- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, what's happened in Eagles fans? Welcome into this edition
- 0:13of to check O Daily. It's Andrew de Checko and
- 0:16we are now just days away from Eagles Cowboys the
- 0:20season opener at Lincoln Financial Field. It's going to be
- 0:23absolutely electric. Needless to say, the Super Bowl fifty nine
- 0:27banner will be unveiled and this should be a really
- 0:31fun game to cover. But first we have to get
- 0:35to what I observe from my time at the Overcare
- 0:38Complex on Monday. It was the first day that the
- 0:42Eagles had to put out an injury report, So let's
- 0:45just get right to that, because there were some interesting
- 0:48developments here. Not practicing guard Landon Dickerson not with a knee,
- 0:53with a back, quarterback Tanner McKee with the right thumb, limited,
- 0:58safety Drew mccouba ham string, and outside linebacker josh ousha
- 1:02with the groin. Jaylen Carter with the shoulder was a
- 1:06full participant. So let's kind of unpack this here Landon
- 1:11Dickerson and bear in mind that now that it's the
- 1:15regular season, reporters were always able to be out there
- 1:20for the first fifteen minutes or so, so that's all
- 1:23we're able to see in the warm ups and individuals.
- 1:28So based on what we were able to see, Landon
- 1:30Dickerson wasn't out there, and Brett Toath, the veteran entering
- 1:35his seventh NFL season, was the left guard in place
- 1:39of Landon Dickerson.
- 1:40Speaker 2: And now we learn that it's not the knee, but
- 1:42it's the back issue. It's a back issue.
- 1:45Speaker 1: But the sense that I get is that while it
- 1:49may be up in the air that Landon plays on
- 1:52Thursday night, I think it's still skews towards him playing.
- 1:55But we'll have to wait and see what develops because
- 1:58we're still able to go tomorrow. I'll be there tomorrow
- 2:00on the practice field and we'll have more information there.
- 2:04But there's no need to yet sound any kind of
- 2:07an alarm. But I think the fact that they plugged
- 2:09in Brett Toeth there gives you an idea of what
- 2:12the contingency plan would be if Landon Dickerson couldn't go.
- 2:18But for Tanner McKee with the right thumb, what I
- 2:20have observed from him was that he was doing everything
- 2:23with his left hand, handing the ball off to the
- 2:24quarterbacks as they were going through their drills.
- 2:27Speaker 2: He was wearing a bucket hat.
- 2:28Speaker 1: On Monday, he was a non participant, but I did
- 2:33get a chance to talk to Sam Howe and Tanner
- 2:35McKee Monday when the Locker Room was open. I'll have
- 2:38more on that for the Inside the Locker Room podcast.
- 2:42But yeah, so, no, Tanner McKee does not seem likely
- 2:45to be playing Thursday night. But Sam Howe in all
- 2:49likelihood will be the number two in that situation if
- 2:51Tanner doesn't go. And obviously right now all the information
- 2:55that we have is trending towards Tanner not being available.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So that's what the that's the most.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Pertinent injury news and encouraging news for Drew mccuba, who
- 3:08for the second consecutive day participated in a limited capacity. Obviously,
- 3:12on Sunday there was no injury report, but today when
- 3:15in the first one of the season was issued, he
- 3:18was a limited participant with the hamstring.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Look.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I still am not convinced that he would be the
- 3:24starter on Thursday, given how limited his reps have been
- 3:27this summer, but I think it's trending favorably towards him
- 3:31being available for Thursday, and it's eventual. If he doesn't
- 3:35start Thursday, it feels like it's always a matter of
- 3:38time being the second round pick with that kind of pedigree,
- 3:40the cerebralness of Drew mccuba, that he will eventually be
- 3:43paired opposite Read Blankenship. But at this time, my guess
- 3:48would be that Sidney Brown would be the starter opposite
- 3:52blank and Ship because he's simply just taken the lion's
- 3:54share of the reps all summer and on Sidney Brown
- 3:59road quickly. He didn't really have a bad summer. He
- 4:03didn't have a great summer. He didn't give up anything egregious.
- 4:06He always seemed to be in the right position. Really
- 4:08fun player to watch, triggers extremely quickly downhill craves contact,
- 4:13and I feel like that type of play is contagious.
- 4:17It radiates throughout the defense, and we'll have to just
- 4:21wait and see how that transpires.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Again.
- 4:24Speaker 1: We'll be out there tomorrow Tuesday for practice, and then
- 4:28that will be the final time that we're out there
- 4:30until we see the team when everybody else sees the
- 4:32team Thursday evening when the Eagles take on the Dallas Cowboys.
- 4:38So let's just get to some notes that I had
- 4:41based off of the press conference. This is going to
- 4:44be a short podcast, guys, and I'm going to do
- 4:46the inside of the Locker Room record it tomorrow afternoon
- 4:49after the final locker Room session. A lot of really
- 4:52good stories, a lot of really good insight to give you, guys,
- 4:57and I hope you enjoyed last year because it's come back.
- 5:00And while we're on this subject very quickly, there's also
- 5:04going to be the Rookie Diary series once again. If
- 5:06you remember, the first year was with cornerback Eli Rixon
- 5:10twenty twenty three, last season was with running back Will
- 5:13Shipley and this year and I've already recorded this episode
- 5:17and it'll be you know, written out on Inside the
- 5:20Birds dot com. It is with cornerback Mac McWilliams from UCF,
- 5:24the Eagles fifth round pick. I've had some good conversations
- 5:28with Mac already. I think you all are really going
- 5:31to enjoy his story and kind of living through his
- 5:36rookie season through his eyes. I always really value those
- 5:40conversations weekly with with whoever, whether it's Eli or Will
- 5:45or in this case Mac, and hopefully you all will
- 5:48get a better sense of what he's working on behind
- 5:51the scenes and also get to.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Know a little bit about him. Off the field.
- 5:56Speaker 1: So let's get to some of those quick notes, because
- 6:00today was a coordinator day, so we heard from Vic Vangio,
- 6:03we heard from Kevin Patullo, we heard from Michael Clay.
- 6:07But I found this to be most interesting because while
- 6:10Vic is typically forthcoming, he obviously was asked point blank
- 6:15who the starting cornerback was going to be and he said,
- 6:19not sure yet, I'll let.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Nick answer that.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I also asked about the linebacker and then the safety positions, respectively,
- 6:26and he gave a similar answer, so he wasn't necessarily
- 6:30going to reveal it. But then he was asked if
- 6:32he knew who the starters would be, and he replied
- 6:36pretty much. Yeah. So based off of eighteen practices and
- 6:41three preseason games, if I had to make an educated
- 6:44assumption here, it's going to be a Dori Jackson at
- 6:47corner opposite Quinna Mitchell, and as I mentioned, Sidney Brown
- 6:51next to Blanken Ship at safety.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Obviously that's all subject to change.
- 6:56Speaker 1: And I think if you needed further evidence, Vic Fangio,
- 7:01what cornerback jacoryan Bennett has shown him over the past
- 7:06four weeks And his answer was I like him. He's
- 7:09got good speed, he's got a good attitude, he's got
- 7:12a good football brain, shown some good coverability. I'm sure
- 7:16he'll be out there at some point this season. It
- 7:19could be this one too, so who knows. But it
- 7:24does again, much like the Sydney Brown situation at safety,
- 7:27it does feel like if Jacorean Bennett doesn't open Week
- 7:32one as the starter, it feels like inevitably, based on
- 7:35his skill set, body type, I just and upside, I
- 7:40feel like he would be the most logical choice. So
- 7:44that's kind of where I land on all of that.
- 7:47And then linebacker Jahad Campbell would be the most logical
- 7:51choice to pair opposite Zach Bond. We didn't get a
- 7:55chance to see a ton of that pairing in training
- 7:57camp because Zach Bond missed a chunk of time. I'm
- 8:00with the back and Jahid Campbell was going second and
- 8:03first team and bouncing back and forth, and Jeremiah Trotter Junior,
- 8:06who had a tremendous training camp, was largely rolling with
- 8:10the first team for the entirety of the summer. But
- 8:12if your goal is to put your most dynamic and
- 8:16high upside and best pairing next to one another and
- 8:19fortify that second level it would be Jehid Campbell and
- 8:23Zach Bond. So that's what I'm expecting to see there.
- 8:26So you've gotten my predictions and how I'm sort of
- 8:29reading this and how I forecast the defense looking on
- 8:32Opening Night listen. I cannot wait to cover this game.
- 8:36I can't wait to cover this season. We will have
- 8:38everything here on Inside the Birds dot com and on
- 8:41Inside the Birds platforms where you can find all of
- 8:44the podcast and really good content and insight throughout the season.
- 8:49This has been to check odaily. I'm Andrew de Checo
- 8:52and I will talk to everybody tomorrow. O
