- 0:03Speaker 1: Hike, everybody. I'm Dan Horde and thanks for downloading the
- 0:06Speaker 1: Bengals Booth podcast. You're the one Want edition as my
- 0:13Speaker 1: broadcast partner Dave Lapham joins me to preview this week's
- 0:16Speaker 1: NFL draft coming up. You will not only get our
- 0:19Speaker 1: predictions for who the Bengals will select in the first
- 0:22Speaker 1: round with the eleventh overall pick, but this year we
- 0:25Speaker 1: will take a staff at predicting the Bengals first three picks.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We'll discuss the quarterback position and how early we think
- 0:33Speaker 1: the Bengals will draft one, and we will give our
- 0:36Speaker 1: dream scenarios, which in both of our cases involves the
- 0:40Speaker 1: Bengals trading their first round selection. Do we want them
- 0:44Speaker 1: to move up or move down? Stay tuned to find
- 0:48Speaker 1: out All of that is straight ahead. But first, here's
- 0:51Speaker 1: a quick reminder that you can have the latest edition
- 0:53Speaker 1: of this podcast delivered right to your phone, tablet, or
- 0:57Speaker 1: computer by subscribing I Tunes, Stitcher, google Play, or pod Bean.
- 1:03Speaker 1: It's the greatest convention since personalized golf balls. I have
- 1:10Speaker 1: a buddy who works for titlist who sent me a
- 1:12Speaker 1: gift this week, golf balls that say Sam's Dad on
- 1:16Speaker 1: the side in honor of my twelve year old son.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I love them, but I also wanted to get the
- 1:22Speaker 1: word out there just in case you find one in
- 1:25Speaker 1: the woods at a Cincinnati area golf course in the
- 1:28Speaker 1: near future and incorrectly think you found a ball that
- 1:31Speaker 1: was lost by Tiger Woods. Unfortunately for you, it's a
- 1:36Speaker 1: different Sam's dad. Let's get to the draft. Dave Lapham
- 1:41Speaker 1: has a remarkable record for predicting who the Bengals will
- 1:44Speaker 1: take with their number one pick. The first four years
- 1:48Speaker 1: we did this, Lap nailed Kevin Zeidler, Tyler Eifert, Darques Denard,
- 1:52Speaker 1: and Cedrico Boihe. In twenty sixteen, he predicted wide receiver
- 1:57Speaker 1: Will Fuller laps no Stradamis like streak ended when Fuller
- 2:02Speaker 1: was taken three picks before the Bengals were on the clock,
- 2:05Speaker 1: and they wound up choosing Will Jackson. The following year,
- 2:08Speaker 1: lap was right again, going with John Ross at number nine. Overall.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Last year, he predicted that the Bengals would go with
- 2:16Speaker 1: a center in the first round, and his personal preference
- 2:19Speaker 1: was Frank Ragnow. Out of the trio of Ragnow, Billy
- 2:23Speaker 1: Price and James Daniels, the Lions agreed with Lap and
- 2:27Speaker 1: took Ragnow one spot before Cincinnati and the Bengals wound
- 2:32Speaker 1: up choosing price for what it's worth. That was my prediction.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Now time for a deep dive into what we think
- 2:39Speaker 1: the Bengals are likely to do beginning on Thursday night.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Lap I want to start with the guys that we
- 2:45Speaker 1: think there's no chance on God's green Earth that are
- 2:48Speaker 1: going to be there at number eleven when the Bengals
- 2:50Speaker 1: make their first pick, because I think we can also
- 2:52Speaker 1: assume they're not going to trade way up in the draft.
- 2:54Speaker 1: They've almost never done that in their history. So in
- 2:57Speaker 1: my mind, Quinnin Williams, Joe Ebosa, Josh Allen, and Kyler
- 3:02Speaker 1: Murray are the four guys that I think there's absolutely
- 3:06Speaker 1: no chance in the world they'll be there. What do
- 3:09Speaker 1: you think? Yeah, I agree with that, Dan. I mean
- 3:12Speaker 1: I think that in this draft, if you go by
- 3:15Speaker 1: best player, I think in the in the in the
- 3:19Speaker 1: top ten, there should be seven or eight defensive linemen
- 3:22Speaker 1: that go. But it probably won't be the case because
- 3:25Speaker 1: quarterbacks are valued so much higher. I don't have a
- 3:28Speaker 1: one A grade on any quarterback personally, just big holes
- 3:33Speaker 1: in every quarterbacks. Every quarterbacks, you know, numbers, tape, everything else.
- 3:38Speaker 1: When you say one A, do you mean like the
- 3:40Speaker 1: top third of the first round? If they were, they're
- 3:42Speaker 1: thirty two teams, so if there are thirty three, the
- 3:44Speaker 1: Bengals would be the last pick of the one. Ah,
- 3:47Speaker 1: they're the eleven, so they're they're the boardline. Are they
- 3:49Speaker 1: one A or they the top of one B? But yeah,
- 3:52Speaker 1: the top the top third of the draft. I don't
- 3:55Speaker 1: think any of the quarterbacks weren't being in the top
- 3:57Speaker 1: third of that, but they'll they are round quarterbacks. So
- 4:01Speaker 1: since there were first round quarterbacks, a couple of them,
- 4:05Speaker 1: at least one of them, maybe two will go one A.
- 4:08Speaker 1: And I honestly that leads me to around the league,
- 4:14Speaker 1: normally there are you know, eighteen to twenty two first
- 4:18Speaker 1: round grades of the thirty two guys that are drafted
- 4:21Speaker 1: in the first round. Everybody the consensus is, you know,
- 4:25Speaker 1: never thirty two first round grades eighteen to twenty two range.
- 4:29Speaker 1: This year I've heard as few as fifteen. I've heard
- 4:33Speaker 1: as few as twelve a dozen to fifteen one A grades.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So that means, you know, will the Bengals get a
- 4:39Speaker 1: one A player. They may they may have to settle
- 4:42Speaker 1: for a one B player at the at the end
- 4:44Speaker 1: of one AIR at the beginning of one B and
- 4:46Speaker 1: hopefully not go one C. And so there will be
- 4:50Speaker 1: a lot of teams that are in their first round
- 4:52Speaker 1: are getting one B or one C. You know, talent players,
- 4:55Speaker 1: but because of this draft is far from top heavy.
- 4:59Speaker 1: The strength the draft is rounds two through four. Good
- 5:02Speaker 1: to have five sixth round picks. Five six round picks
- 5:06Speaker 1: I'd like to have in a perfect world, I'd like
- 5:09Speaker 1: to see him trade back and get an extra third,
- 5:11Speaker 1: get another pick in the top ninety five picks of
- 5:14Speaker 1: the draft. Five picks in the sixth round. The chances
- 5:18Speaker 1: of hitting a CJ. Zama, A Rex Brokehead increased exponentially
- 5:23Speaker 1: a numbers game, You're gonna hit on one of them.
- 5:25Speaker 1: You would think you're probably not gonna hit on three
- 5:27Speaker 1: of them though, so but you it is going to
- 5:30Speaker 1: give you a better opportunity. I mean, you're selecting consecutive
- 5:34Speaker 1: players there for a while. I mean, it gives you
- 5:36Speaker 1: a pretty good shot of hitting on one of them
- 5:38Speaker 1: because nobody's gonna be taken anything from you. You're just boom,
- 5:40Speaker 1: boom boom. What are you? What are you thinking and
- 5:43Speaker 1: how good is your board in that area. And over
- 5:45Speaker 1: the years, they've been pretty good in that area. So
- 5:48Speaker 1: it is an interesting draft, I think, and that there's
- 5:51Speaker 1: not even usually you can say here's the top five guys,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and definitely here's the top three guys. This year you
- 5:57Speaker 1: can't even say that. You can't even say that, So
- 6:00Speaker 1: it's it's very interesting draft. Um, it's not a great
- 6:03Speaker 1: year to have a top ten pick, and the Bengals
- 6:06Speaker 1: are just outside of that obviously, but it's not a
- 6:09Speaker 1: super year to have that. Um, you know, there are
- 6:12Speaker 1: there are some players I shouldn't say unilaterally nobody deserves
- 6:15Speaker 1: to be a top ten prospect, but there aren't there
- 6:20Speaker 1: on a whole lot of first round picks talent wise
- 6:23Speaker 1: in this year's draft. And when's the last time, Dan
- 6:26Speaker 1: this has been talked about it a few times once
- 6:28Speaker 1: the last time no safety, no corner, no running back,
- 6:31Speaker 1: no wide receiver could go on the top ten. That's
- 6:34Speaker 1: been a while. I've asked people that around the league.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I said, can you remember a year where all four
- 6:38Speaker 1: of those positions are eliminated in the in the top
- 6:42Speaker 1: ten potentially and nobody can really come up with it.
- 6:45Speaker 1: You know a year right off the top of their
- 6:46Speaker 1: head like that, you think Quinn and Williams is the
- 6:48Speaker 1: best player in this draft? Correct? I do? I think?
- 6:51Speaker 1: You know, in terms of tape potential. You know, he's
- 6:55Speaker 1: a he's a guy that his body fits his frame.
- 7:00Speaker 1: You know he's not he doesn't have a Volkswagen chassis
- 7:02Speaker 1: with a Cadillac body on it. You know, is he's
- 7:05Speaker 1: still he's still a pop. He's still a young guy
- 7:07Speaker 1: that I think his best football is still ahead of him.
- 7:09Speaker 1: And he was a dominant inside guy and he's young.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I think I think he's he's going to be the guy.
- 7:17Speaker 1: In my mind, it's going to have the big, big career.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I really believe that. So we said Williams, Bossa, Allen
- 7:23Speaker 1: and Murray are definitely not going to be there at
- 7:25Speaker 1: number eleven, then I think there's another group of guys
- 7:27Speaker 1: that almost certainly won't be there as well. Devin White,
- 7:30Speaker 1: sorry Bengals fans. I think he's going to go fifth, sixth,
- 7:34Speaker 1: somewhere in that neighborhood. I think a tackle, at least
- 7:37Speaker 1: one tackle will go in the top ten. I'm not
- 7:40Speaker 1: sure which one will it be Jonah Williams, will it
- 7:42Speaker 1: be Dillard, will it be Taylor, will it be Ford.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I'm not sure, but I think a tackle will be gone.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Whatever that team considers to be the top tackle in
- 7:52Speaker 1: the draft. I think t J. Hockinson will be gone.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I think somebody will grab at the best tight end
- 7:57Speaker 1: in this draft. And personally, I think at Oliver, the
- 8:00Speaker 1: defensive tackle from Houston, will be gone. I hope all
- 8:04Speaker 1: those are true. I hope those guys all go. You know,
- 8:07Speaker 1: the interesting thing about both the linebackers, Devin White and
- 8:10Speaker 1: Devin Bush. And if Devin Bush is there at eleven,
- 8:13Speaker 1: he's obviously going to be in the in the If
- 8:14Speaker 1: White's there, he's obviously going to be in the conversation.
- 8:17Speaker 1: But you know, they're undersized. And look what the New
- 8:21Speaker 1: England Patriots did in the playoffs and in the super Bowl.
- 8:24Speaker 1: They went with a fullback and they said, okay, we're
- 8:27Speaker 1: going to old school, we're gonna pound you, and those
- 8:29Speaker 1: undersized sub packages they just beat them up, beat them up.
- 8:33Speaker 1: And you look at these linebackers and okay, they're three
- 8:38Speaker 1: down players. You're gonna get a lot of value. They're
- 8:39Speaker 1: three down players potentially, plus Darren Simmons is jeweling. I mean,
- 8:43Speaker 1: you know, you can't have them play three downs and
- 8:45Speaker 1: all the all the special teams. But if they don't
- 8:47Speaker 1: end up being three down players, you can incorporate some
- 8:50Speaker 1: special teams. There's no way a guy with these athletic
- 8:52Speaker 1: abilities can't play special teams for him. So you got
- 8:55Speaker 1: to think as a rookie, you're spending a high pick. Man,
- 8:59Speaker 1: it's snapped. How many snaps they're gonna give you? So
- 9:01Speaker 1: you have a little a little uh, you know, a
- 9:03Speaker 1: little cushion, a little miss cushion, because special teams could
- 9:07Speaker 1: could give them a lot of snaps on the football field.
- 9:10Speaker 1: But when tight ends, big tight ends, these little guys
- 9:14Speaker 1: are going to get leveraged in the passing game. Each
- 9:17Speaker 1: guy has one career interception one. Where's the big playmaking?
- 9:22Speaker 1: I mean there are these you know, smaller guys that
- 9:24Speaker 1: quasi safety is playing one pick each in their careers.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I don't know about the playmaking ability, particularly when you
- 9:31Speaker 1: go to the NFL level and you have these tight
- 9:34Speaker 1: ends that are the tyler efforts of you know, Hawkinson.
- 9:37Speaker 1: These guys that have size ability to run routes, you know,
- 9:41Speaker 1: length contested catch. These guys are going to struggle in
- 9:45Speaker 1: a contested catch area they did in college. Obviously they
- 9:47Speaker 1: only got one pick each. That's a little bit of
- 9:50Speaker 1: a concern to me and Devin White. I watched U
- 9:53Speaker 1: coach Turner, I watched Texas A and M. Put it
- 9:55Speaker 1: to Devin White. They beat him up, man, I mean
- 9:58Speaker 1: he's I watched solely that tape. He got knocked around.
- 10:03Speaker 1: He missed tackles. You know, I'm thinking top five pick.
- 10:07Speaker 1: You're playing like a top five pick in that game
- 10:09Speaker 1: against Texas A and M. And you can always find
- 10:12Speaker 1: games like that. But he missed a lot of tackles.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I think Bush is a more sure tackler than White is.
- 10:18Speaker 1: But I don't know, Man, going to that next level
- 10:21Speaker 1: in the NFL, I'm not sure, but we'll see, we'll see.
- 10:26Speaker 1: All right, Let's take a look at kind of the
- 10:28Speaker 1: pool of guys we think will be in the mix
- 10:31Speaker 1: at number eleven. Yeah, I honestly, I think, you know,
- 10:35Speaker 1: Devin Bush will obviously, you know, be in the conversation
- 10:39Speaker 1: at the linebacker position. An edge rush guy like Gary
- 10:44Speaker 1: or Sweat will be in the conversation. Medical issues with
- 10:47Speaker 1: both of those guys. You know, Sweat has a thickening
- 10:50Speaker 1: wall in his heart. I mean, he has a heart
- 10:52Speaker 1: condition that a lot of some teams that I've talked
- 10:55Speaker 1: to are have a bigger concern with it than others.
- 10:58Speaker 1: It's you know, you just have to feel good about
- 11:00Speaker 1: it if you're going to draft him. Obviously. Plus, uh,
- 11:03Speaker 1: you know Mark D'Antonio said, see you later up in
- 11:07Speaker 1: Michigan State. We know him. I mean, if you that
- 11:10Speaker 1: if he really feels good about a foot, he have
- 11:12Speaker 1: to have done something pretty severe for Mark to part
- 11:15Speaker 1: ways to say, Sayonara m So you know that's a
- 11:18Speaker 1: little bit but a little bit of an issue. But
- 11:20Speaker 1: man physically a freak, you know, six six, big, big size.
- 11:26Speaker 1: He's got eighty four inch length. I mean, you know,
- 11:27Speaker 1: guys have seven foot wingspans and he runs a four
- 11:30Speaker 1: to four forty And with that inspector gadget arms, he
- 11:34Speaker 1: can set the edge and lock you know, lock guys
- 11:36Speaker 1: up in the in the running game, keep people away
- 11:38Speaker 1: from him. He could be a big tackle for lost
- 11:40Speaker 1: sack guy. Rashaan Gary is a freak over two hundred
- 11:44Speaker 1: and eighty pounds, run sub four to six you know,
- 11:47Speaker 1: thirty eight inch vertical ten foot broad jump. But you
- 11:51Speaker 1: put the tape on where is it ten and a
- 11:53Speaker 1: half career sacks as the number one defensive line recruit,
- 11:57Speaker 1: number one overall recruit in the country. Ten and a
- 11:59Speaker 1: half career Yeah, and he only played nine games last
- 12:01Speaker 1: year and he's got a shoulder problem and supposedly it's
- 12:04Speaker 1: a rotator cuff, and uh, you know, I can I
- 12:08Speaker 1: can think back to Buffalo drafted the kid out of
- 12:11Speaker 1: Clemson with a rotator cuff first round pick. I'm trying
- 12:15Speaker 1: to think of the edge rush guy and cramping on
- 12:16Speaker 1: his name right now. But Rex Ryan Take took him
- 12:19Speaker 1: in the first round. His son, Rex Ryan Some was
- 12:21Speaker 1: a walk on at Clemson and said, you know this guy,
- 12:24Speaker 1: he's a big time playmaker. And uh, you know, early
- 12:28Speaker 1: in the training camp, or even maybe even before training camp,
- 12:32Speaker 1: you know, he had to have surgery on the rotator cuff.
- 12:34Speaker 1: So if Sean Gary does have a rotator cuff problem,
- 12:38Speaker 1: maybe that's the reason his productivity was down last year.
- 12:42Speaker 1: And I thought last year, to me, it looked like
- 12:44Speaker 1: he was shutting it down some. It might have been
- 12:46Speaker 1: the shoulder might have been an agent in his ear
- 12:48Speaker 1: saying take care of yourself, don't do anything stupid, make
- 12:51Speaker 1: some good business decisions. But you know, you don't want
- 12:53Speaker 1: to have that. But the interesting thing that the Bengals
- 12:56Speaker 1: have dan the northern team in the league has ten.
- 13:00Speaker 1: They're almost half of their coaches or from college last year.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Last year in college. Jordan Kovac's defensive quality control for
- 13:08Speaker 1: the Bengals on the Michigan staff last year. Tim Lucaboo,
- 13:14Speaker 1: linebackers coach for the Bengals on the Mississippi State coaching
- 13:17Speaker 1: staff last year. They know about these injuries. It's not
- 13:20Speaker 1: like speculation. It's not rumor, it's not you know, it's
- 13:24Speaker 1: they know. They were there as coaches. They know exactly
- 13:27Speaker 1: what the doctors were saying. That's intel that other teams
- 13:30Speaker 1: don't have. That's great information. So they coached some of
- 13:34Speaker 1: these prospects. Jim Turner game planned against them in the
- 13:39Speaker 1: SEC and as the offensive line coach at Texas AM,
- 13:44Speaker 1: he knows of what he sees and speaks Alabama, Florida,
- 13:51Speaker 1: the offensive lineman from those schools, he knows all about him.
- 13:55Speaker 1: He watched it. I mean, they have they have great
- 13:58Speaker 1: intel with all these college This is the only year
- 14:01Speaker 1: it's going to be that way, obviously, because you know
- 14:03Speaker 1: next year they'll be coach in the NFL. But they
- 14:05Speaker 1: have double digit guys on their staff that were in
- 14:09Speaker 1: the college game last year as coaches, and to me,
- 14:13Speaker 1: that is massive going into this game they'll have it'll
- 14:16Speaker 1: be interesting to see who's pounding their shoe on the
- 14:18Speaker 1: table in support of a guy who's saying, hey, you know,
- 14:21Speaker 1: and he's shaky, shaky on the field, shaky character, shaky,
- 14:24Speaker 1: whatever injury is. It's more than you think. Ah, the
- 14:28Speaker 1: injuries nothing to worry about. They will have an opinion
- 14:31Speaker 1: on all that. That's very valuable. So Devin Bush theoretically
- 14:35Speaker 1: in the mix. Edge rushers theoretically in the mist mix.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Excuse me, how about tackles. Offensive tackles, Yeah, I mean
- 14:43Speaker 1: offensive tackles are definitely going to be in the mix
- 14:46Speaker 1: because I think I think that, you know, the area
- 14:50Speaker 1: that everybody talked about is better protection for Andy Dalton
- 14:55Speaker 1: And if you do have a more solid offensive lining,
- 14:57Speaker 1: your offense is more productive, less exposure for you defense.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I mean, it all goes hand in hand. If the
- 15:02Speaker 1: defense is getting off the football field, the offense is
- 15:04Speaker 1: going to have more opportunity. If the offriends can't stay
- 15:07Speaker 1: on the football field, defense is going to have more exposure.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I mean, it's the hand fitting the glove. But I
- 15:12Speaker 1: think if you improve the offensive line, it benefits. Look
- 15:16Speaker 1: at all the skill people that they have talent wise
- 15:18Speaker 1: on the team. They have Pro Bowl players at multiple
- 15:22Speaker 1: year Pro Bowl players at quarterback, at a wide receiver
- 15:26Speaker 1: on the cusp of one at running back potentially. I mean,
- 15:29Speaker 1: they've got Tyler Eiford at tight end depending on you know,
- 15:32Speaker 1: his availabilities. They've got players, they've got skilled players, and
- 15:36Speaker 1: they've got a quarterback that can handle you know things
- 15:39Speaker 1: if you if you give him an opportunity to do so. Mentally,
- 15:42Speaker 1: I think improving the offensive line becomes paramount to me.
- 15:45Speaker 1: You know, I've I think I guess there's a former linement.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I leaned in that direction anyway, But I agree with
- 15:51Speaker 1: you Dan. You know, I'd be stunned if two tackles
- 15:54Speaker 1: go in the top you know ten, I don't know
- 15:58Speaker 1: if I'm stunned. That's probably two. That's too strong. I'd
- 16:01Speaker 1: be surprised. But one of them is gonna go, and
- 16:04Speaker 1: maybe two. I mean, it could very well happen because
- 16:07Speaker 1: around the league, I think everybody feels that way. And
- 16:10Speaker 1: you know, guys that I respect, like Charlie Cashley's got
- 16:12Speaker 1: a couple of them going, you know, in the top
- 16:13Speaker 1: ten in his mock drafts, and there are four with
- 16:16Speaker 1: high grades. Jonah Williams from Alabama, Juan Taylor from Florida,
- 16:19Speaker 1: Andre Dillard Washington State, Cody four to Oklahoma. It seems
- 16:23Speaker 1: consensus that all four of those guys are first round talents. Yeah,
- 16:27Speaker 1: and I think you know, it's it's like, what do
- 16:29Speaker 1: you um? What do you what do you like when
- 16:31Speaker 1: you when you see these guys. Taylor to me, um,
- 16:35Speaker 1: he never ran a forty. That tells me he can't.
- 16:38Speaker 1: He's not he's he's slow, he's slow footed. That doesn't
- 16:41Speaker 1: mean that he's not fluid smooth. I mean, and he's powerful.
- 16:45Speaker 1: You know. Now he's not Willie Anderson. You know, if
- 16:49Speaker 1: if Willie Anderson sitting there at ten or eleven, you
- 16:52Speaker 1: jump all over that. But he's not that. But he's
- 16:55Speaker 1: he's he's a he's a power, strong power player. He's
- 16:59Speaker 1: probably the best run player. Run right tackles strictly, a
- 17:03Speaker 1: right tackle strictly, you know, maybe a guard I mean
- 17:06Speaker 1: his feet his feet or you know, I guess good
- 17:08Speaker 1: enough to go into guard um and play the guard position.
- 17:12Speaker 1: But um, you know he's he's a right tackle strictly.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Jonah Williams, you know, hope you might hope that you
- 17:20Speaker 1: have a Matt Lite type player. I mean his film
- 17:22Speaker 1: production is pretty darn good. I think he can play left.
- 17:25Speaker 1: He played left, he can play left, right, he can
- 17:27Speaker 1: play guard, he can play center. Um, he lined up
- 17:30Speaker 1: in the SEC, as did Taylor, so they played against
- 17:33Speaker 1: the best competition you can play against. That's a plus
- 17:35Speaker 1: for those guys. For Taylor and Williams. M Williams is
- 17:39Speaker 1: a is a multi year captain. You know, he's number
- 17:44Speaker 1: four overall in the entire draft on the Pro Football
- 17:47Speaker 1: Focus board. Yeah, I think I think he might be
- 17:50Speaker 1: the one that goes if he is not taken. Sprint
- 17:55Speaker 1: sprint to get him, I mean, don't don't hesitate, run
- 17:59Speaker 1: the best forty time. You know he's your favorite of
- 18:02Speaker 1: the four. Yeah, well, I have him, Honestly, I have he.
- 18:07Speaker 1: He and Dillard those are my two guys, and those
- 18:10Speaker 1: are the two guys that i'd like to see him.
- 18:12Speaker 1: One of those two guys I'd like to see him
- 18:13Speaker 1: pick because in my mind, is still a big man's game.
- 18:17Speaker 1: And if you if you Dillard to me, is is
- 18:21Speaker 1: a left tackle. Dillard's the guy. He's he's the left tackle,
- 18:24Speaker 1: He's the prototype left tackle. The only thing is, when
- 18:27Speaker 1: I'm watching him on tap Dan, I'm looking at his
- 18:29Speaker 1: body type in the linear, I'm like, I've seen this
- 18:33Speaker 1: movie before. It looks like Cedric Odway here a little bit. Physically,
- 18:36Speaker 1: It's like, oh, man, he's got long and he's got
- 18:38Speaker 1: the long arms, and he's fluid and he's smooth and
- 18:40Speaker 1: he's athletic. And I'm like, oh, don't like that. But
- 18:44Speaker 1: he seems to have a little more saltiness to him
- 18:46Speaker 1: as I'm watching. And he's gonna turn twenty four in October.
- 18:49Speaker 1: He's not a kid, so I think I think that's
- 18:52Speaker 1: that will help him. Um, you know it, obviously you're thinking, I, well, jeez,
- 18:56Speaker 1: he's only gonna play till he's thirty two. You know
- 18:59Speaker 1: how many years we got out of him. Hey, you know,
- 19:02Speaker 1: I would I would take the guy. I think his
- 19:04Speaker 1: experienced level is a plus. Washington State, you know, through
- 19:08Speaker 1: a sixty five times a game, and he was a machine.
- 19:11Speaker 1: He bends at the knees, he's got very good hand placement,
- 19:14Speaker 1: he's got a good punch. He can redirect with people.
- 19:17Speaker 1: He is the best pass blocker in my mind, the
- 19:19Speaker 1: best pack pass blocker in the draft. Kind of a
- 19:23Speaker 1: finesse run guy, not a dominant, powerful run guy. Um
- 19:28Speaker 1: will coach Turner be able to teach him technique that
- 19:31Speaker 1: because up there they don't give a don They don't
- 19:35Speaker 1: give a don about running a football. I mean, the
- 19:37Speaker 1: running game is a draw. You know, they don't. I
- 19:40Speaker 1: know Mike Leach, and I know Mike Leach personally. I
- 19:42Speaker 1: mean I did a bunch of his games the text.
- 19:44Speaker 1: He did not care about running the football one iota.
- 19:48Speaker 1: So you're never going to see, you know, a great
- 19:50Speaker 1: run run block technique out of his out of their
- 19:53Speaker 1: offensive lineman. Doesn't mean he can't do it. But as
- 19:56Speaker 1: you look at him, he looks he looks more for
- 19:58Speaker 1: he looks more like a finesse position guy rather than
- 20:01Speaker 1: you know, come downhill and smoke you off the line
- 20:03Speaker 1: of scrimmage. So I guess that would be you know,
- 20:05Speaker 1: the question of the flying Who's ointment to me? Ford
- 20:08Speaker 1: is a guard? Yeah yeah? And Taylor, Taylor and Ford
- 20:14Speaker 1: a little bit more. These guys are the old Oakland
- 20:17Speaker 1: Raiders Allah art Shaw and Gane Upshaw clamp I mean
- 20:21Speaker 1: their techniques they grab you know that. That tells me
- 20:25Speaker 1: they're not confident in their movement. They're just they're trying
- 20:28Speaker 1: to reach and grab you and um. In the NFL
- 20:33Speaker 1: with the with the better athletes that they're going to
- 20:34Speaker 1: be facing. If they don't have the really good footwork
- 20:37Speaker 1: and the ability to change direction, they'll they'll maul people
- 20:40Speaker 1: in the running game. But I'm not sure about pass protection,
- 20:43Speaker 1: you know. And my experience has always been if a
- 20:45Speaker 1: guy's if his if his better area of his game
- 20:48Speaker 1: is run blocking, it's gonna be very hard. It's more difficult,
- 20:51Speaker 1: I think, to teach a good run block or a
- 20:53Speaker 1: pass block than a good pass block or a run block.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I really feel that way, all right, So possibility of
- 20:59Speaker 1: a linebacker, edge rusher, offensive tackle, What about quarterback? What
- 21:04Speaker 1: if Haskins is there at number eleven. I don't think
- 21:08Speaker 1: they I don't think they take him. I think that
- 21:11Speaker 1: in my mind, Miami sitting at thirteen Washington Stenting at fifteen,
- 21:15Speaker 1: the Giants are sitting at seventeen. I do think the
- 21:17Speaker 1: Giants are going to take one of the edge rushers.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Knowing their GM's. He loves big people. He loves, you know,
- 21:24Speaker 1: with their top ten pick, with their top ten pick,
- 21:26Speaker 1: their six pick of the draft. I think that Gettleman
- 21:30Speaker 1: is going to go with a hog Molly, like he
- 21:31Speaker 1: likes to call him. You know. He likes big people,
- 21:34Speaker 1: and he feels like you win with big people. I
- 21:36Speaker 1: think he goes there would not surprise me or stun
- 21:39Speaker 1: me whatsoever. Was seventeen though he may be thinking, all right,
- 21:43Speaker 1: let me try quarterback here. The Bengals are sitting pretty
- 21:46Speaker 1: thirteen fifteen, seventeen. All three of those teams potentially could say,
- 21:51Speaker 1: you know, well, particularly Washington and the Giants, we're gonna
- 21:53Speaker 1: move up ahead of Miami. Let's move up to eleven.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I think the Bengals are sitting in a great spot.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I hope Haskins is there, but we'll find out if
- 22:01Speaker 1: the Bengals, I'm not saying we'll know because they didn't
- 22:04Speaker 1: trade back, you know, and Haskins being there, I bet
- 22:07Speaker 1: they get phone calls though, I bet they get phone calls.
- 22:10Speaker 1: And if Haskins doesn't get picked in those, and how
- 22:12Speaker 1: far will he slide? You know, do you like Haskins?
- 22:15Speaker 1: I do? I think, you know, I do think that
- 22:20Speaker 1: his his mechanics are inconsistent sometimes, But man, he's got
- 22:24Speaker 1: a gun. You know, if I'm his agent, I'm gonna
- 22:27Speaker 1: tell him to fifty touchdown passes. What if he only
- 22:29Speaker 1: has thirty five next year? I mean, does his value
- 22:33Speaker 1: go down? Or to fans who would be like, oh, man,
- 22:36Speaker 1: he was he was not even close to as good
- 22:38Speaker 1: as he was his junior year or the year before
- 22:41Speaker 1: and um, but you know, to football people, they'll look
- 22:45Speaker 1: at tape or his mechanics better, was he more decisive
- 22:48Speaker 1: with his decision making and all those kind of things.
- 22:51Speaker 1: A lot of teams around the league think that he
- 22:54Speaker 1: could have used one more year, so one year starter,
- 22:57Speaker 1: which is a knock typically if you look at past
- 23:00Speaker 1: quarterback success going from college to the NFL, the more
- 23:03Speaker 1: games you start the better. Secondly, a lot of people
- 23:06Speaker 1: seem to take the feet are not very good. Yeah,
- 23:08Speaker 1: I think I think that's the that's the thing you
- 23:11Speaker 1: know they think. Um, you know, mobility is a little
- 23:14Speaker 1: bit of a question mark. I know, is more mobile
- 23:16Speaker 1: than Tom Brady was coming out of Michigan. I know
- 23:18Speaker 1: that for sure. And that Michigan game is puzzling because
- 23:20Speaker 1: you know, they were the best defense in football. But
- 23:22Speaker 1: o'house day players were wide open. When you look at
- 23:25Speaker 1: that tape, you know, I'm not saying every Tom, Dick
- 23:29Speaker 1: and Harry could make the throws, but man, he didn't
- 23:31Speaker 1: get challenged with having to make a lot of tight
- 23:33Speaker 1: window throws. And I think a lot of a lot
- 23:36Speaker 1: of NFL people are like all right with the scheme
- 23:40Speaker 1: of offense that they ran. Man, he had a lot
- 23:43Speaker 1: of wide open areas to throw the football. Can he
- 23:47Speaker 1: make it? That's why during his pro day everybody was
- 23:50Speaker 1: making a big deal out of it. He was putting
- 23:52Speaker 1: that like on a back shoulder type spot, even though
- 23:55Speaker 1: it was against air. He was trying to show people
- 23:57Speaker 1: I can hit places. Instead of being what I'm into
- 24:00Speaker 1: a wide open I'm not using gonna throw it to
- 24:01Speaker 1: him right in front him where it's needs. I'm gonna,
- 24:03Speaker 1: you know, pretend there's tight courage, back shoulder, you know,
- 24:06Speaker 1: make him throw throw it where only he can make
- 24:09Speaker 1: a play on the football. And he did that a
- 24:10Speaker 1: lot in his pro day. I noticed I was watching that.
- 24:13Speaker 1: I thought, well, that that's smart. That's smart to handle
- 24:15Speaker 1: it that way. I think, obviously, you know he's going
- 24:18Speaker 1: to be a first round guy. It's just a question
- 24:20Speaker 1: of where and when. But I don't think it's I
- 24:23Speaker 1: don't think the Cincinnati Bengals are gonna make that pick. No,
- 24:26Speaker 1: all right, let's get to it. With the eleventh pick
- 24:31Speaker 1: in the twenty nineteen NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select,
- 24:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna say Dillard because I think Williams isn't there.
- 24:40Speaker 1: But if Williams is there, Williams, but one of those
- 24:44Speaker 1: two guys, I would go with that, uh, you know,
- 24:47Speaker 1: with that offensive lineman. I think if Gary is there,
- 24:51Speaker 1: Shack Lawson's the guy I'm thinking of from trying to
- 24:53Speaker 1: think of from Clemson. He came out with Buffalo first
- 24:55Speaker 1: round edge rusher, and he had that shoulder issue. If
- 24:58Speaker 1: Shack loss If or Shaw Garry has a has a
- 25:01Speaker 1: shoulder issue like Shack Lawson. You know. Now now you're
- 25:05Speaker 1: looking at these subluxes that bad boys, looking at surgery
- 25:08Speaker 1: in a six months rehab um. So I mean the
- 25:12Speaker 1: thing about him, though, like we talked about great athletic talent,
- 25:17Speaker 1: just plays at a good level. When you have great talent,
- 25:19Speaker 1: you got to play better than a good level. And
- 25:22Speaker 1: you know that's that's this thing. And then sweat, you know,
- 25:25Speaker 1: sweat being there again, coaches on the staff can speak
- 25:28Speaker 1: to these and I don't know, I don't know where
- 25:31Speaker 1: they have them on the board. You know, we always
- 25:32Speaker 1: talk about the group guys. They'll have you know, one
- 25:35Speaker 1: through four, But on the big board one to ten,
- 25:39Speaker 1: one to twenty five, one to fifty. Do they have
- 25:41Speaker 1: the top two tackles on their board ahead of the
- 25:45Speaker 1: three and four edge rush guys. I don't know, but
- 25:48Speaker 1: we'll see, you know, I guess we'll probably find out. Um,
- 25:51Speaker 1: where do those linebackers been in on the big board?
- 25:54Speaker 1: You know, they're the top two linebackers obviously, where are
- 25:56Speaker 1: they on the big board? Though? Um, just knowing how
- 26:00Speaker 1: Mike Brown thinks, I could see him going offensive tackle
- 26:04Speaker 1: there and if if you and he the reason I'm
- 26:07Speaker 1: thinking Dillard Jonah Williams played left tackle, but Man Farrell
- 26:13Speaker 1: from Clemson gave him a hard way to go in
- 26:15Speaker 1: that bowl game. Looking at that tape, Jonah Williams didn't
- 26:18Speaker 1: have his best day and Farrell Farrell's one. See, guy
- 26:21Speaker 1: Farrell is the first round guy. He's he's not a
- 26:23Speaker 1: guy at eleven. You know, I don't think but I'm
- 26:26Speaker 1: not saying that. You know, he's chopped liver. He's a
- 26:28Speaker 1: good football player. But I think the safest left tackle
- 26:33Speaker 1: in my eyes watching is Dillard. That's why I think
- 26:36Speaker 1: they do that because you can always you can always
- 26:39Speaker 1: go to other spots from left tackle. It's hardest to
- 26:41Speaker 1: go to that left tackle spot because in the NFL
- 26:44Speaker 1: is changing a little bit. It used to be it
- 26:45Speaker 1: was automatic. The best pass rusher was the right defensive end.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Now in these sub packages they have, you know, rushers
- 26:51Speaker 1: everywhere that are are a factor. You have to have
- 26:53Speaker 1: pass protectors everywhere, and that's what okay, And you say,
- 26:57Speaker 1: all right, well what do you do with Cordy him
- 27:00Speaker 1: into guard? So you're not thinking Dillard starts at right
- 27:04Speaker 1: tackle to begin his career and then eventually bounces to
- 27:06Speaker 1: left when Cordy Glenn has done, You're thinking he's right
- 27:09Speaker 1: in there at left tackle. I think if he shows
- 27:11Speaker 1: himself in training camp to be the left best left tackle,
- 27:13Speaker 1: I'd play him at left tackle. And Bobby Hart shows that,
- 27:16Speaker 1: you know, he should be playing right tackle, play right tackle.
- 27:19Speaker 1: If Cordy plays left tackle well and he's healthy and
- 27:22Speaker 1: you know, engaged, yeah, and then it's a battle Bobby Hart,
- 27:26Speaker 1: and it's a battle those three tackles. The best guys
- 27:31Speaker 1: of those three tackles start and then if you if
- 27:34Speaker 1: you have to shuffle h Cordy goes inside plays some guard.
- 27:38Speaker 1: You got Miller and Cordy, two former Bills. You got
- 27:40Speaker 1: a buffalo tandem at guard. In college, Bowling was the
- 27:44Speaker 1: left tackle. Cordy Glenn was the left guard at Georgia.
- 27:46Speaker 1: So you know, he, uh, you can. You can do
- 27:50Speaker 1: that easier. It's hard. It's easier to go tackle to
- 27:53Speaker 1: guard um. But the thing, you know, the reason I
- 27:55Speaker 1: like Jonah Williams is, honestly, I think he'd be a
- 27:58Speaker 1: Pro Bowl guard potentially, even a Pro Bowl center potentially.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I think he played right tackle easier than left tackle,
- 28:05Speaker 1: but he can play left tackle. But in my eyes, athletically,
- 28:09Speaker 1: body type wise, watching him go, I think I think
- 28:13Speaker 1: Dillard Dillard being the guy he's he's he's bigger, faster,
- 28:17Speaker 1: you know, athletically, his numbers are are crazy. Again, you
- 28:21Speaker 1: know the nightmare I had a little bit, Am I
- 28:24Speaker 1: looking at? What am I looking at? I've seen this
- 28:27Speaker 1: playout and it didn't play out well, and it wouldn't
- 28:30Speaker 1: shock me if if the Bengals, it wouldn't shock me
- 28:34Speaker 1: if they go tackle in the first dance, second round,
- 28:37Speaker 1: that would shock me. Well, the reason it wouldn't shock
- 28:41Speaker 1: me if Howard's there from Alabama State in the second round,
- 28:45Speaker 1: because I think TuS Howard, Titus Howard. He is a
- 28:48Speaker 1: He's a first round talent. He started as a quarterback.
- 28:51Speaker 1: He was a quarterback at Alabama State, like Lane Johnson
- 28:54Speaker 1: with the Philadelphia Eagles when I was doing Oklahoma games.
- 28:57Speaker 1: He came to Oklahoma as a quarterback. Now he's, you know,
- 29:00Speaker 1: quarterback and moving the tight end. Beef him up now tackle,
- 29:03Speaker 1: Pro Bowl tackle. Howard's three hundred and twenty five pounds,
- 29:07Speaker 1: long arms, three time captain, He's kind of the face
- 29:09Speaker 1: of the program down there. The dude can play. He
- 29:13Speaker 1: can play. If Greg Little's there at the Bengal spot
- 29:16Speaker 1: in the second round, you got to think about the guy.
- 29:19Speaker 1: You know, and we've talked about how it didn't work
- 29:22Speaker 1: out with Cedric boy he uh and Jake Fisher, but
- 29:26Speaker 1: it has worked out at other positions where you know
- 29:29Speaker 1: you double down to make sure you get at least one,
- 29:31Speaker 1: and you know there's a there's a ton of a
- 29:33Speaker 1: ton of instances of it. You look at Mohammed Sanu
- 29:38Speaker 1: uh and Jones that you know that that worked out
- 29:41Speaker 1: where both guys are still playing. I mean I go
- 29:43Speaker 1: back to uh, David Versor and Chris Collinsworth. Chris Collinsworn
- 29:48Speaker 1: in the second round. You know it's like, okay, well
- 29:50Speaker 1: we think versus a guy, but boy Collinsworth's right there
- 29:53Speaker 1: with him, He's there in the second round. Oh my gosh,
- 29:55Speaker 1: we gotta take him. I turned out, I've turned out
- 29:58Speaker 1: pretty well. I mean, there's been a lot of cases
- 30:00Speaker 1: when they doubled down, more cases of it working with
- 30:03Speaker 1: the football team than not. But tragically it didn't work
- 30:05Speaker 1: out of tackle for him last time. Spikes and Simmons.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Spikes and Simmons another good one. Two first round guys
- 30:11Speaker 1: that you know that that's got it done. I mean
- 30:15Speaker 1: C J. Zama and Tyler Croft. You know they're both
- 30:18Speaker 1: both signed long contracts five six million bucks a year,
- 30:22Speaker 1: you know, and their contract extensions. So you know, you
- 30:25Speaker 1: get you get that one, that one working out. It's
- 30:29Speaker 1: it wouldn't it wouldn't. It wouldn't stun me. It would
- 30:33Speaker 1: surprise me, but it wouldn't stun me if they did that.
- 30:37Speaker 1: So for what it's worth, I think you will be
- 30:40Speaker 1: right if White and Bush are gone. If Bush is
- 30:44Speaker 1: there at number eleven, I think that's what the Bengals
- 30:48Speaker 1: will do, So I will make him my pick in
- 30:50Speaker 1: the first round. And here's my thinking. You've only got
- 30:54Speaker 1: two first round linebackers in this draft, and then in
- 30:56Speaker 1: some you know, experts whatever mock drafts, the next linebacker
- 31:01Speaker 1: doesn't come up until the third round. So I think
- 31:03Speaker 1: there's a big drop off between the two guys at
- 31:05Speaker 1: the top and then the next wave. It was the
- 31:08Speaker 1: biggest weakness on one of the worst defenses in NFL history.
- 31:12Speaker 1: I think historically the Bengals would not look at an
- 31:15Speaker 1: undersized linebacker that high in the draft. But the game
- 31:18Speaker 1: is changing. You've got your nickel and dime defense on
- 31:21Speaker 1: the field about three quarters of the time. Now they
- 31:24Speaker 1: need a sideline to sideline speed guy in the run
- 31:27Speaker 1: game and in the passing game. And the last time
- 31:30Speaker 1: this defense was good was when the will linebacker was good,
- 31:34Speaker 1: back when Vontes was healthy and engaged and not suspended whatever.
- 31:39Speaker 1: So to me, if Devin Bush is there universally graded
- 31:43Speaker 1: as a first round guy, I know you don't like
- 31:45Speaker 1: the size, I get it, but I still think that's
- 31:47Speaker 1: the guy they'll take a number eleven. I think it
- 31:49Speaker 1: very well could be. I mean, he's going to be
- 31:51Speaker 1: talked about. And again, like we said, if White is there,
- 31:54Speaker 1: he's going to be talked about. It would not be
- 31:56Speaker 1: a bad pick. I just I think that the league
- 32:01Speaker 1: um trends and shifts, and I think with so much
- 32:06Speaker 1: sub package being played, I mean starting and I agree
- 32:09Speaker 1: with you. I mean, Vantz Berfick was a three down
- 32:12Speaker 1: starting will linebacker. Where's almost two hundred fifty pounds or
- 32:15Speaker 1: it was two fifty had a hard time stand at
- 32:17Speaker 1: two fifty two fifty five. This guy, this guy is
- 32:23Speaker 1: even looks smaller on tape than what is what his
- 32:26Speaker 1: measure measurements are. But like we talked about before, he's
- 32:29Speaker 1: overcome it at every level. Overcame it at high school,
- 32:32Speaker 1: overcame it in the in the Big Ten, you know,
- 32:35Speaker 1: overcame it against really good football teams. I honestly, I
- 32:39Speaker 1: don't see a big gap between White and Bush. A
- 32:41Speaker 1: lot of people do. I don't. I think they're very, very,
- 32:44Speaker 1: very similar. I would have no problem if they took
- 32:47Speaker 1: Devin Bush. I wouldn't. But I guess the old school
- 32:51Speaker 1: in me says man I just I just think, you know,
- 32:55Speaker 1: Bill Belichick seems to be the guy that sets the
- 32:58Speaker 1: trends on a lot of ways. And you know when
- 33:01Speaker 1: he decided to just hunker down and throw that full
- 33:04Speaker 1: back back there and just started pounding people in that
- 33:07Speaker 1: running game, I think we want to see more and
- 33:09Speaker 1: more teams doing that against you know, the smaller sub packages,
- 33:13Speaker 1: because you're right, that's the way the league is now.
- 33:15Speaker 1: The league is seventy five to eighty percent nickel and
- 33:18Speaker 1: dime packages. That's just the way it's going, all right,
- 33:22Speaker 1: So you are taking Dillard or Jonah Williams if he's
- 33:26Speaker 1: there at number eleven, I'm taking Devin Bush. Let's go
- 33:30Speaker 1: to our dream scenario next. What would be the ideal
- 33:34Speaker 1: thing to happen the cards falling perfectly for the Bengals.
- 33:38Speaker 1: To me, it would be, you know, trade back they
- 33:42Speaker 1: number eleven comes Haskins. Is there? They getting multiple phone calls,
- 33:47Speaker 1: you know, like we said, you know, my Miami at
- 33:50Speaker 1: number thirteen, thinking hey we better trade up because Washington,
- 33:54Speaker 1: the Giants, I mean, be awesome. But the Bengals are
- 33:57Speaker 1: talking to Miami. Washington and the New York Giants pick
- 34:00Speaker 1: thirteen fifteen seventeen. You have three teams on the horn
- 34:03Speaker 1: saying Haskins is our guy. We've identified him as the
- 34:06Speaker 1: guy that we want to try to go get. And
- 34:08Speaker 1: I don't think that's going to be the case. I mean,
- 34:10Speaker 1: I don't think everybody is going to be interested in
- 34:13Speaker 1: moving up to a number eleven for Haskins. They've got Jones,
- 34:15Speaker 1: They've got a bunch of other guys that I'm sure
- 34:17Speaker 1: they're looking at. All teams are, But to me, that
- 34:22Speaker 1: would be unbelievable to move back to that to get
- 34:25Speaker 1: an extra third round pick because they own the sixth round,
- 34:28Speaker 1: but they don't have much currency, you know. Otherwise. As
- 34:32Speaker 1: my feeling is, and I agree with a lot of
- 34:34Speaker 1: people that I've talked to, this draft is about rounds
- 34:36Speaker 1: two through four. That's when the draft starts getting real serious.
- 34:39Speaker 1: And if you can have an extra pick in the
- 34:42Speaker 1: top ninety five picks or one hundred picks or whatever
- 34:44Speaker 1: the case may be, I think that would bode well
- 34:47Speaker 1: for the Bengals. All right, so we are in complete
- 34:50Speaker 1: agreement on our dream scenario. Here's what I have written down.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Haskins is there, and Washington at number fifteen desperately wants him.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Alex Smith will be thirty five. Is careers in jeopardy
- 35:01Speaker 1: after the brutal leg injury last year. Right now, their
- 35:04Speaker 1: quarterbacks are Colt McCoy and Josh Johnson. Not good. The
- 35:07Speaker 1: Dolphins are at thirteen. They're starting quarterback this year is
- 35:10Speaker 1: set to be Ryan Fitzpatrick. Not good. So the Redskins
- 35:14Speaker 1: decide we need to jump ahead of the Dolphins in
- 35:17Speaker 1: order to get Haskins. They make the deal with the Bengals.
- 35:21Speaker 1: So the Bengals move backward from eleven to fifteen. And
- 35:24Speaker 1: I looked at one of those NFL draft charts. The
- 35:27Speaker 1: eleventh pick in the draft, according to the one that
- 35:29Speaker 1: I looked at, is worth twelve hundred and fifty points.
- 35:34Speaker 1: The fifteenth pick in the draft is worth ten fifties.
- 35:37Speaker 1: So there's a two hundred point difference between the Bengals
- 35:41Speaker 1: pick and the Redskins pick. The Redskins third round pick
- 35:44Speaker 1: is worth two hundred and ten points on the draft board.
- 35:48Speaker 1: So here's the deal. The Bengals move back, They get
- 35:52Speaker 1: the Redskins first round pick and third round pick, and
- 35:56Speaker 1: they give the Redskins one of their sixth to make
- 35:59Speaker 1: up that ten point difference. There's your deal. Now, the
- 36:02Speaker 1: bad thing, in my opinion, if they make this deal
- 36:04Speaker 1: is that Bush will no longer be there. If there's
- 36:06Speaker 1: any chance he's there at eleven, I don't think he'll
- 36:09Speaker 1: be there at fifteen. So they lose out on the
- 36:11Speaker 1: chance to get Devin Bush, get lineman. You still get
- 36:14Speaker 1: your linemen. And what it does do is it allows
- 36:16Speaker 1: you to address four positions of need instead of three.
- 36:20Speaker 1: So to me, they desperately need a linebacker, they need
- 36:23Speaker 1: another defensive lineman, they desperately need an offensive tackle. And
- 36:27Speaker 1: to me, I think tight end is a huge area
- 36:29Speaker 1: of need because of Tyler Eifford's injury history. So now
- 36:32Speaker 1: you can hit all four of those spots in the
- 36:35Speaker 1: first three rounds by trading back four spots. I agree
- 36:38Speaker 1: with you. And also here's another factor, and next factor
- 36:41Speaker 1: Josh Rosen, the Josh Rosen factor at quarterback. There's no
- 36:45Speaker 1: way in hell I don't care they're saying, okay, well,
- 36:49Speaker 1: both these young quarterbacks would be on a rookie deal.
- 36:53Speaker 1: That quarterback room would be toxic. You got a guy
- 36:55Speaker 1: that was the tenth pick of the draft. I mean
- 36:57Speaker 1: the Arizona Cardinals last year moved from fifteen to thirteen
- 37:01Speaker 1: and gave up a third and a fifth rounder to
- 37:03Speaker 1: do it. So look at the inventory in the capitol
- 37:06Speaker 1: they gave up last year to move up to Josh Rosen.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Now you take a quarterback with the first pick of
- 37:11Speaker 1: the draft, Josh Rosen is not going to be an
- 37:13Speaker 1: Arizona Cardinal if they do that. I think it's interesting.
- 37:17Speaker 1: You know, Randy Moss when he was traded to New England,
- 37:21Speaker 1: he went for a physical to New England and people
- 37:23Speaker 1: found out about it. Got to start tracking. Is Josh
- 37:26Speaker 1: Rosen going anywhere this week before the draft? Because you
- 37:29Speaker 1: got to get a physical, make sure everything's okay there,
- 37:31Speaker 1: and they'll try to do it, you know, espionage undercover
- 37:34Speaker 1: as much as they possibly can. But there are already
- 37:37Speaker 1: a ton of teams, I'll guarantee you, Miami, Washington, the Giants,
- 37:41Speaker 1: they're all talking to Arizona. What would it take to
- 37:44Speaker 1: get Josh Rosen? Because if Josh Rosen came out in
- 37:47Speaker 1: this draft, he would have either been the number one
- 37:49Speaker 1: or number two quarterback in this draft. So Josh Rosen
- 37:53Speaker 1: could significantly affect two drafts in a row. A team
- 37:57Speaker 1: moved up five spots from fifteen to ten to get
- 37:59Speaker 1: on now they're going to trade them, and he'll affect
- 38:04Speaker 1: the order of the quarterbacks potentially, you know, in this
- 38:06Speaker 1: year's draft. So I think that Josh Rosen factor could
- 38:09Speaker 1: be massive and the Bengals will be dealing with that
- 38:11Speaker 1: a little bit, as will everybody else. With eleven overall picks,
- 38:15Speaker 1: When did the Bengals pick a quarterback? Not until Day three.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I don't think it'll be Day one or day two, because,
- 38:24Speaker 1: like you said, the needs, the other needs they have,
- 38:26Speaker 1: um you know, they'll they'll address it. And I think
- 38:30Speaker 1: I think that, uh, I think that not only I
- 38:32Speaker 1: don't think offensive tackler. I think linebacker. I think offensive
- 38:36Speaker 1: line linebacker. They could double down in multiple spots with
- 38:40Speaker 1: eleven picks. If they trade back and get twelve, they
- 38:43Speaker 1: can double down in three spots and still have six
- 38:45Speaker 1: other picks. Of course, you know a bunch would be
- 38:47Speaker 1: in the sixth round, but they'd still have a bunch
- 38:50Speaker 1: of picks to deal with. So that'd be interesting if
- 38:53Speaker 1: it could, if it could pan out that way. I
- 38:56Speaker 1: really think when it comes to quarterback the Bengals, I
- 38:59Speaker 1: think let's build it up around Andy Dalton for one
- 39:04Speaker 1: more shot. We still believe in him. We still think
- 39:07Speaker 1: he's a guy that in twenty fifteen could have not
- 39:09Speaker 1: only won a playoff game, but maybe won several playoff
- 39:13Speaker 1: games before he broke his thumb. That's how well the
- 39:15Speaker 1: team was playing that year. So I think their approach is,
- 39:20Speaker 1: we've got a new offensive minded coaching staff, let's build
- 39:23Speaker 1: up the talent around Andy and take a run at it.
- 39:26Speaker 1: And that's why I don't think they'll take Haskins or
- 39:28Speaker 1: anybody with one of their top, you know, couple of picks.
- 39:32Speaker 1: I do think they'll take one. I'm thinking maybe the
- 39:34Speaker 1: fifth round, same round they took a J. McCarron, some
- 39:37Speaker 1: sort of you know Gardner Minshoe Greer from West Virginia,
- 39:42Speaker 1: somebody in that you know, that realm that they think,
- 39:46Speaker 1: you know, this is a guy that that looks more
- 39:48Speaker 1: like a really good potential backup quarterback that you could
- 39:51Speaker 1: win with if you had to. But let's hold off
- 39:54Speaker 1: on using one of our top picks for now. Yeah,
- 39:57Speaker 1: And I think if you go with Kyler Murray, if
- 40:02Speaker 1: Arizona goes with him, they are committing to a specific
- 40:06Speaker 1: style of offense that they're going to run. It's like,
- 40:09Speaker 1: you know, look at look at what Washington did. They
- 40:11Speaker 1: won RG three and they went Kirk Cousins in the
- 40:14Speaker 1: same draft, and it worked out where Kirk Cousins was
- 40:17Speaker 1: the guy that went to the Pro Bowl and made
- 40:18Speaker 1: all the money in RG three flamed out with an injury.
- 40:21Speaker 1: RG three was a straight line track guy, but he
- 40:24Speaker 1: didn't have to make him miss. He couldn't even slide.
- 40:26Speaker 1: RG three couldn't slide to the ground to protect himself. Weird.
- 40:29Speaker 1: You know, as athletic as he was, wasn't athletic enough
- 40:32Speaker 1: to do some simple things. But they're two different style
- 40:38Speaker 1: of quarterbacks. RG three gets injured, you have you have
- 40:40Speaker 1: to have two different separate offenses. And that's what you're
- 40:43Speaker 1: doing with Kyler Murray in most cases. You know, Baker
- 40:46Speaker 1: Mayfield is a Kyler Murray type guy. Obviously they did
- 40:49Speaker 1: the same things at Oklahoma. But if you have a
- 40:51Speaker 1: real that that type of quarterback, I mean to me,
- 40:55Speaker 1: you're making a huge commitment if you're the Arizona Cardinals
- 40:59Speaker 1: to say, all right, we're gonna junk everything. Cliff Kingsbury
- 41:02Speaker 1: is a quarterback guru. He has an offensive philosophy of
- 41:05Speaker 1: Texas Tech. You know he's gonna throw it he's gonna
- 41:09Speaker 1: have a mobile quarterback that can change the launch point.
- 41:12Speaker 1: But it's gonna be interesting. It will be very interesting
- 41:15Speaker 1: to see what they do with the other people at
- 41:19Speaker 1: the quarterback position, because if he goes down, what do
- 41:22Speaker 1: you got? Then you're gonna have to implement a whole
- 41:24Speaker 1: new style of offense that Cliff Kingsbury doesn't necessarily even
- 41:27Speaker 1: want to implement. All right, you ready to take a
- 41:30Speaker 1: stab at the Bengal second and third round picks. Let's
- 41:35Speaker 1: go with the second round. This is the forty second
- 41:37Speaker 1: pick overall. Now, admittedly this is really a crapshoot. You
- 41:40Speaker 1: don't know you know who's going to get selected before
- 41:43Speaker 1: the Bengals are on the board with the forty second
- 41:45Speaker 1: pick overall, But what the heck, we'll take a shot
- 41:49Speaker 1: the Bengals second round selection. So let's say that you
- 41:53Speaker 1: know your first round selection comes true and they have
- 41:56Speaker 1: taken Dillard, the offensive tackle from Washington State. Who do
- 42:00Speaker 1: you see them taking then in the second round? In
- 42:02Speaker 1: the second round, I could see him if he's there,
- 42:05Speaker 1: and I don't think he will be. I think he's
- 42:07Speaker 1: gonna be late one early two Dexter Lawrence Clemson six
- 42:12Speaker 1: four three hundred and forty two pounds. He's got a
- 42:14Speaker 1: seven foot wingspan exactly defensive defensive line. Um, he's he's
- 42:21Speaker 1: he's a load. There's no question about it. He's he's
- 42:24Speaker 1: he's a factor. I mean, Clemson could literally have four
- 42:28Speaker 1: defensive linemen. Three of them probably going to be first round,
- 42:32Speaker 1: the fourth might be. If not, he's going to go
- 42:35Speaker 1: early in the second if only two go all, all
- 42:38Speaker 1: four of them going to be gone very early in
- 42:40Speaker 1: the second round. And this this guy is uh, you know,
- 42:44Speaker 1: a little over five flat forty. It's not like he's
- 42:46Speaker 1: a you know, he's a he's a big old hog
- 42:48Speaker 1: that can't move. He's a he's got some significant long arms,
- 42:53Speaker 1: big hands, big old muckers. When he grabs you, he
- 42:55Speaker 1: puts you in the vice. You know, he can he
- 42:57Speaker 1: can leverage you when he locks you out. And that's
- 42:59Speaker 1: that's the thing that you that's that's key as well.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Not only a big body guy. He gets his big
- 43:04Speaker 1: hands on you and he bench presses you away from
- 43:06Speaker 1: him and you're seven feet away. He's got separation. He
- 43:09Speaker 1: can discard you, you know, shuck you like an era
- 43:12Speaker 1: corn and be right in the right in the place
- 43:14Speaker 1: to make a play. So that would be my dream
- 43:17Speaker 1: pick in the second round would be Dexter Lawrence. But
- 43:20Speaker 1: I don't I don't think that's gonna happen. I think
- 43:22Speaker 1: that is a pipe dream. And you know, potentially if
- 43:25Speaker 1: a guy like Mack Wilson might be there out of
- 43:28Speaker 1: Alabama and the linebacker out of Alabama, UM, you know,
- 43:32Speaker 1: go go that route. Six pounds, not caught, not as
- 43:35Speaker 1: fast as the others for seven ish type guy, but great,
- 43:39Speaker 1: you know football IQ. Um. You know another guy in
- 43:43Speaker 1: and out of Notre Dame. Um, I don't think he's
- 43:46Speaker 1: second round. I think he's a little bit later. He
- 43:48Speaker 1: might be my third round guy. But Tevn Coney out
- 43:52Speaker 1: of out of Notre Dame would be a linebacker type
- 43:55Speaker 1: guy that they might go if they don't go you know,
- 43:57Speaker 1: Devin Bush in the first round. I know Coney came
- 43:59Speaker 1: in for a visit, so clearly they're at least kicking
- 44:02Speaker 1: the tires on him. Yeah, I mean I think I
- 44:04Speaker 1: think he would be a you know, a good possibility there.
- 44:09Speaker 1: So I think another defensive lineman in the in the
- 44:13Speaker 1: third round potentially is Western Illinois Klin Saunders, big guy,
- 44:17Speaker 1: you know, a little under six one, three hundred twenty
- 44:19Speaker 1: five pounds, very athletic. I mean, if he's there in
- 44:22Speaker 1: the third round, they could be going that route if
- 44:25Speaker 1: they go linebacker and round two defensive line. I think
- 44:27Speaker 1: if they go offensive lineman with the first pick, they
- 44:30Speaker 1: start attacking defense with the second and third round. With
- 44:33Speaker 1: the deficiencies we're talking about, and if there is some
- 44:36Speaker 1: some edge rusher in some way, shape or form that
- 44:38Speaker 1: has slid to they're picking the second round, I think
- 44:41Speaker 1: they jump on it and then you know, then there's
- 44:43Speaker 1: obviously a little bit of a drop off from that
- 44:46Speaker 1: edge rush standpoint. That's why you know, even though these
- 44:49Speaker 1: guys have medical issues potentially um you know, Sweat and Gary,
- 44:54Speaker 1: you still have to talk about him at eleven because
- 44:56Speaker 1: once those four guys go, it's it's a drop, just
- 44:59Speaker 1: like the two line backers a drop. The four edge
- 45:02Speaker 1: guys a drop. But those might only be a couple
- 45:05Speaker 1: of edge guys because of the injury factor. It's going
- 45:07Speaker 1: to be interesting to see how it all plays out.
- 45:09Speaker 1: And we know that every team has a different philosophy.
- 45:12Speaker 1: Some guys will take these guys off the board if
- 45:15Speaker 1: they have this type of injury. You know, I shoulder
- 45:18Speaker 1: problem or particularly a hard issue. Others were got no
- 45:21Speaker 1: problem in role. But I've already heard a lot of
- 45:24Speaker 1: Bengals fans and other people around the league and said
- 45:26Speaker 1: to me, are they gonna draft another injured player? Ll
- 45:28Speaker 1: they drafted Billy Price last year and look what happened.
- 45:31Speaker 1: You know, they're gonna draft another injury player. Well it
- 45:33Speaker 1: wasn't his pack. He had another injury. And you just
- 45:36Speaker 1: you can't control injuries. You can't you know, determine. Oh yeah, boy,
- 45:40Speaker 1: in the future, he's gonna have, you know, Liz Frank
- 45:43Speaker 1: type problem. And you know, but I think I think
- 45:47Speaker 1: Bengals fans would like to see guys that are one
- 45:50Speaker 1: physically cleaned from an injury standpoint, being that eleventh pick
- 45:54Speaker 1: in the draft, and maybe even the second and the
- 45:55Speaker 1: third rounder. I get it a way. He had the
- 45:58Speaker 1: torn acl John Ross was injured before the Bengals took him.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Price tourist pack doing the bench press at the Combine.
- 46:05Speaker 1: So there has been a recent history there is, and
- 46:08Speaker 1: it's you know, I think, I think when you look
- 46:10Speaker 1: at it, that's another reason I like Dillard Clean is
- 46:14Speaker 1: a whistle, you know, the big lineman. I think the
- 46:17Speaker 1: offensive line guys are pretty clean. I'm not saying that
- 46:20Speaker 1: you know, Bush or White have any injury history, but
- 46:23Speaker 1: when you look at it, you think, all right, from
- 46:25Speaker 1: a durability standpoint, over the long haul the pounding in
- 46:30Speaker 1: the National Football League, a big, strong offensive lineman or
- 46:35Speaker 1: an undersized linebacker that's going to be battling those hog molleys,
- 46:39Speaker 1: you know, day after day after day. I think, you
- 46:41Speaker 1: know again again, I guess I'm thinking old school, um,
- 46:45Speaker 1: but I do think I think the league is gonna
- 46:48Speaker 1: said it a couple of times now. I think it
- 46:49Speaker 1: is gonna go Bill Belichick through it out there. Everybody's
- 46:52Speaker 1: going to have a full back, slashed height end guy,
- 46:55Speaker 1: you know, wing back type that they can line up
- 46:58Speaker 1: in that I formation with the Bengals, Hubbard, Sam Herbert
- 47:01Speaker 1: going there and just start pounding those little bodies, you know,
- 47:04Speaker 1: for Joe Mixon and Giovanni Bernard. All right, my second
- 47:08Speaker 1: round pick, after I've taken Devin Bush eleventh overall, I'm
- 47:11Speaker 1: going to take one of the two second round tackles
- 47:14Speaker 1: that you mentioned earlier, so Titus Howard from Alabama State.
- 47:17Speaker 1: The Bengals historically don't like the small school guys. I
- 47:21Speaker 1: get it, but everything else looks good. He's big, six
- 47:24Speaker 1: five three twenty He faced Auburn at Alabama State, did
- 47:28Speaker 1: not give up any sacks or pressures in that game,
- 47:31Speaker 1: graded out very well at the Senior Bowl. So yep,
- 47:34Speaker 1: so Titus Howard. If he's gone, then Greg Little. You
- 47:37Speaker 1: mentioned him from Ole Miss, the bug a boo from
- 47:41Speaker 1: like a Bad Mojo. Perspective with him is that he's
- 47:44Speaker 1: from Cedrical Boy's High School, but he was the number
- 47:49Speaker 1: one offensive line recruit in the country, went to Ole Miss.
- 47:53Speaker 1: Long arms thirty five and a quarter inch arms, eighty
- 47:56Speaker 1: five inch wing span, longest arms of any tackle, good feat.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Maybe didn't play as well as the measurables in his
- 48:03Speaker 1: college career, a little bit inconsistent, maybe a little more
- 48:06Speaker 1: of a finesse guy than you would like. But second round,
- 48:09Speaker 1: you're hoping that Jim Turner can get him to play
- 48:12Speaker 1: up to his potential. I think Little will be there.
- 48:15Speaker 1: I don't think Howard will. I don't know Howard's There's
- 48:17Speaker 1: no secret with Howard anymore. It's out. The dude is
- 48:21Speaker 1: He's I think, got a potential to be special, And
- 48:25Speaker 1: like I said, he's the face of that Alabama State
- 48:27Speaker 1: team three time captain. What does that tell you about
- 48:30Speaker 1: the guy? So you're talking about all of those traits
- 48:34Speaker 1: and characteristics. If if I knew he were there in
- 48:38Speaker 1: the second round, I wouldn't even mess with the tackle
- 48:40Speaker 1: in the first round. I think I think he I
- 48:43Speaker 1: would not go eleven. I would not go to eleven
- 48:46Speaker 1: with Titus Howard. I think that is a little bit
- 48:48Speaker 1: too rich. But man, I'd do a one SEA on
- 48:50Speaker 1: him all day, every day. I'd do a two A
- 48:52Speaker 1: on him. And that's why I'm not sure if the
- 48:54Speaker 1: Bengals are gonna be able to experience him at that
- 48:57Speaker 1: stage of the second round. I think they do have
- 48:59Speaker 1: a better chance of getting little That's why I thought.
- 49:01Speaker 1: You know, I'm thinking, man, if they if they go
- 49:04Speaker 1: that route, um, you know, people people are It's it's
- 49:08Speaker 1: almost a split camp. Cordy Glenn underachieves. Wasn't wasn't you know? Engaged?
- 49:13Speaker 1: Wasn't this? Wasn't that? Um. Bobby Hart signing was caused
- 49:18Speaker 1: as much negativity in Bengaldoom as a lot of recent signings.
- 49:21Speaker 1: For sure, you know, maybe they do go two tackles,
- 49:24Speaker 1: but with other needs that would that would be a
- 49:27Speaker 1: surprise for sure. All right to the third round, the
- 49:31Speaker 1: seventy second pick overall in the draft. You're on the clock,
- 49:36Speaker 1: Dave Lapham, who do you select? Well again, I'm gonna
- 49:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna either go um if I go defensive lineman
- 49:43Speaker 1: Lawrence in the in the in the third round, if
- 49:45Speaker 1: he's a second round if he's there, I'm gonna go linebacker.
- 49:48Speaker 1: If I go, uh linebacker in the second round, like
- 49:51Speaker 1: I was talking about with Mack Wilson, Uh, then I'll
- 49:54Speaker 1: go a defensive lineman in the third round. So my
- 49:56Speaker 1: my third round defensive lineman is Klin Saunders, big boy
- 50:00Speaker 1: out of Western Illinois, a little under six one three,
- 50:03Speaker 1: under twenty five pounds, very athletic. I thought, I think
- 50:06Speaker 1: the Bengals, you know, being right at the cusp of
- 50:09Speaker 1: three A or beginning of end of three A or
- 50:12Speaker 1: beginning of three B, that would be a you know,
- 50:15Speaker 1: a decent pick for them. And if he's not available,
- 50:19Speaker 1: then I would go with Coney as a as a
- 50:21Speaker 1: third round linebacker. I think that's good value. I think
- 50:24Speaker 1: second round might be is too rich for him. I
- 50:27Speaker 1: think third round value value for a guy like Coney
- 50:30Speaker 1: would be there. He's very, very intelligent football IQ as
- 50:34Speaker 1: well as overall IQ having matriculated at Notre Dame. All right,
- 50:40Speaker 1: in the third round, I am going back to Michigan.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Two of my top three picks are going to be
- 50:44Speaker 1: from Michigan. I'm going for Chase Winovich as my edge rusher.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Pro football focus would be doing cartwheels. They've actually got
- 50:52Speaker 1: him as a late first round on their top two
- 50:54Speaker 1: hundred and fifty players board. Most of the other boards
- 50:58Speaker 1: that you look at seem to think he's a second round,
- 51:00Speaker 1: third round guy. So I'm I'm saying that he somehow
- 51:03Speaker 1: slides to seventy two because he's a little under size
- 51:06Speaker 1: six three two fifty six but tests off the charts
- 51:09Speaker 1: four point five nine speed, great production at Michigan, more
- 51:14Speaker 1: productive than Gary even though Gary's going to be the
- 51:16Speaker 1: first round pick. So and they did bring in Winovich
- 51:20Speaker 1: for a visit, so they're interested in him. I think
- 51:22Speaker 1: they get Bush in the first round, either Howard or
- 51:25Speaker 1: Little in the second, and Chase Winovich falls to them
- 51:28Speaker 1: at number seventy two overall as an edge rusher, I'm
- 51:31Speaker 1: seeing him and everybody's top fifty now I think I
- 51:34Speaker 1: don't think if he's there, I would jump on that,
- 51:37Speaker 1: but I don't think. I don't think he's gonna be there.
- 51:40Speaker 1: But that would be that would be amazing if he would,
- 51:42Speaker 1: if he would be there, But again he's he's he's
- 51:46Speaker 1: no secret anymore. And he really wasn't a secret. I mean,
- 51:49Speaker 1: he was the guy that was was, you know, putting
- 51:51Speaker 1: on all the pressure. Richard gary Is was the number
- 51:55Speaker 1: one recruit out of high school Rochard gary He was
- 51:57Speaker 1: the number one guy in the country. And he didn't perform,
- 52:01Speaker 1: like I said, great measurables, just good performance. Oneevich has good,
- 52:06Speaker 1: very good measurables. Great performance. I mean, that's what you're
- 52:09Speaker 1: looking for. I would I would run to the bank
- 52:12Speaker 1: if he were there at number three, Dan, that would
- 52:14Speaker 1: be awesome, that would be a real dream. But I
- 52:17Speaker 1: just I'd be stunned if he's there. So if not
- 52:21Speaker 1: one of the other good edge rushers that slide, you know,
- 52:24Speaker 1: there's going to be somebody that the Bengals have a
- 52:27Speaker 1: second round grade on that's there in the third round
- 52:30Speaker 1: because their board is different from other people's boards. There'll
- 52:33Speaker 1: be somebody Jalen Ferguson from Louisiana Tech. You know, forty
- 52:39Speaker 1: five career sacks, but a small school guy in Conference USA.
- 52:43Speaker 1: Maybe he slides, he's another guy they brought in for
- 52:45Speaker 1: a visit. But somebody like that that the Bengals like
- 52:49Speaker 1: more than other teams. And he's there at number seventy two. Yeah,
- 52:52Speaker 1: I mean there's there's always somebody that the light goes on,
- 52:56Speaker 1: or they were used improperly, like at Oliver was abused
- 53:00Speaker 1: at Houston. I mean, I couldn't believe they had him
- 53:03Speaker 1: playing over the nose in the defensive line. He is
- 53:06Speaker 1: a three technique by everybody's standards and everybody's measurements. And
- 53:10Speaker 1: you talk to me, that says a lot about his
- 53:13Speaker 1: character that he would do that and not bitchman and
- 53:15Speaker 1: complaining every single day of his football life at Houston.
- 53:19Speaker 1: So he's a team guy, you know, and that to
- 53:22Speaker 1: me that that's a plus for him. But you hate
- 53:24Speaker 1: to see things like that. A lot of times guys
- 53:27Speaker 1: are stuck in a system at college. I mean, you know,
- 53:30Speaker 1: the legendary Paul Brown went in scouted Booby Clark at
- 53:34Speaker 1: Bethune Cookman and they were playing him at tight end
- 53:36Speaker 1: and he's like, huh, that guy, that guy's a fullback.
- 53:39Speaker 1: I've always had, you know, maryon Motley, the big body
- 53:43Speaker 1: Booby Clark is my fullback. So talent evaluators, Paul Brown,
- 53:49Speaker 1: Bill wallsh they'll see a guy and say, he's this
- 53:52Speaker 1: in my scheme, in my West Coast offense, he's this.
- 53:55Speaker 1: Even though they haven't doing that, they're wasting this guy.
- 53:57Speaker 1: And that's where that's where you're making your money. That's
- 54:00Speaker 1: why you know, people are saying there are so many
- 54:04Speaker 1: prospects in this draft. Rounds two, three, and four, that's
- 54:07Speaker 1: where you're going to make your money. And third and
- 54:10Speaker 1: fourth round are going to be very, very interesting for
- 54:13Speaker 1: every team, including the Cincinnati Bengals. Final question for you,
- 54:17Speaker 1: do you think that the coaching change has a big
- 54:19Speaker 1: impact on the draft? You know, I think so for
- 54:24Speaker 1: the reason I said before, the ten of them were
- 54:26Speaker 1: in the college ranks as coaches last year. That's great
- 54:31Speaker 1: intel for Duke Tobin and his people. But I think, honestly,
- 54:35Speaker 1: I think this year in particulars as this staff was assembled,
- 54:39Speaker 1: it was assembled fairly late. Marvin Lewis had his way
- 54:43Speaker 1: of doing things in a draft room, coming from the
- 54:46Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Steelers, the Baltimore Ravens. Obviously, you know Zach was
- 54:51Speaker 1: with the Rams and some of the coaches and staffed
- 54:53Speaker 1: with other organizations, but not necessarily having the involvement they
- 54:58Speaker 1: had here with the Bengals. In my mind, this will
- 55:01Speaker 1: be more of a Duke Tobin draft. I think Duke
- 55:04Speaker 1: is going to drive this draft like he's never driven
- 55:06Speaker 1: a draft. I think he's in. He's the bus driver.
- 55:09Speaker 1: He's driving the bus. And I'm not saying that the
- 55:12Speaker 1: coaches won't have any input. They'll have a lot of input.
- 55:14Speaker 1: Like I said from a oh, I know this about
- 55:17Speaker 1: this guy that nobody else knows. I was with him
- 55:19Speaker 1: for four years. I was with him for three years.
- 55:21Speaker 1: I know all about this guy. But I think I
- 55:24Speaker 1: think that in terms of, you know, decision making, and
- 55:28Speaker 1: I think Duke's Duke's vote is going to carry a
- 55:30Speaker 1: lot of weight. You know, with Mike Brown, as he's
- 55:32Speaker 1: making his final decisions, everybody will get up and still
- 55:35Speaker 1: give their pitches. And but I think I think the
- 55:37Speaker 1: relationship between Duke and his scouts and the coaching staff
- 55:42Speaker 1: is in its early infancy stages. You know, it's it's
- 55:45Speaker 1: going through a metamorphosis for sure. So I think the
- 55:47Speaker 1: guy that is going to steer the ship, that has
- 55:50Speaker 1: all the experience is Duke Tobin. We've been talking about
- 55:54Speaker 1: the draft for nearly an hour. I could do another hour.
- 55:57Speaker 1: This is fun, I know, that's why that's why they
- 56:00Speaker 1: get great ratings. I mean, everybody, everybody, uh, you know,
- 56:03Speaker 1: wants to see what the new blood is going to
- 56:04Speaker 1: be with their particular franchise. And I do think that
- 56:08Speaker 1: a lot of organizations around the league, of the Bengals
- 56:10Speaker 1: being one of them, have had some success in some
- 56:13Speaker 1: a lot of success with the draft, draft, develop and retain,
- 56:17Speaker 1: you know, getting those second contracts, the second bite of
- 56:20Speaker 1: the apple. And in a lot of cases, like we
- 56:21Speaker 1: talked about, you know, Croft has done it elsewhere. Other
- 56:24Speaker 1: guys Birkhead is going to be doing it elsewhere. But
- 56:28Speaker 1: the Bengals for a good part of last year had
- 56:31Speaker 1: the most players on the NFL rosters that they originally
- 56:35Speaker 1: brought into the league through draft and college free agents
- 56:38Speaker 1: that they signed than any other team in the National
- 56:40Speaker 1: Football League. That speaks to what Duke Tobin, his guys
- 56:44Speaker 1: and the coaching staff and everybody involved with the draft.
- 56:47Speaker 1: That speaks volumes, I mean, tip of the cap to
- 56:50Speaker 1: their their process. Their process has been working. Next week
- 56:54Speaker 1: we'll talk about all the guys they picked. That'll be
- 56:57Speaker 1: fun too. Here you go, you get your you get
- 56:59Speaker 1: your Chris presence, and then you get a chance to
- 57:02Speaker 1: unwrap them and take them out in the field and
- 57:03Speaker 1: see what they look like. But it's like it is,
- 57:05Speaker 1: it's like Santa Claus and say, oh, what present are
- 57:08Speaker 1: we going to get here at linebacker? What are we
- 57:10Speaker 1: going to get here at this position group? So it's
- 57:13Speaker 1: an interesting dynamic. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, be sure
