- 0:07OK, welcome back to another edition of Justin Time podcast.
- 0:10I'm your host. Justin.
- 0:12This is going to be a solo episode.
- 0:14I'm going to do a quick rundown on latex.
- 0:18It's kind of strange to me that we end up with latex in Week 2
- 0:22after a cleansing game again. But you know, Tech has that big
- 0:28move to the Sunbelt Conference taking effect on July 1st.
- 0:31That'll be a huge transition to them.
- 0:32They have two tough Rd. games back-to-back at LSU and going to
- 0:38Waco and playing at Baylor. But the Baylor game for them is
- 0:42one of I think 3 on their schedule that is not in the
- 0:46state of Louisiana. So that's pretty huge for them.
- 0:49Let's see. Oh, they go to Georgia to play
- 0:51it at Georgia Southern at the last game.
- 0:54But you know, SO1234 games out of 12 are out of state and
- 1:01really not that out of state because they go to Mobile and
- 1:05Troy for the two of those. And I don't think Texas, I don't
- 1:10think Waco is that far out of Louisiana.
- 1:12So really they only have three real games outside of the state
- 1:16of Louisiana, which should help them.
- 1:18You know, I don't know how far their fans travel.
- 1:22I really don't know much about them, but Sonny Cumbie has is
- 1:26their head coach. He's entering his fifth season
- 1:30and you know, he's brought stability to the program, which
- 1:32is good. Transferring to a new conference
- 1:35based on all new set of teams is difficult in and of itself, but
- 1:39when you got an experienced guy at the helm who's brought
- 1:42stability to him, that can help a lot.
- 1:45You know, don't really have much.
- 1:47Let's see, let's look at players.
- 1:49Look, if it looks like I am looking down at the screen, it
- 1:54is because I am. I don't really know much about
- 1:56Louisiana Tech to say much about them.
- 2:01You know, let's look up starters, starting lineup.
- 2:05Here we go. This should help their return.
- 2:07They are returning a mix of returning upperclassmen and key
- 2:10transfers. You know, so we have their
- 2:13offense. We have quarterback Jackson
- 2:16Bradley and Ethan Bullock, running back Sergio Snyder and
- 2:19Jaden Miller, wide receiver Devin Gandy, Dane Bennett,
- 2:24Bendix, Jalen Mickens and tight end Eli Finley.
- 2:29You know, sounds like they've got a bunch of guys that are
- 2:33good coming in. They had online projection
- 2:38Andrew Richards, Ashanti Koh Auric, Aubach Adcock and Austin
- 2:46Ellis to round out their offense.
- 2:47Projected starting run lineup, defense.
- 2:50They have Caleb Sims, Zion Nason and Jacob Bradford.
- 2:56Emmanuel Ogens, Judge. Again, I'm apologizing.
- 2:59My Butcher's last name is Rio. Linebacker Javon Mayfield, Kobe
- 3:03Fields and Cipoletto. Cornerbacks Johnson, safety
- 3:09Michael Richard and Jacob Fields.
- 3:12You know, so we got a lot, it seems like they got a lot of
- 3:15good returners. You know, they'll give LSU small
- 3:21fits because it's I didn't look, this is solely speculated
- 3:26because I don't know how Lane Kiffin, Elaine Kiffin coach team
- 3:31stacks up. I'm used to a Brian Kelly coach
- 3:33team. Most of the time when we have
- 3:35Brian Kelly coach team, they don't.
- 3:38We have a lot of, we struggle a lot with Interstate schools
- 3:41because those kids are coming to LSU playing the big college, the
- 3:46big state school in the state of Louisiana.
- 3:50They're more hyped up, pumped up then LSU typically is playing
- 3:54these lesser opponents, you know, but like I said, that was
- 3:58Brian Kelly, this is Lane Kiffin coming in to do this.
- 4:02We're looking at 2 totally different coaching styles, 2
- 4:06totally different coaches, you know, so it'll be a wild ride,
- 4:11but you know, going into the Sunbelt conference that's
- 4:14totally different set up, you know, lucky.
- 4:16Luckily for them, like I said though, they their schedule is
- 4:21like the Gemini posted, like Gemini put in it.
- 4:24The breakdown is very geographically compact.
- 4:29They don't have to go too far, do a lot of traveling to play in
- 4:33the Sunbelt. They mainly are focused in the
- 4:36state of Louisiana, with a couple of teams in Alabama and
- 4:40one in Georgia Southern going to Georgia.
- 4:42I think the addition of playing LSU and Baylor at the top of
- 4:45their schedule, I think that'll set them up good.
- 4:49You know, and from what I remember of Louisiana Tech,
- 4:51they've always been a competitive team.
- 4:54I mean, if you look at last year's numbers against us, sure,
- 4:58we won 23 to 7, but halftime was 10 to nothing.
- 5:04You know, the game could have gotten gone in their favor
- 5:07numerous times. You know, and I think if you
- 5:10look at the play by play, LSU didn't score a touchdown from
- 5:15they scored a touchdown in the first part of the first quarter.
- 5:21They didn't score another touchdown to the third quarter,
- 5:23and then they didn't score another touchdown the whole rest
- 5:25of the game. You know, they played defense,
- 5:27solid defense against us. And if that they do that, we
- 5:30only got 365 yards against them. Luckily for us, our defense was
- 5:37stacked and we only gave up 154 yards.
- 5:42But they averaged us to 4 yard, about 5 yards per play, which is
- 5:49pretty good. You know, we only scored two
- 5:51touchdowns. So we got 14 points up
- 5:53touchdowns. The other nine came off with
- 5:55field goals. That says a lot.
- 5:58Will it be this not going to be the same this year?
- 6:00Because it's like I said, it's two different teams, a way
- 6:04better coaching staff coming back.
- 6:06We'll have our stack defense at LSU like we did and we'll have a
- 6:10totally different offense with a better offense scheme.
- 6:14It'll be two different totally different games.
- 6:16But just looking at years past and if we do shoot attack ball
- 6:22series, football history, here we go.
- 6:24You know LSU has a 20 and one record of all time series.
- 6:31You know the last couple meetings in 2018 was before
- 6:3620/25/2018 was our last 138 to 21.
- 6:41Then the year before that it I mean that nine years before
- 6:46that. So you can see there's a trend
- 6:48about 9-10 years in between these games.
- 6:52Another hard part win for LSU where it was 24 to 16.
- 6:59Then we had a massive 1 in 7 where we .58 to 10.
- 7:04But you know, for the most part these games have been close, you
- 7:09know, 38 to 2124 to 10. There's not many double digit
- 7:15wins in this thing for LSU. We just get went.
- 7:19We just get, we do enough to win.
- 7:22You know, it's always like that with text seems like.
- 7:25And it's to me that's good. At least you have one
- 7:30competitive in state rivalry with football.
- 7:34You don't really see that that much, you know, but they have a
- 7:39new offensive coordinator who was at, let's see what he was at
- 7:42last year. He was at Tech.
- 7:44He was the offensive line coach at Tech.
- 7:47And now he's bumping up to athletic direct.
- 7:49I mean, athletic director. That would be a huge promotion.
- 7:53But he's the offensive coordinator now, you know, So
- 7:55he's been with the team just now he's moving into a better
- 8:01position, you know, then defensive coordinator Luke
- 8:06Olson, he's returning for his second year.
- 8:09You know, he build upon the defensive foundation he late
- 8:12last year. That's good for them, you know.
- 8:15But like I said, they have a tough road ahead of them.
- 8:19Jumping into a new conference is totally different, but at least
- 8:22they're at home the majority of it.
- 8:24And like I said, looking at the series history with LSU, it
- 8:27should be a competitive game. Not saying it'll be a good game,
- 8:30but it'll be a competitive game. The last times, last couple of
- 8:34times we've played them, it's been a good competitive game.
- 8:37Should be a fun one regardless of who you're pulling for.
- 8:41But that'll do it for me. Look forward to seeing y'all
- 8:45come back next week and do it all again.
- 8:48Remember, have a great day, a great night, whatever you have,
- 8:50just make it a great one and that'll do it for me.
