- 0:24Speaker 2: came back from four to zero down, took a five
- 0:26Speaker 2: to four lead in the eight with the help of
- 0:27Speaker 2: a fielder obstruction play. You rarely see a wild pitch
- 0:31Speaker 2: to the score of the run that got road problems.

- 4:09Speaker 4: Well, those are some really great stats.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Rough season so far for the Storm, but a positive here.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Twenty year old center Dominate Malunga was selected to the
- 4:18Speaker 2: WNBA All Star Team. She's the third youngest All Star

- 4:23Speaker 2: Bay while setting a major league record for striking out
- 4:26Speaker 2: seventeen times for the second consecutive game. That's thirty four strikeouts.
- 4:31Speaker 2: The Yankees have had to Tampa Bay two nights in
- 4:32Speaker 2: a row. The Mariners play Tampa Bay beginning Friday.
- 4:36Speaker 4: They were on a Florida trip. Yeah, and that be careful, gents.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Gary Hill Junior talking about this road trip is treacherous.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Marlins just one for the eighth time in eleven games
- 4:45Speaker 2: last night over them, and then they go to Tampa Bay.
- 4:46Speaker 3: It's playing better than anybody in the league.
- 4:48Speaker 4: There's a Florida man around every corner. Folks.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Just be careful spoken like a New Yorker who has
- 4:54Speaker 3: vacation quite a bit to Florida.
- 4:56Speaker 4: That's what we do.
- 4:58Speaker 3: This also happened last night Pittsburgh. Oh my, oh my,
- 5:05Speaker 3: this is tape. You've never seen it.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Ten RBIs quite a pirated the.
- 5:14Speaker 3: First pattern with a ten r.
- 5:15Speaker 2: E eye game ten ten RBI sports and at Pittsburgh
- 5:21Speaker 2: talking about that. The Pirates have played baseball for one
- 5:24Speaker 2: hundred and forty four years. Around here, we're celebrating the
- 5:27Speaker 2: fiftieth anniversary of the Mariners, one hundred and forty four
- 5:30Speaker 2: years since they were the Pittsburgh Alleghanys. And this last
- 5:33Speaker 2: night was the first time that someone hit ten RBI
- 5:35Speaker 2: in one game. Ryan o'hearned three home runs to get
- 5:39Speaker 2: that ten RBI.
- 5:39Speaker 3: That would you hear? The third home runs?
- 5:41Speaker 4: Kind of ridiculous, right, It's yeah.
- 5:43Speaker 3: That's a month for some guy. We need to have a.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Ridiculous dark board.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Yeah that's a good idea.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I think so.
- 5:49Speaker 3: You could throw at it.
- 5:51Speaker 7: Yes, Okay, what ridiculous thing will happen today?
- 5:54Speaker 4: Someone gets ten RBIs in the game.
- 5:56Speaker 7: And by the way, for Pittsburgh, hey, when do wet
- 6:01Speaker 7: three games over five hundred, that's my hometown team.
- 6:04Speaker 3: There are three games over five hundred. Beat the Braves
- 6:06Speaker 3: by like eleven two last night they did?
- 6:08Speaker 2: Is the best team in Ashley Jessamine's hating on my
- 6:11Speaker 2: Pirate's so easy to do.
- 6:12Speaker 4: It's been I'm just I'm not a pit I'm not
- 6:14Speaker 4: a Pennsylvania fan.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Yeah, well you're from New York.
- 6:17Speaker 4: I get that exactly. Okay, A lot of.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Penguins Islanders. Yeah, I get it.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Seahawks Jokey's a due to report to training camp eleven
- 6:25Speaker 2: days on July seventeenth. Veterans of Port July twenty fourth,
- 6:28Speaker 2: first practice the Virginia Mason Athletics Center.
- 6:30Speaker 3: July twenty fifth.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Coach Mike McDonald's be playing in the Pro Am golf
- 6:35Speaker 2: tournament down in Lake Tahoe this weekend long with Steph
- 6:37Speaker 2: Curry and all the boys. Now on with the Wednesday Show.
- 6:40Speaker 2: It's just a cheap shot, Jessaman, Dude, I'm sorry, but what.
- 6:44Speaker 7: Is good about Pennsylvania? Easy like churning butter in the
- 6:48Speaker 7: weird country.
- 6:49Speaker 2: There's this many YouTubers, this many Super Bowl rings the
- 6:51Speaker 2: Seahawks have or these Steelers have six.
- 6:55Speaker 4: I don't like them.
- 6:56Speaker 3: The Golden Triangle at Point State Park, Kennywood Park. I
- 7:01Speaker 3: can go on and on.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Heinz ketchup. I'm going on about what's good about Pennsylvania
- 7:05Speaker 2: in eastern half. You can have the Eastern half except
- 7:07Speaker 2: for the Army Navy in Philadelphia. I don't want anything
- 7:09Speaker 2: to do with Eastern Pennsylvania.
- 7:10Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 7:11Speaker 4: I got a battery thrown in my head at a
- 7:13Speaker 4: Philly game one time.
- 7:14Speaker 2: That's Eastern Pennsylvania. That's a whole different world. That's just
- 7:18Speaker 2: the boost all that. Yeah, that's not even Pittsburgh's do
- 7:21Speaker 2: not And I'm not at Pittsburgh. We grew up at
- 7:23Speaker 2: Eastern Ohio, thirty minutes west of Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh's do not
- 7:26Speaker 2: associate with Philadelphia.
- 7:27Speaker 4: It's like two Okay, Well, that's good to know.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Penguins, Flyers, Pirates, Phillies used to be in the same division.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Yeah, they want nothing to.
- 7:34Speaker 7: Do with I mean, I did grow up going to
- 7:36Speaker 7: camps at UPenn so I was look at you, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 7:41Speaker 7: I went to.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Volleyball camp at the University of Pennsylvania.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Beautiful campus that is.
- 7:45Speaker 4: I still have a shirt from there. Oh yeah.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Sound sentimental about that, Yeah, a little.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Bit, because I had all the hopes and dreams ahead
- 7:53Speaker 4: of me.
- 7:53Speaker 3: And no it's not.
- 7:55Speaker 7: It's not the worst place. But I just associate anything
- 7:59Speaker 7: with Pennsylvania.
- 8:00Speaker 3: With Philly broad Bush, broad broad Brush.
- 8:03Speaker 4: Well they did it. They were painters.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Western Pennsylvania has a pretty good history itself, although, like
- 8:10Speaker 3: I said, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia hate each other. Yet during the.
- 8:12Speaker 2: War World War two, the Steelers and the Eagles merged
- 8:16Speaker 2: and became the Steegles.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Really yeah, and they played.
- 8:20Speaker 4: They were around back then. This is me being uneducated.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Oh, yes, the NFL was around pre World War Two,
- 8:28Speaker 2: and during World War Two there was a shorties of
- 8:30Speaker 2: players because they got conscripted into the military service.
- 8:33Speaker 4: I'm just so used to it out here.
- 8:34Speaker 3: It's not like, right, every in.
- 8:37Speaker 2: The West Coast begin exactly. Everything in the West Coast
- 8:40Speaker 2: began in the seventies. Well, the world existed before the seventies.
- 8:43Speaker 4: I grew up in that world. Yes, I'm aware. I'm
- 8:46Speaker 4: just very uneducated.
- 8:47Speaker 2: But prior to World War During World War Two, a
- 8:49Speaker 2: lot of the players were conscripted into the military, and
- 8:52Speaker 2: so there was a fewer there were fewer players, and
- 8:54Speaker 2: teams contracted and the rosters contracted, and the Steelers and
- 8:57Speaker 2: the Eagles merged and became the Steegles for a couple
- 9:01Speaker 2: of seasons.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Okay, well for some reason I like it now.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Anyway, just to let you know.
- 9:06Speaker 2: On the show today, the Mariners beat themselves with their
- 9:08Speaker 2: own rules again last night. Their protection for the future man.
- 9:11Speaker 2: We talked about this with Steve Phillips last week. It's
- 9:14Speaker 2: just keeps sacrificing at present absolutely a little league play.
- 9:18Speaker 3: In the top of the tenth we're going to talk
- 9:19Speaker 3: about I just.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Had the high school coach, baseball coach, and he was
- 9:24Speaker 2: just screaming at the screen watching it in real time.
- 9:27Speaker 3: My son was watching with me.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Here's ideally played like up till twelve fifteen years old
- 9:33Speaker 2: at baseball.
- 9:34Speaker 3: He knew not to do that.
- 9:35Speaker 2: We're from Alexi Lawless, who just buffooned himself yesterday by
- 9:39Speaker 2: representing why US soccer system it's just broken. And then
- 9:43Speaker 2: we're gonna hear from Landon Donovan on what's wrong with
- 9:45Speaker 2: how the US soccer developed its prospects for the national
- 9:48Speaker 2: team and including for the World Cup that they can
- 9:50Speaker 2: never get pasted around to sixteen.
- 9:52Speaker 3: I don't have a name. I'm going to go to
- 9:54Speaker 3: Miami not to talk to Gary Hill junior game. We'll
- 9:56Speaker 3: get him a break. We're talking to Greg Kote. He
- 9:59Speaker 3: is from the Miami Herald.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Mclachy brother of mine, South Florida institution, been a columnist
- 10:04Speaker 2: down there since I think before Dan Marino was a
- 10:07Speaker 2: quarterback for the Dolphins. We're gonna talk about the Marlins.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Are they really for real? Because they're eight games over
- 10:12Speaker 2: five hundred. Speak the Mariners last night, I went out.
- 10:14Speaker 2: The World Cup's been in Miami. Messi's been playing down there.
- 10:17Speaker 2: It's been torrential rains and people partying in Miami gardens.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Yeah, the East Coast has kind of gotten whacked by
- 10:23Speaker 4: the weather.
- 10:23Speaker 3: By the way, Yeah, ridiculously hot as usual. Lebron James
- 10:27Speaker 3: to the heat. Is that a thing again? They're going
- 10:28Speaker 3: to redo that. Bring your talents to southeast.
- 10:30Speaker 4: He's Jim, Greg gonna interview.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Exactly high school gym somewhere the flights out. Do they
- 10:35Speaker 3: need him?
- 10:36Speaker 2: They got your honest I don't. We'll talk to Greg
- 10:39Speaker 2: about that. And we're asking what's up with the Dolphins.
- 10:41Speaker 2: I mean they're starting over and two is gone, and
- 10:45Speaker 2: what are they doing down there?
- 10:46Speaker 4: McDaniel I The AFC East is always a thing.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Yeah, it sure is. And fortunately they have the Jets
- 10:52Speaker 3: and they get the Jets to get too well. One man,
- 10:56Speaker 3: that's for what you said about Pittsburgh. Eleven thirty. We'll
- 10:59Speaker 3: readbacker the text four nine five one on the Koma
- 11:01Speaker 3: Dodge text line for nine four five.
- 11:03Speaker 2: When we do that, eleven thirty in Fornessel Joys to
- 11:06Speaker 2: talk about what he's got going on from.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Twelve until three. Everyone in the city is roasting.
- 11:11Speaker 2: In the Northwest or anyone who's ever watched baseball pretty
- 11:14Speaker 2: much roasting. Dan Wilson prover used his relievers last night.
- 11:17Speaker 2: I mean, we'll get to that. Munyos in the ninth
- 11:20Speaker 2: and the triple a pitcher in the tenth, and they
- 11:23Speaker 2: ran out of pitchers again because of the six man rotation.
- 11:25Speaker 3: We'll talk about that again.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Most of that is the are the rules that Jerry
- 11:32Speaker 2: Depoto has set for him. He wouldn't have a job
- 11:34Speaker 2: if he didn't follow him Dan Wilson, so he's following him.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Pitcher can't pitch and second inning after finishing a first
- 11:41Speaker 2: forever through eight pitches. Last night in the sixth, enningdjustment
- 11:43Speaker 2: eight and couldn't come out for the next ending because
- 11:47Speaker 2: of these rules. We'll talk about that. The manager lost
- 11:50Speaker 2: the game last night in the top of the tenth.
- 11:53Speaker 2: He out foxed himself. Should have been don Canzone, who
- 11:56Speaker 2: had a really bad night, especially in the clutch. His
- 11:59Speaker 2: new job is the deep full time DH. Apparently he's
- 12:01Speaker 2: not going to platoon anymore. They put him in the
- 12:03Speaker 2: three spot and it was just too awful at bats
- 12:07Speaker 2: with the game on the line when runners on base late.
- 12:09Speaker 3: In the game.
- 12:10Speaker 2: So he was the last out of the ninth, so
- 12:12Speaker 2: he was supposed to be the ghost runner to begin
- 12:14Speaker 2: the tenth. Well, Ken Zone is not exactly a speed merchant, right,
- 12:18Speaker 2: So they take out dom Canzone, they bring in Weston Wilson. Nobody,
- 12:24Speaker 2: I mean nobody was talking about west and Wilson in
- 12:26Speaker 2: spring training as a factor in this team. No, certainly
- 12:29Speaker 2: not in the tenth inning as the winning run. But
- 12:32Speaker 2: here comes Weston Wilson as the ghost runner. First pitch,
- 12:35Speaker 2: Cal Rawley, we saw it a chopper to short. My son,
- 12:40Speaker 2: now twenty three, a soccer player in college, played baseball
- 12:43Speaker 2: until he's about fourteen or so, and we talked about
- 12:46Speaker 2: multiple sports yesterday. As soon as the ball was hit,
- 12:49Speaker 2: he goes, oh my when he saw Wilson take off.
- 12:54Speaker 2: The cardinal rule of being a runner at second in
- 12:57Speaker 2: less than two outs is you don't run when the
- 13:00Speaker 2: hit is in front of you, when you can see
- 13:02Speaker 2: the seams of the baseball, don't run.
- 13:04Speaker 4: I mean, I'm sorry. I played softball growing up.
- 13:07Speaker 2: I know that that exactly. It's a ruling stickball, I
- 13:11Speaker 2: think kickball has that rule. If that's why the hitters
- 13:15Speaker 2: are supposed to be hitting to the opposite field behind you. Now,
- 13:18Speaker 2: Kyle Rawley's right hit at batter is not going to
- 13:20Speaker 2: hit it to the opposit field that situation. He's trying
- 13:22Speaker 2: to pull the ball and get a hit. But that's
- 13:25Speaker 2: why you try, at the very least as a hitter
- 13:27Speaker 2: ru hit it to the right side, because you know
- 13:29Speaker 2: the runner can then advance because the infielder is not
- 13:31Speaker 2: gonna throw it across the infield to try to get
- 13:33Speaker 2: a non force out play at third base in that situation.
- 13:35Speaker 3: So but of course he's.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Gonna throw at the third when the runner's taken off
- 13:39Speaker 2: from second. That was the easiest six to five put
- 13:43Speaker 2: out you'll ever see. I mean, I thought Wilson, I
- 13:48Speaker 2: thought it was so bad. I thought he was gonna
- 13:49Speaker 2: turn around and run back the second because he was
- 13:51Speaker 2: out by so much.
- 13:53Speaker 3: You just can't do that. I mean, I don't care
- 13:56Speaker 3: if he's a triple A player. You can't do that.
- 13:58Speaker 2: And I would bench a high school air of mind
- 14:00Speaker 2: for that. You just we talk about that all the time.
- 14:03Speaker 2: If you see, if you can see in front of
- 14:06Speaker 2: you a ground ball, you don't advance at second base.
- 14:10Speaker 3: You just stand there. That was Greg, You.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Sound frustrated, But that situation because they and we talked
- 14:19Speaker 2: to Gary Hill Junior about this yes yesterday, and he said, hey,
- 14:21Speaker 2: this is how baseball is. They rely on the home run,
- 14:24Speaker 2: and you can't win in October unless you hit home runs.
- 14:26Speaker 2: They aren't going to get the October if they can't
- 14:28Speaker 2: play just fundamental major league baseball. And you don't I'm
- 14:33Speaker 2: not even talking about hitting the opposite field or fly balls,
- 14:36Speaker 2: a runner at third, lesson two on, all those other
- 14:38Speaker 2: things they don't do. Just don't do that run into
- 14:41Speaker 2: an out as the ghost runner leading off to the inning.
- 14:44Speaker 4: That was, Yeah, that was rough.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Poor Dom Kenzone would not have done that. He's nos,
- 14:50Speaker 2: he's too slow to run the third base in that
- 14:52Speaker 2: situation anyway. But of course, the rule of course is
- 14:57Speaker 2: for those that are saying, well, what should have done?
- 14:59Speaker 2: You cannot advance to you have as seen the ball
- 15:02Speaker 2: it into the outfield grass behind the infielders. If you
- 15:05Speaker 2: are assured that the ball has reached the outfield, it's
- 15:07Speaker 2: the only time you advance on a play in front
- 15:09Speaker 2: of you. And he didn't even do that. He looked
- 15:12Speaker 2: over his right shoulder and watched the shortstop collect the chopper.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Oh my, that was the of all the things that
- 15:19Speaker 2: went bad last night, that was the worst. I mean
- 15:22Speaker 2: by far West and Wilson should be demoted to triple
- 15:26Speaker 2: A for that play alone. He should have been on
- 15:29Speaker 2: a plane before the game was over. That just is inexcusable.
- 15:33Speaker 2: When I used to like covered Major League baseball in
- 15:35Speaker 2: the early two thousand, they used to be a kangaroo
- 15:37Speaker 2: court a the Hudson Molder John B. Moneyball A's had
- 15:40Speaker 2: a kangaroo court, and they find guys for stuff like that.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I don't even know if the players. You didn't allow
- 15:45Speaker 2: them to find anymore. But that cost you by five
- 15:47Speaker 2: hundred dollars or a thousand bucks for doing something like that.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Maybe more as as egregious as that was, ending ruined
- 15:53Speaker 2: bottom ten Michael Rucker, Let's talk about that neck.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Ninety three point three kJ R of.
- 16:02Speaker 2: A Welcome Back to the Funk portion of the show,
- 16:27Speaker 2: Greg Bell, Jesson McIntyre with you ten am the noon
- 16:30Speaker 2: every day on ninety three point three kjarm Dessamond bringing
- 16:33Speaker 2: the Funk out after she just dissed on Pittsburgh to
- 16:36Speaker 2: start the show, still reeling about that.
- 16:39Speaker 3: That's okay, I listen.
- 16:41Speaker 2: I did not like PiZZ I could tell last night
- 16:45Speaker 2: the Marinage threw away another game because they're played by
- 16:48Speaker 2: their own internal rules for using pictures defies what everybody
- 16:52Speaker 2: can see, defies common sense. Jerry Potter sets these rules
- 16:56Speaker 2: general manager. The fact that he's a team president, but
- 16:59Speaker 2: he's basically the GM.
- 17:02Speaker 6: Correct.
- 17:03Speaker 2: But Hollander wouldn't have a job if he didn't listen
- 17:05Speaker 2: to Poto. So manager Dan Wilson carries out these rules.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I talked last week. We talked to Steve Phillips, the
- 17:12Speaker 2: former Mets general manager now on MLB Network.
- 17:15Speaker 3: He was on his way to the studios in Secacas
- 17:16Speaker 3: and he was talking to us.
- 17:17Speaker 2: I asked him about the relationship of a general manager
- 17:20Speaker 2: with a first time benchfield manager in the dugout on
- 17:23Speaker 2: the daily basis.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Here's what he said.
- 17:25Speaker 8: There's a way as a general manager to say, this
- 17:30Speaker 8: is what I think we should do, a piggyback situation
- 17:33Speaker 8: here where I think we're going to manage this everything
- 17:35Speaker 8: right and it's going to be the best thing for
- 17:37Speaker 8: us in the long run.
- 17:38Speaker 3: What do you think?
- 17:39Speaker 8: And it's kind of hard at that point to disagree, right,
- 17:41Speaker 8: So I'm not telling them what to do. I'm telling
- 17:44Speaker 8: them what I think, but I'm portraying it in a
- 17:46Speaker 8: way of this is really what I think we ought
- 17:49Speaker 8: to do.
- 17:50Speaker 3: What do you think?
- 17:51Speaker 8: And so, you know, it's kind of what our wife
- 17:54Speaker 8: tell us in a while, is that you know, your
- 17:57Speaker 8: opinion matters to me only if it agrees with mine.
- 18:00Speaker 6: Uh.
- 18:00Speaker 8: And so like I've lived that, and so you know,
- 18:02Speaker 8: I think that that. You know, I think that that
- 18:06Speaker 8: managing though the regular season with an eye on the postseason,
- 18:11Speaker 8: especially for a team like Seattle, is an important thing
- 18:14Speaker 8: to do. And and I want everybody to be fresh
- 18:17Speaker 8: and healthy and at their best. And I'm I'm not
- 18:20Speaker 8: a fan of shutting a guy down for two weeks
- 18:23Speaker 8: and then starting them up again.
- 18:25Speaker 7: Uh.
- 18:25Speaker 8: And I s don't like that. I think that you
- 18:28Speaker 8: lose the rhythm and everybody loses the rhythm. I would
- 18:31Speaker 8: rather save innings game by game and and uh, situation
- 18:38Speaker 8: by situation as opposed to a shutdown of anybody. So
- 18:42Speaker 8: you know, it's a you know, we always say that
- 18:44Speaker 8: you can't have enough pitching, and then sometimes it's kind
- 18:46Speaker 8: of a problem. But the players need to understand that
- 18:50Speaker 8: the team is trying to do, you know, the front
- 18:53Speaker 8: office and the manager trying to do what they think
- 18:55Speaker 8: is the right thing to win as many games as
- 18:58Speaker 8: possible and to put them in the best situation to
- 19:00Speaker 8: win a World Series. There's no other motive in it.
- 19:04Speaker 8: And so I think players, if they actually have the
- 19:07Speaker 8: right mindset, they can manage it and navigate through any
- 19:12Speaker 8: structure that the team puts in place. If they get
- 19:15Speaker 8: a little selfish and they get a little like, well,
- 19:18Speaker 8: I need this for me and I need that for me,
- 19:20Speaker 8: then it becomes a problem.
- 19:22Speaker 2: I know this.
- 19:23Speaker 8: The Dodgers go with the six man rotation and nobody's
- 19:26Speaker 8: whining there right, nobody's whining and working through it. They
- 19:31Speaker 8: just they find a way because they want they have
- 19:33Speaker 8: about Tani and the yellow Moto. They try to protect
- 19:35Speaker 8: their arms, and everybody seems okay with it. But in
- 19:38Speaker 8: other places when they're not as good as what the
- 19:41Speaker 8: Dodgers have, people have a problem with it. And so
- 19:43Speaker 8: I don't get that.
- 19:46Speaker 2: That was Steve Phillips last week to us on the
- 19:48Speaker 2: show from a Mets general manager and now MLB network analyst,
- 19:53Speaker 2: And this brings the issue of a short bullpen when
- 19:57Speaker 2: you go to the sixth man rotation in the piggyback.
- 19:59Speaker 2: What it's now evolved to a six man rotation. They've
- 20:02Speaker 2: taken one fewer guy out of the bullpen. Major League
- 20:04Speaker 2: Baseball rules, as you knew, roster rules, their twenty six
- 20:07Speaker 2: man roster cannot have more than thirteen.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Pitchers on it. This happened.
- 20:11Speaker 2: This came up again last night. Because you're carrying six pitchers,
- 20:15Speaker 2: you had one fewer arm in the bullpen, which is
- 20:18Speaker 2: why it all ended up the way it did with
- 20:20Speaker 2: Michael Rucker on the mount in.
- 20:22Speaker 3: The tenth inning. But how did they get there?
- 20:25Speaker 2: Well, as soon as Wu left after five innings, he's
- 20:29Speaker 2: down four to nothing, gave up nine hits and four
- 20:31Speaker 2: runs in five innings. As I mentioned earlier, you knew
- 20:34Speaker 2: there's gonna be trouble even if the offense came back right,
- 20:37Speaker 2: because now they've got to cover the rest of the game.
- 20:41Speaker 2: The sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth. They if you do
- 20:43Speaker 2: rally with a bullpen, that's down an arm, just by
- 20:47Speaker 2: the rules of how the Mariners have decided to play
- 20:50Speaker 2: the six man rotation, so.
- 20:51Speaker 3: They bring Ferrera in in the sixth Earlier, Okay, trying
- 20:57Speaker 3: to call back in the game.
- 20:58Speaker 2: You're gonna bring Ferrer in a four of But he
- 21:00Speaker 2: pitched eight pitches in a perfect sixth inning. Remember they
- 21:04Speaker 2: have a rule that if the pitcher comes in, he
- 21:06Speaker 2: should start an ending. A reliever has to start an ending,
- 21:08Speaker 2: and he can't start a second inning. They don't want
- 21:11Speaker 2: to come in the middle of an ending, and they
- 21:13Speaker 2: don't want him to sit down, rest and come back
- 21:15Speaker 2: out for another ending because his arm will fall off.
- 21:18Speaker 3: So eight pitches for Ferrera, he's out because of these rules.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Remember he was the closer for the Washington Nationals last year.
- 21:25Speaker 2: I think he can handle more than eight pitches and
- 21:27Speaker 2: coming out for a second am but no, those are
- 21:28Speaker 2: the rules.
- 21:28Speaker 3: So he's out.
- 21:30Speaker 2: So Bizardo comes in perfect seventh. But oh, he threw
- 21:33Speaker 2: seventeen pitches. Both arms will fall off. You throw seventeen
- 21:37Speaker 2: pitches and try to come out for a second inning.
- 21:38Speaker 3: So he's out. So now you're in the eighth. Well,
- 21:41Speaker 3: the top of the eighth, the ridiculous top of the eighth.
- 21:43Speaker 2: The second basement interferes with Naylor as he rounds first
- 21:46Speaker 2: on a single an RBI and then they get a
- 21:48Speaker 2: that's a base and there's a wild pitch that scores
- 21:51Speaker 2: another rndom Mariners somehow take the lead five to four
- 21:54Speaker 2: over the Marlins. So now they had the lead, and
- 21:57Speaker 2: what they have left in the bullpen is Moon some
- 22:00Speaker 2: two triple A pitchers. Now you can make the case
- 22:04Speaker 2: that for the ninth you should have Munos because you're
- 22:10Speaker 2: trying to make sure it doesn't get the X strings.
- 22:12Speaker 2: But if you haven't scored the top of the ninth,
- 22:15Speaker 2: there's no safe situation there. If you bring in Rutger
- 22:18Speaker 2: in the ninth, you're not even gonna get to the tenth.
- 22:21Speaker 2: So I get why they brought in Munos there. Munos
- 22:24Speaker 2: throws ten pitches in the ninth.
- 22:25Speaker 4: I didn't think that was a bad move.
- 22:28Speaker 2: I don't either, because if you don't, you have two
- 22:30Speaker 2: triple A pitchers, Dodel who has been good and Rucker,
- 22:35Speaker 2: who's been not, and that's it. It's either him, those
- 22:39Speaker 2: two are Munos. So if you don't go to Munho's there,
- 22:42Speaker 2: you're not evenna get to the tenth because the Marlins
- 22:44Speaker 2: will scoring the ninth.
- 22:45Speaker 3: And games over. So I get that.
- 22:47Speaker 2: But in these extenuating situations, six man rotation one fewer,
- 22:52Speaker 2: you've already used your leverage, dudes, Matt Brash on the IL,
- 22:56Speaker 2: Carlos Vargas hasn't.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Even pitched this year. Can you bet the rules a
- 23:00Speaker 3: little bit?
- 23:01Speaker 2: And then beyond ten pitches, Munios throws ten pitches in
- 23:04Speaker 2: a perfect ninth. We've watched him throw more than ten
- 23:06Speaker 2: pitches before. But again, the rule is, you can't start
- 23:09Speaker 2: a new ending, even if that inning is the game
- 23:11Speaker 2: is going to be decided with a ghost runner at
- 23:13Speaker 2: second and scoring position to begin the inning. So let's
- 23:17Speaker 2: follow our rules to a t and don't bring Munio's
- 23:20Speaker 2: out for the top of the tenth, and let's bring
- 23:22Speaker 2: in Michael Rucker with the winning run at second base
- 23:24Speaker 2: and nobody out in the tenth inning. That was almost
- 23:30Speaker 2: as dumb as Wilson running the third on the ground
- 23:33Speaker 2: ball in front of him. They're having it both ways.
- 23:37Speaker 2: They went this six man rotation with one fewer bullpen
- 23:40Speaker 2: arm and they want to stick to these rules. Phillips
- 23:43Speaker 2: was talking about the sixth man rotation in another segment
- 23:45Speaker 2: of that talk we had last week Steve Phillips, and
- 23:48Speaker 2: I asked him, well, how long can you do this?
- 23:50Speaker 2: You can just run the sixth ma rotation all the
- 23:52Speaker 2: way to the playoffs, and he said, no.
- 23:54Speaker 3: You got to put Castill in the bullpen.
- 23:58Speaker 4: Yeah, he was. He was pretty adamant about two.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Yes, very adamant. Forget his feelings, twenty four million dollar whatever.
- 24:06Speaker 3: He's your sixth best starter. And oh, by the way,
- 24:09Speaker 3: Kate Anderson, bring him up.
- 24:11Speaker 2: That's what Steve Phillips said, and put all your horses
- 24:14Speaker 2: into the staff and then sort it out. If Kate
- 24:17Speaker 2: Anderson and Luis Castier in your bullpen, so what And
- 24:20Speaker 2: as Chuck mentioned on my drive in this morning, if
- 24:23Speaker 2: you have Louise Castillo in the bullpen and not a
- 24:25Speaker 2: six marotation, he can pitch the tenth or he can pitch.
- 24:29Speaker 3: The sixth to seventh and the eighth. So then you
- 24:31Speaker 3: got everybody available with the game on the line.
- 24:33Speaker 7: Yeah, you have a thoroughbred who's available to close out
- 24:37Speaker 7: an inning.
- 24:37Speaker 3: That's fine.
- 24:38Speaker 7: I just and I don't think he has a tremendous ego.
- 24:42Speaker 7: I don't think he's sensitive.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Does he or doesn't he? Because it's hard.
- 24:47Speaker 2: He's a great clubhouse dude and a very popular and
- 24:50Speaker 2: that plays into it. Two, I still submit the marriage
- 24:53Speaker 2: don't want to put him in the bullpen because they're
- 24:54Speaker 2: trying to trade him, and if you put him in
- 24:56Speaker 2: the bullpen, you can't trade him, not with that salary
- 25:00Speaker 2: and a contract that has a yeah eight take. You
- 25:04Speaker 2: were telling the rest of the Major League Baseball he's
- 25:06Speaker 2: not even good enough for our rotation, yet we want
- 25:08Speaker 2: you to trade for him. And oh, by the way,
- 25:10Speaker 2: he's making twenty four million. So they're keeping him in
- 25:13Speaker 2: the rotation as a starter, a higher profile chip to trade.
- 25:17Speaker 2: But that's gonna end August third with the trade deadline.
- 25:20Speaker 2: So eventually, what are they gonna do with If they
- 25:23Speaker 2: don't trade him, they're gonna keep him in a sixth
- 25:26Speaker 2: man rotation. They're going to play a man down in
- 25:28Speaker 2: the bullpen like this again. Or if you have Castel
- 25:31Speaker 2: in the bullpen, he pitches the sixth, seventh, and eighth
- 25:34Speaker 2: while you come back into the game. Right then you
- 25:38Speaker 2: got Spire, you got Munos, you got Bizardo, and you
- 25:42Speaker 2: got Ferrara.
- 25:43Speaker 3: For the entirety of the game, if.
- 25:45Speaker 2: It went fourteen innings, which it never does anymore, you
- 25:47Speaker 2: would have still enough arms if you did that.
- 25:50Speaker 3: But because they're trying to make sure one they don't.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Tick off Louis Castillo and all the guys in the
- 25:54Speaker 2: clubous who love him, and two they keep his trade
- 25:56Speaker 2: value high.
- 25:57Speaker 3: He stays in the rotation.
- 26:00Speaker 6: And you get this.
- 26:01Speaker 3: So the long term plan of keeping the pitchers healthy
- 26:04Speaker 3: and their arms healthy. Okay, I get it. I know
- 26:07Speaker 3: why they're doing this, and I do.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Think there's these ancilliary ideas of the trademarket value of
- 26:13Speaker 2: Lewis kissed you and his feelings. But damn, don't you
- 26:17Speaker 2: need to start winning games now so that you don't
- 26:19Speaker 2: have to go to the wire in September. If they
- 26:21Speaker 2: just win these games now, they're gonna win the Aos
- 26:23Speaker 2: by ten games.
- 26:24Speaker 4: I mean, we saw it last year.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Sucks.
- 26:28Speaker 2: All they need to do is win three or four
- 26:30Speaker 2: in a row and suddenly they have a two or
- 26:31Speaker 2: three game lead. We've seen it twice or three times
- 26:34Speaker 2: in the last month.
- 26:35Speaker 3: They lose three in a row. Boom, they're back to
- 26:37Speaker 3: game and a half or a half game up.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Just win the games now instead of punting in giving
- 26:42Speaker 2: away because these stupid rules. Then when you're ten games
- 26:45Speaker 2: up in mid September, rest those pictures.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Then you don't have to pitch anybody.
- 26:49Speaker 7: You're coming up with a slogan, and it's called win
- 26:52Speaker 7: now when the Nike you could have just do it,
- 26:56Speaker 7: but we want win now, let's.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Put the pitchers in the wins on layaway for September.
- 27:01Speaker 3: What what kind of that's what they're doing.
- 27:05Speaker 7: I know.
- 27:07Speaker 2: They could win the division right now if they wouldn't
- 27:09Speaker 2: give away these games.
- 27:11Speaker 4: I have a question. Do you become more passionate with
- 27:13Speaker 4: the frustration of a team?
- 27:15Speaker 3: Yes, me too, don't you. Yeah?
- 27:17Speaker 2: I think our listeners do too. They would not we'd
- 27:21Speaker 2: be chilling if they're up ten games right now in
- 27:23Speaker 2: the division.
- 27:23Speaker 4: Dude, I grew up Matt's Jets Islanders.
- 27:25Speaker 7: Okay, so frustration is my middle name when it comes
- 27:28Speaker 7: to my sports fanhood. But here I and we don't
- 27:33Speaker 7: wish for this frustration. However, I am definitely more passionate
- 27:38Speaker 7: because of the frustration.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Here's the other thing that you're and everybody else listening
- 27:42Speaker 3: to this show is frustrated by fifty years of not
- 27:45Speaker 3: being of the World Series.
- 27:47Speaker 4: That little guy.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean that's serious. I mean that's serious, excellent.
- 27:52Speaker 7: Especially when you could taste it last year. I think
- 27:55Speaker 7: that delves you a little bit farther into it.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Fans of the Mayors have every right to be critiquing, jaded, cynical,
- 28:03Speaker 2: all of it. They have earned that right, especially the
- 28:06Speaker 2: ones who paid season tickets since the Kingdom was up. Yeah,
- 28:09Speaker 2: you deserve to be ticked. And when they just pun
- 28:11Speaker 2: away games because of these stupid rules, they're stupid.
- 28:14Speaker 3: I mean they are.
- 28:15Speaker 2: They're trying to preserve because of analytics and studies on
- 28:18Speaker 2: arms and all these other things. Win the damn games now,
- 28:21Speaker 2: so you can be ten games up in mid September
- 28:23Speaker 2: and rest them then and bring up Kate Anderson and
- 28:26Speaker 2: bring up all these dudes and have a stacked pitching
- 28:28Speaker 2: roster for the September drive and then you don't have
- 28:31Speaker 2: to pitch anybody because you've clinched the division on September fifteenth.
- 28:34Speaker 3: What's wrong with that plan?
- 28:35Speaker 2: The division is so bad that if you just don't
- 28:38Speaker 2: give away these games, now, you're walking away with the title,
- 28:42Speaker 2: walking away.
- 28:42Speaker 3: With this roster.
- 28:43Speaker 4: I would love to see another What are those banners
- 28:46Speaker 4: hung up? Yeah?
- 28:47Speaker 7: And I mean can we just also? The people are
- 28:51Speaker 7: showing up. I have been to Tuesday night Wednesday night games.
- 28:55Speaker 7: The fans are out and proud, and I think that
- 28:58Speaker 7: is a little bit of takeover from last season, where
- 29:02Speaker 7: obviously the excitement was strong, but oh no.
- 29:04Speaker 4: It's nice. It is packed.
- 29:07Speaker 7: People are very excited about this team, and that is
- 29:09Speaker 7: also something you have to capitalize on. I mean, we're
- 29:13Speaker 7: talking about the technicalities of the team, the pitching staff
- 29:17Speaker 7: and everything and what we're doing with the lineup, but
- 29:21Speaker 7: capitalize on the fans.
- 29:23Speaker 3: They deserve it. They do.
- 29:26Speaker 2: They don't deserve a five hundred team with this roster.
- 29:28Speaker 2: They don't deserve a half game lead in division. That
- 29:30Speaker 2: is just putrid. They don't. They don't. They pay a
- 29:34Speaker 2: lot of money. They pay seventy five dollars the park.
- 29:36Speaker 2: They'd pay twenty dollars for beers. They deserve a team
- 29:39Speaker 2: with this talent and this roster and this pitching staff
- 29:42Speaker 2: to be up by fifteen games already.
- 29:44Speaker 3: They deserve that. That's this hell. I wrote a story
- 29:48Speaker 3: in the News Tribute on opening.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Day from the press box after hearing John Schneider on
- 29:51Speaker 2: this station say health willing we should compete for a
- 29:55Speaker 2: World Series this year. He said that on March twenty
- 29:58Speaker 2: sixth or whatever, Opening Day. I wrote my whole story
- 30:02Speaker 2: about it. I talked to fans about it. I talked
- 30:03Speaker 2: to Brian Woo about it.
- 30:05Speaker 3: This talk of World Series.
- 30:06Speaker 4: Snyder.
- 30:07Speaker 2: John Stanton at the CEO, thought I thought you did
- 30:10Speaker 2: I misspeak and said Snyder, yeah you did.
- 30:12Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 30:12Speaker 2: If it's John Stanton, the CEO of the Mariners on
- 30:16Speaker 2: kJ R on the opening day with SOFTI said, health willing,
- 30:20Speaker 2: which is always the variable, and they haven't had the health,
- 30:24Speaker 2: but health willing. We should compete for the World Series
- 30:26Speaker 2: this year. I wrote the story it's the news Tribute
- 30:28Speaker 2: dot com. I talked to Brian Woo about it. I
- 30:31Speaker 2: talked to fans in the stands about it, and World
- 30:34Speaker 2: Series is what they were talking about day one. And
- 30:36Speaker 2: here we are one game over five hundred in the
- 30:38Speaker 2: division that is absolutely putrid. They're going to win the division.
- 30:42Speaker 2: They still are, but why not win it now in July?
- 30:46Speaker 2: Just boat race everybody so that by September you can
- 30:49Speaker 2: rest all your pitches and rearrange everything you want and
- 30:51Speaker 2: have your rotation set for the playoffs. Instead, they're playing
- 30:55Speaker 2: by these rules to preserve their pictures for September and October.
- 30:58Speaker 2: To make it when there's a race, you shouldn't being.
- 31:00Speaker 2: There shouldn't be a Pennant race in Seattle on September
- 31:03Speaker 2: this year. They should be boat racing everybody in the
- 31:05Speaker 2: West and win it by ten games.
- 31:07Speaker 3: So there is no preserving the picture. You don't need to.
- 31:11Speaker 4: When now, yeah, when now, Okay, I'm gonna make a flyer.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Win now, don't win, don't preserve for the future. Win now.
- 31:21Speaker 3: The future will take care of itself.
- 31:23Speaker 4: Craig, I'm really feeling your passion. I don't know, I
- 31:26Speaker 4: like it a lot.
- 31:27Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 31:27Speaker 2: I just was watching the game, going this is just ridiculous.
- 31:30Speaker 2: These rules are just so Yeah, you can blame Wilson,
- 31:33Speaker 2: but he's handcuffed. When he has munos and two triple
- 31:37Speaker 2: A pitchers, what's he gonna do? Put Castille and the
- 31:42Speaker 2: bullpen have him pitch six, seven and eight. Well, you
- 31:44Speaker 2: get back in the game, and then you got the
- 31:46Speaker 2: whole damn bullpen available for the ninth, tenth, eleventh, and when,
- 31:49Speaker 2: however long it goes anyway, four nine, four five one.
- 31:53Speaker 2: I see some of you commenting about this, some of
- 31:55Speaker 2: you agreeing with me, some of you not.
- 31:57Speaker 4: Well, we like that dichotomy here on this show.
- 32:00Speaker 2: We will play that back at eleven thirty up next
- 32:02Speaker 2: something else. I'm fired up about the youth development system
- 32:05Speaker 2: of soccer. In this country. We talked about it yesterday.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Alexi Lawas chimed in about it's a product of this system.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Landon Donovan, one of the best examples of this system,
- 32:15Speaker 2: chimed in about it two Landon Donovan, I think alike,
- 32:18Speaker 2: you're gonna hear from that next ninety three point three
- 32:20Speaker 2: KJRFM Welcome back, Greg Bellen, Jesson McIntyre with you. Was
- 32:55Speaker 2: there every weekday ten to noon on ninety three point
- 32:58Speaker 2: three kJ R Hello friends, I jes Hello Seattle, Hope,
- 33:04Speaker 2: Pacific Northwest, or wherever you might be listening to the
- 33:06Speaker 2: iHeartRadio app or our website ninety three kjar dot com.
- 33:11Speaker 2: ESPN wrote a story yesterday's detailing that it didn't matter
- 33:14Speaker 2: who the coach of the US men's national team was,
- 33:16Speaker 2: they weren't going to win because their players.
- 33:18Speaker 4: Weren't good enough well, they did not play well.
- 33:22Speaker 6: Well.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Their players aren't good enough because of where the players
- 33:24Speaker 2: come from. How do they get the players in the
- 33:27Speaker 2: United States. There's a root, grassroot problem that we talked
- 33:32Speaker 2: about yesterday. The pay for play system in youth soccer,
- 33:36Speaker 2: youth sports in general, but in you soccer we're talking
- 33:38Speaker 2: about here.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Is broken. It's greed.
- 33:42Speaker 2: It's so that coaches and administrators get paid. It's that
- 33:45Speaker 2: hotels get paid, and tournaments get paid. And as I mentioned,
- 33:50Speaker 2: fifteen twenty thousand dollars a year to get on the
- 33:53Speaker 2: level to be even looked at by a national program,
- 33:56Speaker 2: to even possibly make a national team. And I'm talking
- 33:58Speaker 2: like under seventeen teams, under fourteen teams on the national
- 34:02Speaker 2: level ODP all this stuff. You can't even get a
- 34:05Speaker 2: sniff of that door until you have paid the money
- 34:08Speaker 2: to pay for club teams that have access to that stuff.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Alexi Lawless, the former US national World Cup soccer players
- 34:15Speaker 2: my age, he's mid fifties now, yesterday posted online his
- 34:18Speaker 2: assertion that there's nothing wrong with the way the Americans
- 34:21Speaker 2: pay for play system is in soccer and how it
- 34:23Speaker 2: creates a national team. All us posted online quote, you
- 34:27Speaker 2: soccer and use sports as a competitive market, with businesses
- 34:30Speaker 2: selling a product that obviously customers are willing to pay for.
- 34:34Speaker 2: You want to tell men and women who make their
- 34:35Speaker 2: living and use soccer that they need to make less.
- 34:38Speaker 3: It's a business.
- 34:39Speaker 2: I want them to make as much money for their
- 34:41Speaker 2: service as the market will pay them. If they can
- 34:43Speaker 2: make a ton of money, then they should and I'll
- 34:45Speaker 2: celebrate it.
- 34:47Speaker 3: And that is the thinking.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Is why the United States doesn't get passed around to
- 34:51Speaker 2: sixteen because nobody, not one chuck in Europe thinks that way.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Not one guy in Belgium, not one gallon Britain, nobody
- 35:00Speaker 2: in Germany, nobody in Spain, nobody in France, nobody anywhere
- 35:03Speaker 2: Brazil thinks like that. How American is that? Land And
- 35:10Speaker 2: Donovan is one of the shining examples of this system.
- 35:13Speaker 3: He made it.
- 35:14Speaker 2: He played in the World Cup, he played in the
- 35:16Speaker 2: top German Bundesliga, he played for Bayron Munich for a spell.
- 35:21Speaker 3: He made it. He was my guy.
- 35:23Speaker 2: He tied Colen Dempsey for the most international goals by
- 35:26Speaker 2: an American male. Here's Landon Donovan on the Late Run
- 35:30Speaker 2: with Ocho Sinkle podcast that posted yesterday.
- 35:32Speaker 9: So there was a study that this is actually in
- 35:34Speaker 9: twenty sixteen. I'm sure it's gotten worse, like the GAP's
- 35:36Speaker 9: gotten bigger. Right, There was a study in twenty sixteen
- 35:39Speaker 9: of all the kids playing youth soccer. They took you know,
- 35:43Speaker 9: let's just make up a number. Let's say it was
- 35:44Speaker 9: a million kids, right, and they broke down percentage wise,
- 35:49Speaker 9: what the household income was of those kids. Okay, so
- 35:53Speaker 9: the majority of the kids fell in their parents' household
- 35:57Speaker 9: income was like one hundred to one hundred and fifty thousand.
- 36:01Speaker 9: Only two percent of kids who were playing organized soccer
- 36:05Speaker 9: in America came from households that made less than fifty
- 36:08Speaker 9: thousand dollars. Meaning if you don't make fifty thousand dollars,
- 36:12Speaker 9: your kid cannot play organized soccer. And think about how
- 36:15Speaker 9: many kids you're missing out on in this country because
- 36:19Speaker 9: they can't afford to play the game. Now, this is
- 36:22Speaker 9: the other thing. Somebody has to pay for it. Someone
- 36:24Speaker 9: has to pay for the coaches. I get it right,
- 36:27Speaker 9: But what's happening now is clubs are just grinding every
- 36:32Speaker 9: penny out of every and the growing up, there is
- 36:36Speaker 9: zero chance I could have played club soccer. My mom
- 36:38Speaker 9: made thirty four thousand dollars a year, single mom, raising
- 36:41Speaker 9: three kids. She couldn't pay four thousand dollars for me
- 36:44Speaker 9: to play clubs. Are you kidding? She couldn't pay four
- 36:46Speaker 9: hundred dollars, So I would have had zero chance. But
- 36:49Speaker 9: somebody let me on the team and paid for me.
- 36:51Speaker 9: Otherwise I couldn't know. That's not a good system to
- 36:53Speaker 9: create good players. How do you create good players by
- 36:55Speaker 9: doing that? You can't.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 37:00Speaker 2: It makes sense if you are excluding anyone who's not
- 37:04Speaker 2: fifty thousand dollars a year or more as a parent,
- 37:07Speaker 2: you aren't including it. The world's the country's best players,
- 37:11Speaker 2: the best soccer players.
- 37:12Speaker 7: No, it's like we talked about yesterday, just you know,
- 37:16Speaker 7: kids just playing with rocks.
- 37:18Speaker 4: You know that doesn't You don't need to be some
- 37:21Speaker 4: polished shin Guard sponsored student athlete.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Here's what else you don't need to be, jess when
- 37:27Speaker 2: the best athlete? I had how many texts yesterday saying
- 37:31Speaker 2: the best athletes in our country don't play soccer. You
- 37:33Speaker 2: don't need to be the best athlete to play. Lionel
- 37:36Speaker 2: Messi is not the best athlete even on Argentina's team,
- 37:39Speaker 2: yet he's the world's best player. I mean, seriously, is
- 37:44Speaker 2: Harry Kane the best athlete you've ever seen?
- 37:46Speaker 1: No?
- 37:47Speaker 4: I mean we watched the NFL all the time.
- 37:49Speaker 2: So they're not six four two thirty five and run
- 37:52Speaker 2: four three forties, right, they don't have forty five inch vertical,
- 37:55Speaker 2: they're not dk metcal. These aren't the best athletes in
- 37:58Speaker 2: our country.
- 37:58Speaker 3: They don't need to be.
- 37:59Speaker 2: They need to be the best at what they do,
- 38:01Speaker 2: which is play soccer and be lateral movement and hand
- 38:06Speaker 2: foot night coordination and dexterity and agility and short burst running.
- 38:10Speaker 2: They don't need to be the best athletes. So that
- 38:13Speaker 2: argument to me is like watch MESSI and tell me
- 38:16Speaker 2: about the best athlete. You don't need to be the
- 38:18Speaker 2: best athlete to play. That argument just gets set aside.
- 38:22Speaker 4: I mean, most skilled is an argument, of course.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Yes, any sport you have to be skilled at. A
- 38:29Speaker 2: basketball player, if you can't shoot, he's not gonna be
- 38:31Speaker 2: a good basketball player. Of course, so a soccer player.
- 38:34Speaker 2: There are skilled soccer players who don't play for the
- 38:37Speaker 2: national team because they can't afford it. Their dudes who
- 38:40Speaker 2: kick the ball around in Nathan Hale or at Roosevelt
- 38:44Speaker 2: right next to my I see it all the time.
- 38:46Speaker 3: The lights stay on.
- 38:47Speaker 2: At Roosevelt in the spring and summer so that the
- 38:49Speaker 2: kids can play, and they kick the ball around, and
- 38:52Speaker 2: they're dudes who could run circles around guys who we
- 38:54Speaker 2: are on club teams.
- 38:55Speaker 3: I know it because I paid it and saw it.
- 38:57Speaker 3: But they don't play because they can't afford it.
- 38:59Speaker 2: My son all kinds of teammates growing up who played
- 39:02Speaker 2: for Roosevelt, who played for LVR or Green Lake or whatever,
- 39:09Speaker 2: who never played club soccer because they couldn't afford it,
- 39:12Speaker 2: who were better than players on his club soccer team.
- 39:14Speaker 2: I know they were, and my son would say it
- 39:16Speaker 2: all the time, Damn, I wish so, so and so
- 39:19Speaker 2: could play for us, he'd be great.
- 39:22Speaker 3: That's what's wrong.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Eleanna Donovan nails it, and Wallas is part of the
- 39:26Speaker 2: problem of saying, lets everyone profit from this.
- 39:29Speaker 3: What is the goal of youth sports to.
- 39:31Speaker 4: Be of business?
- 39:33Speaker 7: Yeah, that's what he specifically said, is that it's a
- 39:36Speaker 7: business or to develop athletes and character.
- 39:41Speaker 2: And everywhere else in the world a youth sports program
- 39:44Speaker 2: is to develop the best players in the best people.
- 39:48Speaker 3: Here's the other thing.
- 39:49Speaker 2: In Europe and in South America, they don't have university sports.
- 39:54Speaker 2: College sports is not a thing. So there's no goal
- 39:57Speaker 2: for those great soccer players in German or Spain or
- 40:00Speaker 2: to be a college soccer player unless some US coach
- 40:03Speaker 2: comes poaches them, which we talked about yesterday too. Yes,
- 40:06Speaker 2: but they go to pro teams who pay for them
- 40:10Speaker 2: to play for them. When they're fourteen twelve eleven years old.
- 40:13Speaker 2: What are US kids doing at fourteen, twelve eleven years old,
- 40:15Speaker 2: forking over fifteen thousand dollars a year to get that opportunity.
- 40:18Speaker 2: It's beast awkwards. It's exactly opposite of what the world's
- 40:22Speaker 2: best programs do. It's it's crazy to me that people
- 40:26Speaker 2: are okay with the profit market, profit and maximizing capitalism
- 40:31Speaker 2: is okay, and youth sports not there.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Not there.
- 40:34Speaker 7: It started when I was growing up with AAA, absolutely yes, and.
- 40:37Speaker 10: I was like, AAU is one of the cheaper ones.
- 40:40Speaker 10: These sneakers and AAU is one of the cheaper ones.
- 40:42Speaker 10: They were just kind of like the first in. But
- 40:44Speaker 10: they still are relatively cheap compared to other sports. I
- 40:47Speaker 10: know hockey, I know baseball.
- 40:49Speaker 8: I hear you.
- 40:49Speaker 3: It's it's not just soccer.
- 40:52Speaker 2: But the goal everywhere else in the world is to
- 40:54Speaker 2: produce a national program of athletes who can help you win.
- 40:58Speaker 2: The goal in the United States is produce a national
- 41:00Speaker 2: system of youth sports that help you get paid. Here's
- 41:04Speaker 2: the other thing. College sports exist like they do on
- 41:07Speaker 2: this level in the United States. Why because of money,
- 41:10Speaker 2: because of television revenue, especially now because of television resume revenue,
- 41:15Speaker 2: and the schools, the NCAA, the college presidents, the money
- 41:18Speaker 2: they make from and on television because of our insatiable
- 41:21Speaker 2: appetite for football.
- 41:22Speaker 7: We're gonna have to get my dad on the show
- 41:24Speaker 7: because he will break this down exactly.
- 41:27Speaker 2: That is why the difference between the European soccer player
- 41:31Speaker 2: at the age eleven and twelve and the American soccer
- 41:33Speaker 2: player at eleven and twelve.
- 41:34Speaker 3: My son said, I want to be a college soccer player.
- 41:38Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 41:38Speaker 3: What are you going to tell that kid?
- 41:40Speaker 7: Right?
- 41:41Speaker 2: As a parent, I know all of you are listening, going,
- 41:43Speaker 2: you're a stupid fool for paying twenty thousand dollars when
- 41:46Speaker 2: your kid was fourteen to play for soccer. I get that,
- 41:49Speaker 2: but we were able to afford it because my wife
- 41:51Speaker 2: is a rock star. But we were able to afford it.
- 41:55Speaker 2: So therefore, what am I going to tell my son? No,
- 41:57Speaker 2: we're gonna go to Hawaii instead and just go on
- 41:59Speaker 2: family vacation instead, We're going to not pay that money
- 42:02Speaker 2: because you're dream.
- 42:03Speaker 3: I'm not going to crush that kid's dream. He had
- 42:05Speaker 3: a goal at age twelve, So I paid it.
- 42:07Speaker 2: If that's how the game was played, I paid it
- 42:10Speaker 2: and he got a college scholarship.
- 42:12Speaker 3: He reached his goal and I paid the money.
- 42:15Speaker 4: Well, I mean that is an investment at that point.
- 42:18Speaker 3: That doesn't make it right, correct, That means that everybody
- 42:21Speaker 3: got paid. Man and Craig.
- 42:24Speaker 4: I'm really liking your fire today.
- 42:26Speaker 3: I didn't sleep well.
- 42:28Speaker 7: Hey, I'm gonna actually call you in the middle of
- 42:30Speaker 7: the night now because this is pretty awesome.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Great Kota Miami Herald at South Florida Institution is going
- 42:36Speaker 2: to talk to us next from South Florida, from Miami,
- 42:38Speaker 2: where the Mariners are on ninety three point three KJRFM,
- 42:45Speaker 2: No from.
- 42:46Speaker 1: The Star Rentals Sports desk Ordan ninety three point three
- 42:49Speaker 1: KJRFM sports headlines.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Good morning head lines are bright to by Frostbury corpse
- 42:54Speaker 2: like choose chill. The Mariners lost last night six five
- 42:57Speaker 2: and a weird ten innings. They ran out of pitchers,
- 43:00Speaker 2: pitched the ninth and tripa a dude, Michael Ruker pitched
- 43:03Speaker 2: the tenth.
- 43:05Speaker 3: I'm done with that.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Texas they won. Ems are half game ahead of the Rangers,
- 43:11Speaker 2: a top the American League West. Game two of the
- 43:13Speaker 2: series today three forty in Miami, three forty our time.
- 43:18Speaker 2: George Kirby gets to start for Seattle the World Cup.
- 43:20Speaker 2: As we detailed yesterday, Lionel Messi is still a football
- 43:22Speaker 2: got He tied the match late after Argentina trailed Egypt
- 43:28Speaker 2: in the round of sixteen knockout two nil in a
- 43:30Speaker 2: seventy ninth minute before yesterday, until Argentina scored three goals
- 43:35Speaker 2: in five six minutes. Well three goals and two goals
- 43:38Speaker 2: in four minutes and then the winner in the ninety
- 43:40Speaker 2: second minute. Lionel Messi tied it two to in the
- 43:43Speaker 2: eighty fourth. In the ninety second they scored added time.
- 43:47Speaker 2: That's the first time ever in World Cup history a
- 43:49Speaker 2: team trailed by multiple goals after the seventy fifth minute
- 43:51Speaker 2: and yet still won. And it happened in a knockout stage.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Argentina and Messi move on. They're just they can't be
- 43:59Speaker 2: beaten apparently. Andris Contour he survived barely. I call yesterday I.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Was all the longest.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Aren't see's gonna play Switzerland because they won on penalty
- 44:13Speaker 2: kicks in Vancouver over Columbia after nil neil tie through
- 44:17Speaker 2: one hundred and twenty minutes. There no World Cup games
- 44:19Speaker 2: today for the first time since it began June eleventh
- 44:22Speaker 2: quarterfinals begin twelve thirty tomorrow right here in ninety three
- 44:24Speaker 2: point three KJFM, France Morocco, Jessman and I Are Show
- 44:28Speaker 2: is going to take you right up to kickoff there
- 44:30Speaker 2: of France Morocco tomorrow outside Boston, US Belgium. Match here
- 44:33Speaker 2: in Seattle Monday averaged forty two million viewers on Fox
- 44:36Speaker 2: and Telemundo, most watched soccer match ever in the United States,
- 44:40Speaker 2: the most watched US sporting event ever on a Monday.
- 44:44Speaker 2: More people watch that match than watch the Divisional round
- 44:47Speaker 2: of the NFL playoffs in January. Rough season as we
- 44:50Speaker 2: know so far for the Storm, but a positive. Twenty
- 44:52Speaker 2: year old center Dominique Malonga was selected to the WNBA
- 44:56Speaker 2: All Star Team. She's the third youngest All Star in
- 44:58Speaker 2: league history. The Seahawks, you know what they're doing. Training
- 45:02Speaker 2: camp is at the end of the month. That's when
- 45:04Speaker 2: my summer ends. July twenty fifth is with the first
- 45:07Speaker 2: day of training camp at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center.
- 45:10Speaker 2: That's about when the Miami Dolphins will get going down
- 45:13Speaker 2: in South Florida. AFC East, the AFC East, Dessamond's Jets,
- 45:19Speaker 2: Greg Cote, the Institution of South Florida, the Miami Herald
- 45:23Speaker 2: columnists for since before Dan Marino was quarterback. I believe
- 45:28Speaker 2: maccatchey brethren of mine. He joined us in the Beacon
- 45:30Speaker 2: Plumbing hotline from South Florida. Hello, Sarah, I'm honored and
- 45:34Speaker 2: glad to have you on the show.
- 45:36Speaker 6: Bye, thank you. I'm glad to be here. What's happening
- 45:38Speaker 6: on your end?
- 45:39Speaker 2: Well, you get the Mariners in your town with too
- 45:43Speaker 2: many starting pitchers and not enough relievers. They have six
- 45:45Speaker 2: starting pitchers and they ran out of relievers last night.
- 45:48Speaker 3: Let me ask you. You said, see the Marlins. Are
- 45:55Speaker 3: they for real? What's the deal going on down there?
- 45:58Speaker 6: Yeah? I wouldn't have said that a month ago, but
- 46:03Speaker 6: they were twenty and six in June, and they continue
- 46:07Speaker 6: to win, and so it's no longer a small sample,
- 46:10Speaker 6: you know, it's like a big sample. They're starting to
- 46:12Speaker 6: hit home runs. They've got three quality starting pitchers, they've
- 46:16Speaker 6: got a couple of all stars. I think they're for real,
- 46:19Speaker 6: which is a shock down here because Bruce Sherman is
- 46:22Speaker 6: the cheapest owner in baseball. He doesn't spend, and we
- 46:27Speaker 6: thought we were headed for another typical you know, seventy
- 46:31Speaker 6: win season or something. But it looks like it looks
- 46:34Speaker 6: like they're going to fight for the playoffs. So it's
- 46:36Speaker 6: a good story down here, but it's been one completely
- 46:39Speaker 6: overshadowed between the World Cup. You know, there's seven matches
- 46:43Speaker 6: in Miami, right and of course you know the Heat
- 46:47Speaker 6: signing Giannis and then now going after Lebron. So the
- 46:50Speaker 6: Marlins have been sort of an afterthought down here. But
- 46:53Speaker 6: they're great. They're they're pretty good, They're they're exciting, you
- 46:56Speaker 6: know what can I tell you? Which is unusual because
- 46:59Speaker 6: I've been a critic of Sherman's for years, but lo
- 47:03Speaker 6: and behold, they're winning with a budget ball approach.
- 47:06Speaker 2: You mentioned the crowded sports market, especially right now with
- 47:09Speaker 2: the World Cup. Messi's played there, Brazil played there. You've
- 47:12Speaker 2: had crazy good matches down there in Miami Gardens. The
- 47:16Speaker 2: Dolphins are always the big thing down there. And then
- 47:18Speaker 2: you just mentioned Giannis to the Heat. Let's start there.
- 47:22Speaker 2: The Lebron James, the decision to taking Mike talents to
- 47:27Speaker 2: South Beach. Do you think he's going to say that
- 47:29Speaker 2: again or do the Heat even need him?
- 47:32Speaker 6: Yeah, they need him right now. They're you know, they
- 47:36Speaker 6: have two good big men, and Giannis and Bam Aebio
- 47:40Speaker 6: a little bit thin. Maybe after that, I think they
- 47:42Speaker 6: can use him. And what's amazing is that when he
- 47:45Speaker 6: first came here in twenty ten, he's just coming into
- 47:49Speaker 6: his prime. At twenty five, sixteen years later, he's a
- 47:52Speaker 6: forty one year old old guy, but still pretty damn great.
- 47:56Speaker 6: So they're definitely going hard after him. And supposedly it's
- 48:00Speaker 6: down to the Heat, the Cavaliers and Philly no longer
- 48:06Speaker 6: Golden State. So if you believe what you read and
- 48:08Speaker 6: here the Dolphins are the run of the Heat, have
- 48:11Speaker 6: a pretty good chance.
- 48:12Speaker 2: I'd say, is pat Riley just going for it because
- 48:15Speaker 2: he's in his eighties now and this is his last
- 48:17Speaker 2: era or what's going on down there?
- 48:20Speaker 6: I think that's part of it. I mean, he's eighty one,
- 48:23Speaker 6: you know. And let's face it, in sports now, particularly
- 48:27Speaker 6: in basketball, there's no such thing as a slow build.
- 48:30Speaker 6: You know, you can if you tank right or if
- 48:33Speaker 6: you get lucky in the draft, you tend to go
- 48:37Speaker 6: from zero to sixty in about a minute and a half.
- 48:40Speaker 6: There's no slow build anymore. So the Heat four years
- 48:44Speaker 6: in the play in Purgatory, are looking to turn it
- 48:47Speaker 6: around really quick. I think they've got a one or
- 48:50Speaker 6: two year window with Giannis and they hope Lebron leading
- 48:55Speaker 6: the way. So we'll see.
- 48:56Speaker 2: For those of us that don't live in South Florida,
- 48:59Speaker 2: how does it ran? The Panthers just are Cup champions
- 49:02Speaker 2: a couple of years ago, and it's still a top team.
- 49:05Speaker 2: But is it still Dolphins one heat too?
- 49:08Speaker 6: Is it?
- 49:08Speaker 2: You mentioned the Marlins are way down the pecking order?
- 49:11Speaker 2: What's the biggest is it? Is it still the Dolphins?
- 49:14Speaker 6: Well, yeah, it's still the Dolphins in terms of overall interests,
- 49:19Speaker 6: although you know, if you include College Miami Hurricanes football
- 49:23Speaker 6: would be you know, that's one in one A because
- 49:26Speaker 6: we continue to be a football town here and of
- 49:29Speaker 6: course um Kanes football just you know, finished second in
- 49:33Speaker 6: the nation. They lost the championship game down here, so
- 49:36Speaker 6: you know, and then the Heat, I would say, come next,
- 49:39Speaker 6: and then the Panthers and Inner Miami are probably grappling
- 49:43Speaker 6: for that other spot. The Marlins, although they're doing very well,
- 49:47Speaker 6: are still sort of an afterthought down here. They don't
- 49:50Speaker 6: draw very well, and frankly, Inner Miami is only as
- 49:55Speaker 6: hot as it is because of Leon old MESSI you know,
- 49:58Speaker 6: he's he's the whole deal down here, So I would
- 50:02Speaker 6: say that would be my pecking order.
- 50:04Speaker 3: Okay, to the World Cup.
- 50:05Speaker 2: Argentina has played there, as I mentioned, Brazil has played there.
- 50:09Speaker 2: How much has that been? I mean the population there
- 50:12Speaker 2: of course, with a ton of soccer influence and people
- 50:15Speaker 2: who are not from necessarily the United States growing up
- 50:18Speaker 2: on soccer like we do. How big a deal is
- 50:21Speaker 2: the World Cup. I'm assuming you've been out there covering
- 50:23Speaker 2: matches for the Herald.
- 50:24Speaker 3: I think I've seen you doing it.
- 50:26Speaker 6: Yeah, I have, And it's a huge deal down here.
- 50:29Speaker 6: And South Florida, A good chunk of South Florida is
- 50:33Speaker 6: in mourning because Colombia lost. We have other than Cubans.
- 50:37Speaker 6: We have more Colombians in South Florida than any other
- 50:42Speaker 6: foreign population. So Colombia losing was just a huge devastation
- 50:47Speaker 6: down here. But it's the World Cup. This is a
- 50:50Speaker 6: perfect city for the World Cup because we've got such diversity,
- 50:54Speaker 6: We're so close to South America and it's big down here.
- 50:58Speaker 6: We have one of the four quarter final matches and
- 51:00Speaker 6: I think it's a great one. We've got England and Norway.
- 51:04Speaker 3: H A k A.
- 51:05Speaker 6: Harry Kane against Earling Holland. So it's a it's a
- 51:10Speaker 6: huge tournament and it's a huge attraction all over the country,
- 51:16Speaker 6: but in South Florida, I would say especially.
- 51:19Speaker 2: That's going to be a different vibe than the Latin
- 51:22Speaker 2: vibe for England Norway game. Are you already seeing England
- 51:26Speaker 2: and Norway, English and Norwegians there in Miami game Saturday?
- 51:31Speaker 6: Yeah, not a whole lot. And and to think of
- 51:33Speaker 6: what we might have had, we might have had Mexico
- 51:36Speaker 6: and Colombia. So you know, we have England and Norway
- 51:41Speaker 6: as well. That's a huge contrast. We don't have a
- 51:43Speaker 6: lot of Native Brits down here or Norwegians. But it's
- 51:49Speaker 6: going to sell out and it's gonna be a crazy crowd.
- 51:51Speaker 6: Those those Norway fans with their road thing Row Row
- 51:55Speaker 6: roads it that's that's fun, that's that's on. I can't
- 52:01Speaker 6: wait to see that in person.
- 52:04Speaker 7: Thank you again for joining us, Jessamen McIntyre here. Yeah,
- 52:07Speaker 7: I want to know your allegiance.
- 52:11Speaker 6: Hmmm, uh well I don't really I don't know how
- 52:17Speaker 6: to answer that. I I try to remain pretty neutral
- 52:20Speaker 6: when I'm covering our local teams. I grew up a
- 52:23Speaker 6: Dolphins fan down here. I never deny that, you know,
- 52:28Speaker 6: being a US citizen of some patriotic bent. I was
- 52:34Speaker 6: cheering for the US, Yes, I was to and and
- 52:40Speaker 6: by the way, I got to give Seattle credit. The
- 52:44Speaker 6: US lost the other night for a lot of different reasons,
- 52:47Speaker 6: but one of them was not the city or the crowd.
- 52:49Speaker 6: You guys seem to come strong for that that game.
- 52:53Speaker 6: It seemed like I just an electric crowd in there,
- 52:56Speaker 6: so unfortunately they couldn't deliver for you.
- 52:58Speaker 7: Yeah, what are the things that Greg was bringing up
- 53:01Speaker 7: throughout our show today and throughout this entire World Cup
- 53:04Speaker 7: is that the soccer system is broken. Have you witnessed
- 53:08Speaker 7: that in just the amount of money that it apparently
- 53:11Speaker 7: takes to get people on the field from a young
- 53:15Speaker 7: getle Yeah.
- 53:17Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that's the big difference right now between
- 53:20Speaker 6: the consistent world powers and something like the US m
- 53:25Speaker 6: n T. You know, elsewhere in the country, they identify
- 53:29Speaker 6: talent at three or four years old, and they and
- 53:33Speaker 6: they pay for it, and they groom it and it's
- 53:37Speaker 6: literally a developmental system almost from the time you're a toddler,
- 53:42Speaker 6: and down here there just isn't that, you know, we
- 53:45Speaker 6: rely on independent leagues to do our job for us. Now,
- 53:51Speaker 6: all of the players, all of the national team players,
- 53:54Speaker 6: they've been playing their whole lives. But there's not an
- 53:57Speaker 6: organized system where the national team identifies youth players and
- 54:04Speaker 6: grooms them and I and you know, develops them over
- 54:08Speaker 6: a ten fifteen year period. If we want to compete
- 54:12Speaker 6: with the rest of the world, I think we're going
- 54:14Speaker 6: to have to get to that and really spend money
- 54:16Speaker 6: on the developmental end. But whether that will ever happen.
- 54:20Speaker 11: I have no IDEA great coach Miami Harold Institution in
- 54:24Speaker 11: South Florida, mccatchy brothern of mine news tribute of second
- 54:28Speaker 11: Fiddle of course to the Miami Harold and joining us on.
- 54:32Speaker 3: Thank you for that.
- 54:33Speaker 2: You're welcome. I just call it as I see it, Greg,
- 54:36Speaker 2: What is that? What are the Dolphins doing? McDaniel's gone too,
- 54:40Speaker 2: is gone? How's the start overcoming? Who's going to be
- 54:44Speaker 2: the quarterback? And is going to last? And they are
- 54:47Speaker 2: Miami South Florida. They're okay with a rebuild.
- 54:52Speaker 6: Yeah, I think they're happy with the rebuild because they're
- 54:55Speaker 6: desperate for a winner again. Down here. You know, we
- 54:59Speaker 6: have a little bit of a history in football, Don Shula,
- 55:04Speaker 6: Dan Marino, a couple of Super Bowls, but for distant days, right,
- 55:11Speaker 6: and so everybody down here is looking, you know, when
- 55:14Speaker 6: are the Dolphins gonna win again? When are the Dolphins
- 55:16Speaker 6: gonna win again? So they're they're finally starting a ground
- 55:19Speaker 6: up rebuild. Jeff Hafley seems like a promising head coach,
- 55:25Speaker 6: although one with no previous experience in the NFL. And uh,
- 55:29Speaker 6: you know, Malik Willis they got as their quarterback for
- 55:32Speaker 6: at least this season. He's really the only guy they
- 55:35Speaker 6: spend any money on in the off season, so not
- 55:39Speaker 6: much as expected. You know, I think it would be
- 55:42Speaker 6: shocking if if they made a run at the playoffs.
- 55:44Speaker 6: I think it's more likely they're going to make a
- 55:46Speaker 6: run at the number one draft pick. But I also
- 55:49Speaker 6: think fans are resigned to the fact that there's going
- 55:52Speaker 6: to be a couple of really rough years before the
- 55:55Speaker 6: dividends start to show.
- 55:57Speaker 2: Did the Dolphins wait till next year in a better
- 55:59Speaker 2: quarter class to dive into that and just having the
- 56:02Speaker 2: leak Willis as a bridge?
- 56:03Speaker 3: Do you think?
- 56:05Speaker 6: Yeah? I think I think there's a lot to that.
- 56:09Speaker 6: You know, if they do get the number one overall pick.
- 56:12Speaker 6: A lot of people think they might go with arch Manning,
- 56:14Speaker 6: who seems like the consensus number one next April, so
- 56:19Speaker 6: we'll see about that. I think they may be a
- 56:22Speaker 6: little too good to get the overall number one picked,
- 56:26Speaker 6: because there's a lot of other teams that are either
- 56:28Speaker 6: genuinely organically lousy or might be tanking. Although I think
- 56:33Speaker 6: in the in the NFL tanking is not quite the
- 56:36Speaker 6: problem it is in the NBA, right, But that's not
- 56:38Speaker 6: to say a team might not do that to get
- 56:41Speaker 6: just the right quarterback.
- 56:44Speaker 3: You're a busy man, Sarah.
- 56:45Speaker 2: You'll be a World Cup this weekend, and you're gonna
- 56:48Speaker 2: be bated breath waiting and writing about Lebron James. We
- 56:51Speaker 2: appreciate you joining us your prediction of what will happen
- 56:54Speaker 2: in England Norway and Lebron James signs with whom.
- 57:00Speaker 6: I think Lebron James is. If if I was convinced
- 57:04Speaker 6: this was his last season, I would say Cleveland for
- 57:08Speaker 6: the sentimental homecoming aspect. If if I think if I
- 57:12Speaker 6: think he might play two more years, which I do,
- 57:15Speaker 6: I think Miami's got a good shot. This is where
- 57:17Speaker 6: he's had most of his success as as for England Norway,
- 57:23Speaker 6: I I I have England in my World Cup pool,
- 57:25Speaker 6: so I am obliged to route privately for for the
- 57:30Speaker 6: Bridge to win that and I think they will. I
- 57:32Speaker 6: think they're a better side. And but but nobody's gonna
- 57:34Speaker 6: beat France in this World Cup. France is uh has
- 57:38Speaker 6: been the best team I've seen by by a little bit,
- 57:41Speaker 6: you know that. I think it's a question who's the
- 57:43Speaker 6: second best, maybe Spain or or or Argentina even in messy,
- 57:48Speaker 6: but I think France is clear and Boppy has clear,
- 57:51Speaker 6: clearly been the best team in this World Cup.
- 57:54Speaker 4: I was going to ask if you had an underdog,
- 57:59Speaker 4: is Morocco.
- 58:02Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't think there's a Cinderella in this World Cup.
- 58:05Speaker 6: Switzerland is the lowest ranked final eight team in terms
- 58:09Speaker 6: of the world ranking. But Morocco is pretty good. You know,
- 58:13Speaker 6: they're not well known and therefore they're underregarded. And so
- 58:18Speaker 6: if I'm going to have a World Cup underdog, it
- 58:21Speaker 6: might be Morocco. But nobody. Nobody gets by France.
- 58:24Speaker 4: Though, And we'll have that game on Thursday, so yeah,
- 58:27Speaker 4: that's tomorrow.
- 58:28Speaker 7: Actually, yes, And the one thing I wanted to go
- 58:31Speaker 7: back to Lebron for just one minute, and just what
- 58:35Speaker 7: do you think will happen with Bronni.
- 58:38Speaker 6: So, man, that's a tough question.
- 58:43Speaker 7: I know.
- 58:44Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I'm look, I'm pro nepotism. Okay, I'm
- 58:48Speaker 6: gonna get that great. I am pro nepotism. My son,
- 58:52Speaker 6: you know, is on my podcast with me and he's
- 58:56Speaker 6: on the Levotard Show with me.
- 58:58Speaker 3: And so I love all of that.
- 59:00Speaker 6: By the way, Yeah, yeah, there's some of that going around.
- 59:04Speaker 6: There's nothing wrong with nepotism Bronnie. I think if it
- 59:07Speaker 6: weren't for Lebron might have seen his short career end
- 59:11Speaker 6: by now. But I also think that, you know, the
- 59:14Speaker 6: way business works is that wherever Lebron winds up, Bronnie
- 59:19Speaker 6: might magically wind up on that same roster. So you
- 59:23Speaker 6: never know. But he's he's not going to be his dad,
- 59:26Speaker 6: let's put it that way.
- 59:27Speaker 7: Well, yeah, clearly, I think he got pushed into it,
- 59:30Speaker 7: and this is my personal opinion a little too early.
- 59:32Speaker 7: But do you think that if he worked his way
- 59:34Speaker 7: up in the G League he might have more success
- 59:37Speaker 7: than getting pushed into early.
- 59:42Speaker 6: It's possible, It's possible. I don't think. I don't think
- 59:46Speaker 6: he's a bad player. I just think, you know, if
- 59:49Speaker 6: Wayne Gretzky Junior is trying to make his way into
- 59:53Speaker 6: the NHL, now, I think it would be the same idea.
- 59:55Speaker 6: You know, he's he's always going to be compared to
- 59:59Speaker 6: his dad unfairly, and even if he has a pretty
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: good career, it's going to be like, well, he sure
- 1:00:06Speaker 6: wasn't as good as his dad.
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: You know.
- 1:00:08Speaker 6: I sort of feel first guys like Bronnie and I agree,
- 1:00:11Speaker 6: you know, yeah, and Charlie Woods, Tiger Woods son. You know,
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: these kids have it rough. Imagine being a fourteen year
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: old golfer named Woods. You know, it's just difficult. So
- 1:00:24Speaker 6: I have I have sympathy for those guys. I wait, Ronnie, well,
- 1:00:28Speaker 6: I don't think he's all that good, but neither do
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: I think he's in the NBA totally on his dad's name.
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: You know, if he didn't have some talent, he wouldn't
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: have made.
- 1:00:37Speaker 9: It this far.
- 1:00:38Speaker 6: So good luck, good luck, Ronnie.
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: We wish him the best.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: Greg Gothe Miami, Harold enjoy the footy England Norway down
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: in Miami on Saturday in the World Cup quarterfinals, and
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: whatever Lebron James decides Thank you, Sarah.
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: I know you're busy, man. It's great to talk to you.
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: All right, Thanks, appreciate it. Anytime.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: Greg Kote, I'll be reading his work on the McClatchy
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: Wire News Tribune and Miami Harold, both in the same
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: newspaper chain. I'mclatchy Network. Oh yeah, I read his stories
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: all the time, running through our wires and our system
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: and whatnot. He's been an institution in South Florida talking
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: about the Marlins and how they're just so far down
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: the pecking order even at the good you have to
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: have him on regularly.
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: He's pretty good.
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: He's pretty fun.
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: Yeah, he's like I said, he's an institution. Has been
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: doing the Miami Herald columnist on the Dolphins in particulars
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: before Dan Marino, I mean probably.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: Bob GESI yeah.
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: When he said that, I was like, wait, really, yeah, I.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Mean we're talking greasy Shuola seventies Dolphins perfect season.
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: Type institutional knowledge.
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: Yes, he's a Southward institution.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: If you miss that, you can go to the iHeartRadio
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: app and here our interview with Great Cote from Miami
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: download ninety three kJ him while you're there, or even
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: before you get there, go to the iHeart Radio app
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: in ninety three KJR and hit the.
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: Red talkback button.
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: I love your voices.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: It's a microphone button at the bottom that Jessaman wants
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: to hear your voices so we can play them back

- 1:02:01Speaker 3: Day up next.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: If you have any voice mails, we're gonna hear that
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: and we're gonna read back your text On the Tacoma
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Dodg's text line than I in fronesil join us to
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: tell us what he's got going today from twelve to
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: three on ninety three point three kJ RFM.
- 1:02:42Speaker 7: Could not agree more with mister Bell muonios through nine
- 1:02:48Speaker 7: pitches nine that point.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: Come on, man, the iHeartRadio you app strikes again. Jessman
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: gets her wing.
- 1:03:02Speaker 7: Let down, let down, let down the USA, let us down.
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: I always get the best letter. Oh, that was a
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: lot of emotion.
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: That was a lot of something.
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: What was that?
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: A very bulburtten song?
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: I think a capella too, Oh, Jess when as she
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: receives that was very interesting.
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: I do appreciate you guys timing in.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: He talked back on the iHeartRadio the little red button.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: That's how you do that for thirty seconds or less,
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: and we'll play it back at eleven thirty.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: We also read back your text.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: The Takomo Doadge text sign, where I asked at the
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: top of the show about your reaction to the Mariners
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: last night. Yeah, Wes and Wilson is a favorite topic.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: Two five three Fundamental baseball is dead. Not only is
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: that a ridiculous mistake. You have one job in all Caps.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: Yesterday you sat on the bench for the entire game,
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: and then you do that, like seriously, man four two five,
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: we were in the bases worse than a little league team.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: And then he texts the second time consistently printed in
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: for emphasis two six.
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: As I was watching the game on my superbox, what
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: is that?
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: What the superbox? I want one?
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: Chris would know. It's like probably what sling or whatever?
- 1:04:38Speaker 7: I do a gray area situation when it comes to
- 1:04:41Speaker 7: my television watching experience.
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: But it's not a superbox.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: Someone tell some of tell us what superbox is, so I,
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: as such, I get the home team broadcast. Even the
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: Marlins played by play guys were laughing at Wilson for
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: trying to get to go to third on that ball,
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: suggested he should just walk home as opposed to going
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: to the dugout.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: Two six. We need to get rid of Rucker. He's
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: terrible and totally.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Agreed about Wilson running to third or maybe Wilson the manager,
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: I'm not sure which. Four to five about the US
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: soccer team, Lots of people witness the US team play
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: with no passion, no drive, no commitment, which totally cretered
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: my interest in everyone else's interest in our watch party
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: in falling soccer going forward. Record audiences to watch a
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: national embarrassment.
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: WO, that's rough. I do get because I was out.
- 1:05:37Speaker 7: I went out for the game with friends and there
- 1:05:42Speaker 7: was a lot of disappointment, but I wouldn't call it
- 1:05:44Speaker 7: a national embarrassment.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: Round of sixteen in the World Cup, the teams are
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: probably pretty good and Belgium is really good.
- 1:05:51Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: Here's the thing about the Belgium lost no one's talking about.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: They didn't even play their best player ever, Kevin de Bryner,
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: who stayed on the bench the entire game, didn't come
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: in until well into the second half. Doku didn't come
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: in until the sixty plus minute. They had their coat.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: Their head coach believed that they could assert control of
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: the game with their some bee squatters, and they did
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: they didn't play, they didn't start to burner lokaku or doku,
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: and they still were up three to one. That's that's indicting.
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought we had a chance for a bite.
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: I really thought we had a chance.
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: Four or two.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Five, says Jerry Depoto is someone who hasn't won anything
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: to justify his stupid rules.
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: I mean he's he's got us closer than we've been.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: That's a relative term, but that's true.
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: It is true.
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: Nine to seven, Oh, says Lou Panello. Would have them
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: ten games up by now. Oh, how I miss him.
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: I love sweet Lou. I missed the old school angry.
- 1:06:59Speaker 6: You know.
- 1:06:59Speaker 7: I don't even know if he smoked cigarettes, but for
- 1:07:03Speaker 7: some reason I picture him smoking in the dugouts. Oh
- 1:07:06Speaker 7: he did, Okay, I if I was correct about that.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: There was a wall at the edge of the Kingdome
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: that the television cameras couldn't always see him behind. But
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: then the cameras were Yeah, and there were a few
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: times that the outfield cameras would get him and he
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: would he'd be smoking on the bench.
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: The kind of missed that kind of a manature.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: Can you imagine what Lou Panela would tell someone to
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: do with their iPad.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: He one, he would throw it across the room. It
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: would break.
- 1:07:36Speaker 7: Yeah, he could never manage to Jared, I feel like,
- 1:07:40Speaker 7: so that's all how I felt when when Edgar, for instance, joined. Obviously,
- 1:07:45Speaker 7: each has been a part of the you know, the
- 1:07:47Speaker 7: organization since he first took its cleets off.
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: But when Edgar joined, I was like, oh, great, Okay,
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: he can.
- 1:07:54Speaker 7: Be the translator of you know, statistical analysis to calm
- 1:08:00Speaker 7: down and uh, just hit the ball.
- 1:08:04Speaker 4: And I like that part of it.
- 1:08:06Speaker 7: Yes, And I feel like there's almost too much information
- 1:08:10Speaker 7: given to people, yeah sometimes, and I thought he was
- 1:08:13Speaker 7: a good translator for that. And I feel like just
- 1:08:17Speaker 7: the combination, like if we had Lou.
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: Back, he would never take a job in this organization.
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: He wouldn't have never I think, no, because they wouldn't
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: let him.
- 1:08:25Speaker 7: But I feel like Dan is kind of in yes,
- 1:08:29Speaker 7: you are correct, you are absolutely correct. He would tell
- 1:08:33Speaker 7: everyone to bleep off and rip the phone off the
- 1:08:36Speaker 7: wall that's in.
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: The duck out exactly what meeting. I'll have a meeting
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: beginning of spring training at the end of the season.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: That's my meetings with the front office out there and play.
- 1:08:46Speaker 7: Yeah, but I feel like Dan Wilson is a higher
- 1:08:48Speaker 7: that was meant to be almost in that kind of fashion.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: Definitely a nod to the past in the nineties and
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: the ninety five team and all of that, right, but not.
- 1:08:58Speaker 7: Someone who's all in two stats and just you know,
- 1:09:02Speaker 7: can bring a team together and that's what brings it forward.
- 1:09:05Speaker 7: And let me tell you, when I talked to my
- 1:09:07Speaker 7: father about the Mets, I have to not drive off
- 1:09:11Speaker 7: the road in that situation.
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: But that's what he says.
- 1:09:15Speaker 7: And he's a lifelong coach, and he says that that's
- 1:09:18Speaker 7: the issue, is not bringing a team together, not promoting
- 1:09:21Speaker 7: leadership from within.
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: And I think Dan has that skill.
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: Yeah, so has a skill to say yes to whatever.
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: I mean, first time manager.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Exactly, Jason longtime listened two six Save on the airfare
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: and keep wouing Seattle to only pitch home games. Easy
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: solution to the sixth starting pitchers. Yeah, well, yeah, they're
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: chartering the whole plane. So actually his seat what it's
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: already paid for. But and this is sad and interesting
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: and true. Two o six says, Hey, Greg, have you
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: read any articles about how Argentina football development system. Football
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: with you takes advantage of poor boys in their academies,
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: doesn't feed him well or compensate them, even to extreme
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: sometimes it will allow them to be abused. I personally
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: have rooted for Argentina because of this. I did read
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: that story. It was horrific and that was that came
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: out last week. And corruption ruins everything, to say the least,
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: including lives.
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: And yes, I never heard that.
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: Joo six says, if Castillo was our six best starter,
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: why is putting him in the bullpen matter trade wise?
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: If he's our six best, he would be say the
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Cubs second or third best, or just say he'd start
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: for twenty other teams, just not us.
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: Why the merit?
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Why would the Mariners do affect Why would what the
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: Mariners do affect his trade value? Well, the main reason
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: I bring that up is because he makes twenty four
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: million dollars and a pro rated to be twelve million,
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: So a team would be not wanting to pay twelve
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: million dollars to a middle reliever.
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: Yeah, as a rental, it's a rental or.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: A rental as your third starter, if he says, Cubs
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: with third star Cubs by the way and all kinds
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: of pitching. There's been rumors they're going to push for
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: Terrek Scouble, but they're falling out quickly. The Brewers may
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: be more of a loption. Or if the Dodgers and
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Yankees don't get Schooble, we'll see about that. Serry SIXO
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: says it's the best athletes for soccer you can find
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: That start early was four to five. Was Wayne Gretzky
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: the best athlete? No, he was not best, world's best
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: soccer hockey player.
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: Well that's why we were talking about skill, that's right.
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: Yeah, three for six oh says it's the same as
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: AAU basketball or prep baseball. Sports in the US are
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: super exclusive. It doesn't hurt us in other sports. It's
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: still an athlete skill thing.
- 1:11:44Speaker 7: Yeah, it's it's just interesting the way it's evolving. It
- 1:11:50Speaker 7: keeps turning into more monetization, I guess, and that's what
- 1:11:56Speaker 7: makes me a little bit sad because the joy that
- 1:11:58Speaker 7: we used to take out of sports is kind of waning.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: About the money. There's a one on here I wanted
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: to read, but yeah, this is two O six. I
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: totally get what you're talking about. I was paying ten
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: k a year for three years of Crossfire for my daughter,
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: that's going to be Academy and select and premier clubs
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: here in the area.
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: And it was for a while the.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: Sounders Academy and Crossfire Academy were the two DA programs
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: for the US soccer program. DA has since gone away,
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: but when my son was playing, it was the DA two.
- 1:12:34Speaker 7: She suffered a serious foot injury her senior year and
- 1:12:38Speaker 7: poof no college soccer. She was not allowed to play
- 1:12:41Speaker 7: on any other sports. Essentially no time. Oh well yeah,
- 1:12:46Speaker 7: oh well sucks.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: Where's the development there? I mean that. Yeah.
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: That you loved about Pete Carroll is that he loved
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: multi sport out.
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: We talked about that yesterday with exactly When you go
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: to a soccer tournament. The Surf Cup is one of
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: the largest youth soccer tournaments in the country and everyone
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: from everyone comes there. Both my daughter and my son
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: played there many many years. You go, you have to
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: stay at a certain hotel. The teams tell you that
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: you can't play unless you stay at one of these
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: four hotels, and they all cost three hundred dollars a night.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: This was ten years ago. They all cost three hundred
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: dollars a night. One of them's out in out by
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: Mira mar nowhere near the field. Because those hotels have
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: deals with the tournament. Go to Las Vegas you have business, Yeah,
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: you have to.
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: Las Vegas is a huge.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: Soccer in youth basketball and youth soccer and youth baseball
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: for that matter.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: Tournament area.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: Why because they make you stay on the strip. Why
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: are twelve year olds and fourteen year olds required to
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: go on the strip. It's ridiculous.
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: Those kids have nothing to do. They go to circus
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: circus in the basement and want them.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: You do not want them to do walk up and
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: down this strip on a Friday night at ten o'clock
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: or eight o'clock or six o'clock.
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: You don't.
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: They're twelve and fourteen years old and they're making him
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: stay on the strip. Why because the strip hotels have
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: deals with the tournament. It is collusion, corruption, and it's
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: horrid what they do in the name of developing youth.
- 1:14:17Speaker 6: You.
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: Sports should be about developing character and skills, athletic skills.
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: Life skills, life lessons.
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: It should not be about everybody getting rich and use
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: sports in his country is about everyone getting paid. It's
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: so asked backwards. It's just like I said, I could
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: do an entire month of shows about this. It's just unbelievable.
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: I agree, unbelievable. Get to talk to Tyler Adams about it.
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: So a lot of people are noting that Greg Kote
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: we just had said that Brownie James, he feels bad
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: for him, or feels bad for Charlie Woods, and they're
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: multiple texts said, wait a minute, you're feeling bad for
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: billionaires sons. He means obviously thinking as a parent of
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: and the child trying to be his own person and
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: trying to his own athlete, I mean competitively feel bad
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: for him.
- 1:15:05Speaker 7: Yes, of course he clearly had a goal since he
- 1:15:08Speaker 7: was probably toddling around, and it was to be just
- 1:15:11Speaker 7: like his dad. And that's not a bad goal to have,
- 1:15:14Speaker 7: But you can't be compared to one of the greades.
- 1:15:16Speaker 7: That's what I think he felt bad for him for.
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: And Forerness is outside.
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: He's going to tell us what he's got going from
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: twelve until thy Thanks for your text, thanks for your talkbacks.
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: We'll do it again tomorrow in ninety three point three
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: KJRFM point j R at Them, where we're joined by
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: Ian freness. The mayor and Maple Valley has a gigantic
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: charity golf tournament this weekend and he is going to
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: go prepare for that from now until about what Saturday
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: and tip off to you at tea time.
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: Mama, what am I doing? I'm sorry?
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: I was just on Friday, Friday, Friday, Now until Friday.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: That's all you're going to be doing.
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, getting ready for It's pretty much it. Yeah,
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: it's about it. Yeah, yeah yeah. Did you like your
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: Mariners last night?
- 1:16:30Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:16:30Speaker 12: That's funny. Uh, I think that was that was I
- 1:16:35Speaker 12: don't know. It's it's one game, but it also seems
- 1:16:39Speaker 12: to kind of magnify everything that's wrong in some ways.
- 1:16:43Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:16:43Speaker 12: You get the goofy ass six man rotation, your bullpen shorts,
- 1:16:49Speaker 12: you have a quad a player and is your ghost
- 1:16:51Speaker 12: runner who makes a colossal air, and you have these
- 1:16:55Speaker 12: rules where you don't want to let guys pitch certain
- 1:16:57Speaker 12: times in certain places or for you know, start It's
- 1:17:00Speaker 12: just everything was just kind of and the thing with
- 1:17:02Speaker 12: the Bummer is they battle back. You're down for nothing,
- 1:17:05Speaker 12: WU once again's awful on the road, and you still
- 1:17:08Speaker 12: battle back and you take a lead, take a damn lead, right,
- 1:17:11Speaker 12: I mean five to four? Right, you take a lead
- 1:17:13Speaker 12: and it's a good baseball team. You can't, like, you
- 1:17:16Speaker 12: can get away with that crap against bad teams against
- 1:17:18Speaker 12: the Angels. You can't get away with that against team
- 1:17:20Speaker 12: like the Marlins.
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: And then they get Tampa Bay next. Tampa Bay's rolling. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: I mean the two hottest teams happened to be in
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: Florida right now? So where we go?
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: I saw you commenting this morning on the Kraken what's
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: going on with their start?
- 1:17:35Speaker 12: He's not a star? First of all prospect prospect it
- 1:17:39Speaker 12: was Shane Wright. I don't know, there's just a lot
- 1:17:42Speaker 12: of it's it's the NHL. Players are very empowered, and
- 1:17:46Speaker 12: even those who don't have no movement clauses think they're empowered.
- 1:17:50Speaker 12: We have this new line that we can all use.
- 1:17:52Speaker 12: It's you know, player development. Uh, you know, Shane Wright
- 1:17:57Speaker 12: and his agent and people whatever happy with his development.
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:18:01Speaker 12: I just look at the numbers and he's on second
- 1:18:03Speaker 12: power play units, he's shooting percentage dropped by eight percentage points?
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: Is at lane Lambert's fault? At what point of the
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: player is responsible for their own play? Right?
- 1:18:11Speaker 12: Like, are we blaming coaching on you know, Freeze kicking
- 1:18:16Speaker 12: the ground and turning the ball over for the US
- 1:18:19Speaker 12: or Polistic being absolutely the softest international player in the
- 1:18:22Speaker 12: history of the game. I mean, are we blaming coaches
- 1:18:24Speaker 12: for that or do we do? Do athletes not take
- 1:18:27Speaker 12: any responsibility anymore? I guess that's my question. Some do,
- 1:18:30Speaker 12: but no, not many seriously, Like like you know, in
- 1:18:34Speaker 12: Shane Wright's case, I just still wonder.
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: I mentioned this to Chuck.
- 1:18:38Speaker 12: I don't know your kids are recently removed enough where
- 1:18:42Speaker 12: you could you could relate to what I brought up
- 1:18:44Speaker 12: with Chuck. I just wonder with Shane, and I hope,
- 1:18:47Speaker 12: I hope he ends up having a great career because
- 1:18:48Speaker 12: my understanding is he works his ass off, you know,
- 1:18:51Speaker 12: and he's not a guy that they have to worry about,
- 1:18:53Speaker 12: are you going to be there in time for conditioning
- 1:18:55Speaker 12: and weights and blah blah blah, all those things. He
- 1:18:57Speaker 12: does all those But I wonder with him, you know,
- 1:19:00Speaker 12: he's he was a exception player, which means they gave
- 1:19:04Speaker 12: him an opportunity to play in Major junior at the
- 1:19:06Speaker 12: age of fifteen, a year two years before most kids can.
- 1:19:09Speaker 12: He was that good did he peek at fifteen or sixteen?
- 1:19:13Speaker 12: That happens to how often did you see that girl?
- 1:19:15Speaker 6: Like?
- 1:19:15Speaker 12: I bet, I bet if you asked Eric how many
- 1:19:18Speaker 12: guys was he playing with that were in seventh and
- 1:19:20Speaker 12: eighth grade? They were like, they're going to play for
- 1:19:22Speaker 12: the US national team and had nothing to do with
- 1:19:24Speaker 12: access or money or anything else.
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: They just that's as good as they got, right. I
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: can think of too.
- 1:19:29Speaker 12: Off the top of my head, I can think of
- 1:19:31Speaker 12: we Keith and I were having this conversation yesterday and
- 1:19:33Speaker 12: we're like, yeah, that guy, that guy, that guy, that guy,
- 1:19:36Speaker 12: you know, the kid that had you know, full. Hugh
- 1:19:39Speaker 12: talks about it a lot. I don't want to put
- 1:19:42Speaker 12: words in his mouth, but Dylan Morris. Was that guy
- 1:19:45Speaker 12: Dylan Morris when he's a freshman in high school? Or
- 1:19:46Speaker 12: was they a graam campausen right? Like facial hair, you
- 1:19:50Speaker 12: know and full? It never grew, never got better. It happens,
- 1:19:55Speaker 12: but yeah, it's And then we have some people in
- 1:19:59Speaker 12: town that cover the team him, some bloggers and stuff
- 1:20:01Speaker 12: that just they just don't.
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: Know what they're doing. I'll be honest with you, they
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: don't know what they're doing. I was going to ask
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: you to have the krack and done enough do you think?
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: But I guess I should save that.
- 1:20:10Speaker 12: Well, yeah, we can talk about later. They haven't done
- 1:20:13Speaker 12: enough in the off season. No, I mean I like him, Samoskevitch,
- 1:20:16Speaker 12: makes him better. Put them on the top line with
- 1:20:18Speaker 12: Maddie and McMahon. There're some speed lineup like that. But yeah,
- 1:20:22Speaker 12: they need to do some more. And they're not rebuilding
- 1:20:24Speaker 12: because you don't sign Jordan Beverley and McMahon and stuff
- 1:20:27Speaker 12: like that if you're rebuilding. So we can just we again,
- 1:20:30Speaker 12: let's put that to bed. Are they retooling, reimagining?
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: Maybe here's your front line score. He's no, he should
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: be your second center. So that tells you where the
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: gap is.
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: But listen to the music getting turned up, which means
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: I'm supposed to ask you what's coming up there.
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: It was a gentle nudge.
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: Chris Andals is going to join us.
- 1:20:50Speaker 12: We kind of put a bowl on Seattle as a
- 1:20:52Speaker 12: World Cup host city, So Crystal join us coming up
- 1:20:54Speaker 12: in the either one, three or two o'clock hour. And
- 1:20:56Speaker 12: then we'll also check in with Corbin Smith and I'm
- 1:20:59Speaker 12: talking to him for a while. He wrote a couple
- 1:21:01Speaker 12: of fun stories. I need a little seahawk fix. And
- 1:21:04Speaker 12: since you're not available because you do a show now,
- 1:21:06Speaker 12: we'll have Corbyn on set.
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: Happy to do him. You need it, I know, I'll
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: give you the afternoon offense. I appreciate that.
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: Go enjoy the golf after your golfing and planning that
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: whole great event you do on Friday in Maple Valley.
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: Ian won't be with you the next two days because
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: we're gonna have World Cup and I'm taking you right
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: up to the World Cup. Jessamin and I are the
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: next two days. Thanks for listening. We'll do it again
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: tomorrow ten until twelve thirty, leading right up to the
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: first World Cup quarterfinal right here live on ninety three
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: point three KJRFF
