- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and I'm here with Luna. Luna: Hey everyone! Ready for another episode? Lucas: Last time, we were at the park looking at birds. Today, let's talk about something else we see at the park — flowers. Luna: Oh, flowers. I love flowers. They're so pretty and colorful. Lucas: Right. So let's learn how to say 'the flower is beautiful' in Cantonese. The word for flower is 花. And 'beautiful' is 靚. So 'the flower is beautiful' is 朵花好靚. Luna: 朵花好靚. That's a mouthful. Let me try: 朵花好靚. Lucas: Yeah, that's good! A bit of tone work — 靚 is pronounced with a high, flat tone. 靚. Try again. Luna: 朵花好靚. Lucas: Yes! Perfect. So if you see a beautiful flower, you can say 朵花好靚. Luna: Okay, so what if I want to say 'this flower is red'? Because I see a red one over there. Lucas: Good question. 'This flower' is 呢朵花. And 'red' is 紅色. So 'this flower is red' is 呢朵花係紅色. Luna: 呢朵花係紅色. That sounds nice. Lucas: Yeah. 係 means 'is'. So 呢朵花係紅色. You try. Luna: 呢朵花係紅色. Lucas: Great. Now, how about 'I like this flower'? We know 'I like' is 我鍾意. So 'I like this flower' is 我鍾意呢朵花. Luna: 我鍾意呢朵花. That's easy. 我鍾意呢朵花. Lucas: Perfect. Now, flowers often smell nice, right? The word for 'fragrant' or 'smell good' is 香. So 'the flowers are fragrant' is 啲花好香. Luna: 啲花好香. That's useful. So if I walk into a flower shop, I can say 啲花好香. Lucas: Exactly. And finally, if you want to offer a flower to someone, you can say 'do you want a flower?' That's 你要唔要一朵? — 你 means you, 要 means want, 唔要 is 'don't want', so 你要唔要一朵? is 'do you want one?' Luna: 你要唔要一朵? That's a bit long. Let me try: 你要唔要一朵? Lucas: Yeah, good! 朵 is a counter for flowers. So 一朵 is 'one flower'. You can use it with any flower. Luna: Okay, so let's practice. I see a red flower. 呢朵花係紅色. Lucas: Right. And it's beautiful — 朵花好靚. Luna: 朵花好靚. I like it. 我鍾意呢朵花. Lucas: And it smells nice — 啲花好香. Luna: 啲花好香. Now, if I want to give one to a friend, I say 你要唔要一朵? Lucas: Perfect. You've got it. Let's do a quick scene. Imagine we're at a park and I pick a flower. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Here, 呢朵花好靚. 你要唔要? Luna: Oh, for me? 我鍾意呢朵花! 多謝. Lucas: Yeah, there you go. You just said 'thank you' and 'I like this flower'. Luna: Cool. So these phrases are really handy for a park visit. Lucas: Yeah, or a flower shop, or even a garden. Let's stick with simple colors. You can say 啲花好靚 for now. Luna: Okay, so 啲花好靚 covers it. Lucas: Right. Let's do one more round of repetition. Repeat after me: 朵花好靚. Luna: 朵花好靚. Lucas: 呢朵花係紅色. Luna: 呢朵花係紅色. Lucas: 我鍾意呢朵花. Luna: 我鍾意呢朵花. Lucas: 啲花好香. Luna: 啲花好香. Lucas: 你要唔要一朵? Luna: 你要唔要一朵? Lucas: Excellent. You're really getting the hang of it. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. These phrases make me want to go to a park and try them out. Lucas: Do it. And remember, practice makes perfect. That's all for today's episode. We'll see you next time. Luna: Bye bye! 拜拜! Lucas: 拜拜!
