Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So my name is Eddie. I sing him play violin
- 0:03Speaker 1: in the Swedish metal cor band called Imminence, and we're
- 0:06Speaker 1: heading down to Australia for the first time ever to
- 0:09Speaker 1: play Good Things Festival. We're super excited about it.
- 0:12Speaker 2: It am Menie.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us, brother, thank you for having me.
- 0:17Speaker 3: No, as you mentioned, Eminence will make your way to
- 0:20Speaker 3: Australia for the first time ever in December to play
- 0:22Speaker 3: a Good Things Festival in Melbourne on December sixth, Sydney
- 0:25Speaker 3: on the seventh, and Brintain on the eighth.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Mate, like, well, I've been neglectless for so long. This
- 0:30Speaker 2: is your first trip.
- 0:32Speaker 4: You know.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It's always about getting that formal limitation you're waiting for, right.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Yeah, true, true, true.
- 0:38Speaker 4: You've got to be invited before you're supposed to be invited,
- 0:41Speaker 4: before you go something. Good Things also features corn Some
- 0:47Speaker 4: forty one, Electric Corboy, Mastadon, Kerry King Hates more Man.
- 0:51Speaker 2: So is there any bands on that bill that you
- 0:53Speaker 2: haven't played with before?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Probably played with every single one of them. On festivals.
- 1:02Speaker 1: We have a lot of festivals of here in Europe.
- 1:04Speaker 1: We're a bit spoiled that way, So you've got to
- 1:06Speaker 1: see a lot of great bands that we're here.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Yeah's true, And.
- 1:11Speaker 3: There's going to be a huge on for you guys
- 1:13Speaker 3: to be invited to a festival like this without actually
- 1:16Speaker 3: playing in Australia before and then like you know what,
- 1:18Speaker 3: people came for you, So it's massive honor.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely absolutely.
- 1:25Speaker 3: And so being your first time coming to a new country, mate, like,
- 1:29Speaker 3: do you talk to other bands and ask them what
- 1:31Speaker 3: to expect or would you rather come in cold and
- 1:33Speaker 3: just sort of see how things happen.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I think we're coming cold. I mean, we already have
- 1:41Speaker 1: some people down there that we're friends with or through
- 1:45Speaker 1: the internet, so it's gonna be great to finally see them.
- 1:48Speaker 1: And I think that we should just go in there
- 1:51Speaker 1: with an open mind and see how it's.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Like, yeah's true. What are you actually expecting from Australian crowds?
- 1:59Speaker 3: Like you expect it to be rowdy, expecting us to
- 2:01Speaker 3: be tom sort of things going on?
- 2:05Speaker 1: I didn't know. You never know. When we were in
- 2:09Speaker 1: the States this year, it could be so different from
- 2:13Speaker 1: night to night as well, So like some some cities
- 2:16Speaker 1: we had really rowdy crowds and in some cities it
- 2:19Speaker 1: was more like people just standing there and experiencing the music,
- 2:24Speaker 1: so we we're not expecting or hoping that a crowd
- 2:31Speaker 1: goes a certain way.
- 2:36Speaker 3: As far as the flip side of that, BRO is
- 2:38Speaker 3: that Isralian audience is tarted, not what to expect from
- 2:40Speaker 3: Ego as honors so run a strough a typical eminence
- 2:43Speaker 3: love ship.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Wow, good question. I think that we have come to
- 2:52Speaker 1: a point as a band where we like to have
- 2:56Speaker 1: quite a diverse live show. And it's not just about
- 3:01Speaker 1: creating much pits or having the most wild show. It's about,
- 3:08Speaker 1: you know, what we are as a band and the
- 3:10Speaker 1: diversity of our music and presenting that on the stage.
- 3:16Speaker 2: So people.
- 3:18Speaker 3: The thing with festivals, BRO, is like there's so many
- 3:20Speaker 3: bands on there that people haven't seen before and having experience,
- 3:23Speaker 3: which is a great thing, but the people are not
- 3:25Speaker 3: familiar with imminent scound of good things.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Give us three songs of yours that they should listen
- 3:28Speaker 2: to you get to know the band.
- 3:32Speaker 1: A very good song. I think it's the Black from
- 3:37Speaker 1: our latest album, the title track. I would say I'm
- 3:44Speaker 1: gonna pick from different albums. Then I'm gonna say Infectious
- 3:49Speaker 1: from Turn the Light On and Temptation from Heaven and
- 3:52Speaker 1: Hiding you can get a pretty good picture of Eminence
- 3:56Speaker 1: with those songs.
- 3:57Speaker 2: So we got back in history a little bit bro
- 4:00Speaker 2: like imin.
- 4:01Speaker 3: It started with yourself and guitarist Harold Woice or something
- 4:03Speaker 3: in high school, man, So how similar was your music
- 4:06Speaker 3: back then to how it's become now?
- 4:11Speaker 1: Yeah, we started out like the first idea of Eminence
- 4:14Speaker 1: was that we wanted to play melodic death metal. We
- 4:18Speaker 1: were huge in Flames fans. We basically wanted to have
- 4:22Speaker 1: a band that sounded like in Flames. We ended up
- 4:25Speaker 1: going a little bit of a different way. But it's actually,
- 4:31Speaker 1: you know, since we released our debut album ten years ago,
- 4:34Speaker 1: I feel like we've kind of gone a little bit
- 4:37Speaker 1: full circle. As this latest album, The Black, it's probably
- 4:42Speaker 1: the closest one musically to that first album, and we've
- 4:45Speaker 1: been on quite a journey in between.
- 4:47Speaker 5: There right cool back then, man, like well, other teams
- 4:54Speaker 5: are out chasing girls and getting drunk, like you guys
- 4:56Speaker 5: both knuckle down and focused on making music in Korea.
- 4:59Speaker 2: So what sorts of things did you do actually make
- 5:01Speaker 2: that happen?
- 5:05Speaker 1: It was always about reaching for the next goal, no
- 5:10Speaker 1: matter how small that was. And you know, when we
- 5:14Speaker 1: started the band, the first goal was to get on
- 5:18Speaker 1: a stage, any stage, play a show, and now we
- 5:21Speaker 1: did that. We next goal was to go into the
- 5:24Speaker 1: studio record some songs, and as the time grew, we
- 5:30Speaker 1: set higher and higher goals, but still you know, achievable
- 5:35Speaker 1: goals that we could maybe could do in a year's
- 5:39Speaker 1: time or something like that. And that's always been our
- 5:42Speaker 1: philosophy and approach to do the music. It's just like,
- 5:46Speaker 1: how do we how do we get from this point
- 5:49Speaker 1: and just take the next step.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Your music itself like it blends the rightiousness of Scandinavian
- 5:56Speaker 3: metal with classic string elements, right, so what did that?
- 6:00Speaker 3: Where do you come from? It's sort up the type
- 6:01Speaker 3: of thing that that everyone does.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I started playing violin when I was five years old,
- 6:09Speaker 1: and it was always there, you know, with me, But
- 6:14Speaker 1: at first it wasn't like something that we really incorporated
- 6:18Speaker 1: that much. On our first album, we had string arrangements
- 6:23Speaker 1: on the songs and some of the songs, and actually
- 6:28Speaker 1: on the second album we kind of let that go.
- 6:31Speaker 1: And it wasn't until our third album where we experimented
- 6:36Speaker 1: a little bit with bringing in the violins as a
- 6:39Speaker 1: lead instrument apart from my vocals. It was something that
- 6:45Speaker 1: we really felt clicked and connected and the the From
- 6:49Speaker 1: that point we've just been been doing that.
- 6:54Speaker 3: How hard is it to combine the violin with the
- 6:58Speaker 3: metal elements?
- 6:58Speaker 2: I guess to make them work so well together? Is
- 7:01Speaker 2: it a difficult process?
- 7:04Speaker 1: I wouldn't say too difficult. I mean violin in metal
- 7:08Speaker 1: is it's kind of like it's a really good marriage,
- 7:12Speaker 1: I would say. And it's been there for a long
- 7:16Speaker 1: time with other bands as well. It's I think it's
- 7:19Speaker 1: just that it's not so common in this scene and
- 7:23Speaker 1: the and the style of music that we're playing that
- 7:27Speaker 1: you have someone actually doing that live. I think that's
- 7:29Speaker 1: more with you know, symphonic bands or folk metal bands,
- 7:34Speaker 1: things like that. Has has always brought that to the stage,
- 7:37Speaker 1: you know, but it's not so common with modern bands.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Yeah, And in the in the writing and development process,
- 7:44Speaker 3: I guess, like how do you how do you engage
- 7:46Speaker 3: and maybe we've gone too far with one song.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Or not far enough with another.
- 7:52Speaker 1: In which way, like with the violin, like.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Like can you listen to a song and say like
- 7:56Speaker 2: there's too much violin in there for metal or that
- 7:58Speaker 2: needs more? Like how do you sort of how do
- 8:00Speaker 2: you work that out?
- 8:02Speaker 1: We always we always write the song for the song itself,
- 8:08Speaker 1: if that makes sense. So I'm not afraid to pull
- 8:12Speaker 1: back on the violin. I don't want it to have
- 8:16Speaker 1: to be in there. It should always be in the
- 8:18Speaker 1: best interest of the song and what the song needs.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Yeah, very cool.
- 8:24Speaker 3: We'll started a new thing up that I'm just showing
- 8:26Speaker 3: bands the fight over there that I grabbed off. Well,
- 8:29Speaker 3: I'm from the Internet. I'm just gonna ask you to
- 8:31Speaker 3: explain the story behind it. So is it okay if
- 8:33Speaker 3: I show yours? What is it?
- 8:37Speaker 2: Just a fighter that I pulled off the Internet from
- 8:39Speaker 2: you guys?
- 8:39Speaker 3: Okay, so I've got this one.
- 8:44Speaker 2: What was actually going on there?
- 8:47Speaker 1: Like?
- 8:47Speaker 2: Were they trying to hand you something or they trying
- 8:48Speaker 2: to give you a high five?
- 8:51Speaker 1: I think that that is more of a high five. Yeah,
- 8:54Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure I know which venue that is leaving. Yeah,
- 9:01Speaker 1: I think it's Viper Room in Vienna. If I'm not mistaken.
- 9:06Speaker 1: This should be on our tour in twenty sixteen, I believe,
- 9:15Speaker 1: if not fifteen or sixteen. But yeah, it's it's definitely
- 9:22Speaker 1: a throwback.
- 9:25Speaker 3: If you ever had any bad experience when someone reaches
- 9:27Speaker 3: out to you about that, like you haven't had any
- 9:29Speaker 3: bad experience with like grabby and trying.
- 9:30Speaker 2: To pull you in or No.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I never really felt that. Actually, we've been touring for
- 9:37Speaker 1: a long time, but I never felt like we had
- 9:42Speaker 1: those type of fans. I feel like there's a lot
- 9:45Speaker 1: of respect from our fans and from us to them
- 9:49Speaker 1: as well that I never really experienced something bad in
- 9:55Speaker 1: that way.
