Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Here we go, Here we go, Here we go. We're
- 0:02Speaker 1: off to the World Cup twenty twenty six. We won
- 0:04Speaker 1: three mil over New Caledonia. And of course the man
- 0:07Speaker 1: making the call for the Telly and also works here
- 0:10Speaker 1: on Newstaloks there be as Jason Pine. Congratulations, Jason. I
- 0:13Speaker 1: thought you played very well.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Look, I'm not sure I had any direct influence on
- 0:20Speaker 2: the game, Andrew, but it's lovely to be here with you.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Tough first half. The New Caledonians were well organized.
- 0:26Speaker 2: They certainly were. Yeah, they came out and made it
- 0:28Speaker 2: very difficult for New Zealand in the first half. And look,
- 0:32Speaker 2: I think a lot of people turned up there last
- 0:33Speaker 2: night and tuned in thinking this is going to be
- 0:36Speaker 2: fairly straightforward, and it didn't take long for those illusions
- 0:40Speaker 2: to be dispelled. I thought New Caledonia were well worth
- 0:43Speaker 2: it and played really well on the first half. Frustrated
- 0:45Speaker 2: New Zealand. You know, any chances they had were repelled
- 0:49Speaker 2: by their excellent goalkeeper Rocky McCaine. And at half time
- 0:52Speaker 2: when they wandered off or New Zealand wanted off, it
- 0:55Speaker 2: was with frustration New Caledonia almost celebrating at half time
- 0:59Speaker 2: the fact that it was still all but in New
- 1:01Speaker 2: Zealand grow into the game in the second half and
- 1:03Speaker 2: did what had to be done. Well.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Of course, we lost Chris Woods, and we worry about it,
- 1:06Speaker 1: but that's that's the thing for Nottingham Forest to worry about.
- 1:09Speaker 1: But here's the thing what I liked about it. In
- 1:11Speaker 1: the second half. We changed stuff a bit. We brought
- 1:12Speaker 1: in Francis Devrez. We've got a whole lot more direct
- 1:15Speaker 1: and suddenly so we changed and we got around the
- 1:18Speaker 1: blanket defense. And that's a good sign for a good team.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Oh look absolutely, yeah. You can't just have one plan,
- 1:24Speaker 2: can you. And Plan A was Chris Wood obviously, and
- 1:27Speaker 2: that you know, for the first time in a long
- 1:29Speaker 2: time didn't work and as you say, he went off injured,
- 1:32Speaker 2: so they changed it up. Francis of Reese, as you say,
- 1:35Speaker 2: came on cost of Barbarusis, I think, made an excellent
- 1:37Speaker 2: impact off the bench, and e Lie just you know,
- 1:40Speaker 2: Barbarusis and just both on the score sheet. So yeah,
- 1:43Speaker 2: they It is the sign of a good team that
- 1:46Speaker 2: if things aren't going the way you would hope that
- 1:49Speaker 2: they would, that you you know, that you try something
- 1:51Speaker 2: else and you get success that way. And that's what
- 1:53Speaker 2: happened last night.
- 1:54Speaker 1: So we're off to the Big Gang, but this for
- 1:57Speaker 1: the third time ever, but this time with this opposed
- 2:00Speaker 1: golden generation of players. Should we hope that they get
- 2:03Speaker 1: to the knockout stage?
- 2:05Speaker 2: Well, absolutely, I think that'll be the aim. There's no
- 2:07Speaker 2: way that this team will want to go just to participate.
- 2:10Speaker 2: That that has to now be the base level that
- 2:12Speaker 2: when we get to the World Cup next year, it's
- 2:14Speaker 2: not just to make up the numbers. It's not just
- 2:16Speaker 2: to play three games and then pack the bags and
- 2:18Speaker 2: head home. It's that they have realistic ambitions of getting
- 2:22Speaker 2: out of their group and into the knockout stages. It
- 2:24Speaker 2: is a very good All Whites team, you know, notwithstanding
- 2:27Speaker 2: the fact they couldn't break down New Caledonia for large
- 2:30Speaker 2: periods of last night. This is as good in All
- 2:32Speaker 2: Whites team as I've seen. And look, they will be
- 2:37Speaker 2: off to the Big Dance next year with the full
- 2:40Speaker 2: intention of getting out of their group.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And something's changed about football in a shocking development. My
- 2:45Speaker 1: partner chose to watch the game instead of wait loads
- 2:47Speaker 1: this last night. It'll be interesting to see the ratings,
- 2:52Speaker 1: but obviously you know football's on the rise.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Well of those. Yeah, free to wear last night, which
- 2:57Speaker 2: helps obviously, but no, well, when people like your partner
- 3:00Speaker 2: are choosing, are choosing football over over her regular viewing
- 3:05Speaker 2: habits and look good crowd there last night from Monday
- 3:08Speaker 2: night over twenty five thousand Auckland FC. You and I
- 3:11Speaker 2: have talked about that a lot in the past as well,
- 3:13Speaker 2: and the Phoenix have been around for some time now,
- 3:15Speaker 2: good players all around the world. It will only get
- 3:18Speaker 2: bigger when we go to the World Cup next year.
- 3:20Speaker 2: So yeah, pretty healthy time for the round ball code
- 3:22Speaker 2: in our country.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Pack your bags, Jason, looks like you're going to America.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Are we certainly pitching to the bosses Andrew to get
- 3:29Speaker 2: your support.
- 3:30Speaker 1: That'll be helpful, No problem, No problem. I'll carry your
- 3:32Speaker 1: bags for you, Jason Paint.
- 3:34Speaker 2: For more from early edition with Ryan Bridge. Listen live
- 3:37Speaker 2: to News Talks it'd be from five am weekdays, or
