- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, June 14th.
- 0:11Wisdom over anger. Life can feel like a storm
- 0:15sometimes. Maybe it's a parent who doesn't
- 0:18understand you, a sibling who drives you absolutely crazy, a
- 0:23friend who betrayed your trust, a situation at school that feels
- 0:27completely unfair. And in those moments, the
- 0:30pressure to react, to say something sharp, to fight back,
- 0:33to let people know exactly how you feel is intense.
- 0:38Proverbs chapter 17, verses 25 to 27 give us a picture of what
- 0:43wisdom looks like in those moments.
- 0:45One who has knowledge restrains his words, and a man of
- 0:48understanding is calm, restraint, calmness.
- 0:53These aren't signs of weakness or passivity.
- 0:56They're signs of a person who knows who they are, who their
- 0:59God is, and that not every moment requires a reaction.
- 1:04David describes the opposite feeling in Psalm 69 verses one
- 1:07and two. Save me, oh God, for the waters
- 1:11have come up to my neck. I sink in deep mire where there
- 1:14is no foothold. He feels completely overwhelmed,
- 1:18like he's drowning, and he doesn't pretend otherwise.
- 1:22He doesn't perform. He goes directly to God with the
- 1:25full weight of it. That honesty with God in the
- 1:28middle of being overwhelmed is not weakness, it's wisdom.
- 1:32It's saying, I can't handle this alone and I'm not going to
- 1:36pretend I can. And then there's one of the most
- 1:39powerful verses in all of Scripture for those who feel
- 1:42judged by appearances or misunderstood by people.
- 1:46First Samuel chapter 16 verse 7, God speaks to Samuel and says do
- 1:52not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature
- 1:55because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man
- 1:58sees. Man looks on the outward
- 2:01appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.
- 2:04God is not evaluating you by your performance, your grades,
- 2:07your social status or how you look in front of people.
- 2:11He sees your heart. So here's the invitation.
- 2:15When life brings storms, bring them to God before you bring
- 2:18them to your social media. Respond rather than react.
- 2:22Choose calm over conflict. Let people misunderstand you if
- 2:26they need to, because the One who truly sees you sees
- 2:29everything, and he's working something in you, even in the
- 2:32hard moments. Let's pray.
- 2:36Heavenly Father, thank you for seeing our hearts and not just
- 2:40our behavior when we feel overwhelmed.
- 2:42Teach us to bring that to You before we react.
- 2:45Help us to restrain our words when anger wants to take over
- 2:49and to trust that you are working even in the middle of
- 2:51our storms. Guard our hearts in our mouths
- 2:55and help us respond with wisdom in Jesus name, Amen.
- 3:01When a loved one's marriage is under strain, you may not know
- 3:04what to say, but you can still know how to pray.
- 3:08The Marriage Intercessor series gives tender, faith filled
- 3:11language for standing before God when misunderstanding, distance,
- 3:15conflict, and wounded hearts threaten a covenant.
- 3:19These prayer scripts help you intercede with mercy, wisdom and
- 3:22hope, asking God to soften what is hardened, heal what has been
- 3:27bruised, and restore peace where tension has taken root.
- 3:30From broken communication to division, to emotional repair,
- 3:34reconciliation and renewed strength, this series is for
- 3:38every prayerful heart carrying another couple before the Lord.

- 3:56Now I invite you to spend time with God in today's three-year
- 3:59Bible reading plan. Proverbs Chapter 17 Verses 25 to
- 4:0426 World English Bible A foolish son brings grief to his father
- 4:10and bitterness to her who bore him.
- 4:13Also to punish the righteous is not good, nor to flog officials
- 4:16for their integrity. Psalm Chapter 69 World English
- 4:21Bible Save me God, for the waters have come up to my neck.
- 4:26I sink in deep mire where there is no foothold.
- 4:29I have come into deep waters where the floods overflow me.
- 4:32I am weary with my crying. My throat is dry, My eyes fail
- 4:36looking for my God. Those who hate me without a
- 4:39cause are more than the hairs of my head.
- 4:42Those who want to cut me off, being my enemies wrongfully, are
- 4:45mighty. I have to restore what I didn't
- 4:47take away. God, you know my foolishness.
- 4:51My sins aren't hidden from you. Don't let those who wait for you
- 4:54be shamed through me. Lord Yahweh of armies, don't let
- 4:58those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, God of
- 5:01Israel, because for your sake I have borne reproach.
- 5:04Shame has covered my face. I have become a stranger to my
- 5:08brothers, an alien to my mother's children, For the zeal
- 5:12of your house consumes me. The reproaches of those who
- 5:15reproach you have fallen on me. When I wept and I fasted, that
- 5:20was to my reproach. When I made sackcloth my
- 5:22clothing, I became a byword to them.
- 5:25Those who sit in the gate talk about me.
- 5:27I am the song of the drunkards. But As for me, my prayer is to
- 5:31you, Yahweh, in an acceptable time.
- 5:34God, in the abundance of Your loving kindness, answer me.
- 5:37In the truth of Your salvation, Deliver me out of the mire and
- 5:42don't let me sink. Let me be delivered from those
- 5:44who hate me and out of the deep waters.
- 5:47Don't let the flood waters overwhelm me, neither Let the
- 5:50deep swallow me up. Don't let the pit shut its mouth
- 5:53on me. Answer me, Yahweh, for Your
- 5:56loving kindness is good. According to the multitude of
- 5:59Your tender mercies. Turn to me.
- 6:02Don't hide Your face from Your servant, for I am in distress.
- 6:05Answer me speedily. Draw near to my soul and redeem
- 6:09it. Ransom me because of my enemies.
- 6:11You know my reproach, my shame, and my dishonor.
- 6:15My adversaries are all before you.
- 6:17Reproach has broken my heart, and I am full of heaviness.
- 6:21I looked for some to take pity, but there was none for
- 6:23comforters. But I found none.
- 6:26They also gave me poison for my food.
- 6:28In my thirst. They gave me vinegar to drink.
- 6:31Let their table before them become a snare.
- 6:34May it become a retribution and a trap.
- 6:37Let their eyes be darkened so that they can't see.
- 6:41Let their backs be continually bent.
- 6:43Pour out your indignation on them.
- 6:45Let the fierceness of your anger overtake them.
- 6:48Let their habitation be desolate.
- 6:50Let no one dwell in their tents, for they persecute him whom you
- 6:54have wounded. They tell of the sorrow of those
- 6:56whom you have hurt. Charge them with crime upon
- 6:59crime. Don't let them come into your
- 7:01righteousness. Let them be blotted out of the
- 7:04book of life and not be written with the righteous.
- 7:07But I am in pain and distress. Let your salvation God protect
- 7:11me. I will praise the name of God
- 7:14with a song and will magnify him with Thanksgiving.
- 7:17It will please Yahweh better than an ox or a bull that has
- 7:20horns and hoofs. The humble have seen it and are
- 7:23glad. You who seek after God, let your
- 7:27heart live. For Yahweh hears the needy and
- 7:29doesn't despise his captive people.
- 7:32Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and everything that
- 7:35moves therein. For God will save Zion and build
- 7:39the cities of Judah. They shall settle there and own
- 7:42it. The children also of His
- 7:44servants shall inherit it. Those who love His name shall
- 7:47dwell therein. First Samuel chapter 16 World
- 7:51English Bible Yahweh said to Samuel, How long will you mourn
- 7:55for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel?
- 7:59Fill your horn with oil and go. I will send you to Jesse the
- 8:03Bethlehemite, for I have provided a king for myself among
- 8:06his sons. Samuel said How can I go?
- 8:11If Saul hears it, he will kill me.
- 8:13Yahweh said Take a heifer with you and say I have come to
- 8:16sacrifice to Yahweh. Call Jesse to the sacrifice and
- 8:19I will show you what you shall do.
- 8:22You shall anoint to me him whom I name to you.
- 8:25Samuel did that which Yahweh spoke and came to Bethlehem.
- 8:29The elders of the city came to meet him trembling and said, Do
- 8:33you come peaceably? He said peaceably I have come to
- 8:36sacrifice to Yahweh, Sanctify yourselves and come with me to
- 8:41the sacrifice. He sanctified Jesse and his sons
- 8:44and called them to the sacrifice.
- 8:47When they had come, he looked at a leab and said, Surely Yahweh's
- 8:50anointed is before him. But Yahweh said to Samuel, don't
- 8:54look on his face or on the height of his stature, because I
- 8:58have rejected him. For I don't see as man sees, For
- 9:02man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at
- 9:05the heart. Then Jesse called AB an adab and
- 9:08made him pass before Samuel. He said, Yahweh has not chosen
- 9:12this one either. Then Jesse made Shama to pass
- 9:15by. He said Yahweh has not chosen
- 9:18this one either. Jesse made seven of his sons to
- 9:21pass before Samuel. Samuel said to Jesse, Yahweh has
- 9:25not chosen these. Samuel said to Jesse, are all
- 9:28your children here? He said, there remains yet the
- 9:31youngest. Behold, he is keeping the sheep.
- 9:35Samuel said to Jesse, send and get him, for we will not sit
- 9:38down until he comes here. He sent and brought him in.
- 9:42Now he was ready with a handsome face and good appearance.
- 9:46Yahweh said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he.
- 9:49Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the middle
- 9:53of his brothers. Then Yahweh's spirit came
- 9:56mightily on David from that day forward.
- 9:58So Samuel rose up and went to Rama.
- 10:01Now Yahweh's spirit departed from Saul, and an evil spirit
- 10:05from Yahweh troubled him. Saul's servant said to him, See
- 10:09now an evil spirit from God troubles you.
- 10:12Let our Lord now command your servants who are in front of you
- 10:15to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp.
- 10:19Then when the evil spirit from God is on you, he will play with
- 10:22his hand, and you will be well. Saul said to his servants,
- 10:26Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.
- 10:31Then one of the young men answered and said, Behold, I
- 10:34have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in
- 10:37playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech,
- 10:42and a handsome person, and Yahweh is with him.
- 10:45Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, Send me
- 10:48David, your son, who is with the sheep.
- 10:52Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread and a container of wine
- 10:56and a young goat and sent them by David his son to Saul.
- 11:00David came to Saul and stood before him.
- 11:03He loved him greatly and he became his armor bearer.
- 11:07Saul sent to Jesse saying, Please let David stand before
- 11:10me, for he has found favor in my sight.
- 11:13When the Spirit from God was on Saul, David took the harp and
- 11:17played with his hand. So Saul was refreshed and was
- 11:20well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
