- 0:00Speaker 1: Everybody.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Welcome to the program here on sports Radio AM thirteen
- 0:04Speaker 2: hundred The Zone and on the iHeartRadio app where you
- 0:07Speaker 2: can always listen for free. We're glad to have you
- 0:09Speaker 2: with us. My name is Craig Way. Thanks so much
- 0:11Speaker 2: for taking a few minutes or more out of your
- 0:14Speaker 2: day to tune in. Glad to have you with us.
- 0:16Speaker 2: And us includes the producer of the program. His name
- 0:20Speaker 2: is Cameron D.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Parker.
- 0:22Speaker 2: The D on the birth certificate stands for the football
- 0:25Speaker 2: team that went to Charlotte North Carolina and beat the
- 0:27Speaker 2: pants off to Carolina Pants yesterday. Yes, his middle name
- 0:30Speaker 2: is Dallas, named in honor of his favorite pro football team,
- 0:34Speaker 2: even if he refuses to watch them out of the frustration.
- 0:38Speaker 2: But since he was engineering the Texas men's basketball game
- 0:41Speaker 2: that I was calling yesterday, he didn't get a chance other.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Than I thought.
- 0:44Speaker 2: So you sneak a glance or two over there, just
- 0:46Speaker 2: to see how things are going.
- 0:48Speaker 1: How's your Monday going, by the way, it's going good, Craig.
- 0:50Speaker 1: It is game week, baby.
- 0:54Speaker 3: The first ever year we had the college football playoff expansion,
- 0:58Speaker 3: We're gonna have home football games in the first round.
- 1:00Speaker 3: It took college football I don't know how many years
- 1:03Speaker 3: to figure out. Hey, maybe let's have home field advantage
- 1:07Speaker 3: in the postseason for these teams and not played at
- 1:09Speaker 3: a half empty stadium in so far with Rob Gronkowski
- 1:13Speaker 3: coming out of Havetime or Jimmy Kimmel or Snoop Dog whatever,
- 1:16Speaker 3: let's do a home game first round the playoff. We
- 1:19Speaker 3: got games at the Horseshoe, at Happy Valley, at Notre Dame,
- 1:24Speaker 3: and at DKR.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:26Speaker 3: I'm so pumped. I can't wait for this game, Craig.
- 1:29Speaker 3: I can't wait for our broadcast, the pregame show Longhorns game.
- 1:32Speaker 3: They now in the two PM myself, Hardball and Mark
- 1:34Speaker 3: Henry come out and say what's up to us.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I'm excited to see Clemson.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I've been an admirer of Davo and Clemson, of the program.
- 1:42Speaker 3: He's about the last couple of years, manh Man. But
- 1:45Speaker 3: obviously Kad kleb MC his ties from West Lake. Of course,
- 1:48Speaker 3: you know I saw him play in a handful of
- 1:50Speaker 3: playoff games. Ian Reed as well, who I know is
- 1:53Speaker 3: not playing in this game, but excited to see Clemson.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Who I think I think I know Bernard Orange is
- 1:58Speaker 3: to Dree Orange, I'll let you in a little secret, Craig.
- 2:01Speaker 3: I like Clemson's colors. I like the purple and orange.
- 2:04Speaker 3: I like the hat with the sea on it. I
- 2:06Speaker 3: think it looks pretty cool and I'm pumped up for
- 2:08Speaker 3: college football this Saturday.
- 2:10Speaker 2: My high school had at least for one y runs
- 2:13Speaker 2: in high school and we had a prett good high
- 2:14Speaker 2: school football program. Had the Clemson that that Tiger Paul
- 2:19Speaker 2: logo on the side, and now we were blue and white.
- 2:22Speaker 2: We were the Flying Tigers of Lucy Coffin Raxdale High
- 2:24Speaker 2: School of Jamestown, North Carolina. But we had white helmet
- 2:29Speaker 2: with that with a blue Clemson Tiger Paul like the
- 2:32Speaker 2: one the white one you see on the side of
- 2:34Speaker 2: the orange helmet. We had a blue one on the side,
- 2:37Speaker 2: So I know what you're talking about. And their fights
- 2:39Speaker 2: hung like cars. He had hold that tiger you know,
- 2:42Speaker 2: had that as well. But it's also interesting you mentioned
- 2:46Speaker 2: you mentioned Kate Club Nick and Ian Reed. They're Alma
- 2:49Speaker 2: Maters CAD's being Westlake, Ian's being Vandergriff.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Both.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Congratulations to those programs. They will be playing for state
- 2:58Speaker 2: championships this coming Saturday. Vandergriff will take on South Lake
- 3:03Speaker 2: Carol one of the pre eminent programs a year in
- 3:06Speaker 2: year out. In the six to eight Division two game
- 3:07Speaker 2: that's at three o'clock Saturday afternoon, Carol won on a
- 3:11Speaker 2: walk off field goal against long View that that was
- 3:14Speaker 2: they got to redo because the first one was no good,
- 3:17Speaker 2: but running into the kicker was called against Longview and
- 3:20Speaker 2: so they got one more shot at it and banged
- 3:23Speaker 2: it through. At South Lake, Carol won that. Meanwhile, Vandergriff
- 3:26Speaker 2: rallied from a ten point deficit in the first half
- 3:31Speaker 2: against Summer Creek, a team that the computer liked, a
- 3:33Speaker 2: team that was in the state finals a year ago,
- 3:36Speaker 2: and they rallied back and they were tough and tough
- 3:39Speaker 2: down the stretch on defense. So Vandergriff won that one,
- 3:42Speaker 2: thirty four to thirty one. So they're making their second
- 3:44Speaker 2: trip to the state championship round in three years. So
- 3:48Speaker 2: congratulations to do Drew Sanders and the Vipers going back
- 3:50Speaker 2: to the state.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Town to run.
- 3:51Speaker 2: And how about west Like my goodness, Galena Park north Shore,
- 3:54Speaker 2: who has kind of been a standard bear out of
- 3:56Speaker 2: the Greater Houston area the past several years. They had
- 3:59Speaker 2: won three of the prior for meetings against West Lake
- 4:03Speaker 2: and they played in Katie on Saturday. Got a chance
- 4:06Speaker 2: to call that game for the FanDuel Sports Network and
- 4:10Speaker 2: it was dominant. Westlake had a dominant performance all three phases, offense, defense,
- 4:17Speaker 2: special teams. They dominated that football game in winning thirty
- 4:21Speaker 2: five to ten. They were up twenty one to three
- 4:23Speaker 2: before you could bat an eye, or fourteen three before
- 4:25Speaker 2: you could blink, and then twenty one to three late
- 4:27Speaker 2: and a half, and North Short scored just before they
- 4:32Speaker 2: have to cut it to twenty to ten. Twenty one
- 4:34Speaker 2: to ten, got the football to start the second half.
- 4:36Speaker 2: So we were talking about today, you know, coach would
- 4:38Speaker 2: like to get that daily double scored just for the
- 4:40Speaker 2: half against football start second half of that.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Well, or Short scored right before the half.
- 4:44Speaker 2: They got the football start the second half, and they
- 4:46Speaker 2: went for it on fourth down and I think it
- 4:48Speaker 2: was about four or maybe six inside their own twenty
- 4:54Speaker 2: yard line. Dan Campbell didn't get it. They were on
- 4:57Speaker 2: their own nineteen yard line and got stopped. And then
- 5:00Speaker 2: one play later West Lakes truck Reese Wise had himself
- 5:04Speaker 2: a marvelous game at quarterback and they hit Grady Bartler
- 5:07Speaker 2: for a touchdown. It was twenty eight ten that point
- 5:10Speaker 2: and that point it was so he gett a schwaeper
- 5:12Speaker 2: because it was done. After that, they went only won
- 5:15Speaker 2: thirty five ten, So congratulations. Westlake went back to the
- 5:18Speaker 2: state championship round for the twelfth time in school history
- 5:23Speaker 2: and the first time in three years since they finished
- 5:27Speaker 2: the three peat run under Todd dodge Well. Now Tony
- 5:29Speaker 2: Salazar has coached a team into the state finals himself,
- 5:32Speaker 2: and they're playing North Crowley, not Duncanville. The two time
- 5:36Speaker 2: defending state champions are defending no More and novils A
- 5:40Speaker 2: seasaw Fair. North Crowley jumped with a fifteen to nothing
- 5:43Speaker 2: lead and Duncanville came back three unanswered touchdowns, went up
- 5:46Speaker 2: twenty one point fifteen. Then North Crowley punched a couple
- 5:50Speaker 2: of touchdowns across. They went up twenty nine to twenty one.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Duncanyville closed within two, missed on the two point conversion
- 5:55Speaker 2: try that would have tied it. It was twenty nine to
- 5:57Speaker 2: twenty seven. North Crowley scored and we said, okay, well
- 6:00Speaker 2: that's done. There's just there's under two minutes to go
- 6:03Speaker 2: in the game. It took down Kviill thirty seconds to
- 6:05Speaker 2: come down and score cut it. The thirty six, thirty four,
- 6:09Speaker 2: but they could not stop North Crowley after that they
- 6:12Speaker 2: kept the ball on the ground. So North Crowley going
- 6:15Speaker 2: to the state championship round to get this. North Crowley
- 6:20Speaker 2: has a state title. A lot of folks may not
- 6:22Speaker 2: remember they did win one, and they were a relatively
- 6:27Speaker 2: new school at the time.
- 6:28Speaker 1: This was twenty one years ago.
- 6:29Speaker 2: This was in two thousand and three, and I had
- 6:33Speaker 2: done TV that morning or at noon on what was
- 6:38Speaker 2: then the five A Division one state championship because the
- 6:41Speaker 2: largest bracket only had thirty two teams in it in
- 6:43Speaker 2: five A what's now known as six A back then,
- 6:46Speaker 2: and then the Division two had a larger bracket, a
- 6:49Speaker 2: sixty fourteen bracket, so we used to stagger them on
- 6:53Speaker 2: successive weekends. So the first one was North Shore against
- 6:58Speaker 2: the Woodlands and it was Northshore's first state titled.
- 7:01Speaker 1: David A.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Mam was the coach and I called that game for
- 7:03Speaker 2: television that day. It was noon a noonkick at Rice Stadium,
- 7:07Speaker 2: and Bobby Reid was the quarterback for North Serry. He's
- 7:10Speaker 2: the one that went on Oklahoma State and caused all
- 7:14Speaker 2: the controversy there when Jenny Carlson wrote the article that
- 7:17Speaker 2: sprung the come after me. I'm a man, I'm forty
- 7:20Speaker 2: that deal. It all started from a Bobby Reid thing afterwards,
- 7:25Speaker 2: and by the way, the Woodlands was coached by Mike Amandola,
- 7:32Speaker 2: whose son Danny was playing for the Woodlands. Danny Amandola
- 7:36Speaker 2: of course went on to Texas Tech and then the NFL.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Well. Northshore wins that game.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Their defensive coordinator was a fellow by the name of
- 7:43Speaker 2: Craig Cheshire who parlayed that into his first and still
- 7:47Speaker 2: only head coaching job. He's been at Stony Point since
- 7:49Speaker 2: two thousand and four, the last twenty years, but he
- 7:52Speaker 2: was the defensive coordat of a great North Shore defense.
- 7:54Speaker 2: So when the game was over, I jumped on the
- 7:56Speaker 2: car and the zipped up the college station because that
- 7:58Speaker 2: night for radio I called what was then the four
- 8:01Speaker 2: A Division one State Final, nowadays have been known as
- 8:03Speaker 2: five eight, and it featured North Crowley kind of a
- 8:10Speaker 2: newbie against a Bay City team who had an up
- 8:13Speaker 2: and coming young defensive coordinator by the name of Hank Carter,
- 8:17Speaker 2: who then go on obviously to Stephenville and then the
- 8:20Speaker 2: Lake Travis and North Crowley won that game, but this
- 8:25Speaker 2: is their first time in the state final of the
- 8:29Speaker 2: largest classification, So North Crowley and Westlake play at seven
- 8:32Speaker 2: o'clock on Saturday night. I've been asked about this by
- 8:35Speaker 2: a lot of people. I'm not calling either of those games,
- 8:37Speaker 2: Vandergrift in Westlake because the day job. I'll be busy
- 8:43Speaker 2: down here with Texas Clemson, and we're gonna hear from
- 8:46Speaker 2: Long Wrnons head coach Steve sarkisian this being a Long
- 8:49Speaker 2: WRNS Monday, probably our final Long Horns Monday of the season,
- 8:53Speaker 2: even with a Texas win.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 8:55Speaker 2: We'll see how the holiday affects, whether there's a Monday
- 8:58Speaker 2: news conference or how that works. But we did have
- 9:02Speaker 2: a Long RNE Monday news conference to bring you live
- 9:05Speaker 2: this morning at eleven o'clock with coach sark and you'll
- 9:07Speaker 2: hear that the comments from sark from that press are
- 9:12Speaker 2: coming up. Also, we'll review the NFL weekend. Your Dallas
- 9:17Speaker 2: Cowboys thumping the Caroline. How did your friends and Charlotte
- 9:20Speaker 2: take to that? They couldn't have been very happy.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I saw a text message. I don't think many
- 9:24Speaker 3: of them watched it, to be honest with you. One
- 9:26Speaker 3: of the texts was all right, how many of Bryce's
- 9:28Speaker 3: six turnovers were his fault, so it tells you how
- 9:31Speaker 3: the game went okay with four turnovers overall in that one.
- 9:35Speaker 3: So it's a ceedee lamb at a big game. Yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 3: he did for the Cowboys, Freco Dattle pretty good. He's
- 9:41Speaker 3: been in one of the few bright spots this football.
- 9:44Speaker 2: So the Cowboys are six and eight right and they
- 9:48Speaker 2: still have a barely breathing mathematical shot to make the playoffs.
- 9:54Speaker 2: So we'll see how it finishes out from there. As
- 9:57Speaker 2: a Rams fan, I was happy to see the Packers
- 9:59Speaker 2: beat the Seahawks, Lises.
- 10:00Speaker 1: How about the uniform matchup last night? Did you see
- 10:04Speaker 1: what Seattle's wearing?
- 10:05Speaker 2: Those neon green highlighter uniforms and the Packers went Stormtrooper white.
- 10:10Speaker 2: They wore icy whites, including a white helmet. They didn't
- 10:13Speaker 2: wear the yellow green Bay helmet. They wore the white
- 10:16Speaker 2: helmet with a G football logo on the side. But
- 10:20Speaker 2: the Packers won that game. In winning thirty to thirteen,
- 10:25Speaker 2: they close in on getting close to clinching a playoff spot. Meanwhile,
- 10:28Speaker 2: Seattle drops in a tie for first place in the
- 10:31Speaker 2: NFC West with the Rams. Each team has three games remaining,
- 10:35Speaker 2: including a head to head meeting in Los Angeles the
- 10:38Speaker 2: final weekend of the regular seasons.
- 10:39Speaker 1: We'll talk about the NFL.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Cam has to be happy that his Oklahoma City Thunder
- 10:45Speaker 2: tomorrow night are playing in the Emirates NBA Cup Final
- 10:48Speaker 2: against the Milwaukee Bucks. Let me say this, I'm glad
- 10:53Speaker 2: for the sake of the NBA and the Emirates NBA
- 10:55Speaker 2: Cup that it is the Thunder in the Bucks because
- 10:58Speaker 2: you got two of the better franchise are two of
- 11:00Speaker 2: the better teams in the NBA. If we had been
- 11:03Speaker 2: left with Houston against Atlanta, an Atlanta team is now
- 11:06Speaker 2: fourteen and thirteen, you know, So I'm I'm glad.
- 11:11Speaker 1: It worked out that way. So there's that.
- 11:14Speaker 2: So and of course there's college basketball from over the weekend.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Long Worn's one yesterday one twenty one to fifty seven
- 11:22Speaker 2: of Arkansas Pine Bluff. We'll hear from head coach Rodney
- 11:25Speaker 2: Terry coming off of that contest. Texas women went on
- 11:29Speaker 2: the road on Sunday in the state of Virginia for
- 11:31Speaker 2: the second straight Sunday, and they beat the Richmond Spiders
- 11:36Speaker 2: yesterday sixty five to fifty four. So they're ten and
- 11:40Speaker 2: one this season, so we'll get to all of that
- 11:42Speaker 2: and a lot more and your questions. As always, if
- 11:44Speaker 2: you like to reach us via the talkback feature, all
- 11:48Speaker 2: you have to do is open up AM thirteen under
- 11:50Speaker 2: the zone on the iHeartRadio app, pressed that little red
- 11:53Speaker 2: button and has a white microphone, and you can leave
- 11:55Speaker 2: us up to thirty seconds of a voice passage.
- 11:57Speaker 1: We'll play it back for you on the air. Do that, uh.
- 12:02Speaker 1: And we also have the text line.
- 12:03Speaker 2: You can text the word Texas follow by your question
- 12:05Speaker 2: or comment to eight one five three zero. So you
- 12:09Speaker 2: text the word Texas, then your question or comment to
- 12:12Speaker 2: eight one five three zero. Standard messaging and data rates
- 12:16Speaker 2: may apply, but we're going to get to Steve Sarkishan's comments.
- 12:19Speaker 2: That's up next here on a Monday on sports Radio
- 12:21Speaker 2: AM thirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
