  Wisdom over anger. Life can feel like a storm
• 0:15
  sometimes. Maybe it's a parent who doesn't
• 0:18
  understand you, a sibling who drives you absolutely crazy, a
• 0:23
  friend who betrayed your trust, a situation at school that feels
• 0:27
  completely unfair. And in those moments, the
• 0:30
  pressure to react, to say something sharp, to fight back,
• 0:33
  to let people know exactly how you feel is intense.
• 0:38
  Proverbs chapter 17, verses 25 to 27 give us a picture of what
• 0:43
  wisdom looks like in those moments.
• 0:45
  One who has knowledge restrains his words, and a man of
• 0:48
  understanding is calm, restraint, calmness.
• 0:53
  These aren't signs of weakness or passivity.
• 0:56
  They're signs of a person who knows who they are, who their
• 0:59
  God is, and that not every moment requires a reaction.

  David describes the opposite feeling in Psalm 69 verses one
• 1:07
  and two. Save me, oh God, for the waters
• 1:11
  have come up to my neck. I sink in deep mire where there
• 1:14
  is no foothold. He feels completely overwhelmed,
• 1:18
  like he's drowning, and he doesn't pretend otherwise.

  He doesn't perform. He goes directly to God with the
• 1:25
  full weight of it. That honesty with God in the
• 1:28
  middle of being overwhelmed is not weakness, it's wisdom.

  It's saying, I can't handle this alone and I'm not going to
• 1:36
  pretend I can. And then there's one of the most
• 1:39
  powerful verses in all of Scripture for those who feel
• 1:42
  judged by appearances or misunderstood by people.
• 1:46
  First Samuel chapter 16 verse 7, God speaks to Samuel and says do
• 1:52
  not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature
• 1:55
  because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man
• 1:58
  sees. Man looks on the outward
• 2:01
  appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.
• 2:04
  God is not evaluating you by your performance, your grades,
• 2:07
  your social status or how you look in front of people.
• 2:11
  He sees your heart. So here's the invitation.

  When life brings storms, bring them to God before you bring
• 2:18
  them to your social media. Respond rather than react.
• 2:22
  Choose calm over conflict. Let people misunderstand you if
• 2:26
  they need to, because the One who truly sees you sees
• 2:29
  everything, and he's working something in you, even in the
• 2:32
  hard moments. Let's pray.

  Heavenly Father, thank you for seeing our hearts and not just
• 2:40
  our behavior when we feel overwhelmed.
• 2:42
  Teach us to bring that to You before we react.
• 2:45
  Help us to restrain our words when anger wants to take over
• 2:49
  and to trust that you are working even in the middle of
• 2:51
  our storms. Guard our hearts in our mouths
• 2:55
  and help us respond with wisdom in Jesus name, Amen.

  his sons. Samuel said How can I go?

  If Saul hears it, he will kill me.

  Samuel did that which Yahweh spoke and came to Bethlehem.

  The elders of the city came to meet him trembling and said, Do

  you come peaceably? He said peaceably I have come to

  sacrifice to Yahweh, Sanctify yourselves and come with me to

  the sacrifice. He sanctified Jesse and his sons

  and called them to the sacrifice.

  When they had come, he looked at a leab and said, Surely Yahweh's

  anointed is before him. But Yahweh said to Samuel, don't

  this one either. Jesse made seven of his sons to

  pass before Samuel. Samuel said to Jesse, Yahweh has

  not chosen these. Samuel said to Jesse, are all

  your children here? He said, there remains yet the
• 9:31
  youngest. Behold, he is keeping the sheep.

  Samuel said to Jesse, send and get him, for we will not sit
• 9:38
  down until he comes here. He sent and brought him in.
• 9:42
  Now he was ready with a handsome face and good appearance.
• 9:46
  Yahweh said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he.
• 9:49
  Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the middle
• 9:53
  of his brothers. Then Yahweh's spirit came
• 9:56
  mightily on David from that day forward.
• 9:58
  So Samuel rose up and went to Rama.

  Now Yahweh's spirit departed from Saul, and an evil spirit
• 10:05
  from Yahweh troubled him. Saul's servant said to him, See
• 10:09
  now an evil spirit from God troubles you.

  Let our Lord now command your servants who are in front of you
• 10:15
  to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp.
• 10:19
  Then when the evil spirit from God is on you, he will play with
• 10:22
  his hand, and you will be well. Saul said to his servants,
• 10:26
  Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.
• 10:31
  Then one of the young men answered and said, Behold, I
• 10:34
  have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in
• 10:37
  playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech,
• 10:42
  and a handsome person, and Yahweh is with him.
• 10:45
  Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, Send me
• 10:48
  David, your son, who is with the sheep.
• 10:52
  Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread and a container of wine
• 10:56
  and a young goat and sent them by David his son to Saul.
• 11:00
  David came to Saul and stood before him.
• 11:03
  He loved him greatly and he became his armor bearer.
• 11:07
  Saul sent to Jesse saying, Please let David stand before
• 11:10
  me, for he has found favor in my sight.
• 11:13
  When the Spirit from God was on Saul, David took the harp and
• 11:17
  played with his hand. So Saul was refreshed and was
• 11:20
  well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
• 11:25
