- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, thank goodness he's here in the studio to review movies,
- 0:03Speaker 1: or we wouldn't be able to have Sewan means reviewing movies.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Sean is a fine writer and editor at the Salt
- 0:09Speaker 1: Lake Tribune, s l trip dot com, and he's.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Also a movie reviewer movie critic.
- 0:17Speaker 1: You can find his writings on movies at movie cricket
- 0:20Speaker 1: dot net and what movies we got today, Sean.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Well, we got three to talk about. I did not
- 0:25Speaker 3: see the latest Conjuring sequel because I just don't care.
- 0:29Speaker 2: How many are there, like nine movies in this world.
- 0:32Speaker 3: If you count the Annabels and the nun and all
- 0:34Speaker 3: the all the all the offshoots.
- 0:36Speaker 4: I think it's like nine or ten. They're based on
- 0:37Speaker 4: actual events, Sean.
- 0:39Speaker 2: All craps are they are? Allegedly this is the last one.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Yeah, they always say that allegedly.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Then then then if they get good box office, I'll say,
- 0:52Speaker 3: we could squeeze one more out of this, out of
- 0:54Speaker 3: this dry turnip. Sure, yeah, okay, we will start with
- 0:58Speaker 3: the re release of sorts releases.
- 1:00Speaker 4: There a thing right now, it's they're having a moment.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Last week. Last week, the number two movie in America
- 1:05Speaker 4: was Jaws.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Yeah, because it because the fiftieth anniversary, you know, you
- 1:08Speaker 3: go see it in the big screen. Song and we
- 1:10Speaker 3: got it, we got a I saw last I was
- 1:12Speaker 3: at theater last night and they were posters up for
- 1:14Speaker 3: thirtieth anniversary of Toy Story in theaters in September and
- 1:19Speaker 3: the fortieth anniversary of Back to the Future in theaters
- 1:21Speaker 3: in October. I think just the idea of, you know,
- 1:25Speaker 3: if you want to see a movie, come see an
- 1:26Speaker 3: old movie you really like and see it in the
- 1:28Speaker 3: big screen with the good sound.
- 1:29Speaker 2: They're rereleasing both of the Trons.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I mean they got the Neutron coming. Yeah,
- 1:34Speaker 4: that helps. Anyway.
- 1:36Speaker 3: This week we have Hamilton, which, if you remember, in
- 1:41Speaker 3: the start of the pandemic in twenty twenty, they put
- 1:43Speaker 3: it on Disney Plus. Yeah it was but yeah, and
- 1:46Speaker 3: it's the stage version filmed in twenty sixteen with all
- 1:49Speaker 3: you know, Lynn Manuel, Miranda really pretty well all the
- 1:52Speaker 3: all the all the original Broadway cast, everybody you loved
- 1:55Speaker 3: and it was amazing. So they because it's the tenth
- 1:58Speaker 3: anniversary of the of Hamilton's premiere on Broadway, they are
- 2:03Speaker 3: putting it out in theaters so we can all see
- 2:05Speaker 3: it on the big screen, and it's amazing.
- 2:08Speaker 4: It's great, it's wonderful. Go see it.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Jonathan Groff as King George is just.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, and Christopher Jackson is George Washington's one
- 2:16Speaker 3: of my favorites. D V.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Diggs And this is the great one.
- 2:19Speaker 3: When I at the time, I said that one of
- 2:21Speaker 3: the reasons why it's so great to see the stage
- 2:23Speaker 3: version just filmed as opposed to like you're making a
- 2:25Speaker 3: movie out of it is first off, you would you
- 2:28Speaker 3: would probably wind up with they'd have to put bankable
- 2:32Speaker 3: stars in the place of some of the and then
- 2:35Speaker 3: you would lose those things. And like for example, DV. Diggs,
- 2:37Speaker 3: it's a great example, which do you do it? Do
- 2:39Speaker 3: you haven't played Jefferson or do you haven't played Lafayette?
- 2:42Speaker 3: You know, how do you have to make that choice?
- 2:44Speaker 3: And do you see the stage version? You don't have
- 2:46Speaker 3: to choose. You get them both four stars. This is amazing.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Go see it. It's fun, right, I was playing for
- 2:52Speaker 3: just like a a weekend week or two, I think,
- 2:56Speaker 3: I mean, it depends on how well it does this
- 2:57Speaker 3: week twinless twinless. I saw this when it premiered at
- 3:01Speaker 3: Sun dance. It got some notoriety when the festival because
- 3:06Speaker 3: it was it was a competition film, and all the
- 3:08Speaker 3: competition films in the last week, the last four days
- 3:10Speaker 3: of the festival played online for people. You know, they
- 3:13Speaker 3: had to pull this one from online because people were
- 3:18Speaker 3: pirrating clips from the movie, mostly clips of Dylan O'Brien
- 3:22Speaker 3: being naked and having sex. So because I can't I
- 3:26Speaker 3: can't imagine why that would be popular.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Online, but you know, so O'Brien plays Roman.
- 3:30Speaker 3: He's visiting a support group for people who've lost their
- 3:33Speaker 3: twin sibling. His brothers died and so he said his
- 3:38Speaker 3: twin died, So he's now in a support group for
- 3:40Speaker 3: people who have lost their siblings. At the support group meeting,
- 3:43Speaker 3: he meets Dennis, who tells everyone about his deceased twin
- 3:47Speaker 3: and they become friends and then things sort of get weird.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Dennis is played by James Sweeney, who also wrote and
- 3:54Speaker 3: directed the movie. If you can imagine Napoleon Dynamite but
- 3:58Speaker 3: a little bit more psychopathic, Uh, you got an idea
- 4:02Speaker 3: of what this character is like. It's it's it's a
- 4:04Speaker 3: funny movie, both funny haha and funny, strange and really
- 4:07Speaker 3: focuses in on.
- 4:08Speaker 4: The lengths we will go so that we don't have
- 4:10Speaker 4: to be lonely.
- 4:13Speaker 3: It's awkward and hilarious and it's unsettling sometimes all at once.
- 4:17Speaker 3: It's worthwhile. It's three stars twinless and it's playing in
- 4:19Speaker 3: a few places around town.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Are there really support groups or people who?
- 4:23Speaker 3: I think they're support groups for everybody? But yes, I
- 4:26Speaker 3: do know that there are such things. Yes, Splitsville, Splitsville.
- 4:31Speaker 3: This one's This one starts. You have a couple, Ashley
- 4:34Speaker 3: and Carrie. Ashley's played by Adria r Jonah uh and uh,
- 4:40Speaker 3: Carrie's played by Kyle Marvin. And yes, it's Carry Carry
- 4:43Speaker 3: with a Boy, a boy's name Carrie. They have those
- 4:45Speaker 3: these days. Yeah, they're they're driving to a beach house
- 4:50Speaker 3: owned by their best friend, Carrie's best friend Paul and
- 4:53Speaker 3: his wife Julie. Before they get there, they see something
- 4:55Speaker 3: horrific on the freeway and it makes Ashley think about
- 4:57Speaker 3: how she doesn't want to waste her life, so she
- 4:59Speaker 3: tells Carrie he wants a divorce. Ah, and then she
- 5:02Speaker 3: starts to read a letter that she started writing a
- 5:04Speaker 3: month earlier. So it's like, you know, this has been
- 5:05Speaker 3: building and he had no idea. So Carrie ends up
- 5:09Speaker 3: alone to go see Paul and Julia. Paul's played by
- 5:12Speaker 3: Michael Angelo Covino, who directed this movie and he co
- 5:15Speaker 3: wrote co wrote it with Kyle Marvin. These two, these
- 5:17Speaker 3: two guys did a movie a few years ago called
- 5:19Speaker 3: The Climb that was one of my favorite movies that
- 5:22Speaker 3: very much, very much about sort of dissecting romance, bro
- 5:27Speaker 3: code sort of stuff. And Julia is played by Dakota Johnson.
- 5:30Speaker 3: So Paul and Julia have been married a good deal longer.
- 5:33Speaker 3: They have a son who's eleven years old. And they
- 5:35Speaker 3: tell Carrie that the secret of their marriage is that
- 5:37Speaker 3: they have an open relationship. Oh and so they're both
- 5:41Speaker 3: able to sleep with other people if they so choose.
- 5:45Speaker 4: This. This sound this sounds good in theory.
- 5:47Speaker 3: But then Julia decides she wants to sleep with Carrie,
- 5:50Speaker 3: and that throws all that throws it all.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Into I'll do it out the window. Yeah. These guys,
- 5:56Speaker 4: Covino and Martin are hilarious.
- 5:59Speaker 3: They are are very good at dissecting these sort of
- 6:02Speaker 3: you know, uh, male pattern stupidity and the where where
- 6:10Speaker 3: where the where the bro code bumps into actual human
- 6:12Speaker 3: interactions very funny. And Adria r Jonah, I've seen her around.
- 6:18Speaker 3: I think she was she was the she was unfortunately
- 6:20Speaker 3: the female lead in Morbius.
- 6:25Speaker 4: She was, she was fine. It was it wasn't her fault.
- 6:27Speaker 2: It wasn't her fault.
- 6:29Speaker 4: And she's been a bunch of a bunch of other stuff.
- 6:31Speaker 4: She is hilarious.
- 6:34Speaker 3: And Dakota Johnson, I don't I don't know where you
- 6:37Speaker 3: stand on Dakota Johnson. I usually on her foot now and.
- 6:43Speaker 4: I think she's one note. She's I think she's a
- 6:48Speaker 4: bit more than that.
- 6:48Speaker 3: But but I but she she does have the sort
- 6:52Speaker 3: of winsome quality to her that is a little.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Is that a synonym for blandness?
- 6:57Speaker 3: I don't know, maybe anyhow, But they're they're both very
- 7:00Speaker 3: good and they and they play off, these two guys
- 7:03Speaker 3: who have been working together forever, and they're they're almost
- 7:06Speaker 3: like an old comedy team at this point. It's a
- 7:10Speaker 3: very funny movie and very smart about men and women
- 7:13Speaker 3: and the lack of love in their relationships. It's it's hilarious.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Three and a half, three and a half.
- 7:19Speaker 2: There you go. And that's playing in theater.
- 7:21Speaker 4: That is in a few theaters around town.
- 7:23Speaker 3: So next week we got a couple very different from
- 7:27Speaker 3: I was gonna say, counter programming like crazy. You have
- 7:30Speaker 3: The Long Walk with Cooper Hoffman as a contestant on
- 7:33Speaker 3: this competition to keep walking death based on Stephen King.
- 7:37Speaker 4: I hear this movie is brutal, yeah, and Mark Hamill
- 7:42Speaker 4: they shoot you if you stop walking.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Yeah, things like that. And then on the other hand,
- 7:47Speaker 3: you have Downton Abbey the Grand Finaley. Does it say
- 7:49Speaker 3: that I'm excited about both of these, But I hear
- 7:52Speaker 3: this movie is brutal.
- 7:53Speaker 4: It is brutal, yes, but they shoot people who.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Live it down.
- 7:57Speaker 4: You will drown, You will drown in tea cups.
- 7:59Speaker 1: I'm excited about the Grand Finale, yes, is what they're saying.
- 8:03Speaker 3: They are saying this because they don't burn down the
- 8:05Speaker 3: abbey at the end.
- 8:07Speaker 4: Then no.
- 8:08Speaker 3: But I mean it's it's basically, can we still do
- 8:12Speaker 3: this without Maggie Smith?
- 8:13Speaker 4: Is the question?
- 8:13Speaker 2: Good question? Well, you've got Paul Giamati, so I think, so, Yeah,
- 8:17Speaker 2: Paul Giamati is there.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Yeah, Oh wow, he's he's he plays he plays Lady
- 8:22Speaker 3: Lady Grantham's American brother because she's remember Elizabe McGovern's character
- 8:27Speaker 3: she's actually American.
- 8:28Speaker 4: You don't know, no.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Remember, remember Carrie.
- 8:33Speaker 4: It is It is interesting.
- 8:34Speaker 3: It is very interesting to watch fan service for something
- 8:37Speaker 3: you are not a fan of.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Exactly all right, so that's next week.
- 8:42Speaker 2: And thank you, Sean Me, thank you, thank you very much,
- 8:45Speaker 2: Sean Me.
