- Karen: Welcome to the Rock the Life Friday 5. We have Tyson Leslie with us, who is a multi instrumentalist, and we've seen his name absolutely everywhere. And he's Amy: Mm. Everywhere. Karen: played all tyson leslie: All right. Karen: over, all over the place. So what we want to get from Tyson, Amy: Uh-huh. Karen: what we want to ask you is top five favorite venues that you've played in the world. Amy: Yeah. Karen: It's all open. tyson leslie: okay. I mean when you I d I I I don't know if you wanna if you can count all these European festivals as as as as one or another, but you know, when you Amy: Do it. Karen: Yes. A hundred percent. tyson leslie: play something like the Baking Festival or what you know, in in Barcelona Rockfest and which was one of my favorite p places in the world ever, period. Like that city I I said if I didn't live in the States, I'd probably want to live in Barcelona. It's pretty amazing. so all those kind of festivals where you're playing in front of, you know, sixty thousand, hundred thousand people. Amy: Mm. tyson leslie: It's pretty amazing. I've had this weird weirdly unique career where it's like, you know, I I guess I could also put something like playing the NFL draft with Brett Michaels in front of three hundred and twenty thousand people in Pittsburgh. Karen: What? tyson leslie: That's up there, that's pretty cool. that was an insanity. Amy: Yes tyson leslie: And that definitely broke my record for how Amy: Well tyson leslie: many people I played in front of. But then also Amy: Wow. tyson leslie: there's smaller venues. I love playing the basement east here in Nashville. There there's something about the sound, crew, the people that are part of, you know, the whole thing. they're they're it's just it's an it's just a club, but it's a it's a club that means a lot to me because The owner's a friend of mine. and I I I love playing there. And but there's gosh, that that was a tough one. That was a hard one for me to I remember you brought that question up. I'm like, I don't even know if I have I mean I do. a lot of people say stuff like the whiskey and some of these like famous places like Tootsie's or whatever, don't have I've not had the best experiences at those places, even though they're legendary and they're cool. Amy: Right. tyson leslie: but there are definitely many, many other venues all over the universe that I enjoy more. They're they're the Mohegan Sun casino up there in Connecticut is amazing. The sound, the lights, the the the vent just the place itself. looking out the window of your hotel is beautiful. It's just aesthetically amazing. There's a place there's a place in Utah that's like that as well that we've played that just All you see is mountains and really cool stuff. I don't know how many I've said, but it's those kinds of things. Things that are unique, Amy: I love that. No, it's yeah. No Karen: Yes. tyson leslie: traveling to other parts of the world. Like, you know, when we played in in in London at the O two, I'm like, dude, I've watched Amy: No. tyson leslie: D V Ds of the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco. I played there with a band Amy: She was just tyson leslie: like I Karen: My favorite. tyson leslie: played with a band called Red Light. And I was like, dude, I have Amy: Wow. tyson leslie: Slayer. Like I've got so many DVDs that were shot at this venue. And now I'm playing at it. And I'm going backstage and I'm looking at all the people assigned. And there's Bill Clinton and and and there's Jim Morrison and like it's just insane some of those Amy: yes. tyson leslie: venues that have that super, super deep history. But then like attending a place it's a strip club now. But back in the day when I was a kid it was a place called the Outhouse in Lawrence, Kansas. And it was the diveest, most disgusting piece of crap. it was a terrible bar. But everybody played it. Everybody from Green Day. I saw Nirvana played there to sixty Karen: I was like, he kept coming back for more. Amy: Wow. tyson leslie: people. You know, I saw I've seen Henry Rollins there. I've seen Ice T there. I've seen some of my favorite like I saw Prong and and w all the thrash bands used to come through there. Like it was We me and my friends would go to this place and see all the death metal bands and but then, you would see Green Day and the Offspring and before they got big and now, play to Amy: Yeah. tyson leslie: Corn, I saw Pantera there, I saw White Zombie there playing to like, you know, eighty people, a hundred people. There's a hundred people at that Amy: So crazy. tyson leslie: place packed. It was packed. Amy: Yeah. tyson leslie: And they had no lighting. They had like these stupid lights that you would buy at like Walmart or Home Depot. They didn't have real lights. They were they're just stationary. It was it the place was junk, but everybody played it. And there's a documentary on YouTube, I think, or somewhere called the Outhouse. It was in Lawrence, Kansas. And it's just legendary, Karen: I'm gonna check. tyson leslie: man. And that that's the kind of stuff I Amy: Wow. tyson leslie: like. I like going to those places that I've heard of. I never got to play CBT. Karen: I love it. I love it too. tyson leslie: I wanted to go so bad, but I never got to play there or even go there. So it that's the stuff that I Amy: Wow. tyson leslie: like. Amy: That's awesome. I love that. Karen: i I have to say the same thing. big music festival and I love a club. So yes, it's just yeah. That is that is great. Amy: 100%. Well, Tyson, thank you for being this week's guest on the Rock the Live Friday 5. We appreciate you. Yep. tyson leslie: Thanks for having me. Amy: You have a good rest of your weekend. We'll talk to you again. Bye. tyson leslie: All right. All right. Take care.
