- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, I'm going to be honest. I was not looking
- 0:03Speaker 1: forward to the pod this morning because I had another
- 0:07Speaker 1: disaster of a game week. Yeah. Hi, Jules.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Hi, Sam.
- 0:10Speaker 1: I'm going to get it out the way early because
- 0:11Speaker 1: if I don't, you guys will.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Yeah, tender country.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Who on earth has the bad luck of having two
- 0:16Speaker 1: midfielders that got minus one each? I know that quite
- 0:19Speaker 1: a few people listening to this can relate, but also
- 0:22Speaker 1: to not have Esri Konza. What a disaster of a
- 0:25Speaker 1: game week. And once again, I went into it quite happy. Anyway,
- 0:28Speaker 1: I've got that out of my system. Welcome to the
- 0:30Speaker 1: FPL pod. I'm fine, really. We're going to have a
- 0:32Speaker 1: great podcast. We're going to talk about how it's all
- 0:34Speaker 1: going to be all right coming into the next game
- 0:36Speaker 1: week because the only way is up and game week
- 0:37Speaker 1: nine is finally going to be the one when my
- 0:39Speaker 1: season gets back together. Yeah. Hi, guys. Sam, Jules. I mean, Jules,
- 0:43Speaker 1: yours is marginally better than mine, but not much.
- 0:47Speaker 3: No, I got 47 points. This could go two ways, Kels, really.
- 0:53Speaker 4: One way is I wanted to give Bruno Fernandes another week,
- 0:57Speaker 4: another chance. I could waffle something and not be completely honest.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Or I can just say that I had family over
- 1:04Speaker 4: from Paris.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I wondered if you were going to admit it. This
- 1:06Speaker 1: is bad, Jules. This is so bad.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I'm annoyed.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:10Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:10Speaker 4: I'm so annoyed too that, you know, I just, the
- 1:13Speaker 4: deadline got me and then not just me, my kids,
- 1:16Speaker 4: my brother too, everybody who we were together on Friday.
- 1:19Speaker 4: So it was a week where I think this is,
- 1:22Speaker 4: because I think a lot of people can relate. It
- 1:24Speaker 4: happens that you forget or you don't have the time
- 1:26Speaker 4: to change your teams or do your transfers, et cetera, whatever.
- 1:29Speaker 4: But then to watch that Premier League weekend without having
- 1:33Speaker 4: the team that you want on FPL is such a torture,
- 1:36Speaker 4: really is. And in the end, I got 47 points.
- 1:39Speaker 4: So more than the average, far more than you and
- 1:42Speaker 4: your dodgy team.
- 1:43Speaker 1: You got three more than me. Three?
- 1:45Speaker 3: Yeah, still three. And so it was not too bad
- 1:48Speaker 3: in the end. It could have been a complete disaster.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Like, you know, one of my kids got 29 points
- 1:52Speaker 4: because obviously he didn't play. So, but yeah, I just
- 1:56Speaker 4: got away with it. But it's not something that, you know,
- 1:59Speaker 4: can happen anymore.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Sam, that's a sackable offense, isn't it? Yeah, I mean,
- 2:03Speaker 2: I did text him and say, what has happened to
- 2:05Speaker 2: your team? Did you not do it? didn't I? Over
- 2:08Speaker 2: the weekend. I was like, come on now. You're on
- 2:10Speaker 2: the FPL pod. You can't miss the deadline.
- 2:13Speaker 4: I know, I know.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Terrible. I had a great week. So I don't know
- 2:16Speaker 2: what you're all moaning about.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yeah, go on then. Tell us about yours, Sam. Come on.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Well, actually I did. I was quite annoyed by the
- 2:23Speaker 2: end of it. And then I looked at our mini
- 2:24Speaker 2: league and was just like, oh, actually I can't be
- 2:27Speaker 2: moaning because I've actually had a, Had a decent week.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Obviously played the wrong goalkeeper, didn't I? Played the Bruggen
- 2:32Speaker 2: over Kinski, which I think pretty much everybody did this week.
- 2:36Speaker 2: And maybe I should have had more faith in my
- 2:38Speaker 2: own defence, given that actually Spurs were very, very good
- 2:42Speaker 2: on Saturday evening. Had the cons of points that you
- 2:44Speaker 2: were just talking about, Kelly. Got a bit jammy because
- 2:47Speaker 2: I also benched Van Hek and got him off my
- 2:49Speaker 2: bench for Jal Pedro with his seven-pointer. So that was
- 2:52Speaker 2: a nice auto-sub in when that happened just after the
- 2:57Speaker 2: game finished. Had Tavernier, who was my transfer in this week,
- 3:00Speaker 2: for his 10 points against Manchester United. So that was
- 3:03Speaker 2: a really positive one. Even Josh King decided he was
- 3:06Speaker 2: going to return in the final week that I was
- 3:08Speaker 2: going to own him. So that was great. Have six
- 3:10Speaker 2: points out of him. Obviously, Haaland captain.
- 3:13Speaker 3: So yeah, a decent week.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I got 60 in the end, including the zero pointer
- 3:16Speaker 2: from Pascal Gross. I was also the most frustrated Bobby
- 3:21Speaker 2: Thomas owner in the world. I think everyone that owns
- 3:23Speaker 2: Bobby Thomas was. To see him get subbed off on 59.11,
- 3:26Speaker 2: it's like, Bobby, can you just walk a bit slower?
- 3:29Speaker 2: Can we just take 42 seconds to get yourself off
- 3:33Speaker 2: the pitch? But yeah, that one pointer really, really stung,
- 3:37Speaker 2: but A decent week in the end, a nice big
- 3:39Speaker 2: green arrow. I think I basically halved my rank this week.
- 3:42Speaker 2: So it was definitely a good week to have a
- 3:45Speaker 2: good week because there were so many people like you
- 3:47Speaker 2: guys that just had a bit of a struggle this week.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Because if you were on the wrong players, it was brutal.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it did feel that way, didn't it? Okay, let's
- 3:53Speaker 1: check in on the FPL Pod Mini League. Nils is
- 3:56Speaker 1: still at the top and he's actually second in the
- 3:59Speaker 1: entire game. He did have Gabriel for his 17 points.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Also had returns from Rea and Dai. He did play
- 4:05Speaker 1: the wrong goalkeeper though. He had Trafford's 10 points on
- 4:08Speaker 1: the bench. He also benched Hayto's six points, as he,
- 4:11Speaker 1: of course, went off before the Spurs clean sheet was lost.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Jack Dunn got 86 points with Tavernier as captain, got
- 4:18Speaker 1: returns from Gabriel Marinovic and Antonio Silva. He also plays
- 4:22Speaker 1: bench boost to add the points from Trafford, a huge
- 4:24Speaker 1: 10 points from him. Thiago Thomas, who, as Sam just
- 4:27Speaker 1: said then, was unlucky to go off 40 seconds before
- 4:29Speaker 1: the hour mark. And Rodoni Ragre went down to third
- 4:32Speaker 1: with 50 points for the week, and Carl De Sanctis
- 4:34Speaker 1: climbed into fourth, getting 61 points. A reminder then, your
- 4:38Speaker 1: code is Q0HV1Q. Jules, before we look back on Game
- 4:42Speaker 1: Week 8, there's been EFL Cup action this week. Anything
- 4:46Speaker 1: of note from an FPL point of view?
- 4:48Speaker 3: Yeah, some big games.
- 4:49Speaker 4: The big upset, obviously, is Arsenal's defeat. They were at Fleetwoods,
- 4:52Speaker 4: that's League 2 Fleetwoods, with a red card.
- 4:55Speaker 3: For Max Diamond.
- 4:56Speaker 4: A bit of a mixed team to start with, three teenagers,
- 4:59Speaker 4: but then the big boys came on, Bruno Guimaraes and
- 5:02Speaker 4: and Martin Odegaard, for example. And you had a very
- 5:05Speaker 4: strong team, Beresieze too, at the end. And yet, Arsenal
- 5:09Speaker 4: lost on penalties. City beat Brighton on penalties as well.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Rotation on both sides, but still some big players. Gross started,
- 5:17Speaker 4: Schalke started, Foden started. Schalke gave an assist.
- 5:22Speaker 3: There was no Haaland.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Doku came on later. Lakenzo, for example. Reuters scored for
- 5:27Speaker 4: Brighton and gave an assist as well.
- 5:28Speaker 3: He had a really good game. for Brighton. Pascal Gross also,
- 5:32Speaker 3: I think I said, started.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Bournemouth continued their amazing weeks with a third win in
- 5:36Speaker 4: a row in the last eight days or so, really,
- 5:39Speaker 4: if you count Europe and the winner United.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Beating Aston Villa, beating, really, 3-0.
- 5:46Speaker 4: Sunderland, big win for Regis Lebris and then Malik Fofana
- 5:49Speaker 4: with a goal. Same for Pierre Sage and Crystal Palace,
- 5:53Speaker 4: where Fulham 1-0 at the end. KTR scored that goal. Again,
- 5:56Speaker 4: a lot of rotations in all those games, to be fair.
- 5:59Speaker 4: And then the big games was Liverpool against Chelsea, obviously,
- 6:01Speaker 4: and we had more penalties in there. And Liverpool, who
- 6:05Speaker 4: always beat Chelsea on penalties in the League Cup anyway,
- 6:08Speaker 4: had a big win. And yeah, that was a good performance. Again,
- 6:12Speaker 4: a lot of rotation. Isak and Virts were on the bench,
- 6:14Speaker 4: came off the bench for Liverpool. And Chelsea had Rodgers, obviously,
- 6:18Speaker 4: with Welbeck up front. No Cole Palmer, who was suspended.
- 6:22Speaker 4: And no Joe Pedro, who was obviously injured.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Yeah, that was the only good thing as a Cole
- 6:25Speaker 1: Palmer owner, knowing that His suspension was going to be
- 6:28Speaker 1: in the Cup in midweek and at least he won't
- 6:29Speaker 1: miss a game in the league. Not that I'm especially
- 6:32Speaker 1: excited to own him given what he's done in his
- 6:33Speaker 1: first performance, but I've got him for now. So at
- 6:36Speaker 1: least he's available for this weekend on a weekend where
- 6:39Speaker 1: maybe there's a few struggles elsewhere in my team. Of course,
- 6:42Speaker 1: I'm referring there to Joao Pedro. But before we come
- 6:45Speaker 1: on to that, I just wanted to talk about Chelsea
- 6:47Speaker 1: overall in general, because I think they struggled at the weekend, Sam,
- 6:52Speaker 1: as you said, obviously, Spurs are brilliant, etc.
- 6:54Speaker 4: etc.
- 6:55Speaker 1: But I'm wondering how Pedro's availability changes our overall view
- 6:59Speaker 1: about Chelsea in general and the way their attack functions
- 7:02Speaker 1: when he's not there to spearhead it.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it massively does for me because, I mean, we
- 7:06Speaker 2: saw it against Brentford, didn't we, as well, when they
- 7:07Speaker 2: played against Brentford a few game weeks ago. They weren't
- 7:11Speaker 2: the same in attack. They really struggled to kind of
- 7:14Speaker 2: get that attacking unit going. And so when the team
- 7:18Speaker 2: sheet came out on Saturday... And Jal Pedro's name wasn't
- 7:21Speaker 2: on it. I was like, as a Spurs fan, I
- 7:23Speaker 2: was thinking, okay, well, if they play against like they
- 7:25Speaker 2: did against Brentford, then that probably bodes quite well for us.
- 7:30Speaker 2: I was surprised not to see Welbeck in the team
- 7:32Speaker 2: as well. But yeah, I think it does because, you know,
- 7:34Speaker 2: you look at their number of goals that they've scored.
- 7:37Speaker 2: When Jal Pedro's been there, it's been 17. When Jal
- 7:39Speaker 2: Pedro hasn't been there, it's been none. They haven't yet
- 7:41Speaker 2: scored in the league without him. The XGI expected goal
- 7:45Speaker 2: involvements per 90 has gone down. it's a 1.5 when
- 7:49Speaker 2: Jal Pedro's in the team. It's a 0.65 when Jal
- 7:52Speaker 2: Pedro's not. So they really do struggle to kind of
- 7:55Speaker 2: find that final product without him. And it makes Morgan
- 7:59Speaker 2: Rogers and Cole Palmer worse assets for me when Jal
- 8:02Speaker 2: Pedro's not there.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Does that mean then if you're a Morgan Rogers or
- 8:05Speaker 1: a Cole Palmer owner, Jules, you should think about doing
- 8:08Speaker 1: something with them in his absence? I guess it makes
- 8:10Speaker 1: it trickier in that Alonso's words were that he's going
- 8:13Speaker 1: to be out for a few weeks. I know a
- 8:15Speaker 1: lot of FPL people have been saying to journalists in
- 8:18Speaker 1: the press conferences, but what did he say after that?
- 8:20Speaker 1: Did you get the sense that that means definitely a
- 8:22Speaker 1: few weeks? Does that mean before the international break? Does
- 8:24Speaker 1: that mean after it? Because of course there is only
- 8:25Speaker 1: two game weeks before the international break.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Yeah, the good news for us is, and for Pedro
- 8:31Speaker 4: and Chelsea to be fair, is that there's that international
- 8:33Speaker 4: break probably in the middle where he will still be injured,
- 8:36Speaker 4: but should be back maybe after the international break, although
- 8:40Speaker 4: it's the The shorter one, the one that we used
- 8:42Speaker 4: to have before, not the big one that we had
- 8:44Speaker 4: last month.
- 8:45Speaker 3: So that could be good news.
- 8:47Speaker 4: I think you keep him and you put him on
- 8:49Speaker 4: your bench if you can, if you have two other
- 8:51Speaker 4: good forwards, if you have Haaland and another one. If
- 8:55Speaker 4: the third one is not that great, make sure that
- 8:57Speaker 4: your third one, who would then start for you in
- 8:59Speaker 4: the absence of Joel Pedro, is a good one. Because
- 9:02Speaker 4: I don't think it would be that long for Joel Pedro.
- 9:04Speaker 3: It's not.
- 9:05Speaker 4: It's not an ACL injury. It's not something big and
- 9:08Speaker 4: we won't see him for another six months. So I
- 9:10Speaker 4: really think he could be back, if not straight after
- 9:12Speaker 4: the international break, not long after really.
- 9:14Speaker 3: So keep that.
- 9:15Speaker 4: But we've been saying all season long that he was
- 9:17Speaker 4: the most important of the three, the one that make
- 9:19Speaker 4: the other two ticking. So if you have both Palmer
- 9:22Speaker 4: and Rodgers, I think you're in trouble. If you have
- 9:24Speaker 4: one of the two, I think you can still play
- 9:26Speaker 4: Rodgers because Chelsea will still be a good team and
- 9:28Speaker 4: Rodgers will still be a good player. He might be
- 9:30Speaker 4: not as good as when Joe Pedro is there, because
- 9:32Speaker 4: Joe Pedro, I think, helps the other two massively in
- 9:36Speaker 4: his all-around game. But he's still, Palmer and Rodgers are
- 9:39Speaker 4: still quality players. We saw Rodgers being quite threatening against
- 9:42Speaker 4: Liverpool on Wednesday night in the League Cup, for example.
- 9:46Speaker 4: He scored a penalty, could have had maybe one or
- 9:49Speaker 4: two other good chances. So they're still good players there.
- 9:52Speaker 4: It's just, I think, they're so much better when Joe
- 9:54Speaker 4: Pedro is on the pitch that I would not keep
- 9:56Speaker 4: Palmer and Rodgers in the same team if you have
- 9:58Speaker 4: them without Joe for example.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Sam, do you agree? So I have sold Joel Pedro
- 10:06Speaker 2: already this week. And maybe my attitude to it is
- 10:10Speaker 2: a bit different because I have my wild card still
- 10:12Speaker 2: to play. So in my head, I'm thinking, well, I
- 10:15Speaker 2: don't need to hold a player that's injured. I can
- 10:18Speaker 2: sell him because if I do want him back and
- 10:19Speaker 2: let's be honest, we are going to want our Pedro
- 10:21Speaker 2: back when he's fit because he has been so good
- 10:24Speaker 2: for us in FPL this season. I can't see a
- 10:25Speaker 2: time where I won't want him, but right now while
- 10:29Speaker 2: he's injured and given the uncertainty as to how long
- 10:32Speaker 2: it's going to be, I don't really want to sit
- 10:34Speaker 2: with an injured player for three, potentially four game weeks
- 10:38Speaker 2: or however long that might be when I could just
- 10:40Speaker 2: hold that position for him by using somebody else in
- 10:44Speaker 2: the meantime, because The way I kind of looked at
- 10:46Speaker 2: it was there were other forwards who over the next
- 10:50Speaker 2: three or four weeks have a really nice run of fixtures.
- 10:53Speaker 2: And rather than having a spot just that's dead effectively
- 10:56Speaker 2: in my team while Jal Pedro is out, I can
- 10:58Speaker 2: use that to have a player that's got a really
- 11:01Speaker 2: good run of fixtures, is showing some form and maybe
- 11:04Speaker 2: differentiate my team a little bit in the coming weeks
- 11:06Speaker 2: to help me climb up the overall ranks. Because most
- 11:09Speaker 2: managers that have already wildcarded will have a decision to
- 11:12Speaker 2: make about Jal Pedro. Do I hold him? and do
- 11:15Speaker 2: what Jules says, stick him on the bench, keep him
- 11:16Speaker 2: there because you know eventually you're going to want him back?
- 11:19Speaker 2: Or do you sell him, lose some value in him potentially,
- 11:22Speaker 2: and then have to bring him back in again later
- 11:24Speaker 2: using one of your free transfers? Maybe they'll be managers
- 11:28Speaker 2: that think, I don't really want to use my free
- 11:29Speaker 2: transfers on that. I'd rather hold them for something else
- 11:31Speaker 2: that's more important. But with the wild card still to play,
- 11:35Speaker 2: he's a really easy buyback. So I kind of feel
- 11:38Speaker 2: like it's time to chase the upside of some of
- 11:41Speaker 2: the other forwards while he's out.
- 11:42Speaker 1: And it also feels quite rare that we I mean,
- 11:45Speaker 1: can we ever definitely say that a player is going
- 11:46Speaker 1: to be out? But it feels quite rare that we
- 11:48Speaker 1: have some clarification with a few weeks. Do you know
- 11:51Speaker 1: what I mean? I half expected Alonso to say, oh,
- 11:53Speaker 1: we don't know and keep his cards close to his chest.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Of course, he could still rock up, probably not this week,
- 11:59Speaker 1: but he could still rock up in the game before
- 12:00Speaker 1: the international break. But also there's an argument that he's
- 12:04Speaker 1: not going to want to lose him for longer, is he?
- 12:05Speaker 1: So it's almost like getting beyond the international break. I
- 12:09Speaker 1: don't know. I'm not a medic, but That's kind of
- 12:11Speaker 1: what it feels like. So Jules, you're planning on holding
- 12:13Speaker 1: him and just benching him. Is that the plan at
- 12:15Speaker 1: the moment?
- 12:16Speaker 3: Yeah, probably.
- 12:16Speaker 4: But I also have the wild card and I think
- 12:18Speaker 4: it's a great point by Sam. If you've played your
- 12:20Speaker 4: wild card already, it might be difficult for you to
- 12:22Speaker 4: bring him back simply because of the different prices. Let's
- 12:24Speaker 4: say if you have cost two laps instead and to
- 12:28Speaker 4: get that money and it might cost you two free transfers.
- 12:30Speaker 3: It would be a bit of a strategy to bring
- 12:32Speaker 3: him back.
- 12:32Speaker 1: So maybe it's different for me as well because I
- 12:34Speaker 1: actually have four free transfers at the moment. And yes,
- 12:38Speaker 1: you can argue that my team's in the mire and
- 12:40Speaker 1: I should maybe be using those transfers to make it better.
- 12:42Speaker 1: But actually, if I only had one free transfer, I'd
- 12:45Speaker 1: be looking at benching him. But Sam taught there, I
- 12:47Speaker 1: thought was interesting. You said chasing the upside. I now
- 12:49Speaker 1: need to find an upside because I have had a
- 12:51Speaker 1: poor start to the season. So I haven't got a wildcard,
- 12:54Speaker 1: but I have got four free transfers. So, and I
- 12:57Speaker 1: would have moved him on earlier in the week. If
- 13:00Speaker 1: I'm honest, I basically... came home from work. My daughter cried.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I missed the midnight. I was still deciding whether I
- 13:06Speaker 1: wanted to go Evan Nielsen or Jackson. And I thought,
- 13:09Speaker 1: I'm just going to get home. I was at work.
- 13:11Speaker 2: I was at five live.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I was going to get home and sort it. And
- 13:13Speaker 1: I got in bed at 10 past midnight and realized
- 13:15Speaker 1: I've missed the price rise and price fall. That said,
- 13:18Speaker 1: so it is what it is, but my, luckily I've
- 13:19Speaker 1: got enough in the bank to do it. But I think,
- 13:22Speaker 1: I think that can also, it depends on how many
- 13:24Speaker 1: transfers you've got. And if you want to chase the
- 13:26Speaker 1: upside and if you're happy with your bench, because also
- 13:29Speaker 1: I've got a bench boost to consider as well. And
- 13:31Speaker 1: if he's, it ends up being out longer, then all
- 13:33Speaker 1: of a sudden I'm holding a player and it's also
- 13:35Speaker 1: stopping me to play a bench boost. So I think
- 13:37Speaker 1: it completely depends, doesn't it, on the structure of your team.
- 13:41Speaker 1: But I think, Sam, you might have just changed Jules'
- 13:43Speaker 1: mind during this podcast, Jules.
- 13:45Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Yeah, actually, yeah.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Because it's just, I think it's always difficult, I think,
- 13:50Speaker 4: to bring back players who are expensive. And rightly so,
- 13:52Speaker 4: it's very obvious to state that, but it's the truth.
- 13:55Speaker 4: And I think it could be quite... difficult and you
- 13:59Speaker 4: have to manage things like that. And it might cost
- 14:02Speaker 4: you just more than one free transfer, maybe two or three.
- 14:05Speaker 4: So if you don't have that, if you can do that,
- 14:07Speaker 4: then I think Sam is right. Make sure that you
- 14:09Speaker 4: have three forwards who are in good form. So if
- 14:12Speaker 4: you can have, I don't know, Haaland, Nico and Evan
- 14:15Speaker 4: Nielsen this week, for example, sure, you know, go for it.
- 14:18Speaker 4: And then make sure that you can bring Joel Pedro
- 14:20Speaker 4: back when he's fully fit and back again, because like
- 14:23Speaker 4: Sam said, we would need him back.
- 14:25Speaker 1: So in terms of the players that are being brought
- 14:27Speaker 1: in for Joel Pedro at the moment, the one that's
- 14:30Speaker 1: completely out in front is the player that I mentioned,
- 14:32Speaker 1: Aston Villas, Nico Jackson, with over 386,000 transfers at the
- 14:37Speaker 1: time of recording. That will have gone up, I'm sure,
- 14:39Speaker 1: by the time this is even in your ears. Second
- 14:41Speaker 1: up is Isak and third up is the other player
- 14:44Speaker 1: that I mentioned, Evan Ilsen. Sam, which one did you
- 14:47Speaker 1: go with firstly? A little spoiler for the transfer section.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I went with Jackson. And it was a really tough decision, actually,
- 14:55Speaker 2: because I spent a lot of time looking at... The
- 14:58Speaker 2: fixture for ESAC this week put me off. Like, this
- 15:02Speaker 2: week's ESAC fixture, I was like, if it wasn't Arsenal,
- 15:05Speaker 2: I would have gone... I think I would have gone there.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I've got 7.2 million in my bank at the moment.
- 15:12Speaker 3: What? Sorry.
- 15:12Speaker 1: 7.2 million. That would have just hurt people's ears.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 15:16Speaker 2: It's ridiculous. It's borderline ridiculous. I've basically got a whole player...
- 15:21Speaker 2: in my, a mid-price player as well, not even a
- 15:23Speaker 2: cheap one. To be fair, you could almost get to
- 15:25Speaker 2: 4 million defenders.
- 15:27Speaker 3: It's ridiculous.
- 15:29Speaker 2: So, and I keep looking at my bank thinking, I
- 15:31Speaker 2: really should spend that. And then looking at my team
- 15:33Speaker 2: and thinking, but it looks all right. I don't feel
- 15:35Speaker 2: like I need to. So when I was replacing Jao Pedro,
- 15:38Speaker 2: money wasn't an object. So I was like, well, do
- 15:40Speaker 2: I go up to Isak? I could go to Thiago
- 15:43Speaker 2: if I so chose, who's actually finding a bit of
- 15:45Speaker 2: form as well. I can go with Nico Jackson, who
- 15:49Speaker 2: feels like, the sensible pick given the fixtures I can
- 15:52Speaker 2: go with them. I can go anywhere. So I'm looking
- 15:54Speaker 2: at my team and the fixture against Arsenal definitely put
- 15:57Speaker 2: me off ESAC because I think I would have gone
- 15:59Speaker 2: there otherwise, but given the fixtures that Aston Villa have
- 16:02Speaker 2: coming up, given the form that Jackson is in, um,
- 16:06Speaker 2: he just felt like the obvious choice when you compare
- 16:10Speaker 2: the numbers between him and ESAC as well, despite the
- 16:12Speaker 2: fact that, you know, we've seen, um, Less FPL points
- 16:17Speaker 2: for Jackson so far. The numbers are not dissimilar. And
- 16:20Speaker 2: I think we saw that Aston Villa had a very
- 16:23Speaker 2: tough start to the season and now are finding their form.
- 16:26Speaker 2: So I think we'll see some really good returns from
- 16:28Speaker 2: Jackson over the coming weeks.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Who's the best replacement for you, Jules?
- 16:34Speaker 4: I think if it was not a Liverpool-Arsenal game. And again,
- 16:37Speaker 4: Alexander Isak can score against Arsenal too.
- 16:39Speaker 2: He's got a good record against Arsenal from his Newcastle days.
- 16:42Speaker 4: And Liverpool are in good form, apart from the City loss,
- 16:45Speaker 4: which came after the red card from Gravenberg. They're unbeaten,
- 16:48Speaker 4: apart from that game. And he was kind of rested
- 16:52Speaker 4: in midweek, as we said, against Chelsea before coming off
- 16:55Speaker 4: the bench. So I think Isak is still probably the
- 16:58Speaker 4: most expensive. Isak is at 9.1 right now. We said
- 17:00Speaker 4: Nico at 6.8. So that's 2.3 million difference there. Evan
- 17:05Speaker 4: Nilsson is even cheaper at 6.2. If you look at
- 17:07Speaker 4: Evan Nilsson, who's in great form, Nico is 4-4. Evan
- 17:10Speaker 4: Nilsson is three goals and four assists in eight Premier
- 17:12Speaker 4: League matches, which is pretty incredible for him.
- 17:15Speaker 3: And Isak is three and three. So they're all really
- 17:18Speaker 3: in good form.
- 17:21Speaker 4: If you have the money and can wait after the
- 17:24Speaker 4: Arsenal fixture if you don't fancy it, for example, I
- 17:26Speaker 4: think Isak is still a great shot for sure. But
- 17:30Speaker 4: Nico has a lot of good form and the fixtures
- 17:33Speaker 4: for Vela are great. But if you have Manzambi and
- 17:36Speaker 4: you don't want to double up Manzambi, Nico Jackson, I
- 17:39Speaker 4: can understand. If you've got Tavernier and you don't want
- 17:40Speaker 4: to go Tavernier, Evan Nielsen, you.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Can understand it as well.
- 17:44Speaker 1: That was why I hesitated in the week, Jules, actually,
- 17:46Speaker 1: because I was like, I kind of like the idea
- 17:48Speaker 1: of bringing in Manzambi and Evan Nielsen or doing it
- 17:51Speaker 1: the other way around. I mean, you can double up,
- 17:54Speaker 1: but it just felt nice to have, cover on both
- 17:57Speaker 1: that said last night Bournemouth played Aston Villa didn't they
- 18:00Speaker 1: and one attack certainly came out on top although of
- 18:03Speaker 1: course in a different competition etc but I think that's
- 18:06Speaker 1: a consideration Sam and maybe that came into your thinking
- 18:08Speaker 1: as a Tavernier owner it.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Massively did because I was looking at it thinking well
- 18:13Speaker 2: I've got Tavernier do I want to double up on
- 18:15Speaker 2: Bournemouth like if we've had conversations for weeks now about
- 18:19Speaker 2: the treble up on Chelsea haven't we and do you
- 18:21Speaker 2: really want to go for it I did it last
- 18:23Speaker 2: week let me be the experiment for all of you
- 18:24Speaker 2: don't do.
- 18:25Speaker 1: It it doesn't work.
- 18:28Speaker 2: But I think you know when you have when you
- 18:32Speaker 2: go for a double up in attack of a team
- 18:34Speaker 2: if that attack doesn't fire that week it is quite
- 18:38Speaker 2: damaging to the way that your team goes I like
- 18:40Speaker 2: to spread my attack if I can across multiple different
- 18:43Speaker 2: Premier League clubs because at that point then you have
- 18:45Speaker 2: the opportunity where if one team has an off day
- 18:48Speaker 2: like we saw with Chelsea on Saturday that we can
- 18:52Speaker 2: rely on the rest of our team to kind of
- 18:54Speaker 2: bring up our fpl points total if you've troubled up
- 18:57Speaker 2: on one team's attack or doubled up it does have
- 19:00Speaker 2: and can have a negative impact if they don't return
- 19:03Speaker 2: well so when I was looking at my team I
- 19:04Speaker 2: was thinking well I've already got Tavernier in there if
- 19:07Speaker 2: I double up with Evan Ilsen it looks good for
- 19:10Speaker 2: Bournemouth's fixtures the pair of them are playing well we've
- 19:12Speaker 2: also got the creepy factor with creepy coming back into
- 19:15Speaker 2: the to the squad and How's that going to impact
- 19:18Speaker 2: on the position of the two of them and how
- 19:20Speaker 2: they play and Bournemouth's performances? I think it will only
- 19:22Speaker 2: improve them, but nonetheless, it might have an impact. Or
- 19:28Speaker 2: do I go for somebody that's outside and I don't
- 19:32Speaker 2: really have a Liverpool attacker at the minute. I mean,
- 19:34Speaker 2: I still have Sabozlai sitting on my bench, but he
- 19:37Speaker 2: just sits there injured and I'll deal with him at
- 19:39Speaker 2: some point, possibly this week. but ESAC does feel like
- 19:43Speaker 2: a good way to invest in a really good team.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Liverpool have been really solid so far this season, but
- 19:49Speaker 2: the Arsenal game put me off. so then I was
- 19:50Speaker 2: looking at Aston Villa and I really wanted Manzambi the
- 19:53Speaker 2: transfer I wanted to make this week was to go
- 19:55Speaker 2: from Sir Bosley to Manzambi but Jao Pedro felt like
- 19:59Speaker 2: a bigger issue given he was going to drop in
- 20:00Speaker 2: price I wanted to protect some team value and I
- 20:03Speaker 2: saw it as an opportunity to get their inform goal
- 20:06Speaker 2: scorer into my team so Yeah, but it definitely had
- 20:10Speaker 2: an impact. That kind of like, do I want to
- 20:13Speaker 2: double up on Bournemouth or Aston Villa? Do you change
- 20:16Speaker 2: the way that I viewed it?
- 20:17Speaker 1: You can still do it though, because I suppose we have... Absolutely.
- 20:20Speaker 1: And when you look at an attack like.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Both of them scored our traffic, for example.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and also when you look at Bournemouth, and Bournemouth
- 20:25Speaker 1: three wins in a week, it kind of feels like
- 20:28Speaker 1: we've been waiting for this bit of form on Bournemouth's fixtures.
- 20:30Speaker 1: It feels like if you're going to do it with
- 20:31Speaker 1: a team, although both Bournemouth and Aston Villa do have
- 20:34Speaker 1: Europe as well, so that's also something to think of.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I think maybe... With Chelsea, we all felt a little
- 20:39Speaker 1: bit more, I don't know, maybe I'm just trying to
- 20:42Speaker 1: find excuses here as to why I was stupidly putting
- 20:44Speaker 1: Cole Palmer on. I want to get rid of him
- 20:46Speaker 1: straight away, but I won't. Okay, so there's some good options, basically. Also, Thiago, Sam,
- 20:52Speaker 1: I think that's an interesting one because you mentioned, you
- 20:55Speaker 1: alluded to him before, he actually returned for the fourth
- 20:56Speaker 1: game in a row, didn't he? All of a sudden,
- 20:58Speaker 1: we're not really talking about him because of the other forwards,
- 21:00Speaker 1: but he probably should be.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and scored in the Cup as well. So we
- 21:04Speaker 2: have got, like, But weirdly, for somebody that was so
- 21:09Speaker 2: brilliant for us in FPL last season, and we all
- 21:12Speaker 2: owned for large chunks of the season, because he's gone
- 21:14Speaker 2: up in price at the beginning of the season, we
- 21:16Speaker 2: didn't have, there was no kind of need to buy Thiago.
- 21:21Speaker 2: We all kind of looked at him and went, oh,
- 21:22Speaker 2: he feels quite expensive. And Jao Pedro's cheaper and Dominic
- 21:25Speaker 2: Havert-Lewin is cheaper. And all of these guys felt like
- 21:28Speaker 2: really good value for money. So Thiago was kind of
- 21:30Speaker 2: like the forgotten man of the forward line. And because
- 21:33Speaker 2: we've been locked on the Haal and Jal Pedro double
- 21:35Speaker 2: up with them one spot for someone else. And we've
- 21:38Speaker 2: seen performances, good performances from, again, the likes of Evan
- 21:41Speaker 2: Nielsen and Dominic Calvato in. Thiago hasn't been in conversations.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Like I listened to FPL conversations about how to invest.
- 21:48Speaker 2: And at no point have I heard anybody really talking
- 21:50Speaker 2: about buying Thiago. But he's low-key gone under the radar
- 21:53Speaker 2: because now we've started to see the returns, like you said,
- 21:56Speaker 2: four in the leagues in back-to-back matches now, plus the
- 21:59Speaker 2: League Cup. I do think there's an opportunity to go
- 22:03Speaker 2: with somebody a little bit different there. The fixtures for
- 22:06Speaker 2: Brentford are all right, and he's finding a bit of form.
- 22:10Speaker 2: So he's kind of one that's sitting there on my radar, but... You'd.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Have to sell DCL now to get to him.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Now I would, yeah. And actually, I'm now thinking, well,
- 22:20Speaker 2: if DCL doesn't perform in game week nine.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Same as me. He's got one week for me.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and I've got so much money in the bank
- 22:28Speaker 2: that DCL to ESAC for game week nine onwards is
- 22:31Speaker 2: definitely on. So maybe there's an opportunity to go there.
- 22:34Speaker 2: But Thiago is definitely in the back of my mind.
- 22:36Speaker 2: If we see him return again at the weekend, he'll
- 22:39Speaker 2: be someone that's definitely on the radar. He's so lowly
- 22:42Speaker 2: owned that any return from him will improve your rank.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Jules doesn't look sure.
- 22:46Speaker 3: No, it's not that. It's just that it's right on
- 22:49Speaker 3: the way.
- 22:49Speaker 4: They would have Arsenal City back-to-back in game week 12
- 22:52Speaker 4: and 13, I think.
- 22:52Speaker 3: So it's not.
- 22:55Speaker 4: The games I've watched, he might have had... So he
- 22:58Speaker 4: scored in the League Cup, but the goal before that
- 22:59Speaker 4: was Chelsea. That's the only goal in the season. And
- 23:02Speaker 4: then there's a couple of assists that, you know, some
- 23:04Speaker 4: of them are... They still count goals.
- 23:07Speaker 3: You know what I think about assists. They still count.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Of course, they still count some.
- 23:10Speaker 4: But I think there's players in better form, certainly goal-scoring form.
- 23:15Speaker 3: I agree with that.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Than him. But yeah, keep an eye on him for
- 23:18Speaker 4: sure because he hasn't turned into a bad player. I mean,
- 23:21Speaker 4: I think the World Cup might have hurt him a
- 23:22Speaker 4: bit and what happened there and after starting the first
- 23:26Speaker 4: game and then not playing at all. But I think
- 23:28Speaker 4: they're still obviously a very good player. They're in a
- 23:30Speaker 4: team that is performing well.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Before we move on from this kind of forward chat, Sam,
- 23:35Speaker 1: there's actually someone that I know and I talk about
- 23:38Speaker 1: FPL with quite a lot that works on the TV
- 23:40Speaker 1: show with me, actually said the other day he was
- 23:42Speaker 1: considering a free hit. Do you understand that off the
- 23:46Speaker 1: back of, because I think also the Pedro injury is
- 23:51Speaker 1: probably compounded by the fact that it's harder this week
- 23:53Speaker 1: because a lot of people will be using their bench
- 23:55Speaker 1: slots for the likes of Brighton if you're double or
- 23:57Speaker 1: tripled up on them because they have a tricky fixture.
- 24:00Speaker 1: People are planning putting them on the bench. So all
- 24:02Speaker 1: of a sudden putting Pedro on the bench when Pedro
- 24:03Speaker 1: had a good fixture on paper feels a little bit
- 24:05Speaker 1: more difficult. Do you understand why people could activate that chip?
- 24:10Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I do get it. And I think if
- 24:12Speaker 2: I wasn't, it's difficult though, isn't it? Because Brighton have proved,
- 24:16Speaker 2: and obviously we had a preview of Brighton versus Man
- 24:19Speaker 2: City yesterday. in the League Cup yesterday evening. So we
- 24:23Speaker 2: have seen that they can score goals. There's plenty of
- 24:27Speaker 2: opportunity for them to still be good. You could easily play.
- 24:30Speaker 2: I know Pascal Gross's last week, it didn't go so well,
- 24:33Speaker 2: but you could easily pay Pascal Gross this week and
- 24:36Speaker 2: see him returning points. I think the free hits, this
- 24:40Speaker 2: the first free hit always feels a bit of a
- 24:42Speaker 2: weird one because it's like well there isn't going to
- 24:44Speaker 2: be a blank game week that's planned around cup action
- 24:47Speaker 2: so there's not like a a really obvious week where
- 24:50Speaker 2: you go well I'll play it there because I'm only
- 24:51Speaker 2: going to have three four five however many players playing
- 24:54Speaker 2: so this time it is very much personal preference and
- 24:57Speaker 2: it's kind of like if you feel if you look
- 25:00Speaker 2: at your team and think it doesn't look great for
- 25:02Speaker 2: this week there's a lot of players playing each other
- 25:04Speaker 2: if you've got the treble arsenal defense but you've also
- 25:08Speaker 2: got Isak if you've got Gavardio and Haaland, but you've
- 25:12Speaker 2: also got De Kalper and Gross and you're looking at
- 25:15Speaker 2: it and you're thinking, oh, I've got six, seven players,
- 25:18Speaker 2: you know, that are playing in two games. It does
- 25:22Speaker 2: feel like it could be an opportunity. The worry I
- 25:24Speaker 2: would have is that you could end up taking out
- 25:26Speaker 2: players that I wouldn't take, if I had Isak, I
- 25:28Speaker 2: wouldn't take him out this week against the Arsenal defence.
- 25:30Speaker 2: But equally, I also wouldn't take out the likes of
- 25:33Speaker 2: Konza if I had him because we've, you know, we've
- 25:35Speaker 2: seen some good things from him in recent weeks. So,
- 25:39Speaker 2: I get it. I do think you could end up
- 25:41Speaker 2: making some difficult decisions though. You really have to go
- 25:44Speaker 2: and chase the upside of it and go for the
- 25:46Speaker 2: players with really good fixtures this week, dribble up on
- 25:48Speaker 2: them and hope that they outscore the players that are
- 25:52Speaker 2: playing each other this week.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Could you even wildcard if that feels extreme to me?
- 25:57Speaker 2: Do you know what? The wildcard has actually been quite
- 26:01Speaker 2: popular this week. The Jal Pedro News sent the wildcard
- 26:04Speaker 2: numbers up massively because I think people were looking at it. And,
- 26:08Speaker 2: But there was no part of me, as someone that
- 26:10Speaker 2: still has the wildcard left, there was no part of
- 26:11Speaker 2: me that thought, oh, I need to wildcard now. Maybe
- 26:14Speaker 2: it's because I had a couple of free transfers. I
- 26:16Speaker 2: was like, I can deal with my issues because also
- 26:18Speaker 2: I've got issue with Bobby Thomas as well now, who's
- 26:20Speaker 2: still flagged. There's some doubt around Califuri. Obviously, I've still
- 26:24Speaker 2: got Sabozlai. So I've potentially got four players that are injured.
- 26:27Speaker 3: I think the.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Wildcard can be better deployed when these players come back
- 26:33Speaker 2: in a few weeks time and you want to bring
- 26:35Speaker 2: them back into your team or nearer to Christmas when,
- 26:37Speaker 2: we go into that busy period and we might see
- 26:40Speaker 2: some rotation or a couple of weeks away from an
- 26:42Speaker 2: international break, which does feel like a perfect moment to
- 26:45Speaker 2: hit a wildcard button. So it isn't for me, but
- 26:48Speaker 2: I do understand it because some players will be in
- 26:50Speaker 2: a worse position than me and they will have more
- 26:53Speaker 2: injured players in their team because there's a hell of
- 26:55Speaker 2: a lot of flags going on at the moment. And
- 26:57Speaker 2: then we saw rotation, like Jules had it twice with
- 27:00Speaker 2: Bruno Fernandes and with Wisser this week. You've got that
- 27:03Speaker 2: kind of rotation as well. And if you've got them
- 27:05Speaker 2: in your team, you could have, rotation issues plus injuries
- 27:09Speaker 2: plus some suspensions and then then you're really struggling so
- 27:12Speaker 2: i think it's personal choice if your team is really
- 27:14Speaker 2: suffering then it could be a moment jules have you
- 27:17Speaker 2: got any closer to deciding when you're going to use
- 27:19Speaker 2: any of your chips.
- 27:20Speaker 4: I did think about the wild card to be fair
- 27:22Speaker 4: for this week um but then i think i've got
- 27:27Speaker 4: three free transfers enough i want to wait for the
- 27:29Speaker 4: international break because my team apart from the disaster of
- 27:32Speaker 4: last week uh it's still looking good you know once
- 27:35Speaker 4: I get rid of yeah exactly once I get rid
- 27:37Speaker 4: of Wissam Bruno Fernandes which was always the plan then
- 27:40Speaker 4: I think it will look good so.
- 27:41Speaker 3: I don't really need it now I like the idea of.
- 27:44Speaker 4: The free hit if like Sam said because we have
- 27:47Speaker 4: four very popular teams facing each other in Liverpool and
- 27:49Speaker 4: Arsenal and City and Brighton obviously that you could find
- 27:54Speaker 4: yourself in the position and potentially Chelsea against United too,
- 27:59Speaker 4: then you could find yourself in a position where too
- 28:01Speaker 4: many of your players are facing each other and you
- 28:02Speaker 4: don't fancy it. But you still want to keep those players.
- 28:05Speaker 4: So free hit for you would be the perfect solution
- 28:07Speaker 4: for this game week. But you can also wait and
- 28:11Speaker 4: play your free hit when the fixtures for the top
- 28:14Speaker 4: teams maybe align and you like who City play and
- 28:18Speaker 4: Arsenal play and Chelsea play and Liverpool play that week
- 28:21Speaker 4: and then you can go and have two of each
- 28:22Speaker 4: or three for two clubs.
- 28:24Speaker 3: You see what I mean?
- 28:24Speaker 4: So that But I won't play mine now, neither the
- 28:28Speaker 4: World Cup or the Free Heat, obviously. But I think
- 28:30Speaker 4: very soon for the World Cup.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Okay, well, we've spoken a lot about injuries and kind
- 28:35Speaker 1: of not knowing about what's going to happen with teams
- 28:36Speaker 1: and stuff. This is probably a good point to remind
- 28:39Speaker 1: you of the new FPL deadline countdown live stream. This
- 28:43Speaker 1: is kind of the nightmare as a manager, isn't it?
- 28:45Speaker 1: We're all waiting for injury updates.
- 28:46Speaker 2: You're coming to the.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Deadline, if you remember it, Jules. And you just want
- 28:50Speaker 1: someone to go, what do you think I should do
- 28:51Speaker 1: with this person? Well, that's exactly what FPL have done
- 28:54Speaker 1: for you now. Lee and Az will be live on
- 28:56Speaker 1: Saturday morning at 9am over on the Premier League YouTube channel.
- 28:59Speaker 1: So ask all of your questions. Once we've had an
- 29:01Speaker 1: update from all of the managers in their press conferences,
- 29:03Speaker 1: they'll come armed with as much information as they can
- 29:06Speaker 1: from all of those press conferences. And then they can
- 29:08Speaker 1: hopefully help you give their opinion or just maybe provide
- 29:12Speaker 1: on some nuggets from press conferences that you've missed that
- 29:14Speaker 1: will help you guide those last minute decisions. So yeah,
- 29:17Speaker 1: 9am on Saturday. ahead of the Saturday morning deadline, you
- 29:20Speaker 1: can chat to, well, kind of chat to Sam's husband
- 29:23Speaker 1: and us. Sounds fun, huh? Okay, let's move on to
- 29:27Speaker 1: the budget conversation as well, because I actually think Sam's
- 29:30Speaker 1: brought up a really important point. I mean, having over
- 29:32Speaker 1: 7 million in the bank is absolutely wild. And I
- 29:34Speaker 1: think a lot of people will have made a similar
- 29:36Speaker 1: noise to me when you said that, because I mean,
- 29:38Speaker 1: I've got, about a million in the bank, I think,
- 29:41Speaker 1: and that feels a lot. But seven is absolutely wild.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Had I not put in Cole Palmer, I'd be a
- 29:46Speaker 1: bit more in the same situation as you. But hey-ho.
- 29:49Speaker 1: I think it also changed, again, when SACA was ruled
- 29:51Speaker 1: out last week. A lot of people did move, like myself,
- 29:54Speaker 1: to Parma, or people went from Bruno Fernandes to Parma.
- 29:58Speaker 1: But actually, as we saw, as Samuel Transfer proved, the
- 30:01Speaker 1: best thing to do last week was to go a
- 30:03Speaker 1: little bit cheaper. The likes of Tavernier, Rayan, Tell, Barnes,
- 30:07Speaker 1: they're all a lot, lot cheaper. So you will have
- 30:09Speaker 1: more money in the bank. And with Jao Pedro now injured,
- 30:12Speaker 1: it's a similar choice again this week, isn't it? People
- 30:14Speaker 1: will be tempted maybe to try and spend some of
- 30:17Speaker 1: the money, or they might even drop down to the
- 30:19Speaker 1: likes of DCL, Barry... Evan Nielsen, Jackson, they're all that
- 30:23Speaker 1: little bit cheaper, but of course they're still scoring goals. Jules,
- 30:26Speaker 1: where do you sit in terms of, I mean, Sam's
- 30:29Speaker 1: made it very clear, she's actually okay with having loads
- 30:31Speaker 1: of money in the bank. What about you? Because it's weird,
- 30:34Speaker 1: it's a strange position for us.
- 30:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and everybody should.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Yeah, because we've never been there. As you know, I
- 30:39Speaker 4: never have any money in the bank usually. I spend
- 30:41Speaker 4: it all and I love spending the money and that
- 30:44Speaker 4: could be a problem because in the past at times
- 30:46Speaker 4: I've missed point one or point two to go and
- 30:49Speaker 4: sign the player that I want. There's none of that
- 30:51Speaker 4: problem so much this season because, as we've been saying,
- 30:54Speaker 4: the premiums haven't returned like we wanted. We don't really
- 30:57Speaker 4: have them anymore. That gives you so much more money
- 30:59Speaker 4: to invest in other positions. And I think for me,
- 31:02Speaker 4: more importantly, because I don't really pay enough attention about
- 31:06Speaker 4: price rises and price falls and things like that, it
- 31:08Speaker 4: gives me just a bit more leeway of I usually
- 31:11Speaker 4: have that 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 million to go and get
- 31:14Speaker 4: another player.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Because there's plenty of money.
- 31:16Speaker 4: I've got 2.4 million in the bank right now and
- 31:18Speaker 4: I still have Bruno to get rid of, for example,
- 31:20Speaker 4: for a much cheaper player like a Tavenier or Manzambi.
- 31:22Speaker 3: So I will be soon exactly like Sam.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I think, to be honest, had I not gone Parma,
- 31:28Speaker 1: as I said, I would have been. So I'm very
- 31:30Speaker 1: much guilty of this. Saka and Parma are actually joint
- 31:33Speaker 1: 12th across midfielders in the game for points this season
- 31:35Speaker 1: as well. Saka's 9.5, Parma is 9.8. The average cost
- 31:37Speaker 1: of the midfielders who have more points than them so far,
- 31:43Speaker 1: is 6.7 million. The cheapest is 5 million. The most
- 31:45Speaker 1: expensive is 8 million. Sam, do you almost ignore, well,
- 31:50Speaker 1: you definitely do, but do we just ignore price tags?
- 31:53Speaker 2: Do you know, it's such a weird season for this.
- 31:55Speaker 2: I was looking at our mini league when I was
- 31:57Speaker 2: writing the script and I was looking at team value,
- 31:59Speaker 2: which as you know, Kelly, you've been working with me
- 32:01Speaker 2: for years. I know you are. And for years and years,
- 32:04Speaker 2: I spend, I bang on both of you and everyone
- 32:07Speaker 2: who listens to me about how important team value is.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Build your team value up. I've done well with that.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Can I have some credit for that? I've not done
- 32:13Speaker 2: well with that.
- 32:13Speaker 3: I know it's useless this year because we have some
- 32:16Speaker 3: money in the bank. Right.
- 32:17Speaker 2: So this year, normally I'm like, it's really important.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:22Speaker 2: But normally Kelsey would have done exactly the right thing.
- 32:24Speaker 2: And maybe in the course of time you will have
- 32:27Speaker 2: done the right thing. But at the moment it's such
- 32:30Speaker 2: a weird season because I'm not like my team value
- 32:32Speaker 2: is the lowest of all of us. Like, and quite
- 32:35Speaker 2: a lot lower. Like yours is a 102.1. Yours is
- 32:37Speaker 2: a 102.8. Mine's a 101.3. So significantly lower than both
- 32:39Speaker 2: of you. But yeah, I'm looking at my team and
- 32:41Speaker 2: I'm thinking, well, At the moment, I don't need the money. Now,
- 32:50Speaker 2: in the future, there will be a time where I'm sure.
- 32:53Speaker 1: What's going to screw you is when Bruno, Cole Palmer,
- 32:55Speaker 1: Saka and all that come into form. That's where the
- 32:57Speaker 1: problem is. Right. Exactly. I'm saying when, not yet.
- 33:01Speaker 3: So we have to.
- 33:01Speaker 2: And I agree with you. At some point this season,
- 33:04Speaker 2: there's going to be a moment where I look at
- 33:05Speaker 2: my team and go, I can't afford to buy Saka
- 33:09Speaker 2: and Palmer and Bruno and have Haaland still. And, oh, goodness,
- 33:13Speaker 2: Gabriel suddenly decided he's the player that he was last season.
- 33:15Speaker 2: How do I afford him as well? At some point,
- 33:18Speaker 2: this season, undoubtedly the premium players will come good because
- 33:22Speaker 2: they're premium priced for a reason. They're not rubbish players.
- 33:25Speaker 2: These are like the best players in the Premier League.
- 33:27Speaker 2: And so they're priced that way. And I'm well aware
- 33:31Speaker 2: that over the coming weeks, these players will continue find
- 33:35Speaker 2: their rhythm, they'll find their fitness, whatever it is. So
- 33:39Speaker 2: right now I'm looking at my team and I'm thinking, okay,
- 33:41Speaker 2: holding them is not going to improve my team value.
- 33:45Speaker 3: It won't.
- 33:45Speaker 2: It's not going to make a difference because either they're
- 33:47Speaker 2: going to drop in price, like we're seeing with Jal
- 33:48Speaker 2: Pedro at the moment, or they're just going to sit
- 33:52Speaker 2: holding their value because nobody's going to be buying them
- 33:54Speaker 2: and nobody's going to be investing them. So the best
- 33:56Speaker 2: thing for me to do is to put the money
- 33:58Speaker 2: in the bank, chase the points with the mid-price players
- 34:01Speaker 2: who I'm happy to bounce around on based upon fitness, form,
- 34:05Speaker 2: the fixtures that they have coming up. And I don't
- 34:09Speaker 2: feel any undivided loyalty to them in the same way
- 34:12Speaker 2: that we do with the premiums. We spend a lot
- 34:13Speaker 2: of time at the beginning of every season saying, buy premium.
- 34:16Speaker 2: And if you hold them all season, eventually over the
- 34:19Speaker 2: course of the year, you'll get the points. You won't
- 34:22Speaker 2: miss the points. Whereas if you premium jump between them,
- 34:25Speaker 2: you're more likely to miss price rises and falls, but
- 34:29Speaker 2: you're also likely to miss out on some big points holds.
- 34:33Speaker 2: So right now I'm trying to build my team value
- 34:36Speaker 2: by having the cheaper players. Now what's interesting, Kelly, is
- 34:40Speaker 2: that my team value last week as we recorded our
- 34:42Speaker 2: podcast was 100.8. So it has gone up 0.5 in
- 34:49Speaker 2: a week because I've invested in the mid-priced players. So
- 34:52Speaker 2: I'm building my team value slowly that way instead. And
- 34:56Speaker 2: hopefully on WorldCard I'll be able to build it a
- 34:57Speaker 2: little bit more. But I think you shouldn't be afraid
- 35:00Speaker 2: this year to say the premiums aren't in great form.
- 35:04Speaker 2: harland as an exception possibly isak as an exception and
- 35:08Speaker 2: i'm happy to go for the cheaper options because everywhere
- 35:10Speaker 2: you look where there's a premium there's been a cheaper
- 35:13Speaker 2: option who's performed if not better than just as well
- 35:17Speaker 2: you know you look at the arsenal defense with gabrielle
- 35:19Speaker 2: and califuri or konza you look at um chelsea with
- 35:24Speaker 2: gel pedro or slash morgan rogers over um cole palmer
- 35:27Speaker 2: there's always been that kind of cheaper alternative and If
- 35:30Speaker 2: you can get on the right ones, you can grow
- 35:31Speaker 2: your team value. But don't be afraid to have the
- 35:33Speaker 2: money in the bank. It feels weird. Every time I
- 35:35Speaker 2: open my app, it does feel very strange to see
- 35:38Speaker 2: that much money sitting in the bank. But it's there
- 35:41Speaker 2: if I do need it eventually.
- 35:42Speaker 1: Okay, let's move on to differential of the week then. Jules,
- 35:45Speaker 1: you won this. You won Evan Nielsen with six points.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Back to back.
- 35:49Speaker 3: You just picked him on the wrong week, Sam.
- 35:51Speaker 1: What have you won with this week, Jules?
- 35:54Speaker 4: So this week, I'm going to stay in my Bournemouth
- 35:57Speaker 4: kind of loving because I think we said they've got momentum.
- 36:00Speaker 3: They're doing really well.
- 36:01Speaker 4: With Adrien Truffert, who played for France under Zinedine Zidane
- 36:05Speaker 4: in the last international, will be called up again.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Back-to-back returns, six-pointers, ten-pointers.
- 36:11Speaker 4: He's only owned by 2.9% of the manager, will cost
- 36:13Speaker 4: you 5.4%.
- 36:14Speaker 3: So for a defender, it's a good price.
- 36:18Speaker 4: He's guaranteed to start in that left-back position For Bournemouth,
- 36:23Speaker 4: it's very good. They play Leeds at the weekend and
- 36:26Speaker 4: have that kind of momentum going forward. And when you
- 36:28Speaker 4: see the form of Tavernier and Evan Nelson, the return
- 36:30Speaker 4: of Kruppi, as we said, Ryan is on good form too.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Everybody at Bournemouth, really. Because they're defending well, they're attacking well.
- 36:36Speaker 4: I think Truffaut, who for me is one of the
- 36:38Speaker 4: best left-backs in the league, is a good shot.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Just quickly on Bournemouth, I'm actually wondering if, you know,
- 36:46Speaker 1: we talked about maybe not wanting the double-up in attack, Sam.
- 36:48Speaker 1: I'm actually thinking there's quite a lot of options there
- 36:50Speaker 1: outside of just Tavernier and And Devin Nielsen as well,
- 36:53Speaker 1: isn't there? I mean, I looked at Silva on a
- 36:55Speaker 1: wild card, didn't go there, but now I would look
- 36:57Speaker 1: at him in defence. Absolutely.
- 36:59Speaker 2: He is one I'm really looking at quite heavily. 12
- 37:01Speaker 2: defensive contributions so far this season for him. That's the
- 37:04Speaker 2: most of any of the defenders in the game. But
- 37:06Speaker 2: when you look across that back line, Hill's made the
- 37:08Speaker 2: most defensive contributions so far with 98. Yeah, he's got
- 37:13Speaker 2: more points. He's also created seven chances. Truffaut, as you've
- 37:16Speaker 2: just mentioned, has created eight chances. He's the only one
- 37:19Speaker 2: of the Bournemouth back line that's got an attacking return
- 37:21Speaker 2: so far this season. The fixtures are really nice. So yeah,
- 37:25Speaker 2: I mean, if you want to go, viably you could
- 37:28Speaker 2: go for a Bournemouth treble up by having a defender,
- 37:32Speaker 2: having one in midfield and one in the forward line.
- 37:34Speaker 2: You don't have to play them all every week. And
- 37:36Speaker 2: there's a difficult fixture in there in game week 15
- 37:38Speaker 2: against Arsenal, but that's in game week 15. Like to
- 37:41Speaker 2: get there, you've still got to go through a number
- 37:43Speaker 2: of really decent fixtures to get there. Maybe the Brighton
- 37:45Speaker 2: one in 13 is hard as well, but otherwise the
- 37:47Speaker 2: fixtures for Bournemouth are good. So I'm definitely looking and
- 37:51Speaker 2: thinking I probably at least need to add a Bournemouth
- 37:54Speaker 2: defender to my Tavernier pick.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Okay, and who's your differential?
- 37:58Speaker 2: So I'm going with Aston Villa, but not the two
- 38:01Speaker 2: that we've spent this podcast talking about. Instead, it's John McGinn,
- 38:05Speaker 2: who's going to cost you £ 5.
- 38:06Speaker 3: 4 million.
- 38:07Speaker 2: He's currently owned by 3.2% of managers. So as far
- 38:10Speaker 2: as the Villa assets go, relatively lowly owned. He's got
- 38:14Speaker 2: an attacking return in four of his last five game weeks.
- 38:18Speaker 2: He's got the most assists in the Villa squad so
- 38:19Speaker 2: far this season. He's also supplied the most crosses, created
- 38:23Speaker 2: the most chances and also the most big chances and
- 38:26Speaker 2: has been involved in 33% of the big chances that
- 38:29Speaker 2: Villa have had while he's been on the pitch. Plus
- 38:32Speaker 2: he also takes set pieces. We've had 12 corners and
- 38:34Speaker 2: three kicks from him. So it's, it will be a
- 38:37Speaker 2: good route to points potentially to have him on free kicks,
- 38:40Speaker 2: have him on corners. And now we're starting to see
- 38:42Speaker 2: that creativity and the finishing product in that Aston Villa team.
- 38:46Speaker 2: I think he could be a decent cheap option.
- 38:48Speaker 3: He's got as many points as Nico. Yeah, he's done
- 38:50Speaker 3: really well and we have hardly spoken about him.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a few nice options at Villa as well,
- 38:56Speaker 1: isn't there? Okay then, Captaincy, Harlan's got Brighton this week.
- 38:59Speaker 1: He'll still be heavily captained, I'm sure. Are we going
- 39:02Speaker 1: there or are we looking elsewhere, Jules?
- 39:05Speaker 4: I mean, again, depending if you, like we've been discussing,
- 39:09Speaker 4: replace Joel Pedro and if you've gone for Nico Jackson,
- 39:12Speaker 4: for example, against Fulham, that's very tempting from a captaincy
- 39:18Speaker 4: point of view, I think, for Nico Jackson or even
- 39:21Speaker 4: Amon Zambi or John McGinn that Sam just mentioned there.
- 39:26Speaker 4: I think this Villa fixture against Fulham, even in a
- 39:28Speaker 4: weekend before the Champions League, I the Champions League and
- 39:31Speaker 4: European competitions are back next week by the way I
- 39:34Speaker 4: think it's still very tempting so I for now it's
- 39:37Speaker 4: still on it's still on Haaland but I would not
- 39:41Speaker 4: go to Eastside against Arsenal for obvious reasons but I
- 39:44Speaker 4: think Nico Jackson against Fulham would be very tempting.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Sam yeah I'm gonna go Haaland I think um just
- 39:51Speaker 2: because whenever Harlan's at home, it doesn't necessarily feel like
- 39:53Speaker 2: the moment he kind of feels a bit, um, inevitable
- 39:56Speaker 2: does Erling. But if I was going to go outside,
- 39:59Speaker 2: Nico Jackson is definitely on my radar of, of options.
- 40:02Speaker 2: I think he looks like a really decent alternative. Uh,
- 40:06Speaker 2: I quite liked Tavernier as well, or, or Evan Nielsen,
- 40:08Speaker 2: if I had him against that lead side, despite the
- 40:10Speaker 2: fact that actually leads have been very solid defensively this
- 40:13Speaker 2: season in the defense have been really good picks, particularly Maharamovich. Um,
- 40:18Speaker 2: If I had a Spurs attacker, I might be tempted
- 40:20Speaker 2: against Crystal Palace at home. You know, just riding high
- 40:23Speaker 2: now on back of a couple of wins in the league.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Maybe there's an opportunity there. Even the defence has been
- 40:28Speaker 2: really secure. So you could take a bit of a
- 40:30Speaker 2: punt on somebody like Van Hecke if you wanted. But
- 40:32Speaker 2: it doesn't, for me, feel like the week to go
- 40:34Speaker 2: outside of Haaland.
- 40:35Speaker 1: No, same here. It depends if you're chasing. But yeah,
- 40:38Speaker 1: I think it goes back to our conversation about the
- 40:40Speaker 1: premiums as well, doesn't it? There's no other premiums that
- 40:43Speaker 1: are really returning at the moment. So Haaland just feels
- 40:46Speaker 1: an easier cap since he As well, maybe. Okay, then
- 40:48Speaker 1: that's why we'll leave it this week. Oh, no, transfers.
- 40:50Speaker 1: What are you doing? Sam, you've done one already. Are
- 40:52Speaker 1: you doing any more?
- 40:54Speaker 2: I've done one already. Yeah, I think I'm probably going to.
- 40:55Speaker 2: I think I'm... I think I was going to go
- 40:58Speaker 2: for Manzambi, but now I've done Jackson. I don't want
- 41:01Speaker 2: to double up on the Villa attack. So I think
- 41:02Speaker 2: I'm going to do Sir Bosley to Kudus. Because I'm
- 41:07Speaker 2: going to wildcard shortly anyway.
- 41:08Speaker 3: You're going to jinx them. You're going to jinx them
- 41:10Speaker 3: so badly.
- 41:12Speaker 2: I've already got two Spurs players.
- 41:13Speaker 3: I'll have three. Yeah, but defenders, not attackers. Now that
- 41:16Speaker 3: they start attacking better.
- 41:17Speaker 2: Now they're attacking better. I'm tempted to take a little
- 41:21Speaker 2: bit of a punt on Kudus down that right-hand side.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Because the rest of it still feels a bit of
- 41:25Speaker 2: a minefield in terms of who might start and who
- 41:27Speaker 2: might not. But I might take a little punt there.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Given I'm wildcarding soon anyway, it kind of feels like
- 41:31Speaker 2: a punt might be a good option.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Okay. Jules, what about you?
- 41:36Speaker 4: So I think, I mean, I need to get rid
- 41:38Speaker 4: of Bruno and John Pedro and something.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I will do it straight after this. Do it now. Yeah,
- 41:44Speaker 3: I'll do it. I'll do it today.
- 41:46Speaker 4: I think I would do one of Mozambique Tavernier and
- 41:49Speaker 4: one of Evan Nilsson and Nico. I think this is
- 41:51Speaker 4: the good partnership to go, but I don't want to
- 41:52Speaker 4: double up. And I'm still, even if Isak plays Arsenal,
- 41:56Speaker 4: I'm still very much tempted by Isak, who I should
- 41:59Speaker 4: have bought, would have bought in for last week.
- 42:01Speaker 1: You've got two forwards to kind of sort, haven't you?
- 42:04Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 42:05Speaker 4: But three free transfers now. So I think I'm going
- 42:07Speaker 4: to use them all and probably do.
- 42:10Speaker 3: It won't be far from that.
- 42:11Speaker 1: Okay.
- 42:11Speaker 3: All right.
- 42:12Speaker 1: When's the deadline, Jules, this week?
- 42:14Speaker 4: Saturday at 11.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Well done. His face was not convinced. Can I maybe
- 42:20Speaker 1: suggest that sometimes you work on Saturdays, you think of
- 42:22Speaker 1: doing it now or Friday? But you know what?
- 42:25Speaker 4: I think like a manager. So I leave it late
- 42:27Speaker 4: like a normal manager in the Premier League or in.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Any other league. No, no, no.
- 42:30Speaker 1: You cannot say you think like a manager. No manager
- 42:32Speaker 1: forgets to put their team sheet in. True, true.
- 42:35Speaker 3: But, you know, I still leave it late.
- 42:38Speaker 1: OK, well, as Jules said, somewhat unconvincingly then, it is
- 42:41Speaker 1: definitely a Saturday 11am deadline. And a reminder again, if
- 42:44Speaker 1: you do have any last minute burning questions, join Lee
- 42:46Speaker 1: and Az on the Premier League YouTube channel from 9am
- 42:49Speaker 1: for the FPL deadline countdown stream. And we'll, of course,
- 42:52Speaker 1: be back. I'm in the studio, I think, with Josh
- 42:55Speaker 1: and Harry this Friday. Sorry if it's someone else, but
- 42:57Speaker 1: I'm definitely in the studio for the fantasy show. So
