- 0:00But about Bound Bangor management Fantasy hockey
- 0:03podcast. Boo, woo and only two wheels
- 0:09today. Because we are.
- 0:11We have the ghost of Jakey with us as we speak.
- 0:15Yeah, there you go. Well, that was actually a pretty
- 0:18good ghost Woo. Yeah, exactly.
- 0:20I'm. Impressed but welcoming
- 0:22everybody to Bangor management the fantasy hockey podcast on
- 0:26today is week 19 news updates and the famous would you
- 0:32rathers. I know, I know listen, I know
- 0:33trade behind us in most leagues. But would you rather are still
- 0:37relevant because I went a little waiver wire today.
- 0:40Little, little would you rather on the waivers, you know.
- 0:44Like there's no point in the hockey season where you don't
- 0:47have to make a choice between two players.
- 0:49Whether it's by trade or it's by waiver wires, so would you.
- 0:52Rathers are always relevant and Kevin's always keeping it fresh
- 0:55and spicy for us. And we're, we're literally
- 0:58recording this Tuesday evening and it's going up Wednesday
- 1:01morning. So literally the closest return
- 1:03is possible. I mean, turn around, not return,
- 1:08but this is this is the last news episode before the trade
- 1:13deadline in the NHL, which is this Friday, which is crazy.
- 1:16I feel like we're getting so many news to new tidbits every
- 1:18day. Yeah, this person's on the move.
- 1:20These are the teams that are interested, blah blah blah.
- 1:22Yeah, so many rumors, but I think I think this is kind of a
- 1:26calm before the storm episode where, you know, not not much
- 1:29has happened just yet in terms of trades.
- 1:32We're hearing like you said, a lot of rumors circling, but
- 1:35we're not going to report on it until until it.
- 1:37I mean, our next news episode is going to be post deadline and
- 1:40that's what we're gonna have a lot, a lot of fun stuff to talk
- 1:43about. But until then, we've got some
- 1:45we've got some tidy business to to talk about.
- 1:48Awesome. Maybe maybe a little trade
- 1:50relevant. Would you rather is in the later
- 1:52in the episode. So stay tuned.
- 1:54Make sure you stay until the end.
- 1:55I like. It because I think some are
- 1:57definitely worth talking about right now in case they do happen
- 2:01but yeah a lot of injury talk to we're gonna get to today.

- 2:26start. Literally talking trades,
- 2:28talking start sits, all that good stuff every day.
- 2:31So already in there. Take a look.
- 2:33And on the YouTube, of course, if you're watching your
- 2:35beautiful faces as we speak, make sure you hit that subscribe
- 2:37button. But yeah, without further ado,
- 2:40let's get into it because we got some big news.
- 2:43Josh's psyched about this one. Alright, let's dive right in
- 2:47because I am so excited about this.
- 2:49This is in all uppercase. I literally, I don't know one of
- 2:55the best things that happened to me.
- 2:56I'm rejoicing super. Hard choice, Jim.
- 2:59Hiller is gone. Our prayers have been answered.
- 3:02DJ Smith, interim head coach for the rest of the season.
- 3:05Let's ignore the fact that DJ Smith is doesn't have the best
- 3:07reputation and Hillary is gone. I don't care.
- 3:09You can have a talking monkey behind the bench and it would
- 3:12be, we'd be better off. I'm so excited as a Kemper
- 3:14owner, as a brand Clark owner. I mean, that's got to be the top
- 3:17two guys who Jim Hiller was a terrorist on.
- 3:19So I'm very, very excited. Look, we still have to what was
- 3:25it, Kylies mix it up ever since we got called out for.
- 3:27Is it temporary? Temporary expectations.
- 3:29So you have a temporary. Temporary.
- 3:30Yes. You're not tampering with them,
- 3:32You're tempering them. Exactly.
- 3:33Tempered steel. Got it.
- 3:34OK. Yeah.
- 3:34Sorry. I'm just.
- 3:35I'm jacked up right now. I'm so excited about this.
- 3:37I was literally the night before this happened, I was losing my
- 3:42mind about how much I hated Jim Hiller.
- 3:45Like everybody, this could also saw.
- 3:47Yes, I losing because first I was, I was losing my mind to you
- 3:50guys in our group chat and then I was like, you know what?
- 3:53If people are in the Discord, they deserve to see the real,
- 3:56the yeah, they, they, they deserve to see the crash
- 3:58outlook. If you, you open, you know, you
- 4:00open your heart and let everyone see your Matthew Olivier crash
- 4:03outs. So I, I will do the same and
- 4:07bear my heart and soul in the discord.
- 4:08And so I absolutely went off on how much I hate Jim Hiller.
- 4:11And I guess, you know, LA management is in the Discord and
- 4:15they saw that and they were just like, I didn't realize that,
- 4:18that Josh felt this way. And so they got rid of him.
- 4:20But anyways, let's talk about implications.
- 4:23First of all, it could be the implication.
- 4:25Exactly. It could only be positive.
- 4:27Look, it doesn't mean all of a sudden ever you think
- 4:29everything's perfect, but it can only be a positive because
- 4:32Hillary, it was an awful coach. He was just doing like terrible
- 4:37deployment didn't the lines didn't make sense.
- 4:39It this all stems back really like and this is not just me.
- 4:42This is me like, like I have my hatred strong, but like, this is
- 4:45me reading all sorts of LA Kings, like fans like and news
- 4:48and whatever. And like everyone hated him ever
- 4:50since he lost the series to Edmonton in the playoffs last
- 4:54year with that ridiculous goalie interference call challenge.
- 4:58I don't know if you remember that that kind of turns the
- 5:00entire tide of the series, right?
- 5:02And it was like the most obvious, like essentially like
- 5:04they tied it up late after coming back from like three
- 5:06goals. Hiller decides to challenge when
- 5:08it was obviously a good goal. Then they so Edmonton goes on
- 5:11the power play and then scores again and then they win the
- 5:13game. And that just turned the whole
- 5:14series. So once hated Hillary ever
- 5:15since. And yeah, so in terms of
- 5:18specific players, I mean Kemper, right?
- 5:21Like I feel like if. The team starts winning.
- 5:23Again, that's it's. Good for the goalies in general,
- 5:25right? That's kind of what you're going
- 5:26with here. So like, look, I'm not like he's
- 5:29been so bad, right? So it could only go up and at
- 5:32least we have some sort of catalyst to kind of hope that a
- 5:34change is coming. Then there's for Clark.
- 5:38I mean, he had already kind of forced Tiller's hand to put him
- 5:40on power play one because the power play was so bad without
- 5:43him and then it became like OK with him.
- 5:45So but now like, I think that spot is even more secured.
- 5:48I think we're seeing a more consolidated power play 1.
- 5:51I mean, that's also a bit due to injuries and stuff, but I think
- 5:55that is great. And I'm curious to see if Ella
- 5:58is going to keep adding right with the Panarin trade was like,
- 6:01we're big buyers, but then they kept being terrible.
- 6:03But now they fired their coach and they're still like, they're
- 6:06still in the race for the playoffs, like they could still
- 6:08make it if they stop sucking. So I'm very curious to see.
- 6:11I mean, yeah, they give yeah. But I'm curious to see if they
- 6:14if they make another move to to add and and how they could
- 6:17improve after this coaching change.
- 6:19I think they want another centre and I think they want line.
- 6:22I think that's, I think the the line rumors are like you've
- 6:24mentioned multiple times on the podcast already, I think those
- 6:26are very strong. I think Habs might retain 50%,
- 6:31but like his contract expires at the end of the year, so they
- 6:32don't really care. Listen, they added Panera, they
- 6:36lost Fiala. So it kind of feels like a a
- 6:38slight positive because Panera is better than Fiala, but it's
- 6:41still you wanted both the big boost.
- 6:44So they're kind of in a pickle and the results haven't been
- 6:46there. It's so ironic that they they
- 6:48fired they fired the coach literally after a shutout.
- 6:51Yeah, I know, but. It was like, OK, from the backup
- 6:54goalie nonetheless. I know.
- 6:56But Daisy, yeah. So I think just positives to
- 6:59come from this. Is it a little too late?
- 7:01That's the only worry in my mind.
- 7:03Like they don't believe that themselves there are competing
- 7:06team. So they just like, you know, not
- 7:10I don't say punt this season because it's Kopitar is like
- 7:13final fare. Well, they're actually like,
- 7:14alright, let's give up like. Yeah, and they're so close.
- 7:17They're like 3 points out, you know, so.
- 7:19But they kept mortgage the whole future for this year when
- 7:22they're already not like a solidified team, right?
- 7:24So I can't imagine they're making a big move.
- 7:27So I'm curious to see who they add besides lining.
- 7:30If that actually does get confirmed.
- 7:32There's lining enough to move the needle.
- 7:34I don't think so. Maybe we just see some fun games
- 7:36at the end of the season where like some power play goals and
- 7:38stuff. But besides that, I I don't I
- 7:40don't see them moving a little too much unless let's DJ Smith
- 7:44can really like turn the tide of this team and get everything
- 7:47settled, But I just think it's a little too late.
- 7:50So. I will say I think that first of
- 7:53all, there's the general kind of new coach bump.
- 7:54So we'll hope to see that. But that's kind of like a vague,
- 7:57you know, idea that, you know, there's like we've seen it
- 8:00happen, but it might also just be like anecdotal evidence.
- 8:04I do think like Smith has the reputation of being really good
- 8:08for developing young players. So I really do think Brandon
- 8:11Clark is the biggest beneficiary of this.
- 8:14I think that he's he's 62% owned right now.
- 8:17So he's probably owned in most leagues, but if he's not owned
- 8:19in your league, I think this is serious, serious pick up for
- 8:22rest of season. So I would definitely recommend
- 8:24that. And then yeah, with Kemper,
- 8:26we'll see how the how the team does.
- 8:27I do think you mentioned that they wanted to centre and line,
- 8:30but I think they're also looking at a defenseman.
- 8:32So not a specific one. I think they're looking at
- 8:33adding a defenseman. And if they can add a defenseman
- 8:36who's actually good at defence, again, that could help, that
- 8:38could help them win games, could help the goalie.
- 8:40So, so it'll be interesting to see.
- 8:42But you know, end of the day, Jim Hiller is gone.
- 8:44I'm happy and yeah, we all rejoice.
- 8:48I mean, that's a perfect segue because talking about
- 8:50defenseman, we just got a defenseman on the move to the
- 8:53Oilers. Massive, massive deal.
- 8:56So. Huge move.
- 8:57Let's talk about it. Connor Murphy from Chicago to
- 9:01Edmonton, 50% retained a second round pick going the other way.
- 9:06I mean this feels like the not this is the least fantasy
- 9:09relevant trade. That's this is the last piece
- 9:11they needed to win the cup so. It's over.
- 9:13Just Jerry will now finally be a good goalie.
- 9:17You know, Engram starting like his third game in a row, like
- 9:20tonight. So like, yeah, Jerry so bad.
- 9:23But yeah, we don't have to rehash that.
- 9:25But yeah, so for this very not fantasy relevant, Connor
- 9:27Murphy's had relevance as a streamer in the past for hits
- 9:30and blocks. I looked at his averages this
- 9:31year. They haven't been there.
- 9:33Is one of the minutes this year. That's why they averaged in
- 9:35lower. Like he's been kind of like a
- 9:36third pairing guy. Yeah, and I kind of expect the
- 9:38same in Edmonton. He could be a top four guy in
- 9:42Edmonton and if he is, I can see him having like some like two
- 9:45hit, two block type of coverage. I just think this this shores up
- 9:49there. Their penalty case saw somebody
- 9:51say, you know, Connor Murphy was on the best PK in the league,
- 9:55which was the Chicago Blackhawks power penalty kill.
- 9:58Which Sir, I didn't not realize they had the power penalty
- 10:01penalty kill. But yeah, I mean, maybe that's
- 10:04just kind of a special teams move to help them there because
- 10:07they know they're gonna take a lot of penalties.
- 10:08I guess. I don't know.
- 10:09But I mean, if you get better on defence, get better on defence,
- 10:12you gotta help your goalies out where you can.
- 10:14That's it. I feel like a lot of these types
- 10:16of moves are like so not flashy and most like more casual fans
- 10:20will kind of just blow them over.
- 10:21And in terms of fantasy, you kind of just blow it over.
- 10:23But it's the kind of move you make to kind of gear up for
- 10:25playoffs. Like you said, show up, you
- 10:26know, like look at a certain point every time you have a
- 10:30goalie, like their goal has been a whole story for like 5 years,
- 10:34right? Like how awful their goalies are
- 10:35at a certain point, maybe you're like take a look at the defence,
- 10:38right? Like what are the odds that
- 10:39every single goal you you get in trade for whatever is terrible?
- 10:42I mean, look at Stuart Skinner on Pittsburgh, right?
- 10:44He's killing it. So, so maybe it's a defensive
- 10:47issue. So adding a, you know, kind of
- 10:48like quiet solid like by like 4 or 5D like this to your team
- 10:52like it could help. So.
- 10:54So we'll see, but not the most nasty relevant.
- 10:56I'll say though, if this, if this bumps down Darnell nurse
- 11:01minutes at all, if you have Darnell nurse has like a banger
- 11:04stud and he's ends up playing like line 3, which I'm not
- 11:07saying is going to happen, but I'm saying it's in the range of
- 11:09outcomes. If it's like, you know,
- 11:10Bouchard, Ecomb, Wallman, Murphy and a nurse and whoever else
- 11:15they decide to put there like that's a hit on nurses value in
- 11:19terms of like being a, a banger cause you had them for the he
- 11:23was the prototypical like two shots, two hits, two blocks type
- 11:26of guy. He's not getting you many points
- 11:27or anything else. But that's still very valuable
- 11:29in bangers leagues. If he's not even gonna get you
- 11:32the minutes, then he's probably not hitting those thresholds.
- 11:35Yeah, absolutely. That's a really good point.
- 11:37All right, another massive trade.
- 11:39Michael McCarron was traded from the Nashville Predators to
- 11:42Minnesota for a second round pick.
- 11:45That seems to be the the classic trade ship these days is you
- 11:48just toss a second round pick their way and they're like,
- 11:50we'll send you a, we'll send you our bottom six guy, you know,
- 11:53But I really like McCarron. Actually, I considered picking
- 11:55him up at times this year because he's a pure C.
- 11:58That's the downside. But he was giving you solid like
- 12:01Pimm's faceoff wins, hits, blocks some shots.
- 12:05So like, he was giving good category coverage.
- 12:07Yeah, exactly. Um, so we'll see what I mean.
- 12:10Minnesota just does not have a good playoff schedule.
- 12:12And obviously this is like the Super like deep, deepest of
- 12:16deep. Like you need like a a centre
- 12:18who can hit some of those cats. So that's not the most fancy
- 12:20relevant, but you had mentioned before, like when we won this
- 12:24trade got broken like super recently.
- 12:26Honestly, this happened like an hour ago.
- 12:28Yeah, exactly. This is a good indicator.
- 12:30We know Minnesota was looking for a centre pretty hard.
- 12:33They were in the rumors with Trocheck.
- 12:35They were in the rumors with Thomas maybe pretty much every
- 12:39set, like, you know, this is a very centre heavy deadline, it
- 12:41feels like and there's there's a lot of teams that need them.
- 12:43So Minnesota is in the thick of it.
- 12:45Does this mean that they're no longer in the hunt for these
- 12:49other centres? Obviously it's a completely
- 12:50different caliber of player, but do you think they're like
- 12:52calling it like this is our centre that we acquired at the
- 12:55deadline and and we're kind of done?
- 12:58I mean, I think the main centres that were on the on like the
- 13:01trade block are Vincent Trocheck.
- 13:03I think he's the main commodity. Think Robert Thomas.
- 13:05I think Nazim Kadri, from what I heard, Vincent Trocheck doesn't
- 13:09want to go West. Yeah.
- 13:10So I think we narrowed it down to probably Carolina, probably
- 13:13Detroit as we're recording this. None of those things have
- 13:15happened. We're probably gonna see those
- 13:17happen on Friday, most likely, yeah.
- 13:19So he's out of the question now. Robert Thomas.
- 13:21It was like a I'd be so shocked if he gets traded to like today.
- 13:26It was like. Yeah, he's probably going to
- 13:28Buffalo. Yeah.
- 13:29So I think Minnesota just realized that the landscape just
- 13:33didn't suit them and I don't think they wanna Kadri.
- 13:36So for them this is kind of like a rental shorts under centre.
- 13:39And to me, this is a huge win for Erickson, Eck and Hartman
- 13:42because I think that basically tells you that rest of season
- 13:45those two guys are going to be the top two seasons of the team.
- 13:47Right now I think Hartman is playing with Kaprizov.
- 13:49Andrew likes the next playing line 2 with body.
- 13:51So as of right now, like I think both have value.
- 13:54Whoever's on power play 1 is going to have like the more
- 13:56value. But now you don't have to be
- 13:59afraid of, you know, your life and getting bumped off and
- 14:02losing. Was all this trade value I think
- 14:04or fantasy value? Yeah, I think that's all the
- 14:07really good points. And I think this is like it's an
- 14:10interesting way to look at like such a minor trade, right?
- 14:14Like the same thing you did, like to it to a lesser extent
- 14:16with like the Murphy one and how that could affect the Darnell
- 14:18nurse. You know, like there's kind of
- 14:19like upstream effects to to a lot of this stuff.
- 14:22So it's just interesting to look at, you know, you see a lot of
- 14:24these kind of inconsequential traits and you kind of try and
- 14:28get an idea of what it means for the future, even though like all
- 14:32this is going to be answered in three days, you know.
- 14:33But if you have, if you can have some ideas three days in
- 14:35advance, then you could, you know, maybe take advantage in
- 14:38some way. So it's definitely interesting,
- 14:40but that's all we've got trades for now.
- 14:42In the next like 2 days it's gonna get wild and I'm very
- 14:46excited and our next episode will have a lot more for you.
- 14:49But until then, let's move into the injuries portion of this
- 14:52episode. I.
- 14:53Will say this is another chance to plug the discord like we've
- 14:57been talking about the trades and all the rumors like as soon
- 14:59as they're happening. So if not already in there,
- 15:01please join. You won't regret it.
- 15:04I think now we're getting to you know, playoff crunch time.
- 15:06So now is the most important to be on top of your game.
- 15:09Do you do you want to just a little tidbit on the Robert
- 15:12before we get into all the injuries?
- 15:14So I think, yeah, I think it's definitely worth talking about
- 15:15because he's the type of centre that could be available in some
- 15:18leagues on waivers, like. Yeah, I'm surprised how many
- 15:22people in the Discord are asking if they should pick him up
- 15:24because early he's been owned all year.
- 15:26But I didn't realize that, you know, he's available in leagues.
- 15:28But pretty much pretty much it emerged today that a lot a lot
- 15:33of rumors to the point where I'm like, it feels kind of like a
- 15:35done deal of Robert Thomas going to Buffalo.
- 15:38And honestly, like it makes a lot of sense.
- 15:40They've got a lot of assets that they can give up and that won't
- 15:44necessarily hurt them too much. So I'm seeing like centred
- 15:48around like Owen power, Jack Quinn, first round picks like
- 15:50that. And in both direct, like in one,
- 15:54like some people might think like, wow, that seems like a
- 15:56huge hall for Saint Louis, you know?
- 15:57But at the same time, you have to remember like Robert Thomas
- 16:00is a 26 year old 1C on an amazing contract.
- 16:03So those, you know, you got to pay up for those.
- 16:06So look, it seems like it's a fit on both sides.
- 16:08I think it's just a matter of time and you want to discuss the
- 16:11implications of it. First of all, if Thomas is
- 16:13available in your league, just make him an interesting pickup.
- 16:16I think absolutely I. Think he's a must pick up before
- 16:18the trade deadline because I don't wanna risk missing out on
- 16:20him with a bunch of potential of him going to Buffalo.
- 16:23I'd be proactive in trying to make a pick up.
- 16:25And if it doesn't work, it doesn't get treated, it doesn't
- 16:27work out. And you know, you can take that
- 16:29L, but I think just the upside is so, so massive that I would
- 16:32take a swing. Yeah, without Buffalo is playing
- 16:34this year. Like they're serious contender,
- 16:36you know, they just don't have like the name value of like some
- 16:38of these other teams. But like, imagine if it was like
- 16:40Edmonton or Pittsburgh. I mean, obviously Edmonton or
- 16:43Colorado or whatever, you know, yeah, exactly.
- 16:46Like that's where Buffalo Buffalo is ahead of like, you
- 16:49know, half those teams, like are most of those teams at this
- 16:51point in the in the season? So it might not be like the
- 16:54biggest name in your head, but like, look, Robert Thomas, if
- 16:56you get traded there, there's a solid chance he's playing with
- 16:59Tage Thompson online one and Alex Tuck or done or whoever
- 17:02they throw in as the as the third guy on that line.
- 17:04But like Tyson is having an unreal season.
- 17:07Robert Thomas, other than this year has been an over point per
- 17:10game player. Like yes, he doesn't do much in
- 17:12terms of peripherals other than face off wins, but like it's not
- 17:15easy to pick up a guy who's gonna be over game.
- 17:17And Buffalo has a great playoff schedule.
- 17:18Week 21 to 23. They've got a 433.
- 17:21But that middle week they have, they're one of only two teams
- 17:24that don't play on the Tuesday. So that's essentially kind of
- 17:27like having a four-game week on on that week.
- 17:28So it's a huge pickup. Like you said, this is the type
- 17:31of thing where I like doing a preemptive pickup because the
- 17:34upside is just so high. Duh.
- 17:36So if he's available in your league, sincerely take a look
- 17:39and if you can cut your worst player to pick up Robert Thomas
- 17:42and you'll have your answer by Friday whether it's happening or
- 17:44not. So you pick him up on a
- 17:45Wednesday, you have to hold him for two days until Friday.
- 17:48I think it's well worth it. So definitely worth a look.
- 17:51And I think the only implication that's worth noting in terms of
- 17:54a negative would be whoever gets bumped off that power play one
- 17:56because we know Robert Thomas is going to be there, right.
- 17:58So I mean Josh and I discussed it a little bit before we
- 18:00started recording, but it's going to be either like Josh
- 18:02Norris, Josh done or Jason Zucker.
- 18:05Things sucker is pretty safe with him being the net front
- 18:07guy. So it'll probably be like Morris
- 18:08or Dome thing. The more we discuss it, the more
- 18:11I was like probably N chips to spot just because of how we use
- 18:14like a trigger man on the power play and it's good for a power
- 18:16play goal. But I wouldn't be shocked if
- 18:18he's gonna gets bumped off of him being like, you know, just
- 18:21the centre for centre swap there.
- 18:23Yeah, I honestly like, I think it could be any of the three
- 18:26like equally, and it's definitely going to be 1.
- 18:28They're not going to trade for Thomas and not put him on power
- 18:30play 1. So it's definitely one of those
- 18:323. And I do think whichever 1 gets
- 18:34bumped off is an immediate drop. So yeah, I guess we'll we'll
- 18:37have to wait and see on that one.
- 18:39We'll have to wait and see. But now time to get into this is
- 18:41some some big boy news. I mean, we we foreshadowed this
- 18:44on the podcast. I'm surprised it happened this
- 18:46early, but given how the season is going and how the games are
- 18:49going, like not shocking. It was just the timing was a
- 18:53little off. But JT Miller on IR most likely
- 18:58for the rest of the season, like we talked about him being one of
- 19:00the candidates for being shut down.
- 19:02It was like, hey, it was Adam Fox.
- 19:04The guys were like battling injuries the whole year.
- 19:06Now finally happens, they put him on IR, they said it's a new
- 19:08injury, not what he was dealing with the rest of the year.
- 19:11Do I buy that? I'm not sure.
- 19:12I think it's just like an excuse to be able to be put him on IR
- 19:15and be ambiguous with what's happening.
- 19:16But how do we? How do we feel and the
- 19:19ramifications here? Um, first of all, in terms of
- 19:21who would replace one power play 1, I think it would be will
- 19:24Cooley. I mean, he was already on power
- 19:25play one at many times during the year.
- 19:27And I mean, it's gonna be a mess, right.
- 19:29Trucks also on his way out. No, So it's gonna be Fox,
- 19:32Savannah, Chad and then last year Cooley, Cooley and Piper.
- 19:37Oh yeah, So it's no longer a power play.
- 19:40I'm super excited to be a part of like a guy like Cooley is
- 19:44great because he's just a bangers guy and he probably went
- 19:46upside is obviously solid, but like, yeah, exactly.
- 19:49So it's obviously better to be on powerful one, but I'm it's
- 19:52not like one that I'm like, Oh my God, I have to get a piece of
- 19:54that. But in terms of Miller himself,
- 19:56just to make it clear, there haven't been official route.
- 20:00You know, no one officially said he's out for the season.
- 20:02This Is Us kind of speculating because it is that kind of like
- 20:06perfect storm of like he's been dealing with injuries all year.
- 20:09The team is doing awful. He's doing every after every
- 20:11game. He's having these press
- 20:12conferences. That make them look
- 20:14embarrassing. That are just embarrassing and
- 20:16so he's clearly is dealing with something.
- 20:18He went straight to IR and they have nothing to play for.
- 20:21If anything, they'd rather be losing tanking, so this is one
- 20:23of those situations where it makes a lot of sense for him to
- 20:25be shut down for the season. So that's why we're saying we're
- 20:28kind of viewing it as that. But he can be back as soon as a
- 20:31week from now, so we'll see how it plays out, but I wouldn't be
- 20:34surprised. I was talking about this with a
- 20:37waffle Stomper in the discord, which shot out waffle Stomper,
- 20:39but he said he's basically a long time New York Rangers fan
- 20:42and like he likes JT, but it kind of feels like, you know, he
- 20:45came in for a year. They already made him captain
- 20:47when there's been guys are like longer tenure there, the
- 20:49Trocheck, the Savannah Jazz, Adam Foxes, maybe even the
- 20:52Chester. So you kind of put the captain
- 20:54armband on him. Maybe not everybody agrees with
- 20:56the decision. Then you know, you have to have
- 20:58the all nice results to back up your play.
- 20:59Like is he going to be able? Is he to be the guy to put, you
- 21:03know, because of Banjara and hype him up or whatever when
- 21:05he's not even performing on the ice and he hasn't he's just got
- 21:08there type of thing. So and we knew it was a
- 21:11controversial decision already, but now he's not even going to
- 21:15be on the ice. It just kind of feels like a
- 21:16whole mess with this Rangers organization and.
- 21:19Brutal year to to pick JT Miller as my first round pick.
- 21:22It's. Actually crazy.
- 21:23That's Josh. You.
- 21:24You've been blessed with so many trees this year.
- 21:26And I don't know how it happened, but somebody offered
- 21:29Josh Connor McDavid for his JT Miller and Tage Thompson.
- 21:33And like, was it week two or three?
- 21:35It was it really early on, yeah. And and listen, in our league JT
- 21:39Miller is usually like a first round pick because we play in a
- 21:42full bangers category leagues with like face off wins, Pimms
- 21:46hits, shots, shorties which JT excels at.
- 21:49Plus, the Rangers had the best playoff schedule going into the
- 21:51season, so it made him like an even better first round.
- 21:53Pick him. Yeah, we've seen him hit like
- 21:58100 points in the past or close to like it's he had a lot of
- 22:01upside going into this season. And so the other guy, he was
- 22:05buying low selling McDavid after a few weeks, then low and
- 22:07behold, probably derailed this whole entire season.
- 22:10I don't know, teach has been unreal.
- 22:12So like. I still rather have McDavid.
- 22:14I mean, yeah, for sure. But it's like, I don't know if
- 22:17it's a season ending move, but it's definitely definitely,
- 22:19especially with if JT is out for the season, then I'm definitely
- 22:22feeling pretty. Good about self-imposed huge
- 22:24obstacle. Yeah, that's.
- 22:25Fair yeah, I'm I'm pretty I'm happy I got to get out of JT and
- 22:29my my consolation prizes McDavid so definitely and yeah and I
- 22:34mean pretty much everything said he's out for the season probably
- 22:38and and this Rangers team is kind of just imploding.
- 22:41I will say we were we were kind of high on the Rangers going
- 22:43into the season. I feel like everything that
- 22:45could go wrong went wrong. We were also like we look at
- 22:48playoff schedule in advance, right so that definitely
- 22:50influenced me taking JT my first round.
- 22:52Kevin picked Canaan in the second round he picked Trocheck
- 22:54in the third round look, both those guys are not going to be
- 22:56on the Rangers, but it's next week.
- 22:58You know, like, it's it's tough because like, I still stand by
- 23:01looking at playoff schedule way in advance, but this is just
- 23:03kind of shows that, you know, a season's a long time and a lot
- 23:07to happen, right? No one, even no one thought the
- 23:09Rangers would be selling all these pieces going into the
- 23:12season. They thought they'd be a
- 23:13contender. So, so just something to to note
- 23:16for future years is that you know, you always got to be able
- 23:18to like improvise, adapt and overcome.
- 23:22You gotta always gotta adjust. I will.
- 23:24I will say though, we talked a little Cooley getting the
- 23:26biggest bump out of this JT Miller just because he's the one
- 23:29that probably slots in that power play 1 and that's just
- 23:31call button is in his deployment.
- 23:33But I really do like what I'm seeing from Gabe Perot like end
- 23:36of season. I feel like there's no reason
- 23:37why you're not going to like let the kid run and see what he can
- 23:40do. And if he's getting top 6
- 23:42minutes and potentially power play 1.
- 23:44I think he can be like a fantasy darling.
- 23:45If you're like in a deeply like a 14 team league.
- 23:48I feel like he should probably be owned, but I mean him and
- 23:52this next guy talk about that's replacing Mark Stone.
- 23:55Let's talk about that Mark Stone day-to-day.
- 23:58But it's like a true day-to-day. Is it is it really we're ready?
- 24:00We're trade deadline. I did not see the injury.
- 24:03OK, it's literally like, OK, but when I when I was younger, I
- 24:08would get nosebleeds a lot, OK. And my friends got to one of my
- 24:12friends make a joke that like they'd accident, like they'd
- 24:15accidentally like step on my shoe and my nose would start
- 24:18bleeding, you know, or like someone would like the wind
- 24:20would blow in my direction and my nose started bleeding.
- 24:23That's Mark Stone with injuries. Like if you watch this play,
- 24:25he's like Ski doesn't even have the puck.
- 24:27He's like skating by and like Letang kind of like taps him on
- 24:31the arm like literally the most nothing play in the world.
- 24:34And he's just like goes like, Oh my God.
- 24:37And so it's like he's like hunched over one of the benches,
- 24:39like leaves, leaves the game and just doesn't come back.
- 24:41And it's just like nothing happened.
- 24:43He just, you know, people are like he clearly maybe aggravated
- 24:47something at the Olympics. And this was like reactivating
- 24:49it with the tiniest little like hit or whatever.
- 24:51But like this reason we call him Mark Glass, right?
- 24:54So I wouldn't be surprised if this is a if this.
- 24:58Last year and then they add somebody to.
- 25:00The line 3 days today, he didn't get the memo that that rule has
- 25:03been changed so. Why did you put your LIR?
- 25:08Exactly. He's like, I got injured at my
- 25:10regular time of year, so you know, let's do it.
- 25:12But but yeah, I know. So like, I feel like this is
- 25:16this is gonna this could be one of those like kind of like
- 25:18lingering day to days that last for a bit.
- 25:21I'm not ready to go as far to say that he's gonna last until
- 25:24like fantasy playoffs and all that.
- 25:25But at the end of the day, Vegas is pretty comfortable in the
- 25:27playoff spot. So this is like the opposite end
- 25:30of the JT Miller, right? This is like maybe he gets shut
- 25:32down for the rest of regular season because they don't need
- 25:34him in this regular season. They just want him ready for
- 25:36playoffs. So that I mean, that happened to
- 25:39me last year when I had dry sidle, right?
- 25:41This happens to. His goal, literally.
- 25:43And then they were like, alright, well, just you.
- 25:44Know that's it. This is literally the two sides
- 25:46of the coin. It's like having a player on a
- 25:48team that's so bad that they'll shut them down for the season or
- 25:50having on the player on a team like so good that they'll shut
- 25:54them down for the season to come back for playoffs.
- 25:56So I'd definitely be wary of this as a Mark Stone owner.
- 26:00I mean, most trade deadlines are over, so I don't know if there's
- 26:02much you can do about it just to hold and hope he comes back.
- 26:05But his power play 1 replacement should be Brayden Bowman.
- 26:08And we saw this earlier in the year when when Mark Stone was
- 26:10injured earlier because he's always injured, we saw Brayden
- 26:13Bowman come in and actually be pretty solid on that Line one
- 26:16power play 1. So I think line one power play,
- 26:18one on Vegas, hard to get better deployment that Bowman.
- 26:21I think he's like a real prospect.
- 26:23I hadn't really heard of him before he got called up
- 26:25originally, but I picked him up during that run and then mark
- 26:27some magically came back like 2 days later.
- 26:29But anyways, I'm over it. But yeah, so I think, I think
- 26:33Bowman has some sneaky potential for sure.
- 26:36I mean, I had picked him up earlier this season like a 20
- 26:38man league that like has nobody on waivers besides 0% owned
- 26:41guys. And he was like very valuable
- 26:43for a while. Like he was getting, you know,
- 26:44top 6 deployment with power play one basically like as much as
- 26:48your talent can take you, you will go.
- 26:50And I think this is a similar situation now that Mark Stone is
- 26:52out. Like I'd be seriously
- 26:53considering streaming woman, even though like his roster
- 26:56percentage is still gonna be low, he might be able to
- 26:58produce, you know, better than the name value, you know, so
- 27:00I'll keep my eye on it. But I am I I do.
- 27:03Maybe this is just the optimist in me, but I do really think
- 27:06this is gonna be like a true day-to-day for Mark Stone.
- 27:07Like I think he'll miss like a two to four games and nothing
- 27:12more than that. So it's not a long term
- 27:14solution. But if you need to stream a
- 27:16couple a couple games to flip the top of your match up with
- 27:19some power play exposure, I think you can do worse in the
- 27:22Vegas power play. Yeah, I like, I like I said,
- 27:25like wouldn't pick up Bowman expecting him to be like a
- 27:27season long solution. Yeah, but if you need the stream
- 27:30and then with the you know, you hope you hold them for a couple
- 27:33days and if during those days you hear that Mark stones out
- 27:35for a longer period of time, then you could hold on to him.
- 27:36So you got that. You always got that kind of like
- 27:38little upside. The upside?
- 27:39Yeah, alright. Roope Hintz of the Dallas Stars
- 27:43is day-to-day. It's just an illness, but he was
- 27:45placed on IR, so I thought it was worth mentioning.
- 27:47Jamie Benn replaced one power play one.
- 27:49I was thinking about picking up Ben like last week, but I was
- 27:51like, oh, Rupee is gonna be back in like a day, so there's no
- 27:53point. I still kind of feel that way,
- 27:55like I'm not going to pick up just because it's an illness.
- 27:57If it was like anything else like upper body, lower body,
- 27:59whatever, like I would be like more inclined to stream, but I
- 28:04kind of feel like it's there's not much here.
- 28:05It's three games though in a row that he's messing with illness,
- 28:08so it must be like a pretty severe illness to keep him out
- 28:11this long. I don't know if they're lying
- 28:12about anything, but he hasn't played in the Olympics so
- 28:14definitely something to monitor. That as retro Olympic Village,
- 28:19yeah. Yeah, I don't know what he was
- 28:20doing there, but I was gonna make a joke, but I probably.
- 28:24Won't I was about to make a. Joke.
- 28:26But I was like that. Probably can't go on here.
- 28:29But either way, it's retroactive so to February 25th, I believe.
- 28:34So I think basically activate him whenever he's healthy.
- 28:36And what they've LED us to believe is that it's not
- 28:39serious. So maybe Wednesday morning you
- 28:41find out that like he missed the back-to-back on Monday, Tuesday,
- 28:44but maybe he ends up playing later this week.
- 28:47I think he'll be good to go for the weekend games.
- 28:49That's my take on it. And I will say Jamie Benn, like
- 28:52he's serviceable. He's never exciting to me.
- 28:55I think it's just you see him produce, but then you look at
- 28:57his minutes and they're like 12 minutes, 13 minutes.
- 28:59I'm just like, it's just doesn't do it for me.
- 29:01That's why I like I, I was so close to, I mean not so close
- 29:03picking him up, but I was looking like very much because
- 29:06if you remember, like right before the Olympic.
- 29:08Break yourself. Yeah, good move you.
- 29:10Know like right before the Olympic break, he put up like 7
- 29:12points in four games, you know, and so and you're just sitting
- 29:14there for two weeks looking at that game log and you're like,
- 29:17look at these four games. You know, like right before the
- 29:19break. And then you have him coming
- 29:20back and being on power play one because the Rantanen injury and
- 29:23then and hence being out. But it's still then you look at
- 29:25the minutes in that game log and like you said, like 12 minutes
- 29:27and you're just not sustainable. So no.
- 29:29So yeah, not much, not much else to say there heads should be
- 29:32back by the weekend. Another one that is a bit
- 29:35unclear if it's just a nothing or if you'll turn something.
- 29:38John Gibson of Detroit Red Wings day-to-day with an injury.
- 29:41He left mid game of the the last game he played.
- 29:44And in his absence, Cam Talbot would be the starter again.
- 29:48This one I saw most recent reports said that he seems to be
- 29:51fine. He just got a bit shaken up.
- 29:53So I don't, I wouldn't read too much into this if I mean it's a
- 29:57good, good exercise to have anyways, if Gibson is out for
- 30:00any period of time. How interested are you in Cam
- 30:02Talbot? I mean, listen, Cam Talbot is
- 30:06almost 40 years old, so I don't know how much you can handle the
- 30:10workload. And I'm saying workload to be to
- 30:14be proper. But I would definitely be
- 30:16interested. You're picking the starting
- 30:17goalie on a Detroit team that is going to make the playoffs, that
- 30:19is still fighting for seeding. So you could you could
- 30:22definitely do worse. Like, do I prefer, you know, the
- 30:26starter that is Cam Talbot over? I don't look at Tristan Jarry
- 30:30right now, probably. Like you'd rather anyone over
- 30:33Tristan. He's not even the starter
- 30:35anymore. Would you rather him over Connor
- 30:38Ingram if he's a starter? Yeah.
- 30:40Probably right, Yeah. So it's just that he'll be in
- 30:43that range. He'll be like a 80% of what John
- 30:46Gibson was previously is kind of how I put it, 75 to 80% of him.
- 30:50But looks like we have nothing to worry about.
- 30:53You guys might be listening to this already and, you know,
- 30:54Wednesday morning practice and they already said John Gibson is
- 30:57he's fine. It looked like he said they got
- 30:59you got like a even in the face or near the shoulder area and
- 31:01they kind of nicked them a little bit.
- 31:02And he he, he felt awkward, but then he was just fine.
- 31:06And they really tempered our expectations of the house
- 31:11severity. Injury was after the game.
- 31:12So nothing seemed like nothing to worry about.
- 31:14But we've been here before. John Gibson was worth
- 31:16mentioning. Yeah, absolutely.
- 31:18Alright, Travis, Connect any of the Philadelphia Flyers is
- 31:21day-to-day, and Owen Tippett is getting his line.
- 31:25One power play, one spot in his absence.
- 31:27I think he was a game time decision for the last game and
- 31:29then he missed the game and the coach has already said that he's
- 31:32a game time decision for the next game.
- 31:33So this is very much not going to be a long term thing.
- 31:36No, I I mean, I like tip it in bangers leagues, regardless of
- 31:39that deployment. I mean, because he's good for
- 31:41shots and hits, but I wouldn't expect this to wouldn't bang on
- 31:44this last long. I'm still tippet.
- 31:47I've been seeing like very slight, like root trade rumors
- 31:50about like I've been seeing some tippet to Boston rumors, which
- 31:53would be insane because their playoff schedule.
- 31:55As a as a tippet owner I'd be a big fan of that.
- 31:58But uh, but yeah, no. Honestly I wouldn't read too
- 32:00much into this connecting stuff. It just sucks if you have him
- 32:03this week and my opponent has him so I'm pretty I'm OK with
- 32:06this. Well, for once it happens to a
- 32:08doctor's opponent INL what happened to all my opponents?
- 32:13Guys always get healthy when I play them.
- 32:15I mean, they did. I'm playing against the guy who
- 32:16has Robert Thomas and Logan Cooley, 2 guys who have been out
- 32:18for literal months and then they come back the week I played.
- 32:21Them like crazy and ultimately as Matthew Olivier, who for the
- 32:24moment is 1 game one goal. So our curse is is real and
- 32:30active. It's crazy, you look at his game
- 32:31log and it's just zeros between when we played him like.
- 32:34He plays, he drops 4 points in two games plays, Josh scores a
- 32:37goal. You're welcome to literally
- 32:40every banker management fan that picked them up.
- 32:42Memes once again. I think it's just it's gonna be
- 32:44a thing every year. It's actually crazy, like I
- 32:46think we're gonna like add that like the Matthew Olivier, like,
- 32:49you know, index, like what weeks you should pick him up.
- 32:51It'll just be the weeks that me and Kevin play him.
- 32:54And he'll deliver, you heard. Guys anyways, let's go to the
- 32:58next one. Quentin Byfield of the LA
- 32:59Kings's day-to-day with an injury.
- 33:01He just that was kind of like last second.
- 33:04He was just announced out of the last game.
- 33:06So I don't know how serious this is.
- 33:08Andre Kopitar gets a spot on power play one while he's out.
- 33:11How interested are you in Kopitar?
- 33:13All by fields out. Feel like I'm almost never
- 33:15interested in Qatar. Like no matter how to my in my
- 33:18mind, he's always line one people one and he just doesn't
- 33:20do anything with it. So he'll have stretches where he
- 33:23does stuff. But like I've seen this guy get
- 33:25like one shot in four games. So he's not somebody that
- 33:28particularly one of my fantasy team, unless you're trying to
- 33:30stream face off wins. So that's that's literally all I
- 33:35have to say for do you think that you know, I saw him get a
- 33:37look with Panera and Kempe, like they were like, OK, let's try to
- 33:40get you going type of thing, but I don't know if that's going to
- 33:42last. We'll have to see with the new
- 33:44lines with the let's see how how things shake out.
- 33:47He could definitely he can't be set up for more success than
- 33:50being you know between those two guys and on power play 1.
- 33:53So if you can't make it work, then then not interested at all
- 33:56ever. But.
- 33:58I mean this last year, so they. Ever was doing a lot of heavy
- 34:02lifting. There, Yeah, for sure.
- 34:04No, I agree. And then in terms of Byfield, I
- 34:06really like Byfield rest of season if you can get healthy
- 34:09and stick on power play one like he was power play 1 before the
- 34:12coaching changed before the injury.
- 34:13So assuming he goes back there, I think the exact type of player
- 34:17who didn't have the deployment all year, you know, he's got the
- 34:19pedigree. He's we've seen him at flashes
- 34:21in the past. He's the type of guy I could see
- 34:22having a good finish to the season.
- 34:24But he's been like underperforming the whole year.
- 34:27So I feel like people have a negative, negative view on by
- 34:30field just because he he was supposed to be a breakout
- 34:33candidate this year, right? And nothing happened.
- 34:36So would you would you hold, even though the results are not
- 34:38necessarily there hoping like let's you have to drop like a
- 34:42like a Zuccarello for the chance at Byfield?
- 34:44Like would you do that? No, I'll just keep Zuccarello at
- 34:47that point, Right. So that's a, that's a fairpoint.
- 34:49Like in in our league, I just have like so many tropical guys
- 34:52that I'd love to take the shot at by field.
- 34:54But yeah, but they're still better options for sure.
- 34:58All right, let's move on to the next one.
- 34:59Mikael Granlund of the Anaheim Ducks is day-to-day with an
- 35:02injury, and Beckett Seneca is taking his spot on power play. 1
- 35:07And honestly, I don't understand, I don't think how, I
- 35:10don't see any way that he could get bumped off Airplay one with
- 35:13how well he's been playing. This season insane.
- 35:15If he is nuts. I'm fully on the train like yes,
- 35:18he he's my captain. Yeah, exactly.
- 35:21So I think there's a chance Brandon comes back from injury
- 35:23and just doesn't get his spot back.
- 35:25Or he bumped somebody else off. Yeah, I.
- 35:27Think Troy Terry is is cooked for the rest of the season.
- 35:29Like I think he right now he's hurt.
- 35:31We're not going to talk about him.
- 35:33He's so relevant. It feels like no, no, no shade,
- 35:36no whatever criteria. I'm sorry if you're listening,
- 35:38but it seems like your fantasy peak is behind you.
- 35:44Sanaki Seneca. I don't know how you wanna say,
- 35:46but whatever the right way of saying it is that's he kids a
- 35:49beast and he's only he's literally only 48% owned like so
- 35:52he's never on our waiver shows, but he still available in half
- 35:55of the leagues. If he's available in your
- 35:57league, I'd like seriously consider adding.
- 36:00I really like Anaheim schedule rest of season, so I would
- 36:03definitely pick him up. He's probably better than the
- 36:07two worst guys on your roster is is my guess, unless you're
- 36:09looking at 10 team league yeah, but the grand and I did say
- 36:12grand. I think he would have value when
- 36:14he's healthy because I do think that he's going to be an
- 36:16important part of this team. I see him either as you know,
- 36:19top six and probably power play one, but I wouldn't be shocked
- 36:23like Josh said, if he's power play 2.
- 36:24We'll have to monitor the situation will give you all the
- 36:26information as soon as he comes back.
- 36:28But for the moment, the Ducks are the Ducks are playoff team
- 36:31like we they were so hot and they were so dog awful and now
- 36:35they're so hopefully one of the teams were already penciling in
- 36:38for the playoffs. So.
- 36:39For sure. I mean, they're second in their
- 36:41division. Like they're, you know, they're
- 36:42better than Edmonton, that's for sure.
- 36:43Like it's honestly they, they can be better than Vegas.
- 36:46I think they could win their division.
- 36:48That's crazy. I know, but.
- 36:49Think about it where they were last year.
- 36:51I know it's actually nuts, but very exciting future for the
- 36:54Ducks and the future is now old man, as they say.
- 36:57I feel like there is a sleeper team to make a move.
- 36:59Like I feel like they were low key, low key in on Panera.
- 37:01And I'm just talking out of my my a dollar sign, dollar sign
- 37:04there. But I think they have it in them
- 37:06to make a move to go quote UN quote all in this year without
- 37:11sacrificing the future. They have a lot of assets and
- 37:13they're still a young team, right?
- 37:14Their window is just opening. So I would not be surprised if
- 37:16come Friday we hear somebody went to went to Anaheim, could
- 37:19have some fantasy impact. Yeah, fully agree.
- 37:23Alright. And lastly, Arturi Lehkonen of
- 37:24the Colorado Avalanches day-to-day with an injury, he
- 37:27wasn't on power play one when he got injured, but those kind of
- 37:30couple of wingers, like the top 4 wingers are always kind of
- 37:33shuffling around. So if anything that just kind of
- 37:35solidifies. Right now it's a Nelson and
- 37:38Landeskog on power play 1. So when guys like Luckin or
- 37:42Nichushkin get injured, it just it just solidifies the power
- 37:45play one spot for the other guys.
- 37:46And as we always mentioned Colorado, somehow they have the
- 37:49league worst power play. But it doesn't matter.
- 37:51More ice time and power place first valuable. 1st and every
- 37:55offensive metric but have the worst power play in the league.
- 37:58You could not make that up. Like it's just not somebody at
- 38:00the tip the scales and be like you can't be too overpowered.
- 38:03Like something has to go wrong here.
- 38:04Yeah. I don't know if I'm making this
- 38:06up, though, but it did. I feel like I saw Jared Bednar
- 38:08say like he's gonna miss a lot of time.
- 38:10I think I saw that as well, yeah.
- 38:12So maybe day-to-day for now, but I would not be surprised to like
- 38:16this guy is on the shelf until the playoffs.
- 38:18And I think the only the only thing that would be a maybe, you
- 38:21know, he wasn't already, he wasn't power play 1.
- 38:24So nobody's getting bumping, getting a bump up there.
- 38:27But I do think it means, you know, you rely more on the
- 38:29chicken and those under those other wingers that, you know,
- 38:32the Ola sins as well. I think those guys probably
- 38:34become more integral to the success of the team because
- 38:37somebody got to step up to score the goals that let you know what
- 38:40I scored. So.
- 38:40For sure. And I think the one guy on
- 38:43Colorado these days that seems to be killing it that we
- 38:46recommended to pick up on our waivers show is is Gabe
- 38:49Landeskog. So I think that, you know, if
- 38:52this solidifies his bottom line on Power Play 1 like this entry,
- 38:55it makes him even more of an ad than we already said so and he's
- 38:58already kind of popping off so. I think that's really good.
- 39:01I would definitely get in on that, yeah.
- 39:03The issue with Lincoln was always his deployment.
- 39:05We were never, we would never be able to guarantee that he kept
- 39:07it. Now I feel like guys are
- 39:08dropping. So we always said if if he has
- 39:11line one power play 1, he is very valuable.
- 39:13It's just never be sure if he was going to keep it.
- 39:15Now you're kind of more sure than you were before.
- 39:17So if you have this, if you have the chance to grab, now's the
- 39:20time. Yeah, great.
- 39:22Let's talk about a few players who came back from injury.
- 39:25We have Brayden Point of the Tampa Bay Lightning line, one
- 39:27power play 1. He demoted Brandon Hagel from
- 39:30power play one, as we've been saying for months.
- 39:33So I really hope that all the Hill owners listen to us.
- 39:36Jake's a Higel owner. He did not listen to us.
- 39:39I think he was sending out offers.
- 39:41I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on that one, but I think.
- 39:44He never goes too hard on the offers.
- 39:45He gets caught up in the moment. I feel like he's just like odds.
- 39:48He he he sees a self fulfilling prophecy of what the the best
- 39:52outcome is. And I mean, we all do it.
- 39:54You know, it's it's hard not to think about like this guy just
- 39:57sustaining what he's doing. But that's why you have, you
- 40:00know, your co-host here to. Life really like.
- 40:03Down to reality a little bit. I feel like it's one of my
- 40:05strengths, but also kind of weakness.
- 40:08I take it overboard. I feel like out of the three of
- 40:09us, I'm the most like, if I have a guy who's doing well, I'm
- 40:11immediately like, I need to get rid of him, you know, 100%.
- 40:14Sometimes, like sometimes it's great because like, you know,
- 40:16there's definitely times where I sell high and it's awesome, but
- 40:18sometimes I it's not great. Like I sold gospel for like
- 40:22pretty cheap. You know, I was like, he's going
- 40:23to fall off. Or Eric Carlson a few years ago
- 40:26when he had that. That was a little win, but he
- 40:28definitely didn't drop off like I like I thought he was going
- 40:31to. But yeah, I feel like we tried
- 40:33to keep each other honest and. But yeah, anyway.
- 40:35So I hope everyone sold Brandon Hagel and they got the chance.
- 40:37And I. Hope he's still a beast.
- 40:38Yes, yeah, It's just that he was number one.
- 40:41Yeah. And he he was just playing out
- 40:43of his mind. So he was a huge, so high.
- 40:45And I hope everyone bought Brayden Point at some point this
- 40:47year as we were kind of like talking about it nonstop because
- 40:49he's lying on power play one with Kucherov on Tampa.
- 40:52Like, you know, and he's he's playing, you know, he seems to
- 40:54be getting his groove back. So I I definitely would to have
- 40:58points going into the fantasy playoffs, especially week 21 to
- 41:0123 or 2224. Tampa is a great schedule.
- 41:04So I'm really hoping that a lot of you guys bought low on him.
- 41:09Yeah, I mean bring Point, I feel like when he was injured were
- 41:11telling you to buy low when he was dog water before the injury
- 41:14were telling you to buy low. When he was about to come back
- 41:16from injury were telling you to buy low when he got hurt again.
- 41:18We're telling the Bible like every.
- 41:20We were super confident and Brayden Point the whole season
- 41:22it felt like. So hopefully you listen to us
- 41:24and hopefully you had the opportunity to capitalize on
- 41:25that. So we were able to pick him up
- 41:27off waivers just crazy enough, but I wish it was I was in those
- 41:30leagues that just feels like free value.
- 41:32I picked up Mark Stone in one league.
- 41:33Somebody had cut him crazy and I was shocked I was able to pick
- 41:37him up. I had to use my waiver claim on
- 41:39him, but listen, the man was like 1.5 points per game for a
- 41:42long time in the season and now he's hurt.
- 41:44So yeah, it all comes full circle.
- 41:46Classic Mark Stone alright. And then Carillon Marchenko of
- 41:51Columbus Blue Jackets came back line on power play 1.
- 41:53He bumped Kent Johnson off of power play 1 and he's also kind
- 41:57of picking up where he where he left off.
- 41:59So again, I hope there was a time where Marchenko was a great
- 42:02buy low. So I hope a lot of you guys were
- 42:04able to get on that and they've got a great schedule rest of
- 42:06season. And Ken Johnson, I mean,
- 42:09Columbus is kind of going through it right now because I
- 42:12feel like everybody's sake that the dog warns you didn't have
- 42:14Bunny right now. We're not.
- 42:15We didn't mention them today because they're just illnesses.
- 42:17These guys are probably gonna play next game.
- 42:20Um, and Ken Johnson was a scratch, so that's something to
- 42:23note there that he's, he needs a change of scenery, I think.
- 42:26Like not even. Not even.
- 42:28Not even the bonus bump could could save Ken Johnson.
- 42:30So yeah. Yeah, alright, that that takes
- 42:34us to the famous would you Rathers?
- 42:37Jake's not here, so. So Kevin's gonna have to split
- 42:40the difference between me and him, which I think is a lot
- 42:42harder. Yeah, me and Josh never saw the
- 42:45difference. We're on the same wavelength.
- 42:46That's why we need that's we when Jake is here is like
- 42:48perfect, like the difference, but we'll try to project what JQ
- 42:52would would choose I. Think yeah.
- 42:55But for those of you listening for the first time, welcome.
- 42:58This is the best segment in all of fantasy hockey where I choose
- 43:03five would you Rathers? I choose one centre, left wing,
- 43:05right wing, defenseman, goalie. And I try to split the
- 43:08difference trying to determine, you know, where is the line that
- 43:10we can separate these players Really good for, you know, trade
- 43:14conversations. But now trade deadline is behind
- 43:16us. So we're going to focus on more
- 43:17guys are close to your waiver level, maybe slightly above the
- 43:21bottom guys of your roster, most likely most of your leagues.
- 43:23And you guys are just hot and popping on on the waiver wire.
- 43:26Um, so interesting conversations to be had.
- 43:29Let's get started with the left wing position.
- 43:33Would you rather rest of season and we're always talking full
- 43:37banger categories without face off wins because most things do
- 43:40not have face off wins. But like, you know, shots, hits,
- 43:43blocks will add shorties. We'll add the pins in there.
- 43:47Would you rather Gabe Landeskog, who we just talked about, or
- 43:51Ricard Raquel of the Pittsburgh Penguins?
- 43:55Wow. OK, that's tough.
- 44:00It's like there's the the recency bias and there's the
- 44:02like whole season, you know? Yeah, like whole season it was,
- 44:06it was recall for sure. But recently bias, it's
- 44:08definitely Landeskog. Crosby's injured, so they
- 44:12definitely take a hit. So now his line is Raquel Rust
- 44:14and Kindle. Like, I like Kindle, but that's
- 44:16definitely a huge downgrade. The part is not so yeah, the
- 44:19power play has been nuts. It hasn't stopped.
- 44:21That's honestly. Crazy Carlton and I feel like
- 44:23he's got like 3 points in his last three games.
- 44:26Yeah, I mean, there was that one game they played against like
- 44:28Vegas and they got like 4 power play goals.
- 44:30Like that's really tough. I love Raquel's hits and blocks.
- 44:35But you know, Landis Scott, we're not we're not counting the
- 44:38face off wins because he's been shooting, he's been hitting
- 44:40power place nonexistent for Colorado.
- 44:43I think I still gotta give the edge to Raquel.
- 44:45He also has one extra game in the finals.
- 44:47Although like both have both have great playoff schedules.
- 44:50I think it's easy to get caught up in the recency bias of
- 44:53limescale. I also think Raquel's like
- 44:55deployment is a lock, whereas limescale can get bumped at any
- 44:57moment. So I love me some Landeskog, but
- 44:59I'm still going Raquel. Yeah, it was it was close when I
- 45:04when I wrote this down in my mind, I was going around this
- 45:06cog. But then the more I thought
- 45:08about it, the more I was like try to separate myself from like
- 45:10the the last week of production. And I was like, I just I think I
- 45:13have to go. Raquel, I think, you know, first
- 45:15of all, getting the block from the forward position, both of
- 45:17them are, you know, when you're eligible and getting face off
- 45:20wins. If you wanted to add face off
- 45:21wins into the equation is kind of similar there.
- 45:23But I think to me is that the power play is a big difference.
- 45:25I know that Pittsburgh is a really good power play even
- 45:27without Crosby. And I know Colorado for some
- 45:31reason has the worst power play in the league.
- 45:32So I think that's the deal maker here for me, even though
- 45:37arguably on this has been better in the last week.
- 45:40Yeah, has been awful, but has been good.
- 45:42Does that mean I don't know that Pittsburgh has like a top power
- 45:45plant leak even after losing Crosby And then you look?
- 45:49At the errors. Carlson, Baby.
- 45:51I mean, yeah, it's like, I don't know what it is.
- 45:53Like you look at the person like, I mean, no Carlson sick,
- 45:56right? He's clearly a great power
- 45:57quarterback, has been through his whole career and he's
- 45:59keeping it up. But like you've got kill macar,
- 46:01you know, like like what's going on?
- 46:03Maybe neither McKinnon like Marty leeches Like it's like,
- 46:06how does it make sense? Like you gotta think like, is it
- 46:08a coaching thing? You think that Pittsburgh is a
- 46:10really good power play coach in Colorado has a terrible 1 like.
- 46:13I don't know what the coach. Putting the wrong players out, I
- 46:16don't know what it is. It's just like how does that
- 46:18like something like that even like calibrate, especially with
- 46:21the Crosby entry is what making me think that.
- 46:23But. I don't know, did you look at
- 46:25Nathan McKinnon starts when he's still averaging like .4 power
- 46:27play points a game, which is still nuts, right?
- 46:29So maybe they're just getting so many more opportunities.
- 46:31They're conversion rate is really bad, but they're still
- 46:33able to get the power play points, you know, for fantasy
- 46:35anyways. Yeah um, it's it's an
- 46:38interesting conversation. I feel like somebody got to deep
- 46:40dive in that in the in the offseason.
- 46:43Or maybe it's like, yeah, honestly, I don't know.
- 46:46I don't know that that is crazy, though it's true because like
- 46:48Mckinnon's like CarPlay points per game don't don't take a hit
- 46:50at all despite being like the worst power place.
- 46:52So it's it's very interesting. Alright, what's the next?
- 46:54One Where do you think Jake would have went to?
- 46:58I think Jackie would have gone with Landis Gog.
- 47:00Yeah, I think so too. I think, I mean, listen, it's
- 47:03easy to go with the recent hype and just follow the data at that
- 47:05point, especially after the like an injury.
- 47:07But yeah, yeah. So we'll say hypothetically
- 47:11split the difference there. Yeah, it's easy when you can
- 47:15just make up the other answer. Definitely would have went this
- 47:19way. Yeah.
- 47:21OK, OK, going to the second one. We're talking about centres now.
- 47:26This is a fascinating one in my mind.
- 47:29I feel like I asked this exact question like a couple weeks
- 47:32ago. Now we're here reevaluating
- 47:34because it makes sense again. But would you rather rest of
- 47:37season Robert Thomas or Adam Fantilli?
- 47:41It's OK, So obviously like Thomas gets all this trade to
- 47:46Buffalo hype. Not that it happened yet, but it
- 47:48feels like it's a done deal. But honestly, like I'm so
- 47:51impressed with Chantilly, like I'm playing against him this
- 47:53week. Not happy about it.
- 47:55I think this guy's a star. I think he's he finally got the
- 47:58deployment this year and he's running with it.
- 48:00I'm super high on Gentilly. So even though I'm actually
- 48:02like, I remember this question, I don't know if it was rather if
- 48:05it was just like a a question that we had talked.
- 48:07About We all went Chantilly when we made a decision.
- 48:09Yeah. You were not on the podcast.
- 48:11You're right, yeah. We thought that you would go
- 48:14Robert Thomas, but then you told us you would go Chantilly.
- 48:16Yeah, yeah. And yeah.
- 48:18So, so you're right. I wasn't on, but it was on
- 48:20there. But I still gotta go Chantilly.
- 48:22And am I honestly my, my like standing like the way I do?
- 48:25Both of them went up, but like, Bentley was already higher and
- 48:29they so if that makes sense. So yeah, no, I'm just so high on
- 48:32Chantilly. I'm very curious to see where he
- 48:34goes and drafts next year. Yeah, I mean, just to put it
- 48:37into context with like Chantilly, we know he has the
- 48:39edge in the category coverage. Like this guy's a banger study.
- 48:42He shoots, he hits, he can throw in some blocks here and there,
- 48:46but just the the shots and hits combo.
- 48:48You know that with the line one power play, one playing with
- 48:51like an elite winger and Marchenko, I think he set up
- 48:54just for success. And I think maybe Thomas is
- 48:57stealing a slightly higher in points if he does get traded to
- 49:00Buffalo or potentially somewhere else.
- 49:02But because right now Thomas is at what like points 27 ish
- 49:07points per game. Like he could get to a .91 point
- 49:11per game, but if until he's at a point 8.85 doing with the
- 49:15category recovery I still prefer him so.
- 49:18Well, I agree, I think. What did Jiggy say last time?
- 49:21He said Chantilly. Yeah, he's a fantilli think he
- 49:24would say Chantilly. He always said he always likes
- 49:26the young guys. Yeah.
- 49:28Well, we'll do not take that out of context, please.
- 49:33All right. Going to the goalie position
- 49:35now, this might be, I think, a slam dunk for some, I think it's
- 49:39some maniacal question for others.
- 49:41But would you rather rest of season?
- 49:44You're not gonna be happy about this one?
- 49:45Josh Kemper. Yakov Dobesh or Darcy Kemper
- 49:50Rest of. Season.
- 49:52Let me put it this way, I'd rather a flaming hot pile of dog
- 49:57seat whatever word I could say that's not gonna get leap over
- 50:00Darcy Kemper. So really, I'm tired of being
- 50:05non biased and trying to look at it objectively.
- 50:07I've hated every moment of owning camp for this year.
- 50:09I'm still holding on, hoping, hoping beyond hope that it turns
- 50:13around, but I'm taking Dobish. The haves are sick.
- 50:15Dobish is clearly like making like a solid argument for being
- 50:20the starter. He's a starter, right?
- 50:21Now he's fully the started. The only thing that can hurt
- 50:24Dobesh is if for some reason they have side to make a stupid
- 50:26trade for like Bennington or something.
- 50:28Yeah, like, I don't think it's gonna happen.
- 50:29I. Trust the Brandy.
- 50:31That's it. Like I don't think they're gonna
- 50:32do that, but if they did, then obviously should be kind of
- 50:35cooked. You're not gonna trade for a
- 50:37goalie if you're not going to play them.
- 50:38But I don't see that happening. So I'm definitely going Dobish
- 50:42over Kemper. Like I said, I'm I think at this
- 50:44point I'm going most people over Kemper.
- 50:46So where's the line for Dobesh? Because if we're basically
- 50:49viewing him as the starting goalie on a Montreal Canadiens,
- 50:52the winds, lot of games, Domino's record itself is like,
- 50:55great, right? Like, he's basically been solid
- 50:57the whole year. They've gone through stretches
- 50:59of trying to get Montebello going, and that's kind of like
- 51:01hindered Dobesh is, you know? Success here he had a few
- 51:04stretches of not being great let's.
- 51:05Like, but it was mostly because like, he was consistent and they
- 51:07they kind of messed up. So consistency trying to get
- 51:10multiple going. Yeah.
- 51:12So where do we draw the line? Like would you rather Dobesh or
- 51:16like a Jeremy Sweetman? That's a great one.
- 51:19I think I'd go Dobesh. Yeah, OK.
- 51:22What about John Gibson or Dobesh?
- 51:27That's super close. I mean, we're right there in the
- 51:29standings with Detroit. I guess I like if we're counting
- 51:34in the injury, then I'd go Dobish.
- 51:36If we're not counting the injury, I'd go Gibson just
- 51:38because I think he has like we're saying Dobesh is the
- 51:41starter and he should be, but we've seen the past them try to
- 51:44get Monty going, whereas there's no, they're not trying to get
- 51:46Cam Talbot going. So until Gibson, if he's
- 51:48healthy. Got it.
- 51:51I mean, that's I feel like he's like a fringe top 10 goalie rest
- 51:54of season Dobesh with the current position that he's in.
- 51:57Yeah. Alright, going into the
- 52:01defenseman position, this one might be controversial, we might
- 52:05upset some people here, but I think it's worth having the
- 52:07conversation with how things are going.
- 52:09But would you rather rest of the season?
- 52:13We're trying to make the hard decisions here, guys.
- 52:15We're trying to win fantasy championships.
- 52:17Not, you know. Not make friends.
- 52:19Not not not make friends and play to big name fantasy
- 52:22players, but would you rather Brent Clark or Adam Fox rest of
- 52:25season? I knew Adam Fox is gonna be on
- 52:28it. I thought you were gonna, I
- 52:29thought you were gonna go with like Dougie versus Fox.
- 52:30I think we've done that one in the past.
- 52:32So look, obviously Fox has the elite playoff schedule of the
- 52:36444. Hmm.
- 52:38But do I think there's a risk he gets shut down?
- 52:41Like if he's not healthy like he could be the next, you know, one
- 52:43to be shut down. I think Rangers are dog awful.
- 52:48I'm very hyped about Clark and LA.
- 52:51With this coaching change, it may be I I really like Clark's
- 52:55shots and blocks. Fox is not a back hatch of any
- 52:58kind person. He's a, he's a points guy, so.
- 53:01He can get you like 1.8 like shots, blocks type of thing
- 53:04which is not nothing. But I mean Clark's been doing
- 53:06like two shots like 2.7 blocks, which is like.
- 53:09Really puts them in blocks is insane.
- 53:11Yeah, so. You know, the Rangers are
- 53:15planarians gone, Trocheck is probably gone.
- 53:17Like who? Who's the talent here?
- 53:19And if you like the 585 production is not going to be,
- 53:22you know, sustainable. And even the power play, how
- 53:24good is the power play going to be gonna be losing most games?
- 53:28That's really tough. I think that like I definitely
- 53:30much prefer Brent Clark situation like who's gonna be
- 53:33playing with like all that not entry issue, whatever.
- 53:37Fox is still the better defenseman.
- 53:39Like just, you know, like Clark's going to be a great
- 53:41defence when we still young and Fox is still like a top five
- 53:43defence in the league in my opinion.
- 53:45Hmm. I think, I think you still gotta
- 53:49go Fox, especially because he has the playoff schedule like on
- 53:51his side. And I do think that like even
- 53:54with how high I see how much I like Clark rest of the season, I
- 53:58still think Fox is gonna have better points and better
- 54:02PowerPoints per game over over Clark.
- 54:05I think Clark's gonna have the better shots and blocks.
- 54:07But I think, I still think I go Fox with the extra games.
- 54:11It's so tight. I was.
- 54:12I came in here ready to say Brandon Clark, to be honest,
- 54:15just because. I wanted to I have him on my
- 54:17team and. I know, I know, I know.
- 54:19I was gonna be like, at a certain point, you have to
- 54:21evaluate situations and you need to just make a call and, you
- 54:25know, put fantasy names aside and just be like, who's going to
- 54:28give me the production that I need to win my fantasy
- 54:30championships? And I think to me, it's like I'm
- 54:34giving the edge for the playoff schedule that does some of the
- 54:36heavy lifting. But then after that, I'm
- 54:38thinking about like, you know, if he gets shut down, that's a 0
- 54:40for me, right? I'm not gonna have the
- 54:41opportunity to get Brian Clark on waivers or something, you
- 54:44know? Yeah, which I'm not saying is
- 54:45super available, but he's still available in some leagues out
- 54:48there. Like if you're 20%, yeah, if
- 54:50you're in a 10 or 12 team leader, there's a chance Brian
- 54:52Clark is on waivers right now. So I tough for me, my gut is
- 54:59telling brand Clark, my gut is telling me brand Clark because I
- 55:02just feel like and I have Fox in one of my leagues.
- 55:05I have the Fox sabotaged stack. So the only guys that are still
- 55:08going to remain near Rangers. So I guess we'll see, but it's
- 55:12it's tough. What do you think you would go?
- 55:17That's I think he would go Clark, he was trying to do on it
- 55:19Clark for me in in a trade like except he wasn't willing to give
- 55:23anyone who's not a drop. So yeah, yeah.
- 55:27But I, I think, yeah, I like, for me, I'm just trying to like
- 55:31not get too hyped about my own guys and trying to be as unwise
- 55:34as I can. And like the way I see it is
- 55:35like, think of like Quinn Hughes on Vancouver.
- 55:39Despite being like with playing with absolute garbage, he was
- 55:42still putting up great numbers, you know, and so.
- 55:45OK, you sold me with the playoff schedule.
- 55:48That's why if Clark had the playoffs, like if the playoff
- 55:51schedules were inversed, I would go with Clark.
- 55:52But I think the playoff schedule and like just who Fox is, is
- 55:55enough to make me still choose Fox.
- 55:57No. All right, last one.
- 56:00These are two guys that have been some of the hottest players
- 56:04in the NHL and their on ice performance has matched their
- 56:07looks. I'm talking about Matt Duchene
- 56:12versus Charlie Coyle. That's a good.
- 56:15Rest of season, who we going with?
- 56:19For me, it fully hinges on how long do we think Mikko Rantanen
- 56:23is gonna be out for? Cause if Rantanen is out for the
- 56:26rest of the fancy season, I'm easily going to Shane.
- 56:28But if Brandon and comes back in like a week or two, I'd rather
- 56:33have Coil on my team. So based on what I think of the
- 56:36entry, I think Nathan is going to be out for the rest of the
- 56:38fantasy season. I think they're gonna hold him
- 56:40until playoffs is the impression I'm getting.
- 56:42If like maybe a game or two just to get back into things towards
- 56:45the end of the season. So for that reason, I gotta go
- 56:47with Shane, but I think it's a great one.
- 56:50Dushane, I think just has higher upside, but also kind of like I
- 56:53don't want him at all for Antonio's back.
- 56:54So it's an interesting way to look at it.
- 56:57I'm in. Duchene was a guy that we were
- 56:58not on at all this year. Like he was a point per game
- 57:01player last year. I think one of only like I think
- 57:0335 or 36 players last year hit a point per game.
- 57:06He was one of them. He does he's very
- 57:09one-dimensional and that he's not going to get you much
- 57:11category coverage. It was just kind of like the
- 57:13points. I don't know how it happened
- 57:15that he averaged that much, but this season I feel like we were
- 57:19really off that boat. But if you're put into a
- 57:21position to succeed on the power play, one of the better players
- 57:24in the league, you know, playing with top talent, you reevaluate
- 57:27the situation. I think he's really performed
- 57:29with that opportunity right now. Like you said, if Brandon is out
- 57:32rest of season, I think you got to go do changes from the upside
- 57:34of being on such a better team with the deployment.
- 57:37But Coil is probably like the safer pick in terms of, you
- 57:40know, what you're getting. He's line 3C, but he's playing
- 57:43line one. He's playing a power play 1 and
- 57:45PK 1. So he's playing the important
- 57:48minutes there and he's delivered.
- 57:49So feel like every game I see, you know, Coil 2 points or
- 57:53whatever and I'm just like, wow, he's doing it again.
- 57:56It's crazy. It's actually crazy, yeah.
- 57:58Please Matthew Olivia at 5V5. So I'm just putting it out
- 58:01there, you know? Pretty much line on.
- 58:02Yeah. Yeah, and I don't blame us for
- 58:05being off of Duchene. I will be off of Duchene for the
- 58:08rest of his career. It's just the only reason he's
- 58:11doing well is because Randy's out.
- 58:12Like he wasn't doing well before that, like when he wasn't on
- 58:15power play one. And last year, the reason that
- 58:16he was point per game is because his line of him was Sagan.
- 58:19And I think Ben is the third guy.
- 58:20Like they were just on fire. Like they were like playing like
- 58:22that's how some of these teams like Florida, Dallas, like, and
- 58:25they actually have they get better matchups.
- 58:27They essentially have multiple first lines because they're so
- 58:29deep. So, so that's why he was so good
- 58:31last year. But I don't blame us for not
- 58:33being a big fans going into it. So you're going to shine over
- 58:36coil? Yeah, I think.
- 58:38Same for me. Where do you think JK would go?
- 58:42He probably chose Maverick Bork over both so.
- 58:46You did pick him up for a fantasy team.
- 58:48He did. He's a man of his word, you
- 58:50know, like he said something on the pod and he, he believes in
- 58:52it. He said he believes in his
- 58:53convictions. He does.
- 58:55He has. Convictions are not always
- 58:56right, but Jake is never wrong. He's just.
- 58:58Seriously. Yeah, that's exactly that's the
- 59:01saying. But no, I think you would do
- 59:04training here. I think it would be a three-way
- 59:06sweep. Yeah, Alright, I guess that
- 59:09wraps it up for the would you rathers.
