- 0:02A listener production.
- 0:06Welcome to the Motorsport Brief.
- 0:07It is Friday, the 31st of May, 2024.
- 0:10The season-ending Adelaide 500 launch was held in the past 48 hours.
- 0:15And in keeping with the history of cool off-track acts, this year we're going to be treated to a symphony of sprint cars.
- 0:26G'day everybody, Rusty here.
- 0:27Welcome to another ep of the Garage Shortcast.
- 0:29Standing by is Craig Lowndes, who was at Wednesday's event launch, and Toby Balboan from Sprint Car Hub, that has fast become a go-to platform, or platforms really, for the latest Speedway news in Australia.
- 0:42Quick plug, our newest feature episode dropped yesterday with two-time Australian rally champion Rob Herridge.
- 0:48From thinking he was world champion material, the way that he attacked his first ever transport stage, to the ties with Subaru that stand to this day through the family business, Maximum Motorsport.
- 1:00From a brutal lesson his uncle taught him around the psychology of winning...
- 1:04to becoming a pretend engineer.
- 1:06Working as a young bloke on the family farm taught him resourceful engineering skills.
- 1:11And while he doesn't have a formal ticket, the craftsmanship and precision is something to really admire.
- 1:16Plus, his second Australian title before he even received the first.
- 1:21That'll make sense when you listen to the pod.
- 1:23Keep an eye out, an ear out for notifications on that one.
- 1:26One of the best events on the Supercars calendar clicked up a gear on Wednesday with news that the Velo Adelaide 500 would feature sprint cars among an awesome array of support acts.
- 1:40All right there, trackside this November.
- 1:43They have always had a reputation for quality entertainment to complement the main act.
- 1:48The final round of Supercars to join us or joining us to talk about it, I should say, is none other than Craig Lowndes.
- 1:55Hello, mate.
- 1:55Welcome back to the pod.
- 1:58Hi Rusty, it's great to be back It's good to see you again Hey, 25 years you and I are showing our grey hairs I can remember the first one You can too, can't you?
- 2:06Yes, and it was actually When we did the launch Jess Yates did the emceeing And she was very graceful and called me very young Craig Lowndes, so I was very thankful for that
- 2:17This has a bit of a triple challenge feel like we used to see at Sydney Motorsport Park.
- 2:23There is Australian Supercross and sprint cars.
- 2:26How good.
- 2:27They're going to create a temporary venue to have sprint car racing there within the track precinct too.
- 2:35It's amazing to actually hear what they're attempting to do.
- 2:40They've got to bring in so much soil for both elements, and that's where it's going to be crazy.
- 2:45We think that it's obviously getting our transporters into place and lining them up and everything else is so important, but to actually create these two...
- 2:53stadiums is really going to be very interesting.
- 2:56And I spoke to a couple of the motocross guys in the launch or at the launch, and they were saying that the area they've got actually was bigger than they thought they'd have.
- 3:04So they're going to have a full-length stadium motocross track.
- 3:08And they said it's blown them away.
- 3:09Okay.
- 3:10Awesome.
- 3:10I can't remember.
- 3:11My memory doesn't serve me well enough here.
- 3:13Have you driven a sprint car, and will you, if called upon for promotional purposes?
- 3:19I've driven one around Arcterfield when it was operating, I almost have to say, 25 years ago.
- 3:24But it's an interesting thing because it somewhat frightened me some way because you're sitting on the diff.
- 3:30It's like a bus wheel.
- 3:31It's just flat.
- 3:33You've got about 780 horsepower, and the thing only weighs about 400 kilos.
- 3:37So it's...
- 3:38It's an art form in itself to get it sideways, to get the rear wing to move and slide it back and forth to get to obviously the balance you want.
- 3:45So for me, it's like a whole new world like anything else.
- 3:48But if they asked me to get up and have a display of something, I could probably do that.
- 3:53It's a race one.
- 3:54I've spoken to Cam Waters.
- 3:56He loves it.
- 3:57Like he loves getting involved in all that down at Warrnambool and everywhere else.
- 4:00He was just, you know, he talks so highly of the sprint cars.
- 4:03Another one that loves it too is the running supercars champion in Brodie Kosticki.
- 4:08I would imagine, Craig, and this is probably to be decided in the months ahead, but we'll, I hope, get some sort of crossover here, won't we?
- 4:16Oh, absolutely.
- 4:16And I think that one of the questions that got asked me, would Cam actually race one over one of the nights?
- 4:21And I said, my response was, depending on how he's going in the championship, he might just ditch the championship and go sprint car racing.
- 4:27But in all seriousness, I think it's great when you get...
- 4:31Drivers that are so diverse and you go from bitumen to dirt to go to a circuit race to an oval race.
- 4:38So for me, it just embraces all your sort of experiences and your learnings.
- 4:44And for Cam and Brodie, they definitely do that.
- 4:47We're talking about the off-track stuff at the moment.
- 4:49I mean, the on-track will be enormous too from what's typically been the title decider for supercars, an unbelievable array of other on-track acts, if you will.
- 4:59And that also now includes the return of Stadium Supertrucks.
- 5:02Yeah, absolutely.
- 5:03They're one of the crowd favourites.
- 5:05When you think about jumping a truck probably almost a store and a half high, and they go about 40, probably 30, 40 metres in length because they're hitting the ramps in third gear quite quickly.
- 5:16It's really exciting.
- 5:17We used to all go out of the garage or come out of the garages and go to the pit wall like everyone else did to watch these trucks jump.
- 5:24And again, it's just, it's crazy.
- 5:27Like it's really, I think what the Velo Adelaide 500 has been able to do is capture something very different again.
- 5:34And we've missed the jump trucks.
- 5:36The stadium trucks are definitely going to bring another element to it.
- 5:39Plus, you know, sprint cars and you've got motocross.
- 5:42You've got everything going on with all that.
- 5:45And as you mentioned, Rusty, like even on track for us in the supercar world,
- 5:48At the moment, the championships, it really had a bit of a turn because Red Bull were sort of dominating the first half of the season.
- 5:55Now Ford are creeping back, which is fantastic to see.
- 5:59So I think it's only going to spice it up.
- 6:00Don't worry about calling them the jump trucks either because lots of the kids do that, mate.
- 6:04They get spellbound by them, I know.
- 6:06On the music front, they've always had great music over the years.
- 6:09Are you Crowded House or Cold Chisel?
- 6:11Come on, what's Craig Lowndes?
- 6:12Well, I'm probably more cold shizzle, but I do listen to both of them.
- 6:16So I might even end up going to both of them over the weekend.
- 6:20I reckon it won't take much arm twisting.
- 6:21Let's talk test day for Triple Eight and the wild card.
- 6:24You were really enthused by that.
- 6:26That was earlier in the week as well.
- 6:27How'd that go?
- 6:29Yeah, really good.
- 6:29I think it was the first time that I've actually had a chance to really listen to Cooper Murray's feedback and how he really thinks about the car and what he wants from the car.
- 6:38So really, it was a great day.
- 6:40I probably, to be honest, only got about probably 12, 15 laps.
- 6:44The whole focus was to get Cooper up to speed for Darwin.
- 6:48That was the whole focus.
- 6:49The same as what we did last year with Zane.
- 6:51And for Cooper to work with, to Wes McDougall, the new engineer, to do actually pit stop practice.
- 6:59So in Super 2, they don't do it in racing.
- 7:01But for Darwin, he's going to have to learn how to get in the approach, attack pit lane, stop on the marks, wait for it.
- 7:07When the car drops to accelerate away.
- 7:10Did a couple of starts over the course of the day.
- 7:12So just a lot for him to take in and absorb.
- 7:14Yeah.
- 7:15But he really did a great job and I was really impressed with him.
- 7:18He was very methodical about the way he talks about the car.
- 7:22He starts with obviously the braking and the stability and the entry.
- 7:26He really breaks the corners up really nicely and it's really easy to understand what he's wanting and...
- 7:31or trying to achieve from the car.
- 7:33And so for Wes, it was really good also because he really just changed a number of things in the car, not to chase what the balance was needing, but just to give Cooper a feel of what things were doing to the car.
- 7:45So at the end of the day, they sort of collectively put a qualifying set up in the car.
- 7:50And again, he was, I think, the fastest time...
- 7:54Again, it wasn't confirmed, but it was like an 8.8 around Queensland Raceway.
- 7:59And I think that was done by Will Davison.
- 8:02But, you know, Cooper did a 9.1.
- 8:03So he wasn't far away already from what the main guys and the guys that sit in these cars every day.
- 8:10Is it a little bit of being eyes forward here too?
- 8:13I mean, obviously there was that high profile incident between Cooper and Cameron McLeod at Wanneroo.
- 8:19That's been through the appeal process with Motorsport Australia.
- 8:23We know the outcome and the findings of that was from Cooper's perspective.
- 8:27Was it important to try and move forward from that?
- 8:30Oh, absolutely.
- 8:30I sent him a message after that night when we were over in WA and said, look, you've got to sort of shake it off.
- 8:37At that point, we didn't know what the outcome was going to be.
- 8:40We do now know, but he had great speed over the course of the weekend.
- 8:45He didn't get the result that he wanted.
- 8:47And both Cam McLeod was actually at the Queensland Raceway test and they're both talking.
- 8:50There's no malice or any problems between the two of them now.
- 8:53They just want to get on with racing.
- 8:55Yeah, look, it's one of those things for Cooper is now eyes forward.
- 8:58He's really focused on Darwin.
- 9:00He wants to do a really good job.
- 9:02He knows the emphasis on understanding the tyre life because Super 2, again, you've still got the anti-roll bar adjustments in the car, but the Gen 3 cars you don't.
- 9:11And we've been talking to him a lot about that.
- 9:13And again, Wes McDougall will sort of coach him through all that side of it.
- 9:19The virtual safety car, again, is something new for him to get his head around.
- 9:22So again, there's a lot of different things that Cooper's really going to blow his mind in some regards.
- 9:28But it'll be really good once we get to St. Annabathurst to have the Darwin experience under his belt.
- 9:33quickly, how'd Jamie Wincup go?
- 9:35He won't be listening to us, mate.
- 9:36How's he going in that role there with that team?
- 9:40No, Jamie was actually really good.
- 9:41He's, you know, he's really embraced, obviously, the wild card side of it.
- 9:46But, you know, but to run the team and everything else, it's credit to him.
- 9:49He's come out of a race seat into a business seat.
- 9:52And it's sometimes hard to do and to cross over that side of it.
- 9:55And I think that it'll be interesting actually this year when he gets out of the captain's chair and he actually gets back into a race chair again when he's got to do Sandown and Bathurst.
- 10:04I think it's going to be interesting because he's known that what he's racing, he's owning and he has to pay for it.
- 10:10Yeah, I'd expect nothing less that he's attacking it, you know, in the same way that he goes about his racing very professionally.
- 10:16Hey, you're going to do Fink in a few weeks' time.
- 10:20Tell us about this program, how excited you are.
- 10:23Just before we hit record today, I think you're even talking about your navigator or your co-driver as well there too.
- 10:28Give us, you know, give us the backstory on this one.
- 10:30Well, it's been a project in the planning for the last couple of years, and it's been a staff engagement within GMSV in Melbourne.
- 10:37And it actually popped up on the radar last year when they actually started showcasing the truck.
- 10:43And it was one of those things that was like, Ooh, this is a bit interesting and started talking to them and everything else and what their program was, what their plans were.
- 10:50They wanted to run the Fink last year, but the truck wasn't ready.
- 10:52And we hadn't really, well, there hadn't been any testing done.
- 10:56So we put it on ice for 12 months.
- 10:58We got involved in the program and,
- 11:00Through GMSV, the engineers and the staff within Melbourne, as well as Mike Henry at Rampex, who looks after the Bob Jane Porsche Carrera Cup team.
- 11:11Mike's got involved, and through basically the three groups, we've had five days testing on the truck.
- 11:17And I've got to say from Test 1, which was down at Avalon,
- 11:20to the last test, which we actually did a Calder Park.
- 11:22And I hadn't been to Calder Park for a long time.
- 11:24The Calder Park was probably more of a shakedown.
- 11:27We've developed the trucks in a long way.
- 11:30It's a lot better than what we had in test one.
- 11:32And Dale Moskett, he's a very well-known navvy in Rally World, and he's done the Fink a couple of times in the side-by-sides and in a truck.
- 11:40So for his experience to come across, for me also to have someone sitting beside me, I'm not, that's foreign for me.
- 11:47So I've got to get my head around that.
- 11:50So, yeah, we go out to Fink and we're class seven, so it's more a production-based style of truck.
- 11:56So, again, we've got limitations on how hard we can hit the whoops and the jumps, but I've got to say that we had a good test.
- 12:03I think it was test four.
- 12:04We went out to Loveday Park and we actually jumped the truck.
- 12:07We hit this ski ramp at about 140.
- 12:1145, 150 kilometres an hour.
- 12:13It felt like the big TARDIS.
- 12:15Like when we left the ground to when we just floated and landed, it felt like the Titanic.
- 12:21But, look, it's a lot of fun to drive.
- 12:24Our goal is to finish the race, and that's all it is, is to obviously prologue well, to get down to Apertula, get the truck there in one.
- 12:33And I think at that point...
- 12:35we'll know the capabilities of how fast we can return.
- 12:38And there's four in our class and the Ford Raptor who won it last year, Ford have now re-entered that again.
- 12:44So we've got some stiff competition.
- 12:46Good on you.
- 12:47Look at you go.
- 12:48You sound like the dukes of hazard launching that truck.
- 12:51Very quickly, Brock, who was great to you when you were younger, he loved that safari style of competition.
- 12:57What is it that appeals to you about this?
- 12:59Well, I think it's just, again, different.
- 13:01I think you're so used to supercars and being on bitumen and the tracks that we see nearly every weekend and every year.
- 13:08It's trying to find something new and something different to do.
- 13:12And I did the Australasia Safari in 2010.
- 13:15We were lucky enough to win that.
- 13:17And it really gave me a bit of a taste of the off-road side of it.
- 13:21I've used motocross most of my life for fitness and training.
- 13:25So I've always loved and admired the dirt side of it, but just really haven't had an opportunity.
- 13:29So this is a great opportunity to do something different.
- 13:32And as I said, to showcase what Silverado can actually do.
- 13:36Mechanically, the things like a Sherman tank, we can't break it or we haven't broken it.
- 13:40Hopefully touch wood, I haven't jinxed myself.
- 13:43But like every modern car, the electronic side of it is something that we've had to massage to make sure that we dull down the ABS or the stability control, just so it gets back to a little bit of me for that natural feel of just sliding the truck around and being able to do what I want it to do instead of let the electronics do it.
- 14:00So there's been a few little things like that we've got our head around.
- 14:03But for me, it's just a lot of fun.
- 14:05And I'm really hoping that we have a good year this year.
- 14:08And fingers crossed that we can try to manipulate a second year out of it.
- 14:12Good on you.
- 14:12It's all on the King's birthday long weekend.
- 14:15Go well with that.
- 14:16Go well with the supercars wildcard a little bit later this year.
- 14:21And thank you very much for talking to us today about what is set to be an epic Velo Adelaide 500 in November.
- 14:28Oh, no, thank you.
- 14:29I think it's going to be great.
- 14:30I think there's no doubt that there's a good crossover of people of love of sprint cars and motocross and vice versa.
- 14:36So it's going to be an epic weekend.
- 14:38Don't go away.
- 14:38Toby Balboan from Sprint Car Hub joins us in just a few moments to talk about this from a Speedway perspective here on Rusty's Garage.
- 14:48This is the Motorsport Brief.
- 14:49We hope you enjoyed the first part of today's Shorty with Craig Lowndes.
- 14:52Bit of a baton change now as far as our guests are concerned.
- 14:55We welcome Toby Belbowen, former Sprint Car Driver, now the driving force of Sprint Car Hub, where you go for news, reviews, content and a whole lot more in the Speedway space, not just in Australia for that matter either.
- 15:08Hello, mate.
- 15:08Welcome to the garage.
- 15:10Thanks very much, Rusty.
- 15:11Thanks for having me on.
- 15:12What is the Speedway community's reaction to this news out of Adelaide?
- 15:17Great for both sides, really, isn't it?
- 15:20This is fantastic news.
- 15:21I'm not sure that we've ever seen this sort of event ever announced for Australian Speedway.
- 15:26It could be truly game-changing.
- 15:28So are you hearing rumours, perhaps, of American drivers or even drivers that are based in the US who might come over and be a part of this?
- 15:37Yeah, that's what it sounds like.
- 15:38It sounds like there's a lot of backing behind this event, and it's going to be absolutely huge.
- 15:43There's only 36 cars.
- 15:44It's an invite only.
- 15:46So to try and squeeze the best drivers from Australia and possibly the States, it's going to be hard to fit inside those 36 invites.
- 15:54But, yeah, potentially there's going to be a number of American drivers in attendance, and it works out perfectly.
- 16:01The timing of the year being held in the middle of November,
- 16:04The two biggest series in the States, the High Limit Racing Series and also the World of Outlaws would have finished just prior to this weekend in the middle of November.
- 16:12So it's perfect timing for a spring car racing.
- 16:15That has made my ears prick up.
- 16:17So first thing that comes to mind is could we maybe tempt or lure a Kyle Larson?
- 16:23And then, you know, you'd love to see J-Mac, James McFadden, who's been on this pod, come back and have a play and be one of the stars of this?
- 16:29Yeah.
- 16:30I think you'll find that James McFadden will be definitely part of it.
- 16:33It looks like there's Napa backing for the event, which is one of James' sponsors of his D5 spring car.
- 16:39We normally see Americans come around at the earliest, usually the start of December, and then all the way through to usually the end of January before they head back to the States to start their campaigns over there for the year.
- 16:51So I think, if anything, we'll probably see a handful, I think, come over a couple of weeks beforehand to contest this event in November.
- 16:59It's going to be huge.
- 17:01What about those here now that have been contesting things in Australia?
- 17:06Who's going to be kind of starring and ready to step up to the plate here from the domestic scene?
- 17:10There's drivers from all over Australia that I'm sure will want to be inside those 36 invites to race at the two-night event in the middle of November.
- 17:20Jock Goodyear was one who was actually at the launch of the Adelaide 500 today.
- 17:25You got Lachie McHugh, who's probably right up there with Jock as...
- 17:30probably the best drivers in Australian spring car racing at the moment.
- 17:34You've got guys from Victoria, like Jamie Veal, Brock Hallett as well.
- 17:39There's Callan Williamson, Dane Kingshot in WA.
- 17:42There's a number of drivers.
- 17:45Like I said, you know, we've got our biggest events in Australia that get over a hundred cars, like the Warrnambool's Grand Annual Spring Car Classic.
- 17:52So to trim that down to 36 is, there's certainly going to be plenty of potential winners in that field.
- 17:58and some disappointed people that might miss out, but the winners are the fans here, right?
- 18:02That's the great thing.
- 18:03While it's a special celebration for the Adelaide 500, I would love to think that the event could hit it out of the park here and that this wouldn't be just a once-er, that it might be a more regular part of the event offering.
- 18:17Yeah, it's got potentially massive implications on the sport, you know, especially in South Australia.
- 18:23There's a number of tracks that aren't far away.
- 18:25We've seen Speedway City, which is only about half an hour away from the city of Adelaide, the centre there.
- 18:31That's closed down.
- 18:32But there's Murray Bridge about an hour away.
- 18:33Then you've got a new track, a revamped track that's about three hours away.
- 18:37Border Town is Mount Gambier.
- 18:39Wyala is about four hours north of the city, a drive.
- 18:42So it's got real potential to really put some emphasis back into South Australian Speedway and not just that, but this sport of Speedway in all of Australia.
- 18:52There'll be a few people probably critical that the support hasn't been put probably behind a more permanent road.
- 18:59uh, fix like a permanent facility, but this makeshift track has potential to, like you said, drawing a lot of fans, draw on the supercars fans.
- 19:07And, uh, sounds like there's going to be a TV element involved in, in the event, which, yeah, like I said, has huge potential to really grow the sport and who knows what will spin off after this event.
- 19:18As you and I record here, I've had messages from friends in New Zealand who are saying that the addition of this Speedway stuff is enough to get them over the line in terms of tickets and wanting to come to the event now.
- 19:30So it is a drawcard.
- 19:31Toby, you know full well from a track build perspective how big this undertaking is, right?
- 19:38What kind of fundamentals do we need to get right in the creation of this track?
- 19:43That's a really good point you make because that was probably my biggest concern when I learned a little while ago about this event.
- 19:49I thought a makeshift track, you really need to get this right.
- 19:52And not just for any speedway car, but a spring car really wears and tears on the track, especially over two nights.
- 19:58So this makeshift track, it's got the right people involved.
- 20:02I will say that you've got people from Perth involved.
- 20:05I know the track curator over there is involved in the event and a couple of others from other places.
- 20:09facilities involved in making sure that this track is built right.
- 20:13You've also got, you know, being a makeshift track, you've got the fencing and the crowd capacity.
- 20:17I think it's going to hold about 8,000 people.
- 20:20So when you consider this upwards of 40,000 people that attend, say, a supercars event over the four-day event,
- 20:29You know, it's going to be hard to cram all those people in, but, you know, they've got plenty of time to prepare for it all.
- 20:34But, yeah, they certainly need to get the clay right, the preparation.
- 20:38There's other concerns like weather, which you can't control and has massive implications on the facility and this makeshift track.
- 20:45So either way, it's exciting, isn't it?
- 20:47We've seen Shane Van Gisbergen dabbling in this before he went to America for NASCAR.
- 20:52Cam Waters has been doing, I think you'll know better than me, a fabulous job when he's been doing this over summer and seems to keep getting better with every outing.
- 21:00The supercars drivers probably have to focus on the 500, but I'd love to think there's a little bit of crossover in some way around the event.
- 21:07I think there definitely will be, and I guess it's going to be up to the supercars teams whether or not they want to allow some of their drivers to compete, right?
- 21:14But someone like Cam Waters, you know, people might look at his stardom, if you will, and think, oh, he'll be a shoo-in for an invite.
- 21:22But really, he has performed very well over the last couple of years, making the feature of the…
- 21:27Grand Annual Spring Car Classic down in Warrnambool, the biggest event in Australia.
- 21:31So I think it would be awesome to see him compete on the Thursday and Friday night at the Speedway and then obviously on the circuit throughout the weekend.
- 21:39It would be really cool to see that crossover.
- 21:41And I think with having Channel 7 broadcast the supercars, and obviously it sounds like it's going to be on 7+, possibly even live on 7 May, possibly.
- 21:51Awesome.
- 21:52It's going to be huge.
- 21:52a huge, huge event for the sport.
- 21:54I've got to be honest, Rusty, I don't think we've seen this sort of hype about an event probably for 20 years since the World of Outlaws came down under here in Sydney.
- 22:04So, you know, as a sprint car and speedway tragic, this is the most excited I've ever been.
- 22:10As you should be.
- 22:11It sounds awesome.
- 22:12Before we let you go, you mentioned about joining us today from Sydney.
- 22:16It would be remiss of us not to ask about the new venue at Sydney Motorsport Park there.
- 22:20We know that it's had its challenges around drainage and that it's cost a fair bit of money to make and so on.
- 22:27Are we getting the right light at the end of the tunnel here and will we get a good summer of racing in Sydney?
- 22:32Because boy, they are crying out for it, aren't they?
- 22:34Yeah, you make a really great point.
- 22:36I've certainly been critical and raised a lot of the concerns on our Sprink Hub YouTube channel.
- 22:41And fortunately, I can say I was at the last event over the weekend just a few days ago, and it was so awesome.
- 22:46The racing is fantastic.
- 22:48The crowd loved it.
- 22:49The vibe there is exactly what we wanted a few years ago when this track first started getting built.
- 22:55So I can confidently say it is a world-class venue now.
- 22:59And I'm sure.
- 22:59It's a shot in the arm for the sport of Speedway.
- 23:02We need Speedway in Sydney up and running and thriving, and we finally got that.
- 23:06And now with this news in Adelaide, I'm so excited for the summer to come, just the entire season starting in about September, and I'm glad Sydney's going to be a part of it, and now Adelaide too.
- 23:17One thing's for certain, you'll have some sleepless nights.
- 23:19You'll be busy.
- 23:19Give people a quick plug.
- 23:20Where can they find out more about your YouTube channel, Sprint Car Hub, and so on?
- 23:24Yeah, Sprint Car Hub on YouTube is definitely our main social media, but please contact us on Facebook, Instagram.
- 23:30We're on Twitter.
- 23:31We love chatting about Speedway and in particular Sprint Car Racing.
- 23:35Sprint Car Racing truly is awesome, and I can't wait to see the crossover with the Supercars fans as well.
- 23:39So if you want to chat, come join us on any of those social media channels on Sprint Car Hub.
- 23:44You did some broadcasting last summer with my good buddy Matt Nolte and some of the Sprint Car TV team.
- 23:49We hope you get to pick up the mic around this Adelaide event perhaps and do a bit more of that over the coming season.
- 23:55Well done and thank you very much for coming on the pod today.
- 23:57Thanks so much, Rusty.
- 24:00Supercross Stadium Supertrucks as well as Crowded House and Cold Chisel as they celebrate 50 years.
- 24:07What did the late Mike Raymond used to say?
- 24:09Be there.
- 24:10Because we've had two quickfire guests today for this edition, I'm not going to spend too much time on the wrap-up.
- 24:16Massive congratulations to Oscar Piastri, second at the Monaco Grand Prix.
- 24:21The back end of this season looks like it is going to be special for that young man.
- 24:25Tough day for Will Power after starting on the front row of the Indy 500.
- 24:29He's in good shape, though, from a championship perspective.
- 24:32And Scott McLaughlin was probably a little bit hard on himself in what he said on social media after grabbing pole position in the affectionately named the remake of the Yellow Submarine.
- 24:43He did a great job and I think on balance over the month of May.
- 24:46There are lots of positives for him to take away.
- 24:49Congratulations to Scott Dixon on the top three result and to Joseph Newgarden incredibly going back to back.
- 24:56Speed Series is on this weekend from the Bend in South Australia.
- 24:59They are using the West Circuit there.
- 25:01That should be something quite different and a good roll-up of cars and categories there too.
- 25:05That's it for today.
- 25:06We'll catch you next week.
- 25:07Bye for now.
