- 1:03Speaker 1: thing since the Freak's List. Every year, sportswriter Bruce Feldman
- 1:09Speaker 1: from The Athletic comes out with a list of the
- 1:11Speaker 1: biggest athletic freaks in college football in terms of strength, speed,
- 1:17Speaker 1: and explosiveness. There's one hundred and one players on the list,
- 1:21Speaker 1: and the University of Cincinnati had three of them this year.
- 1:25Speaker 1: The only school with Moore was Penn State with five.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I mentioned the three Bearcats on ACTS a few days
- 1:31Speaker 1: ago and a Bengals fan named Chris McGill responded by
- 1:35Speaker 1: asking me how many current Bengals have been on the list?
- 1:39Speaker 1: A fun question, So I look back over the last
- 1:42Speaker 1: five years and the answer is nine. They are Dylan Fairchild,
- 1:48Speaker 1: Chris Jenkins, PJ Jeweles Miles Murphy, andre Yosi Vash, DJ Turner,
- 1:54Speaker 1: Tyson Anderson, Desmond Ritter, and Jamar Chase. Seeing Pete Jay
- 2:00Speaker 1: Jewles was a bit of a surprise, but the biggest
- 2:03Speaker 1: surprise is that Shamar Stewart was not on the list.
- 2:07Speaker 1: They don't come much freakier than the Bengals first round
- 2:10Speaker 1: draft pick. Now time for radio replays from the City
- 2:15Speaker 1: of the Brotherly Shove. Good evening, everybody in Greetings from Philadelphia,
- 2:21Speaker 1: where tonight it's a matchup between the defending Super Bowl
- 2:24Speaker 1: champion and a team with Super Bowl aspirations. It's the
- 2:29Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles against the Cincinnati Bengals, and it is time
- 2:33Speaker 1: for the pig skin to fly. Here at Lincoln Financial Field,
- 2:38Speaker 1: three receivers left, one out to the right. The receiver
- 2:41Speaker 1: to the right is Chase. Here's a short pass caught
- 2:43Speaker 1: by Tanner Hudson lunging toward the goal line. Touchdown Bengals.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Tanner Hudson caught it at the three, lowered his shoulder
- 2:53Speaker 1: pads and got the football over the goal line. Ball
- 2:56Speaker 1: is inside the one and the Eagles will line up
- 3:00Speaker 1: in the tush push formation. McKee gets shoved toward the
- 3:04Speaker 1: goal line and he's in. It's a Philadelphia touchdown. Burrow
- 3:08Speaker 1: waiting for the shotgun. Snap two y two formation looks left,
- 3:12Speaker 1: throws left cock by Chase escapes a tackle racing down
- 3:16Speaker 1: the sideline. Touchdown Nie Bengals. Chamarge. Chase picking up where
- 3:22Speaker 1: he left off last year when he led the NFL
- 3:26Speaker 1: with seventeen touchdowns, and Kee Lee, Ringo's athletic supporter is
- 3:31Speaker 1: sitting on the playing surface. It is third down and
- 3:35Speaker 1: goal from the seven. McKee will look to throw his
- 3:37Speaker 1: pass into the end zone, caught for an easy touchdown
- 3:41Speaker 1: by a Nias Smith. He had a couple of yards
- 3:44Speaker 1: of separation. Way too easy in that part of the field.
- 3:48Speaker 1: McKee waits in the gun. He has the ball. He's
- 3:50Speaker 1: looking left now throws to the right. Touchdown Wow. Near
- 3:54Speaker 1: the forward right pylon. Darius Cooper calls in a perfect
- 3:59Speaker 1: throat oh from Tanner McKee.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Boy Tanner McKee is on fire.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Thompson Robinson hands it off and shun Derrick Powell bounces
- 4:09Speaker 1: it wide to the right and goes into the end zone,
- 4:12Speaker 1: standing up for the Philadelphia touchdown. Second down and eight,
- 4:16Speaker 1: Ridder fakes a hand off from the goal line, launches
- 4:20Speaker 1: a deep ball. He's got to make it open. Jamoy
- 4:23Speaker 1: Mays makes the catch. Bear Cat to bear cat and
- 4:28Speaker 1: Mays has tackled at the forty two of Philadelphia. From
- 4:31Speaker 1: the twelve yard line of Philadelphia, Ridder, looking left, floats
- 4:35Speaker 1: it into the end zone for Hudson Tanner. Hudson comes
- 4:39Speaker 1: down with a football. It's a touchdown, his second of
- 4:43Speaker 1: the game as Desmond. Ridder timed a nice touch throw
- 4:48Speaker 1: right on the sideline in the end zone and Hudson
- 4:51Speaker 1: got his feet down for the score.
- 4:52Speaker 3: He did, I mean the right foot was marvelous. The
- 4:55Speaker 3: way he got that right foot down. I mean man
- 4:59Speaker 3: tap tap.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Fourth down and nine. The Bengals a thrown twenty one
- 5:03Speaker 1: two deep safeties for Philly ritter back to throw passes
- 5:07Speaker 1: to the left and it's incomplete intended for Rashad Owens.
- 5:11Speaker 1: No penalty, flag down, and Philadelphia is going to win
- 5:14Speaker 1: the game. The final score Philly thirty four, Cincinnati twenty seven.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Here's the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good
- 5:24Speaker 1: was the play of the first team offense. Two series,
- 5:27Speaker 1: two touchdowns, a total of fifteen plays for one hundred
- 5:31Speaker 1: and forty six yards. That's nine point seven per snap.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Joe Burrow went nine for ten for one hundred and
- 5:37Speaker 1: twenty three yards, with a twelve yard touchdown past the
- 5:40Speaker 1: Tanner Hudson and a thirty six yard score to Jamar Chase.
- 5:45Speaker 1: This just in, Burrow and the Bengals offense are good.
- 5:50Speaker 1: The bad was the play of the defense. Even though
- 5:53Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, AJ Brown, and the other offensive
- 5:56Speaker 1: starters did not play for Philly, the Eagles still run
- 6:00Speaker 1: up four hundred and thirty two yards of offense three
- 6:03Speaker 1: hundred passing and one hundred and thirty two rushing and
- 6:07Speaker 1: backup quarterback Tanner McKee picked them apart, going twenty for
- 6:11Speaker 1: twenty five for two hundred and fifty two yards, with
- 6:14Speaker 1: two touchdown throws, one touchdown run, and a passer rating
- 6:18Speaker 1: of one thirty five point three. Again, that's Tanner McKee.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Then there's the ugly penalties committed on special teams. A
- 6:30Speaker 1: seventy two yard kick return by Gary Brightwell was wiped
- 6:34Speaker 1: out by holding on cam Grandy Djivy lined up off
- 6:39Speaker 1: sides on a fifty five yard field goal attempt. The
- 6:43Speaker 1: kick was no good, but the penalty helped extend the
- 6:46Speaker 1: drive and the Eagles eventually kicked a much shorter field goal. Then,
- 6:51Speaker 1: on another field goal attempt, McKinley Jackson was called for
- 6:54Speaker 1: roughing the snapper. You don't hear that one every day.
- 6:58Speaker 1: On the very next play, Philadelphia scored a touchdown to
- 7:02Speaker 1: take a seventeen point lead. Let's hear what Zach Taylor
- 7:05Speaker 1: had to say as he spent a few minutes with
- 7:07Speaker 1: Dave Lapham after the game.
- 7:10Speaker 3: First of all, coach, give us you know your overall
- 7:12Speaker 3: impressions about how you feel like your football team went
- 7:15Speaker 3: out and performed in Week one in the preseason.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Yeah, not good.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Enough.
- 7:18Speaker 4: That's a team loss right there. And there were some
- 7:20Speaker 4: silly mistakes we made that contributed straight to the seven
- 7:23Speaker 4: points just on gimmes, you know, on field goal alone,
- 7:25Speaker 4: lining up off side in the center, that's seven points.
- 7:28Speaker 4: And it was a seven point ball game.
- 7:30Speaker 5: You know.
- 7:30Speaker 4: We gave him shortfield on interception, gave him short field
- 7:33Speaker 4: on a punt return, had a kickoffer negated on a
- 7:35Speaker 4: long run because of walking the back that had nothing
- 7:39Speaker 4: to do with Philly led us to a loss, and
- 7:41Speaker 4: we can't let it happen again.
- 7:42Speaker 3: You mentioned one of the one of the big keys
- 7:44Speaker 3: to the game if you was minimizing, trying to eliminate
- 7:48Speaker 3: or minimize penalties, and there seemed to be you know,
- 7:51Speaker 3: a few penalties obviously that were very crucial and harmful
- 7:53Speaker 3: during the course of the football game.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Absolutely, and there to learn from it.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Now.
- 7:57Speaker 4: We don't want to have to learn from whatever. We
- 8:00Speaker 4: have higher expectations than that. But again, if losing this
- 8:04Speaker 4: game is going to help us be better for going forward,
- 8:06Speaker 4: then that's a good thing. But I'm still disappointed because
- 8:09Speaker 4: there were some control balls there that this could have
- 8:10Speaker 4: had a different outcome.
- 8:12Speaker 3: What do you think you did best in the football game.
- 8:15Speaker 3: When I know it's probably hard to, you know, reflect
- 8:18Speaker 3: back on everything right now. Everything's a big whirlwind right now.
- 8:22Speaker 3: But you know, as you look back, what do you
- 8:25Speaker 3: feel most proud about the football team accomplished.
- 8:28Speaker 2: The second half?
- 8:28Speaker 4: Proud of the momentum where we regain to get ourselves
- 8:30Speaker 4: back in a defense, got some stops, and the defense
- 8:34Speaker 4: isn't a tough spot because we're trying not to expose
- 8:36Speaker 4: our DV. We've got new coordinator in here, and so
- 8:38Speaker 4: we're trying to limit what we're doing, and so we're
- 8:40Speaker 4: expecting some guys to make some one on once, you know,
- 8:42Speaker 4: and there are some fifty to fifty plays that we
- 8:44Speaker 4: got to make. But I just thought, overall, the second half,
- 8:46Speaker 4: guys gave us some energy, gave us some momentum, gave
- 8:49Speaker 4: us a chance. We got the ball back down seven,
- 8:51Speaker 4: having been down by seventeen, and so I was pleased
- 8:54Speaker 4: with the fight they showed. There's That doesn't mean that
- 8:56Speaker 4: there's still not a lot to clean up though.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Individually. Can you think of does any any individual performance
- 9:03Speaker 3: that any player gave you out there tonight strike you
- 9:06Speaker 3: as that was pretty special?
- 9:07Speaker 4: Those are the things we'll have to watch, I was spat.
- 9:09Speaker 6: You know.
- 9:09Speaker 4: The first team offense went down there and scored fourteen points,
- 9:11Speaker 4: and just about every play was a positive play to
- 9:14Speaker 4: my eye. So that's something we can continue to build
- 9:17Speaker 4: on as a team, and you know, we'll watch the
- 9:20Speaker 4: tape to get specific performances.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Joe burrow and had one incompletion, and he threw two
- 9:25Speaker 3: touchdown passes and he had a third that was called back.
- 9:28Speaker 3: So obviously he executed a pretty high level for you.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Didn't he Yeah, there's not much more to say about that.
- 9:34Speaker 4: He'll probably tell you'd rather go ten for ten, which,
- 9:36Speaker 4: of course, but pleased without how that group started.
- 9:40Speaker 3: You mentioned that the second offensive group was having a
- 9:44Speaker 3: tough time finding its rhythm, finding its timing. Was that
- 9:47Speaker 3: Jake was it? Everybody was it a combination.
- 9:49Speaker 4: They collective effort, and the quarterback leads to the group,
- 9:52Speaker 4: it's collective effort. There's some things he can't see even
- 9:54Speaker 4: happening as the play's developing, you know, right in front
- 9:55Speaker 4: of him that we got to be better at. So
- 9:58Speaker 4: definitely not putting it on any one person, this as
- 10:00Speaker 4: a whole. We got to be better with the second.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Group, the offensive line and defensive line, two areas where
- 10:06Speaker 3: you're looking for added depth, improve depth as a football team,
- 10:10Speaker 3: particularly in the interior. When you're looking at the guard
- 10:13Speaker 3: position in the defensive tackle position, how do you think
- 10:15Speaker 3: those positions performed for you to time?
- 10:17Speaker 7: It was too hard to tell.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a tough one to tell right now. You know,
- 10:19Speaker 4: we'll go back and watch it and see where the
- 10:22Speaker 4: good was and the bad was and assess it from there.
- 10:25Speaker 3: So anybody, any younger player, step out, you know, step up,
- 10:31Speaker 3: catch your eye, make a big play, do something that
- 10:33Speaker 3: was unexpected, or did exactly what they were supposed to
- 10:36Speaker 3: do snap after snap.
- 10:38Speaker 4: I mean, it was good to see the big turnover
- 10:41Speaker 4: you know, that got us back in the scoring position
- 10:43Speaker 4: there that they had to a touchdown drive for us.
- 10:46Speaker 4: So that was that was a great turna momentum there.
- 10:48Speaker 4: So again it's there's some things obviously we have to
- 10:51Speaker 4: go back through and I don't want to hire somebody
- 10:53Speaker 4: good or bad until I've seen more of the tape.
- 10:56Speaker 3: So now you get to travel back to Cincinnati. Obviously
- 10:59Speaker 3: it's a late night games, some some tough travel back
- 11:03Speaker 3: to Cincinnati and uh and get back at get get
- 11:06Speaker 3: back out in the practice field. What do you think
- 11:08Speaker 3: is the first thing you're going to try to address.
- 11:11Speaker 4: We just have to be sharper from top to bottom,
- 11:13Speaker 4: you know. And the penalties really I think are the
- 11:18Speaker 4: biggest thing that we just changed that and those are
- 11:21Speaker 4: control balls on our end, that's nothing Philly did whatsoever.
- 11:25Speaker 4: Then we were likely had a chance to walk away
- 11:28Speaker 4: with a win. And so obviously there's there's some exes,
- 11:30Speaker 4: those things we got to clean up. There's some drops
- 11:32Speaker 4: we had during the game. Those are all things that
- 11:35Speaker 4: we're going to obviously talk about as the practice goes on.
- 11:37Speaker 4: But it was the silly mistakes that are completely unabordable
- 11:40Speaker 4: pre snap, immediately post that penalties that we can't tolerate.
- 11:44Speaker 1: It's hard to pick somebody other than Burrow for the
- 11:47Speaker 1: Bengals star of the game, but tight end Tanner Hudson
- 11:50Speaker 1: deserves a shout out. With Mike is sick, he nursing
- 11:53Speaker 1: a sore hamstring and Noah Fant not up to speed
- 11:56Speaker 1: yet after just signing a few days ago, Hudson and
- 12:00Speaker 1: played nearly the entire game and finished with six catches
- 12:04Speaker 1: for sixty two yards, had a pair of touchdowns. I
- 12:07Speaker 1: spoke to him after the game. We're in the locker
- 12:11Speaker 1: room with Timmer Hudson six catches, sixty two yards and
- 12:14Speaker 1: a pair of touchdowns. Let's talk about the first You
- 12:17Speaker 1: got Joe Burrow in the first team offense out there
- 12:19Speaker 1: in the opening drive. I thought it was a great statement.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Did you march right down the field scored a touchdown
- 12:24Speaker 1: Andy with your twelve yard catch.
- 12:25Speaker 6: Yeah, it felt good, you know, especially when you got
- 12:28Speaker 6: you know, Jamar and t outside of you and then
- 12:30Speaker 6: Dre inside. You know, that creates some space in the
- 12:33Speaker 6: field and took advantage of it and got the end zone.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I don't know if the first team offense needs any
- 12:39Speaker 1: extra confidence at this point, but when you have two
- 12:41Speaker 1: drives and scored two touchdowns, if this kind of reinforced
- 12:44Speaker 1: the notion that this should be one of the higher
- 12:47Speaker 1: scoring teams in the NFL, doesn't.
- 12:49Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree, But you know there's always stuff to
- 12:51Speaker 6: build on, always stuff to improve.
- 12:53Speaker 7: Get in watch the film.
- 12:55Speaker 2: And get better each and every day.
- 12:56Speaker 6: You know, when you got playmakers like you know we
- 12:59Speaker 6: have on our team, expect to be one of the best,
- 13:01Speaker 6: if not the.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Best, offensive in the league. So, you know, like I said,
- 13:05Speaker 2: just got to continue stag days.
- 13:07Speaker 1: On that first touchdown, you looked like a swimmer trying
- 13:11Speaker 1: to touch the wall. Your your legs were off the ground,
- 13:16Speaker 1: ball fully extended. That was a great job to get
- 13:18Speaker 1: the ball of the line.
- 13:19Speaker 7: Yeah, I appreciate it.
- 13:20Speaker 6: Yeah, tried to, you know, try to keep the knees off.
- 13:22Speaker 6: I feel like most of the time people come down
- 13:24Speaker 6: and you know you need touches.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Right before you extend.
- 13:26Speaker 6: So just gotta try to straighten those legs out and
- 13:28Speaker 6: you can get the ball cost plane and.
- 13:30Speaker 7: Then touchdown number two.
- 13:32Speaker 1: We saw your footwork because that was a heck of
- 13:34Speaker 1: a right foot toe tap to get both feet down.
- 13:37Speaker 7: Yeah. Yeah, I knew I was getting close.
- 13:39Speaker 6: Does put it in really the only place that I
- 13:42Speaker 6: could catch it dropped in the bucket, So incredible throw by.
- 13:46Speaker 7: Him, and then you know, just trusting me to get
- 13:47Speaker 7: the job done.
- 13:48Speaker 2: On lie In.
- 13:49Speaker 1: You made a bit of a statement in the last
- 13:51Speaker 1: week not to be forgotten for what you can contribute
- 13:54Speaker 1: to this offense.
- 13:56Speaker 7: I don't know if I'm looking at it like that.
- 13:58Speaker 7: I'm more so just you know, control what I can.
- 14:00Speaker 6: Control out there, trying to do my best each and
- 14:03Speaker 6: every day to show that you know I can and
- 14:05Speaker 6: have played well in.
- 14:06Speaker 1: This league and we'll continue to appreciate your time.
- 14:09Speaker 7: Congrats on a great game. Thank you.
- 14:11Speaker 1: M up next a road game against the Washington Commanders
- 14:16Speaker 1: coming up a week from Monday. The Bengals Booth Podcast
- 14:19Speaker 1: is brought to you by pay Corps, Proud to be
- 14:21Speaker 1: the Bengals Official HR software provider, by Alta Fiber future
- 14:26Speaker 1: Proof Fiber Internet designed elevate your home, business and community
- 14:30Speaker 1: to a new level, and by Kettering Health, the best
- 14:33Speaker 1: care for the best fans. Kettering Health is the official
- 14:36Speaker 1: healthcare provider of the Bengals. Now time for the radio
- 14:40Speaker 1: guys recap. Let's start with the biggest positive, and that
- 14:45Speaker 1: would be the play of the first team offense. They
- 14:47Speaker 1: got to play at quarter. As Zach Taylor said, they
- 14:49Speaker 1: would couldn't have gone any better. Two drives, two touchdowns,
- 14:53Speaker 1: two TD passes for Joe Burrow.
- 14:55Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, honestly do astronomenal.
- 14:57Speaker 3: I thought, you know, and you have a third touchdown
- 14:59Speaker 3: past of was nullified by penalty, So I mean he
- 15:02Speaker 3: went nine to ten, really ten for eleven. You know,
- 15:06Speaker 3: I guess you'd probably like to get that first pass
- 15:09Speaker 3: back and complete it and have a perfect day. I
- 15:11Speaker 3: mean the guy's quarterback ratings astronomical anyway. But that's the
- 15:14Speaker 3: way he plays the game. It doesn't matter if it's
- 15:17Speaker 3: a scrimmage, intersquad scrimmage, preseason game, regular season game, postseason game.
- 15:23Speaker 3: He takes every game in a serious mindset with a
- 15:28Speaker 3: desire to learn and improve and make his game better
- 15:33Speaker 3: every way he possibly can.
- 15:35Speaker 7: He was well protected on those two drives.
- 15:37Speaker 3: He was I thought, I thought the offensive line stepped
- 15:41Speaker 3: up and played well. I thought Dylan Fairchild had a
- 15:44Speaker 3: strong game. All the other guys who pretty much you know,
- 15:47Speaker 3: had been there, done that before, and let's be honest,
- 15:51Speaker 3: that the Philadelphia because didn't have their best group out there.
- 15:54Speaker 3: So you know, that's a factor when you get your
- 15:56Speaker 3: number one is working against guys that aren't their number one.
- 16:00Speaker 7: As necessarily, you'd hope that things.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Might end up slanting your way a little bit in
- 16:04Speaker 3: terms of performance and execution, But the fact is you
- 16:08Speaker 3: still have to go out there and do it. You
- 16:09Speaker 3: have to still have to go out there and perform
- 16:10Speaker 3: and play, and even if it's against Eric, you still
- 16:13Speaker 3: have to go out there and perform and play. So
- 16:16Speaker 3: I think overall that's probably the brightest spot I think
- 16:20Speaker 3: of the of the of the night is that Joe
- 16:22Speaker 3: Burrow and the two receivers were lights out, and that's
- 16:27Speaker 3: what they hope and expect and anticipate would be the
- 16:30Speaker 3: case every week this season.
- 16:31Speaker 1: The biggest negative in my mind is the fact that
- 16:34Speaker 1: the first team defense gave up two scoring drives to
- 16:38Speaker 1: the Eagles second team offense and quarterback Tanner McKee. He
- 16:41Speaker 1: looked really good. Would you like to think that as
- 16:43Speaker 1: well as those guys have performed by and larger training camp,
- 16:47Speaker 1: they could have at least forced one point?
- 16:49Speaker 7: Yeah, I agree.
- 16:50Speaker 3: I think they're probably all kind of disappointed for sure
- 16:54Speaker 3: in the way that the way that the whole thing
- 16:58Speaker 3: evolved and unfolded to not make the Philadelphi Eagles punt
- 17:04Speaker 3: one time with Tana McGee at the quarterback position is
- 17:07Speaker 3: not something that I think they felt like it was
- 17:09Speaker 3: gonna be the case going into the game. But just
- 17:11Speaker 3: like we talked about, you know, with the offense on
- 17:14Speaker 3: a snap by snap basis, you have to go out.
- 17:16Speaker 7: There and perform, and they didn't.
- 17:21Speaker 3: They didn't step up enough, didn't make enough players when
- 17:23Speaker 3: the players were there to be made to get the
- 17:26Speaker 3: Eagles off the football field to disrupt their rhythm and timing,
- 17:29Speaker 3: and they just they just got into a mindset where
- 17:33Speaker 3: things were very very smooth, very very.
- 17:35Speaker 7: Easy for them.
- 17:36Speaker 3: A lot of yards after catch after contact, too many
- 17:41Speaker 3: penalties that that cost the defense. You give any professional
- 17:47Speaker 3: football player second opportunity, they're gonna make good on it,
- 17:50Speaker 3: and the Eagles did that tonight with regularity.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Two touchdown catches for Tanner Hudson. We talked about it
- 17:57Speaker 1: during the game. They recently picked up no A paint.
- 18:00Speaker 1: They have Mike get SICKI and don't know exactly what
- 18:03Speaker 1: his role is going to be going forward, but he
- 18:05Speaker 1: certainly showed the win.
- 18:07Speaker 7: Given opportunities, he can make plays. Yeah, that's that's a fact,
- 18:11Speaker 7: you know. And and uh, I think I think they
- 18:14Speaker 7: got to be proud of Tanner HUDs No.
- 18:15Speaker 3: I mean, you know, he's a he's a guy that
- 18:18Speaker 3: you know, everybody just never considers him. And when they
- 18:23Speaker 3: start to make a player count at the position, you know,
- 18:26Speaker 3: it's always like, oh yeah, and then there's there's Tanner Hudson.
- 18:29Speaker 7: That's right.
- 18:29Speaker 3: And they're going and pick up tight ends in the offseason,
- 18:33Speaker 3: right before the season starts, pick up another tight end.
- 18:35Speaker 3: But oh yeah, yeah, that's right. You know, we still
- 18:38Speaker 3: have Tanner Hudson. He goes out there and starts to
- 18:40Speaker 3: right and shows up, shows up and makes plays. Can't
- 18:43Speaker 3: ask for more than that. I mean, he uh, what
- 18:47Speaker 3: do you have five catches for like.
- 18:50Speaker 7: Sixty some odd yards?
- 18:51Speaker 1: I think it was six catches for sixty two yards
- 18:54Speaker 1: and two TVs.
- 18:56Speaker 3: That's good night's work. You know, you get six catches,
- 19:00Speaker 3: two of them go for scores. It's a good ratio
- 19:03Speaker 3: right there, a very good percentage, you know, sixty plus
- 19:06Speaker 3: yards out of the tight end position and taking advantage
- 19:08Speaker 3: in the middle of the football field like he did.
- 19:10Speaker 7: You know, it makes it easier and better.
- 19:11Speaker 3: For the outside guys to operate and manipulate, you know,
- 19:16Speaker 3: their people one on one.
- 19:17Speaker 7: On the perimeter. And when you.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Get Jamar Chase and t Higgins on the outside, when
- 19:23Speaker 3: you're in high cotton right there, you have mismatches waiting
- 19:26Speaker 3: to happen. So I think Tanner Hudson is gonna still
- 19:31Speaker 3: surprise the people. Every year he surprises people by what
- 19:33Speaker 3: he contributes to the football team. I think this year
- 19:36Speaker 3: is going to be no exception. I think that he
- 19:38Speaker 3: is going to make some plays and some football games
- 19:41Speaker 3: are going to be like, man, what if we didn't
- 19:43Speaker 3: have Tanner Hudson? And that says a lot.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Defensively, statistically, the guy that popped the most tould be
- 19:51Speaker 1: McKinley Jackson. He had three tackles for loss our running plays.
- 19:54Speaker 7: That was good.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I'm not sure that anybody else really stood out to
- 19:59Speaker 1: be Shimart.
- 19:59Speaker 7: Stewart actually splashed a little bit when he was in
- 20:02Speaker 7: the game.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Defensively, Other than that, I can't really say that anybody
- 20:06Speaker 1: shown in my opinion, Yeah.
- 20:08Speaker 3: I would very much agree with that, Dan, you know,
- 20:11Speaker 3: I think I think you're gonna give m ckinny Jackson credit,
- 20:14Speaker 3: you know. I mean he's trying to be a pros pro,
- 20:19Speaker 3: get himself, give himself ready to perform on a snap
- 20:22Speaker 3: by snap basis knowing that you've got, you know, X
- 20:27Speaker 3: amount of snaps from an opportunity standpoint, so you have
- 20:30Speaker 3: to go maximize each and every one of them. And
- 20:31Speaker 3: I think that's the mindset that he wanted to a
- 20:33Speaker 3: football game with. I thought that team played hard every
- 20:38Speaker 3: single snap, and on three occasions it turned into negative
- 20:43Speaker 3: players tackle philos I mean, when you're doing that for
- 20:46Speaker 3: your your defense and then helping the offense by you know,
- 20:50Speaker 3: picking up additional hidden yards.
- 20:52Speaker 7: You know, you're you're making an impact on the football game,
- 20:54Speaker 7: and and.
- 20:55Speaker 3: That that you know, that's his goal somehow influenced impact
- 20:58Speaker 3: the football game with the snaps.
- 21:00Speaker 7: And he's been given money.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Mack was good and special teams, but way too many
- 21:05Speaker 1: penalties in that year.
- 21:06Speaker 3: At tonight exactly, I mean, I bet Darren Simmons is
- 21:10Speaker 3: pissed off. There's no there's no question. He's not a
- 21:13Speaker 3: happy camper in the locker room right now. Everybody's going
- 21:15Speaker 3: to give him his distance, but you know they'll he'll
- 21:19Speaker 3: review the tape. Who reviewed the tape with his players
- 21:22Speaker 3: and and uh rectify that issue. I don't I don't
- 21:26Speaker 3: think that's gonna be a season long problem with special teams,
- 21:32Speaker 3: you know, costing the Cincinnati Bengals big plays and yards
- 21:36Speaker 3: and potential returns and all that with with silly kind
- 21:40Speaker 3: of the mistakes. I just can't foresee that. I think, uh,
- 21:43Speaker 3: I think Darren Simmons will kill everybody.
- 21:45Speaker 1: First, the long journey is underway. Didn't begin with a
- 21:50Speaker 1: win tonight, but hey, the loss doesn't count.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Yeah it is, it's a big Orlando It's yeah, it's
- 21:59Speaker 3: it's number one in the books. First preseason game in
- 22:02Speaker 3: the twenty twenty five season did not go the way
- 22:06Speaker 3: that hope are expected.
- 22:07Speaker 7: But as you said, doesn't mean a hill of beans
- 22:11Speaker 7: when you're.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Trying to, you know, generate a playoff spot at the
- 22:15Speaker 3: end of the season, win the division they advanced to,
- 22:19Speaker 3: the to the playoffs, advance to the AFC Championship Game,
- 22:24Speaker 3: and ultimately win the Super Bowl's that's the goal, and
- 22:28Speaker 3: I think this team's good enough to do it.
- 22:29Speaker 7: I really do. I mean, this.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Preseason game is not going to change my opinion and
- 22:34Speaker 3: my feeling about what they've got in this locker room.
- 22:37Speaker 3: I think these guys all played hard. I think another
- 22:40Speaker 3: positive sign was when they fell behind, they rallied back.
- 22:44Speaker 3: You know, it didn't just you know, spit the bit
- 22:47Speaker 3: it's over. They rallied back and had a chance to
- 22:50Speaker 3: tie the football game down the stretch.
- 22:51Speaker 7: And that's what you hope for.
- 22:53Speaker 1: That puts a wrap on the preseason opener. Now it's
- 22:56Speaker 1: time for this week's fun fact segment. In his final
- 22:59Speaker 1: News Got Prince before this game, Joe Burrow was asked
- 23:02Speaker 1: a question about andre Yosi Vash and wound up talking
- 23:06Speaker 1: about the team's depth at wide receiver.
- 23:08Speaker 5: Yeah, he's having a great camp.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Now.
- 23:10Speaker 5: Everybody knows I'm gonna throw a number one at number five.
- 23:14Speaker 5: But there's a lot of teams that do a really
- 23:16Speaker 5: good job of, you know, taking those two guys away.
- 23:20Speaker 5: And when you have a guy like Andre, you have
- 23:23Speaker 5: a guy like Mike Main Chuck both really stepping up
- 23:27Speaker 5: this camp. Now we're we're as deep as we've been
- 23:30Speaker 5: at the receiver position since I've been here. And then
- 23:34Speaker 5: you have guys like Mitch ands in Isaiah having great
- 23:38Speaker 5: camps as well. I feel great about where that room is.
- 23:44Speaker 5: And you know there's gonna be injuries, guys are gonna
- 23:47Speaker 5: go down, and we have guys that we can play
- 23:48Speaker 5: right in.
- 23:48Speaker 1: So, in addition to discussing Andre, Joe mentioned Mike as
- 23:52Speaker 1: in Gasiki, Maine as in Jermaine Burton, Chuck as in
- 23:56Speaker 1: Charlie Jones, Isaiah as in Isaiah William who joined the
- 24:00Speaker 1: team with six games to go last year. And he
- 24:03Speaker 1: also threw in the name Mitch. That caught my ear
- 24:07Speaker 1: because we haven't heard much about Mitchell Tinsley. So let's
- 24:11Speaker 1: get to know the person under the pads. Time for
- 24:16Speaker 1: some fun facts with wide receiver Mitch Tinsley from Lee's Summit, Missouri,
- 24:20Speaker 1: near Kansas City. We won't judge you. Were you a
- 24:24Speaker 1: Chiefs fan growing up?
- 24:26Speaker 8: I was definitely, you know, growing up in Kansas said
- 24:28Speaker 8: you can't help but be as she's fan.
- 24:31Speaker 2: But you know I'm all Bengals now.
- 24:33Speaker 1: No doubt about that. And along those lines, Joe Burrow
- 24:37Speaker 1: recently said we are as deep at the receiver position
- 24:41Speaker 1: as we've been since I've been here. And then the
- 24:43Speaker 1: first name he mentioned after that sentence was yours. Did
- 24:47Speaker 1: you hear that or hear about it? And what do
- 24:50Speaker 1: you think?
- 24:51Speaker 8: I didn't necessarily hear it, but my mom she had
- 24:54Speaker 8: mentioned it to me when I got home after practice
- 24:56Speaker 8: that day.
- 24:57Speaker 2: But yeah, that's pretty cool.
- 24:59Speaker 1: The Joe Burrows shout out is a good thing because
- 25:02Speaker 1: you have to develop trust with that guy, and clearly
- 25:04Speaker 1: you're in the process of doing that.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Yeah, most definitely.
- 25:06Speaker 8: I think for the most part, it just comes down to,
- 25:09Speaker 8: you know, coming in here, doing my work, keeping my
- 25:11Speaker 8: head down, and you know, know one to do when
- 25:13Speaker 8: I'm out there.
- 25:14Speaker 1: We're visiting the wide receiver Mitch Tinsley, The Bengals are
- 25:17Speaker 1: your second NFL team, You spent the last couple of
- 25:19Speaker 1: years in Washington, and yet you only played one year
- 25:23Speaker 1: of high school football. Why only one?
- 25:26Speaker 8: Uh well, football was always my first love. It's kind
- 25:30Speaker 8: of one of them things that you know, growing up
- 25:31Speaker 8: my parents were separated, I wanted to play other sports,
- 25:35Speaker 8: and you know, when middle school team came around for basketball,
- 25:39Speaker 8: I wanted to really try that.
- 25:40Speaker 2: So I had to go hoop dreams for a second.
- 25:42Speaker 2: And so I took a break.
- 25:43Speaker 8: From football, and I was mainly just doing basketball for
- 25:46Speaker 8: the most part. I did a little track also, but
- 25:49Speaker 8: then I came back out I was missing it, and
- 25:51Speaker 8: I came back my senior year.
- 25:53Speaker 1: It all worked out in the end. But when you
- 25:55Speaker 1: play just one year of high school football, it's hard
- 25:58Speaker 1: to get a lot of interest from college team. And
- 26:00Speaker 1: you started out as a walk on at Hutchinson Community College?
- 26:05Speaker 1: How did you wind up there?
- 26:07Speaker 2: So?
- 26:07Speaker 8: As crazy is you know the recruiting process for me,
- 26:10Speaker 8: I didn't really have much attention. There was some d
- 26:12Speaker 8: two schools that you know, were sort of interested. They
- 26:15Speaker 8: wanted me to walk on, but my ACT score wasn't
- 26:17Speaker 8: good enough, so I tried to retake it a couple
- 26:20Speaker 8: times insteadn't get a high enough score to get in
- 26:24Speaker 8: so Juco. And I always felt like I felt like
- 26:27Speaker 8: I could play the Division Division one level. I had
- 26:29Speaker 8: those dreams, I had those aspirations. So Juco was another
- 26:32Speaker 8: opportunity to give me a chance or a shot at
- 26:34Speaker 8: getting there. So that's kind of how that happened. And
- 26:37Speaker 8: then I had a recruiter. It was so bad that
- 26:40Speaker 8: like I had a recruiter who was kind of sending emails,
- 26:42Speaker 8: I'll sending my tape out to people. And he had
- 26:45Speaker 8: told me about there was a walk on spot or
- 26:48Speaker 8: a walk on tryout there at Hudgerson Community College. And
- 26:51Speaker 8: went there and you know the rest of his history.
- 26:53Speaker 1: You certainly made the most of it. After two years there,
- 26:56Speaker 1: you transferred to Western Kentucky and in twenty twenty one
- 27:00Speaker 1: you had eighty seven catches for more than fourteen hundred
- 27:03Speaker 1: yards and fourteen touchdowns. At that point, did you start
- 27:07Speaker 1: to think that the NFL was a realistic possibility?
- 27:11Speaker 2: What's crazy?
- 27:11Speaker 7: Is?
- 27:11Speaker 8: I mean, even coming from those circumstances, I always felt
- 27:14Speaker 8: like I would be there for somehow, some way I
- 27:17Speaker 8: was gonna get there.
- 27:19Speaker 2: But yeah, it became more realistic after that year. You know, I.
- 27:21Speaker 8: Had some really big games against some powerfile schools.
- 27:25Speaker 2: You know, I think everything just kind of came together
- 27:27Speaker 2: that year.
- 27:28Speaker 1: You spent your final college season at Penn State, where
- 27:31Speaker 1: your quarterback and one of your roommates was Sean Clifford.
- 27:35Speaker 1: He's from Cincinnati, he went to Saint Xavier High School.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Are you two still in touch and if so, has
- 27:40Speaker 1: he told you anything about Cincinnati.
- 27:42Speaker 8: I haven't really talked to him about Cincinnati, but yeah,
- 27:44Speaker 8: me and him were still in touch. I was actually
- 27:46Speaker 8: probably about a month and a half ago. I was
- 27:48Speaker 8: at his wedding. He just got married up in Philly.
- 27:51Speaker 8: So yeah, we definitely keep in touch with pretty close.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Your final game at Penn State was the Rose Bowl,
- 27:58Speaker 1: a win over Utah. You had six catch which including
- 28:00Speaker 1: a touchdown in that game. Considering your journey one year
- 28:04Speaker 1: of high school football, starting out as a walk on
- 28:07Speaker 1: it at the junior college level, was it surreal to
- 28:10Speaker 1: walk off that field as a Rose Bowl champion?
- 28:13Speaker 8: It definitely was, for sure, because you know the whole
- 28:17Speaker 8: reason I wore number five from college and as a kid,
- 28:21Speaker 8: I was Alrobady, like five or six years old.
- 28:22Speaker 2: USC had played Texas against Vince.
- 28:26Speaker 8: Yeah, Vince Young, Yeah, and so, and Reggie Bush was
- 28:30Speaker 8: my favorite player, and you know, that was a rose
- 28:32Speaker 8: ball game. And for me to be able to end
- 28:34Speaker 8: up in that situation coming from the circumstances I came from,
- 28:39Speaker 8: is it definitely you know, was a dream come true.
- 28:41Speaker 8: But at that moment, I was more focused on, you know,
- 28:44Speaker 8: what was the next steps and get into my ultimate goal.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Why was Reggie Bush your favorite player?
- 28:49Speaker 8: He just I don't know, it was it was just
- 28:51Speaker 8: something about he's on the cover and ce double a.
- 28:53Speaker 2: He just he just had to swagger about him.
- 28:55Speaker 8: He was, you know in La you know, he was
- 28:58Speaker 8: at USC that was like really in my dream school.
- 29:01Speaker 8: It was I don't know, It's just everything, the whole
- 29:03Speaker 8: combination of everything just really just made me. And they
- 29:06Speaker 8: were winning national championship at the time, Like, he was
- 29:08Speaker 8: just one of my favorite players.
- 29:10Speaker 1: After Penn State, it was onto the NFL. You started
- 29:12Speaker 1: your career with the Washington Commanders, and in your third
- 29:15Speaker 1: preseason game, you caught a thirty eight yard touchdown pass
- 29:19Speaker 1: from Jacoby Brissett against the Bengals. It included a great
- 29:23Speaker 1: spin move to blow by Jordan Battle. Has that come
- 29:27Speaker 1: up now that you two are teammates.
- 29:29Speaker 8: Now I hasn't came up yet. I haven't really, you know,
- 29:32Speaker 8: brought it up or anything like that. But it's kind
- 29:33Speaker 8: of crazy how how it all, you know, came together,
- 29:36Speaker 8: and how I'm here now.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Do you think he knows you were that guy?
- 29:40Speaker 2: I'm not sure. I'm sure you. You probably would have
- 29:42Speaker 2: to ask him. I'm not sure. I haven't really haven't
- 29:44Speaker 2: really talked to him about it.
- 29:45Speaker 1: I might have to bring it up, see what he says.
- 29:47Speaker 2: It was definitely.
- 29:49Speaker 1: We're visiting with wide receiver Mitch Tinsley. You spent last
- 29:52Speaker 1: year in Washington's practice squad, so she got a first
- 29:55Speaker 1: hand look at rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who had a
- 29:57Speaker 1: fantastic season. He's a high Trophy winner from LSU. You
- 30:02Speaker 1: are currently playing with a HEIGHSPO Trophy winner from LSU
- 30:04Speaker 1: and Joe Burrow. What are those two guys have in common,
- 30:08Speaker 1: if anything, on or off the field.
- 30:11Speaker 2: I think it's just how they prepare.
- 30:12Speaker 8: As far as their mentality, I think they're very dedicated
- 30:16Speaker 8: and you know, they take their work very serious. I
- 30:18Speaker 8: think they're very detailed oriented when it comes to just everything,
- 30:21Speaker 8: knowing everybody's responsibilities, knowing what they have to do and
- 30:25Speaker 8: also when plays break down and knowing just how to
- 30:28Speaker 8: operate when under pressure.
- 30:31Speaker 1: How does catching a ball compare from each of them?
- 30:34Speaker 8: I would definitely say they both though you know a
- 30:36Speaker 8: great ball for sure, you know. I think with Jayden,
- 30:40Speaker 8: he you never know where he's gonna be at in
- 30:42Speaker 8: the pocket. He could be moving, he could be doing
- 30:44Speaker 8: things like that. I think that's really the only two
- 30:47Speaker 8: different things that kind of separate the two as far
- 30:50Speaker 8: as Jaden's just you know, athleticism. But for the most part,
- 30:53Speaker 8: they both though you know, really great balls.
- 30:55Speaker 1: All right, a few wild card topics now for wide
- 30:57Speaker 1: receiver Mitch Tinsley. You already mentioned that Reggie Bush was
- 31:02Speaker 1: your favorite football player growing up. How about from another sport?
- 31:05Speaker 1: Do you have a favorite athlete from something other than football?
- 31:09Speaker 8: It would most definitely be either Muhammad Ali or Kobe Bryant.
- 31:14Speaker 8: Those are probably my two favorite like players or athletes
- 31:18Speaker 8: from other sports that I really you know, find inspiration
- 31:22Speaker 8: from or just as far as you know, the way
- 31:25Speaker 8: they attacked their craft.
- 31:26Speaker 1: I really appreciate that Kobe Bryant is a common answer
- 31:30Speaker 1: among people your age. Muhammad Ali not as much. Why
- 31:33Speaker 1: Muhammad a LEI.
- 31:34Speaker 8: For you, I think it's just everything he stood for
- 31:36Speaker 8: as far as you know, the air he grew up
- 31:38Speaker 8: in and you know, came up in, as far as
- 31:40Speaker 8: you know, things he had to deal with and on
- 31:43Speaker 8: the mean, you know, out the ring, in the ring,
- 31:46Speaker 8: as far as you know, just the pressure that comes
- 31:48Speaker 8: with being a big name, and also you know the
- 31:50Speaker 8: pressure that comes with you know, dealing with the things
- 31:53Speaker 8: that were going on at that time.
- 31:54Speaker 2: So I think for.
- 31:55Speaker 8: Me, it's just you know, really just being able to
- 31:58Speaker 8: It's a good testament of how to stay focused and
- 32:02Speaker 8: stay poised and you know, just do what you do
- 32:04Speaker 8: when you're in your craft.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Next wild card question, what have you saved from your
- 32:09Speaker 1: sports career that's meaningful to you?
- 32:14Speaker 8: I'd say for me, when I got my first Division
- 32:16Speaker 8: on offer when I was at Hutchinson Community College, it was,
- 32:20Speaker 8: you know, I was just going D one was you know,
- 32:23Speaker 8: a dream for me, and you know when I finally
- 32:25Speaker 8: got that call in that offer that day, it was
- 32:27Speaker 8: it was definitely probably one of the happiest days I
- 32:29Speaker 8: had so far.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Aside from sports.
- 32:33Speaker 8: Do you have any talents, I would say so, I'm
- 32:37Speaker 8: very artistic. I like to draw, but also video game.
- 32:41Speaker 8: I'm kind of nerdy, so like when it comes to
- 32:43Speaker 8: like out outside of football, like, I'm really video games.
- 32:47Speaker 8: I like, I like playing pretty much all video games
- 32:49Speaker 8: and things like that. Yeah, that's I would say those
- 32:52Speaker 8: are probably my two things that I do the most.
- 32:54Speaker 1: What types of things do you like to draw?
- 32:57Speaker 8: I'm a very like pencil person, so like as far
