- 0:00Welcome to the Inside Integration podcast.
- 0:01My name is Chris. I am joined, as usual, by my
- 0:04partner Jason. What is up, everybody?
- 0:07We are. We're we're we're back with you
- 0:09here, kicking around some ideas. And no more guest stars for a
- 0:14while. You know Sean, and he's a nice
- 0:17guy and all, but you know, I mean, he's not the Real McCoy,
- 0:20right? I mean, you know who, you know
- 0:22who the, you know who the big dog is.
- 0:24That's that's that's right in like the contract rider is that
- 0:27it's got to be the beard has to be approaching or or surpassing
- 0:32your own so. Yeah, well.
- 0:35Sorry, Mike DeMarco. Yeah.
- 0:36Oh, man, I mean, you could say that grass doesn't grow on
- 0:40steel, but I mean, you know, guys, I mean.
- 0:45Yeah, so we're we're kind of we're we're kicking around some
- 0:48news stories here and big we've got a big acquisition in in our
- 0:52world here, Barco involved and Focal involved and yeah man, you
- 0:58know, if you haven't heard it, Jade, why don't you, why don't
- 1:02you enlighten us? Because yeah, not on my.
- 1:04Radar, right, yeah. So it's kind of, I mean, outside
- 1:08of probably the AV space, there's not a whole lot of
- 1:11awareness I would say around this acquisition or the this
- 1:14announcement. But yeah, when I guess two weeks
- 1:18ago now, whenever I was in Nashville, they announced that
- 1:23Barco, the parent company for Barco is Barco.
- 1:27They're purchasing 100% of the shares of Verben Audio.
- 1:31So Verben Audio is just a holding company that owns the
- 1:35name brands of name Audio and Focal.
- 1:38So pretty, shall we say high end a bit, yeah, I just just you
- 1:45know kind of kind of the fancy toys and it's not for a small
- 1:50sum like the rumored amount is somewhere between 150 and $160
- 1:54million. So in the grand scheme of things
- 1:58in terms of brand acquisitions and stuff like that, it's not a
- 2:02big number, the relative terms, but what Barco is going to get
- 2:07access to you as a result of that and kind of where it
- 2:12repositions, sorry, all three of those name brands.
- 2:16Sure. I think is really interesting.
- 2:19You know, I think there's a a lot to kick around about kind of
- 2:22how what that could mean. That's for for everybody.
- 2:26For yeah, for sure. And even just on its face, like,
- 2:29you know, Barco's brand, it's synonymous with video and, and
- 2:31projection in particular, and, you know, a couple other, you
- 2:34know, video walls now and and that kind of thing.
- 2:36But yeah, that's a that's a big branch off into into audio.
- 2:41You know, like here's very interesting times.
- 2:46Right. Well, it's AI mean, you know, we
- 2:48don't know what's going on in the background, but you know, is
- 2:51there a professional audio play there?
- 2:53Is there a integrated OEM play there?
- 2:58Like obviously Focal is a OEM brand for automotive, so that's
- 3:04immediately attractive for a company like Barcode to think,
- 3:06OK, sure. What else can we scrape onto our
- 3:09island here or what can we put together to make our island
- 3:13stick out of the water a little bit higher than it was?
- 3:15Just as a video solutions and an office kind of click share
- 3:20manufacturer, you know? Well, and it it it kind of it
- 3:24kind of works in line, you know, with some previous acquisitions
- 3:26like you know, Macintosh, right, like here's, you know, the
- 3:29Macintosh line, here's where in cars were in OEMs, right, like
- 3:34now you know what is that? That's Harmon Luxury Group.
- 3:37Got those guys. Or no, it's Bose.
- 3:39Bose that was Yeah. So Bose is the people that
- 3:42bought Macintosh and bought Sonas father.
- 3:44So you know, for for them, I think that acquisition means
- 3:49that you maintain those two product lines.
- 3:51And again, this is purely my opinion.
- 3:54Yeah, I have no insider insight. Run a disclaimer.
- 3:57Yeah, let's run the disclaimer Now.
- 3:59This is purely my opinion, my observation, but when you look
- 4:02at an, you look at what Bose is doing with Macintosh, they have
- 4:07a few different levers there to pull.
- 4:08You've got their name, brand of Bose, whatever that looks like
- 4:11now it's not speakers anymore, it's headphones and maybe car
- 4:15audio, I'm not sure exactly. It's it's a it's a badge on the
- 4:19door of a Volvo or. Or it's a clock radio or, or a
- 4:23wave room system or whatever. Whatever starts.
- 4:28Yeah. And then, you know, Macintosh is
- 4:31pretty much the, you know, the bizarro world of of all of that,
- 4:35right? You've got a large form factor,
- 4:37big amplifier speakers, all of that.
- 4:40So if you're a Bose, you buy a brand like that to maintain what
- 4:45that is Santos Farber with the speakers, Macintosh with the
- 4:47amplifiers and the and the electronics so that you can
- 4:51maintain that brand awareness so that when you OEM blue lights
- 4:56into the dashboard of a Honda Accord or something like that.
- 5:00Do you cheap wagoneer? Yeah, what?
- 5:02Whatever it is, you draw that mental association as a customer
- 5:05and end user and you go, Oh yeah, this has got the blue
- 5:07lights on it. That's really fucking cool.
- 5:09And the gauges, yeah. Sure.
- 5:11Yeah, of course. So then you flip that.
- 5:13So with those same optics, you look at the deal for Barco and
- 5:17you go, well, you know Focal has pretty serious home theater
- 5:21pedigree and name is no slouch when it comes to electronics.
- 5:27So we've got video covered. Now you're a different entity
- 5:32that is really buoyed in high end home theatre, like really,
- 5:39really well buoyed there and also positioned to branch out
- 5:42into professional audio, also positioned to branch out into
- 5:46DVLED walls with name branded audio.
- 5:50And of course we can do OEM stuff with RV's or cars.
- 5:55Or I mean, imagine the the full Cal Name Barco home theater
- 5:59experience on the side of your RV Pretty fucking dope.
- 6:04Not my, not my first thought when I think RV's, but yeah.
- 6:07Hey, you know what, I'm going to the races.
- 6:09I'm not even going to look at the fucking cars.
- 6:11I'm going to sit over here and watch it on the side of my
- 6:18Prevost motor coach or or something like that, you know?
- 6:22Yeah, yeah, sure. And and that's, I mean that that
- 6:26really is, you know, it's, it's an identification of a of a
- 6:29market that's that's out there. And, you know, you've got a lot
- 6:34of very affluent seniors who, you know, might be at the point
- 6:37where they're going to crisscross the country in an RV
- 6:40like the song. And you know, was that fastball
- 6:44made that? Or like a failed marketing
- 6:46attempt that you and I tried to pull off one time, one of the
- 6:48two, I think. We could still do that.
- 6:50We can still do. A sticker of me driving a
- 6:53borrowed RV full of stereo equipment across the lands.
- 6:57We were going to not to let. Let's derail this.
- 7:00Let's let's run this one. It's our podcast.
- 7:02We could do whatever. Yeah, there was a there was the
- 7:05the concept of an idea back in the day that me and Jason were
- 7:09going to borrow our boss's RV and, you know, really make some
- 7:13of those profits work for us particularly.
- 7:15And we're going to, absolutely. You know, we're going to cruise
- 7:18around and, you know, do demos and film content and do all
- 7:21kinds of stuff and that just never, never kind of happened.
- 7:24I can't figure out why it. Never really materialized in the
- 7:27way that either of us hoped that it would.
- 7:29We did end up high fiving an elk and I think it's about as close
- 7:32As for me. It's true, it's true.
- 7:35I saw I saw the sights of Western Washington and the
- 7:38Tri-cities area, and that was the extent of the RV trip.
- 7:42Yeah, all. And we did get to go to Spokane
- 7:45for the for the food festival or whatever that was.
- 7:48That's. True, that is, yeah, yeah, the
- 7:51festival there. And I mean, the only thing I
- 7:53remember about Spokane is Frank's.
- 7:55Frank's fucking Diner. Frank's Diner, No.
- 7:58That's what's up so so to steer us back onto the highway of our
- 8:03podcast here now that we've gotten off this little on ramp
- 8:06and then drove around on the gas station and came out.
- 8:09You know, I think about this acquisition for a few different
- 8:13reasons. Now people will go, why would
- 8:16you as a Barco want to buy a brand like Focal or name like
- 8:21other than the things we've illustrated, like what is the
- 8:24the impetus? Yeah.
- 8:25What's the business case for it? Right?
- 8:27Where's your ROI? And I think, you know, as we,
- 8:31you know, they kind of mentioned before like they've got to do
- 8:34something. They're it's, they're not going
- 8:36to grow at the rates that these companies want to grow at by
- 8:41just plodding along doing 5 or 10% or what, 3% growth or 5% or
- 8:46whatever that number is, right? They're just not going to be
- 8:50able to scale in a way that's ideally profitable over time
- 8:55when you can write a check for something and go, oh shit, well,
- 8:58now we're. Now we're in this business. 40%
- 9:01bigger. We're 30% bigger.
- 9:03You know, we wrote a check for 150 million bucks.
- 9:05What do we get? Well, in six years we'll have
- 9:09done, you know, $500 million or whatever that number looks like
- 9:13or OK, well, all of a sudden that math mass, right?
- 9:16Like I don't, I don't know if that's what the, I don't know if
- 9:19that's what the the numbers really are by any stretch of the
- 9:22imagination. That was pure supposition, but.
- 9:24Yeah, sure. I just, you go, you know why?
- 9:28And I think you've got to do something because otherwise you
- 9:32were going to get acquired. You know, if you're not the
- 9:34snake eating little snakes, you're the snake getting eaten.
- 9:37I think that's true. I mean that that is it's kind of
- 9:40the end result of, you know, where we're where we're sort of
- 9:42going here, right? Like there's, there's definitely
- 9:44a trend of, you know, Bose Macintosh, I mean, hell, AV Pro
- 9:48and RTI and audio control before that right now, you know, Barco
- 9:53and Focal and, and name there's, you know, we're, we're hitting,
- 9:58we're hitting all the consolidation notes here.
- 10:00Sure. Well.
- 10:01What are we getting into right? Now all of a sudden you actually
- 10:04are at home theater solution in a box.
- 10:08Think about like, I just kind of just had that realization in my
- 10:10head like, oh shit. Like JBL synthesis, not to name
- 10:14anybody specifically or Wisdom or or any of those other guys.
- 10:18Like they have to rely on a different solution for the
- 10:21picture to come up on the screen.
- 10:24Marco wouldn't need to do that with locale.
- 10:26No, it's true and you can definitely there is certainly
- 10:29appeal and it's applicable to our industry specifically,
- 10:32right. There's definitely an appeal to
- 10:36getting things that are matched the same.
- 10:39Hey, if you're doing a big ass screen, well, you should do this
- 10:43for for audio, right? Like, you know, Sony has kind of
- 10:45done that for years and years, right?
- 10:47Like you've got a Sony TV, you've got a Sony stack of
- 10:49equipment, Sony AVR, you know, through and through.
- 10:53It's, it's one brand, you know, maybe it's one nectar ring, you
- 10:56know, maybe that's your, you know what I'm saying like to, to
- 10:59use an integrator analogy here 1.
- 11:01Nectar ring, you know. I mean, I equate it to, you
- 11:05know, to integrators who are out there who are again, getting
- 11:08into, and we talk about this at length, right?
- 11:09They they're getting into to shades and they're getting into
- 11:12lighting and they're getting into more technology.
- 11:14So when a home owner goes to a contractor, yeah, it's one
- 11:18nectar ring for, you know, for the TV's, for the technology,
- 11:22for the network, for the shades, for the lights, for, you know,
- 11:25all that stuff. There's there's an appeal there,
- 11:28you know, and, and people, you know, if if you're making
- 11:31somebody's decision a little bit easier by, you know,
- 11:34consolidating that and your, you know, branding is good and
- 11:37everybody you know, yeah, all of our stuff works the same because
- 11:40it's one name on the box. Yeah, I can see why that would
- 11:43be appeal. Maybe maybe that's not the
- 11:45appeal in custom, but you know, in spaces that Barco plays, you
- 11:51know, they play a lot in the specifier game and, you know, a
- 11:54lot in the commercial game where, OK, you know, you might
- 11:56have a specifier who that's an attractive thing.
- 11:59You know, it's not as it's not like a home owner, you know,
- 12:03picking out this from here and this from here and this from
- 12:06here. It's more of a specifier.
- 12:08Like, OK, I need to, you know, I need to specify a job for, you
- 12:11know, 8 conference rooms for multi purpose, whatever.
- 12:14I'm going to have Barco everywhere.
- 12:16Well, OK, you know, focal or name they have, you know, maybe
- 12:20they'll slap those names on something that's more of a fit
- 12:24for the rest of their line or just home theater, you know,
- 12:27synthesis. Same.
- 12:29Same thought, right? I I could think of, you know,
- 12:31name doesn't apparently doesn't, you know, doesn't currently
- 12:35offer a surround sound processor, but I know they
- 12:38currently offer some pretty high current amplifiers and some
- 12:40solutions like that. So I don't think it's too big of
- 12:43a stretch to say they might be able to spin up some kind of
- 12:47processor and make a, you know, a focal name home theater
- 12:52solution that includes electronics.
- 12:54That includes either a Barcal wall or a, you know, a yard
- 12:57projector or the, you know, Valhalla or whatever they're
- 13:01called sure this month, you know, whatever Nordic God we're
- 13:06we're Co branding with right, You know, I mean, do they have
- 13:10to pay? You know, do they have to pay
- 13:12Baffamet a licensing fee or like what?
- 13:14I don't know how that. Works is Baffamet.
- 13:16I don't think Baffamet's. A.
- 13:17A model. Worse.
- 13:18No, I didn't I. Don't know Azra.
- 13:20No, no no, sorry. I'm thinking of the Eldridge
- 13:23Cuties, My bad. I think, I mean, I think they
- 13:27should just pull a big switcheroo and maybe, you know,
- 13:29maybe it'd be pretty funny if Barco just started naming their,
- 13:32you know, naming their stuff instead of after, you know,
- 13:35Norse gods, maybe just Vikings players, right?
- 13:37Like players for the Minnesota Vikings.
- 13:40This is the Warren Moon. That's the only one I could
- 13:43think of. But you're sure.
- 13:46Yeah. This is the Warren Moon video
- 13:48wall, right? Like.
- 13:49Yeah, I mean, it's this is the the Rick Jawarski, the
- 13:55clothesline model where he gets his head ripped off right as two
- 14:00tall Jones the. Fran Targanton Yeah, look at
- 14:03that. 22 bikers I got. Two bikers now there we go.
- 14:06Yeah. Anywho, I'm just hey man, these
- 14:10marketing ideas are free. Yeah, right.
- 14:12Just just, you know, we give away the gold on the show.
- 14:15It's that's what we do. It's what we do that's.
- 14:18How we that's how we don't get ourselves sued because anybody
- 14:21would look at the content of this show and be like.
- 14:23Yeah, you guys are full of shit. It's for sure.
- 14:25Yeah, that's, that's absolutely the case.
- 14:27Yeah, I think. Yeah.
- 14:30I mean, I, you know, ripples through the industry.
- 14:33I've I've read some of the press about this and I was like, yeah,
- 14:35I think that might be a bit of a stretch.
- 14:38You know, like I, I don't know if ripples through the industry
- 14:41is exactly the the way I would position this acquisition or
- 14:46this announcement. Yeah, absolutely you.
- 14:48Know in terms of impact, again, you know, Sony entering A
- 14:51partnership with TCL, definitely more of an impact, right?
- 14:53Like just because that slice is way bigger, like you're not,
- 14:57you're not going to Best Buy and see Embarco or Focal or name,
- 15:01right? Yeah, you didn't have an under
- 15:02cabinet focal TV right in your kitchen.
- 15:08Yeah, exactly the the absolute, you know, plebes of this
- 15:11industry, right? Like the the sure, the filthy
- 15:14casuals of. Consumer.
- 15:16Electronics don't know anything about.
- 15:18I'll take a set of focals if you got them.
- 15:20No questions. Sign me up brother.
- 15:23Throw them out of bed. For no way, no, I mean.
- 15:26So maybe some of the fit and finishes aren't it wouldn't be
- 15:29first on my list, but I mean, I sold some Scally utopias back in
- 15:33the day and I mean, that was that was a good day.
- 15:36It's. It's it's got a place.
- 15:38I mean really there are, you know, there there is much art as
- 15:40they are technical prowess and not trying to turn this into a
- 15:43folk out commercial. No, no, no, but.
- 15:45They sound amazing and they look amazing, right?
- 15:47That's yeah, dude, completely. Ferrari red to match your
- 15:53Ferrari outside that you pulled up in?
- 15:54Sure, we can do that. Yeah, it's the 15% up charge.
- 15:57OK, cool. Thank you.
- 15:59No problem. Can I get these in wenge?
- 16:00Yeah, sure. Wenge, you are a full cow man.
- 16:04What's specific? You know?
- 16:07Honestly it's more of a I'm more of a BMW guy cuz BMW was always
- 16:11wenge was always a big BMW thing.
- 16:13You always wanted to. If you were selling B dubs, you
- 16:16had to, if you could sell a set of Wenge speakers to a client,
- 16:20you were you were doing pretty good.
- 16:21That was, you know, you, you talked them into that one for
- 16:24sure. But I thought they were wenge
- 16:26for at least three or four years before I figured that out.
- 16:28So. I had an old timer correct me on
- 16:31that one. I was, I was here's me a 24 year
- 16:35old idiot. Yeah, Nah, these wenge speakers
- 16:38are awesome. The guy was like, wait, what did
- 16:40you just call them? And like, I just just went cold.
- 16:43It was like. Flop sweat.
- 16:45Yeah, and I had to repeat it and which really didn't help my self
- 16:49esteem at that point. No, no, no, listen, it's it's
- 16:51Wenge. It's it's a type of wood because
- 16:54I'm thinking like it's some arbitrary name.
- 16:56It's like, Nope, 24 years old. I don't know wood, you know.
- 16:59Nothing. Yeah, what the fuck do I know?
- 17:01It's Jack shit. I'm an adult now and.
- 17:05Right, and of course it was you know, it was that dude who's
- 17:07been doing this for a billion freaking years has, you know,
- 17:10has nothing to let me let me just extol upon Frank for a
- 17:13moment. It was, you know, this is that
- 17:16guy that's got nothing else going on in life other than to
- 17:19correct a 24 year old on. To be pedantic, with a 24 year
- 17:23old, a bubble wenge, yeah cool. Same guy, you know?
- 17:27Same guy who cable elevators like whatever witchcraft you got
- 17:32like. He's been there, done he's.
- 17:34Slinging it, yeah, so. Yeah, You know, everybody, you
- 17:39know, I think that's a dying breed, you know, honestly, Like
- 17:42literally, I hope literal Yeah, because they've been chugging,
- 17:44you know, Bud Light full or Bud Full flavors and Marlboro Reds
- 17:50for the last 30 years. I mean, you're talking about,
- 17:53you know, banquet beers and and and, you know, maybe some fine
- 17:57cigars, but more than that, the, you know, the the the smell of
- 18:01their own farts and just completely because heads up
- 18:06asses for sure, they're. They're part of the Million
- 18:09Miller Big Bite Club from 711. Them and the landscapers just
- 18:14eaten so many big bites, you know, like, yeah, he's going to
- 18:18live forever because his entire intestines are nitrate.
- 18:21They're. All preserved and yes soldering
- 18:25fumes right, like all the all the preservatives you know
- 18:29that's that's that's where you're going and everybody knows
- 18:31it's funny too, because everybody knows a person like
- 18:33this and you know Frank is not the real person.
- 18:36It's more of a an amalgamation of a of a character that I came
- 18:39up with based on all of these assholes he's.
- 18:41Got a really good diner in Spokane so I should go check it
- 18:44out. Well, yeah, I mean, come on, you
- 18:46know how how do you not? But yeah, that that's the dude
- 18:49who he has, you know, he has a a methodology for for every single
- 18:53thing. He always eats lunch at the same
- 18:55place on the same day of the week when you go to jobs, right.
- 18:58So, you know, pull that knowledge out of the dude is
- 19:01like, OK, we're at a good spots to eat and then just cut him
- 19:03loose. Like there's no other value
- 19:05there other than, you know, telling you it's the guy sounds
- 19:09a lot like us, right? Like it's it's the guy who, you
- 19:12know, says the pioneer Curro looks better than anything else
- 19:14that has come since or ever will, right.
- 19:16Like, it's that guy, you know, here's here's your attack, man.
- 19:21Yeah, I once made an S video G90 projector just look way better
- 19:26than we're seeing right now. Like, no dude.
- 19:29No, Just stop. Yeah.
- 19:32Maybe that's back when your vision was was good.
- 19:34Wow, I. Feel.
- 19:35I feel targeted. You feel seen.
- 19:40Because, well, yeah, I definitely, I'm definitely
- 19:42triggered. I definitely feel like you're
- 19:45speaking directly to me. Everybody knows that guy.
- 19:48That guy is just and, and for what it's worth, right?
- 19:50Like there's a lot of knowledge there.
- 19:52And you know, I'm I'm that guy now too.
- 19:54Like here, you know, here I am 46 and like I'm telling the
- 19:57Indians, you don't know how good you have it, like.
- 20:00That's, that's fair. I mean, I, you know, I
- 20:03specifically remember thinking in my career that, you know,
- 20:06there were milestones like I didn't, I want to be standing on
- 20:08a ladder past 40 years old. I just just, you know, I got
- 20:13pretty close. I want to be standing.
- 20:16I want to be pointing at the guy standing on the.
- 20:17Ladder I want to be talking to or I want to be selling or I
- 20:20want to be doing something. I don't want to be standing on a
- 20:22ladder at 40. And you know, luckily I dodged
- 20:24that bullet by a few years, you know, but.
- 20:27When you fell off the ladder and became a quadriplegic.
- 20:30Yeah, I prevented. You from ever having to go up on
- 20:32a ladder again. Yeah, I'd blow into a straw to
- 20:34get down the street, but I mean, not, not to make light of
- 20:39anybody's personal challenges, but.
- 20:41Let me tell you kids about soldering S video.
- 20:44Sorry. You're making it worse, so
- 20:47that's good. Appreciate you doing that.
- 20:50Coal on this fire, yeah. Yeah, let's let's go gas and
- 20:53matches. That's what we're doing here.
- 20:55But the the reality of all of that I think is, yeah, it's just
- 21:02a a different, it's a different thing that we're looking at in
- 21:06our industry across, you know, across all of the the angles
- 21:12that were they're seeing it from even a giant company like Barco,
- 21:17who is a fucking giant. Like they're not like this is
- 21:21not small potatoes we're talking about here is looking at brand
- 21:25acquisition and positioning to bolster their image and to get
- 21:29into new verticals or really establish themselves as the
- 21:33defined players in those roles. I mean, one could argue that the
- 21:37high end projector market is pretty much the Barco market.
- 21:42I don't, I can't think of another line of projector.
- 21:46Even our good friends over at Sony, they don't really have an
- 21:50answer to to. Something just exists.
- 21:52I mean, it really just exists in a different stratosphere, right?
- 21:55Like there's there's amazing projector companies, right Epsom
- 21:58sure see Sony like throw them all a. 100%, yeah.
- 22:01It it doesn't, it just doesn't hit that Barco level where you
- 22:04know, you need to be, you know, and maybe I'm getting ahead of
- 22:07myself. This is how it was a couple of
- 22:08years ago. Like you need to take a laser
- 22:10safety training course and post signs about about proper laser
- 22:14safety in the. Theater might know something
- 22:16about all that. You might do you have your FDA
- 22:21RG3 certificate or do you have an RG2 certificate like let's?
- 22:27This industry is so fucking ridiculous.
- 22:30It really is. They're like, what do you mean I
- 22:32can't buy this projector? And for those of us or anybody
- 22:35that's listening to this or what we're talking about here, here
- 22:39we go. Yeah, here we we do.
- 22:41We do make some inside references, but here we go.
- 22:44So anything that's sold in the United States that is powered by
- 22:48a laser is actually certified and controlled by the FCC.
- 22:53Not exactly sure why it's the sorry not the FCC, it's the FDA,
- 22:57sorry not not FCCFDA. So not exactly sure what food or
- 23:01drugs are associated with lasers, but regardless, that's
- 23:06where that lands. So there are products out there
- 23:09that could potentially hurt you. So imagine that something that's
- 23:13got 10,000 lumens or more really bright, if you look directly
- 23:17into it when it's on, there is a possibility that that could do
- 23:21some damage to your eyesight. Not not permanent, but enough to
- 23:26enough to get your attention. And if you looked into it long
- 23:29enough, you know, absolutely you'd be like at the end of
- 23:32Indiana Jones where you're melting like an Oxy, you know?
- 23:35Do not, do not look into the. Do not look into the projector
- 23:39with a remaining good eye. Don't look into the ARC.
- 23:41Don't look at it, Marianne, just close your eyes.
- 23:44Just don't look at it. Whatever you do, you know the
- 23:49the, the. So as a result of that, there
- 23:53are projectors and products out there that come with these
- 23:56certifications for different, different risk groups.
- 23:58So risk Group 1 is, hey, you're fine, no problem.
- 24:02Risk group 2 is, hey, you know what, this is bright.
- 24:05But as long as you position this thing properly, you're going to
- 24:08be OK. And then you run into products
- 24:10like that, fall into the risk Group 3 category where if you
- 24:14were happening to be walking by and looked over at this
- 24:18projector randomly and it was at the right height in the room and
- 24:22not installed properly, could potentially leave to some eye
- 24:25damage, some skin damage, something like that, sure.
- 24:28What the likelihood of that really is, I'm not too sure.
- 24:31But I did do some research to figure out exactly where this
- 24:36law came from. And it goes all the way back to
- 24:40the planetarium shows with Pink Floyd and.
- 24:44All that Pink Floyd. Laser light shows for
- 24:48planetarium concerts? Exactly.
- 24:51So if you want to go and see REO Speedwagon projected onto the
- 24:55ceiling of the your local Science Center, don't stop
- 24:59believing. That's that's journey.
- 25:02No, that's journey. No, what's the?
- 25:04There was an REO Speedwagon one that I remember being
- 25:09advertised, so that's why it came into my mind.
- 25:11I can see the poster laser Arios Speedwagon.
- 25:15You know, like. At the Ocean County College
- 25:17Planetarium. Yeah, you're at the John Young
- 25:21Planetarium in Orlando, FL, and you know, a bunch of kids of
- 25:25eating some wacky brownies or gotten crazy had had a few beers
- 25:29in the parking lot. We're going to go rock out to
- 25:31Metallica, dude. See here, here's an underserved
- 25:36market and I'm going to completely go off this tangent
- 25:39here and, and, and thank you for enlightening us on the laser
- 25:41show loophole. And all that.
- 25:43Yeah, there we go. No, for real.
- 25:45Like I mean that's legit. I never knew that.
- 25:47Before that's that's where it came from.
- 25:48So somebody got hurt at a laser light show by looking into the
- 25:51laser light? Like most most rules, right?
- 25:55So Needless to say, litigious blah, blah, blah.
- 26:00So that's actually where that risk risk group definition comes
- 26:03from, is from like theatrical shows of lasers.
- 26:07So I think there's an opportunity here, right?
- 26:09Like we're, you know, we're maybe home theaters are dying,
- 26:11okay, and they're becoming mixed-use, you know, media rooms
- 26:14and that kind of thing. But you know golf simulators are
- 26:17getting pretty big, right? Like home sports, things like
- 26:19golf Sims or. Foresight, Golf, VX.
- 26:21Those are sick. Well, how about one at a home
- 26:25planetarium where you can, you know, eat, eat your special
- 26:28brownies and watch Laser REO Speedwagon with your board kids
- 26:35and patient wife in your own home?
- 26:37Can we? Can we?
- 26:39Is this a vertical? I mean, it's a business.
- 26:43I mean the what does the projector look like?
- 26:46I think there's all those kids projectors with the night sky
- 26:49and all that stuff already. So I think like that technology
- 26:52already exists. So like what do we do to
- 26:54differentiate that? Right.
- 26:56Yeah. Well, we have to.
- 26:56Yeah, we have to do. We have to do something.
- 26:58So we need to workshop this before we bring it to market.
- 27:01I think, I think this is an untapped vertical.
- 27:04I think this is something that we could, you know, we could
- 27:06sell this concept. Hey, we're pushing people to get
- 27:10in the shades and lighting and linear and, and all kinds of fun
- 27:14stuff. And, you know, home planetariums
- 27:16that might be, you know, who knows, right?
- 27:19I mean, you know, you want to watch.
- 27:21Can't fight this feeling anymore.
- 27:23Feeling it. Took you that long to look up at
- 27:26Arya's Speedwagon song? Nicely done dude.
- 27:29I'm glad to circle back to it and I couldn't.
- 27:31I couldn't let that one go. That is, that is just.
- 27:33Stellar and then you can just keep on loving you and all of
- 27:36that stuff while you're while you're singing along and be
- 27:38great in your in your garage, your love.
- 27:43I love the Mad Libs with REO Speedwagon song titles.
- 27:46That's great. And you can see.
- 27:47So my my son just rolled in from school here in the background
- 27:51and has no idea would would would you ever?
- 27:56Would you ever want a home planetarium?
- 27:58What's that? You don't know what a
- 28:00planetarium is. OK, well, never mind.
- 28:04Well. Great talking.
- 28:05To you, good talking to you. Thanks for coming by.
- 28:11Really appreciate the hand up in our show buddy, good job.
- 28:15Yeah, but I don't know, man, I think this could work.
- 28:18I mean, you know, it's going to be, it's got to be more popular
- 28:21than we. We could sell this as a business
- 28:22concept, right? Like, let's see it.
- 28:24Let's let's get the let's get Jason saying the diagram this
- 28:27whole thing and we could. We could, I know, let's get an
- 28:29ASB loan for you, get $500,000, I'll get $500,000 and I'll see
- 28:34you in Costa Rica, I mean. That's where we're going to do
- 28:37research because you can see the night sky in OH.
- 28:40That's right. There's no, there's no city
- 28:42lights. See, we're.
- 28:43Good partners in this thing here I can loophole this thing so.
- 28:47Yeah, let's do it. I'm here for it.
- 28:49It sounds like a great idea. Nobody's future's involved.
- 28:52No. No.
- 28:53Whatever. It's fine.
- 28:55It'll be fine. But yeah, so there was my there
- 28:58was my take on the acquisition of Barco name.
- 29:01I think it's probably 25% baked as far as my understanding of
- 29:04it, but I just kind of brought world.
- 29:09Oh, there we go. Yeah.
- 29:10Yeah, he's back. It's good.
- 29:11He's blew out speakers all over. He brought.
- 29:16Man, I don't even know how to follow that up.
- 29:18That was amazing. I'm sorry, yeah.
- 29:20That's that's fine. Works, no.
- 29:21It's alright if you. Can beat him later off.
- 29:23Off Mike not. Much later.
- 29:25I mean, it's going to be right after we hang out here.
- 29:30Oh, man, that's the best. He's awesome.
- 29:32That's good. The yeah, no, again, I think the
- 29:36strategy and the optics of that, as we talked about multiple
- 29:40times, we're going to see more and more acquisitions.
- 29:43You're going to see brands that may be dissimilar or dis alike,
- 29:47Yeah, teaming up to to build that IP together.
- 29:50And I mean, what an attractive opportunity for a company like
- 29:53Barco to be that much bigger. Let's let's write a check and
- 29:57get into the high end audio space.
- 29:59And Oh yeah, by the way, they also put this audio systems in
- 30:01Bentley's or Focal. It's just weird.
- 30:04Well, and and like, like how much of that kind of goes
- 30:07towards a marketing budget, right?
- 30:08Like where OK, I'm this, you know, this acquisition is
- 30:11marketing money to get us more recognition across an
- 30:14established, you know, another established vertical, right?
- 30:17Like here we are. Here's one. 100% now they're
- 30:20advertising an F1, there's going to be a Barco sticker on an Audi
- 30:23F1 car probably right? Like, I don't know that to be
- 30:27true, but that there's certainly some, you know, if you look
- 30:30through the woodpile deep enough, there's some, there's
- 30:32some integration there, right? So it's a, it's a wild update
- 30:37and I think one that deserved a little bit more thought and a
- 30:40little more attention, certainly some discussion by two idiots
- 30:43that yell into the Internet. I mean, that's, that's how we
- 30:45roll, right? We got the 10 year old's take on
- 30:47it. We got the rusty old men take.
- 30:50We're hitting all the all the demographics here.
- 30:53Made a planetarium joke and a wacky brownie joke.
- 30:55It was a good time. It's really, it's really circled
- 30:58the whole wagons. It was amazing.
- 31:00And if you would like to give us our your thoughts on, on the, on
- 31:04the Barco acquisition or just a the lunacy that we spew every
- 31:08week consistently for the last 117 weeks or whatever it's been
- 31:14has. It been last weeks.
- 31:16I think it's been 110. I think we're at 110 now.
- 31:19I don't know off the top of my head.
- 31:20Whatever, man. I just we, we cut these and I
- 31:23just throw them up and call it a day.
- 31:24Never listen again. Never listen.
- 31:27Again, you you need them. Everybody.
- 31:29Else, don't look back, just just keep going forward.
- 31:32That's all you can do. I did somebody, somebody asked
- 31:35me just out of the blue, like, you know, one of the dealer
- 31:38friend of mine was like, hey, you know, if you were bringing
- 31:40somebody new into the industry, you know, how would you kind of
- 31:44introduce him to it, right? Like if it was somebody fresh
- 31:46out of DeVry or link tech or whatever, like how would you
- 31:49give them an idea? And like I flipped them a link
- 31:52to our podcast and didn't say that it was me and you, but you
- 31:56know, this podcast, these guys kind of give a real, real
- 31:59impression. So, you know, if, if you've got
- 32:02somebody you'd like to, you know, show the, the, the gross
- 32:05underbelly and, and, and realness of this industry, yeah.
- 32:08Turn them on to us, yeah. Better yet, just get your
- 32:11friend's phones or your mom's phone, your uncle's phone, your
- 32:14cousin's phone, and just load up their podcast app and subscribe
- 32:17for us. Just we don't, they don't need
- 32:18to ever listen. Just Nope.
- 32:20Just. Oh, yeah, you're on Spotify.
- 32:22Oh, cool. Let me let me look for this.
- 32:24Real Hey, let me take a look at this real quick and suddenly.
- 32:26Just what are you listening to? That's the other thing you can
- 32:28do a quick spot check on what they're up to.
- 32:31Really. Oh my God.
- 32:32Pops up. Alone, she's really problematic
- 32:35right now. What are you doing?
- 32:39I don't have teenage daughters so I know the name, but I don't
- 32:42know the. Controversy.
- 32:43Oh my God. Yeah, there is no controversy.
- 32:46That's the controversy. It's who gives a fuck.
- 32:48I don't know. Sorry.
- 32:50I didn't mean to swear at all the kids in the car so.
- 32:52Spoken like a true crusty old age.
- 32:55Yes Sir. Good way.
- 32:57And hit us up on Instagram at Inside Integration.
- 33:00Hit us up shootusanemailinsideintegration@gmail.com
- 33:04and thanks for joining us, folks.
- 33:07Yeah, take care everybody. Bye bye.
