- 0:55Hello, everybody. Welcome to my underground
- 0:59studio. I'm trucker mouth and this is
- 1:02the road, the day on the road. We're going to discuss, at least
- 1:08I remember my headset today. We're going to discuss mental
- 1:12health in the military. OK, mental health in the
- 1:16military. But how's everybody?
- 1:19Thanks for everybody for tuning in.
- 1:20How's everybody doing today? I'm doing all right, and I had a
- 1:27visit with the dermatologist and they did a biopsy on my leg here
- 1:30to see what this is and. And what's this?
- 1:38Oh, wait, remove the destination from extreme cancel.
- 1:44Come on. No, there we go.
- 1:50I'm sorry. Something popped up here and I
- 1:53tried to remove it and it was going to shut me off anyway.
- 1:55Yeah, so I got the bottom through my leg and it was a hard
- 2:01to change the the bandage on it. But mental health, mental health
- 2:04in the military, we're going to mental health here.
- 2:06Mental health in the military is the topic today.
- 2:09And you know, a lot of people suffer from mental health.
- 2:13I know I do. I have things buried that once
- 2:19they come out it it, it disrupts me for days and days until until
- 2:25I bury it again. I need to get this camera, like
- 2:28150 zoom or something. Anyway, I was messing around
- 2:34with this. I don't know.
- 2:37I'll get it done, but it looks like you can see me.
- 2:39OK. I'm welded up.
- 2:40And anyway, yeah, so, you know, I have things buried.
- 2:44And what's the surface messed up for?
- 2:48I messed up for a while. And something just surfaced here
- 2:52that was very traumatic to me when I was 10 years old and I
- 2:55just can't shake it. It's just a little better now.
- 2:59It's been going on like a week now.
- 3:01So you know, PTSDI know I have it.
- 3:05I know I have PTSDI. Don't care what the, the, the VA
- 3:07says. I don't know if I had it for, I
- 3:09don't think I had it from that. I'm not sure if I have it from
- 3:12that, that incident I had when I was in Army reserves or not.
- 3:18But you know, the, the, the nightmares and all that.
- 3:21And yeah, I know I got PTSD. So, you know, a lot of people
- 3:28are, are stressed with mental health, like Drew Carey.
- 3:36Drew Carey on The Price is Right, He's always saying take
- 3:39care of mental health. You wouldn't think someone like
- 3:41that would have any problems. But see, mental health, there's
- 3:44no boundaries. It's like, it's like drugs and
- 3:46no, no boundaries. You could be the richest person
- 3:49in the world. You still have mental health
- 3:50problems and it effects a lot of people.
- 3:54I know it affects me. So here we go.
- 3:58Let's get that. Let's get going here.
- 4:00So mental health in the military always has been a big concern
- 4:04for that fact every not just military, but everywhere.
- 4:09You know, you've got good mental health, you're happy, you know
- 4:11it's the happy person and you know mental health is OK.
- 4:23I don't want to say that mental health in the military is a big
- 4:31is as big a fact is physical fitness.
- 4:36You know your mental health and you know, 1 soldier here.
- 4:41He used to be on MBR radio here. He sent out, you know, overseas
- 4:46and all he has PTSD and I said, well, I would have no problem
- 4:50shooting people that that were trying to kill me.
- 4:54And he said, OK, you say that. But looking back, I believe you
- 5:03might be right. You might be right on that.
- 5:08So let's just get going here, man.
- 5:11So, so according to statistics, by statistics by Department of
- 5:17Defence, 450 to 550, active duty reserve, National Guard, active
- 5:24duty reserve under guard, die by suicide each year.
- 5:30You know, that's 450, five, 150 of them.
- 5:32And you know, my aunt once told me, my Aunt Deb, God bless her
- 5:36soul, she told me that, you know, you don't want to ever do
- 5:39nothing like that 'cause you're going to die in natural causes
- 5:41soon enough. And I just turned 60 years old.
- 5:43And she's right. You're going to die soon enough
- 5:51of natural causes. You don't need to do anything
- 5:55like that. So the USS Abraham Lincoln, we
- 6:04all heard the USS Abraham Lincoln on.
- 6:05It's on it's Middle East war crews there, 88 sailors
- 6:12attempted to jump overboard in the battle group. 1 dead but was
- 6:16rescued on their long deployment in Middle East despite having
- 6:22several psychological and psychiatric workers available.
- 6:29Now, you know, there's a lot of people on a carrier, especially
- 6:33when they're out at sea and you know, all about all the air
- 6:36groups and all are on air to their squadrons and all.
- 6:39I'm sure there's a waiting list. And it's just a lot people just
- 6:45don't want to go that route. They just want to, you know, try
- 6:47to try to walk things off. That's like me.
- 6:49I did talk to, to psychiatric workers in, in, in the VA, you
- 6:53know, and it helped. And like I said, something
- 7:00surfaced man. And, and, and I had a really,
- 7:02really traumatic thing happened when I was 10 and I try not to
- 7:05remember it and it was bad. It was really, really bad.
- 7:08And I thought I was going to be killed, but my dad saved me.
- 7:15That saved my life against me. So Fort Hood, TX, OK, we're
- 7:22going to Army now has a high, has a high suicide rate.
- 7:26Fort Hood has the second highest suicide rate in the Army, has
- 7:32the second highest number of attempted suicides by by large
- 7:35margin over the posts that had third and fourth highest suicide
- 7:41ratings. The the bases in the army that
- 7:47had the most suicide attempts. Actually the most suicide
- 7:51attempts in the in the hall of the military was Fort
- 7:54Wainwright, AK and Joint Base Eldmore Richardson in Anchorage
- 8:01had the highest per capita suicide rates in all the
- 8:04military in all the military. So the most really stuck up
- 8:08there. I mean, I know it's cold, but
- 8:10damn, you ain't got to kill yourself.
- 8:12God bless them people. I mean, man, how large margin.
- 8:18So Yep. So I do have some stories about
- 8:26Fort Hood, but the Fort Hood was originally named Fort Hood
- 8:30originally officially renamed the Fort Cavazos because their
- 8:35general Hood was a he was a Confederate general in the army.
- 8:40The, the, the, the Southern army, the Confederate, he was
- 8:44the Confederate general. So they renamed it.
- 8:47What's that going to do? The Fort Cavasis has a has faced
- 8:52long standing crisis regarding soldiers, suicides, violent
- 8:55crime and systematic leadership failures.
- 8:58You got to realize that Fort Hood's one of the biggest
- 9:01installations, the military installations in the world.
- 9:04So there's a lot of people on that base.
- 9:06I did have statistics how many peoples on there, but maybe it's
- 9:09in my notes here and they have tank brigades there and they and
- 9:15they said it's 340 square miles. They go up in the mountains and
- 9:18they boat, you know, they they practice with these tanks and
- 9:20it's humongous 340 square miles grace the money.
- 9:23That's that's probably an eighth the size of Pennsylvania.
- 9:36So yeah, Fort Hood over the span of two decades of sprawling
- 9:41military installation in Central Texas, has repeatedly broken
- 9:44records for active duty suicides promptly federal investigations,
- 9:48independent culture reviews, and top level military
- 9:50restructuring. Fort Hood, the base has
- 9:54experienced, I'm still calling it Fort Hood.
- 9:57Fuck what anyone says experienced multiple distinct
- 9:59waves of high suicide rates, often linked to psychological
- 10:02strains of multiple combat deployments during the global
- 10:06war on Terrorism and underlying structural issues on the base.
- 10:13There's some problems down there.
- 10:14Like I said, it's a huge it's a city.
- 10:16It's a city. I mean, it's 2010 records spike
- 10:21in 2010, the installation recorded a record high 22
- 10:25confirmed or suspected suicides, doubling the count for 2009.
- 10:32During one notorious week of September 2001, four decorated
- 10:36combat veterans decorated combat veterans died by suicide,
- 10:41driving the base of suicide rate roughly to four times the
- 10:44national civilian average. These days were obviously, you
- 10:49know, stressing for PTSD and man, they they like I said, I
- 10:56told this one, I told that one soldier, I said he was a, he was
- 10:59a, he was a podcaster. I said, you know what I'd have
- 11:02like I said I'd have no problem, you know, shooting people that
- 11:07and killing people that are trying to kill me.
- 11:09But it it, it, it you'll think about it.
- 11:14That's I, I'm eating my words there.
- 11:21Looking back at the things that homemade that are, that are my
- 11:30mental health. I believe he's right.
- 11:33So mid 2000 tens. Following a brief decline to six
- 11:37suicides in 2013, the number of the number surged back to 17
- 11:41deaths at Fort Hood in 2014 and remain consistent in double
- 11:47digits for consecutive years. Something about these tank
- 11:52brigades, man, they're really stressful on people.
- 11:53And I think they have, they have a lot of real, real training
- 12:01down there. And people returning from the
- 12:04war and stuff go down or back to the base and their home base.
- 12:08And wow, 2020 crisis 2020, at least 11 soldiers died by
- 12:13suicide as part of a larger wave of 31 total non bad deaths at
- 12:18the base, which included five homicides.
- 12:20So in 2020, eleven soldiers total 31 non combat deaths at
- 12:26the base. Like I said, man, you're going
- 12:30to die. You're going to die of magic
- 12:32college soon enough. I just turned 16.
- 12:34I'm seeing it ranking commanders in foothold December 2020 for
- 12:39systematic leadership failures. So in May 2023, the base was
- 12:46officially renamed for Cavazos. Cavazos.
- 12:50Despite name changes and and reorganized prevention
- 12:54protocols, the installation continued to navigate severe
- 12:57mental health challenges. For instance, in August 2023,
- 13:02the Army confirmed three soldiers suicide within a two
- 13:05week window. From August 2023, three soldiers
- 13:10suicides in a two week window during call to action Stand down
- 13:15days with a news like the first Calvary division to re educate
- 13:19service members mental health interventions at 24/7 crisis
- 13:26resources. If you're in the military and
- 13:29you feel like you're going to commit suicide or hurt yourself
- 13:32or someone else, dial 988. Dial 988, man, and, and, and,
- 13:37and, and help yourself. There's people there that try to
- 13:39help you. Dial 988 if you're active duty
- 13:42or guard and the veteran. And then if you're the veteran,
- 13:44dial 988 plus one or text 838255 to connect with the confidential
- 13:51specialized support available 24/7.
- 13:56So there's resources out there, man.
- 13:57Reach out. Don't hurt yourself or somebody
- 13:59else. And you know, everybody knows.
- 14:05Everybody knows about the mass shooting air and the mass
- 14:08shooting in the Fort Hood down there.
- 14:15That asshole, Major Nadal Hassan, 39, entered A readiness
- 14:22processing center on post and opened fire using a handgun
- 14:26fitted with a laser sight. When unarmed soldiers and
- 14:28civilians preparing for deployment.
- 14:30These people were preparing for deployment to go defend our
- 14:33country. And this asshole who's a major
- 14:35who that's OO4O5, an army he had to have years in, probably,
- 14:40probably 10. And he was talking though he was
- 14:44talking to Al Qaeda, he said, had his head examined.
- 14:49Fucking asshole. Assad, then an Army
- 14:52psychiatrist, was tuned and deployed Afghanistan.
- 14:55He was talking to him. He's one of four death row
- 15:00inmates at the military justice justice system awaiting
- 15:04execution at Fort Leonard Ward. Everybody knows about Fort
- 15:09Leonard Ward. Fort Leonard Ward, Kansas.
- 15:12He's in there and he was shot by a civilian.
- 15:21He was in that process and said they don't have guns there.
- 15:24People were getting processed guns in our country.
- 15:26He'd come in there and killed 13 people they could wounded.
- 15:30I have his papers mixed up. So he killed 13.
- 15:37Yeah, 13 counts, 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32
- 15:42counts of attempted murder. How did the guy during the
- 15:46Afghanistan wars named Nadal Hassan get get in our military?
- 15:53They didn't look at his background doing nothing,
- 15:55obviously. Hassan's shootings free sparked
- 15:59a conversation about the difference between attacks
- 16:01sponsored by terror organizations and those that are
- 16:03simply inspired by such groups, a distinction underscored
- 16:08roughly five years later as ISIS inspired to tax rose and
- 16:12frequency. I don't know.
- 16:14Vice President Mike Pence visited Fort Hood October 29th
- 16:19and visited memorial to those killed in the shooting.
- 16:22Mike Pence, the Vice president at the time, said.
- 16:25When I visited Fort Hood, he went memorial, he said.
- 16:30I walked by the comms dedicated to each individual, to the 13
- 16:34men and women who fell that day, and I was deeply moved, moved by
- 16:38the tributes to all those who were lost, like staff's Army Amy
- 16:44Krueger, who was preparing for a tour tour of duty in Afghanistan
- 16:47before that fatal day. Our specialist Jason Dean Hunt,
- 16:51who had just gotten married must before.
- 16:54Or Private First Class Francesca Velez, who had just returned
- 16:58from a tour of duty in Iraq and was and was expecting her first
- 17:01child. And that asshole took her life
- 17:03truck her mouth don't like it. He put the hammer down that
- 17:06asshole. I'll throw the switch on that
- 17:08cock sucker. I'm going to read the names off.
- 17:13I'm going to take a break here. When I come back, I'm going to
- 17:17read the names off of the people killed that shooting by that
- 17:19asshole at Fort Hood. OK.
- 17:22When I come back, what we got here, the screen.
- 17:25This is real small over here, man.
- 17:28I don't know. I'm going to come back.
- 17:32More mental health. The Interpool of the Week is
- 20:57brought to you by Jersey Mike's, a sub above the station where
- 21:03our veterans voices are heard. MBR talk.
- 21:06Hey, thanks for supporting our channel by watching and
- 21:09listening. Find us on the web.
- 21:11At NB radio dot. Hello everybody, welcome back.
- 21:20What's wrong with this? Now to the truck em out show
- 21:28what the what's that shit? OK, here we go.
- 21:47Every fucking week. Oh, here we go.
- 21:50I guess that's going on. Yeah, it's.
- 21:52So anyway, on November, back to the shooting of Fort Hood on
- 21:56November 5th. It'll be 17 years ago that this
- 21:59happened. And read off a couple of names
- 22:01and. And.
- 22:02And did a Privy to them. What happened here?
- 22:11What? I turned the speaker on it's so
- 22:16I must. Yeah, fuck it there.
- 22:18All right. So I'm going to read the names
- 22:20off these people because they deserve it.
- 22:23All right. Check.
- 22:24OK, here we go. Those killed the attack on
- 22:28November 5th 2009 or 2000. And 517 years ago.
- 22:39Yeah. 2005, November 5th, 2009. Here are the this now I'm all
- 22:47blue. Oh my God.
- 22:50Here we go. Michael.
- 22:51Michael Grant Cahill, 62, civilian physician assistant.
- 23:05Lombardo, Eduardo Coravero, 52. Major Justin Michael Decrow, 32.
- 23:13Staff Sergeant. So someone's doing
- 23:18intentionally. Stop doing it.
- 23:24John P Gaffney, 56. Captain.
- 23:36What's going on here? All right, so Frederick Green,
- 23:4129, Specialist Jason Dean Hunt, 22, Specialist Army Sue Kruger,
- 23:4629, Sergeant Aaron Thompson, the Malka 19 Private First Class.
- 23:53If I got these names a little mixed up, I'm sorry.
- 23:57What is wrong on my screen? Well, here I'm now full screen
- 24:02guy God. Michael S Pearson, 22 PF Private
- 24:18first class. I'm really sorry, but I'm not.
- 24:23Somebody's doing this somehow or something.
- 24:34Russell Gilbert, Siege Sager, 51, Captain.
- 24:41I'm just going to go ahead. Francesca Bella is 21, Private
- 24:44first Class. Juniata L Warman, 55, Lieutenant
- 24:48Colonel, and KMC Zong, 23, private first Class.
- 24:55The victims were awarded to Purple Heart.
- 24:57OK, they're ready to go to after an intervention by Congress.
- 25:00They're awarded to Purple Heart. They're in the military going.
- 25:04We're going to go over and defend our country in
- 25:08Afghanistan. And that asshole shot them down
- 25:09and killed them. A major in the army legislators
- 25:15added an amendment to 2015 defence spending bill that
- 25:19extended Purple Heart eligibility to attacks in which
- 25:23an individual was in communication with the foreign
- 25:26terrorist organization before the attack and was inspired and
- 25:29motivated by a terror group. And this asshole was this saying
- 25:33was known to be a communication with the Yemeni American M1
- 25:37Anwar al Wiki and NFS al al Qaeda propagandist, an infamous
- 25:46al Qaeda propagandist. Prior to carrying out his
- 25:49attack, Milwaukee never gave us on any specific directions, he
- 25:54said. But the Army major's
- 25:56radicalization likely to get earlier than his emails with the
- 25:59cleric, according 2018 to a 2018 review of Assan's case by George
- 26:04Washington University. Well, that ain't so hard, man.
- 26:08Death ain't good. Oh, yeah.
- 26:09Chop him freak up. You know, I got some stories
- 26:18here. He was convicted.
- 26:20He he, he, he convicted to death.
- 26:22He sentenced him to death. This assigned that killed that
- 26:25people in the army. He sentenced him to death.
- 26:27OK. A civilian police Sergeant Mark
- 26:29Todd, shot and wounded the son, ending his rampage and and he
- 26:34paralyzed the son from the waist down.
- 26:36Now, that ain't good enough for an asshole either, right?
- 26:49Yeah. Vice President Mike Pence on
- 26:51October 29th of the year was when I arrived last night.
- 26:56I stopped, paid my respects. I walked by the columns.
- 27:03Obviously there's columns down there in Fort Hood where all the
- 27:05people's names go on to to die. At least one anyway.
- 27:08Each individual one to the 13 minute when we fell that day.
- 27:11Now I was deeply moved, moved by the tributes to all those who
- 27:15were lost. That's just freaking terrible.
- 27:17You think you're safe on a military base?
- 27:19You're not. NASA will look at his sign.
- 27:21And while we're putting him to death, he's done.
- 27:24We're going to do to him. We're going to do to him.
- 27:35Glad you asshole. I'll do that myself, you
- 27:43bastard. There was I got some stories
- 27:51here of. OK, here we go.
- 27:54Here's some statistics from the Department of Defense.
- 27:57Do they just complete data? Data from the party defense for
- 28:012000. Back 2024, the Pentagon reported
- 28:0415115 documented suicide attempts among active duty
- 28:09components. You got the Army at 4:36, you
- 28:14got the Space Force at 10 suicide attempts, Marine Corps
- 28:18at 268, the Navy at 356, and the Air Force.
- 28:23The Air Force had 445. The Air Force is considerably
- 28:29lowered, considerably less than the Army, less, less service
- 28:37members and Army considerably less than anybody.
- 28:42They're smaller than the they're smaller.
- 28:47They're not. They're not in the Army.
- 28:49It's the Army. Navy.
- 28:52I guess the Air Force is much bigger than the core, but they
- 28:54have more suicide attempts per capita than than than the Army
- 28:59does. And that's, you know, there's
- 29:01something wrong. You think the Air Force,
- 29:02everybody got it made and really not Air Force had more
- 29:05documented attempted attempts 445 ahead of the Army, even
- 29:09though the Army were considerably larger.
- 29:12So there's something up with with the Air Force, man.
- 29:18Like I said, like I said, my aunt told me you're going to
- 29:20die. You're going to die and have to
- 29:21call it soon enough. And I'm seeing it now.
- 29:23I just turned 60. Don't do it.
- 29:25We can remember if you're active duty.
- 29:27If you're active duty, you know, call 988.
- 29:30If you're if you're a veteran, you know, call 988 plus one and
- 29:33you get yourself some help. I'm trucker mouth.
- 29:36I'll see you next time when you're back along the road with
- 29:40trucker mouth. You'll have a good day.
- 29:44Be safe, take care of your mental health.
