- 0:00Speaker 1: At the Texas Trail Saloon, young Tom Vickers is making trouble,
- 0:04Speaker 1: and Marshal Matt Dillon has reason to worry about the
- 0:07Speaker 1: influence of Blades, Tom's older companion. When a stranger is
- 0:13Speaker 1: shot on the Vickers range and cattle are reported missing,
- 0:16Speaker 1: Dillon and Chester head out to investigate, mindful of the
- 0:20Speaker 1: respected rancher Dolph Vickers and what the inquiry may mean
- 0:24Speaker 1: for him. From CBS Radio, this is Gunsmoke, Bad Boy,
- 0:29Speaker 1: Episode 97. Originally broadcast February 27th, 1954, William Conrad stars
- 0:38Speaker 1: as Matt Dillon with Parley Bear, Howard McNair, and Georgia Ellis.
- 0:43Speaker 1: John Meston wrote the program, and Norman MacDonald directed. And now,
- 0:48Speaker 1: the original broadcast.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Around Dodge City and in the Territory on West, there's
- 1:02Speaker 2: just one way to handle the killers and the spoilers,
- 1:05Speaker 2: and that's with a U.S. Marshal and the smell of
- 1:08Speaker 2: gun smoke. Gunsmoke, starring William Conrad. The story of the
- 1:31Speaker 2: violence that moved west with young America.
- 1:33Speaker 3: The story of a man who moved with it. Matt Dillon,
- 1:37Speaker 3: United States Marshal.
- 2:04Speaker 4: I don't know what got into the boy, Mr.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Dillon.
- 2:07Speaker 4: When I come for you, he was offering to shoot
- 2:08Speaker 4: his initials into the mirror behind the bar.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Is he drunk, Chester?
- 2:12Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
- 2:13Speaker 4: But mostly it seems like he just plain wants to howl.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Well, he can howl all he likes as long as
- 2:17Speaker 3: he keeps his gun quiet.
- 2:19Speaker 5: Oh, there he goes.
- 2:21Speaker 4: I hope that's the mirror and not some man he's
- 2:23Speaker 4: shooting at.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Yeah, so do I. Old Dolph would hate to lose
- 2:26Speaker 3: that boy. All right, watch it now.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Look, he's laying on the floor, Mr.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Dillon.
- 2:35Speaker 4: He's been killed.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Look what he done to my mirror, Marshal.
- 2:41Speaker 3: You shoot him, Sam? No, I hit him with a
- 2:44Speaker 3: bung starter. He ain't dead.
- 2:46Speaker 1: But I'm about to have to shoot his friend here.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Go ahead and try it.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Maybe I will. Easy, Sam. All right, what's your name, mister?
- 2:53Speaker 5: My name's Blades.
- 2:54Speaker 4: I work for Tom.
- 2:56Speaker 3: You mean you work for his father, don't you?
- 2:57Speaker 4: Well, sure, the old man owns the ranch, but... Me
- 3:00Speaker 4: and Tom, we work together.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Pick up his gun before he comes too, Chester.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
- 3:07Speaker 3: All right, Blades. Tom's going to sleep it off in jail.
- 3:10Speaker 3: You want to be locked up with him or you're
- 3:11Speaker 3: going to go home quietly?
- 3:13Speaker 4: I ain't done nothing. It was that girl over there
- 3:15Speaker 4: got him started.
- 3:16Speaker 3: No, what girl?
- 3:17Speaker 4: That one sitting at the table in the red dress.
- 3:20Speaker 3: What, Kitty?
- 3:22Speaker 4: Yeah, that's her name. Wait till old Dolph hears you
- 3:25Speaker 4: threw his son in jail.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I'll tell him myself. Now you get out of here.
- 3:30Speaker 5: I'm going.
- 3:32Speaker 4: He's at the Dodge house right now, Marshal. I'd like
- 3:35Speaker 4: to hear.
- 3:36Speaker 5: You tell him.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Can you get Tom over to the jail, Chester?
- 3:38Speaker 4: Yes, sir, I sure can.
- 3:39Speaker 3: All right, lock him up. I'll be back later.
- 3:42Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
- 3:42Speaker 4: All right, come on now, Tom. You going to let
- 3:49Speaker 4: Chester put him to bed, Matt?
- 3:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Sam knocked all the fight out of him, Kitty.
- 3:56Speaker 5: I know. I saw it.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Blades said that... You made him mad.
- 4:02Speaker 6: That's one way of putting it.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Oh, what do you mean?
- 4:05Speaker 6: He made me mad. I don't like fresh kids, Matt.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Tom Vickers must be 20.
- 4:11Speaker 6: Well, he's been acting like a kid. You know, Matt,
- 4:14Speaker 6: he's changed lately. He used to be a gentleman like
- 4:17Speaker 6: his father. I don't know what's come over him, but
- 4:20Speaker 6: if he were mine, I wouldn't allow him.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Off the ranch.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Maybe you've just forgotten what it's like to be young, Kitty.
- 4:28Speaker 6: I'm young enough to pour this glass of beer over
- 4:30Speaker 6: your head.
- 4:33Speaker 3: You know what I mean. Sure. Well, that fellow Blades
- 4:37Speaker 3: is older, though. Maybe he's responsible for Tom's jump in
- 4:41Speaker 3: the fence.
- 4:42Speaker 6: I don't like him at all. I'm sure he isn't
- 4:44Speaker 6: a good influence on Tom.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Yeah, Tom's too easily led. Yeah, he isn't the man
- 4:50Speaker 3: his father is.
- 4:51Speaker 5: He sure isn't.
- 4:53Speaker 6: Anyways, he better leave me alone.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 3: I'll tell him to. Well, I've got to go see
- 5:01Speaker 3: Dolph now.
- 5:02Speaker 6: He isn't going to like your throwing his son in jail.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe not. But a stranger was shot and killed
- 5:08Speaker 3: on his range yesterday. And I don't like that.
- 5:11Speaker 5: Oh? I hadn't heard.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Well, they haven't been talking much about it.
- 5:15Speaker 6: Well, looks like you and Dolph are in for a
- 5:18Speaker 6: pleasant little talk.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, so long, Kitty.
- 5:22Speaker 5: Goodbye, Max. Well, come in, Marshal, come in. How are you, doll?
- 5:33Speaker 1: Fine, Marshal.
- 5:57Speaker 5: I've been sitting here smoking a cigar before I went
- 5:59Speaker 5: to bed. Have one?
- 6:01Speaker 3: No, no, no, thanks. Dolph, I got some bad news
- 6:07Speaker 3: for you.
- 6:09Speaker 5: Tell me.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Tom tried to shoot up the Texas Trail a while ago.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Sam laid him out. All right, now he's in jail.
- 6:19Speaker 5: Anybody hurt?
- 6:20Speaker 3: The boy's got a bump on his head, that's all.
- 6:24Speaker 5: I don't like the idea of Vickers being in jail.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I'm sorry, Dolph.
- 6:29Speaker 5: How do I get him out?
- 6:30Speaker 3: Well, I'll turn him loose in the morning.
- 6:34Speaker 5: No vicar is as ever in jail before, Marshal.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Well, it's not that important to me, Dolph. If you
- 6:39Speaker 3: want him out now, you can come and get him. No.
- 6:42Speaker 5: He's done wrong. He's got to pay for it. I
- 6:46Speaker 5: thank you for coming to tell me, Marshal.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Sure, Dolph, sure. But there's something else I want to
- 6:53Speaker 3: talk to you about.
- 6:54Speaker 5: What's that?
- 6:55Speaker 3: I heard that a man was shot and killed on
- 6:57Speaker 3: your range yesterday. It's true. Who did it?
- 7:02Speaker 5: He was wrestling cattle, Marshal.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Oh. Well, were you there?
- 7:08Speaker 5: No, but I've been losing a lot of stock lately.
- 7:10Speaker 5: That fella got caught by my men and put up
- 7:14Speaker 5: a fight. So, there's one less thief around.
- 7:18Speaker 3: You know who this man was?
- 7:20Speaker 5: Never saw him before. But there's nothing wrong with shooting thieves,
- 7:24Speaker 5: is there?
- 7:25Speaker 3: Not if I try to shoot you first.
- 7:27Speaker 5: I'm going to hire me some gunmen, Marshal. I'll show them... No, no,
- 7:32Speaker 5: that'll just cause trouble, Dolph.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Gunmen will shoot anybody that happens along and then claim
- 7:36Speaker 3: that they put up a fight. You know what they're like.
- 7:39Speaker 5: Then everybody better stay away.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Everybody won't know about it, Dolph. You don't want innocent
- 7:44Speaker 3: men killed, do you?
- 7:45Speaker 5: Of course I don't. But I don't want my cattle
- 7:48Speaker 5: stole either.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Dolph, uh... You mind if I ride back out to
- 7:53Speaker 3: your place with you tomorrow and have a look around?
- 7:55Speaker 5: I got business in Dodge tomorrow, but I'm going out
- 7:59Speaker 5: the day after.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Be glad to have you.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Oh, good.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Well, I'll meet you here then. Okay, Marshal. Oh, no.
- 8:30Speaker 4: There's some men branding cattle up ahead, doll.
- 8:33Speaker 5: That'll be Tom and Blades. They got a camp near here.
- 8:37Speaker 5: I put Tom in charge of this whole section.
- 8:39Speaker 3: They left Dodge yesterday morning early, doll.
- 8:42Speaker 5: I know. I saw them leave.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Oh, you did?
- 8:45Speaker 5: They didn't see me. I was sitting across the street.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Ah.
- 8:50Speaker 4: That's Tom, all right. Coming to meet us.
- 8:53Speaker 5: He shouldn't stop work just because we ride by. We'll
- 8:57Speaker 5: wait here. Who now? Who?
- 8:58Speaker 4: Who's what?
- 9:11Speaker 5: Hello.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Howdy, Tom.
- 9:13Speaker 5: Tom. What calves are those, Tom?
- 9:16Speaker 4: Oh, it's a bunch of men gathered day before yesterday, sir.
- 9:20Speaker 5: Where are the other men? How come just you and
- 9:22Speaker 5: Blades are working them?
- 9:24Speaker 4: Oh, we got all but about 20 of them branded yesterday.
- 9:27Speaker 5: I figured me and Blades could finish them alone. Two
- 9:30Speaker 5: men ain't enough with a bunch like that. You'd have
- 9:32Speaker 5: saved time if you'd kept more men to help. Let's
- 9:36Speaker 5: ride over there. I want to look at them. Why
- 9:39Speaker 5: don't you? Blades. Maybe I better stay and help you.
- 9:53Speaker 6: Oh, no, sir.
- 9:54Speaker 5: We're doing fine.
- 9:55Speaker 4: We'll be all through by evening.
- 9:56Speaker 5: Your herd's getting scattered now.
- 9:58Speaker 1: We'll handle them.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Sure.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Don't you worry none, Mr.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Vickers. I ain't worried none, Blades. Tom, next time you
- 10:06Speaker 5: keep at least three more men with you when you
- 10:08Speaker 5: got a bunch this size. No, sir, I'll do it.
- 10:12Speaker 5: In case you're wondering about the marshal here in Chester...
- 10:16Speaker 5: They're going to look things over for a day or so.
- 10:18Speaker 5: Marshal thinks maybe we can cut the trail of them
- 10:21Speaker 5: cattle thieves.
- 10:22Speaker 3: I sure hope so. We ain't had much luck, except
- 10:26Speaker 3: for that one.
- 10:27Speaker 5: Now, go on back to work. I'll ride out here
- 10:30Speaker 5: next week sometime.
- 10:31Speaker 2: All right.
- 10:32Speaker 5: Now, get that iron ready for another one, Blaze.
- 10:34Speaker 4: It's red hot now.
- 10:36Speaker 5: Come on, Marshal. I'm late enough.
- 10:38Speaker 3: It sure is a nice evening, Mr. Dillon, ain't it?
- 10:43Speaker 2: Don't you think so?
- 10:45Speaker 3: What? I was just wondering what kind of an evening
- 11:06Speaker 3: it is in Dodge, Chester.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Oh, if there was any real trouble, somebody would have
- 11:10Speaker 4: rode out and told you.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I suppose so. It's been two days now. Oh,
- 11:18Speaker 3: we'd better get back tomorrow.
- 11:19Speaker 4: That'll suit me fine. I swear we've rode a thousand
- 11:23Speaker 4: miles over this ranch, and all for nothing, as far
- 11:26Speaker 4: as I can tell.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe.
- 11:28Speaker 5: Why don't you come set in the porch, you two?
- 11:31Speaker 3: Oh, we're just walking our supper off a little bit, Dolph.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I've been in the saddle so much the last
- 11:36Speaker 4: few days, I need to stand.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Suit yourselves. Uh, Dolph, from what the men tell me,
- 11:43Speaker 3: you've lost only about a hundred head of calves altogether.
- 11:46Speaker 3: I had the impression that it was a lot more
- 11:49Speaker 3: than that.
- 11:50Speaker 5: I won't put up with one calf being stolen from me, Marshal.
- 11:55Speaker 5: I'm an honest man, and I work hard. And if
- 11:59Speaker 5: a neighbor or stranger needs help, I'll give it to
- 12:01Speaker 5: them gladly. But I'll kill the man that steals.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Well, I wish you'd do one thing for me, Dolph.
- 12:10Speaker 5: What's that?
- 12:11Speaker 3: The next time you lose any stock, send word to
- 12:13Speaker 3: me before you turn this outfit into an arm camp.
- 12:16Speaker 5: Well, Marshal, if it was anybody else, I'd tell him
- 12:21Speaker 5: to mind his own business.
- 12:24Speaker 3: But, um, I'll do it. Thank you, Dolph. Oh, by
- 12:30Speaker 3: the way, we're going to be riding back to Dodge tomorrow.
- 12:33Speaker 5: All right. But I won't give you more in a
- 12:35Speaker 5: couple of days next time.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Well, that's better than nothing, though.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Mr.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Dillon, we won't never get to Dodge if we stop
- 12:56Speaker 4: in Cali ever heard of cows we come across.
- 12:59Speaker 3: This is a bunch I wanted to see, Chester. We'll
- 13:01Speaker 3: travel as the crow flies from here in. Come on.
- 13:11Speaker 4: Why was you so interested in that herd? We must
- 13:14Speaker 4: have rode through it ten times.
- 13:16Speaker 3: I was sort of interested in proving something to myself, Chester.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Now look up ahead there.
- 13:26Speaker 4: Oh, a couple of dogs, man, I reckon.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Yeah, probably.
- 13:32Speaker 6: Or say.
- 13:33Speaker 4: It's Tom and that fellow Blades.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:42Speaker 5: Where's my old man, Marshal?
- 13:45Speaker 3: We left him at the ranch, Tom. We're going back
- 13:47Speaker 3: to Dutch.
- 13:49Speaker 5: Empty-handed, huh?
- 13:52Speaker 3: Not quite.
- 13:53Speaker 4: What do you mean, not quite?
- 13:55Speaker 3: Well, Blades, I'll tell you. I just looked over that
- 13:57Speaker 3: bunch of stock back there.
- 13:59Speaker 5: Sure. We gathered them yesterday.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Now we're gonna do a little branding.
- 14:04Speaker 3: You better. We'd better?
- 14:08Speaker 5: You ain't bossing us, Marshal.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Just get them branded, Tom.
- 14:11Speaker 5: All of them. Of course we'll get them branded.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Say that you do. Come on, Chester.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Yes, sir. I don't understand what you was driving at, Mr.
- 14:25Speaker 5: Dillon.
- 14:26Speaker 3: That's the same herd those two were working the day
- 14:28Speaker 3: we rode by here with Dolph, Chester. Say, now, I
- 14:32Speaker 3: didn't notice that. And you probably didn't notice about 20
- 14:35Speaker 3: calves in there that are still unbranded.
- 14:37Speaker 5: What do you mean?
- 14:39Speaker 3: Tom Vickers and his friend Blades are thieves, Chester. And
- 14:44Speaker 3: probably murderers to boot. The End.
- 15:10Speaker 5: Oh, Chester.
- 15:12Speaker 4: There you are, my boy.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Where's Matt?
- 15:14Speaker 4: Oh, he'll be back in a minute, Doc. Sit down.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Oh, don't mind me. Say, he told me about Dolph
- 15:22Speaker 3: Vickers' son last night.
- 15:24Speaker 4: The only thing I can't figure, Doc, is why he
- 15:26Speaker 4: don't tell Dolph.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Oh, he's got his reasons, I expect. I didn't come
- 15:30Speaker 3: here to gossip.
- 15:31Speaker 4: Do you know if he had supper yet? I had
- 15:34Speaker 4: early tonight.
- 15:36Speaker 3: But Mr.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Dillon will probably go with you.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Good evening, Doc. Ah, you look hungry. You look worried.
- 15:46Speaker 3: The golf vickers, boy?
- 15:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Now, sooner or later, I'm going to have to arrest him, Doc.
- 15:53Speaker 3: I've been trying to figure some way to do it
- 15:55Speaker 3: without breaking the old man's heart.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Well, I don't suppose there is any other way, Mac.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Well, if there is, I haven't thought of it.
- 16:03Speaker 4: Somebody out back.
- 16:04Speaker 3: No, stay where you are, Chester. I'll see who it is.
- 16:07Speaker 3: I'll be right with you, Doc.
- 16:08Speaker 5: Sure. Sure, Mac.
- 16:10Speaker 4: You're going to starve to death waiting for somebody to
- 16:12Speaker 4: eat with around here, Doc.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Oh, why, fasting's good for Manchester.
- 16:17Speaker 4: A little of it wouldn't hurt you.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Oh.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Seems to me I spent my entire youth fasting, Doc.
- 16:25Speaker 4: I won't never make up for it.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Uh-oh. What's that?
- 16:29Speaker 5: I don't know, but I better go see. Mr.
- 16:38Speaker 6: Dillon?
- 16:38Speaker 3: Get out, sir.
- 16:39Speaker 5: Mr. Dillon?
- 16:41Speaker 4: Somebody shooting at you?
- 16:42Speaker 3: Quiet. It's okay, Chester. They've gone.
- 16:54Speaker 5: Somebody was shooting at you. Yeah.
- 16:57Speaker 3: After they knocked on the door, they ran out behind
- 16:59Speaker 3: that far shed there. Bloody poor shooting.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Well, ain't we going after them?
- 17:03Speaker 3: They had horses hidden there. I heard them right off.
- 17:05Speaker 4: Well, I'll go buy a couple from the rail.
- 17:07Speaker 3: No. Now, let them go, Chester.
- 17:09Speaker 5: Mr.
- 17:09Speaker 4: Dillon, they tried to ambush you.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I know. But I'd prefer not to shoot them. Especially
- 17:14Speaker 3: Tom Vickers.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Tom.
- 17:16Speaker 3: We're right out to the ranch tomorrow, Chester. Maybe we
- 17:19Speaker 3: can bring them in without a fight. Anyway, it's worth
- 17:23Speaker 3: a try. For Dolph's sake. Dog. Anybody home?
- 17:59Speaker 4: Here comes somebody.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Hello, Marshall. Hello, Dolph.
- 18:07Speaker 5: Chester.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Hello, Dolph.
- 18:09Speaker 5: Good morning. Thank you. Where are you going, Tom? Ain't
- 18:16Speaker 5: you going to say hello? I got work to do.
- 18:19Speaker 5: What kind of manners is that?
- 18:21Speaker 3: There's no use running away, Tom. You wouldn't get far.
- 18:25Speaker 5: What?
- 18:26Speaker 3: Now come on back and sit down, huh?
- 18:31Speaker 5: You do a lot of ordering around, don't you, Marshal?
- 18:35Speaker 3: Sometimes I do. What's the matter between you anyway? Be
- 18:41Speaker 3: better if you told him, Tom.
- 18:42Speaker 5: I don't know what you're talking about.
- 18:45Speaker 3: All right. Did you brand those calves the other day?
- 18:50Speaker 3: What calves? Wait a minute, Tom. Did you, Tom? Of
- 18:52Speaker 3: course we did. You willing to ride out there with
- 18:56Speaker 3: us and prove it?
- 18:57Speaker 5: I ain't riding nowhere. I've had enough of this. You
- 19:00Speaker 5: tell me what you're talking about.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Tom?
- 19:06Speaker 5: Maybe you better tell me, Marshal.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Well, Dolph, you remember the herd Tom and Blades were
- 19:11Speaker 3: working the day we rode out here, will you? Of
- 19:14Speaker 3: course I do. Well, I saw that same herd on
- 19:17Speaker 3: the way back to Dodge. There were still about 20
- 19:20Speaker 3: unbranded calves in it.
- 19:22Speaker 5: Say it out, Marshal.
- 19:23Speaker 3: I ran into Tom and Blades just beyond, and I
- 19:26Speaker 3: told them to be sure and brand those calves. Go on.
- 19:31Speaker 3: So they knew I was on to them.
- 19:35Speaker 5: On to what?
- 19:37Speaker 3: Dolph, I'm willing to bet everything I got that if
- 19:39Speaker 3: we find that herd, those calves are either still unbranded
- 19:42Speaker 3: or missing.
- 19:43Speaker 5: What makes you so sure? Tom refuses to ride out
- 19:47Speaker 5: there with us. What you're saying is mighty serious, Marshal.
- 19:54Speaker 3: I hope you won't regret it.
- 19:58Speaker 5: Come on, Tom. We'll go see them calves.
- 20:01Speaker 6: No.
- 20:03Speaker 3: We're going out there, I said.
- 20:05Speaker 5: I ain't going.
- 20:09Speaker 3: You'll do what I tell you.
- 20:10Speaker 5: But not this time. We're going if I have to
- 20:16Speaker 5: knock you down and tie you onto your horse.
- 20:20Speaker 3: And you know I'll do it. Yeah, you would.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Them calves ain't there.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Then where are they?
- 20:37Speaker 5: Twenty calves ain't hard to track, Tom. Blades got them.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Got them where?
- 20:43Speaker 5: Up by Little Spring. You don't have to say it.
- 20:48Speaker 5: I know Little Spring ain't on this ranch.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Go on. There are three other men up there.
- 20:54Speaker 5: You don't know them. They're holding over a hundred head
- 20:57Speaker 5: by now.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Come on.
- 21:01Speaker 5: You gonna charge your own son for stealing from you?
- 21:04Speaker 3: Are you? Tom, you and Blades killed that stranger to
- 21:08Speaker 3: help you cover up all this, didn't you?
- 21:11Speaker 5: It's too bad we didn't kill you, Marshal.
- 21:14Speaker 3: What's that? They tried to ambush me in Dodge last night, Dolph.
- 21:19Speaker 5: My own son. A murderer and a thief. Tom, come
- 21:29Speaker 5: into the other room with me. You'll excuse us, gentlemen.
- 21:40Speaker 5: He's going to help him get away, Mr. Dillon.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Not if I know Dolph he isn't. I expect he
- 21:45Speaker 3: just wants to talk to him alone before we take
- 21:47Speaker 3: him to jail.
- 21:49Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
- 21:51Speaker 4: You know, I feel a whole lot sorrier for Dolph
- 21:54Speaker 4: than I do for the boy.
- 21:56Speaker 3: I guess you should. Mr. Dillon.
- 22:02Speaker 5: It's all right, Marshal.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Where's Tom?
- 22:14Speaker 5: I killed him.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Here's my gun, Marshal. I'm sorry you did it, Dolph.
- 22:25Speaker 5: I had to. Marshal, I'd like to bury him now.
- 22:33Speaker 3: We'll help you.
- 22:34Speaker 6: No.
- 22:37Speaker 5: I'll bury my own dead. Then I'll ride into jail
- 22:41Speaker 5: with you.
- 22:42Speaker 6: All right.
- 22:44Speaker 5: You'll get my calves back.
- 22:46Speaker 3: I'll pick up a posse when we get to Dodge.
- 22:50Speaker 5: The boy was my responsibility, Marshal.
- 22:53Speaker 3: You understand that. What you did was wrong, Dolph. You
- 23:01Speaker 3: can wait here in the cool of the house.
- 23:05Speaker 5: I'll be back.
- 23:09Speaker 3: We're waiting.
