- 0:00Well, no one wants to hire the guy that just got sued for for
- 0:034.5 billion dollars, $4.6 billion, right?
- 0:06That's not but I went. First time it's fine, but the
- 0:08second time that's when they're. Like.
- 0:09We're not hiring this guy. Hello Delulu Aziz, and welcome
- 0:27back to another episode of Delulu with Ryan Liu and a very
- 0:31special welcome to today's guest.
- 0:32He is probably our most unexpected guest here on Delulu
- 0:35thus far, but regardless, we are very excited to have him.
- 0:39Please welcome Mr. David Maris of Wall Street Beats.
- 0:43Thank you for having me, but just to be clear, I was invited.
- 0:45I'm not that unexpected like you did expect me to be here.
- 0:48No, you actually walked onto set and then asked to be a part of
- 0:51my show and I said I guess we have a free episode we can do.
- 0:54That is not true, but I'll go along with it.
- 0:56That's. Why?
- 0:56I mean, that's what I was told. I don't know if someone, I don't
- 1:00know if someone lied to me. Well, Mr. David Maris, I would
- 1:03love to give a cute, quirky little intro about you.
- 1:06However, unfortunately your career span is a lot of big girl
- 1:11words that I do not know, so I'm going to pass it to you.
- 1:14I know you do something very important and cool with stocks
- 1:17and finance. Sure.
- 1:18So I was the number one rated pharmaceutical analyst for six
- 1:23years. I was number two or three for
- 1:25another dozen years. And so I picked stocks.
- 1:29I wrote research about stocks, pharmaceuticals specifically,
- 1:33pharmaceuticals specifically. And then I worked on the buy
- 1:36side, which is on the investment side side.
- 1:39I managed a portfolio of a few $100 million and then I went
- 1:43back to the sell side recently retired a few years ago to start
- 1:47Wall Street Beats, which is just a group of us that talk about
- 1:51stocks, so a lot of stocks. A lot of big words that Elmo
- 1:55does not know, but all very impressive.
- 1:57That is super cool. Well, with this career that
- 2:00you're spanning that you just discussed, this is over the
- 2:02course of 1020 years. Yeah, about 2025 years and.
- 2:07Now you're focusing on Wall Street beats, Yes?
- 2:09So walk us through what Wall Street's beats is.
- 2:11So Wall Street beats is a group of about 10 of us that have all
- 2:14had careers in finance. Some are still at jobs like
- 2:17managing a hedge fund or and we talk about stocks and we educate
- 2:21people about how to invest. We talk about, well, should you
- 2:24invest all at once? Should which, which sectors?
- 2:27Since I do pharmaceuticals, I talk about healthcare stocks.
- 2:29Someone else who was the number one ranked oil and gas analyst,
- 2:32he talks about oil and gas stocks.
- 2:34Someone else who worked at Fidelity talks about macro
- 2:37things. So.
- 2:37You guys are well versed. Yeah.
- 2:39So unlike a lot of other places where you don't know who you're
- 2:42getting, they're just somebody on a screen.
- 2:44We're experts that have had had some level of high achievement
- 2:49in our fields. Also somebody on a screen.
- 2:51Yes, that's true too. Experts in your in your
- 2:54professions for that. Where you can look us up and you
- 2:56can see that, OK, we're not just saying it, We've done it.
- 2:59Right, you're right. And then it's a team of you said
- 3:0110 of you. Yes.
- 3:02And we talk about trades that we're actually doing.
- 3:04We're not talking about, you know, OK, this is theoretically
- 3:06what we could be doing. OK, awesome.
- 3:08Well, David, we before you asked to come to set when you walked
- 3:13on to set and I wanted to be on the show.
- 3:15We actually did meet prior in New York City.
- 3:18I was in New York. I haven't been in New York in, I
- 3:21want to say years since I lived in New York.
- 3:22I haven't been in New York. And I was my first time back and
- 3:24I met David at a press event that we were doing for passes,
- 3:29which is the platform that we were both creators on.
- 3:32And that was, it was a great introduction, great meeting you.
- 3:35And that's really what spurred this so.
- 3:37Oh my gosh, absolutely. And being able to talk to you
- 3:39there and like getting to know you, you were, it was so it was
- 3:42so unexpected to me because I, I was familiar with Wall Street
- 3:45beats. Of course, you're all over
- 3:47passes, but I didn't know you know more or enough about it.
- 3:51And you talked to me about it and you talked to me about your
- 3:53own journey with it. And then also how you ended up
- 3:56on passes, how I ended up on passes and we chit out about it
- 3:58was really lovely. Yeah, it's, it's funny when you,
- 4:01when you meet someone who's outside of your, your circle,
- 4:04all of a sudden your circle gets so much bigger.
- 4:06You start to learn things, you start to see things differently.
- 4:09And so likewise, I really enjoyed meeting you.
- 4:11So no, seriously, it was that was actually I think my favorite
- 4:14thing about that trip was being able to talk to you just because
- 4:16I felt like you were really smart and nice and insightful
- 4:19and I felt like I learned a lot from you.
- 4:21You actually brought up something to me because I was
- 4:22telling you about the content I do and I was giving him the
- 4:25exclusive T Lulu on to Lulu Ryan Liu, which had not come out yet.
- 4:29The manifestation podcast. And then we discussed a little
- 4:31bit about your own personal journey, whether it's with a
- 4:34manifestation or creating the life that you wanted for
- 4:36yourself. You mentioned a book that you
- 4:38read that really like kicks your ass into gear.
- 4:41Yeah, so I didn't really tell a lot of people this in my career,
- 4:44but I'm happy to now that to help to help other people.
- 4:48You know, there were two books, both by Tony Robbins.
- 4:50One was called Unlimited Power 1 was Awaken the Giant Within.
- 4:54And it's very similar to a manifestation approach that you
- 4:57take, which isn't necessarily like, oh, wish something and it
- 5:01will happen. It's and you said this when we
- 5:03were talking because I said, you know, I'm not, I don't know much
- 5:06about manifestation, but the idea that you that the universe
- 5:10listens to my energy is very different from how I grew up and
- 5:14what my personal beliefs are my religious beliefs.
- 5:16But I do believe that articulating what you want and
- 5:20then showing up and working hard for those things are all really
- 5:24important. And that's essentially what
- 5:26these two books show. They say, look, imagine what if
- 5:30you achieve this, how would you feel?
- 5:32So think about the positive energy, those feelings, and then
- 5:37alternatively think about how you'd feel if it doesn't happen.
- 5:40Oh, that's new for me. And really focus on that and
- 5:43then imagine that. So go to a place where where
- 5:46that's uncomfortable and then immediately write down 10 or 20
- 5:50things that you could do to make that happen.
- 5:53Then take a couple steps immediately.
- 5:56Don't wait a week. Don't be like, OK, well, when
- 5:58this is better, just take one or two steps in that direction and
- 6:00that momentum will get you going.
- 6:02A. 100% and honestly, that's that's essentially what
- 6:05manifestation is to me too. We did talk about it when we met
- 6:07in New York, but I am a huge firm believer in speaking things
- 6:11into existence, but also taking aligned action to make it
- 6:14happen, which is a part of manifestation.
- 6:16It's one thing to say, hey, I'm going to get this and I want
- 6:18this and I'm manifesting this, but it's another thing to say
- 6:20I'm going to go out, I'm going to put the effort, I'm going to
- 6:22do what I can to meet the universe in the middle to make
- 6:25it happen. And that's really interesting
- 6:26because then when you talk about that feeling of how would it
- 6:29feel to have this thing that you mentioned, right?
- 6:31That's the delulu that we're trying to live in here.
- 6:33It's like embracing being excited that you have this thing
- 6:36that you manifested it. But on the flip side, you said
- 6:38also like acknowledging the possibility of it not happening.
- 6:41That's kind of new to me. So how did they kind of walk
- 6:44through that situation? So first, it's on both ends.
- 6:47It's way more dramatic than it sounds, which is on the on the
- 6:51positive side, when you imagine what it could be, you should
- 6:54spend 1/2 hour, 1015 minutes if you can of.
- 6:57What are your wildest dreams? What's the and?
- 7:00This is what you were actively doing.
- 7:01This. I actively did this, and I'll
- 7:03tell you the story of what happened because it's really
- 7:05fascinating. So I read these books, I put it
- 7:07together. One of the things was to make a
- 7:09certain amount of money within three years, right?
- 7:13OK, So I I did all this. I started working toward it.
- 7:16And I remember my wife was driving me to the train station
- 7:20and I said she was dropping me off to go to work.
- 7:23I said, listen, I have a question.
- 7:25If I get to this number in any annual year of pay, can I buy a
- 7:31Ferrari? Oh, and you got the Ferrari now
- 7:34at the. Time She was really excited like
- 7:36she she was she's like, yes, absolutely because the number
- 7:40that I had put out there was a number that sounded like it
- 7:43could never happen well, my three-year goal I met in a year
- 7:48and just to be clear I went back and I said so can I buy the
- 7:51Ferrari She's like, absolutely not that's ridiculous it's
- 7:53cheesy don't do it and at that point I had matured a little bit
- 7:57more than I was never a car person but to me the idea of if
- 8:02you could make X oh gosh, a Ferrari would mean you really
- 8:05made it those things change as you get older and also as you
- 8:08get closer to it you go wow, I should save this money but
- 8:12having these wild dreams and articulating then coming up with
- 8:15a plan of how to get it. But what shouldn't be mistaken
- 8:20is like, you know, the 12 and 14 hour days of working to get to
- 8:24that it it was again, my religious beliefs believe that
- 8:29you can put things out there. God wants you to get certain
- 8:33things. But that's what I mean by the
- 8:35other side, the negative side. Remember that when you don't get
- 8:38what you look for, you might be getting exactly what you need.
- 8:41Absolutely. I believe in that too.
- 8:43And I also just believe in like just with divine timing and the
- 8:46way that things play out. So with what you're saying and
- 8:50everything with setting the goal, sending out to it.
- 8:52Because honestly, it is really easy to say, hey, I manifested
- 8:56this and this was something I wanted.
- 8:57And I could say that about a lot of things in my life.
- 8:59But if you really look at it and you zoom out, it's like there
- 9:02was time put into this, was effort put into this?
- 9:04Like the success of the things I do didn't just happen overnight.
- 9:07And I feel like that's what a lot of people get lost in.
- 9:09It's just like feeling it's just going to be instant and it
- 9:12really isn't. If you don't put the effort in,
- 9:14it's also not, it's also telling the universe that you're not,
- 9:17you're not trying, you're not wanting it enough either.
- 9:19So I think there's a balance between like, I'm speaking to
- 9:22existence and then also I'm going to go after it.
- 9:24And I think it's really important to do both.
- 9:26And also to know, at least for me to know that if you don't get
- 9:30it, and that happens a lot, because if you believe you can,
- 9:33you can really detail what you want and then work hard for it
- 9:37and you'll get it, you're going to be disappointed over time.
- 9:40Or you might be disappointed. And you also might fall into a
- 9:43really bad trap of thinking that people who don't have things,
- 9:46who want things just aren't working hard enough.
- 9:49And to me that's, I mean, that's not empathy, that's not love.
- 9:54You really have to understand that some people want things
- 9:57more than you want them and they work harder than you do and they
- 10:00don't get things or you work really harder than everyone and
- 10:04you don't get things. And there's a wisdom to it.
- 10:07You might not know it, You might not know it in this life, but
- 10:10and that's the the thing. So it worked out for me on this
- 10:13time. I wouldn't say, oh, it's a
- 10:15blueprint that it always works. I would say it worked.
- 10:17It worked out in this instance, but it was a very set pattern.
- 10:21I would, I recommend those books to a lot of people.
- 10:23I mentioned them to to you that. You did You know what's a really
- 10:26good book you should check out? What?
- 10:29Tululu to true Lulu 10 easy principles to manifest in your
- 10:32dream life. Well, I think I know somebody
- 10:34who was involved in that who should give me a free copy.
- 10:37Oh, OK, entitled. Yeah, I mean, I'll, I'll trade
- 10:41you a bear for for one of those if I can.
- 10:44A bear that Tululu provided for you, but OK, we will put you on
- 10:48the PR list for sub book then. OK, Well that's amazing.
- 10:51And do you feel like today, because I remember when you told
- 10:54me this story, because you did tell me this when we were in New
- 10:56York, you said this was when you were in your early 20s, right?
- 10:59So do you still feel like you practice all of that today?
- 11:03I do, I do a once a year planning.
- 11:05So every year at the start of the year you can do it anytime,
- 11:08but I like doing it at the start of the year as it seems
- 11:10something natural about it. And it's a few day process of
- 11:14really thinking of what do you want to do.
- 11:16And it's gotten a little bit more family focused and
- 11:20different values. As you know, before it was just
- 11:23career. I was focused on that.
- 11:25Now it's like, how do I want to spend my time during this year?
- 11:28I have a lot of brothers and sisters.
- 11:29How do I want to see each one of them?
- 11:31How can I attention? Shifted.
- 11:33Yeah. And so I think that's important
- 11:35to do on a periodic basis of whether it's once a year or
- 11:38every half year. I don't know if I do it every
- 11:41month, but it's a deep process. You know, what I would compare
- 11:44that to is setting intentions. It's like saying, hey, I want to
- 11:48be able to do this throughout this year.
- 11:49I want to have time to make this happen for myself.
- 11:51So essentially, like you're aligning yourself with those
- 11:54goals. And I think it's really
- 11:55important to write them down, acknowledge them exactly what
- 11:57you're saying. Like the beginning of the year
- 11:58is a really great time. You can do it anytime.
- 12:00But then when you, when you say like, I want to do this, like
- 12:03it's also a mental thing where you connect yourself into like
- 12:06going into it and like saying, OK, we're going to make it
- 12:08happen now, right? Yeah, and don't be afraid if
- 12:10things change, don't be afraid to change with them, but also
- 12:15don't change just because you know what this came up that
- 12:19came. If it's if it's an important
- 12:20goal, really push, push for it. But I think a lot of people get
- 12:24caught up on, I'm going to climb this mountain and that's what
- 12:27I'm going to do. And then they don't.
- 12:29And it's so they're so hard on themselves.
- 12:32And, you know, if you don't achieve something that you shot,
- 12:35you shot for, it's OK if you worked for it.
- 12:38If you didn't work for it and you feel bad, yeah, you probably
- 12:41should feel kind of bad unless there was other circumstances.
- 12:44That's so interesting. I think when it comes to like me
- 12:46and like my level of expectations, I have super high
- 12:49expectations with the things I want and if I don't have them
- 12:52met, I am super deeply disappointed.
- 12:54But then I also feel like it just motivates me to push harder
- 12:57or go harder or make it happen for myself, you know?
- 13:00It's like redirection. So when I was first ranked #1 I
- 13:04get the, the magazine sends it to you and actually the bank
- 13:08finds out and they tell you and, and the difference between being
- 13:12number one and being number, say 5 is like 10 times the pay.
- 13:17So being number one is, is really important.
- 13:19In the industry that I was in, probably in every industry,
- 13:22being the number one tennis player is a lot better than
- 13:25being the number 10 tennis player, right?
- 13:29They're probably both pretty great.
- 13:31We're trying to be #1 yeah. So being #1 actually, if that's
- 13:35what you're shooting for. So you find out and it's great.
- 13:39I immediately look to how close was #2.
- 13:43Oh my gosh, I do that too. Yeah.
- 13:45And I noticed number 2 was more than 50% away now that's where
- 13:50you send you, you send your brain good and bad signal.
- 13:53So I was a little happy. The first year was the happiest
- 13:56I was in getting #1. OK.
- 13:58The second year I was like, OK, great.
- 14:02I knew that would happen. Like I it was like more
- 14:04condition. You had more of a that
- 14:05expectation. You already done it.
- 14:07And then I'd look to see how close was #2 and it actually
- 14:10widened in the first few years. I was like, oh, yeah, this is
- 14:12pretty good, this is great. In one year, it was really
- 14:15narrow. And I was like, oh, I was
- 14:18anxious about it. Meanwhile, I was #1 So you also
- 14:21have to take your wins and be pretty, pretty happy about it.
- 14:24But that's where revisiting these goals that you have, like,
- 14:29OK, your goal was to do well. Right.
- 14:32Now what do you? What do you?
- 14:33What is? Why are you being making
- 14:34yourself miserable for this? That's so insightful.
- 14:37I feel that way too. I'm really competitive just in
- 14:39general, like with everything around me, but I'm also
- 14:42extremely competitive with myself.
- 14:44Like I have those goals and when I hit them, I feel like it's
- 14:48never enough for me. And I'm like, OK, now I need to
- 14:50do the next goal. Now I need to do it bigger, now
- 14:52I have to do it better. So I think that part is actually
- 14:55fun and can be very healthy. Where I think so.
- 14:59I think so in some parts. But but, you know, there's a
- 15:03common phrase that comparisons the thief of joy.
- 15:06And if you compare yourself to others, you don't know, you know
- 15:10what they were. And this was only later in my
- 15:14career did I realize this. You know, there were a lot of
- 15:16people who aren't number one who are at smaller banks.
- 15:19And if you're at a small bank trying to be #1 it's sort of
- 15:23like if you are a a pop star and you're going to be #1 well, if
- 15:26you're on an indie label, guess what?
- 15:28It's going to be really hard for you to become.
- 15:30That is such a great comparison. Like literally, I have been
- 15:33reflecting on that so much and I'm just in the pop star way.
- 15:35But it's exactly that. If you don't have the right
- 15:37resources or support, of course, maybe another, you know, let's
- 15:43say podcast could probably get, you know, higher and do better
- 15:49with what they have, you know. Yeah, absolutely.
- 15:52And and you might be thinking you're comparing apples to
- 15:54oranges at that point because you're saying, oh, wait a
- 15:56second, Joe Rogan has a couple more views than I have a.
- 16:01Couple. Just a few, yeah.
- 16:03So. But you're comparing apples and
- 16:05oranges. Right, right.
- 16:06You're right. You know what?
- 16:07That's that's entirely true. I think.
- 16:09I think especially like for a lot of people, it's hard for
- 16:12them to look at the big picture. I know for me, it's really hard
- 16:15for me to look at the big picture.
- 16:15I'm really hyper focused on things.
- 16:17But when you zoom out like that and it's just like, you know,
- 16:20it's not comparable exactly what you said, then I feel like
- 16:23that's that's more reassuring. I've learned it in my career is
- 16:27that you don't know what other people, why this person went
- 16:30from #2 to #10 you go, oh wow, they dropped off.
- 16:34It must be really bad research and you then you find out Oh no,
- 16:37they had a sick parent. That's so terrifying because
- 16:39like as a content creator, all my numbers are so public and out
- 16:42there, and I always feel that way where I'm like, if I'm not
- 16:44performing to my standard or up to par of what I expect for
- 16:47myself, I'm fearful that people are going to interpret me like
- 16:49that. And then it makes me feel bad.
- 16:51It makes me look bad and then it really gets my head about my
- 16:53content and what I do. Yeah.
- 16:56So I worked at a hedge fund that for a while, what they would do
- 16:59is every month put up the monthly performance by portfolio
- 17:01manager and they would post it. You'd get it sent to you, but it
- 17:05would also be posted. And there's lots of reasons that
- 17:08someone might underperform, like maybe their sector that they
- 17:11were investing in, all of a sudden the price of oil dropped
- 17:15and all of the stocks that they liked fell by a lot.
- 17:18Well, it would look like they're doing horribly, but why are you
- 17:22comparing against somebody who does healthcare where their
- 17:24sector was doing well? And so as long as you remember
- 17:27that, listen, I'm I'm racing my race, I'm fighting my fight.
- 17:32I can't be compared. You know, there's no comparison
- 17:35to me. Really great mindset.
- 17:36So they would post it publicly for all of you to see how things
- 17:40are performing. Yeah.
- 17:41OK. So it's kind of like exactly the
- 17:42same what I go through as a creator then.
- 17:44Well, if it were down, by the way, if you were negative, like
- 17:46if you were down for the month, you'd be in red, you'd be in red
- 17:49and not and not green. And I always thought.
- 17:51That I was never seen that color, yeah.
- 17:53I was like, wow, this is not this is not good so.
- 17:55Oh my gosh, hard. It really was.
- 17:58That's so brutal. Why would they do that?
- 18:00Would it motivate people to like poor Carter?
- 18:03I don't think it makes anyone work harder.
- 18:04I do think though, it gets you to the odds, to the mindset of I
- 18:08really have to focus on what am I doing wrong?
- 18:12Why didn't this work out? Is it my stock picking?
- 18:14Is it not? But it's sort of like red pen on
- 18:18us on a teacher's paper. Did that motivate you that it's
- 18:22in red? Red looks like blood, red looks
- 18:24like anger. You could do it in green, you
- 18:27can do it in blue, you could do. But there's something about red
- 18:30pen that just never sat right with me.
- 18:31It's like an authoritative thing.
- 18:33I I didn't like it so. Right, absolutely.
- 18:37I think it's also like a psychological thing, you know,
- 18:39it stands out too, you know, so it's like right there in your
- 18:42face. Well, you have discussed like
- 18:44obviously being number one and congratulations, but you've been
- 18:48through a lot of turbulence as well within your own life.
- 18:52My Co writer and I were researching and we've seen that
- 18:55you have been sued by this is a big word for Elmo big
- 19:01pharmaceutical. Yes, and this was by Biovail
- 19:09because you were a whistleblower and a bank institution had fired
- 19:17you. Can you tell us about that?
- 19:20Yeah, so. And this goes actually to the
- 19:22idea of you don't know what people go through.
- 19:23So I wrote a report and the company really didn't like the
- 19:28report. So on Wall Street, a lot of
- 19:31people say buy this, buy this. Very few people say sell.
- 19:34And part of the reason is that, you know, banks make a lot of
- 19:38money when they do deals. And if you are an analyst and
- 19:42you say sell, that company won't do a deal with your bank.
- 19:46I've never seen a company do a deal with a bank where someone
- 19:48had a OH. My God, it's like so unheard of.
- 19:51Yeah, so I wrote sell on a company and the company really
- 19:55didn't like it. I said that they, they missed
- 19:59their their earnings for a very specific reason that they, they
- 20:02said they had a car accident or a truck accident.
- 20:05It was like a dog ate my homework type of thing.
- 20:07They said we're going to miss our revenue numbers because a
- 20:10truck turned over. Got you.
- 20:12And it really did turn over. But I interviewed people who
- 20:15were there who said there was nothing on the truck, really not
- 20:17a lot on the truck. So I wrote this report had a lot
- 20:20of other detail. I put out the report.
- 20:23The stock actually went up that week.
- 20:25So as #1 and as powerful as in my mind I might have thought I
- 20:29was, it actually didn't have the effect that that many people
- 20:32remember it. This was very, this is still a
- 20:34very famous report. They eventually, about a year
- 20:38later, sued me as they were being investigated by the SEC.
- 20:41They sued me and a few others for $4.6 billion.
- 20:46Billion with AB. So no analyst has ever been sued
- 20:50by by an issuer for more than a billion.
- 20:52Dollars. Did you like shake your pants?
- 20:54Well, I make the joke that, you know, the 1st 4.6 billion I
- 20:58figured I'd cover, but the a few days later, a week later, I was
- 21:01sued in a class action lawsuit for another 4.6 billion.
- 21:05And that was really painful. But no, the, the real I, I knew
- 21:10I was right and I didn't do anything wrong.
- 21:13So I was more indignant and I was more like, how could they do
- 21:18this? My bank, the bank that I worked
- 21:21for immediately put out a press release that said we stand
- 21:23behind David. He's #1 he's been number one for
- 21:26a bunch of years. We stand by his research.
- 21:28If anyone ever says, hey, I stand by you, that means you
- 21:33should start looking for another job.
- 21:35That means they're legally required to say this.
- 21:38And they're really upset. And so within about a month, I,
- 21:42I was fired. Did.
- 21:44You see that coming? I will say I didn't see it
- 21:48coming until a couple days beforehand.
- 21:51A friend of mine who knew what was happening said be really
- 21:54careful, they're going to fire you.
- 21:56And I give him. I've never thanked him about it,
- 22:00but he he could have been fired for telling me that and he was
- 22:04just a dear friend for doing that.
- 22:05I couldn't do anything about it. Years later, someone explained
- 22:10to me that, you know, you can have a disagreement.
- 22:13I think that the bank and I probably disagree on what why it
- 22:17was. But someone explained to me that
- 22:19they believe if I had gone into a court case and said yes, they
- 22:24the bank made me write these bad things about this company,
- 22:27they'd be on the hook for for billions.
- 22:30And so it was convenient to Get Me Out of the way while this was
- 22:34all litigated. Either way, it was a really good
- 22:37lesson for me because at that time I was really thinking #1
- 22:43was my identity and we've talked about.
- 22:45A lot of steam into that. Yeah, and we talked a lot about
- 22:48that. And that's great.
- 22:51But the biggest lesson that I got out of it, they they told
- 22:54all of the people that I worked with who some of them were
- 22:57really good friends. Don't talk to them.
- 23:00This is part of active litigation.
- 23:01If you talk to them, you might be dragged into this.
- 23:03Don't do it. And so some dear friends of mine
- 23:07who I helped get jobs with me, who I can say I actually helped
- 23:12get them rich, just stop talking to me.
- 23:16Oh, really? Yeah.
- 23:17I mean and do. You, how do you feel about that?
- 23:19It's like it's business, right? But then it's like loyalty,
- 23:22friendship, like. I view it as everyone has a
- 23:24decision to make of the person they want to be.
- 23:27I would never do that. Two people, that's powerful and
- 23:31I'm still friends with them. The other people, most of which
- 23:34I've only talked to once since then in 20 years or 15 years.
- 23:39And it's not that I wouldn't talk to them.
- 23:41I mean, because I don't think carrying grudges and anger is
- 23:44really great. But I tell you that because in
- 23:47your life you can manifest a lot of things and you can wish
- 23:51things and you can, but you'll find out that people disappoint
- 23:54you. So that's T Lulu.
- 23:58T Lulu. Well, we're going to send your
- 24:00two besties that had your back a Dulu hat.
- 24:03That's a thank you. Yeah, they'll, they'll say wait
- 24:05a second. So I I I had your back and I got
- 24:08a hat. Yeah, that's more than I've
- 24:09gotten in the last 15 years. So thank you.
- 24:11Yes, Oh my God, we got them covered and they could wear the
- 24:14delulu hat proudly available in my past the store.
- 24:18But it's interesting because I'll send them to your past the
- 24:20store to to pay for it rather than because they should.
- 24:24I don't think you should get extra credit for doing what's
- 24:26right. Interesting.
- 24:27It's nice and I I'm. A big gift giver.
- 24:30Well, all right, well, OK, so I'm taking this bear.
- 24:34You can't claim to be a big gift giver and not like.
- 24:39I gave you 2 hats prior to the show.
- 24:41Big gift giver is 2 hats and a bear but OK.
- 24:44Yes, but I don't. Three more gifts than you had
- 24:47before you entered my set. That's true, but I would have
- 24:50stolen a couple anyway, so I though think you don't get
- 24:53credit for doing what's right. And those, those guys I'm still
- 24:56friends with and I think the world of them.
- 24:58I think they're really nice people.
- 25:00The others, I just think that they were, you know, protecting
- 25:04themselves and protecting what they think was their money.
- 25:08So they take it personally then? No, I put it more on them of
- 25:12like, hey, listen either. And that goes back to the idea
- 25:15of you don't know what's going on with you.
- 25:17I don't know, maybe they weren't raised well.
- 25:18Maybe they maybe they had such big bills that they were afraid
- 25:23that if they got into a lawsuit and somehow got in trouble that
- 25:26they wouldn't ever work again. I don't.
- 25:28That could be scary dairy. I can't be responsible for how
- 25:31they feel. I just know that that's not how
- 25:33I would act and that's not how I'd want my children to act.
- 25:37And I I expected more out of friends, but you know, everyone
- 25:41has a choice. Well, that was like you said,
- 25:431520 years ago now. Yeah, about 15 years ago.
- 25:45So what was the outcome of this lawsuit?
- 25:48Oh, so it's interesting because Harvard Business School case has
- 25:51been written about and I teach it every year at Harvard.
- 25:54Right, I attended it. OK, well, you should.
- 25:55Next year it's every April. I'm a Harvard student, so yes.
- 25:59I would go. I actually did it at another
- 26:01university. Other schools teach it.
- 26:03No one's been smart enough to ask me to come because I'm more
- 26:06than happy to teach the the class.
- 26:09But I explained that the lawsuit was thrown out.
- 26:15New York Times wrote a thing of how I was totally vindicated
- 26:17that the CEO had to resign and not be part of a public company
- 26:21for I think it was three years. They had to pay fines to the
- 26:26SEC, to the Canadian Stock Exchange.
- 26:29And you know what, I was, I was right.
- 26:31I was vindicated. But, you know, whistleblowers
- 26:34don't win out, whether a tobacco whistleblower, any sort of
- 26:37whistleblower, you don't win out in the in the long run, but you
- 26:42do it because it's the right thing to do.
- 26:43Did you expect to lose that? No, no, no, no, the whole time,
- 26:49but the whole time I knew I was right.
- 26:51I knew that this like I will say though, during part of this, I
- 26:57did something that I that I, it's important to to tell you
- 27:01this. So afterwards, I like during the
- 27:05middle of all this, I went to see my priest and I don't I
- 27:09don't go to church enough. I'm sad to say that he
- 27:12recognized me when I went to see him, but he didn't.
- 27:14She's like, who are you? But but I said, look, I want to
- 27:17pray for justice because, you know, they have a lot of my
- 27:21money and This is Money. And they said, I'm glad you said
- 27:24pray for justice because there is no justice in this world.
- 27:28Sometimes there is, but let's just be clear, you didn't say
- 27:32you want to pray for money and winning.
- 27:34And but you said, but you know, today someone's going to be born
- 27:38with a birth defect and someone's going to go to jail
- 27:41who didn't do what they're accused of.
- 27:43And he went through a list of things and I was never in my
- 27:48entire life, I've never been more humbled because I actually
- 27:52was going to say, Hey, let's can we pray for my winning?
- 27:55Like I want to win this. And, and what he said was
- 28:00exactly what I needed to hear, which is, don't you know, don't
- 28:06think that just because you wish for something that you're going
- 28:10to get it. You're not that special.
- 28:12You're special. He didn't say these words, but
- 28:15you're special. But be humble knowing that the
- 28:17world doesn't work out that way. So it was the best lesson I've
- 28:22ever learned. Like being told you ain't shit
- 28:25by a priest. Well, I would say more like,
- 28:28listen, you think you're doing something righteous by praying,
- 28:32but you're really what you're doing is trying to win and
- 28:35understand. And so I the reason I mentioned
- 28:39the teaching the course is because at the end I always say
- 28:41the same thing, which is I would do it 100 times over, even
- 28:45though it was really painful. They had private eyes following
- 28:48not when I say they the other company following my wife and
- 28:51kids around, following me around, just trying to
- 28:55antagonize us. And now they would say it wasn't
- 28:59trying to antagonize, it was just trying to monitor you.
- 29:01So I'll say different people are going to have differences of
- 29:04that. I thought it was antagonistic,
- 29:05but. Yeah, that's like intimidating.
- 29:08But so you, I would do it 10 times over again because it's
- 29:12the right thing to do, you know, It was really traumatic though
- 29:17for my family. We had to have private eyes
- 29:19parked. Our own security people parked
- 29:20in our driveway while they were parked outside.
- 29:23The opposing team had people parked outside our house
- 29:26watching us. How long did this go on?
- 29:28For Months. That's.
- 29:30And what they're hoping, what they're hoping is that you go
- 29:33crazy and hit their car with something and whatever.
- 29:36So. So they got something on you?
- 29:38Then they can say, look, look at how unstable he.
- 29:40Is he's totally. So what I explained is that you
- 29:46might think everyone should do that, like, OK, everyone should
- 29:50stand up for what's right. And I do think people should do
- 29:53that. But you don't know.
- 29:54I mentioned earlier someone has an elderly parent and so you're
- 29:58like, why don't they whistleblow?
- 30:00You know, well, maybe they're making a different trade off.
- 30:02Maybe it's not a good trade off as a whole.
- 30:04Everyone for society so different.
- 30:06So you never know. And that was the that was the
- 30:09part that you start to give other people grace of why they
- 30:13don't do what you think is right.
- 30:14It's very generous of you, honestly, better than me.
- 30:17But in the aftermath of that entire situation, you felt like
- 30:21you were blacklisted from Wall Street or you were blacklisted
- 30:23from Wall Street. Well, no one wants to hire the
- 30:25guy that just got sued for for 4.5 billion dollars, $4.6
- 30:29billion, right? That's not but I wait the.
- 30:31First time it's fine, but the second time that's when they're.
- 30:33Like we're not. Hiring this guy.
- 30:35No, because because you come across as a troublemaker when
- 30:38you're not in trouble, you're just doing your job.
- 30:40So I ended up going to a hedge fund right away, like it was
- 30:43within a month, the hedge fund manager said, look, I've seen
- 30:48this type of thing before. Like this is I'm not worried
- 30:50about this at all. And I give him a ton of credit
- 30:53because he saw what my integrity was and said great join like and
- 30:58and I really loved my time there.
- 31:00So then following this entire situation, you do that.
- 31:02This is your redemption era, and now you're moving your way back
- 31:06through Wall Street. And of course, you know, as you
- 31:09go throughout your career, you're now a part of Wall Street
- 31:13beats. Yeah, So it's been a long part
- 31:15part from there. So I went from Bally Osney Asset
- 31:18Management, a hedge fund to I thought, oh, you know what, I
- 31:21want to go back to the sell side to my old job.
- 31:23I did that and I enjoyed it. It was fine.
- 31:26I I uncovered a few other big frauds.
- 31:29Oh my gosh, yeah. No, they were really, really big
- 31:32and. Each off at the Lulu.
- 31:33Well, where they were all, all of the rest of the street was
- 31:36like, I love this company. I love this company.
- 31:38I was like, no, this isn't. And one of the companies went
- 31:40from $250 to like, I think today it's like $9 or something.
- 31:45So it really fell apart, which is great because it was really
- 31:48scammy. But so then I retired and I was
- 31:51like, I want to be busy, but I don't want to work for another
- 31:53bank and I want to be engaged. And somebody was saying said,
- 31:58look, we're putting together a group that talks about stocks.
- 32:00Would you want to be part of it? I was like, yeah, great.
- 32:02We'll democratize what I used to be doing and we'll give it away
- 32:06for a very low price and help people learn how to to invest
- 32:11so. That's amazing.
- 32:12And you're offering that now on passes?
- 32:15Yeah, it passes slash Wall Street beats and we launched
- 32:18just about a month ago, maybe two months ago and we had
- 32:22transitioned from another platform and it's been great so
- 32:24far. Congratulations, that's
- 32:25incredible. You're all over, passes.
- 32:27Thanks. I'd like to say it was because
- 32:29we saw you, Ryan there that we came over.
- 32:32But I know that if I said that you'll probably want to take a
- 32:35piece of or business so. I would never ask for that,
- 32:37David. I am notoriously the face of
- 32:40passes, so I understand why you joined because of me.
- 32:43You're welcome. No, no problem.
- 32:45We will discuss the equity later though.
- 32:48Well okay, so with Wall Street beats.
- 32:50So the premise is, is the 10 of you discussing and like advising
- 32:55what to do with? I'm like very not versed in
- 32:58stocks or financial finances. I'm actually financially
- 33:01illiterate. But can you explain it to
- 33:04someone who might not be versed in me?
- 33:08No. So I give you a lot of, I give
- 33:10you a lot of credit for saying that because a lot of people are
- 33:12embarrassed for saying like, look, I'm really good at this
- 33:15and that. And you'd be surprised how many
- 33:18doctors or people who are, who are great at science influencers
- 33:22that all of a sudden they're making money and they never
- 33:25studied finance. They don't, they don't know
- 33:27like, okay, So what do I do with this coming in?
- 33:30So we're not giving advice because advice really has to be
- 33:33personalized. We're kind of giving
- 33:35information. We give two types of
- 33:36information, our view of the markets and our view of how
- 33:40we're investing our money. For some people, they may find
- 33:44like, OK, these are really good ideas, this is something I want
- 33:46to do. But since we're going to a big
- 33:49audience, someone might have very different financial
- 33:53circumstances than somebody else.
- 33:54So we can't give advice because advice is really hard to give
- 33:58for individuals when you're talking to A to a really big
- 34:01group. Right.
- 34:02It's more personalized if you were to do that.
- 34:04So it's more of just saying like you and the rest of Wall Street
- 34:08beats are saying what you personally are doing and they
- 34:11could take it as is. So they're learning from you.
- 34:13Yeah. And we have as subscribers, we,
- 34:16we obviously can see some people communicate with us and say,
- 34:19hey, by the way, great work. So we have everyone from
- 34:23individual investors who are just starting out to hedge fund
- 34:26managers or portfolio managers who manage billions.
- 34:29And so it's a wide range and they all seem to be getting
- 34:34something out of it. That's amazing.
- 34:35And the intention of this is, you know, for the people who are
- 34:39part of Wall Street beats outside of the 10 of you, but
- 34:42your subscribers, the people who are members of that, they can
- 34:46get the advice that they need so they can start generating money.
- 34:49Yeah, So we want everybody who can to invest first.
- 34:53We we want people to know that the best way to build wealth is
- 34:56slow and steady, right. And to have the tools to think
- 35:00about that. So for sophisticated investors,
- 35:02here are individual stock ideas that we're that we're looking at
- 35:06for beginning investors. We want to explain, OK, how do
- 35:08you set up an account? What other things when you're
- 35:11thinking about bonds, what's up? What is a bond?
- 35:13What a lot of people don't even know what a stock is.
- 35:15Or I ran into someone the other day.
- 35:17No, they said, look, I hear on. I said, oh, the market's down.
- 35:20I'm not in such a great mood. And they were like, OK, for
- 35:23whatever that means. I said, what do you mean?
- 35:24I said, well, I don't know what that means.
- 35:27I said, OK, well, it's the stock market.
- 35:29So it's a bunch of stocks and the market went down.
- 35:31They go, OK, I, I understand the words you're saying.
- 35:34And so I explained, though a stock is like a piece of a
- 35:37company, like a slice of a pizza.
- 35:40And so you split it up a million ways and then you own that
- 35:45little piece of a company. If you bought the entire pizza
- 35:47pizza, you'd own the company. OK.
- 35:50So now that you own that stock, the stock goes up if the company
- 35:54does better? Yes.
- 35:55OK, if the company does worse, guess what?
- 35:57Your slice of pizza is not worth as much.
- 35:59Now, unlike a pizza, your stock doesn't expire.
- 36:03Like you don't have to consume it but.
- 36:05When you have that stock, you are investing in that stock.
- 36:07You're investing in that company for some people for some people,
- 36:12OK, I want to own one share of Coca-Cola or one share of
- 36:16Google. Other people say, OK, well, I
- 36:19want to own a big group of them because I don't I can't pick
- 36:22individuals. So that's called an index fund.
- 36:24So we try to explain to people what the different approaches
- 36:26are, but don't be embarrassed of.
- 36:29Listen, I just don't know that because I if I went to an expert
- 36:34in social media and I said, hey, Ryan, tell yo, tell me, how do I
- 36:41do exactly what you do? You'd be like, well, well, I
- 36:43don't have enough. Trust Fund 65 Blue.
- 36:47Eyes Yeah, well it is great to. One way to build wealth is to
- 36:51start with a trust fund. So unfortunately I didn't do
- 36:55that so. OK.
- 36:56Well, can I ask you something about the stocks and the
- 37:01investing? Would you invest in stocks in
- 37:04Delulu? Absolutely.
- 37:07Yeah. You would, you would call you're
- 37:09a long, you're a strong buy. OK, Yeah, that's good.
- 37:14Yeah, that is a good thing. So.
- 37:15Wait. Thank you.
- 37:16I'm so honored. Yeah, Delulu's going to blow up,
- 37:18so get your share now, besties. Yeah, and that's true.
- 37:22They should. How do they get a share?
- 37:23What do they what do they do? Yeah, besties, the best way that
- 37:26you can invest into Lulu with Ryan Liu is if you join my
- 37:29Vasa's besties at the link in my bio.
- 37:32It's how we get direct feedback from you and integrate you into
- 37:35the show, which we'll be doing later today.
- 37:38I actually have a little investment for you.
- 37:42Yeah, So I have a little Citroen crystal.
- 37:46This is, if you're not watching on the Spotify exclusive
- 37:49version, video version of the show.
- 37:51This is a Citroen. It is considered the merchant
- 37:53stone and it helps you manifest money.
- 37:56Awesome. Well, I can always use that.
- 37:58So yes, I'll let you know how it works out.
- 38:01OK, perfect. Now if we're keeping count here,
- 38:03that is for gifts. Now for David Maris, who said
- 38:07I'm not a gift giver. You know the problem with this
- 38:09is after this every other guest is going to expect at least 4,
- 38:13so you've set yourself up for trouble.
- 38:15Every guest gets individualized gifts personalized to them, and
- 38:20you will find out what your gift is when you're a guest on the
- 38:22show. Well, we have a Citroen for you.
- 38:25So that's my investment into Wall Street beats.
- 38:28Well, thank you very much. Yeah, yeah.
- 38:30And then we're going to have it, you know, manifest even more
- 38:32money perfect. And success and advice.
- 38:35Well, David, I wanted to talk a little bit about your social
- 38:39media. You had brought that up.
- 38:41You are actually very big on social media, and we're talking
- 38:45about your Twitter account at David Maris.
- 38:47Yeah, I would love for people to sign up.
- 38:49I mostly talk about drug stocks and the healthcare industry and
- 38:54the. Questions about your tweets just
- 38:55cuz I'm not used to see it or like understanding it.
- 38:59Yeah. But I talk about a lot of other
- 39:00stuff too, so shoot away. OK, well, OK, let's get into it.
- 39:03So we're going to talk about some tweets that you had
- 39:06tweeted. And I would love it if you can
- 39:08explain them to me just as someone who's not versed in any
- 39:10of this, like it would help. And then if you can explain it
- 39:13to the best, you lose as well. Our first tweet is from at David
- 39:18Maris. And the tweet says the problem
- 39:21with social media is that any clown with a microphone can
- 39:29pretend to be an expert about the stock market or anything for
- 39:32that matter. And it includes a cute little,
- 39:34cute little picture of a clown. Yeah.
- 39:37Can can we talk about this? What does this tweet mean?
- 39:39Who's the clown with the microphone?
- 39:41It's absolutely not directed at you because you have two
- 39:43microphones. You're, you know.
- 39:44Right. OK, clarify.
- 39:46No. I was looking at one of our
- 39:48competitors and they're way more, you know, active on social
- 39:52media and they have a lot of subscribers.
- 39:57But their analysts have, from what I can tell, no real
- 40:00background, no real expertise in finance.
- 40:03They haven't achieved what our team has achieved.
- 40:06And some of their advice I think is dangerous to follow now.
- 40:11They may be cheaper than we are, and they may be.
- 40:16More accessible in some way that makes them better?
- 40:18No, And that's who I was directing it.
- 40:20It was very targeted. I don't think the person knows
- 40:22that I was targeting them, right.
- 40:24Internally, our team knows exactly who I was targeting.
- 40:27Oh my God, yeah. And it was really, you say
- 40:29you're competitive. I was more like trying to call
- 40:32them out as like, you know, did they?
- 40:34See that tweet? I they didn't say anything about
- 40:36it, but. Do you personally know them?
- 40:39No, I don't, No. In fact, I watched one of their
- 40:42shows. They allowed, they said, oh,
- 40:43here's a free preview. I watched the show and it was
- 40:46really bad advice. And I'm and I, I, everyone who
- 40:49knows me knows integrity. I, again, I face down a $4
- 40:53billion lawsuit. Integrity is something I would
- 40:56never give up. I if Wall Street beats is a wild
- 41:00success or if it's not, it's not going to.
- 41:02I can't buy another steak with it.
- 41:04I can't. It's not going to change
- 41:05anything in my life of what I of what I do.
- 41:09But I don't stand for people trying to cheat other people.
- 41:13Right, absolutely. And that's something that you
- 41:15definitely don't want to, you know, encourage either,
- 41:17especially of what you're doing because this is people's money
- 41:20and this is like people's like, you know, what they're investing
- 41:22in. It's a big deal.
- 41:24If they were doing it for free, I'd be like, OK, well, you you.
- 41:27Still could be harmful. I still think it's very harmful
- 41:29and that's why I think people who who watch these, that's why
- 41:31I say they're clowns. And what I was really saying is
- 41:35take a look at whoever you're listening to, if it's finance,
- 41:38your financial, you know, social media and say, well, what do
- 41:42they know? Like what, what experience do
- 41:44they have? And even if they have a lot of
- 41:46experience, also be a little bit cautious because they may be
- 41:49promoting something that they're getting paid on.
- 41:52So you know what? Instead of watching their show,
- 41:54what would you recommend instead?
- 41:57Read a few books. A lot of people.
- 41:59A lot of people. Any any specific books?
- 42:02Yeah, I think there's there's one an older book called
- 42:05Contrarian investing by Oh, you're saying your book?
- 42:09I don't I don't know if your book would help people with with
- 42:13finances so much, but I recommend my.
- 42:15Book would help everyone with everything so.
- 42:17I'll I'll recommend that they do that having not read it myself,
- 42:20but you know, getting my free things I probably.
- 42:23Should say gift #5 yeah at some point.
- 42:25Yeah. So I'll say it, but I think
- 42:27financial books, they're it's more of starting like starting
- 42:33to look at things that you, it takes work right to to be good
- 42:37at anything. So Susie Orman, she has a bunch
- 42:41of books. She's very, very famous.
- 42:42Her advice is actually very solid.
- 42:44It's not always the most palatable because she tells
- 42:46people on her show and like, no, you can't afford that.
- 42:50But my God, so she's like an acquired taste of a person, you
- 42:53would say? I think she's fantastic, but I
- 42:55think some people. Just say that.
- 42:57Some people just want to hear oh good things, only positive
- 43:01things. But. 100% when?
- 43:03It comes to yeah, when it comes to money, you have to be told
- 43:05like, no, you can't afford that. I got that, yeah.
- 43:09Yeah. People like that are so
- 43:10necessary in the ecosystem of the world.
- 43:12They are. Right.
- 43:14OK, well, that's a good recommendation and all of us
- 43:16will definitely be checking it out during the Duluth Book Club
- 43:19that we'll start doing every Friday night eventually.
- 43:23Well, thank you for that. How many books are you going to
- 43:25do? One a month or one a week would
- 43:27be really. Ambitious Okay I'm thinking
- 43:29we're going to start with Dulu to true Lulu 10 easy principles
- 43:32Manifesting your Dream Life weekly and then we'll start
- 43:36integrating you know the the book that you recommended as
- 43:39well. That would be great.
- 43:41Is that a good system? Do you think you?
- 43:42Think so. I think once a month is.
- 43:43I think anything more is a little ambitious for most people
- 43:46in their schedules. Right, we're all too busy
- 43:48listening to do Lulu, Ryan Liu on Spotify and rating at five
- 43:51stars. So yeah, we're we're just going
- 43:53to try to figure it out to make it natural and say everyone's
- 43:55routine. We're working on it.
- 43:57Well let's get into another tweet Lulu that you have said my
- 44:01Co writer did a deep deep deep deep deep deep.
- 44:04Deep. Deep dive on at David Maris.
- 44:08So we need to start here. It's a quoted tweet.
- 44:12His initial tweet was from 2021. David said space tourism is like
- 44:17burning orangutans to cook Kobe steaks.
- 44:20It is environmentally, environmentally sorry.
- 44:23Big word for Elmo. Disastrous.
- 44:24Just to feed the curiosity of the extremely wealthy Actually
- 44:28worse comma since orangutans don't explode and kill everyone
- 44:31at dinner. Very intense strong opinion
- 44:35tweet and we actually have a follow up to this tweet in 2025.
- 44:40Miss Katy Perry catching a stray we have.
- 44:43I stand by this and I'm happy to see the backlash of at Katy
- 44:46Perry at all trip. To say you care about the earth
- 44:50while going to space for a joyride or running a 400 foot
- 44:55yacht is hypocrisy. What did this mean, David?
- 44:59Yeah, so, you know, Richard Branson, billionaire, says he
- 45:03cares about the planet, but he started a company called Space
- 45:07something or other Virgin Galactic, and its stock symbol
- 45:12was space. And it's ridiculous because we
- 45:15all know what's what it looks like.
- 45:17And the singular experience of someone going up and saying, oh,
- 45:20it changed my life. They're not going to come back
- 45:22and change the world with that perspective.
- 45:25So it's really is just joyriding.
- 45:27Now, you could say that, by the way, about people going from
- 45:30here to, you know, Venice to check out the canals.
- 45:35You could say that. But the physics around space
- 45:38travel and lifting a rocket off the ground versus an airplane,
- 45:42it's it's not even order of magnitude difference in in
- 45:45carbon footprint. So yeah, what I meant by it is
- 45:48everyone wants to say let's save the orangutans or but here's a
- 45:53simple thing, let's not fly people up to space.
- 45:56And the reason I mentioned Katy Perry recently, because she got
- 45:59so much negative feedback for her ridiculous holding a flower,
- 46:03promoting an album or or a new release while she's up in space.
- 46:09And maybe, you know, again, I'm not a believer in karma, but
- 46:12maybe the idea that your concerts aren't selling out now,
- 46:17well, it's because the cultures moved on from performative
- 46:22ethics of, oh, I care about the planet.
- 46:24You don't care about the planet. If you're going to take a.
- 46:26Call her out. She's an amazing pop star,
- 46:30amazing at what she used to do. Well, I mean, she still doesn't
- 46:36be honest. How how many people are do you
- 46:38know, are like, oh, Katy Perry's in town.
- 46:42Oh, crickets. I mean, it's just again,
- 46:45amazing. Her greatest hits are probably
- 46:48all great, all songs you recognize and you know, at a
- 46:50wedding, people will stand up and and dance.
- 46:53But they do the same thing to Cotton eye Joe.
- 46:56And I don't know if I would say like, oh, I'm going to stand
- 46:59behind whatever band that did that.
- 47:01So mostly I was just saying, you know, space tourism is really
- 47:05bad for the planet, and you can't care for the planet and
- 47:08still say let's go to space. And you feel like it's justified
- 47:12that she got the backlash for it then?
- 47:15Well, I don't like to, to be fair.
- 47:18What if she's in a place where she needed to do said thing?
- 47:23Yeah, maybe her, her. Maybe her label told her to do
- 47:26it. Maybe she didn't have really
- 47:27good guidance. Someone didn't.
- 47:29You know, I've thought long and hard about the science around
- 47:32this. Maybe she she hasn't had the
- 47:34time to do that. She didn't.
- 47:35She's just like, hey, Jeff Bezos says free trip to, to and the
- 47:40proximity of going up with Jeff Bezos's fiance.
- 47:44You know what? That pays a lot of dividends to
- 47:45the proximity of wealth. That's not how I live my life.
- 47:49But you know, maybe so I don't think the backlash honestly,
- 47:55especially the personal attacks on her.
- 47:57We've all seen the memes of her at her concert, and you'll
- 48:01probably insert it here or something.
- 48:02Or dancing around. We don't have enough of a budget
- 48:05for that. So we're going to believe you.
- 48:07It's just. I think that's more
- 48:09embarrassing. I think your personal attacks
- 48:12really have no place for for anything, but you should be
- 48:16called out for. Well, how are you acting?
- 48:18You're you're a public figure. Absolutely.
- 48:21Would you be mad at me if I went to space?
- 48:24No, like as I said about the other things, I, I just wonder
- 48:27why you were doing it And I, I would call you I, well, actually
- 48:29I probably wouldn't, I would say.
- 48:31You have an e-mail. Well, you heard me say what I
- 48:34said, so you must not have believed it or you must be like,
- 48:38hey, wow, I really want to see the earth from space.
- 48:41I did A0G thing where you go on a plane and it does these arcs.
- 48:46So if you've ever been on a road that has a big a hill on a on a
- 48:49road and you feel that or on a roller coaster, you feel
- 48:52weightless for a second. It's super cool.
- 48:56It's exactly what you would think it is.
- 48:58It didn't change my life at all. I didn't come back and think, Oh
- 49:01my God, I should really try to save the like it was it's it was
- 49:06a joyride. A younger me did that without
- 49:08thinking. I wouldn't do it now.
- 49:11Do you feel like when you're flecked on that, do you regret
- 49:14that because you feel so strongly about the space
- 49:16tourism? I kind of regret it.
- 49:18I kind of so. There's you have to give
- 49:21yourself grace because you were in a different place, you know?
- 49:23I was in a different place and I won it in a in a charity
- 49:27auction, so I can kind of justify a little bit.
- 49:30And I actually didn't even win it.
- 49:31What happened was the person next to me thought it was funny
- 49:34that as it came up, raised the paddle and I was like, oh,
- 49:37you're going to bid on this. He's like, yeah, I'm going to
- 49:39get this too. And it started going up and he,
- 49:41Rick kept raising it. And then so after he won it,
- 49:45they go, oh, paddle, whatever 136 has won this thing.
- 49:49I go, that's my paddle. And he thought it was hilarious.
- 49:52He pranked Lulu. You.
- 49:53Yeah, but it was for charity and he's a good friend of mine.
- 49:57I never sat next to him again at a charity thing.
- 50:00But he's not getting a Dululu hat.
- 50:02It wasn't so expensive that it was like, Oh my gosh, it sent me
- 50:05back or anything. I was.
- 50:07It was appropriately funny. Wait, can I ask, did you ever
- 50:10get that Ferrari? No, no, no, no, no.
- 50:13It was just like a little. I ended up buying AI, bought a
- 50:15sports car that a much more modest sports car to get that
- 50:21out of my system. I ended up getting a ticket that
- 50:24was a really big ticket and I never drove it again after that.
- 50:28It wasn't by the way, it wasn't legally.
- 50:30They didn't take the car away from me or anything.
- 50:32I just was like, you know what? I don't need this.
- 50:35Did you know in Los Angeles you can get tickets if you don't
- 50:38have a front plate license plate?
- 50:41Actually, in New Jersey and everywhere else, I think that's
- 50:43true too. But a lot of car dealers don't
- 50:46put them on because it ruins. They think it ruins the.
- 50:48Aesthetic. I've heard that before that it
- 50:50can ruin the aesthetic of the car.
- 50:52Whatever you need a license plate.
- 50:53Come on. Right.
- 50:54You would think, You would think, yeah, so silly.
- 50:58What would you do if you had like, like let's say you kept
- 51:00getting tickets, like, would you pay it or would you just like
- 51:02start accumulating it and then like my.
- 51:04Gosh, no, I I would. I would.
- 51:06Never, by the way. I would hope that you,
- 51:08everything you've heard so far is that like I'm, I'm not a
- 51:11super justice warrior, but if you break a rule, you pay it and
- 51:16learn from it. Yeah.
- 51:18So no, no, no, I wouldn't. I would never accumulate tickets
- 51:21or be like, oh, the law doesn't apply to me.
- 51:24I think that you might disagree with the law and a lot of people
- 51:27do now, but they don't like do anything about it.
- 51:30They'll they'll create chaos, but they won't like go to a
- 51:34legislator and be like, hey, I think you should do this.
- 51:36I know it's, it feels like a lot of extra steps, but you know why
- 51:39I ask you that? It's because we are going to ask
- 51:42you a few more questions or get a little advice from you.
- 51:44This is our segment WWADGD, which we're changing for you.
- 51:50WWAD DDWADD. You know what, WW besties?
- 51:59We're going to play a variation of what would a delulu girl do?
- 52:01But we're going to have our honorary delulu dad of the day,
- 52:04David, who is actually a dad, give us some advice.
- 52:08So some of her bestie, Lulu submitted their questions,
- 52:10concerns, situations, problems, and they want to know what our
- 52:13delulu take is, our advice, what we would do, and I think it'd be
- 52:18really lovely to have. I will be happy to do that, but
- 52:20I will first preface it all with, you know, parents.
- 52:23I was amazed when we were leaving the hospital with our
- 52:27twins that they don't give you a book or anything.
- 52:29No one tells you like. Oh by the way, make sure.
- 52:31You they never they didn't give you it's a Lulu to true Lulu and
- 52:34easy principles main offense your dreamline.
- 52:35No, they don't give. You that I need to talk to that
- 52:37hospital. That would be at least they I'd
- 52:40get something out of it, no? So yeah, parents do their best.
- 52:43So I'm happy to answer this, but take the advice with a grain of
- 52:46salt. Well, I'm not a parent and you
- 52:48should fully take my advice, but we have a few questions here for
- 52:52you. So the first one is from
- 52:54Anonymous Bestie. How can I tell if my crush
- 52:57actually likes me? What do we think?
- 53:00You know what? You just go up and ask.
- 53:03You know what? This is the this is The thing is
- 53:08you can wonder all you want and you could be afraid for the
- 53:11other person to you want them to take the first step because you
- 53:15know what? But a lot of great love affairs
- 53:17that never happened are because somebody was a little too shy.
- 53:21It's hard to do. It takes a lot of courage.
- 53:24You got to be brave, Lulu. Yeah, but you could just say,
- 53:27listen, I feel this way about you.
- 53:30I don't want to freak you out or anything, and I don't want to
- 53:32lose our friendship, but how do you feel?
- 53:36They might, you know, you might hear something you don't want,
- 53:39but you won't live in this wonderment, so.
- 53:41That's true Lulu, I think OK, I famously am a big fan of just
- 53:46telling people how I feel. Like I really don't like to like
- 53:49dance around things or like play little games.
- 53:51So like I agree with that. But on the flip side, I guess my
- 53:54dulu advice would be that bestie, remember, what do we
- 53:57say? We don't chase, we attract.
- 54:00So what I usually do if I have a crushy washy on someone, Well, I
- 54:02guess, I guess I do tell them and I like see where it what
- 54:06comes out of it. But the flip side of what I do
- 54:08actually, we're going to pin this because that's advice for a
- 54:10different question. But I I'm a big fan of telling
- 54:13people how you feel to. Tell you there are lots of
- 54:16people who will give advice of how to manipulate people into
- 54:20into liking you. You can do negative things where
- 54:23you like make a half joke of putting them down and the rest,
- 54:27and those things can be effective to getting someone to
- 54:31do something that you that that you want maybe, But that's like
- 54:35it's not cool. It's like, really?
- 54:36Like, is that how you want them to like you?
- 54:38Because you've tricked them? Because they won't last?
- 54:41So we're not playing no games. It's doing any well.
- 54:44We're not playing no games. That would mean you are playing
- 54:46games. But let's be here.
- 54:48We're not playing games because if you really care about
- 54:51somebody, you're wasting their time with that.
- 54:53Just be honest. OK, that's good.
- 54:56That's good. That's dad you wanted dad
- 54:58advice. That is solid dad advice.
- 55:00That is very solid Dad advice. Actually, I'm going to I'm going
- 55:04to hold on to that one. OK, So we have another question
- 55:07here similar, similarly, how do I approach someone I'm
- 55:10interested in at the bar? David, what would you do?
- 55:17I would let them approach me. Hey.
- 55:20So, yeah, you just, you could walk up to somebody and just go
- 55:24high and walk by and order your drink.
- 55:27That high creates a mystery, Yeah.
- 55:29I love a little breadcrumbie. Yeah, you could be like give
- 55:32them a compliment if if you feel the compliment.
- 55:35I'm not saying make up a compliment, but like great
- 55:37shirt. It doesn't have to be too
- 55:40forward, right. Like that's creepy and so a well
- 55:44meant compliment. Everyone likes that.
- 55:47Who doesn't like that? So what?
- 55:49About what? About like asking a question?
- 55:51Do you think that would be good? Yeah, you want to know something
- 55:53about them so. OK, what about what do I ask?
- 55:57OK, if I was to purchase someone at the bar, tell me if you think
- 55:59this is good or not. OK, if I was to approach someone
- 56:01at the bar, I was interested in them.
- 56:02I would go up to them and be like, hi, nice shirt.
- 56:06How do you feel about Katy Perry going to space for 11 minutes
- 56:08and then showing a little easy on the screen?
- 56:09What would what would that be good?
- 56:12This is the look you'd probably get fine and then they'd walk
- 56:17away. David, I was coming up to you at
- 56:19the bar. You would have.
- 56:20Had a very no, I definitely would have.
- 56:21I would have had a whole thing. But it's my days of going to
- 56:24bars are long over. I've been married for 30 years,
- 56:27so no, I'm not going to that. I'd be like, wow, you've been
- 56:30reading my tweets. That's creepy.
- 56:31That's strange. I'd run the other way or
- 56:33something. Yeah, one might think it's very
- 56:35creepy to do a deep dive on the tweets.
- 56:37You know, not to do a deep dive on the Creek on the tweets, but
- 56:40at a bar to have like a file on somebody.
- 56:43Yeah, that's. Well, it's a different time.
- 56:45It's a different time, David. Okay, well, I guess what I
- 56:48actually do if I'm interested in someone, if I'm like at a club
- 56:51or a bar, I usually completely ignore them, don't even look at
- 56:54them, don't look in their direction.
- 56:55And in my head I just repeat over and over again, please talk
- 56:57to me, please talk to me, please talk to me.
- 56:59And I will say it has worked. I want to say maybe 100% of the
- 57:02time. It could be because I'm a cutie
- 57:04patootie to be honest, but I also think that I'm manifesting
- 57:08them to. Do you have a sign that says
- 57:10talk to me or? Something I guess it's just like
- 57:12the dimples in the face and it's just like, I don't know, I'm
- 57:15like super cute or whatever. So like they're talking to me.
- 57:17Or it could be the manifestation thing.
- 57:19Yeah, I think it's better to just be direct, look at them and
- 57:22be like hi and then keep talking to your friends.
- 57:24But I'm shy, Lulu. All right.
- 57:26Well, then you'd have to deal with what you have.
- 57:28Well they're going to come up to me either way, period.
- 57:31OK so we have another one. How do I ghost someone I was
- 57:35talking to because my ex came back?
- 57:39Don't, I mean, ghosting is, is something I'm glad I'd never
- 57:42grew up with that in, in in at all because that is
- 57:47psychologically so damaging. And I spoke to someone recently
- 57:51at the event that we were at, a young woman who lives in New
- 57:55York, and she says it's super common.
- 57:57She's on the dating apps. It happens all the time.
- 57:59I'm not going to say who so so. I think I talked to her too.
- 58:05So she and her colleague are on the dating apps and they've gone
- 58:10on dates and more than one date, and then the person just stops
- 58:13responding. Some of them actually turned out
- 58:15to be married. So, yeah, do I think that the
- 58:19culture is something that really messed up of how difficult is it
- 58:23to say, hey, I really enjoyed our couple dates?
- 58:26I want to tell you my ex and I are getting back together.
- 58:30Really sorry if that comes as a disappointment, but that's a
- 58:33maturity that's like, oh, OK. It gives the person closure on
- 58:37OK, this is it's not that they hate me.
- 58:39It's not that I said something wrong.
- 58:42It's that OK? Well, they just, they, they want
- 58:45to try it again with someone, they layer, they they love.
- 58:48OK, that makes sense. Yes, It's mature, it's
- 58:52communicating and it's letting them know that it's not even
- 58:54personal to them. So it's like letting them down
- 58:56easy. It's being very gentle about it.
- 58:58I think the only OK time to go someone is if you you're
- 59:01concerned for your safety. Right in there.
- 59:04I think for me, what I would do is I would just like block them
- 59:08from viewing my stories and then live my life and then just like
- 59:12make myself less desirable to them and then they'll like
- 59:15naturally like not want to. Would you still let them be on
- 59:17passes on your subscriptions? Of course, if they were paying
- 59:21the very low price of 1111 a month to be a part of my passes,
- 59:25they are absolutely welcome on passes which you get unlimited
- 59:28free DMS with me as well. All right, so there you go.
- 59:33That was a good plug. OK, OK, we have one more bestie
- 59:38situation here. This one is from a Brianna, She
- 59:41asked. How do I find out if the guy I'm
- 59:43talking to secretly has a kid? Well, that's actually what I was
- 59:48telling you about of the these young women who were at this
- 59:51event we were at who someone has married, they had children.
- 59:54I was like, wow, did you blow them up?
- 59:56Did you go to their spouse? And they're like, no, because I
- 59:59was afraid something, you know, the person could lose it and
- 1:00:02then they could. Retaliate.
- 1:00:03Yeah, retaliate in, in and so, which feels bad to me because I
- 1:00:08think that it would be great for someone to get their, you know,
- 1:00:11just desserts, but I can also understand their, their real
- 1:00:14concerns. Right.
- 1:00:15It's a safety thing as well. You know, it's really hard if
- 1:00:17someone wants to hide information from somebody to you
- 1:00:21can't show up at their house. But every time that I know
- 1:00:24someone who dated someone, this is an older person who dated
- 1:00:29someone for three or four months and turns out they had a whole
- 1:00:32nother family, married, whatever.
- 1:00:35And she had asked a friend. She's like the friend had asked
- 1:00:38her, so tell me about your new boyfriend.
- 1:00:41He goes, oh, he might be the one, might be someone that I
- 1:00:43marry. And I said, oh, really?
- 1:00:45Yeah. The only negative is that he
- 1:00:46travels a lot. No, really.
- 1:00:49Yeah, he's unavailable because he's traveling a lot.
- 1:00:51And without a pause, her friend was like, Are you sure he's not
- 1:00:54married? It had never occurred to her to
- 1:00:56check that, so her friend looked it up.
- 1:00:59I don't know how found out he was married and that that ended.
- 1:01:04I don't know how you'd find out about children, but yeah, that's
- 1:01:08if you probably not sure and you're wondering about it's
- 1:01:10probably not the person for you. OK that's fair.
- 1:01:13Honestly yes if it feels shady Lulu like that I think you're
- 1:01:16right. Probably.
- 1:01:17Probably something to like reflect on that person and their
- 1:01:20character in general. I guess my advice would be get
- 1:01:23my Co writer to do a deep dive on this person and get the
- 1:01:26answer for it and we'll write into the show.
- 1:01:29Well, thank you. That was WWADDDWWADD.
- 1:01:34And you know what? That was really good delulu
- 1:01:36advice that you gave. And not even delulu advice, just
- 1:01:38advice in general. Obviously with the state of the
- 1:01:40world right now, the country and everything that we have going
- 1:01:42on, it is chaotic. There's a lot of unrest.
- 1:01:46Do you have any advice for any bestie Lulu's who might be
- 1:01:49listening, who might need reassurance, or any affirmations
- 1:01:52or anything that you might want to say to anyone?
- 1:01:55So it doesn't feel that way, but we are the safest time we've
- 1:01:58ever been in. So if you look through history,
- 1:02:01so we're actually really, we're really safe now year to year, it
- 1:02:04fluctuates a little bit and that doesn't help with anxiety,
- 1:02:07right? Because the news feeds you what
- 1:02:10they want you to hear. And I think that's been great
- 1:02:13for the last few years. We, we start to come to
- 1:02:15understand algorithms a little better that oh, if you, if
- 1:02:18you're worried about things, you watch news more often, you watch
- 1:02:21news more often, you watch more commercials.
- 1:02:23OK, great. Just realize that they want you
- 1:02:26to think that. But I've seen so many good
- 1:02:29things happen. I saw it on on the way here.
- 1:02:34I was in line for a flight and a woman walked up behind me and
- 1:02:38said, my flight leaves in a few minutes.
- 1:02:40Can I cut in front of you? This is before the TSA.
- 1:02:42She's probably going to miss her flight anyway.
- 1:02:44But I was like, yeah, no problem.
- 1:02:46There were 30 people that all said sure, no problem.
- 1:02:49And. That's really nice.
- 1:02:51And you just go, OK, that's not, you know, Nobel Peace Prize
- 1:02:55type, like charity. It won't be reported on to Lulu
- 1:02:58Daily. Everyone did it without a pause.
- 1:03:00No one was arguing. No one said, well, how much
- 1:03:03longer do you have or whatever. And so the world is actually a
- 1:03:06very kind place when it doesn't feel that way.
- 1:03:10I really think that people need to either get therapy or get
- 1:03:13some sort of resource to talk to someone about.
- 1:03:16Even if it's a friend, great. But if you want professional
- 1:03:20like, hey, tools to go through these things, you're really
- 1:03:23better off talking to someone who's been trained in that, who
- 1:03:26can help you realize like, OK, and by the way, you may be going
- 1:03:29through trauma yourself. That really is bad.
- 1:03:32And you do need someone to talk to.
- 1:03:34It's not that affordable. It's, it's not that easy for
- 1:03:38everyone, and I understand that. But yeah, you asked what advice
- 1:03:41I'd give. I'd say find somebody that can
- 1:03:43help you navigate your anxiety about things.
- 1:03:46Yeah, and then also being able to talk about is so healing as
- 1:03:49well. Like honestly, I know for me,
- 1:03:51when I'm feeling anxious, if I'm able to like, you know, chitchat
- 1:03:54or rant about it, it does really make me feel better.
- 1:03:58And you see my therapist soon. Well, it's funny because in
- 1:04:01investing it's a lot of times you'll have things completely
- 1:04:04wrong and things will be going against you.
- 1:04:06And if you don't have a community to talk to of people
- 1:04:09who've traded in stocks or whatever, you feel really alone,
- 1:04:12like. And so calling friends who are
- 1:04:14trading similar stocks and you feel like, gosh, guess what?
- 1:04:17I was down this much this month. And they go, OK, but you've been
- 1:04:20up before. You know this happens, the
- 1:04:22reassurance. It's nice to have that
- 1:04:24community. And a lot of people don't have
- 1:04:26that. So, you know, trying to find
- 1:04:28that out is is actually a lot is is kind of the a great step.
- 1:04:32I have that, thankfully, and I'm really grateful for it because I
- 1:04:35am a member of Wall Street Beats Passes and having that community
- 1:04:40really reassures me, especially when I'm feeling anxious about
- 1:04:43my stock Lulu's. Yeah, but like I said, whether
- 1:04:45it's Wall Street beats or someone else, but yeah, the
- 1:04:49news, the news could be really upsetting.
- 1:04:52Just remember, you're not in danger right now.
- 1:04:55And so I think that's people, I don't want to say they overreact
- 1:04:59because they're really reacting, but you just have to find ways
- 1:05:02to to deal with it. And I think professionals are
- 1:05:04really good at it. Well, thank you.
- 1:05:06That was really reassuring. Honestly, especially knowing
- 1:05:08that it's, it's not as bad as it seems or it feels because I feel
- 1:05:12like it's so easy to catastrophize and have things
- 1:05:15been sensationalized and that's actually really, really, really
- 1:05:18assuring. Well, because you remember,
- 1:05:21people have been arguing about politics and different countries
- 1:05:26and all sorts of these same arguments were going on 100
- 1:05:29years ago. So it's not as though we've
- 1:05:32invented new things to worry about other than space travel.
- 1:05:35Well, you know what? I'm so happy that you were here
- 1:05:38and you're here for a very special episode.
- 1:05:40This episode with David Maris of Wall Street Beats is actually
- 1:05:43our pride episode cuz you are a really big ally.
- 1:05:49I am. OK, good, because our producer
- 1:05:51is homophobic. That's horrible to say.
- 1:05:54I know that he's not you. You would never be around
- 1:05:57somebody who who was, so let's not say that about.
- 1:06:01When they're threatening me, I am.
- 1:06:04They're just threatening you for you, not because of not because
- 1:06:07of any other reason. OK, fair enough.
- 1:06:10Well, we did a lot of research on you and you've been so
- 1:06:15exactly, exactly what you've been saying this entire time
- 1:06:18about having empathy. And you know, you had tweeted
- 1:06:20before about like being really empathetic towards the LGBTQ
- 1:06:24community, the queer community. And that's why we wanted you to
- 1:06:27be our Pride guest. Oh well, I appreciate that.
- 1:06:30I didn't know that ahead of time.
- 1:06:31But no, I think that people need to know that there are allies
- 1:06:35that that are outside of maybe their circle to know that people
- 1:06:42love who they love. And you can disagree on certain
- 1:06:46aspects, but you can't really, how can you disagree with that?
- 1:06:50And so. I don't know, Brett.
- 1:06:52How can you? No, I mean, it's a, it's AI have
- 1:06:57people in my in my life that that are lesbian, that are gay
- 1:07:03people in my family. And I think that they're not
- 1:07:07defined by that, but they shouldn't be attacked for it,
- 1:07:11right? And, and I think that people,
- 1:07:14they need to know, I will say, I think many in the straight
- 1:07:17community don't know how to be allies.
- 1:07:19They don't know, hey, what does it mean to be an ally?
- 1:07:23And I think like during pride month to send out a tweet that
- 1:07:25says, by the way, I'm an ally. They, they don't think that
- 1:07:29that's going to do anything. So they're like, and will people
- 1:07:32think I'm just doing it because it, you know, shows us, no, it
- 1:07:36really means stuff to people. Like it really neat means a lot.
- 1:07:41And so no, I'm, I'm, I'm surprised that you found that.
- 1:07:43But it's not that surprising because I put it on LinkedIn and
- 1:07:46I put it on Twitter. I don't think that people should
- 1:07:51be discriminated against for for who they love at all.
- 1:07:55That post was right there in between the Katy Perry shade
- 1:07:58tweets. Yeah.
- 1:07:59Yeah, but if I I would, I think that's the way more important to
- 1:08:03tweet. Right, they could both exist,
- 1:08:05and they both do exist. Well, the LinkedIn one, I would
- 1:08:08suggest people to go to the LinkedIn one.
- 1:08:11It's a little bit longer, but it really does explain that people
- 1:08:15live alone and they live afraid and it's the number one reason
- 1:08:19for teen homelessness. There are lots of charities and
- 1:08:24so while people think of, oh, I'm going to do this for
- 1:08:26charity, if they really want to be an ally, give to the Trevor
- 1:08:30Project, give to, you know, there's, there's one that does
- 1:08:35hiking for out, you know, for people who are out who want to
- 1:08:37be outside hiking, but they are afraid because they, they
- 1:08:43perceive the outdoors community as not being helpful to LGBTQ.
- 1:08:49So there's lots of charities that you can actually do
- 1:08:51something, but if you don't have the money to do that or you
- 1:08:54don't, you know, just tweet something, say something, wear a
- 1:08:58shirt that says Ally. Appear on a queer podcast.
- 1:09:01Yeah, well, you don't say that this is a queer podcast, but I'm
- 1:09:05happy to be here because of you. But I also think like, I'm glad
- 1:09:10you brought it up because there are there are lots of people who
- 1:09:12suffer who aren't in cities or in communities that support gay
- 1:09:17rights. Thank you.
- 1:09:19Like as someone who's also a really big ally to the queer
- 1:09:22community, it probably means a lot to them for sure.
- 1:09:25Now, are you an ally to the straight community?
- 1:09:33Brett is lying. Brett is a liar.
- 1:09:37He's actually threatening me right now.
- 1:09:40You can't hear it because he doesn't have a mic and he's off
- 1:09:42camera. But of course, I'm an ally to
- 1:09:45every community out there, especially a marginalized
- 1:09:48community such as the straight community.
- 1:09:52I don't know if the straight community really needs more
- 1:09:55allies, but I agree that it's, you know, pride month's not
- 1:09:58about making straight people uncomfortable.
- 1:10:02It's about making people who feel uncomfortable more
- 1:10:06comfortable making sure that people can exist and not have to
- 1:10:10live in fear. You know, I went to the Pulse
- 1:10:15nightclub last month to see the tributes that are there in
- 1:10:19Florida, to see the tributes that are there.
- 1:10:21And it's sad because there were plans to build a big memorial,
- 1:10:26$20 million was raised and it's all been wasted.
- 1:10:29They, I think, I think they've declared bankruptcy and
- 1:10:33everyone. And so that, that, by the way,
- 1:10:37people who donated money then feel less, I don't want to say
- 1:10:40they feel less of an ally, but they feel like, hey, I, I wanted
- 1:10:43a tribute because they actually, the people who donated said, I
- 1:10:46want to give to a memorial here because I want people to know I
- 1:10:50stand for people having their rights to have a good time and
- 1:10:55to not live in fear. And to exist.
- 1:10:56And, and so it's, it's a kind of decrepit memorial at this point
- 1:11:01because it was never built. It's just a kind of, but a lot
- 1:11:05of politicians went there, gave big speeches saying that, oh,
- 1:11:09they stand for this and they stand for that.
- 1:11:11But I would hope that at one, at one point someone makes that
- 1:11:14memorial because it's, it's really sad.
- 1:11:17But there are lots of ways to be an ally.
- 1:11:20We really appreciate that. Happy prime month, David.
- 1:11:24Thanks. Your episode's airing in July.
- 1:11:27So great. David, while we're here, I feel
- 1:11:30like we have talked so much and I've gone to know you so well.
- 1:11:33And I'm sure every bestie, Lulu, who is intently listening right
- 1:11:37now has gone to know you really well.
- 1:11:39I want to play a little game with you.
- 1:11:40We're going to try to guess your Zodiac sign.
- 1:11:43So before we play, do you know your Zodiac sign?
- 1:11:45Yes, I do. Do you OK?
- 1:11:47Do you agree with your Zodiac sign based on what you know
- 1:11:49about it? So at the start of the episode I
- 1:11:51explained as a very proud Catholic, I of course know my
- 1:11:56not as a Catholic. I know my Zodiac side.
- 1:11:58I don't believe that a Zodiac sign is going to affect and I
- 1:12:01don't think that 112th of the population all share the same
- 1:12:05personality traits because they were born in a certain time.
- 1:12:08Just as I'm super happy to accept your citrulline.
- 1:12:11Is that right? Or.
- 1:12:12Citrine. Oh, I thought it was citrulline
- 1:12:14here, no. Yeah, I need that back now
- 1:12:17actually. You know, I don't I don't
- 1:12:19believe in magic and I don't believe in in that.
- 1:12:22Do I think it's super entertaining and it's fun to do?
- 1:12:24Absolutely. Do I know my Zodiac sign?
- 1:12:26Yes. Do I agree that wow, lots of
- 1:12:28that sounds like me. I think a lot of people would
- 1:12:30find whatever their Zodiac sign were would would agree, but yes
- 1:12:34I do. Well, OK, so yes, David does
- 1:12:37know his Zodiac sign. Based.
- 1:12:40On everything that you said, I'm going to take a guess.
- 1:12:43Lulu and Bestie, Lulu's listening at home.
- 1:12:45I want you to guess, too. We obviously know a lot about
- 1:12:47David. He has a lot of integrity.
- 1:12:50He's a hard worker. He stands on business.
- 1:12:53Period. OK, let's see.
- 1:12:56I feel like the entire time we were talking, I was, I was like
- 1:13:00thinking about what you would be.
- 1:13:01My first guess is I'm just going to go with it.
- 1:13:03Besties, Are you ready? You make your guess. 321, You
- 1:13:05made your guess. OK.
- 1:13:06I think you are a Capricorn, am I right?
- 1:13:10No. OK, Bret's guessing.
- 1:13:15What do we have, Brett? Scorpio.
- 1:13:20Well, OK, more about. David more about David Brett
- 1:13:24just guessed that David is a Scorpio, which is wrong.
- 1:13:27David is a gluttonous piece of shit.
- 1:13:32That's a that's a call back to a previous episode.
- 1:13:34Hi Paige. OK, not a Scorpio, not a
- 1:13:37Capricorn. No.
- 1:13:39Virgo. So.
- 1:13:42Yes. No.
- 1:13:44OK, OK. I don't know then.
- 1:13:47Sagittarius. I would never have guessed.
- 1:13:50Oh, my gosh. OK, You know, a little a little
- 1:13:53more about astrology. Yes.
- 1:13:55I I don't know. I wouldn't have guessed that.
- 1:13:57Bestie. Did you guess right?
- 1:13:58The best astrological sign there is other than maybe Aquarius,
- 1:14:02but I'd say Sagittarius #1. How do we feel about Virgos?
- 1:14:07I don't know enough to know about about Virgos.
- 1:14:09What month is that? That's September and August.
- 1:14:14When? In September.
- 1:14:16Early September. Late August.
- 1:14:18Oh no, then I pass on the Virgo. Oh, OK.
- 1:14:21Well, Virgos, pass on you. Sorry, see you Virgos.
- 1:14:24Don't come to Wall Street beats Virgos.
- 1:14:26I was, I was going to ask you to guess my Zodiac sign, but I
- 1:14:29guess, I guess I gave it away. You don't know enough about
- 1:14:32Zodiac signs to have a guess. Would you have been able to
- 1:14:34guess, do you think? No, no, no, I don't.
- 1:14:36I don't know enough. OK, guess Brett's 321 go.
- 1:14:39Gemini. Yes, a Gemini man.
- 1:14:43Is he really? No, he's a Scorpio, but that was
- 1:14:47a really good guess. Shout out to my Geminis.
- 1:14:49We're filming this during Gemini.
- 1:14:50Because he seems balanced and pretty straightforward.
- 1:14:54That's Libra. All right.
- 1:14:57Sorry, Libra. He could be Libra.
- 1:15:00Libras are beautiful and look at Brett.
- 1:15:03Oh yeah, no, you're right, Geminis are real pains.
- 1:15:05Oh, you said it on me. I got bestie feedback and we
- 1:15:09decided the Gemini slander should be out.
- 1:15:12But that was that was David said it, not me.
- 1:15:15OK, well, maybe maybe that could have been what we're going to go
- 1:15:19into next. We're going to ask you your most
- 1:15:20delulu take. We talked about a little bit
- 1:15:22about the delulu here. Do you have anything that you
- 1:15:25feel is like it's completely delusional, could be silly, fun,
- 1:15:27controversial, serious. What are you thinking?
- 1:15:30What do you think? Lulu's.
- 1:15:32I have lots of those thoughts every day.
- 1:15:34I try to keep them pretty close so that people don't think I'm
- 1:15:37delulu. Well, we want to hear it here on
- 1:15:39Delulu. OK.
- 1:15:40So car rentals, absolutely the worst thing people have to go
- 1:15:46through on a regular basis. We should not normalize that.
- 1:15:50You sign up for a car, you rent the car, you do everything.
- 1:15:54And by the way, it's like applying for a job in the space
- 1:15:58station or something. You have to fill out all this
- 1:16:00sort of stuff. You show up, you still have to
- 1:16:02do it again. And whatever car you picked out
- 1:16:04ahead of time, they don't have. So you might as well, they might
- 1:16:08as well just say a random car. And so this happened to me over
- 1:16:12the weekend. And so I said, listen, OK, I
- 1:16:16shouldn't say which because they may end up being a sponsor of
- 1:16:18yours, but I'll say, I'll say one of the major car rental
- 1:16:22places. I like all of them.
- 1:16:24And they say they go, yeah, sorry, we don't have the one you
- 1:16:27signed up for. I said, but I signed up for it
- 1:16:29and I prepaid for it. OK, sorry.
- 1:16:32But I'm in the president's circle.
- 1:16:34Like I practically know the president.
- 1:16:35You gave me the president's circle.
- 1:16:37And they go, yeah, sorry. So.
- 1:16:38Did you tell them you're David Mayer is a wall?
- 1:16:40Street that none of that helped in fact, it may have hurt, but
- 1:16:43then you. Should have said you were Ryan
- 1:16:45Lew with the Lulu. I said that would have unlocked
- 1:16:47at all. Yeah, you would have gone the
- 1:16:49entire car. So I said, OK, can you just
- 1:16:51drive me to 6th? 6th is a European one that's
- 1:16:56breaking into the US. They're amazing.
- 1:16:57They don't sponsor me. I'm saying that just because
- 1:17:00they deserve the positive energy.
- 1:17:02Every time I've rented from them, the car I pick is the car
- 1:17:05I get. That's all I want out of a car
- 1:17:07rental place. So I said, could you just drive
- 1:17:09me there? They're like, no, no, we're
- 1:17:10going to get you a car. An hour later they get me a car
- 1:17:13that I didn't ask for. And I drove away.
- 1:17:15Sad I. Don't think it was a delulu take
- 1:17:17at all. It is a fault, faulty system.
- 1:17:20I think the president should ban them from being able to rent
- 1:17:23cars. How's that for delusional?
- 1:17:25OK, I actually, no, I stand on that.
- 1:17:28I stand on that really hard. You have a vendetta against this
- 1:17:32car rental. I really do.
- 1:17:33I tweeted about it too. I was like, look, you guys are
- 1:17:35really bad about it. It's like you're you're
- 1:17:37horrible, by the way. My Co writer is watching this
- 1:17:40right now and he's like yes he did tweet about this.
- 1:17:42Yeah, and it's the same thing as going to get blood like at a lab
- 1:17:46company. There are only really two major
- 1:17:48ones. It's the same thing.
- 1:17:49Miserable. In this day and age, you
- 1:17:51shouldn't make things. Miserable for customers. 100% OK
- 1:17:55not delulu. I feel like that was that was
- 1:17:57super. All right, you're right.
- 1:17:58It's a man of the people, kind of.
- 1:17:59Absolutely. Give me something juicy, delulu.
- 1:18:03Licorice is is ridiculous. Oh.
- 1:18:05Not the licorice stray. We got licorice in the kitchen.
- 1:18:10Get rid of it. It's disgusting.
- 1:18:11It's like eating plastic. They're going to find out that
- 1:18:13it's like 80% plastic one day. Sorry Twizzlers, but it's gross.
- 1:18:18Anyone who gets that at A at a movie Like have you ever had
- 1:18:22popcorn? Interesting.
- 1:18:23You know what? I saw someone today eating
- 1:18:25Twizzlers. I saw someone today eating a
- 1:18:27licorice and they look like they enjoyed it quite a bit.
- 1:18:30They just have no joy in their life.
- 1:18:31So they they grew up without joy and they're like, whoa,
- 1:18:34licorice. Great.
- 1:18:36It's like, OK, have you tried pizza?
- 1:18:38Like there's lots of other things you could be eating to
- 1:18:40eat. Licorice is just a waste of
- 1:18:43time, energy, calories. It's.
- 1:18:45You know what, I didn't really want to get into it, but now
- 1:18:47that you brought it up, so this individual who can eat the
- 1:18:50licorice, I was like in my head I was like, bro, that's fucking
- 1:18:53plastic, right? I was like, why don't you try
- 1:18:55something healthy, an alternative like mushroom snacks
- 1:18:57or something? And then they were like, they
- 1:19:00were so against it. It was crazy.
- 1:19:01There is no one. So.
- 1:19:03So think of something that you enjoy having.
- 1:19:05OK. And then you finished it.
- 1:19:07And so I was like, hey, do you want another?
- 1:19:08You're going to be like, yes, yeah.
- 1:19:10Cupcake. Yes.
- 1:19:12Yo, pretty much anything. OK.
- 1:19:14Have you ever seen someone like double down on licorice?
- 1:19:17You know what this person did? It was shocking it.
- 1:19:21Was shocking well how? Miserable.
- 1:19:22Do you think they are? They grew up without heat or
- 1:19:26something like there's no, they have to be like cave dweller,
- 1:19:30Yeah. Oh my God, yes, absolutely.
- 1:19:32Oh my God, I'm going to remember that.
- 1:19:34Thank you. I feel, I feel vindicated now.
- 1:19:36Yeah, and by the way, anyone watching who works for a
- 1:19:38licorice or a candy company, they're like, oh, we're going to
- 1:19:41win them over by sending me licorice.
- 1:19:42Seriously, don't. I don't.
- 1:19:44I don't like it. I don't think it should exist.
- 1:19:46No licorice PR to David Maris, please.
- 1:19:49No. OK, that OK then You know what I
- 1:19:52will say my delulu take is I will stand by licorice because I
- 1:19:56would welcome a sponsorship. Seriously.
- 1:19:58Have some The whole thing, this whole episode is about ethics.
- 1:20:01OK. Please have some ethics against
- 1:20:04licorice. My is my ethics being pressured
- 1:20:07into not liking liquor? The number one licorice company
- 1:20:09probably makes no money anyway because no one likes it that
- 1:20:12much. So, you know, just be like pro
- 1:20:14chocolate. As someone who has stood up
- 1:20:17against big pharma, I will not let you bully me into not liking
- 1:20:22licorice. I'm a whistleblower.
- 1:20:24I'm whistleblowing on licorice. OK, well we'll see about that.
- 1:20:29OK, well, you know what, we're going to get into some to you
- 1:20:30Lulu. Now that you're talking about
- 1:20:32whistleblowing, I have some some potential whistleblowers for you
- 1:20:35and we're going to talk about the hot Goss.
- 1:20:37So you are a part of Wall Street beats.
- 1:20:40It's you and 9 under there, nine other individuals a part of Wall
- 1:20:44Street beats giving advice, insights on the stocks.
- 1:20:48We're going to talk about that dynamic.
- 1:20:50We're going to get into all the T Lulu.
- 1:20:51Do you know what the T Lulu is? I don't, but I'm already
- 1:20:54uncomfortable starting to sweat on the idea that I'm going to
- 1:20:57have to talk about my colleagues well.
- 1:20:59You know what, David? We won't make this an
- 1:21:01uncomfortable experience for you.
- 1:21:02We are not going to ask you to name any names, but can you name
- 1:21:06the person that you like working with the least on Wall Street?
- 1:21:09Absolutely. Yes, let's hear it.
- 1:21:12No, because they'll know who it is, but absolutely not.
- 1:21:17I'm not going to go into that. Everyone who works with more
- 1:21:20than one person and sometimes with, if you work with one
- 1:21:23person like you and Brett, you may have somebody that you don't
- 1:21:27you don't really like that much. There's mine is Brett.
- 1:21:30I mean, it's pretty clear there's no, there's no benefit
- 1:21:34of like calling that out now because maybe like I said, maybe
- 1:21:38they're going through something, maybe they grew up in a in a
- 1:21:41dysfunctional area. I don't.
- 1:21:43Know maybe they grew up without heat.
- 1:21:44Yeah, maybe they're licorice lovers and they're just
- 1:21:47miserable all the time. Perhaps they are OK I.
- 1:21:50I think legitimately they're they're one or two that don't
- 1:21:53pull their weight. And the key is to to find out
- 1:21:58are they aware of that and can you motivate them to do?
- 1:22:00That would you communicate with them about this?
- 1:22:02Yeah, you have to. You have to have.
- 1:22:04You done it. Yeah, as a business you have to
- 1:22:05say, hey, listen, this is what's expected of you.
- 1:22:07One said, look, I'm just not going to do that.
- 1:22:09I can't do that. And so you go, OK, well, I'm
- 1:22:11going to make accommodations for that because they explain why.
- 1:22:15Oh, OK. And you feel like it's fair for
- 1:22:16you to make accommodations then? Yeah, I, I think you have to.
- 1:22:19You just have to. I know I shouldn't say you have
- 1:22:21to. In certain circumstances, you
- 1:22:23should. Right.
- 1:22:25So OK, but you're not naming any names.
- 1:22:27No, absolutely not. OK, but do you generally enjoy
- 1:22:30working with the people you work with?
- 1:22:31Yeah, the team's great, the team's great.
- 1:22:33And so we we all enjoy each other.
- 1:22:35OK, I have another T Lulu question for you.
- 1:22:38Who do you think should be the next celebrity sent to space?
- 1:22:43Given that, that's hard to say because.
- 1:22:46Would you send me to space? No, because there's a chance you
- 1:22:50wouldn't come back like these, these things.
- 1:22:52It's not. So people worry about flying on
- 1:22:54planes. Planes are really, really safe.
- 1:22:57How long have we been sending people into space to look
- 1:23:00around? Not that often.
- 1:23:02So I wouldn't wish that on somebody because I think there's
- 1:23:05a chance that it blows. Up but I saw Katy Perry do it so
- 1:23:10I feel like I could do it too. Oh, you definitely could do it.
- 1:23:13Like there's no, there's, there's not.
- 1:23:15They're not astronauts, They're not trained to do it.
- 1:23:18It's not physically difficult other than like nausea and and
- 1:23:21stuff. And so yeah, no, you could
- 1:23:24definitely do it if you really wanted to do it.
- 1:23:26I'd be like, yeah, go for it. I think it's we have like.
- 1:23:28A girls trip coming up soon, my friend Mrs. Bezos was just like,
- 1:23:31do you want to like go up? And I was like, yeah, sure, why
- 1:23:34not? I wouldn't do it but.
- 1:23:35You wouldn't go. I wouldn't go if you paid me
- 1:23:38$1,000,000 to go to space. What about 4.6 billion?
- 1:23:41No, I wouldn't do that. I think my family might throw me
- 1:23:44on the on and say, listen, you're doing that.
- 1:23:46But no, I wouldn't do it. OK.
- 1:23:49I love this world and I love this life, so risking it
- 1:23:53unnecessarily is a really bad idea in my view.
- 1:23:55What do you like about the world?
- 1:23:58Oh my gosh, so many things. Like, I'm amazed, and I know a
- 1:24:04lot of your viewers are going to be like, this is so silly.
- 1:24:07I'm amazed that daffodils come up every year.
- 1:24:09No, that's not Toledo. I love daffodils.
- 1:24:12It's just here it is. It's the middle of winter, it's
- 1:24:15freezing cold. I wouldn't be able to last 1/2
- 1:24:17hour. These things last all winter and
- 1:24:21then they come up year after year.
- 1:24:23That is so. So you say poetic and what?
- 1:24:25Do you say what do I like about the world?
- 1:24:27You like everything. So there's so many things to if
- 1:24:30you, if you focus on things that bring you joy, you'll see lots
- 1:24:34of them. If you focus on catastrophizing
- 1:24:36or this is how things are supposed to be, you'll be
- 1:24:41miserable all the time. That's what a lot of my content
- 1:24:43is based about. It's just like being positive
- 1:24:45and just like paying attention to the things to be grateful
- 1:24:48for. And I'm a true believer of that
- 1:24:49because I feel like it's also a lot of confirmation bias.
- 1:24:52It's like if you are going to pay attention to the good things
- 1:24:54that happen in your day or the good things in your life and the
- 1:24:56good things in the world, you are going to be happier and
- 1:24:57you're going to be more positive versus if you're focusing on the
- 1:25:00negative, you're going to be in your head and you're going to be
- 1:25:01miserable. You might end up liking
- 1:25:02licorice, who knows. Martin Seligman is a famous
- 1:25:06positive psychologist and and you can go on his website and
- 1:25:10take all these tests and they show you like, yeah, this is how
- 1:25:13you can be happier. You can be happier if you do the
- 1:25:16things you like doing. So he has a thing called
- 1:25:19signature strengths. You take this very in depth
- 1:25:22thing and you find out what you think are your strengths.
- 1:25:26So it's not necessarily you might say courage is your is
- 1:25:29your strength. What's your strength?
- 1:25:31And you go, yeah, I'm not going to get into that.
- 1:25:33They give you a few of them, but intellectual honesty was one of
- 1:25:37them and integrity. So to to be to fit with the your
- 1:25:41own. Brand.
- 1:25:42Creativity and courage was one of them.
- 1:25:45That's why I use it. So I'm not going to tell you all
- 1:25:47of them, but but the idea isn't that you actually have those
- 1:25:50things, it's the idea that you perceive them.
- 1:25:52If you use those things on a regular basis, you'll be happier
- 1:25:56because you feel like you're using your strengths.
- 1:26:00And yeah, it actually it does. It does work.
- 1:26:01Now, I will say if I relate that whole car rental thing back and
- 1:26:06I say, well, wait a second, you were just being miserable about
- 1:26:09that. I'd say the people that tried to
- 1:26:11help were fantastic. They didn't have the car, to be
- 1:26:15fair. They just didn't have the car
- 1:26:16there. So their system is messed up.
- 1:26:19The people there weren't messed up.
- 1:26:20They were super nice about it. They're like, let's try to find
- 1:26:23you a car now. They're not empowered to
- 1:26:25actually get me the car. They're but yeah, so if you look
- 1:26:28for the good, you'll find the good.
- 1:26:29I love that exactly, and I'm a big believer in that.
- 1:26:32I like to really focus on the positive things and like really
- 1:26:36to stay grounded in what I'm grateful for.
- 1:26:38And I think being grateful breeds more things to be
- 1:26:43grateful for. You know, people want to help
- 1:26:45people, so Dale Carnegie said. You know what, everyone?
- 1:26:49Why Everyone loves puppies Because they're unconditionally
- 1:26:52happy. They're happy to see you.
- 1:26:55Guess what? People are happier to see you.
- 1:26:58If you're a happy person, you go, well, I'm not going to fake
- 1:27:01it. It's like, no, no, it's not
- 1:27:03about faking it. It's trying to really find the
- 1:27:05happiness and realize that. Yeah.
- 1:27:08So it's your idea that good things come to people who are
- 1:27:10happier. It's true because people like to
- 1:27:13do things for people who are easier to get along with.
- 1:27:15Oh my gosh, Yeah, that's entirely true.
- 1:27:17Yeah. I like that that puppy
- 1:27:20technology. And we talked about Bioval.
- 1:27:22When you are difficult to people, guess what, They're
- 1:27:25difficult to you too. That's shade, Lulu.
- 1:27:28Yeah, we were Googling Bioval because I was like, what the
- 1:27:30hell is that? And it came up.
- 1:27:32It was like Bioval scams because of you.
- 1:27:36Yeah, I'm not, I'm not going to comment on anything.
- 1:27:38They the lawsuit was the lawsuit and it was all resolved and I
- 1:27:42think we were equally happy with how it was resolved.
- 1:27:45Are you media trained? No, no, I mean, if you mean like
- 1:27:50have I ever sat down with someone who said like how to how
- 1:27:53to answer things? No, but I've done I've been on
- 1:27:57CNBCA lot and NBC and AB like a lot of media and.
- 1:28:00All the all the letters. There is, I tried to think
- 1:28:04there's, I don't think there's a media thing that I haven't been
- 1:28:06on so. That's true.
- 1:28:08You're even on the Lulu. Exactly.
- 1:28:10This was the last of the bingo card.
- 1:28:12Oh yeah, the biggest one. The most well respected one out
- 1:28:16of those that you've mentioned. Well, you know how you've been
- 1:28:19like quoting people throughout this entire podcast, Lulu?
- 1:28:24A couple of people, but not a lot, but OK.
- 1:28:26More than most of you, I guess. Do you think that when you leave
- 1:28:30set today you'll start quoting me?
- 1:28:32Absolutely. What's a quote don't say from
- 1:28:34me? I will say probably delulu a few
- 1:28:37times because I still don't wholly understand what it means.
- 1:28:40It's very catchy, but I think that's the, that's like the the
- 1:28:45I say magic of it. That's that's the appeal of it
- 1:28:47because. The magic.
- 1:28:48Yeah, I told you, I don't really believe magic, but magic in that
- 1:28:51sense, I think that. You don't.
- 1:28:53You don't believe in magic? I don't believe I believe in
- 1:28:55magicians. Can we show the camera?
- 1:28:57What you're holding is exactly my what you've been clutching.
- 1:29:00Yeah, it's because I'm, I'm worried that I might have to use
- 1:29:02it as a weapon or something. So I'm like just holding on.
- 1:29:05And also if I threw it over my shoulder, I was like, yeah,
- 1:29:07whatever. That really isn't very
- 1:29:09endearing. So it's not very nice.
- 1:29:11I mean, you're not going to have to use as a weapon.
- 1:29:13I don't do all my own fighting. Brett, be careful.
- 1:29:16A whole hour has gone by and I've got no money though, so I'm
- 1:29:19not sure if it. You know that though.
- 1:29:21Have you checked? Have you checked the stock
- 1:29:22Lulu's? You know what?
- 1:29:24When I was doing my daily round table with the Wall Street
- 1:29:27beats, I felt very confident about my investment decisions
- 1:29:32from these informed professionals.
- 1:29:34Good. Well, we hope to.
- 1:29:35We hope that you make money. Thank you.
- 1:29:39OK, well what do you think the Lulu means?
- 1:29:42So I picked up on delusional and that's when you asked me like,
- 1:29:45what's your delulu take on something that was the licorice
- 1:29:48you? Were using the context Lulu.
- 1:29:51Delusional. I was saying, yeah, must be
- 1:29:53short for that, but if it's something else, well then I'm
- 1:29:56way off base and you went with it.
- 1:29:57So for now, that's what it means to me.
- 1:29:59Should we break it down? So if we don't know what delulu
- 1:30:03means, my name is Ryan Liu Delulu.
- 1:30:10I'm not following, I'm a little slow.
- 1:30:12Let's look at the hat. So let's look at my sock.
- 1:30:15Actually Fred's matching. So we have the hat.
- 1:30:19OK. So, Lou, I get the part.
- 1:30:20Lou is your name. Is it the first Lou or the
- 1:30:22second Lou? Well, it would be the second
- 1:30:24Lou. OK, yes.
- 1:30:26So then we have De Lou. De Lou, which is short for.
- 1:30:29I don't know, I thought delusional, but you, you kind of
- 1:30:33scared me away from that so. I'm just gaslighting you.
- 1:30:35It is short for delusional. So this is Delulu Ryan Lu where
- 1:30:40we talk about manifestation and we live our best delulu lives.
- 1:30:44Awesome. OK, so now I get it.
- 1:30:46So I was pretty much spot on already.
- 1:30:48Yes, use the proper context Lulu's to discover that it is
- 1:30:51about being delusional. Yes.
- 1:30:54All right. So did you decide on what quote
- 1:30:55you're going to quote from me? I don't know something I'm going
- 1:30:58to say don't be delulu or I'm going to say be delulu to people
- 1:31:02and they're going to be like, what is that?
- 1:31:03Or they're going to say, or they'll just laugh nervously and
- 1:31:06walk away. Well you need to specify it's
- 1:31:08delulu derogatory or delulu which is never derogatory.
- 1:31:13So it's like, OK, that's delulu. I'll probably say instead of
- 1:31:18saying like, that's awesome, I'll just be like, that's
- 1:31:20delulu. Oh my God, I love it.
- 1:31:21And I'll see if people just are like, all right.
- 1:31:23Yay, I get a royalty every time you say that.
- 1:31:26OK, so we're going to move on to another game.
- 1:31:28We're going to play with you. This is claim.
- 1:31:30We're never ending, are we? This is we're not going for
- 1:31:33another game. David, you're a yapper, Chino
- 1:31:35and I have segments to get. Through did we did we did I not
- 1:31:38know that this is going to be ours, but all right, OK.
- 1:31:41Wait, let's get a time check. You're at an.
- 1:31:44Hour. We're going to play a game,
- 1:31:47David. We're going to play a game of
- 1:31:49claim or rebuke. So claim is you accept this,
- 1:31:54rebuke is you reject it. I'm going to wrap a fire some
- 1:31:56topics to you just got it. You can give contacts, you can
- 1:31:59explain it or you can just say what your answer is, claim or
- 1:32:01rebuke. Are you ready?
- 1:32:03Why not claim or disclaim? I mean, it's a little catcher.
- 1:32:06Oh, because in delulu it's claim or review, OK.
- 1:32:10Claim or rebuke? But but on Wall Street beads you
- 1:32:13could do claim display. Your show, your rules, all right
- 1:32:18it. Would it, would it would seem
- 1:32:19that way, David. OK, OK.
- 1:32:22So we're going to start. You ready?
- 1:32:24Sure. First one, Katy Perry.
- 1:32:28Rebuke. OK, OK.
- 1:32:31I'm going to claim. Actually, I changed my mind.
- 1:32:33It should be easier than that. I'm going to claim because her
- 1:32:38her hits are great, I'm going to go what's.
- 1:32:40Her favorite Katy Perry song? California Girls is a pretty,
- 1:32:45pretty great song. Yeah, that's a pretty good 10.
- 1:32:47What's the one about the the, like, shooting Star one?
- 1:32:51Firework. Yeah, Firework.
- 1:32:52That's actually a great song. I'll go with that.
- 1:32:54My favorite Katy Perry song is Teenage Dream and actually
- 1:32:56interestingly enough California Girls and Teenage Dream were Co
- 1:33:00written by upcoming Dulu guest Bonnie McKee.
- 1:33:03Oh, awesome. OK.
- 1:33:04So I'll let her know that you love that song, David.
- 1:33:06And also that I claimed positive for for Katy Perry, so.
- 1:33:10We're going to do another one. What about Cardi B?
- 1:33:13Oh, absolutely Rebuke. No hesitation on that one.
- 1:33:17I think she's the one who like drugged men.
- 1:33:20Oh, wasn't she the one who drugged men when she was a
- 1:33:25exotic dancer? I don't know, I saw a tweet
- 1:33:27about that so. If that's true, I have to rebuke
- 1:33:30her. If it's not true, I apologize.
- 1:33:33It was your tweet. You tweeted that?
- 1:33:34Oh, did I? Good.
- 1:33:36You had tweeted that it felt too intense to bring onto the show,
- 1:33:40but now that we're here, it was your own tweet.
- 1:33:42And it was probably, if I remember, it had to do with
- 1:33:45like, why is anyone listening to her about a presidential pick?
- 1:33:48It was exactly that, yeah. Why would you listen to, first
- 1:33:50of all, why should you listen to any star unless you've like,
- 1:33:53they're just people like you. You know, Bruce Springsteen,
- 1:33:57he's just just a guy. He, he doesn't have any, you
- 1:34:00know, he's a billionaire or close to being a billionaire.
- 1:34:03We say billionaires are out of touch.
- 1:34:04We but we don't yet. We don't say Bruce Springsteen's
- 1:34:07out of touch, but he's just a person.
- 1:34:09He has a right to say what he says.
- 1:34:10But but Cardi B, she, if what's said about her is true and she
- 1:34:16drugged people like I don't, I give people a lot of grace.
- 1:34:19It's hard to overcome. Like, Oh yeah, I was in a mixed
- 1:34:22up position. I thought that was OK.
- 1:34:25Absolutely understandable. What about Elon Musk?
- 1:34:30Oh, I mean, I'm a huge fan of a lot of things that he does.
- 1:34:34I think he's brilliantly smart. But like most people, you can be
- 1:34:38really smart but not be maybe a great dad.
- 1:34:41I don't know him. I'll have to know that he's not
- 1:34:42a great dad, but the the stuff that he did at Doge, absolutely
- 1:34:46fine in my book. I know a lot of people who you
- 1:34:49know, my kids don't like him and the rest you're giving me a look
- 1:34:53like he's definitely a rebuke I'm going to claim.
- 1:34:59So what about if we were claiming or rebuking space?
- 1:35:04Why? But let's go focus on Elon Musk.
- 1:35:07Like he he kind of made electric cars.
- 1:35:10OK, He has. He invented and came up with a
- 1:35:14way to get people and satellites to space so much cheaper than
- 1:35:17anyone else has done. He did the doge stuff at our
- 1:35:22request, he didn't have to do it.
- 1:35:25So let's take in all his accomplishments right now.
- 1:35:29Let's look at the integrity of him as a person.
- 1:35:32What do we feel about that? Yeah.
- 1:35:34So I don't know enough about that to have an opinion.
- 1:35:36But I think like his drama with what I've read about his drama
- 1:35:43with his ex wives or the people that he's had children with,
- 1:35:48it's not how I'd conduct myself. If you're that rich, I wouldn't
- 1:35:50be arguing over money. But I don't, I don't live that
- 1:35:53life. So I don't know.
- 1:35:54Maybe there's stuff behind the scenes that we don't we don't
- 1:35:57know. So I'd say I don't know enough
- 1:36:00about that. I only know like OK, the things
- 1:36:02that he's done or I only look at that objectively, that part
- 1:36:06objectively. That is a very fascinating take.
- 1:36:11That's a nice way of saying you totally disagree, but that's all
- 1:36:13right. It's OK to disagree.
- 1:36:15I totally disagree. So my next one is space.
- 1:36:20Space like the concept of space or like going to outer space or
- 1:36:23just giving a space? What do you mean space?
- 1:36:29SPCE the stock the like there's the space.
- 1:36:33I can't answer that. The way it's phrased.
- 1:36:39Outer space, absolutely great. I think that people that we
- 1:36:44should explore outer space. We have to figure out while
- 1:36:48there are people hungry all over the country, how much do we put
- 1:36:51resources to do that? And there are people who are
- 1:36:54really struggling. So being able to colonize Mars,
- 1:36:58which I don't believe will ever happen, sounds really cool and
- 1:37:02everything. But for somebody who can't get
- 1:37:06to work because their car broke down or can't, who's standing in
- 1:37:09front of a pharmacy counter and telling the pharmacy of like, Oh
- 1:37:12no, I'll come back and pick it up next week when they have no
- 1:37:14intention of picking up their prescription because they can't
- 1:37:16afford it, It's tough. So I'd say yeah, it's a it's a
- 1:37:21good priority to have, but not so sure how high I'd prioritize
- 1:37:25it. I like space.
- 1:37:28All right, I agree. When you look up at the night,
- 1:37:31there's nothing more inspirational.
- 1:37:33Well, yes, OK, All right. Well, David, this has been such
- 1:37:38a fun insight. Oh, I have one more.
- 1:37:40All right, I'm afraid when you find something last.
- 1:37:45OK, we're going to claim a rebuke CVS Pharmacy.
- 1:37:53I'm going to have to rebuke. And.
- 1:37:56I'll explain. So recently I was at the
- 1:38:00pharmacy counter and I saw COVID test.
- 1:38:04COVID test for a single one was more expensive than buying 2 and
- 1:38:15it was like, well wait a second. So you're just trying to get
- 1:38:18people to like it didn't make any sense.
- 1:38:24In addition, like they take at least the one near us, they take
- 1:38:28an hour off or 45 minutes or half hour during lunchtime when
- 1:38:31a lot of people and they just closed the pharmacy, like lunch.
- 1:38:34Sorry, we're closed. That's a lot of people are
- 1:38:36trying to get their prescriptions at lunchtime.
- 1:38:39It's not. And I get it.
- 1:38:40People have to eat lunch. So stagger it.
- 1:38:41Do something like McDonald's doesn't close at lunchtime so
- 1:38:44that everybody there can eat. So yeah, CVS, I'm going to
- 1:38:50rebuke you. Should be better than you are.
- 1:38:52OK that's fair. I don't have an opinion on CVS,
- 1:38:55they were the only pharmacy I was aware of.
- 1:38:58Well, there are lots of them. There's Walgreens there.
- 1:39:00They all kind of run the same the same problem.
- 1:39:03The little scheme, the little pharmacy scheme, because you do
- 1:39:07pharmacy. Well, they what they so CVS and
- 1:39:10all the others, they make money because they want you to come in
- 1:39:13to pick up your prescription because when you come in, you're
- 1:39:15yellow stacky look, M&M's or. Or, oh, licorice.
- 1:39:19No, no one would. I can't imagine.
- 1:39:21I bet you they that I bet you CVS is even smart enough not to
- 1:39:25carry licorice the. Licorice beef goes deep.
- 1:39:29OK, Choose one biovil or licorice.
- 1:39:32But licorice, I mean, let's be, let's be fair about that.
- 1:39:34That's, that's easy. That's an easy one.
- 1:39:37So you do like licorice then? I love it.
- 1:39:40In relative to Bioval, yes. OK, so on the record you do
- 1:39:43enjoy licorice. Actually, Bioval was one of the
- 1:39:44greatest things that that happened to me.
- 1:39:46It was miserable at the time but yeah.
- 1:39:49So I but I still take licorice over Bioval.
- 1:39:52You know, your bio whale situation reminds me of I had A
- 1:39:57at a course I took when I was in university and there was.
- 1:40:03A thing about Bio Veil and like a lawsuit, it was like a big
- 1:40:07thing. It was like a case study.
- 1:40:08It was really interesting. Yeah, well, I if that were true,
- 1:40:12that would be great. But it is, it was a fascinating,
- 1:40:16fascinating episode. Lot to learn from it.
- 1:40:18Absolutely. That was definitely your
- 1:40:21redemption era. The best thing that came from it
- 1:40:24though, is that I didn't identify myself with my job
- 1:40:27anymore. You know what, I need a vice
- 1:40:29Lulu on that because I very much identify myself in my job.
- 1:40:32People need to know that they're worthy of love for who they are,
- 1:40:37not for what they do or whether they're good or bad at it.
- 1:40:41Even me. Not so much you, but most
- 1:40:43people. Other people, other people.
- 1:40:46I mean you too, but not you in particular.
- 1:40:50I think especially me. Yeah, I had to sign some sort of
- 1:40:53release that said that you can edit things and that you're
- 1:40:55going to edit that out. So I want to carve that out of
- 1:40:58the editing process that you're not allowed to edit that out.
- 1:41:01So you already signed the release, I fear.
- 1:41:03And then also too, we're actually going to edit this.
- 1:41:06So it's very licorice crazy. Great.
- 1:41:08That's, that would be my biggest, well, not my biggest
- 1:41:11nightmare, but that would be really unfortunate.
- 1:41:13All of a sudden I become a licorice spokesman from it.
- 1:41:15Absolutely. And they're going to send you a
- 1:41:17bunch. No, don't.
- 1:41:19Well, David, we close out every show with manifesting together.
- 1:41:22The universe is listening. Is there anything you want to
- 1:41:24speak into existence right now with us?
- 1:41:27Well, I said early on, and I know every time I say this, you,
- 1:41:30you kind of go, well, that's a little bit off and you're
- 1:41:32talking too much. I think is your glance at me is
- 1:41:36I believe in praying and I believe in showing up to the
- 1:41:40work. Wait, why did you?
- 1:41:42No, that's not true. I love that.
- 1:41:44I know you're talking about Elon Musk again.
- 1:41:45I was like, yeah, I'm going to do it again.
- 1:41:46No, no, no, no. I love praying.
- 1:41:48I think that's that's so if we're going to be a pray for
- 1:41:52something I I, I would say, and it's not Wall Street beats
- 1:41:57related because I, I go back to that story I told you about the
- 1:41:59priest. Yeah.
- 1:42:00I don't want to be, you know, pray that everyone, you know,
- 1:42:03has money and wins out of it because that's not going to
- 1:42:05happen anyway. So no, what I what I hope to, to
- 1:42:09pray and that that God brings that people have an
- 1:42:13understanding of their of their worth relative, like not tied to
- 1:42:18what they do, not tied to who they love, not tied to, to any
- 1:42:22of that. And that people accept that,
- 1:42:23that we've come so far in maybe the last 10 or 20 years.
- 1:42:27There's so much more to do. So I would hope that, I really
- 1:42:33would hope that that I would wish that into existence and I
- 1:42:36pray for that. And people can take little
- 1:42:38steps. To I am claiming that
- 1:42:40absolutely. And it all starts with you,
- 1:42:42bestie Lulu, and being that positive change.
- 1:42:46Yeah, I'm claiming that too. I think.
- 1:42:48What am I manifesting right now? I'm manifesting that we get to
- 1:42:55spend more time together because you don't live here.
- 1:42:58Awesome. Well, we'll do it.
- 1:43:00Yeah. You have to make it a
- 1:43:01commitment. That's what I meant by the
- 1:43:02planning. Once a year as you plan it.
- 1:43:04OK, we're going to plan it right now.
- 1:43:06When are you free passes event in six months in New York on
- 1:43:11them all the best. You would go.
- 1:43:14Absolutely. They're my partner.
- 1:43:16I love them. So we, yeah, I'm.
- 1:43:17Excited to see what that event, absolutely, I'm going to be
- 1:43:20there. OK, good.
- 1:43:21Let's plan on it. Well, David, we David, we got
- 1:43:24into so much to Lulu today and obviously you were very strongly
- 1:43:29held in your convictions on what you believe and what you don't
- 1:43:31believe. So I'm kind of curious, Lulu, if
- 1:43:34we could do a cute little quick three car tarot reading on you.
- 1:43:37Sure. I mean, I've told you I don't
- 1:43:39believe that, but if it's for fun, why not?
- 1:43:41It's for fun, Lulu Sure. So do you have any questions,
- 1:43:44any concerns, anything you want me to kind of look into and read
- 1:43:47for you or do you just want to pull cards and see what's?
- 1:43:48Up pull cards will hopefully it comes up with like a Lotto
- 1:43:52ticket or something like that. OK, well if it did I wouldn't be
- 1:43:55here. So the first card we have right
- 1:43:58now is the 9 of Pentacles in reverse.
- 1:44:02We also have the seven Pentacles in reverse.
- 1:44:04Very interesting. Pentacles represent money, and
- 1:44:06the last one's the Ace of Pentacles upright.
- 1:44:08So I think what I'm kind of reading here, First things
- 1:44:11first, the seven Pentacles in reverse, it's kind of ask you
- 1:44:13not to work as hard. You're already putting the
- 1:44:15effort in work that you've done. You've already had a career, a
- 1:44:18lifetime of putting in the work and energy, and you've reaped
- 1:44:20the benefits of it. You don't need to invest so
- 1:44:22deeply into it. With that being said, it's also
- 1:44:24really important that you are being really intentional about
- 1:44:27where your money is flowing. This is the 9 of Pentacles.
- 1:44:29This is luxury. We have it in reverse.
- 1:44:31So I think being intentional about how you're spending your
- 1:44:33money, where you're investing, where you're putting your
- 1:44:35stocks, how much you're going to support the Lulu Ryan Liu, and
- 1:44:38also with the Ace of Pentacles upright, this thing an
- 1:44:40opportunity is going to come to you.
- 1:44:41So I think you're going to have something come in that could be
- 1:44:44very exciting for you very soon. You're going to tell us?
- 1:44:46Even more than today. Even more exciting, I mean, I,
- 1:44:49I, I personally don't believe it either, but it could be.
- 1:44:53All right, what it does, I'm going to, I'm going to.
- 1:44:54You'll be the first person they call.
- 1:44:56You have my e-mail. You keep saying that.
- 1:44:58You keep saying whenever I say I'll call you, you're like, you
- 1:45:00have my e-mail. Yeah, like, that's not a phone
- 1:45:03number. And so I'm not going to.
- 1:45:05No one emails someone with news. Well, guess my big news.
- 1:45:07I just won the law. Do you have my phone number?
- 1:45:09I don't so but but what do you have?
- 1:45:13I have your e-mail. Right, so you would e-mail.
- 1:45:16Me, yeah, but so you can't be like, oh, thanks for being a
- 1:45:19guest. I'm not going to give you my
- 1:45:20phone number. Not cool.
- 1:45:21Even if you give me a. Well, we're besties, so you'll
- 1:45:24get my number. All right.
- 1:45:24So then I'll let you know immediately.
- 1:45:26OK, then you will call me. Absolutely.
- 1:45:28OK, I'll, I'll stop. More like more likely I'll text,
- 1:45:30but OK, I mean, I'll be I'll be busy because it'll be really big
- 1:45:34opportunity. It'll be a really big
- 1:45:35opportunity, yeah. You just gave a whole spiel
- 1:45:37about the call just to divert to the tax.
- 1:45:40Yeah, exactly. OK, right, right, right.
- 1:45:43That is what my tarot cards told me that you would do too.
- 1:45:46Awesome all. Right.
- 1:45:46OK, so hopefully works out. OK, David, do you have any
- 1:45:51question Lulu's for me before we end the show?
- 1:45:53So I've been on a lot of like news things.
- 1:45:56I mentioned that earlier a lot of.
- 1:45:57Different. Less prestigious, Yes.
- 1:46:00But no one's ever had teddy bears.
- 1:46:03So what's the deal with the teddy bears?
- 1:46:05So the teddy bears, I wanted a little comfort toy and it
- 1:46:08actually was originally birthed from wanting to give our
- 1:46:13producer Brett a little Dulu teddy bear.
- 1:46:16It's just super cute. He is a miserable, anxious,
- 1:46:20licorice loving person so I figured he could have one and he
- 1:46:23looked really comfy when he had one so I thought why don't my
- 1:46:26guests and I have one for the show too.
- 1:46:28OK, so this isn't one that you took from him, right?
- 1:46:30This is a new one. Brett had the original, OK.
- 1:46:34Yes. Perfect.
- 1:46:34OK, These are the siblings of Brett's.
- 1:46:37OK, awesome. That's a good question.
- 1:46:39What else you got for me? Two years from now.
- 1:46:44Yes. What's your vision for you?
- 1:46:48And hopefully at that point, we would have toured the podcast at
- 1:46:52some point in the next year, 2 years from now, my book for sure
- 1:46:57will be out Delulu of Ryan Lou, Delulu, Too True Lulu, you're
- 1:47:0010. Easy principle.
- 1:47:02It's a long name. We'll, we'll get back to it.
- 1:47:04But that book will be out in two years.
- 1:47:06And we'll just continue to be making amazing things, building
- 1:47:10the world of Delulu, the DCU, the Lulu cinematic universe.
- 1:47:14That's what I'm hoping for. That's what I'm manifesting.
- 1:47:18Awesome, great question. What about you 2 years from now
- 1:47:23you come back for do Lulu All Star season?
- 1:47:26I'll come back for the All Star season.
- 1:47:29I'll have to see how this ticket sales are for the podcast tour.
- 1:47:32If I join, if I'm if I let's see if it sells out, I'm definitely
- 1:47:36there. If it's a little slow I might be
- 1:47:40busy This. Is why we have subscription to
- 1:47:44Wall Street beats on passes, so we can actually get the insights
- 1:47:48if it's going to be a good investment.
- 1:47:49Yeah, that's that's true. So no, two years from now, look,
- 1:47:52I hope that Wall Street beats continues to grow.
- 1:47:55I hope that we have a positive impact on people who who listen.
- 1:47:59I hope that I've spent time the way I've that I hope to
- 1:48:02intentionally with the people that I love and I care about.
- 1:48:05And generally, I hope that I, I don't focus on catastrophizing
- 1:48:10things, but I help focus on, you know, we talked about people who
- 1:48:14complain a lot or who have a problem with something they want
- 1:48:18to say to friends. Oh, this is miserable in the
- 1:48:20world. I hope I always work toward
- 1:48:23something of finding a solution or at least supporting
- 1:48:25solutions. I feel like even throughout this
- 1:48:28entire show, you have done so much of reassurance and offering
- 1:48:32light and just insight. So you know, me and my bestie
