- 0:10Welcome to all our visitors here.
- 0:12This is your first time we bless you in the name of the Lord
- 0:14Jesus. If this is home for you, welcome
- 0:17home. If you are home here then you
- 0:19know that we're in the gospel of Mark as a series.
- 0:21But before we turn to Mark, I asked you to turn your attention
- 0:24to the prophet Zechariah. I want to make a brief comment
- 0:28about the atrocious event that took place in Highland Park the
- 0:32massacre at the parade, where several lives were lost because
- 0:36of a man who Clearly was influenced by a devil.
- 0:42Had no fear of God, it just turned to Zechariah.
- 0:46I'm not going to take too much time here because I can spend
- 0:49this time explaining biblically. Why these things happen?
- 0:55And why we're seeing what we're seeing.
- 0:58But I want to give a message of Hope.
- 1:03Zechariah Chapter 8. In verse 3.
- 1:15This is a prophecy of the millennial reign of Jesus
- 1:17Christ. That means that we believe Jesus
- 1:21Christ will return. And when he does return
- 1:24physically, he will establish an Earthly Kingdom for 1,000 years.
- 1:28And in that we see so many prophecies in the Bible that
- 1:33give us a little window into what that world will look like.
- 1:36And here is a snippet of what the millennial reign will look
- 1:41like under the perfect dictatorship.
- 1:43Yes, dictatorship. Of Jesus Christ.
- 1:48Dictatorship. Intimidates.
- 1:49Us and the reason is because we've had evil dictators, but
- 1:52he's a righteous dictator and is Zechariah 8, verse 3, I want you
- 1:56to see something. Thus, says the Lord, I have
- 2:00return to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem and
- 2:05Jerusalem shall be called the faithful City.
- 2:08And the mountain of the Lord of hosts the Holy Mountain.
- 2:12Now, look at verse for thus, says the Lord of hosts all the
- 2:16men and old women shall see. Again, sit in the streets of
- 2:20Jerusalem, each with staff in hand, because of great age.
- 2:24And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls
- 2:29playing in its streets. Not wonderful.
- 2:35We saw elderly people shot. In their backs, we saw children
- 2:43scrambling. If you've seen any footage on,
- 2:45the news children with their little bicycles and the little
- 2:48lawn chairs running, not knowing what's happening.
- 2:53And this prophecy tells us that when Jesus comes and he rules
- 2:56and Reigns, there will be safety in our streets again.
- 3:01There will be no fear of looking and wondering if something will
- 3:05happen or if something will do, somebody will do something.
- 3:07They will be total Serenity trust Comfort because the world
- 3:12will know, Christ is King over our Earth.
- 3:16And so I want you to understand that this is what we're headed
- 3:18to this is what we will know one day but I want to, I want to use
- 3:22this text to say If any politician is listening that if
- 3:28you want this reality in America, again make Jesus
- 3:32Christ, King of this nation submit to his word that you may
- 3:36know, peace, like a river that you may know, righteousness that
- 3:40will rule this land only until you submit to the lordship of
- 3:45Jesus Christ. Or what we have seen over the
- 3:47past weeks, and months, and years will only grow and
- 3:49increase because you push God out.
- 3:52You invite the devil in, it's plain and simple.
- 3:55But I praise the Lord that when he comes even children will be
- 3:58able to play in the streets again and that amazing thing
- 4:00Jesus when he rose he wants kids to play, that's why I love.
- 4:04Single children, run around in church sometimes.
- 4:06Yeah, sometimes it makes us nervous.
- 4:07We don't want to hurt themselves or do anything crazy.
- 4:09But Christ himself loves the little children when they feel
- 4:12free to play in his presence, turn with me to the gospel of
- 4:17Mark. In chapter one, please.
- 4:26Mark chapter 1. We're beginning here together in
- 4:30our Bibles and verse 29, verse 29.
- 4:34Here's what the word of God says.
- 4:36And immediately he being the Lord left the synagogue and
- 4:40entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John.
- 4:44Now, Simon's mother-in-law, I lay ill with a fever And
- 4:49immediately they told him about her and he came and took her by
- 4:53the hand, and lift her up, and the fever left her, and she
- 4:56began to serve them that evening at sundown, they brought to him
- 5:00all who were sick or oppressed by demons and the whole city was
- 5:04gathered together at the door. And he healed many who were sick
- 5:08with various diseases and cast out many demons.
- 5:12And he would not permit the demons to speak because they
- 5:15knew him. Pray with me, please.
- 5:18This is your word. We Revere it, we cherish it.
- 5:24And we asked by your grace that you would help us understand it.
- 5:28And that Lord, everything that the Holy Spirit intended to say
- 5:30through these verses would be communicated clearly in this
- 5:34place. Lord, we have heard of the
- 5:36authority of your son Jesus Christ, while he was on the
- 5:39earth. We've heard of his anointing.
- 5:42We've heard of his power. We heard that when he speaks, he
- 5:44did not speak like the scribes who are void of conviction and
- 5:47unction. But Lord, in this place
- 5:50together, we urge and we plead with you Lord, please let us
- 5:53know something of your Authority.
- 5:55Let us know something of that anointing.
- 5:57The anointing of the holy spirit that brings about a great force
- 6:00behind Ministry. A great power that reaches
- 6:03beyond the mind but touches the soul, we ask Lord as we submit
- 6:07to you with great eagerness that we would know something of your
- 6:09presence in our midst and we give you maximum praise and
- 6:12honor through our submission to what we hear today and the
- 6:15precious name of the resurrected Christ.
- 6:17We pray Amen, and amen. At the end of the Gospel of
- 6:22John, John leaves us with an interesting phrase, an
- 6:27interesting statement after giving us the account of his
- 6:30perspective of the life and Ministry of the Lord.
- 6:31Jesus Christ, I'm paraphrasing. But he says something on the
- 6:34long life of Jesus did many, many things, and if all the
- 6:39things that were written about him, were to be recorded in
- 6:41books. There would not be enough books,
- 6:43not enough space to tell us every single thing that the Lord
- 6:46himself had done when he was in his three-year.
- 6:51And that statement is is incredible, but it's realistic
- 6:54because when you and I come to this text that we just read
- 6:56today, we have to understand that what we learned last week
- 7:00if you were here last week and what we are about to hear today,
- 7:04happened all in one day in real time.
- 7:07And so you can almost say that in the morning of this sabbath
- 7:10day, Jesus was casting out a double and for lunch, he was
- 7:14Healing The Sick and it's as though, Mark gives us just a
- 7:18glimpse on a particular day of what an average.
- 7:20Average day look like for the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 7:24When he walked through those streets in Jerusalem and Beyond
- 7:27and that is exactly what is happening here in marks account.
- 7:30What Mark is doing by the spirit is that he is Shifting.
- 7:34Our Focus away from Jesus Christ.
- 7:37Possessing authority over demons and unclean spirits and is now
- 7:41showing us that this same. Jesus Christ has authority, over
- 7:45sickness and disease. That there is nothing in the
- 7:49body, no matter what the doctor report is, no matter what,
- 7:51people have said, no matter who signed off on who Jesus Christ.
- 7:55When he speaks even disease, not just demons have to bow to his
- 8:00rebuke. And so that's what's happening.
- 8:03As we come into these verses, here we are seeing the Lord
- 8:06showing us that there is nothing that can resist his power and
- 8:10his authority. But a passage like this that we
- 8:13just read has more to offer us than just a topical study.
- 8:17Of how God operates in the realm of sickness and ailment and
- 8:22infirmity. We can take these Texans speak
- 8:25about how do we understand God's will for suffering and for
- 8:28healing and does he heal? All why doesn't he heal all?
- 8:31That's true. We can touch on that, but
- 8:33there's something here in Mark throughout the gospels.
- 8:37That is that is important as well beyond that.
- 8:41If you look at Mark, which is a great emphasis on Miracles as
- 8:44you heard so many times before, with every Miracle there is a
- 8:48message and the message is beyond, just the fact that it's
- 8:52a declaration of the deity of Jesus Christ, that's important.
- 8:56But the circumstances around the events of his healing and the
- 9:00different diseases that he's dealt with the situations before
- 9:04and after teach us something else.
- 9:07There are there are other nuggets.
- 9:08There are other Jewels there that would require Meditation.
- 9:11It's okay. Lord.
- 9:12What else are you saying? Beyond the fact that you have
- 9:14the power to heal and that is what you.
- 9:17And I will explore in a very short way, though we can expand
- 9:20greatly on them of what these things here that the house and
- 9:24Simon's mother-in-law and the response and the reaction.
- 9:27What is that have to say for us as Believers today?
- 9:30Beyond the fact that Christ is Sovereign over sickness and we
- 9:34will endeavor to do that by understanding three simple
- 9:36points. We're going to organize our
- 9:38thoughts here and three simple ways.
- 9:40The first One is, we are going to consider the residence of the
- 9:45healing. The residents of the healing,
- 9:48where did this healing take place?
- 9:50Why is that important? What does that say to us?
- 9:52Secondly, we will explore the request for the healing.
- 9:57How was it? How was it asked for what's
- 10:00there for us to understand in terms of how Christ liens and
- 10:03listens to the way we request something from him.
- 10:07And lastly you and I will also see you get the, you get the
- 10:10point here. The third arm, sure, the
- 10:12response to the healing, the reaction to the healing.
- 10:17The residents of the healing, we read here in verse 29, that
- 10:20immediately he being Jesus left, the synagogue and enter the
- 10:23house of Simon. And Andrew remember Jesus called
- 10:26a pair of brothers to follow him.
- 10:28They did, they surrendered everything.
- 10:31Then we're told by Mark, that Jesus goes into Capernaum, and
- 10:33he stands in a synagogue and he speaks with authority and a
- 10:37demon manifest in the middle of his preaching.
- 10:40And with one simple word, this, this man possessed with a devil
- 10:43Falls and is rescued and his say Eat from that oppression and you
- 10:49see that Simon and his brother James and his brother.
- 10:52They see this. They witness they were in
- 10:53attendance of that particular service and this this obviously
- 10:57moved their heart to see this is unlike anybody else that we have
- 11:01met and so after church so to speak that day, they invite
- 11:05Jesus. They invite Jesus to come over
- 11:10to be in their home, namely Peter and Andrew.
- 11:13And we see here that Jesus is a type of servant through that.
- 11:17I love this. You look at it through Jesus
- 11:19perspective and you see the kind of Minister that he was.
- 11:24You see when Jesus preached in that synagogue, it was a very
- 11:27public thing. It was a spectacle and I had
- 11:30such an effect that when you look at verse 28 very quickly,
- 11:33what you will see is that his Fame spread everywhere
- 11:36throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.
- 11:40He did something very, very known and it became even more
- 11:43known. But I love the Lord Jesus in
- 11:45this because when he was asked to come to a home, he gladly
- 11:50went to that home When he was about to be asked to serve
- 11:54within a Galilean house, he was willing to serve within that
- 11:59Galilean home. In other words, the
- 12:02demonstration of Jesus compassion was not limited or
- 12:06strictly reserved for large platforms.
- 12:11His Spirit empowered Ministry was ready to be exercised
- 12:14wherever the opportunity presented itself.
- 12:17And so if Christ was on the hilltops where you saw a sea of
- 12:19people and he could have just with one word so multiplication
- 12:24of food, he would do it out of compassion, but when a family
- 12:28would invite him over to his house and the only audience can
- 12:31be counted on one hand, he was still with the same compassion
- 12:35and eagerness willing to bless that family and blessed that
- 12:38household. What we see here is just another
- 12:42example of the the awesome humility of Jesus.
- 12:47This is not a man who is moved by honorariums how much you can
- 12:51give him, what kind of what kind of press he would get, who knew
- 12:55what he was doing. He served with the same Vigor,
- 12:58the same Zeal, whether people saw him or they didn't see him.
- 13:03And we see that his compassion for people was the same
- 13:06privately as it was publicly. And this is our example, Jesus
- 13:10is your example, if you long to serve the Lord know that this is
- 13:13your, your example to look too. Shouldn't we be just As
- 13:17passionate about serving and honoring the father.
- 13:23In private. If nobody's willing to even
- 13:26witness our sacrifice, are we still willing to sacrifice?
- 13:30Are we content and honoring God, regardless of whether crowds
- 13:33hear about it or not, this is the perfect servant capital P
- 13:37Capital as perfect. Servant who not only gave
- 13:40himself when he was invited to synagogues or he was invited to
- 13:43the homes of a Pharisees or a regularly held worship service.
- 13:47This was a man ready to demonstrate the character and
- 13:50the nature of God and all places and all times and may, we be by
- 13:54his grace like But I like to see this verse from the perspective
- 13:58of Peter and his brother Andrew. Yes, Jesus was a humble servant,
- 14:03but look at these two brothers here.
- 14:05After the meaning of the synagogue, we see that they,
- 14:08they didn't, they didn't want Jesus to be encountered just at
- 14:11the synagogue. They want to take Jesus home.
- 14:17They wanted to know more, they want to no greater blessing and
- 14:22so they called Jesus over to their home.
- 14:25And that's an incredible thing to see because unfortunately
- 14:28what you have as many people who attend their local church, maybe
- 14:32even regularly to worship Christ or at least in the name of
- 14:35worshiping Christ and hope. That's not you today.
- 14:39And they're content with that only to dismiss Christ and leave
- 14:42him at the church that they were just on.
- 14:46That nominal kind of faith. There's an only robbed God of
- 14:51Glory. It will definitely rob you and
- 14:53strip. You a blessing.
- 14:56I mean, look at these eager disciples and learn from them.
- 14:59The testimonies that await The life that awaits, that could be
- 15:04known when we intentionally and mindfully, practice.
- 15:07Our faith beyond the walls that you.
- 15:09And I are in right now. When we say Lord, I'm not just
- 15:12coming here to visit you for a couple of hours.
- 15:15Would you come home with me? Would you come home with me?
- 15:20I'm about to shock you with a statement, but brace yourselves.
- 15:23We don't come here to worship God.
- 15:26Take a breath. We come here to worship god with
- 15:29God's people. You and I worship God, we should
- 15:34at least throughout the week. We should love him.
- 15:37Adore him pursue him. Be mindful of him.
- 15:40And when we come here once a week, we do it with other people
- 15:42who also have been doing that throughout the week.
- 15:45That's what it should be. And these men here, they want
- 15:49Christ to come, they don't want to just thank you Lord, for the
- 15:53service that was powerful and then just walk out.
- 15:55Not thinking about I'm not engaging him.
- 15:58Seeking him, not obeying him not being mindful of him, not
- 16:01practicing his presence only to come to the synagogue and
- 16:04hopefully, Jesus will be there again.
- 16:06That is not the Christian Life. That is a defeated life.
- 16:11That is a less than ideal. That is not the standard for
- 16:14you. And I and you see this principle
- 16:17throughout the scripture that whenever cries whenever God is
- 16:21intentionally invited and to any setting there is always blessing
- 16:27consider John Chapter 2, a family wisely invited Jesus to
- 16:32their wedding, that's a wonderful thing.
- 16:35We almost have these events and things in our minds where we
- 16:38say, okay, this is sacred, this is not, this is religious and
- 16:42this is not, that is foreign to standard.
- 16:45Christianity Christ goes, wherever you go.
- 16:49If he lives in you then he goes where you go.
- 16:52And so don't be ashamed, right? Don't be ashamed of his name
- 16:57wherever you are. Whether it's celebratory or its
- 16:59somber Christ is with us and Christ longs to be with us.
- 17:04Let me give you an example of this in the Old Testament.
- 17:05Cement at one point in Israel's history, the symbol of God's
- 17:10presence which was known as the Ark of the Covenant was missing.
- 17:12The Philistines took it and they brought it to their land, bad
- 17:16idea, God began to curse them, so they send it back to the
- 17:19nation and there is no sacred place where the ark should be.
- 17:23And so it was kind of hopping around in different places and
- 17:26at one point it laid in the home of a man named, I've been a dad.
- 17:30And it stayed that have been in that house for 20 years,
- 17:35finally, David becomes king and one of the first assignments
- 17:39that comes to David's mind because he longed for God's
- 17:41presence, he said we need to go back and we need to get that Arc
- 17:45and we need to bring it back to the city of worship where he
- 17:48belongs. And so they make this whole
- 17:50campaign where they go and they fetch for this Arc and is a
- 17:52whole sermon on that by itself because they did it in the wrong
- 17:55way. Eventually, because they didn't
- 17:58do it. According to the protocol of
- 17:59God's word. God, judges them.
- 18:01David is afraid and angry at the same time and he goes, I can't
- 18:05handle it. This is how holy God is.
- 18:07I got to retract your and rethink this whole thing.
- 18:10So he sends the ark to the man named obed-edom.
- 18:16And here's what God's word says, the moment.
- 18:18The Arcane to this man's house. And second, Samuel 611 and the
- 18:22Ark of the Lord remain in the house of obededom, the gittite
- 18:26three months and the Lord blessed obededom, and all his
- 18:32household. The blessing of God's presence
- 18:37being in that man's home was so obvious that Outsiders
- 18:42recognized it, they were able to see it.
- 18:46So much so that word gets to King David and verse 12 and he
- 18:49says, let's get it. I want that, I want the
- 18:53blessings that obededom is experiencing from my life and
- 18:55for the nation's life. And so he goes and he does it
- 18:57according to God's word this time, but I find so amazing.
- 19:01Is that when the ark was an abinadab, his house.
- 19:04There is no mention that that there was blessing there for 20
- 19:08years, you don't get one verse one hint that have been in two
- 19:11halves household was being over overwhelmed with God's blessing.
- 19:16It's silent. In fact, one of his sons died
- 19:19for irreverently touching the ark when he shouldn't have, but
- 19:23for three months, obededom experiences, a shower of grace.
- 19:27And the only explanation that comes to mind is that Shirley
- 19:30obed-edom practiced and walked and lived with an awareness of
- 19:35the presence of God in his home. Unlike a better dad, abinadab in
- 19:41his sons had an irreverence and I think part of the irreverence
- 19:45is part of the irreverence that you see, a lot of people who
- 19:46grow up in the church, They become so comfortable with the
- 19:50presence of God, with the name of Jesus, with his word that
- 19:54they are. Able to handle it.
- 19:55In a way that actually violates the word of God for 20 years,
- 19:59they grew up with the presence of God and what happens, you
- 20:01have kids and God forbid, that it would be true here who grow
- 20:06up and because I'm sure it came from their father who did not
- 20:09know how to reverently act around the presence of God.
- 20:12It translated to the children. Perhaps we're now they were
- 20:17judge instead of blessed, but obededom, I'm sure he had this
- 20:21Ark and God saw his heart pross. Sure, a man who intentionally
- 20:25lived with the knowledge that God is in my home.
- 20:30God is with us at dinner, God is with us at Family Vacation.
- 20:36God is with us. When guests come over the Lord
- 20:38saw, his heart, Pasha and blessed him.
- 20:41And bless them and bless them and bless them.
- 20:45In the Old Testament, the emphasis of blessing is
- 20:47physical. The number of children, you have
- 20:49the wealth that you have the crops that you have in the New
- 20:51Testament. It's spiritual And you and I
- 20:54have an opportunity to. So live with an awareness of
- 20:56Christ in our day-to-day living, that people can actually see
- 20:59there's a piece in your home. There's a joy in your life.
- 21:04There is a Harmony amongst yourselves and maybe that are
- 21:08answered because Christ lives. Here, he doesn't live in some
- 21:12guest room. He has the deed of this home.
- 21:14He is the one who is the king of this house.
- 21:18And so, you see example, after example, of the times, when
- 21:21people make an intentional effort to say, Lord you are
- 21:23here, we will obey you. We will walk in the fear of your
- 21:25presence and reverence to your name that God cannot help but
- 21:29overwhelm them with his Blessing.
- 21:31And so we see that here, so, here's my question to you before
- 21:35you move on, And love. I asked this in my desire for
- 21:39you to know great joy in life in your walk with Christ, this
- 21:42Christ abide with you, Or do you just visit him once a week?
- 21:49Come on, be honest. Please be honest, this Christ
- 21:53live with you. Or do you just visit him and
- 21:57maybe once a year? You skip a year or two?
- 21:59You go on vacation with Jesus at a conference.
- 22:03Does he live with you? You alone can answer that and if
- 22:07you're not sure, I beckon you to ask him to come home with you
- 22:11today and that you would live with him day after day that you
- 22:15wake up with him, that you go to sleep with him and your mind in
- 22:19Christ will bless you. I'm sure the residents of the
- 22:22healing consider. Now, the request for the
- 22:24healing. We see here in verse 30 now.
- 22:27Simon's mother-in-law I lay ill with a fever and immediately
- 22:30they told him about her, Mark loves that word immediately.
- 22:35Lee and we see here that Peter and Andrew with his, their
- 22:38friends come over, they're aware of the condition of Peter's
- 22:41mother-in-law. And after they come from the
- 22:43service in the synagogue, these men had a strong faith.
- 22:47Obviously, what they just perceive to bring Christ to a
- 22:51situation that was also beyond their control.
- 22:55Therefore, Peter and the rest here, immediately came to the
- 22:57house and they immediately told the rabbi about a loved one's
- 23:01need for relief. And if we were encouraged by the
- 23:05fact that Peter and Andrew brought Jesus to their home, be
- 23:08further encouraged by the manner of their supplication.
- 23:11They told them about their precious, loved one, when, if
- 23:15immediately not later, not next week, immediately, there was no
- 23:21hesitation on their part. There were not reluctant there
- 23:25reflex by being in the presence of a great need was to bring it
- 23:28before a great God. And we see here that for many
- 23:32professing Believers, the relationship between a need a
- 23:35real need and that causing of faith-filled.
- 23:38Cry is either an afterthought or non-existent all together.
- 23:45Why is it that there's so many delays and on our laying of our
- 23:50requests down before the feet of the master?
- 23:53Why is it that we don't think about him as our Shepherd, as
- 23:58the first person to call tuned to ask for to intervene with his
- 24:03wisdom and his power. Why is it that we sense
- 24:06confusion? Or we feel lost or we feel
- 24:08hopeless or in danger that we do not, we do not immediately turn
- 24:12to the Lord and our hearts, Underneath our breath, maybe
- 24:16even desperately coming before him on your knees, as you close
- 24:19your bedroom door and say, Lord, you need to come and you need to
- 24:22help. I'll give you two reasons.
- 24:24I believe. Number one, many believers, do
- 24:27not comprehend the capability of Christ.
- 24:31They don't comprehend the capability of Christ.
- 24:34Could it be that the faith of these men was fueled by the fact
- 24:37that they just saw him speak to a man filled with the devil and
- 24:40that devil immediately had to leave?
- 24:41And they said this, this is something, this is something?
- 24:46Do you think he can heal, mom? Do you think he can call that
- 24:49fever to come out the same way? He called that demon to come out
- 24:52and they had this image so fresh in their minds that they brought
- 24:56the Lord, and they informed them of a personal challenge that
- 24:59they could not control. And I believe the reason, So
- 25:02many Christians do not pray much, it's because they have a
- 25:06small view of God. A little view of God.
- 25:13He's the source of everything that we have and he is able to
- 25:17provide everything that we need everything.
- 25:20There's not one Avenue want, not one area in life that Christ is
- 25:24I don't know if I can help you. There every aspect he has a
- 25:27remedy for every situation, he has a solution for.
- 25:32So let me ask you. This are any of you suffering
- 25:35today this afternoon from a broken heart, a broken heart.
- 25:38I'm not talking about a broken arm.
- 25:40I'm talking about a crushed Spirit.
- 25:42I'm talking Emotional distress. I'm talking about something that
- 25:45is so profound that you wish you would had a broken arm instead
- 25:48that can be true. Here's what I say to you.
- 25:51According to Psalms 147 verse 3, he heals the Brokenhearted.
- 25:57And he binds up their wounds. He doesn't just heal bodies.
- 26:00He heals hearts. He doesn't just put skin
- 26:04together. He doesn't just put fresh power
- 26:06and legs that couldn't walk for years together.
- 26:08He's able to breathe life into your soul where you can know a
- 26:12joy again and you can know something of a satisfaction
- 26:16beyond the fact that you are being distressed by something
- 26:19that is lacking. Do any of you need wisdom as you
- 26:25endure trial. Well, James 1:5 says if any of
- 26:27you lacks wisdom let him ask of God, ask God.
- 26:32Who gives generously to all without reproach and will be
- 26:35given him. this fear harassed you this anxiety attack you
- 26:41constantly And that precious verse in Philippians 4, 6 & 7
- 26:46verse 7 says, and the peace of God, which surpasses all
- 26:49understanding will guard your hearts.
- 26:52That's your emotional state, your hearts and your minds.
- 26:55That's your thought process. He will guard both of those
- 26:58things in Christ. Jesus.
- 27:02What's the diagnosis? He has the Cure.
- 27:05What's the problem? He has a prescription.
- 27:09So why is it that we hesitate? I believe it's.
- 27:12It's because we don't know the capability of Christ.
- 27:14We don't know how much he is able to zoom in on a particular,
- 27:18in a particular situation and deal with it accordingly with
- 27:20surgical precision. People do not comprehend the
- 27:24capability of Christ. And secondly, they don't realize
- 27:28the compassion of Christ. They don't realize the
- 27:31compassion of Christ. I can't help but think that
- 27:33these disciples not only learn something of the power of Jesus.
- 27:37I believe they tasted something of his tenderness.
- 27:42I believe they walk with him, though.
- 27:43It was brief up to this point, but they caught on very quickly
- 27:46that this Jesus does not serve people under compulsion, he
- 27:49chooses with compassion. I when you look at him in the
- 27:52eyes and when you see the way he handles people, you cannot help
- 27:56but think that he genuinely loves those that he serves.
- 28:01And so, they did not hesitate to bring this person.
- 28:03Their mother-in-law who was Ill who is sick, because they knew
- 28:07that this was not cause Christ to sigh, but like a great
- 28:10physician, he would be moved in the innermost parts of who he
- 28:13was to provide some kind of healing.
- 28:17Is it good? Doctor have a patient come in
- 28:19ago. Another 10K, come here, do this?
- 28:22No, they love what they do, and yes, they have bad days but
- 28:25Christ does not have bad days. He is perfectly loving and we
- 28:30see here that they believe that to some degree and Jesus is
- 28:35willing to move quickly upon our needs though.
- 28:38He does know as a great physician would went to allow
- 28:41for painful resistance to remain knowing that it will produce a
- 28:45greater strength and maturity as a result.
- 28:48That's why Jesus doesn't answer every single prayer, every
- 28:50single time because sometimes the best thing is, for that,
- 28:52burden to stay there. Guess what?
- 28:55Because he put it there. I bring this point I because you
- 29:00have many people who have this thought this false impression
- 29:03that God is just too big to care about the little things.
- 29:05You know what I love about this, there's a debate about what the
- 29:07fever was. How intense was?
- 29:09It was, it was it a deadly fever with it, just a mild fever.
- 29:12I was enough for this person, not to be able to move, but when
- 29:15we hear fever in comparison to the dead being raised and in
- 29:18comparison to the blind seeing in the deaf hearing for the
- 29:20first time, I mean, if we had a scale of sickness, this isn't
- 29:24seem that big of a deal but it is to the Lord He cares.
- 29:30He cares about the little things.
- 29:32He cares about the things that hinder us, even at a small
- 29:35percentage and the Lord shows up here and he wants to prove that
- 29:40he actually does have this deep longing for us to be whole for
- 29:44us to know something of his touch.
- 29:47And so this idea that God is too distant, and he only cares about
- 29:50like, big things in our lives is false.
- 29:54It's absolutely false. And what's amazing?
- 29:57I was having this conversation with a couple of Brothers last
- 29:59night is when you look at mark from the cover of it and the
- 30:03start to the finish, what you will see is Jesus ministering
- 30:07often with his hands with his hands over and over.
- 30:12You see several times the Lord using his hands too.
- 30:17Watch those who are in need of that touch.
- 30:21Let me ask you a question, you have to answer it audibly and I
- 30:23hope we can all agree with this. Cannot the Lord Heal any disease
- 30:27or casts out. Any Devil by just his word.
- 30:30We've seen a more than one occasion where he's just sends
- 30:32his word. He doesn't need to even be in
- 30:34the same space as the person who is suffering for them to be
- 30:37relieved and rescued. And yet what you see in the
- 30:41Bible is that Jesus intentionally comes close to
- 30:45people and he holds them by the hand or he lays his hand
- 30:50wondering Why would the Holy Spirit?
- 30:52Show us that? Let me prove it to you first.
- 30:54You have your Bibles right? Good Mark chapter 1 we read it.
- 30:59Verse 31, and he came and took her by the hand.
- 31:03Scroll down to verse 41, here's a man with leprosy Moved with
- 31:09pity, he stretched out his hand and touched them.
- 31:15A leper and said to him, I will be clean.
- 31:18Go to Mark, chapter 5 verse 41, Mark 5:41.
- 31:31Taking her, by what the hand, he sets her Talent Akuma, which
- 31:36means little girl, I say to you arise, Mark, 8, chapter 23, and
- 31:40there are other places, but I'm just coming to just a few of
- 31:42them Mark 8:23. And he took the blind man by
- 31:49what by the hand and led him out of the village.
- 31:53And when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he
- 31:55asked, do you see anything by the hand, by The Hand, by the
- 31:59hand? Why, why does it matter for one
- 32:01simple reason? His touch would communicate that
- 32:05he is not only able to heal, but he was deeply willing to be
- 32:07involved. The hand of God willing to be
- 32:12near a variety of fragmented lives.
- 32:18Shows us that he is willing to be near not in a compromising
- 32:23way. But in a way in which He is
- 32:25wanting to make us whole regardless of how broken we are.
- 32:29So why hesitate to come broken before the Lord when he is eager
- 32:33to embrace you in that state of Brokenness?
- 32:36Why hesitate to come with your concern?
- 32:38When he launched to put the pieces together, this is Christ.
- 32:43We should not hesitate. We should not be reluctant for
- 32:46one simple reason. Through this action alone, we
- 32:49see that he is showing us that he's ready to be near hand in
- 32:52hand. If you will, here's what
- 32:53Spurgeon said, quote, make a practice Spurgeon said, make a
- 32:57practice of telling the Lord all about your family concerns,
- 33:02bring sicknesses and other troubles to your best friend.
- 33:06Do it at family prayer but do it also at your bedside alone.
- 33:09If Jesus has come to stay with you .1, bring them home.
- 33:14If Jesus has come to stay with you, he will not hold himself
- 33:17aloof. From your anxieties.
- 33:20He comes with his great sympathetic, heart to be
- 33:22afflicted in your afflictions and quote.
- 33:28Mark, here wants us to see the faith of these men by saying
- 33:31immediately, Lord, hears our mom would you do something with her?
- 33:35Please. We saw what you did in that
- 33:36synagogue. You can surely do something
- 33:38here, but I love what Matthew does.
- 33:40He tells the same story, but he puts a different emphasis and I
- 33:43want you to see it because it will encourage you to do
- 33:45something that we call people. The practice, read your Bible
- 33:48slowly. Matthew chapter 8, verse 14.
- 33:52Look at this in your Bibles and it's so comforting.
- 33:54When you realize the detail that he adds to the scene, Matthew
- 33:588:14, the same story. Same Miracles, same Jesus,
- 34:03different emphasis. And when Jesus entered Peter's
- 34:07house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever.
- 34:15Matthew doesn't mention the faith of these men, Matthew
- 34:17doesn't mention their prayer. He doesn't mention their
- 34:19request, the focus turns to Jesus that when he enters into
- 34:22that same house, he himself sees the Mother-in-law who is sick,
- 34:27and then acts accordingly Mark. He was told he was asked and
- 34:32then he moved upon their faith. Matthew, he saw it and he did
- 34:36something about it. Teaching us what?
- 34:39That in Matthew, we learn Christ is already aware of the
- 34:43situation that you need to be answered.
- 34:46He already recognized that he already sees it, he's already
- 34:50there with the problem in mind completely mindful of you as you
- 34:55deal with it. And that comforts me because as
- 34:59I come before the Lord and pray, I'm not asking about something
- 35:01that he is not aware of. He's already there, he already
- 35:05perceives it. He's already calculated, he's
- 35:07actually there. He sees it.
- 35:10Well, then if he sees it, why doesn't he just do something
- 35:12about it? Well, Mark tells us because he
- 35:15moves by faith, your faith, and he awaits for you to call upon
- 35:20him. He waits for you to seek him, to
- 35:22honor him with that request. So that he can move and bring
- 35:26glory to him. Through that prayer, being
- 35:28answered. But I love to know that the Lord
- 35:31sees it because even though I pray about something because I'm
- 35:35not going to use a text like this and say, everything you
- 35:37pray for, Jesus will immediately answer, but I can be comforted
- 35:41when I come to Matthew to see that even though he doesn't
- 35:44answer it immediately, at least he's aware of it, and if he
- 35:47doesn't answer it, then it means that he knows that it's best to
- 35:50delay. It.
- 35:52And I rejoice in the Lord because of that, we see the
- 35:55request of the healing last. So, we come to the response
- 35:58after the healing. Let's go back.
- 35:59Mark together as we close on a moment.
- 36:03In Mark, chapter 1 verse 31. And he came and took her by the
- 36:09hand and lifted her up and the fever left her and she began to
- 36:14serve them. You see the reaction of the
- 36:19woman? Humble domestic service was the
- 36:23response of the woman. After she received fresh
- 36:27strength, she got up and she saw Christ, and she realized the
- 36:32healing came from his hand. And she said, I want to serve my
- 36:35healer. And so she begins to do so and I
- 36:40believe that the reaction should be no less for those who have
- 36:42experienced way more than healing from a fever.
- 36:45She was raised from her sick bed.
- 36:46You know what you were raised from the dead spiritual death
- 36:52and you were raised into New Life.
- 36:54How much more should we be willing to immediately?
- 36:57Say Lord, you've touched my heart.
- 36:59Now, I want to serve you from the same heart.
- 37:03You are worthy of my life being surrendered, for your service,
- 37:06whatever it is. And in the case of this woman,
- 37:08like a good middle eastern Mom. I'm sure the service had to do
- 37:12something with food. What else do you do in the home?
- 37:16Hosting people here. She begins to host, she begins
- 37:20to show honor and glory to the one that touched her.
- 37:24And I find it very difficult for people who claim that Jesus
- 37:27transform their hearts while showing no evidence of service
- 37:31to him. How?
- 37:35That would be like this woman being healed.
- 37:38You getting up and leaving the house immediately to go about
- 37:40your own affairs. It seems also almost insulting
- 37:44there's an it. When you hear it that way.
- 37:46And yet you have so many people who claim.
- 37:47Yeah. Jesus he's my, he's my Lord and
- 37:49He transformed my life. I when And they just there's no
- 37:55evidence of service. There's no evidence of
- 37:58gratitude, there's no evidence of Lord.
- 38:00Here's my life, here's an aspect of my life that when I dedicate
- 38:03to you in a particular Ministry but here's my whole life.
- 38:06For what you have done. But what I find amazing here is
- 38:09that Peters mother-in-law did not only direct her service to
- 38:11Christ. She ministered to his followers
- 38:13as well. What does it say?
- 38:15She began to serve them. Not just the Lord them his
- 38:21followers, his disciples she spread out a banquet and how
- 38:27you? And I love and serve the body of
- 38:29Christ is a major indication of what Christ has done in you.
- 38:36And who Christ is to you? She served them.
- 38:41And for those who are discouraged because they think
- 38:43that they cannot serve Christ unless it's in a particular way,
- 38:46realize that this woman serve Jesus in her home.
- 38:53The very same place where she slept every night, the same
- 38:55place, where she cleaned the same place where she had many
- 38:58responsibilities is a very same place where Jesus Christ was
- 39:02served. And glorified.
- 39:07And I think that is an encouragement to many people who
- 39:09feel limited, because they have a desire, great desire to do
- 39:12great things, but they feel like their life is at home, mom's pay
- 39:16attention future, mom's pay attention.
- 39:18Jesus can be served at home. He can be blessed at home.
- 39:23He can be pleased at home. And I want you to see that these
- 39:28disciples also were blessed at the home of these men.
- 39:33And Peter's family was Pious, indeed, Peter invited Christ to
- 39:37the house and his mother-in-law hosted Christ in that same house
- 39:40and what became of this home as seem to be just an average home
- 39:44in the streets of Capernaum. Look at verse 33 and the whole
- 39:49city was gathered together at the door.
- 39:51Imagine that one day, you've a handful of people and it within
- 39:57a few hours you have the city at your door, lined up to meet with
- 40:02the Jesus. That is at that house.
- 40:05I'm not saying that will happen every single time but there is
- 40:08no knowing listen. What can happen to a person who
- 40:13says Lord even my home is yours, Even where I live.
- 40:18Is yours, my resources are yours, whatever it is that you,
- 40:20you asking me belongs to you, there will be no telling what
- 40:23Christ will do. As a result of that.
- 40:26For some it will look like hosting disciples from time to
- 40:29time with good Middle Eastern food.
- 40:34For others. It may be using that home and
- 40:36blessing. Ministers who are out there
- 40:38serving on the streets serving in the synagogue's, I am a
- 40:41recipient of many people who have said, I'm sending something
- 40:46to your house. It's at the front door, I hope
- 40:49you enjoy it and you know who you are.
- 40:52I say thank you from this Pulpit because that has helped me study
- 40:54more that has helped me Council more and your services unto
- 40:58Christ for others. It may look like you being at
- 41:01the synagogue regularly and teach It may be like the
- 41:05disciples going out into the streets, going out into the
- 41:07city's, to preach, whatever it is, that it looks like Christ is
- 41:12worthy to be served wherever his Providence places us.
- 41:17And in this case, this Highbridge Galilean home with no
- 41:20Revival in their living room, And that excites me and not
- 41:25shows me that you have no idea what awaits when you take this
- 41:28thing beyond the meeting. Please do that.
- 41:32I'll end with a story when I was in college, I moved into an
- 41:36apartment after I first got saved.
- 41:40A my roommate was a Christian first Christian roommate, he's
- 41:44from The Young Adult Ministry that we were part of that was
- 41:46not too far from our church. And so we began to move in and
- 41:50we began to ask what we needed to purchase and all that.
- 41:53And finally, it came down to the living room.
- 41:55Some of, you know, this story, some of you don't I hope it
- 41:57encourages you. And so we were there in the
- 41:59living room and he looked at me. He says, well I think we need to
- 42:02get a TV. What do you think?
- 42:03And I looked at him, I said, I don't know.
- 42:07Why don't we not? Let's do something.
- 42:12This is what we stood there. In the empty living room.
- 42:14We looked at each Isis. Why don't we why don't we pray
- 42:18and dedicate this living room to the Lord?
- 42:22And he did not even hesitate. He says listen to it.
- 42:25So he grabs my hand this and we put our foreheads against one
- 42:29another. This is the first time for me,
- 42:32but I went with it. And there was an earnestness in
- 42:39that prayer. Lord.
- 42:41This living room is yours. Not very big, not much.
- 42:46We're going to leave it empty for you, do as you please.
- 42:51Within a few weeks. We had a regular meeting in our
- 42:55apartment. We weren't too far from the
- 42:56college. We weren't too far from the
- 42:59downtown area of Toronto. And five people came and we
- 43:04worshipped in that living room. We read our Bibles.
- 43:06We would go into the college campus and witness a few weeks.
- 43:09Came 15 people few weeks came 20 people it became a meeting of 50
- 43:13people on a regular basis. And Not only was there.
- 43:18No room for a TV. We didn't even use the TV.
- 43:20We had one, we had to get rid of our couches.
- 43:24And our living room was filled with foldable black chairs.
- 43:29That's all look like. So if you walked into the
- 43:31apartment you would just see black chairs stacked up in the
- 43:34living room with nothing else because we reserve that space
- 43:38for those meetings we would pray on Friday night, go out on
- 43:41Saturday. And that prayer that we prayed
- 43:45didn't come to mind, but when we were leaving that apartment, we
- 43:50didn't have much to move out. It dawned on me, he heard that
- 43:55prayer. He heard that prayer and he
- 43:58filled it with people. And it was an easy all the time,
- 44:03it wasn't because we would have people sleep over a lot to go to
- 44:07church on Sunday morning. We didn't have space.
- 44:11We have to serve people, we have people would come late, people
- 44:13would all these different things.
- 44:14People would stay late to be prayed for and all these things,
- 44:17and it's just like this. I mean, you see these people
- 44:19coming to the front door as a much of that.
- 44:21That's a blessing, there's natural burdens that come with
- 44:24that. So worth it.
- 44:28So worth it. Am I saying if you leave here
- 44:31tonight and you go to your living room, put your head on
- 44:32somebody else's head and you pray They have to get rid of
- 44:36your furniture. And your, I'm not saying that
- 44:39I'm just giving you one real example. but if you really
- 44:43sanctify, it unto the Lord, He might blow your mind.
- 44:49And he is faithful. Bring Jesus home.
- 44:54And watch what he'll do with it. Let's pray.
- 45:09We thank you for this this study.
- 45:13In a few verses. That has shown your Supremacy
- 45:17over sickness. You can still heal today.
- 45:23But thank you for the lessons underneath.
- 45:32Lori ask. That with the difficulties of
- 45:38different scenarios even from this church where you have one
- 45:41spouse, who's a believer? And the other is not.
- 45:49Or you have one sibling who's a Believer.
- 45:51And the others are not. Whatever the situation may be
- 45:57Lord. We just ask that on the
- 46:00individual basis, you would be more real in our day-to-day
- 46:03lives. And that whether or not a spouse
- 46:08wants Christ in that home or the children want Christ in that
- 46:11home. Your word tells us in First
- 46:14Corinthians 7, that when a believing spouse remains in the
- 46:17house of an unbelieving spouse, they are sanctified.
- 46:21And those children are made holy because of the presence of that
- 46:24believer in that house. We asked for that Christ would
- 46:28be more real even in the homes where there is not a unanimous
- 46:32decision for Christ to be in that home.
- 46:36And Lord, we just ask that you would have your way Beyond these
- 46:39meetings, but that Lord, they would be testimonies in our
- 46:41living rooms. In our kitchens and our
- 46:46conversations over dinner. And Lord, we just pray that you
- 46:51would be magnified. And that you would be glorified.
- 46:57Where we sleep, and where we eat, and where we have memories
- 46:59and where we celebrate Christmas and Easter Lord be there.
- 47:04Today, we make a conscious decision that as we leave this
- 47:07place, you will come with us. You'll be worshipped and praise.
- 47:12And lugged where we do life, you are the author of life.
- 47:17We give you praise in Jesus name.
- 47:19Amen. Can we stand and Worship the
- 47:21Lord together?
