Transcript
- 0:00Hi, this is join Us from Fixation and we are releasing our debut album,
- 0:07More Subtle than Death, September eight, beautiful Jinus, thanks for joining
- 0:12us, and thanks for shantus the album too. That was a beautiful touch.
- 0:16Thank you so much. Why you say Fixation of preparing to unleash your
- 0:20debut album More Subtle than Death on September the eighth. So how you feel
- 0:24about it? Makes getting close? And now you're nervous Satius excited, both
- 0:29excited and anxious. It's been it's been such a long time coming. Now
- 0:34we've been working on it for like three years or we started working on it
- 0:40in twenty twenty. And having it finally like in my hands here, it's
- 0:44insane. Uh. And the fact that we're releasing it next week, it's
- 0:50it's crazy. I can't believe it's it's here, you know already. It's
- 0:56an interesting title too, But look, I can't think of anything less subtle
- 0:59than yea. So I read this quote that was Society notes perfectly well how
- 1:08to kill a person and ask methods more subtle than death? It's for me.
- 1:15For me, it's sort of like more in a introspective, it's more
- 1:19killing you from the from the inside, sort of taking taking what's human or
- 1:25what's what makes you a person out of you, uh, and leaving you
- 1:30like the shell of a of a human walking around. That's my sort of
- 1:34perception of the quote, and that's how I felt there was like fitting for
- 1:40the for the album's topics. So is that why they did the black plow
- 1:44or the black rose on the cover that's opened up in an empty Yes,
- 1:48exactly. Yeahful wanting to tell us a bit more about the album from a
- 1:52musical point of view and what you're doing for So for this album, you
- 1:57know, it's our debut album, and we we sort of started this band
- 2:01a long time ago. We actually started in high school when we were like
- 2:07yeah, when we're like fifteen, back in twenty eleven, and we tried,
- 2:15you know, a couple of different things. All of the guys have
- 2:19different musical backgrounds, what they listened to and what they played. So I
- 2:25think this album is sort of a combination of everything that we've been listening to
- 2:30throughout the years, also trying to find like a middle ground for what what
- 2:36the five of us like now and how we want Fixation to sound. But
- 2:42I think everyone's brought something from from their past two to create this sort of
- 2:47sound. And I don't think we really went try to go for anything like
- 2:53particular, because we just made the music that we felt like this, this
- 3:00is something we like, and maybe we have one ballad here and a more
- 3:07orchestral song here, and maybe a more upbeat rock song and some heavy music
- 3:13here. So I think the album was just, yeah, a culbination of
- 3:20everything we wanted to make without specifically thinking we should make that type of song
- 3:27or that type of song. It just happened sort of, yeah, And
- 3:30I'm very happy. I'm real pleased with it. And you've released the singles
- 3:35Flat Earth, More Alive, Claustrophobics, Stay Awake, and Ignore the Disarray,
- 3:38which is more than half of the album's songs made, Like you can
- 3:44release more than half of the singles, Yeah, thank you so much,
- 3:49and we're you know, it's I think it's the way music is is today.
- 3:55It's you sort of have to release more goals to get to grab people's
- 4:01attention. I think the people's attention span is probably a bit shorter than it
- 4:10used to be, so releasing singles is a way for people to to sort
- 4:17of dive more into it than releasing a whole album with new songs. I
- 4:24think it gives you like these sort of points where you can attach yourself where
- 4:28you know, I've heard this before, so I don't have to be using
- 4:34my like listening ear all the way at one hundred percent throughout the whole thing.
- 4:42And I totally understand that. Me. I've always been like an album
- 4:47guy, so I've always listened to the entirety of an album. So I'm
- 4:53really looking forward to getting the whole thing out because you know, it's it's
- 4:57released or it's made with sort of this cohesiveness in mind, and I'm looking
- 5:04forward to people hearing that as well as the last couple of songs that haven't
- 5:09been released yet, because some of them are my favorites on the album.
- 5:15Yeah, So that the album starts with the one minute thirty three almost ambient
- 5:20track and pending fall out, like, what's the many about the album that
- 5:25it sort of throws you off a bit. I think we all we're all
- 5:30like really into the sort of theatrical grand openings and things to music. We
- 5:41always loved listening to albums that have these intros and interludes and outros to make
- 5:47the whole experience a bit more, you know, cinematic. I think that
- 5:55was our intention behind that song. We al should do it in live setting.
- 6:00We have this intro grand intro intro track before going in stage sort of
- 6:04sets the mood a bit. The fun thing about the song in pending fallout
- 6:11we had the idea for such a long time, but we didn't really get
- 6:15it to work. And when we finally like made the final thing, we
- 6:19were driving home from a gig in Tronheim in Norway, which is like maybe
- 6:26a nine hour drive back to Auslo. So me and Martin are guitarists.
- 6:30We were just sitting in the car. I was driving and he was producing.
- 6:32So we basically made the whole song on a road trip on the way
- 6:36back home from a gig in December, like December last year, maybe I
- 6:43think it was. So it was like the final final touch on the album,
- 6:48and we mentioned it is your debut album. Might SiGe when when planned,
- 6:53but that was some of the things go through in mind with the songs.
- 6:56Do you want to showcase the diversity is of band? Do you want
- 6:58to play to your strengths and just play it youthink you know you can do
- 7:00well. Do you want to show people how many different sizes or other what
- 7:03such things go through your head. I think it's a little bit of both.
- 7:08I think mostly it's like I said, it's music that we love ourselves.
- 7:13We are very proud of it. We're very happy with the songs that
- 7:17are on there. I think it shows a lot of our strengths as a
- 7:23band, but also it shows diversity and like for me, this is a
- 7:31way to get a lot of the ideas that we've been storing up for the
- 7:38years before, to get them, give them a home, and get them
- 7:42out there. And it's been really nice because it's been a way for us
- 7:46to to sort of start creating new music again after having these songs for such
- 7:56a long time. You know, we started making the Other in twenty two
- 8:00any so you've sort of been constantly working on the songs for that album,
- 8:07and you know, we've been writing new songs all the way or along the
- 8:11way for this album. But it's nice too, like, Okay, we
- 8:16have these songs now that we're really proud of and we can get them out
- 8:18there and now we can like go in new direction after that. Yeah,
- 8:24So how would you say this album differs musically from your WAP Tribal Suicide,
- 8:30and so Global Suicide was sort of a like the songs that we kept from
- 8:39a lot of songs that we had before twenty twenty, and these were like
- 8:46the four songs that we felt like we're justifiable to get out because we had
- 8:50a lot of shit. You know, we had a lot of bad music.
- 8:56Start this band when you're like fifteen, so you write a lot of
- 8:58stupid music. But I think those four songs, we had them for a
- 9:03couple of years before releasing and we I think in twenty nineteen we recorded and
- 9:11upgraded them to a certain points and I think we got the four songs that
- 9:16we wanted. I think at that point, to be honest, before releasing
- 9:20the EP, we were at a point where we didn't really do as much
- 9:24as as we should have done because we've been doing this band for such a
- 9:28long time as like teens and not really feeling that God anywhere. So but
- 9:37we didn't really release anything either, so it was on us. But we're
- 9:41kind of lazy and yeah, and we've finally like we're like, okay,
- 9:48we should at least release this music because we're proud of it and if it
- 9:54doesn't go anywhere, it doesn't go anywhere, but let's just get it out
- 9:58there. And then we released the first single, Neurosis, first by ourselves,
- 10:05and then we got picked up by our label in the recordings, and
- 10:09that's when things sort of started rolling and they and they picked up the EP,
- 10:13and we released the rest of the EP with them as long as well
- 10:16as Neurosis sort of, and it was really great. I think the song
- 10:24what We Have Done, which has become our most popular song, I think
- 10:26it was written in maybe twenty eighteen or something like that. I remember writing
- 10:31a lot of this stuff on that song at like school. We went to
- 10:39university and for music and we had some studios there and I remember just sitting
- 10:45in the one of the rooms and just writing the song that's so cool from
- 10:50stay Away you are now like there must sometimes you must just sort of sit
- 10:54back there and think about it. Just got like what the fuck? Definitely,
- 11:01So the album comes out on September the eight flight but what's an extra
- 11:05fixation? What else have you got played? So we got the release,
- 11:09Then we got a tour in October with the German band and it's okay,
- 11:16which I'm really looking forward to. It's you know, we did a tour
- 11:20from February to April with Devin Townsend, which was our first ever European tour.
- 11:26That Yeah, that was amazing. It was great, and all the
- 11:31people on that tour we're so amazing and welcoming, so we really felt like,
- 11:39yeah, it was a good start to tour the tour life. No,
- 11:45No, I'm definitely not really lucky to be able to get that,
- 11:48And I think we learned a lot because we were sort of diving in blindly
- 11:54into this tour. So for this run, I think we have more prepared,
- 12:00know what we're going to expect, you know, how to live on
- 12:03a bus for six weeks. Laugh. But it's a big change in it,
- 12:09you know, like because you're a fine you're not a paople's space,
- 12:13so it's all yeah, definitely, it's sort of like you're you're not ever
- 12:20completely alone somebody, so you just have to get you Yeah. So you
- 12:26have like even in your bunk, you have this little like sort of curtain
- 12:31thing, but it's not you know how how how big of a wall.
- 12:35It's like a curtain between you and the other guys. So you have to
- 12:39get really comfortable with each other, which luckily we've been doing. We've been
- 12:43we're knowing each other for such a long time, it's not a problem.
- 12:48But as well, we shared the bus with We share the bus with Clone,
- 12:52the other support ban on the last tour, so we got to really
- 12:56know them as well. And this time we're sharing the bus with that.
- 12:58It's okay. So it's very nice way too, like get really familiar with
- 13:05people. You just kind of have to. Sorry, but I hope you
- 13:09get on with them otherwise you're in the ship. Yeah, I hope.
- 13:13So, yeah, it would suck having knowing on the first day of the
- 13:16tour. It's like, Okay, that's not gonna We're not gonna. I
- 13:22think it's gonna be all right, I brother, before we let you go.
- 13:26We've started Greeny Spotify playlists through Heavy based on the songs for people we
- 13:31speak to you, So using your own songs, can you give us a
- 13:33song for a playlist to get the party started, one for a playlist to
- 13:39save your marriage, and one for a playlistic to potentially end your marriage.
- 13:43All right, so from our own songs as shit, So to get the
- 13:50party started. I think I should do I have to choose the ones that
- 13:56I released, or can I choose some of the album release. I'll wait
- 14:01till the album comes out, then I'll let them after that, all right,
- 14:03So to get the albums to get the party started, I think the
- 14:07song Violent Tendencies, it's a good one. It's a sort of very upbeat,
- 14:11the rock anthem song. When we played live, we always get the
- 14:16party started. I think that's a good one to save your marriage. Ah,
- 14:26man, what can that be? A man? To save your marriage?
- 14:33Maybe maybe the song I'm sure bleed. Maybe it's very beautiful and honest.
- 14:48It's yeah, it's it's very truthful. You know. It's the shows
- 14:54shows your inner inner demons sort of song. So I think that's they could
- 15:01get good with your marriage and my marriage specifically. But you know, I
- 15:07like, ah, oh, that's a good question. Maybe. I mean,
- 15:16we have this song even over the Disarray, which is about the way
- 15:26religion and doctrines operating around the world. So maybe if some someone in the
- 15:31marriage believes in something and the other doesn't, that's a good, very diplomatic
- 15:35good way. Yeah, I'm not sure, all right. It's sort of
- 15:41an angry song song thanks very much for your time. Bro. The album
- 15:46More Death is a title listening before we chatted Marden. Very solid, very
- 15:50good album, so best luck with it and hopefully we see you so much.
- 15:54One day. We'd love to come to Australia. That'd be amazing.
