Transcript
- 0:18Speaker 1: Brian Section, John Osier, we are in sunny, sunny southern Floridas.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We're getting ready for joint practice with the Dolphins today,
- 0:26Speaker 1: and it's always nice to actually see some competition against
- 0:29Speaker 1: another team that's not your own in practice.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Is Sonny come a sunny code for it. It's really hot.
- 0:35Speaker 2: It is really hot, and it's gonna be a really
- 0:37Speaker 2: challenging day, John, for these guys out here, because there
- 0:39Speaker 2: is not an outsome shade or wind. So not only
- 0:43Speaker 2: do you get the chance to compete against the Dolphins,
- 0:45Speaker 2: who have been a pretty good team the last couple
- 0:47Speaker 2: of years, but you're gonna have to battle your mental
- 0:49Speaker 2: state and the heat. So this is a really good
- 0:52Speaker 2: opportunity for Liam to get a lot of good work in.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Yeah, it's challenging, it's important, and it's interesting how the
- 0:57Speaker 3: league has changed where these joint practices. I get emails
- 1:01Speaker 3: from fans all the time talk about what they saw
- 1:03Speaker 3: in preseason games, and it sort of feels like a
- 1:06Speaker 3: disconnect almost because the coaches, the players, they consider a
- 1:11Speaker 3: lot of these practices as.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Important for evaluation and for preparation.
- 1:15Speaker 3: This is really important because it's the Jaguars only one
- 1:18Speaker 3: and it's in conditions that will test.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Them and if they get a lot of good work done,
- 1:21Speaker 2: I don't thinkny of us expect to see many starters
- 1:23Speaker 2: or even key backups on Saturday night.
- 1:26Speaker 5: Today is essentially the third preseason game.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Big day, all right, to do our big things, and
- 1:30Speaker 1: big thing number one is joint practice. We talked a
- 1:33Speaker 1: little bit about it just now, but Coach Camp talked
- 1:35Speaker 1: earlier this week about what's important about joint practice and
- 1:39Speaker 1: what the coaches get out of it.
- 1:43Speaker 6: I think it's a great anytime he's going against somebody else,
- 1:45Speaker 6: you know, it definitely raises the level of intensity. And
- 1:48Speaker 6: I don't care what anybody says. You're out there competing
- 1:50Speaker 6: against somebody else. You've got the opportunity to see your
- 1:54Speaker 6: team against a different opponent you all, and that excites
- 1:57Speaker 6: the guys. I think it always had practice is always
- 2:00Speaker 6: have a great energy. In my opinion, you know, or
- 2:03Speaker 6: use your physical or exciting and the guys are always
- 2:05Speaker 6: excited to get out there and competing at somebody else.
- 2:08Speaker 4: I like that, you know.
- 2:09Speaker 6: I think it's a good thing.
- 2:12Speaker 7: Right, you touched on it a little bit.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I think just going against some other people that aren't
- 2:15Speaker 1: your teammates that you've been looking at for three straight
- 2:17Speaker 1: weeks is helpful. Also, coach cam familiar with the setup
- 2:20Speaker 1: down here is coach here before coming to the Jags,
- 2:23Speaker 1: So hopefully a decent dynamic.
- 2:25Speaker 7: We know the Dolphins have been doing a lot of.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Joint practices, so not sure what they're going to bring
- 2:29Speaker 1: to the table on their end because they might be
- 2:31Speaker 1: a little tired.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Oft the sure, I'm sure they are. It's the chance
- 2:34Speaker 2: to get a matchup that you can't get at home.
- 2:35Speaker 2: So you've got Tyson Campbell, who's your lead corner, Well,
- 2:38Speaker 2: we gonna match him up against today. If everything works,
- 2:40Speaker 2: if he practices, we're going to give him a shot
- 2:41Speaker 2: at Tyreek Hill, right. I mean there's there's matchups like
- 2:44Speaker 2: that that every coach wants to get between their key
- 2:47Speaker 2: players and a really good player on the other side.
- 2:50Speaker 2: So I don't want to say it's contrived, but it's
- 2:52Speaker 2: controlled and they're going to look at these specific matchups
- 2:55Speaker 2: and be able to gauge where their guys are.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah, pass rushers have used their move on their teammates
- 3:00Speaker 3: for a couple of weeks. Now now it's time to
- 3:02Speaker 3: use it on somebody else. So that's an area always
- 3:05Speaker 3: to watch his one on one pass rush. Good work
- 3:08Speaker 3: in that area for guys who really don't get that
- 3:11Speaker 3: much of it outside training.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Game.
- 3:13Speaker 1: It's gonna our big thing number two, which is swap.
- 3:15Speaker 1: We have official details of that trade from earlier in
- 3:18Speaker 1: the week that we've heard about as a new player
- 3:20Speaker 1: comes to town. Liam Cohen talked a little bit yesterday
- 3:23Speaker 1: two days ago. Excuse me about the trade and why
- 3:25Speaker 1: they made the move.
- 3:29Speaker 8: Just look at the guy that we played against twice
- 3:32Speaker 8: last year in Tampa that I've got, you know, respect
- 3:35Speaker 8: for as a vet that's you know, played a lot
- 3:37Speaker 8: of meaningful downs in this league, has won Super Bowls.
- 3:41Speaker 8: You know, he's been on teams that know how to win.
- 3:43Speaker 8: And also there's no question he can help us in
- 3:46Speaker 8: the middle there at times. So you know, he's hard
- 3:49Speaker 8: to double team and move in there at times, and
- 3:51Speaker 8: also has some ability to kind of redirect and has
- 3:55Speaker 8: some initial quick So I do believe he'll help add
- 3:57Speaker 8: some some meaningful competition and depth in that.
- 4:02Speaker 1: So that sends offensive lineman Luke Fortner to New Orleans.
- 4:04Speaker 1: We get Colin Sanders in return. Defensive tackle John went
- 4:09Speaker 1: through right after the game couldn't get it done in
- 4:11Speaker 1: time to swap him before the plane left. But it's official.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Now Saunders is in town. What does that bring to
- 4:15Speaker 1: the defense.
- 4:15Speaker 3: He was playing Fortnite with his boys. Look, it gives
- 4:20Speaker 3: you space, seating in the middle, It gives you bulk
- 4:23Speaker 3: in the middle for and it was a I'm gonna
- 4:27Speaker 3: say this right, it's not an insult to Luke Fortner,
- 4:29Speaker 3: but within the context of this team, it was something
- 4:31Speaker 3: for nothing because Luke Fortner was probably not gonna I
- 4:35Speaker 3: don't know if he was gonna make it, but he
- 4:36Speaker 3: wasn't gonna play significantly. So they got depth on the
- 4:38Speaker 3: defensive line. Good trade and no matter what it gives you,
- 4:42Speaker 3: it gives you something.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Well, it gives you a player that brings a lot
- 4:44Speaker 2: of energy. And that's one of the things that Liam
- 4:46Speaker 2: Cohen's been talking about.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Energy joy.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I mean, you saw the press conference he talked about,
- 4:51Speaker 2: you know how glad he was to be there and
- 4:53Speaker 2: how much he likes Teal now and he's one where
- 4:56Speaker 2: he's been and it helps to have a guy like
- 4:59Speaker 2: that on your defense who whatever role he plays, certainly
- 5:04Speaker 2: brings a winning perspective and a lot of energy and.
- 5:07Speaker 1: A good emphasis on the fact that it's going to
- 5:09Speaker 1: take everybody if you want to have a winning team.
- 5:10Speaker 1: As he touched upon, it's not just the stars. It's
- 5:13Speaker 1: got to be everybody pulling them in the same direction.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So it's good to have another person like that in
- 5:16Speaker 1: a locker up.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Final.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Big thing today is going to be the preseason finale.
- 5:21Speaker 1: As we mentioned, we don't know exactly what we're going
- 5:23Speaker 1: to see out there in terms of players. For I
- 5:26Speaker 1: believe the Dolphins are going to play some starters. We're
- 5:28Speaker 1: not probably playing much of any right.
- 5:30Speaker 5: They haven't announced it, but so I think it's clear.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Well, anybody who's seen preseason Week three lately, yeah, knows
- 5:36Speaker 3: there are moments where you look out there and you're
- 5:40Speaker 3: seeing guys who're not gonna be on the team.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Feels like that's going to be the case.
- 5:43Speaker 2: A while on Saturday, I noticed when with Liam Cohen
- 5:47Speaker 2: talked this week a lot about the running game, When
- 5:49Speaker 2: the quarterback talked a lot about the running game, When
- 5:51Speaker 2: wide receivers talk a lot about the running game, I
- 5:53Speaker 2: think we're getting the idea they're going to get through
- 5:55Speaker 2: this preseason game. They're going to run the ball a
- 5:57Speaker 2: lot and get onto the regular season.
- 5:59Speaker 1: It's time at this time, Saya here on jack Zam,
- 6:01Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about some names you need to know
- 6:03Speaker 1: when we come back after the break. Jag Zamber brought
- 6:15Speaker 1: to you by Field's Auto Group, Seafield's first Jacksonville's premier
- 6:18Speaker 1: luxury auto group. You can head over to Fields Auto
- 6:21Speaker 1: dot com. Welcome back in. We're at joint practice in
- 6:24Speaker 1: Miami today and before the break I said, we're gonna
- 6:26Speaker 1: give you some names on the roster that you need
- 6:28Speaker 1: to know in terms of importance. There's a lot of
- 6:30Speaker 1: new faces. Not all of them are new, but you
- 6:33Speaker 1: might need to know because their role might be different. So, Brian,
- 6:35Speaker 1: who's someone on the roster you wanted to talk about?
- 6:37Speaker 2: Antonio Johnson Two reasons. He's had a great camp. He
- 6:41Speaker 2: came on at the end of twenty three is rookie season,
- 6:43Speaker 2: had a really big game in Cleveland, and then last
- 6:46Speaker 2: year was lost, like so many guys were in that defense.
- 6:48Speaker 2: But he's had a terrific training camp. Whether it's coming
- 6:51Speaker 2: into the hole and stuffing the run or in coverage,
- 6:54Speaker 2: I think he's had a terrific camp. But I think
- 6:55Speaker 2: more than that, he's emblematic John of the young players
- 7:00Speaker 2: have it to this point developed on the roster, and
- 7:02Speaker 2: I think that Liam and his coaching staff have done
- 7:04Speaker 2: a nice job.
- 7:05Speaker 5: At getting something from some of those.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Caliber of players that we quite honestly, we're sure they
- 7:11Speaker 2: had left and you know, they.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Had Antonio coming in, and they feel like they've got
- 7:15Speaker 3: a guy who if they put him in the right
- 7:17Speaker 3: situation with his eyes on the quarterback, which is what
- 7:20Speaker 3: you can do in this defense, it's in Trantonio's advantage.
- 7:23Speaker 3: They feel like he's a playmaker. I don't think he starts,
- 7:26Speaker 3: but he's gonna have a role and all the people
- 7:28Speaker 3: who've sort of been waiting for the life to come
- 7:30Speaker 3: on might be a chance for light to come on
- 7:32Speaker 3: for this guy.
- 7:33Speaker 5: He's had one of a handful of guys that you
- 7:34Speaker 5: could talk about in that role.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I went with Hunter Long.
- 7:38Speaker 3: You know, I don't know that he's a guy who
- 7:40Speaker 3: fans at the end of the season are gonna look
- 7:42Speaker 3: back and say, yeah, John, remember that guy. You know,
- 7:44Speaker 3: I don't think he's gonna stand out to that degree,
- 7:47Speaker 3: but people have been looking, Okay, who's the second tight
- 7:50Speaker 3: end Hunter Long? You guys have seen it once every
- 7:53Speaker 3: few practices makes a play down field. He can matter
- 7:58Speaker 3: in the receiving game. He's not gonna be bretton Strain,
- 8:00Speaker 3: but he gives them an element.
- 8:02Speaker 4: You know, people sort of.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Thought they overlooked that spot because they hadn't heard of
- 8:06Speaker 3: some of these guys long in month.
- 8:08Speaker 4: I think they're okay in the backup.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Tight end ere If he had the over the shoulder
- 8:12Speaker 2: catching redcone in New Orleans, it was beautiful.
- 8:14Speaker 5: If you get that from him eight or ten times,
- 8:16Speaker 5: get here, Yeah, you're being thrilled with that.
- 8:18Speaker 7: Absolutely tremendous to see from him.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I went TB as well, I went went jarr And Jones,
- 8:22Speaker 1: and that's because partially Tyson Campbell has been dealing with
- 8:25Speaker 1: an injury. We know he's dealt with injuries in the
- 8:27Speaker 1: past couple of years. In terms of cornerback, especially with
- 8:30Speaker 1: Travis Hunter splitting time, Jardon Jones' role is going to
- 8:33Speaker 1: be important. He's going to play outside, I think some
- 8:35Speaker 1: more than we've seen him do before.
- 8:36Speaker 7: He's moved around. He's certainly capable.
- 8:39Speaker 1: He's got the energy for it, the the personality to
- 8:41Speaker 1: play CB, that's for sure. And I think given this opportunity,
- 8:45Speaker 1: I think he'll take advantage of it.
- 8:46Speaker 2: He made a great play on the practice field the
- 8:47Speaker 2: other day against Brian Thomas Junior.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Talk about standing up right against that guy.
- 8:52Speaker 2: And he got up just with the biggest smile on
- 8:55Speaker 2: his face and you could see it through the face
- 8:56Speaker 2: mask and the visor.
- 8:58Speaker 5: His confidence level, kay is really high.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Yeah, he's another guy they didn't know what they had
- 9:02Speaker 3: coming in because you don't know what you have coming
- 9:04Speaker 3: in on guys.
- 9:05Speaker 4: I don't know that they knew if he was going
- 9:07Speaker 4: to fit.
- 9:08Speaker 5: Uh.
- 9:08Speaker 3: He has been in Jordan Lewis's pocket. He's going to
- 9:12Speaker 3: learn from the right guy. I think he has shown
- 9:15Speaker 3: them to borrow the phrase that he's intangibly rich and
- 9:17Speaker 3: wants it.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Uh.
- 9:19Speaker 3: He has become a guy that they look at and say,
- 9:22Speaker 3: this is the kind of guy you need to improve
- 9:25Speaker 3: a program. Right, the guys that you don't know what
- 9:27Speaker 3: they're going to be coming in and fit you better,
- 9:29Speaker 3: You've got to have that if you're going to turn
- 9:31Speaker 3: things around quickly.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Let's talk quickly about joint practice. Obviously they're getting underway
- 9:35Speaker 1: here behind us with the Dolphins.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Uh.
- 9:37Speaker 1: The last time we were in Miami felt like a
- 9:39Speaker 1: bit of a turning point. Unfortunately for the season, because
- 9:41Speaker 1: it felt like.
- 9:43Speaker 3: When your turning point is weak, you got to point
- 9:49Speaker 3: it out.
- 9:49Speaker 5: People boiler alert. It wasn't good in twenty twenty three.
- 9:52Speaker 2: They were They showed no resilience down the stretch at all,
- 9:55Speaker 2: and then they when when Travis heat again fumbled into
- 9:59Speaker 2: the they still had a lead a two touchdown.
- 10:02Speaker 7: That was it mentally right, but you.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Could I remember saying, oh, I think this is it.
- 10:07Speaker 2: And of course the rest of the season went that way.
- 10:09Speaker 5: So it was a turning point. You're exactly right.
- 10:11Speaker 1: So let's make it the turning point the other way
- 10:13Speaker 1: this time around. How things Let's put it this way,
- 10:15Speaker 1: how things have changed in the year. This is completely
- 10:17Speaker 1: different spot this team is in.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it feels like there's hope everything so far in
- 10:22Speaker 3: the preseason, Brian, there's been enough things that you like
- 10:26Speaker 3: their strides.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Forward that you feel like they're on course.
- 10:28Speaker 3: I'm not going to predict a regular season, right, but
- 10:31Speaker 3: it feels like the direction we all thought it was
- 10:33Speaker 3: going right when they hired the guys in January February.
- 10:38Speaker 4: They still feel like they're striding in the right direction.
- 10:41Speaker 3: I don't know if this day's gonna make me feel
- 10:44Speaker 3: differently or forward. It's not that big a day, but
- 10:48Speaker 3: you feel like they're going in the right direction on
- 10:50Speaker 3: a lot of fronts.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I didn't know what to make of the coaching staff
- 10:53Speaker 2: when they hired. I knew what Liam Colwan was, but
- 10:56Speaker 2: I didn't know a staff. But you know, Kyle Is,
- 10:58Speaker 2: we've gone through this course of the pre season, I've
- 11:00Speaker 2: just been more and more impressed listening to him, watching
- 11:03Speaker 2: him and watching his team. I think this coaching staff
- 11:06Speaker 2: is the reason that I have such great hope for
- 11:08Speaker 2: where this team is capable.
- 11:10Speaker 5: It's a better roster. It's not the best roster.
- 11:12Speaker 2: In the AFC, but it's good enough that if this
- 11:15Speaker 2: coaching staff gets from them what I think we could
- 11:18Speaker 2: be after Thanksgiving talking about if this, then that scenarios
- 11:22Speaker 2: of how the Jaguars are competing for the AFC South title,
- 11:25Speaker 2: and I know, coming off four and thirteen, some people
- 11:27Speaker 2: would say, how's that possible.
- 11:28Speaker 5: It's entirely possible.
- 11:29Speaker 7: The South is always in hand.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I feel like a little bit, at least right now,
- 11:33Speaker 1: say with us one more break and then we'll tell
- 11:34Speaker 1: you what we've got coming up for preseason Game number
- 11:36Speaker 1: three on Saturday, Jags zam is brought to you by

- 11:58Speaker 1: is furniture for fans. Welcome back our final segment here
- 12:04Speaker 1: from Jags am on location in Miami for joint practice.
- 12:08Speaker 1: So hopefully we'll get a little little action here in
- 12:11Speaker 1: team segments against the Dolphins. See a little bit of
- 12:14Speaker 1: something from the starters, because John, as far as we know,
- 12:16Speaker 1: we're not going to see a ton of the starters,
- 12:17Speaker 1: if any standard read.
- 12:19Speaker 4: We don know that for sure, but.
- 12:22Speaker 3: History says that's the trend that you just don't play
- 12:26Speaker 3: a lot of guys in that final game. So yeah, Brian,
- 12:29Speaker 3: I think you want to see I think they'll run
- 12:32Speaker 3: a little bit today within the context of what you
- 12:35Speaker 3: can do in this sort of thing. You want to
- 12:37Speaker 3: see the Edgreshers win a little bit and you want
- 12:39Speaker 3: to see Trevor look at confident like you have so far.
- 12:42Speaker 3: I guess you just want to sort of see the
- 12:44Speaker 3: steps continue.
- 12:45Speaker 2: I want to see the running game, like you just said,
- 12:46Speaker 2: because the last two years that's been a storyline that
- 12:48Speaker 2: we have just hammered. And the other side of it is,
- 12:50Speaker 2: I think the defensive line. I don't know how many
- 12:52Speaker 2: snaps that Eric Armstead's gonna get or Mason Smith, both
- 12:55Speaker 2: of them practiced yesterday, but to watch those guys work
- 12:58Speaker 2: up front, especially Treyvon and Josh, I'm excited to watch
- 13:01Speaker 2: the defensive mind today.
- 13:03Speaker 1: All Right, we'll have our reports on Jaguars dot Com
- 13:05Speaker 1: after practice, and of course we'll have you covered on
- 13:07Speaker 1: game day as well. Tune into Jaguars Radio and the
- 13:09Speaker 1: Jaguars broadcast
- 13:11Speaker 7: And enjoy the final preseason game of the season.
