Latest / Paranormal Lens - A Crossroads Of Curiosities, LLC Production / BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! We are bringing “Remote Contact” to the Paranormal Research Symposium in historic Gettysburg this August!
Transcript
- 0:00Coming up, this isn't something that I would
- 0:02have ever thought of us having an opportunity
- 0:05like this a year ago. Welcome to our podcast
- 0:09where we take deep dives looking at various topics
- 0:11through a paranormal lens. So we have good news
- 0:17and then really good news. The first good news
- 0:20is that I think we're officially going to be
- 0:23done having to answer the question of are we
- 0:26going to be at either of the two really big Paracons
- 0:29that happened this weekend in Ohio and Pennsylvania?
- 0:32Because people should know by now, no, we did
- 0:35not attend either Paracon. Yeah. We did not.
- 0:42I wish we attended Pennhurst. That one would
- 0:46be big and fun looking. Just because you want
- 0:48to see Pennhurst? Do those big Paracons excite
- 0:52you? I've never been to a really big, big one
- 0:55before. I don't know. And it's Pennhurst. Two
- 0:59good combinations. That's true. I just feel like
- 1:05there's the super small ones where it's like,
- 1:07what's the point of paying for a table sitting
- 1:09there all day? You can't even hear the speakers.
- 1:12You're sitting there for no... Usually you have
- 1:14to get a vendor booth and you pay for no one
- 1:18to go buy stuff. outrageously priced yes for
- 1:24no one to show up and then not being able to
- 1:26see or hear any of the speakers that are going
- 1:30on in the other room because then you can't with
- 1:32our luck the one time it happened we leave our
- 1:34table and that's when all the people come so
- 1:36yep but so but so those are a separate issue
- 1:39but then you have the big pair of cons which
- 1:41i feel like is the opposite problem you pay all
- 1:43this money to attend and there's always hoopla
- 1:45and it's just kind of i don't know uh A lot of
- 1:49people and a lot of crowds for what, like a photo
- 1:53with a paranormal washed up celebrity that, you
- 1:56know, everyone has the same photo on Facebook
- 1:58of them with this washed up celebrity. And then
- 2:02they're like, it was so cool. I met so -and -so
- 2:05finally. And then it's like, they have no idea
- 2:07who you are. And then my thing too, I would want
- 2:10to explore Pennhurst, you know, and all these
- 2:11people, they post all these photos. Oh, did you
- 2:13get investigated? That's like all the comments.
- 2:15Did you experience anything? Did you get investigated?
- 2:17They're like, no, too many people. I don't like
- 2:20the people. I mean, I love people, but I don't
- 2:22like crowds. I feel like MadCon was the perfect
- 2:25amount of people because you were so able to
- 2:27go walk around Madison Seminary and so get away.
- 2:32I like MadCon, yeah. We filmed a bunch of our
- 2:36film Remote Contact, which I guess is a good
- 2:39segue. We filmed a bunch of Remote Contact at
- 2:42Madison Seminary where I did an isolated... like
- 2:47this is a big convention and i still did an isolated
- 2:49uh residence chamber uh remote contact vr experiment
- 2:53we were able to film and we had a booth and we
- 2:58had a lot of people come through and we got to
- 3:00network with a lot of people so i feel like that's
- 3:04the perfect size i don't know that to me the
- 3:07big ones are just like i don't know i'm not really
- 3:10too sure how much networking really gets done
- 3:13when it's all just like celebrity culture type
- 3:16of stuff and big crowds. But it's, I get what
- 3:19you mean, but I mean, it's never been at one.
- 3:21It would be fun. It's just a fun thing to do
- 3:24in the paranormal community. That's all it is
- 3:27pretty much. Yeah. Yeah. I'm not disagreeing.
- 3:30It would be fun one day to go, but we don't need
- 3:33to wait too long for our next. convention type
- 3:38of thing that we are super pumped. This is super
- 3:41good news. I teased good and super good. This
- 3:44is super good. Very exciting announcement. We
- 3:47mentioned Remote Contact. Guess what? Remote
- 3:51Contact didn't win any film festivals. Because
- 3:54I didn't submit to any film festivals. Ever since
- 3:57we rebranded as Crossroads Curiosities, we started
- 4:01making the least marketable films and projects
- 4:04ever. Remote Contact? Is for a very niche audience.
- 4:10Yes, yeah, it is. But the people that get it
- 4:15really get it. And one of the people that really
- 4:18got it. Or one of the groups who really got it,
- 4:21we should say. Yes, one of the groups actually
- 4:24is the Association of Paranormal Study. A big,
- 4:28very highly respected group that puts on. the
- 4:33annual Paranormal Research Symposium out of Gettysburg,
- 4:37Pennsylvania. So, while we're bringing this up,
- 4:42you may ask, well, well, well, well, our remote
- 4:46contact experiment, our remote contact initiative
- 4:50was selected to be a part of this year's Bigger
- 4:57Than Ever, Better Than Ever. paranormal research
- 5:01symposium what does that mean that means that
- 5:05in august we the three of us will be traveling
- 5:09to gettysburg pa to in the heart of historic
- 5:15downtown i think yeah yeah it's a it's this very
- 5:19historic spiritual area we will i'm really i'm
- 5:23really selling this we no but here's the thing
- 5:25we will be traveling to gettysburg to do a workshop
- 5:31and presentation panel on our remote contact
- 5:35project. We did a film, a 40 -minute film. We
- 5:39still have a website landing page, and people
- 5:42can submit. It's a form to take part in this
- 5:45ongoing experiment and study. We did multiple
- 5:49episodes on this before. It's essentially just
- 5:51to catch anyone up. We're not going to go re
- 5:54-explain remote contact here on this episode,
- 5:57but for people who are like, jog my memory what
- 5:59is that is that thing we do with uh swapping
- 6:02the blindfold for a vr headset when doing that's
- 6:05this method also during just general guided meditation
- 6:08and we're essentially experimenting with using
- 6:12vr and integrating vr in various aspects of paranormal
- 6:16investigation anyways we did a 40 minute film
- 6:18streaming on paraflix now we are taking And that
- 6:22film was literally just on the first three experiments
- 6:24we did. Like we came up with this idea, did three
- 6:27experiments, put it into a film and we're like,
- 6:29let's just rush this out. Let's get people watching
- 6:32it and then participating in the ongoing study.
- 6:35Now, after I think it's on like the one year
- 6:39anniversary or something like that. So a year
- 6:41later, we're going to Gettysburg and we're going
- 6:44to be doing this panel presenting what we've
- 6:47been doing with remote contact. And then. After
- 6:50an entire weekend of all these incredible, thoughtful,
- 6:57insightful minds in the paranormal field coming
- 7:00together for this symposium, Remote Contact,
- 7:06our work, is going to be published in a journal.
- 7:08So that's cool. Do you have anything to add before
- 7:15we go deeper into like the symposium and like
- 7:17what we can expect? Because this is I don't think
- 7:19I'm selling how exciting of news. No, you're
- 7:21just excited. Yeah, you're selling how exciting
- 7:24it is because it is. I am. Yeah, it is pretty
- 7:27exciting. I mean, it's not every day that like
- 7:30your work is recognized by a panel of your peers
- 7:38who are. all into the research aspect of the
- 7:43paranormal because there's you know the one side
- 7:46of the paranormal that's you know making the
- 7:49tv shows making like doing that side and then
- 7:53you have the other side where it's the paranormal
- 7:55research and diving deeper and they cross lines
- 7:59but there's there it's definitely one side or
- 8:02the other sometimes and to be able to be have
- 8:05our work recognized as being a research thinking
- 8:13thing that maybe people haven't thought of before
- 8:17is really cool you know you know brie i think
- 8:21i think that is why stuff like this isn't marketable
- 8:25because per the name we are literally at the
- 8:27crossroads of both side we're like right in the
- 8:30middle we have yeah the tv side production and
- 8:33then we're also doing like research stuff people
- 8:36want People want, you know, when they see like
- 8:39a film or something, if they don't really know
- 8:42too much about paranormal research, they just
- 8:44kind of want like the typical 5X structure type
- 8:47of stuff, which we have never and will never
- 8:51do, unfortunately. Well, not unfortunately, but
- 8:54for the masses. Yeah. But I don't know. To me,
- 8:59the prospect of... we have remote contact didn't
- 9:04submit it to any film festival there's no film
- 9:06festivals to submit that to and i know i can
- 9:08be stubborn and whatever and i'm still looking
- 9:11for beware the haunted bathtubs festivals okay
- 9:14so i get it but but i love that one you have
- 9:18to acknowledge remote there's zero film festivals
- 9:21that currently exist that you can submit it to
- 9:25so but to me anyone can make a film these days
- 9:30and get into a film festival there's a gazillion
- 9:33free festivals everyone has a camera in their
- 9:37pocket on their you can literally use your phone
- 9:40yeah literally i think anyone can make a film
- 9:44that gets accepted into a film festival it's
- 9:45actually not that hard to get into film festivals
- 9:48um to me it's a much bigger deal in the paranormal
- 9:53to have one of the most well -respected groups
- 9:57and conferences this paranormal research symposium
- 10:03publishing your work in a journal that's unheard
- 10:07of who gets their paranormal research published
- 10:10in a journal that's only for like the doctors
- 10:14and and you know sciencey science academics out
- 10:17there yeah never never have i ever thought any
- 10:22of mine or our work would be published in a journal
- 10:28for any reason like that's that doesn't even
- 10:31seem within like a realm of what we do but then
- 10:37it's like oh yeah i guess that is the thing and
- 10:40that we are doing that so yeah it's a weird thought
- 10:44but i love it yeah the way this works is we have
- 10:47to distill all of the work the what we're doing
- 10:51we have to figure out how to like really articulately
- 10:55describe what remote contact is, you know, cause
- 10:59I can't imagine we'll just play the whole movie
- 11:02and then just be like, all right, cool. Bye.
- 11:05So we're going all the way there. We have to
- 11:06adapt it to a panel workshop type of speech type
- 11:11of thing. And then afterwards we have to, after
- 11:14we present and we network and we talk with people
- 11:17all weekend, then we have a few months to submit
- 11:22a written version of it. That will then be published
- 11:28alongside all the others in this big journal
- 11:30that gets published. So you guys will be obviously
- 11:35helping on this homework. It's been a while since
- 11:39I've had homework to write an essay. Yeah, writing
- 11:42an essay? I haven't done that in a hot minute.
- 11:46Yeah. I still do them, sadly. Yeah, you're a
- 11:50nerd. You're still in school, you nerd. So let's
- 11:55go a little deeper into this symposium because
- 11:57they are very different than a typical convention.
- 12:01I think one of the reasons I wanted to talk a
- 12:03little bit at the top about big conventions is
- 12:06because that's what people think of when they
- 12:08hear you're going to a convention. This is not.
- 12:12This is a symposium. And as they say on their
- 12:15website, a symposium is a formal academic event.
- 12:19This is a formal event. And it prioritizes the
- 12:23sharing of research, knowledge and ideas through
- 12:27structured presentations, workshops and panels.
- 12:30We will be leading one on remote contact. And
- 12:33the whole point is to create an environment in
- 12:38historic Gettysburg to foster intellectual exploration.
- 12:42collaboration it's very collaboration and networking
- 12:46focus there's a vip networking dinner and ghost
- 12:50tour that uh we will be attending the night before
- 12:53as well uh because i guess we're vips um wait
- 12:59we are we are counted as vips yeah yeah yeah
- 13:05We're panelists, Angela. Well, I don't know.
- 13:08That doesn't necessarily mean VIPs. Well, you
- 13:11know what else? The only thing I kind of don't...
- 13:15Okay, so I agree, but also when it comes to us,
- 13:19I don't know that I agree. It says at some point,
- 13:22I'm just reading literally off their website,
- 13:23but at some point, I remember they used the term,
- 13:26I don't have a screenshot of this offhand, but
- 13:29they said we bring together panelists featuring
- 13:32some of the... uh biggest leaders in the paranormal
- 13:37and i'm like we're not leaders we're not paranormal
- 13:39research leaders but yeah so i disagree that
- 13:44we're leaders but i if you are a panelist leading
- 13:49a workshop at an event like this and getting
- 13:53your work published in their journal you are
- 13:54a vip cool but i love how that like another thing
- 14:01too i appreciate that The paranormal at large
- 14:06here is nothing like the occult. Because the
- 14:10thing I can't stand about the occult people is,
- 14:13like, the amount of gatekeeping and shit that
- 14:15goes on. Oh, yeah. I love the occult, but yes.
- 14:19This event is very, like, we're not. following
- 14:26like the status quo we're gonna break down all
- 14:29barriers of entry that's what i'm getting from
- 14:31it at least it's like i appreciate that there's
- 14:33no gatekeeping of knowledge and like i i've always
- 14:37thought that like look look at the three of us
- 14:40this podcast we're buffoons we yeah we are not
- 14:48these articulate we're not articulate grandmaster
- 14:53um you know condescending narcissistic pricks
- 14:59that sit on their little ego tower and whatever
- 15:03and think they know everything right we always
- 15:06say there's no experts in the field uh all we
- 15:09are far from experts no there's no such thing
- 15:12actually yeah um all we are to our credit we're
- 15:18genuine we're real we're relatable and we have
- 15:24genuine real and relatable curiosity i think
- 15:27that curiosity is why we're able to land on these
- 15:32ideas and think about things long term and have
- 15:37these long form uh conversations about stuff
- 15:40that that kind of harnesses um and kind of feels
- 15:44and is is is uh generating a space where big
- 15:48ideas can happen and i i appreciate that people
- 15:52like us who just are constantly theorizing and
- 15:56being curious and then saying we're stumbling
- 15:59on this big idea i don't think anyone's done
- 16:02it before we speak through the film language
- 16:05so we put a put out a film about it um and now
- 16:10we're getting published in a journal i think
- 16:12that's very cool that you don't need to be some
- 16:16high -strung like academic egomaniac person you
- 16:22know to get get to get approved and be uh published
- 16:26at events anymore get this some people spend
- 16:31years building their credibility and their reputation
- 16:33we uh one year one one year and then one year
- 16:39we're in a journal we're in a journal published
- 16:42yes which i mean we're not saying we're like
- 16:49It only took us a year. We're so great. No. No.
- 16:55It's definitely crazy to think of where we were
- 16:59a year ago. Even today. Yeah. To now be in this,
- 17:08have this opportunity. Like, this isn't something
- 17:13that I would have ever thought of. us having
- 17:17an opportunity like this a year ago like this
- 17:20wasn't even on my radar yeah so do you think
- 17:25events because like again this is there are no
- 17:29vendors at this event there are no celebrities
- 17:32at this event there is a vip ghost tour the night
- 17:37before but there's no like Ghost hunting. We're
- 17:41in Gettysburg. We're going to tag everyone on
- 17:44this premium whatever, spend $1 ,000 to ghost
- 17:47hunt with a celebrity type of thing. It's all
- 17:51a structured, collaborative, network -heavy,
- 17:55research -heavy, as academic as possible event.
- 18:01I mean, I think in just my opinion that that's
- 18:06more exciting to be a part of. uh then something
- 18:10like i mean no shade again but yeah something
- 18:14like the big penhurst con or something i don't
- 18:17know i did you like they're totally different
- 18:22vibes yeah yeah no hate on either but this is
- 18:27just more exciting to me because it actually
- 18:29had to be approved and there was like a whole
- 18:32jury that had that selected they're very picky
- 18:35these are great people to network with and really
- 18:39excited to see everyone that's gonna be there
- 18:42and present and um yeah it's gonna be a different
- 18:47experience for us so it's i'm just excited because
- 18:51it's gonna be a bunch of like deep thinkers yeah
- 18:54about the paranormal and whatever we're gonna
- 18:57be talking about it i have the fear we're gonna
- 19:00get down there and um everyone who's there like
- 19:05you know, heavy into paranormal research and
- 19:07they're going to use big words and I'm going
- 19:09to be like, Oh no, I don't know anything you're
- 19:13talking about. They're going to ask me about
- 19:14a specific theory. I'm going to be like, yeah.
- 19:19i totally know what you're talking about i feel
- 19:22like you need to explain further because i don't
- 19:25know yeah it's like i'm here for vr stuff i mean
- 19:31yeah which is an awesome concept cool research
- 19:35but like also at the same time i don't know what
- 19:37else is out there and i feel like i'm gonna be
- 19:41the person who's like a fish out of water but
- 19:44i don't know speaking of fish out of water look
- 19:46at the flip side you show up And then you say,
- 19:49oh, yeah, I just did this solo in this residual
- 19:54energy containment vessel. And they're going
- 19:56to be like, what the hell is this bitch talking
- 19:57about? Residual energy containment vessel. Yeah.
- 20:03Also, you said that this isn't a formal event.
- 20:06Like, how formal is this? How formal? Like, suit
- 20:08and tie formal? No. Or, like, business casual
- 20:11formal? No, no, no. Or, like, what? The dress
- 20:14code. on the site literally says like family
- 20:16friendly attire so it's formal yeah formal in
- 20:21terms of structure and like it's serious research
- 20:25like you can't just show up and be like i was
- 20:28like do i need to go shopping for like actual
- 20:30formal attire presenting and stuff because like
- 20:34what kind of event is this Yeah. I'm glad you
- 20:38had the same thought as I did. Because Ben also
- 20:42said that. In my brain, I'm like, formal. How
- 20:45formal? How? how formal like exactly what i was
- 20:50thinking i was like do i need to go shopping
- 20:53again and for something i probably will only
- 20:55wear like once a year no no formal in terms of
- 20:58like tone and structure because like yeah yeah
- 21:01yeah i'm glad they don't want people thinking
- 21:03this is just like you show up and just wander
- 21:05around type of thing yeah you can't just wander
- 21:09in and out I imagine, of panels. Like, they want
- 21:11people involved. They should make it a black
- 21:13tie event. I could finally wear my prom dress
- 21:15again. They should make it a Civil War event.
- 21:18If you wear anything. Everyone comes in period
- 21:21piece clothing and do a full reenactment. What
- 21:26if it's, like, super strict? Because we're in
- 21:28Gettysburg. To have it, like, Civil War era.
- 21:31Like, everything you bring or wear has to fit
- 21:36within that period, right? And then we just come
- 21:38in. The only thing that's not Civil War era are
- 21:42these ridiculous VR goggles. So, VR anybody?
- 21:48Yeah. I feel this makes me want to go to a haunted
- 21:53battlefield or something to do the 360 for this
- 21:57VR stuff. Yeah, we're definitely going to have
- 22:00to take the opportunity while we're down there
- 22:02to get some sort of 360 footage capture. One
- 22:06of the battlefields down there. Yeah. Oh, that's
- 22:10the only thing I remember of Gettysburg. Cause
- 22:12I've been there as a kid, like one other time
- 22:14or whatever. Yeah. Yeah. And I only remember
- 22:17like the big giant battlefield fields and like
- 22:21the green fields and just knowing that there's
- 22:25thousands of people who died in those fields.
- 22:29I don't remember the actual town. I just remember
- 22:31the actual battlefields. It's really cool. And
- 22:35all the statues they have of people. It's a cool,
- 22:40cool place. I've always wanted to go to Gettysburg.
- 22:44I remember one time in the MSU Paranormal Club,
- 22:46we were like sitting in a big circle and we all
- 22:50like introduced ourselves. And then like the
- 22:52famous place we'd want to investigate most. And
- 22:55I said Gettysburg. And then someone said, why
- 22:58is this a field? And then everyone just kind
- 23:01of grumbled. They're like, yeah, it's just. Nothing
- 23:04cool about Gettysburg. It's just a field. I hated
- 23:07everyone in that room. Except for Brew. Brew
- 23:14is pretty cool. That's so funny because the only
- 23:17thing that has a profound impact in my memory
- 23:20of Gettysburg was the fields. That's hilarious.
- 23:26Yeah, they're not just a field. I bet you can
- 23:30feel the history. extreme major important history
- 23:35where many people have died it's very it's not
- 23:40just a field it's also home to the annual uh
- 23:44paranormal research symposium that in and of
- 23:49itself is significant it is it's really cool
- 23:53all right any final thoughts i just wanted to
- 23:57announce this and kind of we're recording this
- 24:00really Late, usually we backlog these episodes,
- 24:04but I wanted to announce this on the pod because
- 24:07it's cool. Yeah. We'll obviously be covering
- 24:09it way more in depth, you know, as we get closer
- 24:14and see who all is going to be there. And obviously
- 24:19during and after the event, we'll provide coverage.
- 24:21So any initial, like, final thoughts? Like, what's
- 24:24your excitement level? Because this is pretty
- 24:26cool. My excitement level is pretty high. pretty
- 24:31high thanks for listening to this week's episode
- 24:37of paranormal lens if you liked what you heard
- 24:39every five star rating and positive review tells
- 24:42the algorithms we're a worthy podcast and pushes
