- 0:00Speaker 1: Development camp rolls on as we're joined now by cracking
- 0:02Speaker 1: Ford and prospect Nathan Ville. Nev and Nathan After coming
- 0:05Speaker 1: out of the OHL from this last season, how closer
- 0:08Speaker 1: does your mind and body feel now as far as
- 0:10Speaker 1: being ready for the pros.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Yeah, obviously I went to the AHL the end of
- 0:14Speaker 2: last year, so obviously I have a couple of games
- 0:17Speaker 2: in my belt there, so I think I'm have a
- 0:18Speaker 2: really smooth transition there because I know what's coming from me,
- 0:20Speaker 2: and obviously my junior coaches helped me get there and
- 0:23Speaker 2: play a pro game when juniors.
- 0:25Speaker 1: The previous season gave you a chance to dip your
- 0:27Speaker 1: toe in the waters, so to speak, for the AHHL,
- 0:30Speaker 1: did you kind of have your welcome to the AHL
- 0:32Speaker 1: moment as far as what you figured out back then
- 0:34Speaker 1: in Coachella?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, obviously my first AHL gat mexpot Scott Saburn,
- 0:38Speaker 2: So obviously that was my welcome to the AHL moment. Obviously,
- 0:42Speaker 2: it's a tough guy in the league and all the
- 0:44Speaker 2: guys we're saying that not to play Scott Saburn, but
- 0:47Speaker 2: I mean, if you're going to do something to my teammates,
- 0:49Speaker 2: then obviously I'm gonna step up with them and be
- 0:50Speaker 2: a team player.
- 0:51Speaker 3: So that's what I did.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Now, what was the feeling like, the reaction like when
- 0:56Speaker 1: you got back to the bench eventually, and what was
- 0:58Speaker 1: your phone like as well when you first got chance
- 1:00Speaker 1: to check it after the game?
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah, my phone was blowing up. I mean everyone is
- 1:04Speaker 2: saying how dumb I was, but at the same time
- 1:06Speaker 2: they they liked how gutsy I was. So obviously that's
- 1:09Speaker 2: the game. I like to players like to be on
- 1:11Speaker 2: the edge there, and I mean I like to have
- 1:13Speaker 2: the guts to do anything for my team. And obviously
- 1:15Speaker 2: when I get back to the bench, the guys, I
- 1:17Speaker 2: mean they all respect me. I mean not a lot
- 1:19Speaker 2: of guys on that team would obviously want to fight
- 1:22Speaker 2: Scott Saburn, but I mean he did something to my teammates,
- 1:26Speaker 2: so I kind of had to and I wanted to
- 1:27Speaker 2: at the same time.
- 1:28Speaker 3: So I was good.
- 1:28Speaker 1: As far as guys who suir or as far as
- 1:30Speaker 1: guys who play this game tough, can you name one
- 1:33Speaker 1: line in the in the NHL that you would put
- 1:35Speaker 1: out there if someone's life depended on it.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Uh, Honestly, the Chucks, they're Matthew and Brady Matthew Bray, Kachucks.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I mean, obviously they have Marsha on their line too,
- 1:45Speaker 2: So I just want to be a line that I
- 1:47Speaker 2: kind of want to be on. I want to be
- 1:48Speaker 2: a player in the league that everyone hates to play against,
- 1:50Speaker 2: but everyone wants on their team.
- 1:51Speaker 3: I mean Marsham and Kachuck brothers. I mean, no one.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I don't think anyone that doesn't play hockey hates the
- 1:56Speaker 2: way they play and doesn't like them as a as
- 1:58Speaker 2: a player. But I want to be of those guys
- 2:00Speaker 2: because I mean, I'm like the way they play and
- 2:01Speaker 2: someone has to do that role, and I mean I
- 2:03Speaker 2: enjoy fulfilling that role.
- 2:05Speaker 1: What's the bigger key as far as toughness at your level?
- 2:08Speaker 1: Is it more of a mental thing or is it
- 2:09Speaker 1: more of a physical thing.
- 2:11Speaker 3: It's a little bit of both. You can't cross the line.
- 2:13Speaker 2: You don't want to hurt your team when you're playing
- 2:15Speaker 2: on the edge like that, But at the same time,
- 2:18Speaker 2: it's also a little bit of physicality physically wise. So
- 2:22Speaker 2: obviously it's me bumps and bruises throughout the way you play,
- 2:25Speaker 2: just because of how physical and how competitive you are.
- 2:27Speaker 2: But at the same time, you don't want to cross
- 2:29Speaker 2: the line in a concert team to go down a player.
- 2:32Speaker 1: How better of a player do you feel that you
- 2:34Speaker 1: are now versus one year ago.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Honestly, developing the cap and being up in the pros
- 2:41Speaker 2: a bit, I've kind of like showed me how it
- 2:43Speaker 2: is to be a pro. So obviously in the summer
- 2:45Speaker 2: you kind of learn that you can't do some things
- 2:47Speaker 2: that you used to do as a teenager. By the
- 2:50Speaker 2: same time, just like physically mentally wise, it's just like,
- 2:54Speaker 2: whoever wants that's gonna make it.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Everyone is good enough to play in the NHL. That's
- 2:57Speaker 3: I camp, that's why they're here.
- 2:58Speaker 2: But it's whoever is gonna have the will, And obviously
- 3:01Speaker 2: that's the kind of my goal in my life is
- 3:02Speaker 2: to play pro and playing the NHL. So I just
- 3:05Speaker 2: keep trying to fulfill that dream and just keep pushing.
- 3:07Speaker 1: What's the bigger discipline step for you than at this
- 3:09Speaker 1: level versus what you could do as a teenager. Is
- 3:11Speaker 1: it more of the workouts or is it more of
- 3:13Speaker 1: your nutrition?
- 3:14Speaker 3: Honestly, it's a bit of both.
- 3:16Speaker 2: You can get away not eat and as healthy and
- 3:17Speaker 2: juniors and kind of being that party party a and.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Them all a little more.
- 3:22Speaker 2: But obviously in the pros, I mean you have to
- 3:24Speaker 2: be more dial than ever. Everyone's playing to put food
- 3:28Speaker 2: on the table for their families, so obviously if you
- 3:31Speaker 2: want to take someone's job, and it's not easy, but
- 3:33Speaker 2: at the end of the day, you're all playing for yourself.
- 3:35Speaker 1: That's what's your favorite game day meal?
- 3:38Speaker 2: I like to do a little bit of chicken and rice.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Just keep it simple. I don't like to eat too much.
- 3:42Speaker 2: You like to play kind of on a light stomach,
- 3:44Speaker 2: and that's usual all I eat.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Name your favorite cheat meal.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Then for one day, favorite teamal has to be ice cream.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I like chocolate.
- 3:52Speaker 2: People have chocolate ice cream, and obviously I haven't been
- 3:54Speaker 2: able to have that for a little bit.
- 3:56Speaker 1: So with the OHL, what's the greatest piece of advice
- 3:59Speaker 1: that a code ever gave you as far as playing
- 4:01Speaker 1: this game?
- 4:02Speaker 2: Honestly, I've had a ton of great coaches in the OHL,
- 4:06Speaker 2: but the one would be just don't take really anything
- 4:09Speaker 2: for granted.
- 4:10Speaker 3: A lot of people are amazing.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Players in the OHL, and then they come to pro
- 4:14Speaker 2: and I think they're better than they actually are. So
- 4:17Speaker 2: obviously I just keep putting my head down working and
- 4:19Speaker 2: I'm hoping to be able to make the jump here.
- 4:21Speaker 1: What's your biggest takeaway with seeing Chase Reid and Jacobrien
- 4:24Speaker 1: on the ice in your same league from this last season?
- 4:27Speaker 2: Also chasing a really skilled defenseman he went down with
- 4:30Speaker 2: overall for a reason, he hasn't really been he wasn't
- 4:32Speaker 2: in the OHL for too long, but I we had
- 4:34Speaker 2: some good battles with him, So, I mean, obviously is
- 4:38Speaker 2: a player that you don't want to have the puck
- 4:40Speaker 2: on his stick, and the same with Jacobrian. All our
- 4:43Speaker 2: priscust was make sure he doesn't have the puck on
- 4:45Speaker 2: his stick because he'll make you look silly. So that's
- 4:48Speaker 2: kind of the goal when you play them, was just
- 4:50Speaker 2: keep it away from them and we should be good.
- 4:52Speaker 1: What was your toughest bust right ever in the OHL?
- 4:54Speaker 2: For me, it'd be a Sagna. It's nine hours from Sudbury,
- 4:58Speaker 2: so it's a far bus trip. Then obviously insideb you
- 5:02Speaker 2: have a bad winter, so sometimes there's some bus malfunctions
- 5:06Speaker 2: that happen throughout the road trips.
- 5:08Speaker 1: So what's the one thing that you can't live without
- 5:10Speaker 1: on a bus trip?
- 5:11Speaker 3: I got a couple. Obviously.
- 5:13Speaker 2: A pillow is one of the biggest things, cards, my iPhone,
- 5:17Speaker 2: poker chips. I mean, I'd like to play poker on
- 5:19Speaker 2: the bus kind of just kills a lot of times.
- 5:20Speaker 1: So what's the biggest key for the ideal pillow? Firm
- 5:23Speaker 1: pillow or a soft pillow.
- 5:24Speaker 3: I'm over a soft pillow, soft.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Pillow kind of guy. Yeah, take take me back through
- 5:29Speaker 1: now being around Seattle. If you can scan the city
- 5:32Speaker 1: and there's a lot of places that you can go,
- 5:35Speaker 1: whether you want to go in the city, hiking, fishing, golf,
- 5:39Speaker 1: you name it. What's your ideal Seattle day around here?
- 5:42Speaker 2: Uh, Honestly, our days are pretty busy. They like to
- 5:46Speaker 2: keep us busy, which is nice. So they kind of
- 5:48Speaker 2: plan our days out for us so which is which
- 5:50Speaker 2: is perfect. But for me, I like to go take
- 5:53Speaker 2: the train as a train coaster hotel. We'd like to
- 5:54Speaker 2: go downtown and kind of go around the areawhere, around
- 5:57Speaker 2: the fish market. We all select the law. I'll love
- 6:00Speaker 2: to go like dinners, like have to see the ale
- 6:02Speaker 2: dinner places downtown and obviously Chipper that's close to here.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Nathan, thank you, thank you,
