- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up on this week's episode of hip Hop Now podcast,
- 0:05Speaker 1: It's the twenty twenty five preview show. Happy New Year,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Let's do it. Welcome to jipp Hop Now, pot fat
- 0:18Speaker 1: as if you from the future. You know what to do.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Get your ass out of my past life. Don't disrespectful
- 0:28Speaker 1: leg like ye hip hop is say to stay. Let's
- 0:33Speaker 1: get rightful too the business. What up, y'all? I am
- 0:36Speaker 1: your host Vegas and this it's hip Hop Now podcasting
- 0:40Speaker 1: podcast specifically designed to keep you caught up on all
- 0:43Speaker 1: things hip hop music and culture that happened throughout the
- 0:46Speaker 1: week or that happened throughout the year. Happy New Year
- 0:50Speaker 1: to you and yours. It is twenty twenty five. Now
- 0:55Speaker 1: were good. We were all good, Like we're all safe,
- 0:59Speaker 1: you know, hopefully and all that good stuff. And what
- 1:02Speaker 1: we do here with this show is we do a
- 1:05Speaker 1: preview of what the new year will be. So first
- 1:09Speaker 1: and foremost, let's turn off my notifications on my computer
- 1:13Speaker 1: because it's going crazy right now. I don't know why.
- 1:17Speaker 1: For first and foremost, big, super big shout out to
- 1:23Speaker 1: all the subscribers to hip Hop Now podcasts on YouTube.
- 1:27Speaker 1: We have reached one thousand subs. It feels good to
- 1:32Speaker 1: be on the other side. In twenty twenty four, a
- 1:37Speaker 1: thousand was like my goal for the year. Right. Obviously
- 1:41Speaker 1: you can get more than that, especially if you go
- 1:43Speaker 1: viral for a video or whatever. But there's certain things
- 1:46Speaker 1: I'm not willing to compromise in order to get my
- 1:51Speaker 1: subscriber count up. Right, Everything is organic with me. It's
- 1:55Speaker 1: about the culture's about the music. It's not about court trials.
- 1:58Speaker 1: It's not about beefs unless it's that interesting. And when
- 2:03Speaker 1: I say beefs, I'm not talking about battles that y'all
- 2:05Speaker 1: call beefs. I'm talking about beefs, like real beef. You
- 2:09Speaker 1: know what I'm saying in the streets. But the goal
- 2:14Speaker 1: was a thousand, and we hit that in record time
- 2:19Speaker 1: right before twenty twenty four ended, which was dope, and
- 2:23Speaker 1: mainly because we started the year. I might have been
- 2:27Speaker 1: somewhere around don't quote me on this, but I might
- 2:31Speaker 1: have been somewhere around two hundred or something like that
- 2:35Speaker 1: when it came to subscribers, and you know, obviously I
- 2:38Speaker 1: pumped out content here and there, some shorts, some other videos,
- 2:43Speaker 1: my weekly podcasts, some special videos, collaborative videos with other podcasts,
- 2:49Speaker 1: just to kind of keep the content flowing, but content
- 2:52Speaker 1: that would interest people like you, and I feel like
- 2:56Speaker 1: that helped escalate it, along with spreading the word people
- 3:00Speaker 1: like you. If you share the podcast, I don't care.
- 3:04Speaker 1: If you share it with twenty thousand people and two
- 3:07Speaker 1: people click on it and two people decide to subscribe,
- 3:10Speaker 1: that's more than what I had. You know what I'm saying.
- 3:13Speaker 1: So again, big shout out to everybody who came through.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Now I'm not gonna say, oh, well, now, the goal
- 3:19Speaker 1: is two thousand, because obviously the goal is always to
- 3:22Speaker 1: go up, right, but I will say the soft goal
- 3:26Speaker 1: right now is five thousand, right, five thousand subscribers to
- 3:31Speaker 1: keep growing the channel. I've got a steady pace going,
- 3:35Speaker 1: so I think we can kind of get there. But
- 3:37Speaker 1: it's a long road and I'm not even gonna jinx
- 3:40Speaker 1: myself in twenty twenty five. Also, big shout out to
- 3:44Speaker 1: all the news outlets over the years to be honest,
- 3:48Speaker 1: but especially in twenty twenty four, where you know, I
- 3:50Speaker 1: grab some of the stories that were interesting and spoke
- 3:54Speaker 1: about those, reacted to some of those, but in general,
- 3:58Speaker 1: twenty twenty four from a new standpoint from a hip
- 4:02Speaker 1: hop standpoint, I think was a very big year for
- 4:07Speaker 1: hip hop, coming off of twenty twenty threes, fifty years
- 4:10Speaker 1: of hip hop, where it was this complete celebration. I
- 4:15Speaker 1: literally decided to keep my podcast going just because it
- 4:20Speaker 1: was fifty years of hip hop and I was gonna
- 4:23Speaker 1: end it because I'm like nine years in now, so
- 4:27Speaker 1: obviously we've got to get to the tenth year, which
- 4:29Speaker 1: would be in twenty twenty six. But you know, it
- 4:32Speaker 1: was a crazy situation where you're kind of trying to
- 4:39Speaker 1: look at Okay, twenty twenty three was fifty years of
- 4:42Speaker 1: hip hop? What's next? Is it worth it? Is it
- 4:45Speaker 1: going to be the same old thing that we had
- 4:48Speaker 1: in previous years? But I think something changed, And I
- 4:52Speaker 1: think something changed in like twenty twenty with the pandemic,
- 4:58Speaker 1: with the lockdown, something about things that were born out
- 5:04Speaker 1: of the lockdown that brought true the true essence of
- 5:08Speaker 1: hip hop, beats and bars, regardless of where you're from,
- 5:12Speaker 1: whether you're from the South, where you're from the West coast.
- 5:15Speaker 1: West Coast had a huge year in twenty twenty four.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Props to them, and a lot changed. But when I
- 5:22Speaker 1: say that, I'm talking about like you go back and
- 5:24Speaker 1: look at the albums that dropped in twenty twenty, right,
- 5:27Speaker 1: It's a lot of dope albums that dropped that year,
- 5:30Speaker 1: But specifically I look at and I'm not saying he's
- 5:33Speaker 1: responsible for all of it, but I look at NAS's
- 5:35Speaker 1: run with hip Boy, right, which started around the pandemic,
- 5:40Speaker 1: and how impressive it was, and how it wasn't just
- 5:45Speaker 1: an older audience that was excited every time Nas and
- 5:49Speaker 1: hip Boy dropped. It was like everybody who loves hip hop,
- 5:53Speaker 1: regardless of age. And I think he sparked something and
- 5:57Speaker 1: other artists right at the same time during the pandemic,
- 6:03Speaker 1: co'mon talked about really only listening to old schools stressed
- 6:08Speaker 1: like nineties and eighties, and like that's all he did
- 6:11Speaker 1: during the pandemic, which inspired him to reach out to
- 6:14Speaker 1: somebody like a peat Rock and create what many have
- 6:18Speaker 1: as best album of the year. Grammy nominated The Auditorium
- 6:22Speaker 1: Volume one. Right going out of that time, you know,
- 6:26Speaker 1: and got to be inspired in some ways by NASA's run.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Same thing with seeing ll come back to the game
- 6:32Speaker 1: with Q Tip and finally even though they were talking
- 6:36Speaker 1: about that album for a long time, but finally put
- 6:39Speaker 1: it out and have it well received. Snooping Doctor Dre.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Snoop been releasing albums like forever, but now he finally
- 6:48Speaker 1: got back with Doctor Dre on a project and it
- 6:51Speaker 1: was excellent. Right, So there's so many instances of hip
- 6:56Speaker 1: hop basically coming back, and that's just from the old
- 7:00Speaker 1: school side. Then we get the battle with Drake and
- 7:04Speaker 1: Kendrick and Jacole you can count on my guess, and
- 7:09Speaker 1: you know, you feel like bars were back, because sure
- 7:14Speaker 1: there was the Internet tactics, and you know what Grake
- 7:19Speaker 1: or what Drake was trying to do as far as like,
- 7:21Speaker 1: you know, the stories and trolling and trying to do
- 7:23Speaker 1: a lot of Internet stuff, and Kendrick just kept dropping records.
- 7:27Speaker 1: He kept dropping records and one thing, and you know,
- 7:30Speaker 1: we're not going to spend too much time on that
- 7:32Speaker 1: battle because there's things to talk about later in this episode.
- 7:35Speaker 1: But one other thing that stood out was the fact
- 7:38Speaker 1: that even though Kendrick was just dropping, each song covered
- 7:46Speaker 1: a flow or a vibe or feeling or a type
- 7:49Speaker 1: of beat or type of flow I should say from
- 7:53Speaker 1: Kendrick in hip hop, right, you wanted your bars straight
- 7:58Speaker 1: up bars kind of boom babs. You get something like
- 8:01Speaker 1: six sixteen, you want a ruthless this track, you get
- 8:04Speaker 1: something like Meet the Grams. Then you get something that
- 8:08Speaker 1: none of us would have predicted. It not like us,
- 8:10Speaker 1: like really like a jam, but it's a disc record.
- 8:15Speaker 1: And then there's euphoria, which is to me kind of
- 8:18Speaker 1: all of it. So when I look at twenty twenty
- 8:22Speaker 1: four and I look at all these things that happened
- 8:25Speaker 1: from a great battle, and that's not to take anything
- 8:27Speaker 1: away from Drake, because Drake was fighting and I like pushups,
- 8:32Speaker 1: but I feel like hip hop did well in twenty
- 8:36Speaker 1: twenty four coming off a fiftieth anniversary. You know what
- 8:40Speaker 1: I'm saying when I talk about all the old school
- 8:43Speaker 1: artists that re emerged quote unquote new school artists or
- 8:47Speaker 1: the leaders of the game, so to speak with Kendrick J.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Cole and Drake, regardless of how it turned out, and
- 8:57Speaker 1: now with twenty twenty five, it's like, okay, what's next. Also,
- 9:02Speaker 1: just one quick note, I want to know, even though
- 9:04Speaker 1: this wasn't in my best STU show because it was
- 9:07Speaker 1: released on Christmas, Eve Redman's Muddy Waters Too did not
- 9:13Speaker 1: disappoint me. I was actually pleasantly surprised. Is it a
- 9:19Speaker 1: classic No, it doesn't come close to the original. No.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Is it one of Redman's better albums? Yeah? I put
- 9:27Speaker 1: it top five for him, put it top five. Now,
- 9:29Speaker 1: I'm not gonna go in any order, but I'll just
- 9:33Speaker 1: tell you out of his catalog, what's my top five?
- 9:36Speaker 1: And I feel like it's Muddy Waters one, right, what
- 9:42Speaker 1: the album? There's a dark side? What else? Muddy Waters too?
- 9:51Speaker 1: And probably Docked the name, which I wasn't the biggest
- 9:57Speaker 1: fan of. But it's not a whack album at all.
- 10:00Speaker 1: But those are the five when it comes to Red Man,
- 10:02Speaker 1: and I think it's something significant considering what he's released
- 10:07Speaker 1: over the years that I did a little a tear
- 10:10Speaker 1: list with him and Method Man, and I rated those
- 10:12Speaker 1: albums to come back in this way with a sequel
- 10:16Speaker 1: where you could just basically close the casket on your
- 10:19Speaker 1: career because nobody was checking for new Red Men at all.
- 10:24Speaker 1: But this Redman only make albums like this. Now let's
- 10:30Speaker 1: get into what we're going to talk about for twenty
- 10:32Speaker 1: twenty five. So every year I do these previews, what
- 10:37Speaker 1: I like to do is simply tell you about some
- 10:41Speaker 1: albums that are scheduled to drop in twenty twenty five. Right,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and some albums that are rumored to drop, and then
- 10:51Speaker 1: I have also I have like my wishes for twenty
- 10:56Speaker 1: twenty five and they're usually ridiculous. And yes, Detox is
- 11:02Speaker 1: not there at this time. I think I gave it
- 11:05Speaker 1: up last year. I was like, all right, we're not
- 11:08Speaker 1: gonna get an album called Detox. Dre has moved on.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I think the Snoop and Doctor Dre album was that
- 11:18Speaker 1: it was like, Yo, you're not gonna get Detox at all.
- 11:21Speaker 1: So I moved on. Okay, but I have other wishes.
- 11:24Speaker 1: But let's get into a couple of the albums that
- 11:28Speaker 1: are highly anticipated to just anticipate it from myself out
- 11:35Speaker 1: of curiosity. Some of those albums include J Cole's The
- 11:40Speaker 1: Fall Off I'm not gonna hold job. J Cole ducked
- 11:45Speaker 1: the Battle. Kendrick said on like that I want to
- 11:48Speaker 1: see what that problem about. He said, I don't. I'm
- 11:52Speaker 1: gonna take it on the chin, homie, I don't want
- 11:54Speaker 1: no smoke. And most people kind of wrote J Cole
- 11:59Speaker 1: off like for good, forever, for the moment, whatever, And
- 12:07Speaker 1: I think for me, Mike delete Later took a hit
- 12:11Speaker 1: because Mike delete Later was a dope mixtape if you
- 12:14Speaker 1: will from j Cole and I think once he put
- 12:18Speaker 1: that seven minute drill diss to Kendrick on there and
- 12:21Speaker 1: then took it off and apologized, I think it sucked
- 12:24Speaker 1: all the life out of that project, out of the
- 12:27Speaker 1: launch of this album. But I gotta believe that if
- 12:33Speaker 1: he had been planning this for as long as he has,
- 12:37Speaker 1: it's some heat on it. And I think the best
- 12:40Speaker 1: thing he can do to keep people from pouncing on
- 12:43Speaker 1: him every time he pop out is to just add
- 12:47Speaker 1: that Kendrick feature. Hey man, I'm sorry, you can say
- 12:52Speaker 1: sorry in person, whatever, Add that Kendrick feature and let
- 12:56Speaker 1: it be that, right, Just let it be that. So
- 12:59Speaker 1: I'm really curious as to what Ja Coles to fall
- 13:03Speaker 1: off is going to sound like, whether hearing him saying
- 13:06Speaker 1: I'm a top five MC or goat or whatever. It's
- 13:10Speaker 1: still nice with it, but there's just something about dunking
- 13:14Speaker 1: a battle. It was a battle right that. You know,
- 13:19Speaker 1: we ain't gonna get into it, but it's just something
- 13:21Speaker 1: about that. I've talked about it at nauseum and other
- 13:25Speaker 1: videos last year. Go watch those if you want to
- 13:28Speaker 1: know my full opinion on the whole duck In the
- 13:30Speaker 1: battle thing kind, but I'm still anticipating the album. I'm
- 13:34Speaker 1: not gonna lie. I am gonna press play Kanye West.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Bully not the only reason why this is on here
- 13:41Speaker 1: because I think I tapped out after Vultures with ty
- 13:46Speaker 1: Dallas sign right like it was cool. But I was like,
- 13:49Speaker 1: this is a bunch of nonsense. Whatever, there's a crowd
- 13:52Speaker 1: for it. Well, this album Bully that Kanye West has
- 13:56Speaker 1: been teasing. It's supposed to be you getting the old
- 14:02Speaker 1: Yay back. Remember how everybody's like, yo, I missed the
- 14:07Speaker 1: old Kanye, Yo, I miss y'all. I missed. This is
- 14:11Speaker 1: supposed to be that now. I will say this. On
- 14:14Speaker 1: the production side, he hasn't really left. He might choose
- 14:20Speaker 1: to make different styles of beats, but they always sound
- 14:22Speaker 1: good to me. The music always sounds good, whether I
- 14:25Speaker 1: like his newer projects or not. But something about the
- 14:29Speaker 1: o Ya Back, like he can still he can still rap,
- 14:32Speaker 1: he can still spit it. He still sounds like the
- 14:34Speaker 1: yay You know. It's just that the music has changed
- 14:39Speaker 1: over time and the subject matter has changed to something
- 14:42Speaker 1: that most people, not most people, but people who want
- 14:46Speaker 1: the o Ya back don't like. This album is supposed
- 14:50Speaker 1: to be oh yay. Now when we say oh yay,
- 14:52Speaker 1: it's supposed to be that, well, that means college dropout,
- 14:58Speaker 1: late registration, graduation, maybe a little easies, my beautiful Dog,
- 15:05Speaker 1: twisted fantasy, you know, like something, so we'll see. I'm
- 15:12Speaker 1: curious to listen for that reason alone. This is highly
- 15:16Speaker 1: anticipated because I thought it was going to drop this year,
- 15:19Speaker 1: but then when I saw them in depth, Jym like, hey,
- 15:21Speaker 1: we signed, I was like that, I will make coming
- 15:23Speaker 1: out in twenty twenty four, but in twenty twenty five,
- 15:26Speaker 1: I think, So that's the clips. Let God sort them out.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I love the title. I love the title. I cannot wait.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I love Pharrell's brand of boom back if you will.
- 15:44Speaker 1: It's always clean, but it knocks, you know what I'm saying.
- 15:46Speaker 1: It's always very different, and it just fits the rapping
- 15:53Speaker 1: styles of no Malice, No Malice and push your T.
- 15:59Speaker 1: And if we're not going to get a Pusher T solo,
- 16:02Speaker 1: I could wait, and because I'd rather have a clipse,
- 16:05Speaker 1: I'd rather have that break because Pushing T really gave
- 16:08Speaker 1: us two back to back joints before this, So in
- 16:11Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, I'm definitely looking forward to that. Lil
- 16:15Speaker 1: Wayne the Carter six. I was not really interested in
- 16:19Speaker 1: this because I feel like the Carter series hasn't been
- 16:22Speaker 1: that good since maybe Carter four. But for me personally,
- 16:28Speaker 1: Carter three was like the peak of it, and everything
- 16:33Speaker 1: else has kind of been downhill. Not saying every record
- 16:36Speaker 1: was whack on those other albums, it was just like
- 16:38Speaker 1: it was hit or miss. It was like, oh, this
- 16:40Speaker 1: one's crazy, These are trash. Oh these two a thote,
- 16:44Speaker 1: These are trash. So I'm curious as to what this
- 16:49Speaker 1: is going to be, especially coming off what he called
- 16:53Speaker 1: a super Bowl halftime performing snub. Now no one agrees
- 16:57Speaker 1: with that except for those who are woe is me crying?
- 17:00Speaker 1: Ask people like he was right, but according to him,
- 17:06Speaker 1: he's moving beyond that right. He reached out the Kendrick
- 17:10Speaker 1: to actually congratulate him like a real professional does. Even
- 17:14Speaker 1: if you're disappointed, this is your counterpart. It's saying, you know,
- 17:17Speaker 1: you don't got no problems with him unless you do. So.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I kind of feel like Wayne has some motivation now.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I don't know what that album was sounding like prior
- 17:28Speaker 1: to this situation, but now that he has some motivation
- 17:33Speaker 1: to show why he's crazy, not mentally crazy, you know
- 17:39Speaker 1: what I mean. But why he called himself a goat?
- 17:43Speaker 1: Why he think he should have got to have time performance?
- 17:47Speaker 1: This is the album that will have to say that
- 17:50Speaker 1: because the performances haven't said that. We know he got
- 17:53Speaker 1: the hits to do the Super Bowl, but he got
- 17:57Speaker 1: to make twenty twenty five his year, right Kendrick. Kendrick
- 18:02Speaker 1: owned twenty twenty four. He owned it. It was just
- 18:04Speaker 1: too crazy. He owned it. But now it's time for
- 18:07Speaker 1: Lil Wayne to look at what Ell did, what Snoop did,
- 18:12Speaker 1: what Common did and say, Yo, I'm gonna remind you
- 18:15Speaker 1: of who I am. Also, So that's part of the
- 18:19Speaker 1: reason why I anticipate that project Nas and DJ Premier now.
- 18:26Speaker 1: They said it was coming later this year. I did
- 18:29Speaker 1: not believe him at all. Why because I kind of
- 18:33Speaker 1: feel like NAS needs Premier to jump in a new
- 18:38Speaker 1: bag of beats because most of the beats that Premier,
- 18:42Speaker 1: including the little teaser preview song and they did the
- 18:47Speaker 1: formula was what you expect from Premier today, right, and
- 18:52Speaker 1: we need Premier to do some beats that are unexpected.
- 18:56Speaker 1: We know Nas in the pocket coming off the hip
- 18:59Speaker 1: Boy joint features and all that. It really hasn't missed,
- 19:03Speaker 1: but we need better from Premier and from what I hear,
- 19:07Speaker 1: you get that, but you're gonna get it in twenty
- 19:10Speaker 1: twenty five. Now. I would love for it to be
- 19:14Speaker 1: a springtime pop out kind of thing. You know, you
- 19:18Speaker 1: hit us with a single in the springtime, and then
- 19:21Speaker 1: you hit us with an album eventually, but definitely, I
- 19:24Speaker 1: think this album's coming in twenty twenty five because even
- 19:28Speaker 1: though people have been waiting for years for this to happen,
- 19:31Speaker 1: I think again, when you look at what Common and
- 19:34Speaker 1: Pete Rock did, when you look at what l L
- 19:36Speaker 1: and q tit did you look at, especially with Snoop
- 19:39Speaker 1: and Doctor Dre did, It's like you have to generate
- 19:44Speaker 1: the feeling, right. Snoop and Doctor Dre decided to take
- 19:49Speaker 1: a route that was more so like iconic, like yo,
- 19:53Speaker 1: we're not this isn't nineteen ninety three, nineteen ninety two,
- 19:56Speaker 1: this is where we are now, and I loved it
- 19:59Speaker 1: for that. LLL and q tip felt like they blended
- 20:04Speaker 1: styles right, which you know from ll blended with the
- 20:07Speaker 1: production you know from q tip right at least q
- 20:11Speaker 1: tip now and then we're common in Pete Rock. The
- 20:14Speaker 1: goal was to capture the essence of back in the days,
- 20:18Speaker 1: and I think they did that. So DJ Premier and
- 20:21Speaker 1: NAS have to find an identity, and I think getting
- 20:28Speaker 1: something that sounds like everything they've done previously. Not to
- 20:32Speaker 1: a t, but that feeling of when you first heard
- 20:36Speaker 1: NAS is like when you first heard New York state
- 20:40Speaker 1: of Mind. You know what I'm saying, Like that they
- 20:44Speaker 1: need just these crazy DJ Premier beats with the NAS
- 20:49Speaker 1: you love in pocket, you know what I'm saying, rapping
- 20:53Speaker 1: about whatever. So I don't know. We'll see what we
- 20:56Speaker 1: get from it, but one can only hope. Freddy Gibbs
- 21:01Speaker 1: it mad Lib Montana, Freddy Gibbs and mad Lib or
- 21:06Speaker 1: two for two, two for two, this being the third
- 21:12Speaker 1: joint from them, I'm optimistic. There's no way, there's no
- 21:18Speaker 1: way this would be a miss in any way whatsoever.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Freddy Gibbs always puts it in the best work lyrically.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Mad Lib works with him very well, so I'm expecting
- 21:33Speaker 1: great things from that project. Something I was recently announced,
- 21:38Speaker 1: formerly known as Most Deaf, Yassin Bey and Alchemists have
- 21:42Speaker 1: a project coming real soon called Forensics. I ain't gonna
- 21:48Speaker 1: hold y'all. This is not highly anticipated for myself. It
- 21:54Speaker 1: would have been if it was nineteen ninety eight or
- 21:58Speaker 1: two thousand or some somewhere around that time. But nowadays
- 22:04Speaker 1: there are times where Alchemists can produce. I don't know
- 22:10Speaker 1: he can produce to well. I won't say this because
- 22:14Speaker 1: it sounds more like, well, that's what you should do, right.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Sometimes he can produce in a way where he's dumbing down,
- 22:22Speaker 1: if that makes sense, because the artist has a certain
- 22:27Speaker 1: flow and vibe. So sometimes the beats are just they're
- 22:33Speaker 1: just whatever, you know what I'm saying. They don't catch
- 22:36Speaker 1: your ear at all, right, They just kind of there,
- 22:40Speaker 1: and some people love that. But we know he could
- 22:43Speaker 1: do better because I think when he was producing with
- 22:45Speaker 1: hit Boy, his beats were way better. Was the Alchemists
- 22:47Speaker 1: who I knew. And then there's Yastin Bey, who on
- 22:52Speaker 1: the Black Star two album sound like the most disinterested
- 22:57Speaker 1: rap I ever heard in my life, not because what
- 23:00Speaker 1: he was saying, but how he was saying it. He
- 23:02Speaker 1: just didn't have a level of energy we were used
- 23:06Speaker 1: to hearing from him. He's almost mumbling with it, you
- 23:11Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, even though he's not. But you
- 23:14Speaker 1: go back and listen to his flows before there was
- 23:17Speaker 1: just a little bit more energy in his delivery. You
- 23:22Speaker 1: take that delivery that's disinterested and added to beats that
- 23:29Speaker 1: almost sound disinterested, you may have a very boring ass album.
- 23:35Speaker 1: But I am leaving hope up front just in case
- 23:44Speaker 1: it's what I hope it is. And most Death hasn't
- 23:50Speaker 1: done a solo project in the minute, so it might
- 23:52Speaker 1: be way better than I anticipated. So I don't know.
- 23:56Speaker 1: We'll see also next year that had been announced. Comment
- 24:01Speaker 1: and Pete Rock The Auditorium Volume two, I'm gonna tell
- 24:05Speaker 1: you right now, I'm just his hype for this as
- 24:08Speaker 1: part one, because to me, if you're gonna make a
- 24:11Speaker 1: part two, it better be better, or it better be
- 24:15Speaker 1: so close that you can't tell, like which one is good,
- 24:20Speaker 1: which one is the better album? Better be that because
- 24:25Speaker 1: remember Prime DJ Premier Royce the five nine first project
- 24:32Speaker 1: was like, damn, this is dope idea. I'm glad they
- 24:34Speaker 1: did this. The second one was like, eh, yeah, that's enough.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I don't want that to happen. I don't think it'll happen.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Pete Rock is just crazy with the beats. I think
- 24:44Speaker 1: that will get you in. But I think they probably
- 24:47Speaker 1: recorded so much Music initially that they have enough bangers
- 24:53Speaker 1: left to say Volume two and maybe Volume three, so
- 24:56Speaker 1: we'll see. Now here's a list of people who potentially
- 25:03Speaker 1: have albums coming out because something has been said, announced
- 25:07Speaker 1: or whatever, or just speculation that you know, yeah, it's
- 25:11Speaker 1: about time for them to drop Mob Deep. Havoc said
- 25:17Speaker 1: that him and Alchemists were working on a Mob Deep
- 25:22Speaker 1: album with original Prodigy vocals included. Posthumous albums don't always
- 25:29Speaker 1: do great. I think what Premier did with Gangstar was like,
- 25:36Speaker 1: do that sounds like Guru is a part of it?
- 25:40Speaker 1: I like it. Yeah, if you're gonna have a thousand
- 25:44Speaker 1: features and one Prodigy verse here and half a verse
- 25:48Speaker 1: there and no hooks and stuff like that like GM
- 25:54Speaker 1: as well, just stop or just make an EP of
- 25:56Speaker 1: the best of what you have and put that. I'll
- 26:00Speaker 1: be good with that as a final Mob Deep album.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Who else? Methad Man and Havoc. They shot a video
- 26:09Speaker 1: for a song, but the album never released this year,
- 26:13Speaker 1: so that's something to look forward to. I'm hoping Havoc
- 26:17Speaker 1: because methad Man's problem with his albums haven't always been
- 26:22Speaker 1: he lacks production. Because his production on most of his
- 26:25Speaker 1: albums isn't that bad over the years, but it's him
- 26:32Speaker 1: holding down an album lyrically by himself, and his features
- 26:38Speaker 1: always sound excellent, but then when you get to the album,
- 26:43Speaker 1: you always feel like there's not much here, you know,
- 26:47Speaker 1: in regards to substance. So hopefully working with Havoc, there's
- 26:52Speaker 1: some kind of magic there between the two that you
- 26:55Speaker 1: know makes for a better metha Man album than there's
- 26:59Speaker 1: been probably since meth Lab two. Me Flab three wasn't
- 27:06Speaker 1: that bad, but I think meth Lab two probably was
- 27:09Speaker 1: his best in years, so we'll see. Also, Gangstar Premier
- 27:16Speaker 1: kind of teased that there would be another Gangstar album
- 27:19Speaker 1: and then he released a song that to me was
- 27:21Speaker 1: just it was blah, Like if you told me, like
- 27:26Speaker 1: if the album's going to sound like that, say, hey,
- 27:29Speaker 1: these are records we worked on on during some of
- 27:32Speaker 1: your favorite albums, but they never made the cut. It's
- 27:36Speaker 1: Gangstar lost tapes. I'd be all in right. I think
- 27:40Speaker 1: Maine Source did that, like there was an original kind
- 27:43Speaker 1: of version of Breaking Adams. No, it wasn't that. It
- 27:49Speaker 1: was what would have been Maine Source's second album, and
- 27:54Speaker 1: I thought the way it was done was perfect because
- 27:57Speaker 1: it already places you within the context stuff when this
- 28:01Speaker 1: stuff was recorded. So that tells you why the beats
- 28:05Speaker 1: sound older, the music, the voices, whatever. Right, it gives
- 28:10Speaker 1: you the context around what you're hearing, and it kind
- 28:13Speaker 1: of prepares you for the sound. Right. So I kind
- 28:18Speaker 1: of want that for Gangstar because that first single I
- 28:20Speaker 1: was just kind of like, what is this? Is like
- 28:23Speaker 1: a Gangstar throwaway? Right? This doesn't feel like we put
- 28:29Speaker 1: some new stuff together for a new album like their
- 28:32Speaker 1: previous album, which I thought was pretty dope and should
- 28:36Speaker 1: have been the end of Gangstar's catalog. But who knows,
- 28:40Speaker 1: maybe Premiere got some joints Buster Rhymes, Buster, I think
- 28:46Speaker 1: around this time last year released I think it was
- 28:51Speaker 1: around this time last year, I can't remember, but this album, Blockbuster,
- 28:56Speaker 1: that he basically did a lot of records would have
- 29:00Speaker 1: a lot of younger artists. The sound was younger as
- 29:03Speaker 1: far as the type of production, and most people were
- 29:08Speaker 1: very disappointed, including myself. I'm all for him doing that,
- 29:12Speaker 1: but it was almost like he was playing their game
- 29:16Speaker 1: instead of collaborating for real, for real, Like, oh, I
- 29:20Speaker 1: made a beat that you know a day's youth would
- 29:24Speaker 1: be on, and then I'm going to rap on it
- 29:27Speaker 1: trying to, you know, it just felt like he was
- 29:29Speaker 1: pandering to a younger audience instead of truly collaborating. And
- 29:34Speaker 1: who knows, maybe that was their version of truly collaborating.
- 29:38Speaker 1: But it just didn't do well for Buster because his
- 29:42Speaker 1: fan base isn't younger kats, and they're not going to
- 29:46Speaker 1: jump on board just because you put, you know, somebody
- 29:49Speaker 1: they like now on your album. It's just better for
- 29:52Speaker 1: you to do you and bring them along, you know,
- 29:56Speaker 1: in that way, and then you induce people to what
- 29:59Speaker 1: you do. So Buss has already been teasing. He has
- 30:03Speaker 1: a song out already and I forget the name of
- 30:06Speaker 1: the album, but it's definitely dropping very soon. The Roots
- 30:13Speaker 1: are also rumored to have an album this year, so
- 30:16Speaker 1: is The Game. Apparently he's working on Documentary three. I
- 30:20Speaker 1: don't have any reason to believe it'll be whack, because,
- 30:23Speaker 1: even though I'm not the biggest fan of the first documentary,
- 30:26Speaker 1: which has more to do with name dropping in every
- 30:29Speaker 1: instance than it has to do with it being a
- 30:32Speaker 1: good album, Documentary two is slept on. It was a
- 30:37Speaker 1: double album, and when you make a double album and
- 30:41Speaker 1: both discs are crazy, I can't see game fumbeling with
- 30:48Speaker 1: this third one, so we'll see. Also rumored to release
- 30:53Speaker 1: a Griselda compilation, which hasn't happened in a minute. I
- 30:57Speaker 1: think maybe twenty nineteen was the last time we had
- 31:00Speaker 1: one of those. I wrote Gang Start twice Crazy fifty
- 31:07Speaker 1: was supposedly working on his final album for a long time,
- 31:11Speaker 1: so maybe we'll get that. No, we do not want
- 31:14Speaker 1: fifty in eminem I've never liked a record they collaborated
- 31:20Speaker 1: on together. I never like it always felt like two
- 31:23Speaker 1: different worlds colliding and it don't sound good. Okay, but
- 31:27Speaker 1: there's some people who might want it, so whatever. And lastly, Drake,
- 31:34Speaker 1: I'm curious to see what he drops. If it's a
- 31:38Speaker 1: bunch of you know, round twos and all of that
- 31:41Speaker 1: is it's just not it's going to fall flat. But
- 31:44Speaker 1: if it's just a bunch of good music, who knows,
- 31:48Speaker 1: he might the boy he might be back, not back
- 31:52Speaker 1: all the way, but back enough to be like, okay,
- 31:55Speaker 1: you know, let's two step and the rumored Kendrick got
- 31:59Speaker 1: enough album situation right. He dropped GNX in twenty twenty
- 32:04Speaker 1: four out of no where, and everybody, for the most part,
- 32:07Speaker 1: a lot of people seem to love it. He has
- 32:10Speaker 1: the super Bowl performance coming up, and chances are an
- 32:15Speaker 1: album Wive dropped before during with Kendrick. I'm thinking he
- 32:19Speaker 1: gonna leave the stage at the super Bowl and it's
- 32:22Speaker 1: gonna be an album on Apple Music and Spotify. Just
- 32:25Speaker 1: waiting because everybody gonna say what song was that that
- 32:29Speaker 1: he did? Like at the beginning that he opened with
- 32:32Speaker 1: what was that? And then the album drop and is
- 32:35Speaker 1: on it kind of like squabble up, right, So we'll see. Now.
- 32:41Speaker 1: To end the show off, I'm gonna do a couple
- 32:44Speaker 1: of wishes, a couple of wishes I have for twenty
- 32:47Speaker 1: twenty five, So let's start at the top with that.
- 32:52Speaker 1: I want to see albums from jay Z. I think
- 32:57Speaker 1: it's time, jay I think it's time to do one
- 33:01Speaker 1: last final This is it. I'm probably not gonna rap
- 33:08Speaker 1: or make an album anymore. I think people, especially now
- 33:14Speaker 1: want to hear from him and hear what he has
- 33:16Speaker 1: to say about certain things. And I kind of feel
- 33:19Speaker 1: like when you look at everything that's transpired from hip
- 33:24Speaker 1: hop turning fifty and people feeling like jay Z wasn't
- 33:29Speaker 1: really a part of all of the celebration, right, whether
- 33:32Speaker 1: he chose to or not, but he wasn't. The most
- 33:37Speaker 1: he did was his exhibit in Brooklyn that was all
- 33:39Speaker 1: about him, which is a Jay thing to do. But
- 33:44Speaker 1: I've been asking for an album since four for four,
- 33:47Speaker 1: so we'll see if we get that. I would love
- 33:50Speaker 1: a Wu Tang project. Man. I feel like they missed
- 33:52Speaker 1: the boat, you know, when they had the finale of
- 33:55Speaker 1: the show. I think a new album from the Wolves
- 33:58Speaker 1: should have dropped. Yeah, either we get that or we
- 34:02Speaker 1: get the forbidden album that's you know, been circulating and
- 34:07Speaker 1: here and then you know, something from the Woo. Speaking
- 34:10Speaker 1: of the Wou, I want Supreme clientele too, that ghost
- 34:15Speaker 1: has been talking about for years, and especially I want
- 34:19Speaker 1: only Built for Cuban Links three because the thing is
- 34:22Speaker 1: is not many people are talking about it. But during
- 34:26Speaker 1: the lockdown and an interview, what I believe was with
- 34:32Speaker 1: it was either with the Breakfast Club or it was
- 34:35Speaker 1: Hot ninety seven with e Bro, But I feel like
- 34:38Speaker 1: it was the Breakfast Club. Ray Kwan said it himself,
- 34:44Speaker 1: it's time to complete the trilogy we're working on. Only
- 34:49Speaker 1: Built for Cuban Links three that was that would be
- 34:54Speaker 1: close to five years now since he said that, So
- 34:58Speaker 1: hopefully in twenty twenty five, we get that I'd like
- 35:01Speaker 1: another Little Brother album. Why not? You know. I like
- 35:05Speaker 1: the fact that they came back. You know, they had
- 35:08Speaker 1: they had a documentary and all of that. But the
- 35:10Speaker 1: album that they dropped was good, but it still kind
- 35:14Speaker 1: of felt like they were they were putting the training
- 35:17Speaker 1: not the training wheels, but they were getting back on
- 35:19Speaker 1: a horse whatever that means, you know what I'm saying.
- 35:22Speaker 1: It didn't feel like prime Little Brother, so to speak.
- 35:30Speaker 1: It just felt like, oh, Little Brother's back. But I
- 35:33Speaker 1: kind of wanted more. So hopefully they drop an album.
- 35:36Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind a new album from Rick Ross. I
- 35:39Speaker 1: also wouldn't mind Easy Taking one more crack at it.
- 35:44Speaker 1: I wasn't the biggest fan of Do or Die Too,
- 35:46Speaker 1: but it wasn't terrible. I was highly anticipating his album
- 35:52Speaker 1: with Buck Wow, totally produced by Buck Wow, and I
- 35:56Speaker 1: was highly disappointed, mainly because of the beats. And I
- 36:00Speaker 1: feel like with a Z he needs a specific style
- 36:04Speaker 1: of beats that matches with his lyrics because depending on
- 36:10Speaker 1: the type of beat, like when I say, okay, this
- 36:13Speaker 1: is what a Z needs real quick, as needs what
- 36:18Speaker 1: Rick Ross has made a career off of and I'm
- 36:21Speaker 1: talking about the lavish, lush sounding tracks. You think about
- 36:26Speaker 1: songs like the Flies with nas As floating on that
- 36:30Speaker 1: type of beat. You think about sugar Hill, right, floating
- 36:34Speaker 1: on that type of beat. Life's a bitch, right as
- 36:40Speaker 1: needs songs that match his delivery, his style, his personality,
- 36:46Speaker 1: and I feel like you can't just give him anything
- 36:48Speaker 1: and everything because he sounds off and it sounds wag
- 36:52Speaker 1: and it makes it takes away from his lyrics. So
- 36:56Speaker 1: I feel like one more album from him, maybe just
- 37:00Speaker 1: league maybe you know what I'm saying, Like somebody who
- 37:03Speaker 1: can create that soundscape for him, and I think it
- 37:08Speaker 1: would come out super dope and I think a lot
- 37:10Speaker 1: of people would love it. So and lastly, Doche, I
- 37:18Speaker 1: would like it. I would like an album from Doche.
- 37:21Speaker 1: I mean Alligators Bites Never Heal was basically a mixtape
- 37:27Speaker 1: but still made everybody's That's projects of not everybody's but
- 37:31Speaker 1: some people minds projects of the year, right, So there
- 37:37Speaker 1: was that. Now his his three things that I would
- 37:47Speaker 1: like to see happen in twenty twenty five. Number one,
- 37:55Speaker 1: I need all my favorites to be more calculated with
- 38:00Speaker 1: their releases and as examples I'm saying Fanny de Butcher, Conway,
- 38:07Speaker 1: The Machine, and Ransom, I feel like it's dope to
- 38:11Speaker 1: get multiple projects from them within a year. But what
- 38:16Speaker 1: I don't like is that sometimes they feel like we're
- 38:20Speaker 1: just getting projects right. Some are better than others when
- 38:27Speaker 1: you look at the totality of what's released. Like let's
- 38:30Speaker 1: use Ransom for example. I like mostly everything I heard
- 38:36Speaker 1: from him this year. I didn't get to hear the
- 38:38Speaker 1: joint that was only on his on even dot com,
- 38:42Speaker 1: but from what he released ep wise and then the
- 38:46Speaker 1: collaborative album with Conway, I think you could have just
- 38:50Speaker 1: made a very dope album with all of it. To me,
- 38:54Speaker 1: that would have put it in the you know, best
- 38:59Speaker 1: of the year category in most cases, right, because how
- 39:02Speaker 1: can you have a Ransom and Conway album drop? And
- 39:07Speaker 1: when I look at most of these best of twenty
- 39:10Speaker 1: twenty fours, I don't even see it. You know, it's crazy.
- 39:14Speaker 1: So I would want more of that, right, Like I
- 39:18Speaker 1: felt like with Benny the Butcher, right, even though I
- 39:21Speaker 1: loved Everybody Can't Go, towards the end of the album,
- 39:25Speaker 1: it starts to taper off. But he released Summertime Butch
- 39:30Speaker 1: that has some joints on it. You could have took
- 39:31Speaker 1: some of those, we could joints off the depth gen
- 39:34Speaker 1: release and put some of the higher points of Summertime
- 39:37Speaker 1: butch on there, like I just need them. And the
- 39:41Speaker 1: same thing with Conway. Right, Conway released probably three projects
- 39:45Speaker 1: this year. Slat Face Killer didn't really do anything even
- 39:49Speaker 1: though it had some joints on there. Again, he had
- 39:52Speaker 1: the project with Ransom, he had another project in between,
- 39:55Speaker 1: I believe, I just can't remember, But that's what I mean,
- 40:00Speaker 1: Like instead of a project that's you almost had it,
- 40:05Speaker 1: or man, I wish there was a little bit more,
- 40:08Speaker 1: and then you keep releasing different projects throughout the year.
- 40:11Speaker 1: I know what it does financially, you know what I'm saying.
- 40:14Speaker 1: But at the same time, I just think one project
- 40:19Speaker 1: or two, write an EP and an album that are
- 40:23Speaker 1: the best of the best that you're going to give
- 40:25Speaker 1: people for this year. It resonates more with people, like
- 40:30Speaker 1: if you're looking for people to spend the going to
- 40:33Speaker 1: spend more because of the simple fact you know you're
- 40:36Speaker 1: just giving them high quality hip hop and it's not piecemeal.
- 40:42Speaker 1: So second thing I'd like to see happen no more
- 40:45Speaker 1: around twos. Drake versus Kendrick. Kendrick versus Drake is over.
- 40:52Speaker 1: As far as I'm concerned. I don't want to hear
- 40:55Speaker 1: no more shots subliminals from either right. I just want
- 41:02Speaker 1: them to get back to the music. The battle happened,
- 41:05Speaker 1: it was a great time in hip hop, but it's over.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Hendrick one, Drake lost. It doesn't take anything away from
- 41:15Speaker 1: Drake losing when he was fighting the battle. Whereas J
- 41:20Speaker 1: Cole was like, I'm out. I don't care what happens.
- 41:22Speaker 1: I'm out. Do let me out right. So I don't
- 41:29Speaker 1: even want it. I don't even want Drake, don't even
- 41:32Speaker 1: do it. Don't do it, man, don't come out with
- 41:34Speaker 1: a bunch of disrecords. Don't come out tooting your lips
- 41:38Speaker 1: and trying to look tough and saying things and trying
- 41:41Speaker 1: to pull the wool up. It was boxed the whole time,
- 41:44Speaker 1: like no, we don't believe you. You need more people
- 41:47Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five. Move on, both of y'all, Okay,
- 41:52Speaker 1: break it out. That's what I'm saying. No more round twos,
- 41:56Speaker 1: no more ramps. I don't want to see any other
- 42:00Speaker 1: battles either, unless it's that compelling. But I'm looking at you,
- 42:05Speaker 1: Lord Jamar and Fat Joe, stay away from the booth.
- 42:08Speaker 1: I don't care what you guys got to say about
- 42:10Speaker 1: each other. I just kind of feel like dope to
- 42:15Speaker 1: get that battle. The way it played out felt calculated
- 42:19Speaker 1: but also random, and it was more exciting than we
- 42:23Speaker 1: could have anticipated. So I don't need anybody going to
- 42:27Speaker 1: manufacture a new battle or rekindle a battle that bent over. Okay,
- 42:34Speaker 1: So there's that. And lastly, I just want to see
- 42:39Speaker 1: more great releases from old school artists, right legends in
- 42:46Speaker 1: the game. Great releases. Not I released an album rock Him,
- 42:52Speaker 1: but great albums, you know what I'm saying, where you
- 42:55Speaker 1: could tell the lyrics, the sound, the quality of the sound,
- 43:00Speaker 1: the beats, the concepts lyrically and sonically, the album cover right, Like,
- 43:08Speaker 1: just make dope music again, don't make music to say
- 43:12Speaker 1: the legend you know has new music out and the
- 43:16Speaker 1: music is weak. Like, no, if rock Him is coming
- 43:21Speaker 1: back out with an album when she said he would,
- 43:24Speaker 1: I need him to be welcome home. I need dudes
- 43:28Speaker 1: with production that's crazy to lace him right. Don't charge
- 43:36Speaker 1: this man a bunch of money's rock Cam, because if
- 43:38Speaker 1: the brother was going tomorrow, then all these dudes would
- 43:42Speaker 1: be like, Yo, you know what Rockim was. We'll give
- 43:44Speaker 1: him some fire beats. Man, give rock him some beats. Okay,
- 43:48Speaker 1: Row we know you can make beats, but get away
- 43:50Speaker 1: from that machine. We need you to spit okay, And
- 43:54Speaker 1: I need a nas and rock him definitive collaboration on
- 43:59Speaker 1: this album, probably produced by Premier or somebody crazy like
- 44:03Speaker 1: not Okay or Bank. Somebody gonna make something that sounds monumental.
- 44:10Speaker 1: But I just want to see more of that because
- 44:12Speaker 1: when you think about what we said about l L
- 44:15Speaker 1: and Common and Snoop and Redmend, I need y'all to
- 44:23Speaker 1: do that. If you dropping an album, if you old school,
- 44:26Speaker 1: I don't care if it's KR orres one click Rick
- 44:30Speaker 1: ice Cube, I know you dropped an album, but Nope,
- 44:33Speaker 1: not that one. But you know the Buster's coming out,
- 44:39Speaker 1: like we need the older, the legends, the the guys
- 44:46Speaker 1: who started the game, the guys who pushed the game forward.
- 44:49Speaker 1: We need quality hip hop coming out in twenty twenty five.
- 44:54Speaker 1: And I think between the guys I mentioned, they gave
- 44:58Speaker 1: everybody enough g on work to say this is how
- 45:02Speaker 1: you make music now when you are legend, like in
- 45:07Speaker 1: the nineties, you know what I'm saying, or the eighties
- 45:10Speaker 1: or whatever. Not everybody can do that, but I think
- 45:15Speaker 1: though it all takes motivation and inspiration. That's all it takes,
- 45:20Speaker 1: to be honest, to tap back into that, even if
- 45:23Speaker 1: it's just one time, to tap back into who you
- 45:26Speaker 1: used to be. Also, I wouldn't mind an EPMD album
- 45:31Speaker 1: like I think it could be crazy. I think it
- 45:34Speaker 1: could be. So there you have it. This has been
- 45:38Speaker 1: the twenty twenty five previous show for Hip Hop Now Podcasts.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Please remember this podcast is available in audio form also
- 45:47Speaker 1: on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and everywhere you get your podcasts.

- 45:59Speaker 1: and we're gonna keep growing this channel. Got a lot
