Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the birds is back.
- 0:14Speaker 2: What's going on? Everybody?
- 0:15Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher, Adam Kaplan and Wamp my friend. We thought
- 0:20Speaker 1: you were going to be down in Mobile, Alabama, and
- 0:23Speaker 1: you know, I know our listeners, you know, yeah, I
- 0:26Speaker 1: thought maybe we would see things on your socials and
- 0:29Speaker 1: you know, from a mobile.
- 0:30Speaker 2: But I'll give you the floor to explain what happened.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Yeah, look, everyone knows by now, even if you live
- 0:35Speaker 3: on the West coast but off the area got crushed
- 0:38Speaker 3: by a snowstorm, first one we've had in years. It
- 0:42Speaker 3: was bad. You know, we got like eight depending where
- 0:44Speaker 3: you lived, eight to ten inches. And uh, you know
- 0:47Speaker 3: this is this just goes to show you, like you
- 0:49Speaker 3: just sometimes you have bad luck. So I purposely moved
- 0:51Speaker 3: my flight back because I just assumed that there would
- 0:54Speaker 3: be delays, which is my My original flight was just
- 0:56Speaker 3: to be eight a m Monday morning usually when I
- 0:58Speaker 3: when I fly out there, usually in the morning on Monday,
- 1:01Speaker 3: get there day before practices on Tuesday, and once you
- 1:05Speaker 3: know it, I was just to leave at two thirty.
- 1:08Speaker 3: It got delayed an hour and two hours and three
- 1:11Speaker 3: and a half. The problem is that it completely would
- 1:14Speaker 3: make me miss my connection. You cannot fly into Mobile
- 1:17Speaker 3: non stop. US USAir or USAir American is to Charlotte
- 1:23Speaker 3: and Delta is Atlanta, and I took Delta, which is
- 1:25Speaker 3: my favorite airlines. No offense to any other airlines, but
- 1:28Speaker 3: I just they just don't have enough NonStop stop with
- 1:30Speaker 3: this one. It's different, but in general American has the
- 1:33Speaker 3: monopoly it seems on nonstops. But anyway, for this trip,
- 1:36Speaker 3: so it's like, all right, I'm not that's it because
- 1:39Speaker 3: the problem was there were still a lot of delays
- 1:41Speaker 3: on Tuesday, and I'm like, why am I? Why am
- 1:43Speaker 3: I putting out cash for this when I'm going to
- 1:46Speaker 3: be there for a day. So first time I've never
- 1:49Speaker 3: missed it. My first one was I believe Josh McCown's here.
- 1:56Speaker 3: It was either two or three. I don't remember offhand.
- 1:59Speaker 3: I know was at b West one. That was a
- 2:01Speaker 3: great one. So yeah, bummer. You know, I love going there.
- 2:06Speaker 3: We get great information there. Although it's comical, and you
- 2:11Speaker 3: know this, We've talked about this for years. The weather
- 2:13Speaker 3: is chip lely dreary, it's the rainy season for Mobile.
- 2:16Speaker 3: New Orleans is about an hour and a half from there,
- 2:18Speaker 3: actually maybe a less than that. I know a lot
- 2:20Speaker 3: of agents fly into New Orleans and they drive over
- 2:23Speaker 3: save money sometimes. But anyway, yeah, so I don't get
- 2:26Speaker 3: to go. It sucks. I'm bummed because I hate I'm
- 2:30Speaker 3: telling you, man, you're not always going to be right.
- 2:32Speaker 3: You know this from going many years. You see some
- 2:34Speaker 3: things and your first vision of the guy turns out
- 2:37Speaker 3: to be correct.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Mm hm.
- 2:39Speaker 3: And for the purpose of our pod, the Eagles were
- 2:43Speaker 3: right up there. I don't keep track of this anymore,
- 2:45Speaker 3: but with players that used to the players that were
- 2:49Speaker 3: drafted to the particular team from the Senior Bowl, you
- 2:52Speaker 3: can go for it's just a McNab, you can go
- 2:54Speaker 3: back decades. Then they slowed down a little bit. They noticed,
- 2:58Speaker 3: you know, they noticed that you got to be carefu that.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I remember talking to some people in the front office
- 3:01Speaker 3: years ago about it. But overall, yeah, it sucks not
- 3:05Speaker 3: being there. And I mentioned the Cooper cup story because
- 3:08Speaker 3: I remember when he was there. Man, he was great.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Ladd McConkie put on an all time show. You and
- 3:14Speaker 3: I were there. He was uncoverable. And sometimes you get
- 3:17Speaker 3: full three dance of practices where there's no tackling. Yeah,
- 3:21Speaker 3: you're going you're gonna get fulled it's like a training
- 3:23Speaker 3: camp practice. You could be fooled, but more often than
- 3:26Speaker 3: not you're going to right and uh, yeah, that's all right.
- 3:28Speaker 3: You know, we talked to scouting people, so won't find
- 3:30Speaker 3: out what exactly what it looks like, but.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Sure, sure listen right now with the Eagles in an
- 3:34Speaker 1: OC search. I remember a couple of years with Comcast
- 3:37Speaker 1: Sports Net when I was Eagles insider there that we
- 3:41Speaker 1: went to the Senior Bowl when there was a lot
- 3:42Speaker 1: of things going on with the front office and the
- 3:44Speaker 1: coaching staff. Yeah, And there was one year me and McManus,
- 3:47Speaker 1: we talked about this all the time. To McManus, we uh,
- 3:50Speaker 1: there was some kind of rumor going on that Dave
- 3:52Speaker 1: pipp had been hired by the Eagles to.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Be story go ahead, I know, and.
- 4:00Speaker 2: We Tim and I ran.
- 4:02Speaker 1: No one had confirmed it. It wasn't like a big report.
- 4:05Speaker 1: It was just sort of like word around was this
- 4:07Speaker 1: might be happening. And Tim McMahons and I just happened
- 4:10Speaker 1: to walk near Philbin Joe. Philben was the Dolphins coach. Yeah,
- 4:15Speaker 1: and at the time, Pip was the assistant special teams
- 4:19Speaker 1: coordinator I believe for the Dolphins. So Tim and I
- 4:22Speaker 1: look at each other and we're like, hey, Joe Philman,
- 4:24Speaker 1: you got a second.
- 4:26Speaker 3: That I didn't know. I thought you want to okay,
- 4:28Speaker 3: I thought you want up to Pip. Okay.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Well no, that was so first we went up to
- 4:32Speaker 1: Philbin and said, hey, this is what we're hearing and
- 4:36Speaker 1: or we didn't even put it that that way. We're
- 4:37Speaker 1: just like we basically said, hey, what do you think
- 4:39Speaker 1: about losing fip to Uh.
- 4:42Speaker 2: That's that's how we got to confirm that it was actually.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Really good tip by the way, Yeah, yeah.
- 4:48Speaker 1: So to your point then, so I don't know if
- 4:51Speaker 1: you remember this, but this is this is how ridiculous
- 4:53Speaker 1: it is.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Right, Chip had people he was hiring, remember he they
- 4:56Speaker 2: weren't going to announce it all until they were.
- 4:59Speaker 1: All done, like sometime in gosh, like late February, right,
- 5:03Speaker 1: maybe even March whatever.
- 5:04Speaker 2: His plan was to announce the entire staff.
- 5:06Speaker 1: So he had anybody working for him for the Eagles
- 5:09Speaker 1: at the time wearing black jackets, not nothing Eagles like
- 5:15Speaker 1: no Eagles logo. So you had no idea who these
- 5:18Speaker 1: guys were or what or that they were affiliated with
- 5:20Speaker 1: the Eagles. So we knew what Dave Fipp looked like
- 5:23Speaker 1: after talking to Philbin because we googled his picture and
- 5:26Speaker 1: then we found him in a black coat of course
- 5:28Speaker 1: no Eagle's logo, and you know, we got him off
- 5:32Speaker 1: the record confirmed that, yeah, he was going to be
- 5:34Speaker 1: the Wow.
- 5:34Speaker 3: That's because just one thing I thought, I'm.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Really not supposed to do this. I don't want to
- 5:39Speaker 2: get in trouble with.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Right exactly, right, Well, what your your former coach out
- 5:43Speaker 1: of here, so it's not your fault.
- 5:46Speaker 3: But what I do recall, and you've seen this so
- 5:49Speaker 3: many times, is when let's say, you know, if you've
- 5:53Speaker 3: heard the rumor that a coach's contractors up, they generally
- 5:59Speaker 3: will take off their their their their team guard where
- 6:02Speaker 3: they go to the Senior Bowl. That was a tip
- 6:04Speaker 3: somebody got me, and man, it was like the guy
- 6:06Speaker 3: told me he nailed it, because you know, there's sometimes
- 6:10Speaker 3: when I would hear stuff about a guy's whatever team
- 6:12Speaker 3: it was, I was, I was looking at Okay, then
- 6:15Speaker 3: I look to find the guy because I don't know what
- 6:16Speaker 3: these guys look like most of the time, or you know,
- 6:18Speaker 3: I go to the website guy's picture, but I don't
- 6:19Speaker 3: know what he looks like. So anyway, I just remember,
- 6:22Speaker 3: like clockwork, there you go. The guy wasn't wearing the
- 6:25Speaker 3: team identified stuff. And then sometimes when guys get jobs
- 6:29Speaker 3: because it's called it like a it's an unofficial coaches convention,
- 6:33Speaker 3: guys will just fly there to Mobile to meet with
- 6:35Speaker 3: clubs and they get the job, they'll wear the stuff
- 6:38Speaker 3: mm hmm. And it does. Sometimes it doesn't get it
- 6:41Speaker 3: gets out more and often than not now very quickly.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Sometimes it doesn't get out. Okay, So anyway, yeah, and
- 6:47Speaker 3: most gyms don't like going to the Senior Bowl because
- 6:49Speaker 3: they don't want to be hit up by coaches or agents.
- 6:51Speaker 3: They just don't like going.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Yeah, everybody in the NFL was there, and then it
- 6:57Speaker 1: just dwindled and windled and dwindled. Yeah, that's true. So
- 7:01Speaker 1: on the subject right of searching for coaches, obviously we'll
- 7:04Speaker 1: talk about the Eagles offensive coordinator search here at them.
- 7:07Speaker 1: It's very interesting, right, Sometimes a name will surface and
- 7:10Speaker 1: in this case will be Sean Manion and people will
- 7:13Speaker 1: be like, whoa, where did that come from? And you
- 7:15Speaker 1: know what's he been doing last? I remember he was
- 7:17Speaker 1: a backup quarterback. And then you start to go through
- 7:21Speaker 1: the bio or get more intel on a guy and
- 7:24Speaker 1: then things become crystal clear because Sean Manyon himself, I
- 7:28Speaker 1: think we discussed this on the last part, does not
- 7:30Speaker 1: have a whole lot of coaching experience, right, But when
- 7:34Speaker 1: you look at the coaches that he has played for
- 7:38Speaker 1: who have influenced him, you start to connect the dots.
- 7:41Speaker 1: You're talking about these West Coast I mean, he's played
- 7:44Speaker 1: for Kevin O'Connell, Sean McVay, Matt Lafleur.
- 7:47Speaker 2: He coaches for right now is all.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Part of that West Coast offense with heavy prestat motion
- 7:52Speaker 1: Tree and so that's where the dots really connect.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Yeah, this is not a coincidence, by the way, So
- 8:00Speaker 3: just so you know how early he is in his
- 8:03Speaker 3: coaching career. He retired, like David Blow, who's now the
- 8:05Speaker 3: OC of the Commandos, retired after twenty three season. Was
- 8:09Speaker 3: an offensive assistant just because it was an entry level job.
- 8:13Speaker 3: They liked him. Lafloor liked him to promote him to quarterbacks
- 8:16Speaker 3: coach very very quickly. You gotta be careful of that stuff.
- 8:20Speaker 3: I mean, just retired. He's thirty three years old. But
- 8:23Speaker 3: he's really smart. I talked to someone who's dealt with
- 8:25Speaker 3: him for many for a number of years and it's
- 8:27Speaker 3: not an agent, it's just someone who's and coaching, who
- 8:30Speaker 3: knows him, has been around him, So yeah, he's really smart.
- 8:33Speaker 3: They kind of knew he would go into coaching, like
- 8:35Speaker 3: kind of like Davis Webb knew from talking to people
- 8:37Speaker 3: who know him he would probably go into coaching. But
- 8:41Speaker 3: this is kind of early. But man, this this West
- 8:43Speaker 3: Coast tree. I would say like sixty percent if not more,
- 8:49Speaker 3: of the guys at the Eagles have interviewed so far,
- 8:52Speaker 3: or either Shanahan McVay style of offenses. You've got the Andy
- 8:57Speaker 3: Reid one with with Matt Naggie. But it's it's funny
- 9:00Speaker 3: that they're really I think it's very cool that they're
- 9:04Speaker 3: looking at these young coaches. It's great to discover these guys.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Jeffrey and when Joe Banner was there had a history
- 9:10Speaker 3: of discovering these guys, right you know.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I think you're making a great point that I would say.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I mean, I haven't counted the number now with people interviewing,
- 9:18Speaker 1: but the majority of them, if you count Kafka and Nagy,
- 9:22Speaker 1: either come from one branch of the West Coast offense
- 9:26Speaker 1: right now. Yeah, it's either the Andy Reid style offense
- 9:28Speaker 1: or the mcfay slash Shanahan and those two are different itself.
- 9:31Speaker 1: But like it makes you think, it makes Jim Bob
- 9:37Speaker 1: Cuter really stand out because I don't think he comes
- 9:39Speaker 1: from that design.
- 9:40Speaker 3: He's West Coast, but not their West coast, right right,
- 9:44Speaker 3: He's got he Jim Bob Couter has had other influences. Yeah,
- 9:49Speaker 3: that's the thing with quarterbacks. Excuse me, Oh see, you
- 9:53Speaker 3: have to know what their background is. Yep. Like with
- 9:56Speaker 3: Josh McDaniels, it's generally the Belichick Airhart offense with some
- 10:00Speaker 3: stuff he because coaches take from other coaches or other
- 10:03Speaker 3: schemes like that. Whatever they whatever they thought they needed
- 10:05Speaker 3: to add to their offense. But anyway, yeah, this has
- 10:07Speaker 3: been clearly deliberate. They're hitting the West Coast tree in
- 10:10Speaker 3: a lot of young guys. It's it's cool, but you
- 10:13Speaker 3: know it's it's hard, man, It's really hard. If you're
- 10:16Speaker 3: a young coach who's never called plays, you're trying to
- 10:19Speaker 3: get Hurts back on track. You know you you got it.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Then it's the stout influence of of what he wants.
- 10:26Speaker 3: It's not easy. It's it's not easy to find everything
- 10:31Speaker 3: matching up with him. It's hard tell Moore that he
- 10:34Speaker 3: made it work. You know, he made it work. It's
- 10:37Speaker 3: not are a lot of challenges with this job.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Yeah, we've talked about this even I think in the
- 10:41Speaker 1: last o s search is that it's it's not it's
- 10:44Speaker 1: it's not as extreme as I understand it as when
- 10:46Speaker 1: they had Washburn before they had a defensive coordinator, you
- 10:49Speaker 1: know where people were like, I do front right, Like
- 10:52Speaker 1: that's not my I'm a zone guy, You're.
- 10:54Speaker 3: A man guy, like a big that's a big deal.
- 10:57Speaker 2: That was huge.
- 10:58Speaker 1: I mean there were you and I know this, there
- 11:00Speaker 1: are really really good defensive coordinators or were offered that
- 11:04Speaker 1: job who are like, I'm not coming here with that that.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Scheme already in place.
- 11:09Speaker 1: And then because of that you got Juan Castillo. So
- 11:12Speaker 1: it's not but yes.
- 11:14Speaker 2: You're right.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Like the run game the Eagles have had have worked,
- 11:17Speaker 1: it's worked for the most part for five years, and
- 11:19Speaker 1: it's and Stalin has been the run designer for it.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And you wonder how that would either mesh or not
- 11:25Speaker 1: mesh with people who are coming in looking at the job.
- 11:28Speaker 1: So some people can handle it, some some may have
- 11:30Speaker 1: more particular tastes of how you run the ball, but.
- 11:34Speaker 2: They are listen.
- 11:35Speaker 1: The fact that people who come from the Shanahan McVeigh
- 11:38Speaker 1: tree will sit down and listen and you know, have
- 11:41Speaker 1: talked to the Eagles, it's maybe an encouraging sign that
- 11:43Speaker 1: it could work.
- 11:43Speaker 2: But you'll have to see where they go.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Yeah, as I said on the show we did Monday morning,
- 11:50Speaker 3: you know, these typically take two weeks in neighborhood, give
- 11:54Speaker 3: or take a couple of days. But yeah, it's taking
- 11:57Speaker 3: over two weeks. Mean, it's it's some of the guys
- 12:00Speaker 3: got jobs. Some guys pull their name out whatever reason.
- 12:04Speaker 3: They have their own reasons. Some they thought they weren't
- 12:06Speaker 3: getting it. Maybe some thought that this was going to
- 12:09Speaker 3: extend a little bit longer. They didn't want to wait
- 12:10Speaker 3: because they want jobs like that. If Eagles aren't prepared
- 12:13Speaker 3: to make a decision, let's say in the next forty
- 12:14Speaker 3: eight hours, some coaches are involved in the said, listen,
- 12:17Speaker 3: I gotta work. I can't wait for this. Sure, you
- 12:19Speaker 3: know that's.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I did feel like the Eagles were becoming a little
- 12:22Speaker 1: bit like Penn State did after firing Fright or they
- 12:24Speaker 1: were getting everybody all the other college coaches were getting
- 12:27Speaker 1: raises from their from their coach, from their teams and
- 12:30Speaker 1: everything like that because they didn't.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Want Yeah you saw yeah, yeah yeah. The Jaguar coordinators,
- 12:36Speaker 3: Yeah they're gonna they're gonna get a bump because they were.
- 12:39Speaker 3: You know when guys who were like finalists they get out.
- 12:43Speaker 3: If they've got a good agent, they could leverage the
- 12:45Speaker 3: hell out of that, right you know, from the cloud.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Do you think that I feel like the Eagles, I
- 12:51Speaker 1: don't want to say dodge the bullet, but it is
- 12:53Speaker 1: a benefit to them. I think that Todd Munkin became
- 12:56Speaker 1: the Cleveland Browns head coach because it would have been
- 12:59Speaker 1: the Giants and that would have been.
- 13:00Speaker 2: The coach against the Eagles.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm that was when we talked about this like
- 13:06Speaker 3: two and a half weeks ago. Mankin was not on
- 13:08Speaker 3: their list for whatever reason. My thought process on that
- 13:12Speaker 3: was they knew what it was. He was going with
- 13:13Speaker 3: Harps right now. I am surprised. Good for him. It
- 13:16Speaker 3: seems he's a good dude. He's an excellent play color
- 13:18Speaker 3: and designer. He was a head coach at Southern miss
- 13:22Speaker 3: In college. He's not that sixty years old as old
- 13:27Speaker 3: or fifty nine whatever. Fifte hundred and sixty whatever he is,
- 13:29Speaker 3: but we'll see it's it's really hard to win in Cleveland.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Kevin Stefansy can tell you that. Two time Coach of
- 13:35Speaker 3: the Year, yeah, you know, and then his first four
- 13:37Speaker 3: years and then you know, it just didn't go well
- 13:39Speaker 3: for him at the end. But he's in Atlanta in
- 13:41Speaker 3: good spot. And this has been one of the most
- 13:43Speaker 3: unique head coaching searchers I've ever seen. It's just some
- 13:47Speaker 3: like totally not what I expected somewhere. Oh yeah, this
- 13:49Speaker 3: is obviously going to happen. And then Brian Dable want
- 13:52Speaker 3: you know, we warned people two weeks ago. We said
- 13:55Speaker 3: it would be a great choice, but we warned people
- 13:57Speaker 3: it's probably not going to happen because I told was
- 14:01Speaker 3: both Naggy and and uh Salah loved table. That was
- 14:07Speaker 3: the number one choice. Now what if it blew up?
- 14:12Speaker 3: He had to be smart to take other interviews. You
- 14:15Speaker 3: never want to be without when the music stops, so
- 14:18Speaker 3: to speaking, you don't have a job. You gotta have
- 14:19Speaker 3: a job. And he knows the Eagles personnel very well.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Coach Saquan Yep being the division, he knows it. So
- 14:25Speaker 3: I don't think he used him. I just think he
- 14:27Speaker 3: used more of a fallback. You call what you want.
- 14:28Speaker 3: That's just based on what I've heard. So anyway, sure
- 14:32Speaker 3: it is.
- 14:32Speaker 1: It is very i guess interesting or intriguing that the
- 14:35Speaker 1: two New York head coaches who got beat up pretty
- 14:37Speaker 1: badly in their New York coaching's career are now going
- 14:40Speaker 1: to be together in Tennessee, you know, hiding away there.
- 14:44Speaker 3: But it is I hadn't even thought of that. That's
- 14:46Speaker 3: a point that was, oh my god, wow.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Currently that's how they got to be chumming with each other.
- 14:52Speaker 2: One of them said, like you.
- 14:53Speaker 3: I don't know, you know, that's a great question. I
- 14:55Speaker 3: don't know. I I know. I know Braganzi was with
- 15:00Speaker 3: with day Ball in Kent City, so they know him,
- 15:02Speaker 3: and he's just I'm just telling you if I know,
- 15:05Speaker 3: some folks don't like Brian da Ball. He was not
- 15:07Speaker 3: a very good head coach. But I'm just telling you
- 15:10Speaker 3: the guy did talking the bills about it at the
- 15:13Speaker 3: time and put coaches to work with him. One of
- 15:15Speaker 3: the all times great jobs of coaching a quarterback hard,
- 15:18Speaker 3: like big time hard, getting after Josh Allen, wouldn't let
- 15:21Speaker 3: him slide. You know, he had bad mechanics and how
- 15:23Speaker 3: bad the accuracy was. Right, I'm just telling you you
- 15:27Speaker 3: have to know what was really going on with Josh Allen.
- 15:29Speaker 3: He was like a wild stallion, man. I mean, now
- 15:32Speaker 3: he's clearly the best quarterback. Wait one't like that. You
- 15:36Speaker 3: know you're coaching matters, folks. Don't let anyone full your
- 15:39Speaker 3: coaching matters like you can't believe.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Adam, let's finish off our state of
- 15:44Speaker 1: the roster on defense. Look who we did offense last podcast,
- 15:48Speaker 1: and let's start up front because there's there's a lot
- 15:51Speaker 1: of a lot of things going on with the defensive
- 15:54Speaker 1: front for the Eagles defense, as far as guys who
- 15:56Speaker 1: are not necessarily what year they're signed through, but whether
- 15:59Speaker 1: they're eligible for an extension or not.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Yeah, they're Actually the good thing about the Eagles d
- 16:03Speaker 3: the D line group is they're young, they're talented. They
- 16:06Speaker 3: all showed something. Even Byron Young was a nice story.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Good good. Weaiver claim. What the hell were the Raiders thinking?
- 16:12Speaker 3: I know that they were not. He went through a
- 16:16Speaker 3: couple of coaching staffs. He was only there, you know,
- 16:18Speaker 3: really a less than two years. But whatever the case
- 16:22Speaker 3: may be, they didn't want him at all. They wanted
- 16:23Speaker 3: him out out of there. Well, he's been really good,
- 16:26Speaker 3: like a great discovery for the Eagles. Was again excellent
- 16:29Speaker 3: waiver claim so nenty Robinson's fifth, so Carter. So the
- 16:35Speaker 3: question is what does Dr Rozenols want Right, he's up
- 16:39Speaker 3: for he's eligible for an extension, Carter if if they
- 16:44Speaker 3: have to, if they can't get the deal done. They've
- 16:46Speaker 3: got the fifth year options due in in uh On
- 16:52Speaker 3: on May second, so they could just they could wait.
- 16:57Speaker 3: But that's not why they were They're the only team
- 16:59Speaker 3: that does this. They're like, no, when the guys that,
- 17:01Speaker 3: when the guys has stud we're getting them signed because
- 17:03Speaker 3: we think we could beat the market. Right more often not,
- 17:06Speaker 3: they're right. So, yeah, Jordan Davis who had it, it's
- 17:10Speaker 3: a great decision by Howie, give him credit. I didn't
- 17:13Speaker 3: agree with that. I was wrong in terms of putting
- 17:15Speaker 3: the option, but I understood that once someone explained it
- 17:18Speaker 3: to me, I get why they did it because if
- 17:20Speaker 3: he would have a breakout season like he did and
- 17:22Speaker 3: they couldn't get a deal done, he signed for twenty
- 17:25Speaker 3: six is that's the option year that I had.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Also, I had also forgotten there were different tiers of
- 17:31Speaker 1: the fifth year option. I thought it was one concrete number.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I forgot that there isn't a higher tier, like if
- 17:37Speaker 1: you made two Pro Bowls or something, you get paid
- 17:40Speaker 1: more than because Jordan Davis did not have the highest
- 17:42Speaker 1: tier of fifth year option because he hadn't played a
- 17:45Speaker 1: certain amount.
- 17:46Speaker 2: So I had forgotten about.
- 17:47Speaker 1: That before when we were talking about why you wouldn't
- 17:50Speaker 1: do it back then there's.
- 17:51Speaker 3: A smart move, and it because you want the best
- 17:54Speaker 3: case scenario. He blows it up, you try to get
- 17:57Speaker 3: a deal done. And if he doesn't have it, they have.
- 18:00Speaker 3: They have tremendous leverage. They just have the fifth year
- 18:01Speaker 3: on I mean they this is the fifth year option year.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Yep.
- 18:05Speaker 3: I mean you would look, he just came on. It
- 18:08Speaker 3: took him long enough, but you know what them now
- 18:11Speaker 3: now the cash is really good. Cash right now is
- 18:14Speaker 3: under thirteen million, twelve million, nine thirty eight, so it's
- 18:18Speaker 3: a great number. But if you're in Jordan Davis, based
- 18:19Speaker 3: on the season that you had, you're showly going to
- 18:21Speaker 3: get better. And he for all the work that he's
- 18:23Speaker 3: put in to lose the weight, to understand what it's
- 18:26Speaker 3: like to be a professional, super high character kid, once
- 18:31Speaker 3: it badly. Like I'll be honest with you. We talked
- 18:33Speaker 3: about Swort he was drafted. It was in a scouting
- 18:36Speaker 3: report from clubs. Question how much he loved football. It's
- 18:38Speaker 3: a real thing. That was a real thing with him.
- 18:40Speaker 3: He clearly loves it. Because you can't get like this,
- 18:42Speaker 3: you can't have the giant step you saw it on
- 18:46Speaker 3: inside the tape with Greg co Sell. He was his
- 18:47Speaker 3: harshest credit based stolely on tape. Can we explain what
- 18:51Speaker 3: the problems were? Greg? Greg said on one of our shows,
- 18:54Speaker 3: he's so happy for Jordan Davis because all the Greg
- 18:57Speaker 3: watches tape of thirty two teams. Think about what you
- 19:00Speaker 3: and Davis was two years ago, three years ago, you
- 19:01Speaker 3: look like a headed for Busviille. Was there any doubt
- 19:04Speaker 3: that he's gonna be a bust?
- 19:05Speaker 2: Right?
- 19:05Speaker 3: It's sure nothing two yours nothing right A little bit late,
- 19:12Speaker 3: you know.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I think there's there's a good conversation to have with
- 19:16Speaker 1: personnel people in scouting community, and I've had it with
- 19:18Speaker 1: some and they recognize that it's tough. There's not an
- 19:22Speaker 1: exact science to this. There's blind spots to the whole
- 19:25Speaker 1: does this person love football thing? Because I remember having
- 19:28Speaker 1: very similar conversations about Christian Gonzales, the cornerback for the Patriots,
- 19:32Speaker 1: who they thought was timid or interest and he's a
- 19:37Speaker 1: baller man and like.
- 19:39Speaker 2: And you could say, well, that's just scouts being stupid.
- 19:42Speaker 1: No, because there are players who clearly are in it
- 19:46Speaker 1: for reasons other than love for football and they struggle.
- 19:49Speaker 1: So it's it's very easy to say, well, your process
- 19:53Speaker 1: is flawed if you're questioning this guy's love for football. No,
- 19:55Speaker 1: there are people who don't love football and it shows.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I just I think it's a really difficult. Sometimes maybe
- 20:02Speaker 1: you have a one year, you're not having a good year,
- 20:04Speaker 1: things are on your mind and you're giving that impression
- 20:07Speaker 1: off and it may not be the case, but either way,
- 20:10Speaker 1: that was the knock on him, And there's been knock
- 20:12Speaker 1: on other players and it's worked in reverse. There've been oh,
- 20:15Speaker 1: this guy football is all he does, live, sleep, sleep
- 20:19Speaker 1: during football, and then you know, these out of the
- 20:21Speaker 1: league in two years because the money got to him.
- 20:23Speaker 2: So it's it's not an exact science.
- 20:25Speaker 3: It Heloda No, here's a great example. There was a
- 20:29Speaker 3: very big knock on Helodi Dana yep and he obviously
- 20:33Speaker 3: became a great football player. You're right. It's unfortunately you
- 20:36Speaker 3: can't really quantify it in tape. You could see, you
- 20:42Speaker 3: could see effort, but you see technique during Daves was
- 20:45Speaker 3: so far away from technique that he could see. You
- 20:47Speaker 3: could quantify that because it shows, it'll show in a
- 20:50Speaker 3: variety of ways. But love for the game, there's no
- 20:52Speaker 3: way to measure that. You're absolutely right, like it. Clubs
- 20:55Speaker 3: get around all the time, yeah, and then I always
- 20:58Speaker 3: wonder who the hell they talking to sometimes, and they
- 21:00Speaker 3: get it when they're completely off right, when they're completely off.
- 21:04Speaker 3: But the funny thing is you and I talked to
- 21:06Speaker 3: a lot of teams. They said the same thing. Yes,
- 21:09Speaker 3: weren't sure, and it's sure as hell. Did not look good,
- 21:14Speaker 3: but this is one of the things that makes Howie
- 21:17Speaker 3: really good. Not that they were going to trade them
- 21:18Speaker 3: or cut him or anything like that, but I just
- 21:20Speaker 3: know that when coaches. I'm not saying this staff was
- 21:24Speaker 3: down or want of Jordan Davis out of there, but
- 21:26Speaker 3: I know, going back a couple of decades, there's some
- 21:29Speaker 3: times where players were done with players, when coaches were
- 21:31Speaker 3: done with players, and house no we developed players here
- 21:34Speaker 3: could you? We got to give them a chance. Yeah,
- 21:36Speaker 3: you know, and and that's that's what you joined. My
- 21:39Speaker 3: life is another example of.
- 21:41Speaker 1: This right where they could have walked away around. Second
- 21:44Speaker 1: time around has been much more on that.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Yep. Yeah, straight and Eric Rowe after one year.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Well that that was that was that was a Jim
- 21:52Speaker 3: Schwartz issue. That that's a that's a that's a mini
- 21:54Speaker 3: thirty's a thirty for thirty short that one. I'm the
- 21:56Speaker 3: dumbest thing ever. Yes, it became a safe thing of
- 22:00Speaker 3: got paid.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Yeah, he wound up being a pretty he would have
- 22:02Speaker 1: been for Eagles for safeties like he would have been
- 22:04Speaker 1: pretty good because the Eagles went fifteen years between Dawkins
- 22:08Speaker 1: and uh, I just read Blankenship before they had a
- 22:11Speaker 1: good home grown the list.
- 22:14Speaker 3: But you know it is we're gonna move on here.
- 22:16Speaker 3: But I was just duck because we're going to get
- 22:18Speaker 3: the linebacker. Just made me think, yeah, when you look
- 22:20Speaker 3: at the Eagles linebacker group as we get through this, well,
- 22:24Speaker 3: I mean again, let me let me just finish the tackle.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Let's finish the tackle here. Okay, we'll get We'll get
- 22:29Speaker 3: I'll be in a second. Moro Jomo, what a season
- 22:34Speaker 3: he had, certainly a breakout season in terms of pressure,
- 22:38Speaker 3: decent sack numbers. He's a good football player. He's just
- 22:41Speaker 3: with the run, you know, he's not wide, He's just
- 22:43Speaker 3: not that strong everything the Eagles thought he can be
- 22:48Speaker 3: he is. He's another guy. What Why the hell? What
- 22:52Speaker 3: was our what was our reporting on this? Why did
- 22:54Speaker 3: he drop to the seventh? Was it maturity or something? Yeah?
- 22:56Speaker 1: Again, this is one of those things where it wasn't
- 22:58Speaker 1: a love football, was more like a odd locker room
- 23:02Speaker 1: guy like almost too smart.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Too smart? Yeah, yeah, that was it wrong again? This
- 23:09Speaker 3: this guy like, come on the tape, the tape Cosell
- 23:13Speaker 3: when when Greg said he really liked Ojo was he
- 23:16Speaker 3: wanted to know what he asked us? We said, Hey,
- 23:19Speaker 3: it's could he be coach? You know, could you coach
- 23:23Speaker 3: him hard because he thinks he knows everything kind of thing. Yeah, okay,
- 23:27Speaker 3: guess what they were clubs are wrong?
- 23:30Speaker 1: Yep, you know, guys, guy told me they thought Moro
- 23:34Speaker 1: Jomo was the best interior rusher on the Longhorns defense
- 23:37Speaker 1: that year.
- 23:38Speaker 3: So uh, Now for Barron Young, I mean Byron Murphy
- 23:41Speaker 3: or whatever Saddle drafted.
- 23:43Speaker 2: I think he was drafted not the same, maybe not
- 23:46Speaker 2: to check.
- 23:47Speaker 1: But either way, either way, I mean, if you have
- 23:50Speaker 1: that kind of talent and at that level of school
- 23:52Speaker 1: and someone thinks that about you, you probably shouldn't be
- 23:55Speaker 1: a seventh round pick or wherever.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Yeah, he was seventh. It's just it's again, it's it's
- 24:02Speaker 3: absurd because think about it, he's on a rookie contract,
- 24:05Speaker 3: unbelievably cheap. There's only so much cash you could spend.
- 24:10Speaker 3: They don't. Again, they don't have to extend him. He's
- 24:12Speaker 3: signed for twenty six but he's only going to make
- 24:14Speaker 3: one point one four five million, right, right, I'm sure
- 24:17Speaker 3: he's gonna want the cash.
- 24:19Speaker 2: What did he did?
- 24:20Speaker 1: He he led the team in sacks, right, he had
- 24:22Speaker 1: six and a half or something like that.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Not looking, I just know he had a good decent
- 24:26Speaker 3: sack number.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:27Speaker 3: But the thing is, his pressure rate's really good. He's
- 24:30Speaker 3: just a good football player. He can't He's not like
- 24:32Speaker 3: he's going to put on masks on his frame, right,
- 24:35Speaker 3: It's just he super long arms for that position. Yep,
- 24:40Speaker 3: good explosionary quickness, explosion. He has good hands for guys
- 24:45Speaker 3: not you know, real big physically, Yep, there's a mass,
- 24:48Speaker 3: but guy's just a It's and obviously Kevin Clint hurt
- 24:51Speaker 3: does help. Yeah, delone coach Yep.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Anyway, Yeah, by the way, amazing mil Williams.
- 24:58Speaker 2: What a freaking story man.
- 24:59Speaker 1: He it's so hard to have the year that he
- 25:01Speaker 1: had last year and then go follow it up and
- 25:03Speaker 1: have just as good, if not better, every year, and
- 25:06Speaker 1: he is well, I know.
- 25:08Speaker 3: If I'm talking to people close to the Patriots early on,
- 25:12Speaker 3: they were like, OK, yeah, he had a fit because
- 25:15Speaker 3: it's it's a different scheme and the techniques are different.
- 25:18Speaker 3: It's hard.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Plus he had an injury. I think he hit a
- 25:21Speaker 2: high ankles.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Brain. Yeah, that's all about his pressure rate it But
- 25:26Speaker 3: he just what quarterback? Did he abuse the other guy?
- 25:28Speaker 3: What game was it?
- 25:29Speaker 1: He just I mean, he was throwing Minors around in
- 25:31Speaker 1: the AFC Championship game, and Minors is a pretty good guard.
- 25:34Speaker 3: He's really all pro. But but it was actually, you know,
- 25:38Speaker 3: it wasn't that game though. It was one of the games.
- 25:42Speaker 3: What's that was it?
- 25:43Speaker 2: The Chargers game?
- 25:44Speaker 3: Might have been the Charger game? Yeah, it sounds right.
- 25:47Speaker 3: I just remember like took Soda who watched the tape
- 25:50Speaker 3: and they had invested reason too, said, holy bleep, this
- 25:53Speaker 3: is unbelieve what this guy's doing and stop walls you
- 25:55Speaker 3: were alluding to? Yahude, he's a final a football player.
- 26:00Speaker 3: He's you know what I love because you know he
- 26:04Speaker 3: had the he had the short arms.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Yep.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Okay, you know I went to also lower level of
- 26:11Speaker 3: college football, Louisian attack. Let's see what happens yep. Using
- 26:15Speaker 3: the motion line, two things could be right. McNeil Studd
- 26:19Speaker 3: got paid twenty five large season then and Milt Williams
- 26:23Speaker 3: twenty eight million a season. How about that?
- 26:25Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 26:25Speaker 1: How about are By the way, my other famous line
- 26:28Speaker 1: is getting smashed to bits this year, which is like
- 26:30Speaker 1: the Eagles are the rare team that will fire, hire
- 26:33Speaker 1: and fire coaches even in years that they make the playoffs. Well,
- 26:36Speaker 1: it seems like a lot of teams that made the
- 26:38Speaker 1: playoffs this year still fired coaches, including the Broncos firing
- 26:42Speaker 1: your offensive coordinator making the AFC Championship game.
- 26:46Speaker 3: They're putting in Barty yet. Yeah, he doesn't call the place,
- 26:48Speaker 3: but he'd been. That's a he's a champagne guy, yep.
- 26:52Speaker 3: With Yeah, over fifteen years to over fifteen years, got
- 26:57Speaker 3: has thawn on hard times. Yeah, Joel Lombart's a shame
- 27:00Speaker 3: he's as a great grand grandson of Evince.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Great grants or no grandson, yeah, grandson of well, he
- 27:07Speaker 2: looks like him. He looks like Chargers.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Chargers make the playoffs, win eleven games, they fire their
- 27:11Speaker 1: offensive coordinator.
- 27:12Speaker 2: I mean it is.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Really You're right, the Eagles are not the only team.
- 27:15Speaker 3: But look, look it's we'll see what happens with the
- 27:18Speaker 3: Eagle situation. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 27:22Speaker 1: So, So let's get to the Edges because I think
- 27:23Speaker 1: this is kind of interesting because of the free agency
- 27:28Speaker 1: here for for uh, what's his face?
- 27:30Speaker 2: Uh, I can't Jalen.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Phillips, right, yeah, Jail Phillips is an unrestricted free agent.
- 27:35Speaker 1: They gave up a third round pick for him. He's
- 27:37Speaker 1: perfect for what they do. He played the most snaps
- 27:40Speaker 1: once among all the Edges when he came over. So
- 27:43Speaker 1: if you can get this guy signed, and you know
- 27:46Speaker 1: you're gonna have to pay Jaelex Hunt this time next year,
- 27:49Speaker 1: it does make me wonder what the future for Nolan
- 27:51Speaker 1: Smith might be and if there's any trade value for him,
- 27:55Speaker 1: If you don't think you're going to wind up signing
- 27:58Speaker 1: him to a long term just just spitballing.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Yeah, No, there's to me he made the big jump
- 28:07Speaker 3: in year two, then then towards the triceps. Yes, and
- 28:13Speaker 3: then he retore it.
- 28:14Speaker 1: But don't forget he had the shoulder. He had that
- 28:17Speaker 1: shoulder injury in training camp of year two, came back
- 28:22Speaker 1: from it, had a little bit of a he might
- 28:26Speaker 1: have been on the injury report with it a little bit.
- 28:27Speaker 2: He had a shoulder thing.
- 28:29Speaker 1: So, and then had the triceps injury, and then even
- 28:32Speaker 1: this camp had another shoulder.
- 28:34Speaker 3: He strained it. Yeah, he strained restrained his triceps, right,
- 28:40Speaker 3: It's you know, it's funny. Other teams tell us season
- 28:43Speaker 3: they think he's a much better run defender than he's
- 28:45Speaker 3: a pass rusher. Hmm. He is really good against the run.
- 28:49Speaker 3: I didn't really know it quite to the way this
- 28:51Speaker 3: one personnal guy told me. Goesette. Sometimes he goes a
- 28:54Speaker 3: little bit lower than he should, but he plays with
- 28:57Speaker 3: such great technique versus the run as a force defender.
- 28:59Speaker 3: He's really good at it. But that's not why they
- 29:01Speaker 3: drafted in the first round. It's nice to have. It's good, right,
- 29:04Speaker 3: So and Joos Hunt is head to stud them, but
- 29:09Speaker 3: for lack of a better term, he is I can't,
- 29:12Speaker 3: I'm I'm he's definitely head a schedule, like he's a
- 29:14Speaker 3: year head of schedule. Like this is hard to believe.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Yeah, he's fun to watch, by the way, he's just
- 29:19Speaker 2: fun to watch. You put the energy.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Laugh. Yeah, drop like as someone with a note team
- 29:25Speaker 3: told me in scouting, is that you have to remember
- 29:30Speaker 3: he was once a safety and that's why he dropped
- 29:31Speaker 3: so well in coverage.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Yep.
- 29:33Speaker 3: They're not bachelor for doing it with him. You know
- 29:35Speaker 3: they'll they'll he get to do it. So so to
- 29:37Speaker 3: move this along here with the edges, Phillip's gonna come
- 29:39Speaker 3: down to what he wants, right they right now on
- 29:42Speaker 3: our contract, it's Hunt and Smith Phillips. Big O'jelari a
- 29:47Speaker 3: conqueror who got suffered an injury. Although Andrew said he
- 29:51Speaker 3: saw him in the locker room, I guess he said he's
- 29:52Speaker 3: gonna be good to go. He's he's recovered from his injury.
- 29:55Speaker 3: That's good for oh both future for free agency. Joshushe
- 29:58Speaker 3: who did nothing to get benched, but he did a
- 30:02Speaker 3: good job. He actually was a bargain basement guy. Showed
- 30:05Speaker 3: he could still play, as co Sell would say, there's
- 30:07Speaker 3: something there he could still play there.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Yep.
- 30:10Speaker 3: You know, but they to me, they could do better
- 30:14Speaker 3: at the Nolan Smith as an intrusher. I know he's
- 30:16Speaker 3: good against the run, but they need to stay healthy too.
- 30:18Speaker 3: That's another problem, is he's got to stay on the field. Yeah,
- 30:22Speaker 3: more productive as a pass rush yep.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Yeah, No, it'll be interesting to see, you know what
- 30:27Speaker 2: the Eagles do.
- 30:27Speaker 1: I think they're gonna wind up having an offensive heavy
- 30:30Speaker 1: draft because they need to replace some guys there.
- 30:32Speaker 2: So we'll see, we'll see.
- 30:34Speaker 3: To me, and we won't. We don't talk about draft
- 30:36Speaker 3: for much later. But it's offensive line and the receiver
- 30:42Speaker 3: obviously depending on what they do with aj Brown, and
- 30:44Speaker 3: obviously what team they run, because if a guy wants
- 30:46Speaker 3: to run a ton of eleven, they're definitely gonna have
- 30:48Speaker 3: to invest in receiver, edged edge and corner. Like. They
- 30:51Speaker 3: have so many things going on both sides of the football. Like,
- 30:54Speaker 3: there's a lot of questions for this team.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Very much, all right, So let's let's talk about the
- 31:00Speaker 1: the inside backers, I mean, the big the big question
- 31:02Speaker 1: is is Nikobe. You've got Zach Ball and who still
- 31:04Speaker 1: signed through twenty twenty seven, jo Hot Campbell another good
- 31:07Speaker 1: first round pick, trotter Mandon and of course NA Kobe
- 31:12Speaker 1: Dean is the unrestricted free agent, so I mean the
- 31:14Speaker 1: biggest change would be if And again it's I hate.
- 31:20Speaker 2: I don't like to talk in absolutes, especially after.
- 31:22Speaker 1: What happened with n Kobe where he wind up basically
- 31:24Speaker 1: getting the starting job back, which.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Is very difficult to do and playing at a high level.
- 31:28Speaker 1: But you know, you can't keep to hot Campbell off
- 31:30Speaker 1: the field too much longer the first round pick.
- 31:33Speaker 3: What I know, we're going to use this phrase for
- 31:35Speaker 3: the ninth year. Never say never with Dean coming back.
- 31:38Speaker 3: It's served us well because of the strangeness, particularly with
- 31:40Speaker 3: this football team and the way things happen. You never
- 31:43Speaker 3: you could never say never with with this situation because
- 31:45Speaker 3: you just mentioned it. Dean a medical marvel. He changed agencies.
- 31:49Speaker 3: He wants to get paid. I don't blame him. We're
- 31:52Speaker 3: hoping to talk to N Kobe when I'm at Super
- 31:53Speaker 3: Bowl next week, but man, he just can Look if
- 31:58Speaker 3: they played a forty three front different still sorry, man,
- 32:00Speaker 3: We're not talking about based defin We're saying overall, if
- 32:02Speaker 3: they run a forty three, they don't, They're thirty four.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Right by the way, I'm glad you brought that up.
- 32:08Speaker 1: We sort of got some emails or tweet responses back
- 32:12Speaker 1: when Nikobe was healthy and Johan was playing. Can't they
- 32:15Speaker 1: just switch to a four to three? And the answer
- 32:18Speaker 1: is no. It's not just like a structural thing. It's
- 32:21Speaker 1: what your personnel does. It's how they attack gaps, it's
- 32:25Speaker 1: how they look at their body sizes. They're built for
- 32:29Speaker 1: a three four. They have players who would probably struggle
- 32:32Speaker 1: to play in a four to three who are really
- 32:34Speaker 1: good in a three four, including having a nose like
- 32:37Speaker 1: three like Jordan Davis. Could Jordan Davis be a three
- 32:40Speaker 1: technique in a four to three maybe, but then you're
- 32:43Speaker 1: probably not using him to the best of his abilities exactly.
- 32:46Speaker 3: So although he's improving, he made some stretch as a
- 32:50Speaker 3: pass rusher, it's not as zero as a pass rusher anymore.
- 32:53Speaker 3: That was that was amongst his issues. He just had
- 32:55Speaker 3: no technique. He didn't understand how to rush the passer,
- 32:58Speaker 3: and he's getting better at it. But looking at linebacker
- 33:02Speaker 3: bonsigned for twenty seven, Camel for twenty eight, trotching or
- 33:05Speaker 3: through twenty seven, Mandan smiled Manda through twenty eight. So there,
- 33:10Speaker 3: this is this is the comedy of the show in
- 33:12Speaker 3: our ninth year, we folks have kind of new to
- 33:15Speaker 3: our platform. It would be painful, Like Manning some years,
- 33:19Speaker 3: we have this particular show that we're doing right now.
- 33:21Speaker 3: We would do because we do a state of the
- 33:23Speaker 3: roster and then we give the intel as we get
- 33:25Speaker 3: flips for free. Here's where they here's what we're told.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Here's a cash but cash not spend, spend. It was annoying.
- 33:32Speaker 3: I mean, God blessed Mary and right.
- 33:37Speaker 2: We're like, oh, well, you know they go into next
- 33:38Speaker 2: year with like Duke Riley.
- 33:40Speaker 3: And exactly now Alex Singlet didn't work here. Good for Alex,
- 33:47Speaker 3: ladies doing well it could be, you know, it didn't
- 33:49Speaker 3: you know, unfortunately didn't win last week. But he's made
- 33:52Speaker 3: a lot of money. Good for him. But overall it
- 33:54Speaker 3: was it was such an embarrassment, total embarrassment. What they
- 33:58Speaker 3: were at linebacker. You just had a bunch of backups
- 34:00Speaker 3: out of play.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Now TJ.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Edwards, look, he at first it didn't look good. He
- 34:04Speaker 3: became a player. Good for him, yep, but now they
- 34:08Speaker 3: any team that runs an oddo man front and playing
- 34:11Speaker 3: two inside backers, show me a team that's in better
- 34:14Speaker 3: shape with depth than the Eagles couldn't eat obviously under contract,
- 34:19Speaker 3: he's not. But just never never thought we'd say it
- 34:22Speaker 3: in or nine years. I just it's but how he
- 34:24Speaker 3: talked about it more than once in the last couple years.
- 34:27Speaker 3: They had to evolve when they went when they signed Barkley.
- 34:29Speaker 3: It's not what they do right, they did it, you know.
- 34:32Speaker 3: So that's why you've got to be careful of pigeon holding.
- 34:36Speaker 3: The Eagles. Oh, they just want to throw the football
- 34:38Speaker 3: the time. I get that, but we also see when
- 34:41Speaker 3: certain things happen and it can help your quarterback out
- 34:44Speaker 3: and help your defense out. It's it's a different way
- 34:46Speaker 3: of thinking. I didn't think it ever happened either, but hey, it.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Works right in the back end. They really don't stand
- 34:52Speaker 2: to lose too much. The big unrestricted guys will read blanketship.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Obviously it's safety. You know. Adori is an unrestricted free agent.
- 35:00Speaker 1: I'm sure the Eagles feel like after this past year,
- 35:02Speaker 1: you know, if if worse comes to worse, was they
- 35:05Speaker 1: get another one year veteran free agent to compete with
- 35:08Speaker 1: a draft pick or with Corriyan Bennett in year two
- 35:11Speaker 1: of learning the system, that they'll be okay because they
- 35:15Speaker 1: have Coop and they have Quinnon signed. Those guys will
- 35:18Speaker 1: have to get paid at this time next year. You
- 35:20Speaker 1: know they did draft Mac McWilliams. Will give him another year.
- 35:23Speaker 1: This is Michael Carter. He still was a year right.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Yeah, Oh he's he's made.
- 35:27Speaker 4: Yeah, his money, you're going a lot of money.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Look, they he would have to take a significant pickup
- 35:31Speaker 3: to come back. He gets how much money he's gonna
- 35:33Speaker 3: make and cash the season.
- 35:35Speaker 2: It was something is it like eighteen million or something?
- 35:37Speaker 3: Crazy?
- 35:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what it was. That's right.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, And and now his Oh I think what happened?
- 35:48Speaker 3: I if I have to look this up. I think
- 35:51Speaker 3: they might have redid his contract. I'll look this up.
- 35:54Speaker 3: I could, I could.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Look this up. Oh you mean the Eagles might have after.
- 35:58Speaker 3: I think at the time of the trade, they may
- 36:00Speaker 3: have done something with his contract.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Okay, I thought they just something to just make sure
- 36:05Speaker 2: that he would be a free agent.
- 36:06Speaker 3: But yeah, they might have.
- 36:09Speaker 2: So.
- 36:09Speaker 3: I know there was a very small guarantee of less
- 36:12Speaker 3: than one point four million, but they may have cut
- 36:15Speaker 3: the total cash too. And I'll look this up.
- 36:17Speaker 2: I got it all.
- 36:18Speaker 3: You do that.
- 36:19Speaker 1: I mean Mitchell signed through twenty seven to Jane through
- 36:22Speaker 1: twenty seven, Bennett through next year. Macouba obviously is on
- 36:27Speaker 1: the second. We'll enter the second year of a four
- 36:28Speaker 1: year deal. Same with mc williams. Ringo will still be
- 36:32Speaker 1: signed through next year. So they certainly have have bodies
- 36:35Speaker 1: and Ringo has been a really good special teamer for them.
- 36:38Speaker 1: I know that the Ringo truthers are upset with us,
- 36:40Speaker 1: but you know, he just hasn't been a starting corner.
- 36:43Speaker 2: You don't work. I mean, honestly, he's not a number
- 36:46Speaker 2: three corner.
- 36:47Speaker 3: For being honest, he you know, people got man to
- 36:50Speaker 3: me in the comments section that said he's number four.
- 36:52Speaker 3: I was totally wrong. Like you just said, I don't
- 36:54Speaker 3: think he's it. Can't put him in the defense, you
- 36:56Speaker 3: just can't. Yeah, it's the lower bodies still, for this
- 37:00Speaker 3: is a real thing. We talked about this when he
- 37:02Speaker 3: was drafted. I only we probably could have done a
- 37:04Speaker 3: better job of going harder on that. I didn't think
- 37:07Speaker 3: it would be this bad of a problem. It's why
- 37:09Speaker 3: he's so great running down because he's got great straight
- 37:11Speaker 3: line speed.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Yep, it's a.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Lack of lower body flexibility. That's why we would seeven
- 37:16Speaker 3: train can't get burned repeatedly because he can't swivel. The
- 37:19Speaker 3: can't just turn. It's hard. DK Metcalf. You never dk Metcalf.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Other than the neck issue, he had trouble throttling down,
- 37:28Speaker 3: major problems doing It's why you really see short hair,
- 37:31Speaker 3: like just the pass of the flat, yeah, or something
- 37:34Speaker 3: within you just don't see that. That's not He can't
- 37:36Speaker 3: do that correct. He can't stop and start very quickly.
- 37:39Speaker 3: It's hard. It's a real thing. We learned a lot
- 37:40Speaker 3: through the Ringo situation. But yeah, he's a phenomenal special
- 37:44Speaker 3: teams player.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Like that's yeah, that's him and Sydney Brown.
- 37:46Speaker 1: They're tremendous athletes, and they're probably better athletes than they
- 37:51Speaker 1: are defensive backs, you know, like they probably they Yeah,
- 37:55Speaker 1: there definitely are, but they're they're somewhat limited by the
- 37:59Speaker 1: fact that they're so athletic that they don't have the
- 38:02Speaker 1: great technique that goes with the position.
- 38:04Speaker 2: And some of that is because of their athleticism.
- 38:06Speaker 1: It's unfortunate you just mentioned it how it could work
- 38:09Speaker 1: against you being an athlete football player.
- 38:12Speaker 4: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying
- 38:14Speaker 4: to clean up their habits and that includes me. Honestly,

- 41:25Speaker 2: Twenty one and up.
- 41:27Speaker 3: The Knockolm City Brown and I Know the Eagle said
- 41:31Speaker 3: they felt at what that they had a good handle
- 41:34Speaker 3: on it, because he was not very good in coverage
- 41:35Speaker 3: at Illinois and unfortunate showed up. Yeah, and then he
- 41:40Speaker 3: got the A's. The sad part about it was he
- 41:43Speaker 3: finally started to make progress sinning towards ACL that last
- 41:46Speaker 3: game of rookie Seas against the Giants, I believe without
- 41:48Speaker 3: looking it up, I think that's what happened. He's really
- 41:51Speaker 3: never been the same, not from a physical standpoint. Just
- 41:53Speaker 3: he got behind VIC talked about it, and you're two
- 41:56Speaker 3: and he's just a special seams player. He's good at
- 41:59Speaker 3: it and every once while he's too good because he
- 42:01Speaker 3: gets bad penalties. Yes, but that's they're just gonna have
- 42:05Speaker 3: to learn. You don't draft box players early. You just don't.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Yep.
- 42:09Speaker 3: They learned it with Ja Kwon Jarrett, and they learned
- 42:11Speaker 3: it with Sydney Brown.
- 42:12Speaker 2: Well that's a name from the past. That's right now
- 42:15Speaker 2: senior ball. A couple of years ago.
- 42:16Speaker 3: He's with I think he's director of player Programs for
- 42:19Speaker 3: the Panthers without looking.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Because Matt Ruhle brought him in there.
- 42:23Speaker 3: When Matt was with the Panthers, Temple could call connection.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Had to figure it out myself. I'm like, how
- 42:28Speaker 2: did he get align with the Panthers and then he
- 42:29Speaker 2: goes rule. I'm like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, that makes sense.
- 42:33Speaker 2: All right. So did you get the numbers on Michael Carter?
- 42:36Speaker 3: Yeah, no, No, it's it's it's that that. Yeah, it's
- 42:41Speaker 3: uh the cash is small, yeah, I mean, excuse me,
- 42:43Speaker 3: the cash the guarantee is very small. H So to
- 42:47Speaker 3: come back, you know, he's the kind of guy. Obviously,
- 42:51Speaker 3: did Jane place a part of this if they moved
- 42:53Speaker 3: Coop to corner? Michael Carter his first two years was
- 42:57Speaker 3: really good and then it just fell apart. Yeah, just
- 42:59Speaker 3: he they kept playing Isaiah Oliver, Isaiah Oliver over him
- 43:04Speaker 3: and another guy, and it just they they just said,
- 43:06Speaker 3: he said adios.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Yeah, he could probably play well in a stable environment.
- 43:11Speaker 1: I mean you saw he was the dime corner that
- 43:13Speaker 1: Vick was starting. Vick had not played dime all year
- 43:15Speaker 1: until Michael Carter came along, and he didn't. I think
- 43:18Speaker 1: he felt me there was an advantage to it. So
- 43:21Speaker 1: it would be nice if they could work something out
- 43:22Speaker 1: for Michael Carter.
- 43:23Speaker 3: Yeah. So God could play. God could play. So that
- 43:29Speaker 3: right now the true corners. Mitchell's on our contract. There's
- 43:34Speaker 3: twenty seven. Jacquaran Bennett through twenty six. I can go
- 43:39Speaker 3: through twenty six. Mac McWilliams through twenty eight. It's a
- 43:44Speaker 3: corners of problem opposite Mitchell. I mean, it just it's
- 43:46Speaker 3: it's a significant problem right now. Jacquarine Bennett is the
- 43:49Speaker 3: one where it's to the point. I mean, he's not
- 43:52Speaker 3: a contract. You might as well bring him back. He
- 43:56Speaker 3: just didn't get the defense. He just didn't get it. Yeah,
- 44:00Speaker 3: he's on a contract. I mean, I can't imagine they're
- 44:02Speaker 3: gonna get anything. They would get anything for him in
- 44:03Speaker 3: a trade. There's talent with this guy.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Yeah, No, that's why I hope they give him a
- 44:07Speaker 1: whole off season that just to get it, you know,
- 44:09Speaker 1: because I could see him at very If you can
- 44:12Speaker 1: just get him to play.
- 44:12Speaker 2: At a Dory Jackson level, then you're all right.
- 44:15Speaker 3: I mean, he would hold it better because he's he
- 44:17Speaker 3: could run. He had some good tape with the Raiders
- 44:23Speaker 3: early in his career, and he was got a lot
- 44:25Speaker 3: of people liked in the draft come out of Maryland. Correct, Maryland.
- 44:28Speaker 2: I believe you're correct on that.
- 44:29Speaker 3: Yeah, So that's they got plenty of mac mcgwiams. He
- 44:32Speaker 3: just never contributed. There's the real belief with him is
- 44:37Speaker 3: he's really a nickel. That's really what he would want
- 44:39Speaker 3: him as built well for it, but kind of fell
- 44:43Speaker 3: behind a little bit. So they have a lot of
- 44:45Speaker 3: decisions to make. Obviously, Fangio and Joe Casper, the new
- 44:50Speaker 3: DB'ST coach who got promoted. I'm sure he's still coach safeties.
- 44:54Speaker 3: But they got to make a decision here and then
- 44:56Speaker 3: the Dory Doeory Jackson's up. As we talked about, Yeah,
- 45:01Speaker 3: they they really need to address this in the draft.
- 45:04Speaker 3: The corner position you can't get because again Ringo doesn't
- 45:08Speaker 3: factor in. Michael Carter's and Nickel Bennett did not do anything.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Who knows and they don't know what They're gonna make
- 45:16Speaker 3: a decision on Coop sooner rather than later where he's
- 45:18Speaker 3: gonna line up. If Coop's saying Nickel, they probably need
- 45:23Speaker 3: two corners, then.
- 45:24Speaker 5: Yeah, probably Yeah, you can sign one and draft one
- 45:28Speaker 5: for sure, somehow get to ye and then hope maybe,
- 45:31Speaker 5: and then you get lucky if Bennett really picks it
- 45:33Speaker 5: up in this second year, then then you're good.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Then you feel better about the situation. All right, good stuff.
- 45:39Speaker 2: We will continue real quick.
- 45:42Speaker 3: Do we talk about safety? We talk about safety.
- 45:44Speaker 1: I mean we talked yeah, you know that, we said
- 45:46Speaker 1: that Blanket Ship and Epps are are free agency.
- 45:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and mccoop is on a contract. Kid, that's another
- 45:50Speaker 3: It's crazy how many needs they have.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm really curious to see how the blanket Ship
- 45:56Speaker 1: market unfold.
- 45:58Speaker 2: What we talked about.
- 45:59Speaker 1: I think you we've discussed on this show or maybe others,
- 46:02Speaker 1: the Cam Krawll thing where you're a really good safety
- 46:05Speaker 1: here but you're undrafted or you're a Day three guy,
- 46:07Speaker 1: and that's always going to be the knock on you.
- 46:09Speaker 2: And if you don't have.
- 46:10Speaker 1: A ton of interceptions or forced fumbles, and you know,
- 46:13Speaker 1: because cral was a good player for Washington signed a
- 46:15Speaker 1: three year deal with Yeah, and.
- 46:18Speaker 3: Black Ship early his care head turnovers, but that's not.
- 46:21Speaker 2: The number he's not ed Reid.
- 46:24Speaker 3: No exactly. It's worth mentioning, but that's not how you
- 46:27Speaker 3: evaluate it. In college, you do want to see ball
- 46:31Speaker 3: production and from Scott Extemple, you want to see it.
- 46:33Speaker 3: That's part of your grade. But once you get the NFL,
- 46:35Speaker 3: it's about where you're lined up mental ours, leadership. There's
- 46:41Speaker 3: a lot. It's safety that doesn't get talked about enough.
- 46:44Speaker 2: I agree processing from that position.
- 46:46Speaker 3: There's so much and Blanket Ship is so good at
- 46:48Speaker 3: getting stuff lined up there. They love that. These coaches
- 46:51Speaker 3: love this guy. Yeah, so we'll see, we'll see what happens.
- 46:54Speaker 3: But he's another guy who change agencies. You can get
- 46:57Speaker 3: paid in season and that's where the is Coop could
- 47:01Speaker 3: be play safety too, Yes, he could play safety some
- 47:03Speaker 3: teams almost a safety, that's right, So that could play into.
- 47:06Speaker 2: It, all right, great stuff that is. That finishes off
- 47:10Speaker 2: our roster outlook. Now that's gonna change.
- 47:12Speaker 1: And we always do the we do the after free
- 47:14Speaker 1: agency one, we do the after the draft one.
- 47:16Speaker 2: It's always fun, all right, and we will.
- 47:18Speaker 1: Of course keep you all updated on the coordinator search
- 47:22Speaker 1: as it goes on.
- 47:23Speaker 2: That's gonna do it.
