometimes it takes me thirty seconds, but that's the price. Yes. So I I yep. Alex: Cream cheese. Sorry, I got questions on the cream cheese. Is that like a low fat cream cheese? You go on full fat cream cheese? Aaron: Full fat baby, because I have to hit ⁓ a certain amount of fats. I don't eat a lot of fats throughout the day, but I have to get my coach has me, so my coach has me for like training days. So training days, like ⁓ I guess upper body, there's a certain amount that I'm my macros are supposed to hit. Leg days is h way higher. Not like way higher, but is higher. And then non-training days is lower than everything. And so Just in general, it's usually around 90 grams of fat that I'm supposed to get a day. And so even with that, like I I kind of actually struggle to get the fats in. So sometimes I'll throw like sometimes I'll put an egg on my my bagel with cream cheese and it's delicious. An egg, maybe some some nice some not bacon. I don't put bacon, like ham. I'll put some nice ham on there. ⁓ but yeah, like you can you can still eat delicious food and stay within your macros and be healthy. But that's that's kind of typically what I ⁓ and sometimes I'll also do this I was doing for a long time. I would do like this like ⁓ sweet potato hash where I would just chop it up into cubes, fry it in the air fryer, take two eggs, mix it all together, a little little bit of ⁓ cholula chipotle, mix it together, eat that, and that was that's what I would do sometimes. I do that sometimes as well. ⁓ so I do get I do get Whole Foods, not just I'm only eating bagels, but ⁓ the The thing that I want to talk about, so there's some like good, like kind of snacky, hacky things you can do. I got into this whole do you like you like ⁓ good, you like yogurt. I have a friend who's yogurt. What a fucking weirdo. ⁓ but it's like the non-fat Greek yogurt, and you add in like ⁓ the different like jello pudding mixes, like the zero sugar ones. And so I put in, I tried this yesterday, it was fucking delicious. I ⁓ I added the cheesecake flavoring. It's like a tablespoon of that with a cup of the the The Greek yogurt. And then I got ⁓ blueberries. So just nice those little the little blueberries. You can get them at Costco. They I they're called wild blueberries or something. You get the little blueberries. so you make that kind of the night before, let it set, and then I add the blueberries, and then I add teddy grams. ⁓ because I love teddy. That's why. ⁓ and I I smash up some teddy grams. I literally thought about it when I was doing this, and I put them in there. Alex: Thank you. Aaron: And just mix it all together and I just snack on that. And the and the macros on that were actually awesome. Here's another reason you can try. I'll eat the whole thing. It's not, it's not, it sounds like it's a lot. It's it's not. You could make a bunch, I guess. But like that whole thing was ⁓ I guess I also threw in a frosted blueberry flavored protein pastry by late legendary. So they have the legendary makes these Pop Tarts. They're delicious. You have to put them in the microwave. If you eat them plain, I could still do it. I could raw dog it because they're still good to me. Alex: Snack on that throughout the day or you'll eat the whole thing. Okay. Aaron: ⁓ but if you put them in the microwave for like twelve, maybe eleven seconds, it's just so good. But the macros for the sorry, real quick is it's like ⁓ I'm trying I have to like take out the the protein from that thing. It's like that I was just saying it doesn't matter. I guess the whole point of this is talking about this. But the Greek yogurt's like 133 calories, the teddy grams was 39 Alex: Yeah, it's just Aaron: And then the pie filling stuff was 32. The wild, obviously the blueberries was like nothing. It was like 19. But it's delicious. But you could do this with like a bunch of different things. Like find like these little recipes. Exactly. Find these recipes that are that you like. Maybe you don't like Greek yogurt like my buddy. He hates Greek yogurt. Find something else that you like that's good that you can look forward to. I'm I have it in my refrigerator now. When this podcast is done, I am. Alex: Get creative. Aaron: I am salivating thinking about going and eating that after cause it was it was just so good. Alex: I asked the question about the fat thing because I feel like that's the area that I've been struggling with the most. And I think I know where like it's I know like the areas that I need to cut back on it, but it's not like it's not like crazy high amounts of fat, but like I'm trying to stay within like the fifty-four range and I constantly in like the sixties and seventies. ⁓ but here we are. Aaron: Mm-hmm. Uh-huh. Yeah, that would be tough. Fifty four, that would be that'd be that'd be hard to stay at. That's a really low amount of a low amount of fat. Alex: Yeah, I hate it. ⁓ all right, so then that's a nice little nice little snack right there. My nice little snack, this is actually going to be where like most of my fats are coming from, are from snacks. So I eat the buffalo I always forget the name of these. Yep, buffalo, yeah, that's it. Wild. Aaron: The chips, those wild chips. I think it's called wild, yeah. They're like the chicken ones. Alex: Yeah, so wild protein chips buffalo style. I eat thirty grams of that a day. And then I eat a protein shake from Fair Life, which has a lot of good stuff in it. And Aaron: Mm-hmm. The best, the best protein shake. Alex: For a little treat with my protein shake, I will I will let myself have a rice crispy treat. So that's probably like the most hey, why are you doing that type thing that I have each day. Then the other snack I have, and this is more for the fiber aspect of it, is come on, man. Tracking so it's called Catalina Crunch Cheddared Crunch Mix. Aaron: ⁓ yes, yeah, yeah. Alex: ⁓ so that one ha is a hundred and forty one it has that yeah, so that's like where my fat's coming from is from that and from the the protein chips. Eight and a half grams of total fat, four point seven grams of fiber, and then nine to ten grams of protein. So those two are very similar to one another. The they have ex essentially the exact same ⁓ the exact same macros. ⁓ and so Aaron: So what so the reason I asked you and I was kind of because we're trying to talk about snacky hacky things. What I do is ⁓ so that Catalina crunch, I I love that stuff. But I will add the chocolate fair life milk like protein shake, put it in a bowl with that, and eat that. And it's delicious. Yes. Yeah, not the cheddar one. That would be that would be like well well that's disgusting. No, with like or just whatever like Alex: With the cinnamon one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, okay. Interesting. Very interesting. Aaron: I guess more protein forward ⁓ cereal that you like. There's like the magic spoon. There's a there's like a million of ⁓ The one I would stay away from that I actually used to take all the time was the Cheerios one because I just found that the protein in there wasn't like high quality protein. So I stopped I stopped doing that. So I just make sure you have a good like whey protein base ⁓ for whatever cereal that you're you're eating. But that's what I do. I if I'm like not gonna make my macros for the day, like especially I really struggle with carbs, like getting enough carbs. Like the carbs and I never struggle with protein. But that's what I'll like. That's like my cheat meal is I'll I'll do that and it's God, it's so good. I just I love it. Alex: What other w other snack stuff before we switch over to like the stereotypical lunch or traditional lunch? Aaron: just ⁓ dude, there's just so many protein stacks. Like, I'll show you. Hopefully, people are aren't just listening. ⁓ watch on YouTube. Like these, like there's there's this brand of Quest ⁓ protein bars. Quest stacks. 20 grams of protein, it's 200 calories. ⁓ tons of fiber. If you're missing out on fiber, dude, like the fiber on this was unreal. It's ⁓ sorry, it's probably. Alex: Quest stacks. Twenty grams of protein. What imagine if it's two hundred calories and only twenty grams of protein? Aaron: Where was the fiber when I was looking at it? ⁓ sorry, it's gonna be annoying because you hear this all the crunching. Maybe it has it in the thing. The dietary fiber. I can't find it. It was in the app when I put it in there. It's a lot. I can't tell you right now, but it was like way more than I thought it was gonna be. ⁓ 12. It's 12 grams. Twelve 12 grams of and I'll give you a little I'll give you a little warning on that. ⁓ Yeah y yeah, well it it Alex: Dietary fiber. Sheesh. Of dietary fiber? Be near toilet. Aaron: Don't be you can you don't have to be near your toilet, but don't be near anybody else. That's all I'm gonna say. Make sure you have good ventilation in whatever room you're at, or hopefully you're outside. ⁓ Alex: It's why it's why I stopped eating peanuts. That used to be like one of my fun little like snack things. I'm like, ⁓ my gosh, are you serious? Why? Why is this happening to me? Aaron: Ha ha ha. So it's but those taste like ⁓ if you ever had the Pop Tart like the brown sugar Pop Tarts, that like that's what it kind of tastes like to me. So there's just good, but there's just like and there's like a million different and if you don't like the processed food, which you know, I'm not saying you have to have processed everything. This is just like it's easy for me to eat and then I don't have think about it. ⁓ it's also super fast to track. But ⁓ just again go back to those recipes. There's tons of different recipes of stuff that you can you can make yourself. Like I said, that Greek yogurt thing. I'm I'm I'm doing an experiment with all the different flavors of because I have like the the the fillings that I have for it, or I guess the jello, yeah, the jello pudding fillings. I have a bunch of different flavors. So I have like pistachio, butterscotch, ⁓ chocolate. ⁓ it doesn't matter. I'm not gonna list them all, but there's a bunch. And so I just wanna see which one ends up being the best. And that's the one, yeah. Alex: Yeah. Aaron: And you could do like the the ninja creamy. You could make your own like ice cream, which is really good. I just the only thing do you have a creamy, Alex? Alex: We got rid of it because we didn't I don't remember what we didn't like about it. But we like I'd have to creamy the creamy. ⁓ I want it right now. Yep. That actually is why we got rid 'cause everyone has like has just raved about the creamy to us. It was like, we had it and then we got rid of it and I don't remember why. But I know that like Aaron: ⁓ you you have to freeze it and then you're like cause you're like, I want it right now and then you have to make it freeze it and then you have it the next day. It's it's That's that's that's why. And it's super loud. That's the other thing too. It's so loud when it's when it's like doing its creamy in. ⁓ but they are really it is really good. And it's it's one of those things because we bitch at people of like, I'm sorry, it takes it takes time to to prepare for this. Like, yes, I could probably make like ten of those little things and just have them in my freezer and get them out, which I need to start doing again, because those are really good. There's a ton of great recipes with that. So that's like kind of my snacky stuff. I just I try and find like you Alex, I try and find snacks that are fit within my macros that I enjoy and that I look forward to eating is is the secret. Alex: Yeah. I ⁓ which is really hard because like I also have like sodium goals. So those the snacks that I have are incredibly high in sodium. So I'm like, all right, well there goes my sodium for the day. It looks like it's gonna be a lot of as we'll get into here shortly, looks like it's gonna be a lot of plain chicken breast because we have essentially gone like over the total amount of sodium that we can have for a given day. But for snacks for me is just just find find what you can find that you enjoy. And I found what I found that I enjoy. The timing of it's like really perfect too. It's usually around like four thirty P. ⁓ when I'm having those. Aaron: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Alex: Like a little holdover as I go home before dinner and everything's great. ⁓ lunch. What do you do for lunch? Aaron: Yep. Yep. Exactly. ⁓ I I'm glad I can talk about yesterday's lunch. Cause this might be surprising for some people. My lunch is kind of just like it's usually whatever I had for like whatever we had for dinner the night before, I'll just have usually for lunch. Yesterday I had pizza for lunch. But the pizza that I had, so Domino's has this, ⁓ one of my one of my kids, their favorite pizza is Domino's, even though we have better places, whatever. But Domino's has this ⁓ it's like a spinach feta, and but it's on like a flatbread. Alex: Thin crust. actual fat flatbread. Yeah. Aaron: Yeah, it's like it's like ⁓ I think it's like thinner than thin crust. It's like a flat it it's it's cause I think they have a thin cr like a New York thin crust, and they have one even thinner than that. It's almost like on a cracker. ⁓ and it tastes great on a cracker. and so I I had that I had leftovers of that. It was like five hundred calories of that. Does it have the macros? ⁓ it does. God, this app's awesome. It was ⁓ fifty eight car fifty-eight grams of carbs, twenty grams of protein, twenty grams of fat. ⁓ there'd I say it was like four hundred and ninety-eight calories or four four ninety-seven. And it was like a a good amount because it's there's not a lot of bread, it's mostly just whatever. It was filling to me. I look forward to it. And of the kind of person I hate throwing pizza away because Alex and I grew up in a home where that never happened. We never threw pizza away. We would argue and fight about who got the last slice of pizza. Yes. So I to this day I can't do it. That was my that's my depression. ⁓ Alex: Who got the last slice? Aaron: Living through the the depression. No, old people who live through the depression just save everything. That's my thing. That's my my version of the depression is like I s anytime there's pizza, I'm like, it's it has to be eaten. I'm not throwing it away. Alex: ⁓ And then I I love the idea of ⁓ which is impossible of like going back in time and like having conversations with people in the depression. Like, so if I was gonna equate what you went through to what I went through, it's the d there only being one slice of pizza left after we had had a lot of pizza the day before and deciding who got to have it. Aaron: Ha ha ha. But we didn't, Alex. We got what with like two or three? We were like assigned, like, hey, everyone gets two or three slices. Yeah. Yes. Alex: ⁓ yeah, yeah, no, you're right. It was two or t two to three slices. You're right. Man, the stuff's not like you just kind of forget because like now I live in a life of a of a of abundance. Like yeah, ⁓ yeah, you're right. Aaron: ⁓ I don't forget it, Alex, and I tell my kids about it every time they don't want to have leftover pizza. Alex: I also had the the fact that essentially the my formative years of like essentially fourteen on. It was just me and Becky, so Aaron: ⁓ yeah, that's right. Yeah, you weren't you weren't living through the you weren't living through the depression. We were left th we lived through the depression, Alex. Alex: The real depression. Yeah, and I was a small child when so like if I was like seven when there were six of us living in the home, so yeah. Good times. ⁓ f Aaron: Yeah. But yeah, so that's what I had. I had that. ⁓ let's see, what else? I kind of throw weird stuff in here. I I how I organize it isn't the best. ⁓ and then I had a ⁓ I think you drink these too. Those those Chabani Greek yogurt drinks, like protein drinks. Do you have those? Yeah. I and I drank one of those. I yeah, I drank one of those as well. So that was not a crazy amount of of calories. I think it's like a hundred and twenty. ⁓ and then twenty grams of protein. Alex: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I love those. Aaron: So that was my kind of dessert for lunch. Alex: So lunch is my least amount of calorie meal because I know that I'm gonna have a very caloric heavy dinner. ⁓ so my lunch is usually just one, maybe one and a half, scoops of protein in water. Aaron: Mm-hmm. Alex: I'll just drink that. 120 calories, 25 grams of protein, just to hold me I actually lied when I said the snack thing. That actually holds me over to when I have my actual dinner, which everyone's gonna be like, what the fuck? ⁓ my actual dinner is usually sometime between three and four. It's between three Aaron: ⁓ yeah. Ha ha ha ha! Well, 'cause you go because you go to bed after Jeopardy. Alex: Okay, c well between three and four because I have to stop eating at six and I stopped drinking water at seven so that I can be and maybe I'm going too far so I can be in bed by eight to eight thirty. So that's when I ha like and I know I need to have that anyways, all of that food consumed. So lunch is pretty simple. Double standard whey protein, 120 calories, and then ⁓ that's usually around like eleven, and then I'm just eating a shiz ton around four at dinner time. Aaron: Smart. Yes. Nope. Nope. That's right. Yep. That's right. Alex: And dinner's pretty delightful. It depends on the day. Like I do add some variation to it. Like this is like my most, but it is almost always one of two things. It's either chicken or ground beef. And it's usually going to be about 150 grams to 200 grams of pro ⁓ of chicken. Or it's going to be about a hundred to a hundred and fifty grams of ground beef, just depending on what we're making. And my most common go-to is guerrero tortillas, two of them. Aaron: Mm-hmm. Alex: 75 grams of chicken or 60-ish grams of ⁓ of ground beef covered with 15, actually technically 30 grams of cheese and onion. Tillamook ⁓ sharp cheddar is the most common one, or Monterey Jack from Kroger brand. so actually let me look at what that is. What sucks is how I do this. It's like it's not conducive, but here we are. Aaron: What kind of cheese? Tillibuck? Mine's mine's well, it's not could it so like mine's so disorganized 'cause I actually just well just I d ⁓ all all I care about, Alex, is what it is at the end of the day. So kind of I'll throw stuff wherever. Alex: Yeah. Yes. So that usually ends up being about four hundred calories, what I just described. Some like between four depending on the day, between four hundred and four fifty. Let's just look at this chicken one. ⁓ this was twelve grams of fat. ⁓ something's wrong with the carbohydrates there. ⁓ 'cause it's missing the Guerrero tortillas. And then forty grams of protein, and then I'm pretty sure Guerrero is like thirty-six carbohydrates. And that's what I have for dinner. It's delightful. Simple. It is v much more variable. And usually for me, it's like Monday to Thursday. It's almost always the exact same thing every single day. Sometimes we'll have chili, but Aaron: Yeah. I think for dinner it's it always changes, right? Dinner's usually kind of different. It's usually whatever Yeah. Last night Is it yes? Is it normally like some sort of chicken based? Or I guess you said ⁓ ground beef too. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. ⁓ yesterday I had a delightful Korean ⁓ beef that we made. So that was delicious. So I did a Korean beef, and then the my thing is I I have to get a lot of carbs in. So I ate a crap ton of ⁓ white rice. ⁓ and then because ⁓ growing up we had I did you like rice growing up? I didn't like rice grow Alex: Chicken or ground beef? White race. Weeks 'cause it was Minute Made, I hated I didn't like Minute Made. Aaron: I hate I so from a long I I thought I didn't like rice. And I found out it's because Minute Made rice is horrible. ⁓ and then I had actual rice and I like rice. So luckily I like rice. ⁓ real rice. Minute made total dog shit. ⁓ and so I it was like I had 118 grams of white rice with ⁓ let's see 136 grams of that beef. And then I had there's like this like Kinder. You can get this at Costco. It has like a ⁓ like this Japanese ⁓ barbecue sauce. It's it's more like a teriyaki sauce. And I just put that, I put a little drizzle of that, mix it all together, eat it all up, and I still wasn't at my carbs. Alex: It You said it's you said you said it's by Kinder, or do you get like the Japanese barbecue sauce? Like the one that's like a different brand? Aaron: There is a j no. There it's that the one that I get is a c is called Kinder. Yeah. But you could get you could probably get the the Japanese one. I think it's the actual Japanese barbecue sauce one. ⁓ Alex: The kinder one. Okay. Just Yeah, when I was at lunch with someone over the weekend they do it's chicken rice with that Japanese barbecue sauce from Costco. Very similar. Aaron: Mm-hmm. It's good. Yeah, and it's it's I like it. It's just it nothing that I'm eating, I'm like not looking forward to eating. Cause it's like I you I we're gonna say this a million times. You have to have things you actually like eating or it's not gonna be sustainable. Like this is gonna probably gonna be a little different when I actually have to do like the prep part of my of my competition. Like I'm sure I'm just gonna be like, I'm just gonna be eating like boiled chicken and and rice when I'm doing like the crazy cut for 12 weeks or whatever. But in general, if you're not trying to do a show competition and you're just trying to maintain your weight or try and build build some muscle, make stuff that you enjoy eating so you can like look forward to doing it and then track everything. Because if I didn't track any of this, dude, like I I just know I would be way over. I was trying to give a good analogy of like how important try trying is. As I was driving home from the gym, and the only thing I could come up with is like, just imagine not knowing how much gas you have in your car. You just had to Guess. Like, how often are you gonna run out of gas on the side of the road because you have no idea you're not tracking that, you have no idea. it's probably gonna happen all the time. Or like or charging your phone. If you had no idea what your battery charge was, your b all of a sudden your phone just dies. This is how important tracking is. Like you have to track everything. You're gonna be off. I was way off on on when I started tracking. I was like, ⁓ my god, I was having way more calories than I than I thought this was. And so that's just it's just so important. It's so important that you track stuff. But I even after dinner, I I was super low I was actually low on my fats. I was like really low on fats and then still low on carbs and I think protein a little bit. But so you know what I did, Alex? I had ⁓ a little Reed's dairy ice cream and it was and by little I mean a giant bowl. No, it wasn't a giant bowl. Alex: Ooh. Aaron: But I I measured it out and I hit my macros and guess what? I weighed less t this morning than I did yesterday. So there you go. Alex: Still in business. Well, to the tracking point, tracking and having goals. Because like also the other part of like tracking isn't just like okay, cool, I'm tracking. I had five thousand calories today. Great, I tracked it. Now I now I know that I had five thousand calories today. Because Aaron: Yeah. I'm doing good. Alex: Because I was I I was and I apologize. I was paying attention, Aaron, but like I was going through 'cause I wanted to find 'cause I have chili. Like I as as I was going through, I like, ⁓ and then sometimes I'll make like chicken salads. I'll I'll have chicken salad and sandwiches. Like I'm seeing all these different things I make with the chicken that I have, and then I'm like, ⁓ that's right. Then I make like ⁓ I make Mexican pizzas with the ground beef sometimes. Like I do this, like it's got a nice thin layer of pinto beans on it, the cheese, et cetera, et cetera. ⁓ but then as I was going back further and further, back to like April or March, I see cheesy bean and rice burrito. Cheesy bean and rice burrito from Taco Bell. Cheesy bean and rice burrito. Cheesy bean and rice burrito. I'm like that. is like a good reminder of like the amount of and once again I'm doing seventy five hard everyone will get to see the b before and after pictures and be like, hmm, how much did you actually change? But what was but like what was keeping a like a lot of like that fat on and like not letting me see like the b major changes was it wasn't that I was having cheesy bean and rice burritos. It's that I was having so many of them in a short period of time or like I would order twenty of them because I'm like I want to get a good deal on Door Dash. I'm like, all well I guess I have to eat these in the next six days. And then it's just like a week of constantly Aaron: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Alex: Eating pretty crappy, terrible things like I'm having two of these a day. Yeah, that's only a thousand calories, but it's 150 grams of fat. It's like all of like these things that are going to keep the fat on the body. So you're tracking, but if you don't have like the goal that you're going towards, which was I was missing, like we talk about goals all the time, and I myself was even failing at that. And then once I had that goal, I'm like Aaron: Yeah. Yep. Alex: 54 grams of fat. Do I still go over that? Yes. But am I getting 150 grams of fat a day anymore? No. Like the max that I usually am going over is usually into like the 80s because I'm like aware and cognizant that I can't allow that to happen. And then I'm hitting my other correct. Yeah. But like I I think it's more, I just want to make sure people like tracking alone is good. Aaron: And you're trekking it and you know, like, yeah, yes. It's just one apart, yes. Alex: But what's better is having goals that can align with that as well. And then similar to you, like I've I'm a sucker for half-baked ice cream. I'm a sucker for what's that called? Cookie dough ice cream by Ben and Jerry's. So we'll have that every now and then. I still measure it out. I still see like what everything is. Like I I'm not even talking about, we didn't talk about our cheat meals too too much. I guess you may have with the pizza, but even that's not really a cheat meal per se. Like, right? Like so. Aaron: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. It it i I didn't consider it one. First of all, it's dominoes. That's not a cheat meal. Like it's just like like it has to be something I actually love. I don't love dominoes. Alex: Right. And so like we'll get from the place pizzeria. Shout out to the place pizzeria. ⁓ if you'd love to send me some free stuff, that'd be fantastic. We go there once a month. Sometimes ⁓ sometimes we go to Curry's Pizza, ⁓ Curry's Pizza, which I absolutely love too, and then sometimes we Aaron: ⁓ coupons not not hats. ⁓ I like curry pizza. Yeah. Alex: We make homemade pizza. Like, I don't know, I'm stuck on the pizza train, but like there are still like the I'll get a Costco hot dog ⁓ every now and then, which are horrible for you. So if you're having a Costco hot dog regularly, rethink your life. Like, there are still times like, you wanna know what? I ran, I did my seven miles today. I know my calorie difference is insane. I'm just gonna splurge on this 700-calorie hot dog that is has 12 to 1300 grams of sodium in it. Here we are. Aaron: Dude, ⁓ my god, yes. Yeah. But I mean that's the thing. Like the the the benefit of doing all of this though, man, is you can do that and still be fine. Like if ⁓ like I can go have a bender of a weekend and I've done this where I've and then I'm I'm I you know I'll gain some it's mostly water weight. It's not like not gaining 10 pounds of fat. But like I'll gain whatever. Let's say it's like a pound of fat because of the bender weekend I went on, which is probably not even that. But ⁓ and then Alex: Little treat. Aaron: You just get right back on track and you're fine. So you could still enjoy life. This isn't like you are you are stuck in just eating. But you wanna know what I'd actually be okay because 95% of the stuff I love eating anyway. So it's not like I'm it's some burden that I have to eat this way. ⁓ cheat meals for me is probably ⁓ like going out to eat. Just even then, but I'll still be pretty conscious about what I'm eating when I'm going out to eat. ⁓ I'll probably have like Instead, like you know how it is, Alex, when when we go out to dinner, we order one of each dessert because you want to try all of them. But ⁓ yeah, I'll take a bite or two and then that's that's about that's about it. And then I kind of throw that into the into the calculator, not the calculator, but the tracker just to kind of give you a rough estimate of where I'm at. Alex: You take a bite, maybe two. Well, that's what's fascinating to me is most of the people like Aaron and I have been talking about like this friend of mine that I have who he works out every single day and he doesn't show. Like he is strong. He is incredibly strong, but it doesn't show. Then like in conversation with him, he's like, Yeah, so I like usually we'll get DoorDash, I'll get a soda with the DoorDash. Like so you're getting a maybe one, two cheeseburgers plus the French fries. And like I'm only having two meals a day, and that's just the meals. I don't know what snacks he's. having like ⁓ so you mean you're having a three you're eating three thousand calories a day just just that alone I don't know what other stuff you're having ⁓ Aaron: Right. Yes. Alex: It it's really simple when like you're counting your the way that you're counting your macros like, ⁓ well I only had two meals, so I'm good. That's less than the standard three meals, four meals that a lot of other people are having. ⁓ it can be a little ⁓ misleading. Just like the Costco hot dog, which is I looked up five hundred and sixty calories, seventeen hundred ⁓ grams of ⁓ whatever, but you add the of sodium, you Aaron: I'm fine. Yeah. Yes. Sodium ⁓ my god Alex: And then you add on your condiments and whatnot or your soda that comes with it as well. And you're into that 700 range that I was talking about. It's just, it's really easy. Like it's it's there there are certain things, and maybe we'll do a podcast on this, like the secret killers. Like s I think everyone's pretty familiar with soda at this point, but like there's a lot of stuff that as I've been doing this, like, ⁓ Aaron: ⁓ yeah. Yes. Yeah. Alex: Like in a lot of it's fast food. Like ⁓ like to be honest, just like, ⁓ four hundred and eighty calories per burrito. All right, so that's Aaron: Yes. Yeah, dude, it's especially Taco Bell, man. It's so easy to go over. I only know this because we came back from that ⁓ that bike trip that we did a couple weeks ago. And I was like, I don't want to cook anything. Lorraine Lorraine didn't want to cook anything. I was like, let's just stop at Taco. I hadn't eaten a Taco Bell in forever. ⁓ so much so that I was like, what do they have here? ⁓ and I got I I was really, really hungry because it was a long road trip. Anyways, I got like four things. It was like Crunch Supreme. Cheesy bean rice burrito, a beef something burrito, and then some other new thing they had. I couldn't even finish it because it's so much food. ⁓ but before, I would have crushed it. Like I could have eaten all that. But the two things. First of all, I did track everything that was in there. It's like, good lord. That was like 2,500 calories. And so that's bad. And then I felt horrible after. I was just like, just ⁓ just that just that that full feeling and just like ⁓ like gross feeling. It w Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed every single bite for the for the three minutes, five minutes that I was eating it, and then miserable for the next couple hours after I was eating it. So Alex: Yeah, so go s go check out your fr ⁓ out your fridge, check out your pantries, get it full of like the stuff that you really enjoy. I'm a big food prepper, which I do just on Saturdays with that chicken or the ground beef or whatever we're talking about, and just set up yourself for success by just having things all ready for you. Aaron: Foods that you enjoy that stay within your macros. Yes. Alex: Yep. Awesome. Well, thank y'all for joining us today. ⁓ go be unsexy, and we will chat with y'all next
