- 0:11G'day, friends. I'm Sean Connery, host of this
- 0:15podcast, The Intersection of Philosophy and Spirituality.
- 0:20And welcome to the 8th of the 8th International Infinity Day.
- 0:27Why is today International Infinity Day?
- 0:29Well put that generously proportioned 8 on its side ha
- 0:34ha, the symbol of Infinity. Thus today International
- 0:40Infinity Day. Hello friends, it's also normal
- 0:46Sean here. Today is International Infinity
- 0:49Day, so I wonder what conversations we can start today
- 0:54talking about the fact that we are not finite, about the fact
- 0:57that we go on and on and on beyond this life.
- 1:01Wouldn't that be interesting? I challenge you, dear friends,
- 1:06to begin a conversation about Infinity today where they might
- 1:11share an opinion, ask you about yours, and you can let them know
- 1:13what you're going to be doing in Infinity.
- 1:16What an opportunity. Happy International Infinity
- 1:20Day, friends. We are going to continue reading
- 1:23about our faith, which holds us securely in the hands of an
- 1:28infinite God for Infinity, as we read together First Corinthians
- 1:34chapter 4. So look at Apollos and me as
- 1:48mere servants of Christ who have been put in charge of explaining
- 1:52God's mysteries. Now a person who was put in
- 1:56charge as a manager must be faithful.
- 1:59As for me, it matters very little how I might be evaluated
- 2:04by you or any human authority. I don't even trust my own
- 2:08judgement on this point. My conscience is clear, but that
- 2:12doesn't prove I'm right. It is the Lord Himself who will
- 2:17examine me and decide. So don't make judgments about
- 2:22anyone ahead of time before the Lord returns, for He will bring
- 2:27our darkest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives.
- 2:33Then God will give to each one whatever praise is due.
- 2:38Dear brothers and sisters, I have used Apollos and myself to
- 2:42illustrate what I've been saying.
- 2:45If you pay attention to what I've quoted from the Scriptures,
- 2:48you won't be proud of one of your leaders at the expense of
- 2:51another. For what gives you the right to
- 2:54make such a judgement? What do you have that God hasn't
- 2:58given you? And if everything you have is
- 3:01from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?
- 3:05You think you already have everything you need?
- 3:09You think you are already rich. You have begun to reign in God's
- 3:14Kingdom without us. I wish you really were reigning
- 3:18already, for then we would be reigning with you.
- 3:23Instead, I sometimes think God has put us apostles on display,
- 3:29like prisoners of war at the end of a victor's parade, condemned
- 3:33to die. We have become a spectacle to
- 3:36the entire world, to people and angels alike.
- 3:41Our dedication to Christ makes us look like fools, but you
- 3:46claim to be so wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are so
- 3:52powerful. You are honoured, but we are
- 3:56ridiculed. Even now.
- 3:59We go hungry and thirsty and we don't have enough clothes to
- 4:03keep warm. We are often beaten and have no
- 4:07home. We work wearily with our own
- 4:10hands to earn our living. We bless those who curse us.
- 4:15We are patient with those who abuse us.
- 4:18We appeal gently when evil things are said about us.
- 4:23Yet we are treated like the world's garbage, like
- 4:27everybody's trash, right up to the present moment.
- 4:31I'm not writing these things to shame you, but to warn you as my
- 4:35beloved children. For even if you had 10,000
- 4:40others to teach you about Christ, you have only one
- 4:44spiritual father. For I became your father in
- 4:47Christ Jesus when I preached the good news to you.
- 4:51So I urge you to imitate me. That's why I have sent Timothy,
- 4:57my beloved and faithful child in the Lord.
- 5:01He will remind you of how I follow Christ Jesus, just as I
- 5:06teach all the churches wherever I go.
- 5:10Some of you have become arrogant, thinking I will not
- 5:13visit you again. But I will come, and soon, if
- 5:17the Lord lets me. And then I'll find out whether
- 5:20these arrogant people just give pretentious speeches or whether
- 5:25they really have God's power. For the Kingdom of God is not
- 5:30just a lot of talk, it is living by God's power.
- 5:36Which do you choose? Should I come with a rod to
- 5:40punish you, or should I come with love and a gentle spirit?
- 5:55Our Lord, you have a Kingdom which is so profoundly different
- 5:59from the world around us, where your Kingdom is about living in
- 6:06God's power. It's living in the power that
- 6:11enables us to love and forgive and act gently and kindly, even
- 6:19when that would seem to make no sense at all.
- 6:24So Jesus, I pray for that power. I pray for that power for each
- 6:30one of us. Not that we would be powerful,
- 6:33but that we would know how to submit to your power, to your
- 6:38Kingdom, to your way, because you are our God and we worship
- 6:46you, and not just with fancy words, but with our hearts and
- 6:51our lives. So we come before you.
- 6:54And just as your Apostle Paul wrote, we put our needs second
- 7:02to the needs of you and your Kingdom.
- 7:05Come Holy Spirit, we pray all of this in the saving name of
- 7:10Jesus, Amen.
