Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Here with Anton Carter, Hendrick Blunqus Bova Zanetts, Wayne Gretzky Blarna.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Panthers are back to back champs. Heard with Jackie with
- 0:10Speaker 1: Brad march Jan saying the secret of the success is
- 0:13Speaker 1: that this team's a family. And you heard an emotional
- 0:17Speaker 1: matt to get Chuck the panger or a dynasty, it's
- 0:21Speaker 1: the culture.
- 0:22Speaker 2: The culture here is unique.
- 0:24Speaker 1: They've won back to back Cups, They've gone to three
- 0:27Speaker 1: straight finals.
- 0:28Speaker 2: There is something special about this culture here.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Gretz Well, I think that everyone said it best when
- 0:35Speaker 3: they traded for matt to Chuck. That was a gutsy
- 0:38Speaker 3: trade because the player they traded was a tremendous hockey player.
- 0:42Speaker 4: And Matthew came here and I.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Know we've talked about it, but the fact is he
- 0:47Speaker 3: did change the culture. He didn't have to say a lot.
- 0:50Speaker 3: It was how he played and how when softas he
- 0:52Speaker 3: was on the ice, and what he would do to
- 0:55Speaker 3: win the championship, and that fed through the whole hockey club.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Joe I thought when.
- 1:01Speaker 4: They lost Montour and Eckman Marson.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I thought, okay, those guys are a really good defense
- 1:06Speaker 3: fan and long came Seth Johones and I can't say
- 1:11Speaker 3: enough good things about their management team.
- 1:13Speaker 4: They did a great job.
- 1:15Speaker 3: They had more depth, they deserve to win the Stanley Cup,
- 1:18Speaker 3: and they had the best goaltender and throughout the playoffs, I.
- 1:20Speaker 5: Just look at the rundown of potential cons Mike winners.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Congratulations with the Sam Benn.
- 1:25Speaker 5: But we were going back and forth hot starving about
- 1:28Speaker 5: Bennett or Marshawn or Barkhov or Bob.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I mean that's depth right there. And Angels person could
- 1:34Speaker 2: have won the MVP.
- 1:35Speaker 4: And eck Quad.
- 1:36Speaker 2: He was unreal.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I scored four goals in this game, right, Sam reinhard.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Unbelievable, incredible.
- 1:45Speaker 6: I just have to say I haven't played in five years.
- 1:48Speaker 6: Every year that goes by, you get more, you know,
- 1:52Speaker 6: separation from the game.
- 1:53Speaker 2: But when I listened to them.
- 1:54Speaker 6: Talk about the group the locker room, it makes them
- 1:58Speaker 6: miss the game so much. It's no better feeling than
- 2:01Speaker 6: to be on a team where you feel like you're
- 2:03Speaker 6: playing for each other and anytime you have success, that's
- 2:07Speaker 6: what you need in the locker room. It's not enough
- 2:09Speaker 6: to just have great players. You need that feeling of
- 2:11Speaker 6: you playing for each other. I just get goosebumps when
- 2:15Speaker 6: I hear them talk. They mean so much to each other. Yeah,
- 2:18Speaker 6: and it's such a big part of playing this game.
- 2:21Speaker 6: That's why we start playing the game as kids too.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 6: We love the competition, but we love doing it together
- 2:29Speaker 6: in a great group. I just absolutely love it. You know,
- 2:33Speaker 6: I might want to go skate tomorrow.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I don't know. It never gets told either.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Guys.
- 2:37Speaker 5: You watch these trophy presentations for all these other sports
- 2:40Speaker 5: in these leagues. I love seeing the players get the trophy.
- 2:43Speaker 5: Oh yeah, those are the guys that out there blocking
- 2:45Speaker 5: shots of their face, scoring goals. Yes, you're gonna have
- 2:47Speaker 5: a great ownership and great management for the players.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Are the ones that get it done.
- 2:51Speaker 1: And it goes back to the captain, Sasha Barkov, three
- 2:54Speaker 1: hundred and fifty nine days after he got it the
- 2:56Speaker 1: last time. But then biz Barkov doesn't give it to Marsha,
- 3:01Speaker 1: and he doesn't give it to good.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Chuck or Bennett. Well Bob.
- 3:05Speaker 1: He goes out and they find all the first year
- 3:08Speaker 1: winners on this team, and all of them are next.
- 3:11Speaker 7: Absolutely, And when you touched on earlier as well, like
- 3:14Speaker 7: the fact that Sam Bennett gets the con smite, he
- 3:17Speaker 7: goes and drops it off right by the bench.
- 3:18Speaker 4: He doesn't care.
- 3:19Speaker 7: They care about the team trophy and they get it,
- 3:21Speaker 7: and like you said, they give it off to the
- 3:23Speaker 7: healthy scratches, the guys who have never really had their
- 3:25Speaker 7: chance to taste the victory before.
- 3:27Speaker 2: And it's just.
- 3:28Speaker 7: Remarkable what this group has been able to achieve and
- 3:30Speaker 7: doing it back to back. Guys, we know how hard
- 3:32Speaker 7: this Brian is, third straight final and how many miles
- 3:35Speaker 7: on the tires.
- 3:36Speaker 3: But I just replenish, and I'm amazed at how organized
- 3:41Speaker 3: they are on the ice, their power play, they're penalty killing,
- 3:44Speaker 3: their defensive structure. Traveling back and forth from Florida Edmonton,
- 3:48Speaker 3: where they found time to decide.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Who's going to hit the trophy first. I mean, that's
- 3:52Speaker 4: a day long job in itself.
- 3:54Speaker 3: They messed the three or four of the captains got
- 3:56Speaker 3: together and said, hey, what do you think of this idea?
- 3:58Speaker 3: And they all said, Okay, that's win tonight and that's
- 4:01Speaker 3: what we'll do. But just a class the organization, a
- 4:04Speaker 3: classic group of young men, and they deserve the Stanley Cup.
- 4:06Speaker 7: And another thing too, like what they put themselves through.
- 4:09Speaker 7: You heard Matthew kachuck Ging interviewed there. His adductor off
- 4:12Speaker 7: the bone like I don't even know how much pain
- 4:15Speaker 7: he must have been in to go through that, and
- 4:17Speaker 7: also an abbessue like this. I'm sure that the laundry
- 4:20Speaker 7: list of injuries are gonna come out. But the personal
- 4:22Speaker 7: sacrifice that these guys put themselves in order to hoist
- 4:25Speaker 7: Lord Stanley, it's a grind.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Boys, I don't know what it feels like. I know
- 4:29Speaker 2: what you do.
- 4:30Speaker 4: It's a grind.
- 4:31Speaker 3: And I was sitting with Keith to Chuck in the
- 4:34Speaker 3: game three against Toronto and he told me that Matthews
- 4:36Speaker 3: shouldn't even be dressing because his leg was torn.
- 4:39Speaker 4: It was so bad. But the kid has so much
- 4:42Speaker 4: heart and that filters through the hockey club.
- 4:44Speaker 3: You can lead by emotion too, you can lead by
- 4:47Speaker 3: your presence, and that's what Matthew has done for three
- 4:50Speaker 3: straight years. He changed the whole organization as far as i'm.
- 4:53Speaker 7: And the fact he was able to play to the
- 4:55Speaker 7: level that he played, I mean, how many goals in
- 4:56Speaker 7: these Stanley Cup finals, and I mean he was not
- 4:59Speaker 7: a liability all there through the run, great defensively, that
- 5:01Speaker 7: great wallwork, hanging on to it down low, and I
- 5:04Speaker 7: think it's just also a testament to his line mate
- 5:06Speaker 7: Sam Bennett and the fact that he helped carry him
- 5:09Speaker 7: throat these this run and be able to achieve fifteen goals,
- 5:12Speaker 7: thirteen of which on the road. So so that second
- 5:15Speaker 7: line in general playing through pain and being able to
- 5:17Speaker 7: accomplish what they did.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Tip of the cap man just a full blown wagon.
- 5:21Speaker 6: I mean, at this point of the season, it's gonna
- 5:24Speaker 6: take a lot for guys to sit aside, right, even
- 5:27Speaker 6: though you might be able to walk almost leaving the rink.
- 5:30Speaker 2: But it's just incredible.
- 5:32Speaker 6: And also a lot of teams are dealing with types
- 5:34Speaker 6: of the type of different types of injuries end of
- 5:38Speaker 6: the season, right, the question is how much how bad
- 5:41Speaker 6: is it? Like their first run three years ago against Vegas,
- 5:45Speaker 6: you know, they were really banged up and it kind
- 5:47Speaker 6: of cost him the title a little bit. This year
- 5:49Speaker 6: they've been better off with injuries, for sure.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I Methica Chuck talked about culture. You've got Sam Bennett's
- 5:55Speaker 2: deals up, heck bled deals up. We've spent a few
- 5:58Speaker 2: days here, boys, Listen.
- 6:00Speaker 5: I don't want to be in guys pockets, but you'd
- 6:02Speaker 5: be kind of fool to turn this down.
- 6:04Speaker 2: They've been a pretty good situation here in Florida.
- 6:06Speaker 5: Panthers YEP, a team that's could come contend every single year,
- 6:09Speaker 5: first Stanley Cup Championship, and then look at the other side, what's.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Gonna happen to the Evanson normal.
- 6:12Speaker 1: There's a lot of questions.
- 6:14Speaker 2: What's gonna happen here? I think I saw a Seato
- 6:15Speaker 2: down on the ice with some paperworkers.
- 6:17Speaker 5: I'm trying to get him a pressure try to sign
- 6:19Speaker 5: McDavid's I think, what's gonna happen?
- 6:20Speaker 1: I think we have to get into all of it
- 6:22Speaker 1: because there's questions on both sides, especially if you're gonna
- 6:24Speaker 1: be a modern dynasty and you want to keep this
- 6:26Speaker 1: thing going on the Florida side, and big sort of
- 6:29Speaker 1: existential questions going on with the Oilers. But Sam Bennett
- 6:32Speaker 1: right now, he's a Panther, he's the Consmike winner fifteen goals,
- 6:36Speaker 1: thirteen on the road, five in the final, and he
- 6:39Speaker 1: spoke to Jackie Rdman earlier.
- 6:43Speaker 8: Sam, congratulations a two times Stanley Cup.
- 6:46Speaker 9: Champion, hands MVP. How do those words sound.
- 6:50Speaker 10: I mean, it's just it's incredible. This is uh, this
- 6:56Speaker 10: was harder than the than the last time. It's uh.
- 7:00Speaker 10: I mean we put in so much work. I'm just
- 7:01Speaker 10: so proud of this group. There's there's honestly twenty five
- 7:04Speaker 10: MVPs on this team, so I mean it's, uh, yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 10: it's it's the best feeling in the world.
- 7:11Speaker 9: Do you say this one was better and harder than
- 7:13Speaker 9: the first? Why?
- 7:17Speaker 7: I mean?
- 7:17Speaker 10: I think just knowing what it took, what it took,
- 7:20Speaker 10: like knowing how hard we had to work to get
- 7:22Speaker 10: back here. And I mean there's we played a lot
- 7:28Speaker 10: of really good teams in this run, and I'm just
- 7:31Speaker 10: so proud of this group. We battled through a lot
- 7:34Speaker 10: of adversity, we were you know, counted out at times,
- 7:37Speaker 10: but uh, this is just an incredible group.
- 7:40Speaker 11: I don't know if people will look back on this
- 7:42Speaker 11: Cup final and and talk about the goaltending, but Sergey
- 7:45Speaker 11: Lebrowski made some incredibly timely saves for you guys. Have
- 7:49Speaker 11: you ever seen a goaltender so dialed in the way
- 7:52Speaker 11: that they prepare?
- 7:53Speaker 3: No?
- 7:53Speaker 10: Never, It's it's it's remarkable. I mean, I mean, that's
- 7:57Speaker 10: my MVP. He's every night, He's the guy that this
- 8:00Speaker 10: is uh, you know, he holds this whole thing together,
- 8:03Speaker 10: just the composer and the nut gives us so much
- 8:05Speaker 10: confidence and yeah, he's uh, he's one of a kind.
- 8:10Speaker 9: Big summer for you. Paul Maurice has stated that you
- 8:14Speaker 9: are dealing with the babonic flag, the dang fever. I
- 8:16Speaker 9: don't know if you said, would you like to respond
- 8:18Speaker 9: to those rumors?
- 8:20Speaker 10: They're not true?
- 8:22Speaker 8: All right, fair enough, listen, enjoy the celebration. Congratulations on
- 8:25Speaker 8: it all and thank you.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Nice to watch, are you you know what? No, it
- 8:30Speaker 3: doesn't get enough recognition. Dale Talon for signing Bob. He
- 8:35Speaker 3: was the guy who said, you know what, this guy
- 8:37Speaker 3: is going to change their franchise. And he struggled a
- 8:39Speaker 3: little bit for a couple of years and all of
- 8:40Speaker 3: a sudden he turned it around.
- 8:41Speaker 4: And then he turned it around amazing.
- 8:44Speaker 1: There was a time going into that run. We were
- 8:46Speaker 1: here for that final run when they went to Vegas.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I mean, you could not talk about Serge Bobrowski without
- 8:52Speaker 1: breaking up his contract. And it wasn't a positive note.
- 8:55Speaker 1: It was one of those things that he wasn't living
- 8:57Speaker 1: up to. Now that's gone, we're talking about a future
- 8:59Speaker 1: Hall of fame. Yeah, he's underpaid now, yes, and Sam
- 9:03Speaker 1: Bennett is going to get I mean, and we'll see
- 9:05Speaker 1: if he stays. But you keep hearing that word over
- 9:10Speaker 1: and over that this is a family and it has
- 9:11Speaker 1: that family vibe. So we'll see.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I think they took it to a question.
- 9:16Speaker 7: I think they took it to a whole new level
- 9:17Speaker 7: when Bush went down to the steam room and it
- 9:19Speaker 7: was all of them in there and Bush couldn't been
- 9:21Speaker 7: get inside. So that was a great little inside story
- 9:24Speaker 7: from the j W and Edmonton team.
- 9:26Speaker 4: I wonder if trousers down there with the t towel again.
- 9:30Speaker 7: Oh yeah, But like you said, man, this is an
- 9:33Speaker 7: amazing group and no shocker that they were able to
- 9:36Speaker 7: accomplish us with the dedication and that family like atmosphere
- 9:40Speaker 7: every day in the locker room.
- 9:41Speaker 2: And I put my money on it. I think Bennett
- 9:42Speaker 2: and Neck Glad will stay. I really do. I think
- 9:45Speaker 2: they both stay hanked and they want to run it back.
- 9:48Speaker 6: I'm gonna do whatever I can right to keep them.
- 9:51Speaker 6: There's such a big part not on the team, but
- 9:52Speaker 6: the DNA of the team. How about heck Well, the
- 9:55Speaker 6: way he played these playoffs. I didn't know he he
- 9:58Speaker 6: had that in him. I mean, I knew he's a
- 10:00Speaker 6: great skater and skill guy, but he was physical. He
- 10:03Speaker 6: played on the edge and kind of got the opponent well,
- 10:06Speaker 6: irritated almost every game.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Little Legie and played every shift either against Stresaid or
- 10:12Speaker 3: McDavid or both, and didn't miss a beat.
- 10:15Speaker 4: And he was physical the whole series.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Well, you said it earlier, he had that rest.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Yeah, you know when he had those games off, it's
- 10:21Speaker 3: in value twenty games off and he came back. He
- 10:26Speaker 3: was just a horse out there. He played as good
- 10:28Speaker 3: as I've ever seen him play.
- 10:30Speaker 2: And having Seth Joan certainly helped too. It takes that
- 10:32Speaker 2: pressure off the right side.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And you mentioned the unrestricted free agents for Florida that
- 10:36Speaker 1: at Platt Maate Schmidt, Brad Marshan, some big names there.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Some guys were definitely if they want to going to
- 10:43Speaker 1: go out and get paid, they definitely deserve it. We'll
- 10:46Speaker 1: see if Florida can keep them. The guy runs the
- 10:47Speaker 1: whole thing, Paul Maurice. He has been from start to
- 10:52Speaker 1: finish the last couple of runs the voice of this team,
- 10:55Speaker 1: uh part jester, comedian, philosopher, and he pushes all the
- 11:01Speaker 1: right buttons and now back to back champion. Earlier with Jaggie.
- 11:08Speaker 8: Pomery's congratulations, you guys are officially back to.
- 11:12Speaker 9: Back Stanley Cup champions.
- 11:14Speaker 8: You know, Sam Bennett said this one was harder to
- 11:16Speaker 8: win than the last one because he.
- 11:18Speaker 9: Knew going in what it would take. What will define
- 11:22Speaker 9: this run for you?
- 11:24Speaker 4: Well, I don't know how they got up the mountain.
- 11:25Speaker 12: I mean, we're all standing at the bottom of the
- 11:27Speaker 12: start of the year and it looked pretty high, and
- 11:29Speaker 12: we had a lot of twists and turns, we covered
- 11:31Speaker 12: a lot of miles, and we had injuries.
- 11:33Speaker 2: But these guys love each other.
- 11:35Speaker 4: That's the best I can come up with.
- 11:37Speaker 7: It.
- 11:37Speaker 2: It's the truth, and it's the way they treat each other.
- 11:39Speaker 12: They care about each other, and that's their energy source
- 11:42Speaker 12: and it's the most powerful energy source.
- 11:44Speaker 2: And it certainly didn't come from the coach. But they
- 11:47Speaker 2: love each other.
- 11:48Speaker 9: You know, three Cup finals ago you told me that
- 11:50Speaker 9: the love these guys have for each other.
- 11:53Speaker 8: Basically eliminated any cynicism.
- 11:55Speaker 9: You might have had left about professional sports. Two years later,
- 11:59Speaker 9: how how proud are you of what they've done since then?
- 12:02Speaker 12: You know what, I've been really lucky my whole career.
- 12:05Speaker 4: I've coached in the wonderful cities. I've had great teams.
- 12:10Speaker 12: These guys are different like, I haven't met people like
- 12:13Speaker 12: this before, right, it's the collection of them.
- 12:16Speaker 2: There's great men on every team.
- 12:18Speaker 12: It's just all of them, all of them.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Every guy.
- 12:21Speaker 12: So the first guys that touched the Stanley Cup are
- 12:24Speaker 12: the guys who.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Hadn't won it before.
- 12:25Speaker 12: And some of those players never played in the game,
- 12:27Speaker 12: but they're all part of them. That's the bark Off.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Effect in our room. He loves everybody. Everybody's part of them.
- 12:34Speaker 8: You can tell it sort of emanates off the group,
- 12:38Speaker 8: if you will. You look at guys like Marshan, like
- 12:41Speaker 8: Nate Schmidt, they come in, they seem to fit in seamlessly.
- 12:44Speaker 9: Is that a product of that culture that has been built?
- 12:47Speaker 4: They show up there and it's like they've been here
- 12:48Speaker 4: ten years.
- 12:49Speaker 12: And then Evan Rodriguez said it to me the best
- 12:54Speaker 12: last year at the end, he said.
- 12:56Speaker 2: It's the first place that ever been record. Just be myself.
- 12:58Speaker 12: I didn't have to be tougher, funnier, or any of
- 13:01Speaker 12: the things that I'm not. Well, He's tough, but I
- 13:03Speaker 12: could just be myself. And I think that's that's where
- 13:06Speaker 12: that comes from.
- 13:07Speaker 11: What can you say about the dog that is Sam
- 13:11Speaker 11: Bennett and the way that he performed this postseason because
- 13:14Speaker 11: I remember a time when he was trying to find
- 13:17Speaker 11: his place in Calgary.
- 13:18Speaker 9: He seems to have found a home for now here.
- 13:21Speaker 12: I mean, he gets here and he plays with a
- 13:23Speaker 12: great player, Jonathan Hubertal and then the next year Matthew
- 13:27Speaker 12: kachuckstrows up. And then what happens is his game developed,
- 13:30Speaker 12: It gets better on its own. Playing with those players
- 13:32Speaker 12: changes the way that you play. Stop his nails. He
- 13:36Speaker 12: says five words a year, but he's got a big
- 13:40Speaker 12: smile on his face tonight.
- 13:42Speaker 11: How quickly will you call him this summer to try
- 13:44Speaker 11: to convince him to stay.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Oh, he's not leaving the building.
- 13:48Speaker 9: You're kidnapping him.
- 13:49Speaker 8: Listen, I think the fans would understand if you took
- 13:52Speaker 8: those measures. Thank you for this, congratulations, go and enjoy
- 13:55Speaker 8: it very much.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Says five words of year. He's not getting by the work,
- 14:02Speaker 1: get paid for just about everything else.
- 14:04Speaker 7: Words.
- 14:08Speaker 1: You know, they keep mentioning the most of his team,
- 14:10Speaker 1: and love was the word that Palmer rees used, and
- 14:13Speaker 1: it brings the team together. And you don't necessarily need
- 14:16Speaker 1: that to win the whole thing. It certainly helps if
- 14:18Speaker 1: you have this talent, this glex of players do you
- 14:20Speaker 1: remember that feeling when you were playing with your teams.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Listen, I'm overly impressed at what he's saying. But I
- 14:27Speaker 3: played on a lot of teams that had a lot
- 14:29Speaker 3: of love and missed the playoffs. It takes a little
- 14:32Speaker 3: bit more than that. You got to have goaltend, you
- 14:34Speaker 3: gotta have coaching, you gotta have skill, gotta have toughness.
- 14:38Speaker 3: They got all that. On top of that, they all
- 14:40Speaker 3: like each other. So it's a combination of a lot
- 14:42Speaker 3: of things, and they seem to have pushed all the
- 14:46Speaker 3: right buttons at this point in time. And the opposite
- 14:48Speaker 3: thing is for Edmonton, they're gonna have some questions in
- 14:51Speaker 3: the offseason of you know, they just didn't have enough
- 14:54Speaker 3: depth against the Florida Panthers, and you can't just rely
- 14:57Speaker 3: on two guys to continue carry your hockey club.
- 15:01Speaker 4: It's too hard over four series.
- 15:05Speaker 3: And we talked about it just earlier. Look at the
- 15:08Speaker 3: depth of Florida. One of the five guys could have
- 15:11Speaker 3: won the con Smyth right, and even the Chuck's name
- 15:15Speaker 3: has probably got some votes.
- 15:17Speaker 4: You played very well.
- 15:18Speaker 3: So Edmonton has some big questions in this offseason, and
- 15:21Speaker 3: sure they're going to answer them.
- 15:22Speaker 4: We could talk about that a little bit.
- 15:24Speaker 1: DraftKings as Jazz has told me, as the Oilers actually
- 15:27Speaker 1: is the early Cup failed.
- 15:30Speaker 12: Bus sixt offer sheeted.
- 15:36Speaker 4: As you got the under right, Yes, sick.
- 15:40Speaker 1: But you'll look at free agents for them, Corey Perry,
- 15:43Speaker 1: Jeff Skinner, Connor Brown, captain, Frederick Klingberg. And then the
- 15:47Speaker 1: big story, of course, will be that Connor McDavid has
- 15:50Speaker 1: one year left on his contract, so it's going to
- 15:53Speaker 1: be going into the summer with this feeling of uncertainty
- 15:57Speaker 1: with this team. Leon Drysideles signed long term. Connor McDavid
- 16:00Speaker 1: it is not. And now you have a lot of
- 16:02Speaker 1: Oilers fans back to back years didn't get the title
- 16:05Speaker 1: and now they're wondering how secure is this team?
- 16:07Speaker 2: Yeah, especially after going back to back too.
- 16:09Speaker 13: I mean, Connor McDavid's gonna determine what happens when it
- 16:12Speaker 13: comes to free agents. No guys deals her up and
- 16:14Speaker 13: a lot of players took less money to come to
- 16:17Speaker 13: Edmonton for a chance to compete, and if McDavid's there
- 16:21Speaker 13: or not, that's going to dictate what a lot of
- 16:22Speaker 13: free agent's.
- 16:23Speaker 11: Going to do.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Gruts, Yeah, it's a tricky, slippery slope right, and nobody
- 16:27Speaker 3: really has an understanding of what exactly is going to do.
- 16:31Speaker 3: All I can say is I know he loves it there.
- 16:33Speaker 3: I'm sure it's pretty easy and easy to negotiate the deal.
- 16:36Speaker 3: How much do you want on the cap over eight years?
- 16:39Speaker 2: I could do his deal.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Yeah, nineteen point three million or whatever the number is
- 16:43Speaker 3: going to be. So that's not going to be the issue.
- 16:45Speaker 3: The issue is is he going to resign it? But
- 16:47Speaker 3: from all indications are he loves it there. He likes
- 16:50Speaker 3: to coach. Coach has been with him since junior hockey.
- 16:53Speaker 3: He's very close with Leon and Corey Perry has been
- 16:56Speaker 3: a good fit for that team. So I would be
- 16:59Speaker 3: surprised if Honors not resigned.
- 17:01Speaker 7: I got to congratulate obviously the Oilers on making it
- 17:04Speaker 7: back to back finals, congratulate on the way they were
- 17:06Speaker 7: able to replenish the lineup.
- 17:08Speaker 2: But going back to last.
- 17:10Speaker 7: Year, how hard is it wane when you've created this foundation,
- 17:13Speaker 7: when you have certain guys like McLeod, Broberg, Fogel and Halloway,
- 17:18Speaker 7: and all of a sudden you have to say goodbye
- 17:20Speaker 7: to those guys and kind of re established that that
- 17:23Speaker 7: core group where to me, I feel like as good
- 17:27Speaker 7: of a job as they did, there was a big
- 17:28Speaker 7: miss and re establishing that culture that brought them there
- 17:31Speaker 7: the first time. They got the taste, but weren't necessarily
- 17:34Speaker 7: able to bring those same guys back.
- 17:36Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 17:36Speaker 3: And you know, it's a funny game because if you
- 17:40Speaker 3: look at the first three rounds, Edmonton was as dominant
- 17:44Speaker 3: as a team as anyone. I mean, they played extremely
- 17:47Speaker 3: well against a good team in Vegas.
- 17:49Speaker 4: They beat La.
- 17:51Speaker 3: They've went into Dallas and took home ice advantage and
- 17:53Speaker 3: beat Dallas who was a really good hockey club. And
- 17:56Speaker 3: we all thought, Okay, Edmonton's got home ice this year.
- 18:00Speaker 3: That's going to be the difference in this series from
- 18:02Speaker 3: last year where Florida had Game seven and all of
- 18:04Speaker 3: a sudden, it's one one leaving in Edmonton, and I'm thinking, wow,
- 18:08Speaker 3: and listen, if Edmonton doesn't have that comeback in Game four,
- 18:11Speaker 3: they're down three games to one going back to Edmonton.
- 18:13Speaker 3: So I don't know, they got some questions they got
- 18:16Speaker 3: to answer. I'm sure they will. Stan Bowman's won three
- 18:20Speaker 3: Stanley Cups and he's been to finals.
- 18:22Speaker 4: He knows what he's doing.
- 18:23Speaker 3: And listen, when you can build your team around twenty
- 18:26Speaker 3: nine and ninety seven. That's a pretty good start, and
- 18:29Speaker 3: I think they have to say, Okay, is this our
- 18:31Speaker 3: goalie or not. They got to solidify that you can't
- 18:34Speaker 3: go into Game five of the Stanley Cup Finals and
- 18:37Speaker 3: switch your goaltenders. I've just you know, I've that's very
- 18:40Speaker 3: rare that it's ever happened.
- 18:42Speaker 1: The mismatching net was it's overwhelming in this because you
- 18:45Speaker 1: do have a future Hall of Famer and you have
- 18:46Speaker 1: another team that's going back to me. Yeah.
- 18:48Speaker 6: I think that was the big question going into this series.
- 18:51Speaker 6: It was a little bit of a mismatch, no question
- 18:53Speaker 6: about it. Not to take anything away from Stuart Skinner
- 18:56Speaker 6: or Pickard, I thought, you know, leading up to this
- 18:59Speaker 6: series that it fantastic job to take their team here,
- 19:02Speaker 6: but playing the best team in hockey right now, you're
- 19:05Speaker 6: gonna need extremely good goaltending. And we talked about going
- 19:09Speaker 6: into this game tonight about the timely saves that Bob
- 19:13Speaker 6: gave Florida throughout this series and throughout the playoffs, and
- 19:16Speaker 6: it just gives them so much confidence and calmness because
- 19:20Speaker 6: it's so many momentum swings and your gain m you know,
- 19:24Speaker 6: loose An edge here and there for five ten minutes.
- 19:26Speaker 2: That's where you need your goalie.
- 19:27Speaker 6: And I felt like as soon as Florida got a
- 19:30Speaker 6: couple opportunities, they made Edmonton pay. So, yeah, it was
- 19:34Speaker 6: a little bit of a mismatch.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Especially in this series.
- 19:37Speaker 7: It felt like in the first five minutes most games,
- 19:39Speaker 7: Edmonton would really bring it. He'd make a few clutch
- 19:42Speaker 7: ones and then they'd finally establish their game. And like
- 19:45Speaker 7: you said, I was just so important for them to
- 19:47Speaker 7: get them over the hurdle. And wow, it's a remarkable run.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Well, I just want to know how they're going to
- 19:52Speaker 3: fit all those people in the locker room. The old days,
- 19:55Speaker 3: we used to bring everybody in the locker room, and
- 19:57Speaker 3: that locker room made that big.
- 20:00Speaker 1: But these images are so great. We're gonna step aside
- 20:03Speaker 1: for just a moment. But these are the players with
- 20:05Speaker 1: their family. We talk about all of them with their teammates.
- 20:10Speaker 7: And you see.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Barkoff getting the cup, but nobody gets here alone. Barkoff hoisted,
- 20:16Speaker 1: all the hands go up, and now on the ice
- 20:18Speaker 1: behind us, all the family members celebrating with the players.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Back to back Stanley Cup champions. The Florida Panthers a
- 20:27Speaker 1: lot more from Sunrise
