- 0:00SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: we've heard the latest thing about AI becoming the new shiny object in
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: the marketplace.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Everybody seems to be talking about it.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: But you know, before we called it AI, it was called digital transformation.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: HR recruiters used it.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Sales teams used it.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Consultants built entire careers around it.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: But these days, AI...
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Has taken center stage.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: But you know,
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: the promise of digital transformation and what we now call AI hasn't really changed
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: because the promise was transformation and it still is.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: So here's the question for our coffee today.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Are we confusing better tools with real transformation?
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie,
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: where a proverb a day keeps stinking thinking away.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: I'm Ernie Lansford,
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: and it's my desire to help you connect biblical wisdom
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: to everyday marketplace decisions,
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: allowing you to build relationships that outlast any transactions.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: We do our best to bring timeless biblical truth into the marketplace
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: where influence is real Choices are constant,
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: and frankly, relationships matter more than results.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Well, today we are in Proverbs 1,
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: and I've chosen Scripture verse 5 from the Message Translation.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Quote, There's something here also for seasoned men and women,
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: still a thing or two for the experienced to learn,
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: This is Proverbs 1, verse 5 from the Message Translation.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: before AI became a staple in our daily chats and before what seems like 75 to 80%
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: of all LinkedIn posts are focused on it,
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: there was another phrase that reigned in business talk.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: And it was simply called DT or digital transformation.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I remember it was everywhere.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Recruiters used digital tools like optical character recognition
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: and keyword matching to find better candidates.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And sales teams leveraged it to generate quality leads.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: They called it CRM.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: And marketers optimized that customer's journey with it.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: It was called SEO.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: You know, everyone promised that.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: That the next digital innovation would reshape business and culture and I guess life itself.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: And today,
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: AI has mostly taken that spotlight,
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: certainly overshadowing the old previously known DT or digital transformation.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Yet, if we're brutally honest with ourselves,
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: the language has shifted more than the core promise.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: The essence remains transformation.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: And I find that word fascinating.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Frankly, it took me years to realize people don't buy products just because they want them.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: They buy because they believe the product will enable them to do something better,
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: have better health, greater efficiency, more profits or influence.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Whether it's a musician choosing a custom shop guitar to Enhance their talent
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: or me buying a plug-in to make my voice sound like the baritone sax in Tower
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: of Power.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's transformation.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: That's the transformation that all of us seek.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: It's more than just the product.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: And in reality,
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: companies aren't selling the product as much as they're selling the transformation
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: that it enables.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: In 60 plus years in business,
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: I've learned external tools can boost performance, but it can't change character.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Technology increases speed,
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: improves efficiency,
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: and certainly offers real-time data,
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: you know, telemetry dashboards, but it can't make us wiser.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: And wisdom comes from a deeper place, frankly.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: You know, data, telemetry, shows us what's happening.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Wisdom Helps us understand why,
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: which then prompts us to engage in internal calibration,
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: which reveals what really needs to change.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: In Proverbs 1.5,
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: and the message captures this well, quote,
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: there's something here also for seasoned men and women,
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: still a thing or two for the experience to learn.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this verse humbles me.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: At nearly 78,
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: I've learned that experience is valuable but risky if it leads me
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: to think there's nothing new to learn.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Have you met someone who has stopped being teachable?
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: success and titles and influence or wealth can make us stop listening,
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: make us stop asking questions, and make us stop seeking corrections.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: That's an internal drift, and it can happen gradually in the form of pride and experience.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: You know, all of that, or what we call success, actually could cause that drift.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: And that's why I believe Solomon emphasizes the need for fresh wisdom,
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: real wisdom that probes and reveals blind spots, not recycled cliches or fluffed.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: And that's what the concept of
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: an upcoming book titled Marketplace Proverbs Volume 7,
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Telemetry and Internal Calibration.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: You know, telemetry shows what's beneath the surface.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: And internal calibration helps us return to our standards.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: But you know, none of it works if we ignore the warning signs.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: Think of a car dashboard.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: You know, those warning lights are gifts.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: They aren't annoyances.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: They're not there to condemn us.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: They're there to alert us before small problems become catastrophic failures.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: You know, there's many internal warning lights too, I feel.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Cynicism, fatigue, loss of joy, irritability.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: What about prayerlessness, relational distance?
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: In adopting at times a transactional mindset, those are all signals.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Instead of pausing for calibration,
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: we often keep driving,
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: ignoring that check engine light,
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: and the small issues become then a serious drift or serious problem.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: And that's why I wrote the book or I'm working on the book.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: And frankly, that's why we have the podcast.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Not to add noise or impress, but to offer free or fresh wisdom.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: To help us notice the warning lights.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: To stay teachable and recalibrate before damage occurs.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: You know, true transformation doesn't start with better software or smarter dashboards.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: It begins when wisdom reaches the heart,
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: and that's where meaningful change happens and where God works most deeply
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: from my perspective.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Today's Customer Success Code, quote,
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: the most dangerous drift in the marketplace is not losing data,
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: it's losing our teachability.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Let's pray.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: Lord, O Lord Godfather, Jesus,
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: please keep my heart teachable Help me never to confuse experience with wisdom
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: or information with discernment.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Please give me fresh eyes to see warning lights before drift becomes damage.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Through your word and your spirit, continually recalibrate my heart, mind, and motives.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: In Jesus' name, amen.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Well, thank you for joining me on this episode of Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: If this episode has been meaningful to you or adding significance to you,
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: please consider sharing it.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: That's how we influence the marketplace for God.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: We truly do.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: And remember, chasing personal success is temporal.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: Adding significance to others is infinite.
