- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: If you would, Daniel chapter one, we're gonna introduce ourselves to this hero of the faith.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: I almost said Lion of the Faith, no joke.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's because it's a kind of that nemonic device of Daniel and the Lion's Daniel.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: Always remember it that way, right?
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: Well, today we are gonna talk about Daniel, but we're not gonna put him in the lions den quite yet We're gonna introduce ourselves to him at the very beginning of this incredible book of the Bible While you turn there, let me thank you each and every one of you.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: Whether you're a faithful or a first-time listener I appreciate the fact that you've joined me today as we begin this week.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know this broadcast think about this
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's been around since 1958 or thereabouts, the late 1950s, if we do the math, that means 2008 would have been 50 years, 2018 would be 60 years.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: We're working on 65 years of this program going out over the airwaves and of course those of you these days with modern technology and streaming people are listening on podcasts, apple podcasts, and Spotify, all those places, but some also watch on YouTube.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: If our founder, Dr. Paul Levine, from so many years ago, back in 1938, is when he started this ministry Bible Tracks Incorporated, I wonder if he could have imagined where it would be today.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: But where are we?
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: We are still sending out the Gospel Light, the Word of God, to all the world.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: And we don't plan on changing that anytime soon.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: Come on, thank you for coming
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go to Daniel chapter number one and verse number one.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: I told you we'd start at the beginning Daniel chapter one.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: There's some interesting and difficult names in here.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: So you bear with me as we do our best.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Daniel one and verse number one.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: I've got one
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: thought I want to communicate to you today.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: Each day of this week we're going to zone in on one thought.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: The thought today it could be summed up in what's your purpose.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I think back to Micah, Micah McCurry, the younger Micah McCurry, a little boy Micah who liked to play a
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think back to that time, and I remember in my mind's eye, almost vividly, the imagination some of which I had at that time is a little boy.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think about playing army men, and the responsibilities, or at least as I thought of them, of an army men.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: I would think of, you know, the quartermaster, I knew what that was because my dad was a quartermaster, was a loads of station in the United States Army.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: I thought of the cooks and the mechanics.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: You realize for every infantryman, for every door, kicker, for every man that's first into the breach,
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: There are eight or nine support people, medical, food, mechanics, transport, logistics, all these different types of things that allow that infantrymen the riflemen to do his job.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: And it's so true, I think of missionaries on the other side of the world.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: There are faithful people like you who support those works.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: Bible Tracks Incorporated, we do not operate in a vacuum, you folks support it.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: But as I ask, what's your purpose?
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think back to a century, not a hundred years, but a century, S-E-N-T-R-Y.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm spelling that correctly, a guard, a watchman.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I think back a little boy, Micah.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe playing with his brothers, or his friends, and saying, who goes there?
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I'm guarding something, I don't remember what it would have been.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it was a playground or something, and maybe it's getting close to dark.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: You can't quite see who's out there, and someone comes around sneaking, they're skulking around who goes there.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: You see some movement?
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then maybe you'd say something like this.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: State your purpose.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: Who are you and state your purpose?
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: Well, friend, I am a child of God.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: I prayer is that you are as well.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't know that, I'd love to hear from you.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'll tell you later on in the broadcast how you can reach out.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'll let it talk to you about that most important of decisions, knowing Christ as your Savior.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: But if you do know your Christian, if you can say my name is, and you fill the blank, I am a Christian.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: I know where I'm going when I die.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: Well, then let me ask the follow-up question, or demand from you, state your purpose.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: What's your purpose?
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: Here in the book of Daniel, I want to give you just a few thoughts about your purpose and yes, how to find your purpose, but what you're going to need along with your purpose.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: Daniel chapter 1, verse number 1 says this, in the third year of the reign of Jehoia Kim, King of Judah, came Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon unto Jerusalem and besieged it.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: And the Lord gave Jehoia Kim,
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: King of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God, which he carried into the land of shinar to the house of his God, and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his God, that's a little G, God, and the King, spake unto Ash Penes, the master of his unix that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the kings, see, and of the princes, children in whom was no blemish but well-favored.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: and skillful in all wisdom and cunning and knowledge and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the King's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Caldians, and the King appointed them a daily provision of the King's meat, and of the wine which he drank, so nourishing them three years that at the end thereof they might stand before the King.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: Now among these were the children of Judah, Daniel, Henanaya, Michelle, and Aziraya.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: Under whom the princes of the Unix gave names for Pegave, on to Daniel the name of Belta Shazar into Henanaya, of Shadrak, and on to Michelle of Mishak, and on to Aziraya of Abendigo.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: He gives them new names, Babylonian names, verse number 8, and this is our text for today.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: familiar passage, but I want you to look at it with fresh eyes, listen, with fresh ears if you would.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: But Daniel, purposeed in his heart, that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat nor with the wine which he drank.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: Therefore he requested of the
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: Daniel had a purpose in his heart.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: If you asked Daniel who he was, his Babylonian name would not confuse him.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: Who goes there?
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: Daniel, but the Babylonians call me Beltashazar.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: He would have no problem with that, or at least telling you that.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: state your purpose.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: Well, in this particular time, I want you to think about this.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: The very first time we are introduced to Daniel.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: The very first interaction we have with them in the Bible, of course, there's much more to the book of Daniel, an amazing story of Yes God's grace, his leading, his protection, a bravery courage.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: but the very first real account.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: The first time we're introduced, it really versus one through seven, just set this stage.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: They just kind of give you the background.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: And here we go, verse number eight, but Daniel, purpose in his heart that he would not realize this meet very likely offered
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: And Daniel, we are told, decided not to do something.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: I would like to point out, and this is not the purpose of the message, we're gonna get into three or four things that will help you with your purpose, but I do wanna point out that sometimes, yes, you can purpose for positive things, you can purpose for doing things and pressing toward a mark, the prize of the high calling, we can press towards goals, we can commit and purpose in our heart that way.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: But there are some things in our lives,
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: that we might need to be, if I can put it this way, negative about or negative towards.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't mean our attitude is such that we're jerky.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean in this world where we are told, especially in this generation that we as Bible believers are too negative, that we are all about what we're against, there is in a small way.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: Some truth to that.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: There are some things that we are against.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: We're not necessarily talking about forcing our beliefs on other people, but I am against worldlyness.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: I am against the killing of children in the womb.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: I said it children, not fetus.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: That may be a scientific term and it may even be a true term, but that's still a human life there.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm against that.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm against the consumption of alcohol.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: I've been able to principles for that.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that who so look if on the wine, look if on the strong drink, who so ever to see thereby, is not wise.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's a biblical principle you can build off of.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think our bodies are the temple of God, and I believe it'd be unwise to defile it with strong drinking and certain drugs and smoking, and those type of things you say, brother, McCurray, you're a relic of a bygone age.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: That was something the old men used to believe, well, friend, I believe the Bible.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: I believe it has some principles for us, some of these things.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not necessarily looking to enforce on anyone.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: but I do believe that there should be some things we are for and there should be some things we are against.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: My desire today was to get through all four of these parts of purpose that I wanted to talk about and I have gone on too long.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: What we're going to do is this, I'm going to give you all
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: I want to ask you to tune in.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: But I do want to leave you with one thought.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: Daniel had grit.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: He was willing to be a high friction individual.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think of sand paper.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think of the times my dad had to be doing a word wood working project and you'd have the different grits of sand paper.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: If you know anything about that, what kind of grit do you think Daniel would be?
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: Was he a 400 grit, a 200 grit, a 120 grit?
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but something tells me he would have been a high friction individual.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: It would have been known that Daniel had purposeed in his heart.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I want to talk about today and what we want to talk about tomorrow on the broadcast.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: I had had high aspirations of getting through all of this in one day.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: I have failed, but I appreciate the fact that you'll tune in tomorrow as I'm sure you will.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for listening.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: In all sincerity, I'd love to hear from you.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: My sell nut, but you can text me at it's 3-0-9.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: 3-1-6-7-2-4-0.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's 3-0-9-3-1-6-7-2-4-0.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'd ask you if you would tune in tomorrow to Bible Tract Echoes, we're gonna finish this discussion.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be much quicker, I promise.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: Lord willing in the church, don't rise.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: We will finish our time in Daniel tomorrow.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: Have a great day for his glory.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: We'll play not talk to you soon.
- 13:01[UNKNOWN]: God bless.
