- 6:39It's called midgard musings, and send a voice message to me.
- 6:43That away as well. Yeah, like I said, you know,
- 6:48here we are genuine on with our random Heathen, ramblings wanted
- 6:52to touch on the question that grow over there from the
- 6:57deathlanders when he sent his feedback in.
- 7:01So thank you Crow for that. Really appreciate the
- 7:05interaction, really appreciate. You asking questions that can
- 7:07spark more dialogue, you know? And he asked an interesting
- 7:11question. He asked if myself, or our, our
- 7:18tribe, has any sort of like pregame ritual for hunting, or
- 7:23if we do anything, provide do anything before going out there
- 7:28on a hunt, You know, so my response to that is, I don't
- 7:35have anything currently that I do because I haven't gone
- 7:39hunting in quite some time. Mainly just, you know, due to
- 7:44the fact that, you know, when I first moved down from New York
- 7:47state to Tennessee, I was I was very young and I was getting
- 7:53into a new life, I didn't really think out or have a whole lot of
- 7:59You know, understanding of what I was doing.
- 8:02I was thinking outside of my head, upside of my brain head
- 8:08when I was doing what I was doing back then, but be that as
- 8:10it may move to Tennessee and settle into a life and I never
- 8:14really quite settled in a place long enough to pursue hunting
- 8:19again. I used to do it a lot when I was
- 8:21a kid. And my young adult years while
- 8:24living in New York, small game, big game, you know, Turkey.
- 8:28Key Deer. Vermin control.
- 8:34You know like we would we would have a pretty bad problem with
- 8:38squirrels and coyotes and other types of called Vermin or pests
- 8:45and woodchucks. We called them to.
- 8:48They were like those gopher things and really fat chunky,
- 8:50boys. They would always dig up the
- 8:53yards in the fields and really wreak havoc on your on your
- 8:57crops to just digging stuff up. So between it all, you know I
- 9:01was very comfortable around fire.
- 9:03Her arms and my uncle and people that I grew up around, whereas
- 9:08it Hunters as well. So I was brought up around it,
- 9:12hunting, fishing, you name, it. Matter of fact, you know, most
- 9:17of my childhood, I can say whenever I was not doing
- 9:21anything that was, you know, school or work chores, that sort
- 9:26of thing. I was the kid that was out in
- 9:28the woods. I didn't sit for long lengths of
- 9:31time in front of the television. Or.
- 9:35We really didn't even believe it or not have internet.
- 9:38Until I was like a teenager So we did, you know, what computers
- 9:43we had was was you know, not connected to the internet.
- 9:46It was one of those old like boxy Apple, Mac computers, or
- 9:49whatever. It was that used to seeing like,
- 9:50the public libraries would take, like, 30 years for the darn
- 9:54thing to load up. No internet.
- 9:56So again, all my all my spare time, whatever time I had was
- 10:00spent. In nature learning things about
- 10:05nature, which is an interesting thing because I did not grow up
- 10:09heat, and I did not grow up with any sort of pagan or Heathen,
- 10:14you know, ideals. It was, it was a very strict
- 10:16strict and structured Christian environment that I grew up in
- 10:20and belief system and worldviews and all that kind of stuff, so,
- 10:24but regardless, I'm glad that I grew up around the people that I
- 10:28did and learn the things that I did about.
- 10:31About nature, melt surviving being self-sufficient to the
- 10:37point of growing, your own food, and raising your own livestock
- 10:41and all that kind of stuff. You know, work on a farm for
- 10:43years, probably a little actually was over a decade that
- 10:46I work on a farm, that we raise beef, cattle and cut our own
- 10:51firewood and all that kind of stuff.
- 10:53But so, you know, I never, I never resumed hunting or any of
- 10:57those extracurricular activities.
- 11:00When I moved down to Tennessee, Is moving around a lot when I
- 11:03seem to get settled somewhere. It was you know kind of in a
- 11:06more heavily populated area where like you knows inner-city
- 11:12type environments, you know they weren't very big cities.
- 11:15There was a lot of rural - to the areas that I lived across
- 11:19the state. And I could have taken the
- 11:22opportunity to get my hunting license and do all those sorts
- 11:27of things to get some get myself set up for hunting in my areas,
- 11:32but I just never did. Too many other things going on
- 11:36in my life, I guess that I'm in here.
- 11:38We now, here we are now. Live in 15 years or here.
- 11:42I am now live in 15 years, in the state and haven't once gone
- 11:46gone hunting for like big game. But the sort of, you know, what
- 11:55Crow is asking about any sort of ritual or whatever.
- 11:58Beforehand made me, made me think, you know, because maybe
- 12:02the question was was pointed to the you any sort of religious or
- 12:06spiritual rituals before hunting a sort of, you know, sacrifice
- 12:12to the gods or prayer even or something to honor sacred before
- 12:17going out on a hunt, anything like that.
- 12:20And while that may have not been A anything like that when I was
- 12:27a young man and going from my youth, into my young adult
- 12:31years. There was definitely ritual
- 12:35elements to my preparation of going hunting.
- 12:41And some of that may have been offering a prayer to my deity at
- 12:46the time, praying for a successful hunts.
- 12:50Because the the the hunt was and always has been for me, you
- 12:55know, an action taken to provide for your family, provide for
- 13:00your tribe, your whatever group you want to call it and your
- 13:05loved ones. And those people who are nearest
- 13:06and dearest to to you because the fruits of your labor, you
- 13:11know, the game that you caught that was sore or killed in the
- 13:16hunt with Herbie. I say caught.
- 13:18I mean, like if you're trapping or if you're fishing caught
- 13:21something, if you took a life, you took the game out that you
- 13:25were going out for deer turkey, whatever it was, that was shared
- 13:32with the community that was shared with our, you know, it
- 13:36was a church community at the time but you know, you a
- 13:38different name to whatever it was.
- 13:39So you could say, Tribe to the Kindred or whatever you want to
- 13:44name. That was what it was for, it
- 13:47wasn't for sport, you know, it wasn't just to see, you know,
- 13:49how many tags you could fill for the air.
- 13:51It was for to provide for the community and everybody had
- 13:56their, you know, we we shared it. so the, the the aspect of,
- 14:03you know, appealing to a deity or praying for a successful
- 14:09hunt, it was to gift to the tribe, to gift to the community,
- 14:14and to provide for those that maybe didn't go hunting
- 14:17themselves, You know, so in that aspect in one one aspect I would
- 14:25say that that's one way that I would have had a sort of ritual
- 14:29you know before going hunting. Secondly they were literal
- 14:32physical things that I would do that.
- 14:34Have a very ritual aspect to it. I feel and it made me think
- 14:40because if you didn't put the name you know that this was a
- 14:44ritual part of things, you may not think it.
- 14:46For instance, I'm talking about preparing the night.
- 14:50For, or the morning of, you know, and the morning laying out
- 14:55your clothes in a certain area that you would go hunting in and
- 15:00your attire, everything that you are from your headgear to your
- 15:05camouflage, to the Footwear to the weapon that you took out
- 15:10your hunting implement. The would it be a rifle or a bow
- 15:13or whatever it was, you know, everything had a spot,
- 15:16everything had a place and I would prepare that way then.
- 15:20Night before. And so, I would get into this
- 15:21mindset that I am about to embark on a hunt either that
- 15:25night. The next day, the morning,
- 15:27whatever it was, and it would prepare me and would get me into
- 15:31a state of mind to know what it is.
- 15:33I was doing. I would get up that morning and
- 15:35I would know exactly where my things were and I would have you
- 15:38know, a small ritual of whether it be drinking coffee or have a
- 15:41bite to eat or read a little bit or something to change the kind
- 15:45of prepare my mind for things and then I would go out, you
- 15:49know, quite often Would be before the Sun never came up.
- 15:51So it was, you know, going into a dark and sometimes unfamiliar
- 15:57place. You may have scouted areas with
- 15:59wet. The other thing to scouting
- 16:02preparing yourself, physically for the hunt ahead.
- 16:05You know, we wouldn't just admit as many times as I can think of,
- 16:08you know, I wouldn't just decided I'm going hunting, you
- 16:12know, in this area, I'm going to go hunting in that area without
- 16:16first knowing that area, you know, knowing what the terrain
- 16:19was. Like, in preparing in that way.
- 16:21And I feel like those are some very ritual elements to
- 16:25preparing for for something that can turn out to be such a
- 16:28special thing, you know, something.
- 16:30So sacred, even if you don't take anything during the hunt,
- 16:34even if you don't, even if you come back empty-handed, you
- 16:37know, the experience. Gives you a lot of
- 16:43opportunities. You know, I can remember going
- 16:47out on hunts and sitting still and, you know, for hours as you
- 16:53want it to blend in. You wanted to be part of the
- 16:55force, you want to part of your surroundings and to blend in
- 16:59with the natural wildlife and things that would happen and go
- 17:02around, you know. So there was, yes, there may be
- 17:05scouting yesterday be tracking that you would do, but then
- 17:07there was also time for you to sit still Eight and to be
- 17:10patient and enduring those times, you know, your mind gets
- 17:13to thinking, you get to your senses, get to be heightened
- 17:19with the things that you see the things that you hear, you know,
- 17:21you look and you scan your landscape and you see things in
- 17:26a way that you maybe hadn't seen before, you know, the woods look
- 17:30a lot different at 5 a.m. when the sun comes up and it does at
- 17:33High Noon or even at 6:00 in the evening when the Sun is setting
- 17:38or whatever. You know, those those are He has
- 17:40those terrains, Shadows cast, different images, and sounds and
- 17:46the atmosphere, you know, things, feel different things,
- 17:49look different in a lot of those ways.
- 17:54And so I feel like there's a lot of ritual elements to reaching
- 18:00the the hunt and before you start your hunt up to and
- 18:04including the haunts, you know, never mind the fact that you
- 18:07know, when you see that animal Coming that you are hunting for,
- 18:12you know, receive the opportunity to raise up your
- 18:17your firearm and place the cross hairs on the body of the animal
- 18:21and harvest it, or Draw back your bow.
- 18:26And, and those seconds, it takes to steady yourself.
- 18:30Relax yourself is so many different things about
- 18:32everything leading up to and including the hunt that is very
- 18:35ritualistic. I feel You know, so maybe in
- 18:39some ways I didn't for many guys, you might say a ritual,
- 18:44you know, laying things out for the gods or sacrificing
- 18:47something and gift gesture to the sacred to bless the Hunts or
- 18:53whatever. But in my own ways as, and at
- 18:57those times, I feel that there were many ritual elements to the
- 19:01hunt and everything leads it, that leads up to it.
- 19:04I don't really know what the rest of my people do or have.
- 19:08Done in their lives. I don't know of anybody right
- 19:10now. That is currently a an avid
- 19:13hunter or active Hunter. That's part of the tribe, you
- 19:16know? But the tribe is still young and
- 19:17it's still new and there's very few members and we're slowly but
- 19:21surely growing so that could be something that we develop as you
- 19:25say. You know, words lead to more
- 19:27words and deeds lead to more deeds and as tribes grow as
- 19:31people grow as we determine or develop traditions, That could
- 19:36be come something that is a part of said Traditions, you know,
- 19:43the areas that, you know, most of the people that I know live
- 19:47in are closer to the city, but there are family members of
- 19:51those people that live in more, rural error areas that are way
- 19:55out kind of in the sticks, you know, barely any cell phone
- 19:57service, you know, neighbors are far apart and there's land and
- 20:02property too. That they have permission to
- 20:06Hunter or whatever on. So sure, I mean it's definitely
- 20:10something that can become more part of our tribe Traditions or
- 20:14individual Traditions. So I think it's a great question
- 20:18and I think it's a lot of, you know, give some food for
- 20:22thought, especially coming from like a heathen perspective.
- 20:25You know, the Hunt is such a sacred thing, hear about stories
- 20:30in the lore, like the wild Hunt. You know what that all means?
- 20:32Of course, you know, actual hunting and sting of animals is
- 20:35something that is very, it was very common for our ancient
- 20:40ancestors, maybe not even. So ancient, you know, folks that
- 20:44grew up in your areas within the last century, you know, that
- 20:49would not have food on the table.
- 20:51If they didn't catch it themselves, or grow it
- 20:53themselves, you know, all that sort of thing.
- 20:57So I think it's great. I think it's a great thing to
- 20:59think about There are even certain deities in Norse
- 21:06paganism and Norse Heathen ring. I think think of older has one
- 21:11of them got of that is that is often attested to in the lore is
- 21:16having things to do with hunting and Sport and competition and
- 21:21things of that nature that no, your yes you may be going out to
- 21:25to, you know, harvest food for your family, but there's a,
- 21:29there's a game involved. It's you know, there's Smarting,
- 21:33the wildlife and being silent, and concealed, and all these
- 21:39various things that just while you may be trying to provide a
- 21:43meal for your loved ones, it's not just a simple as driving him
- 21:47to the store to the market, or to the Butcher and saying, give
- 21:49me a pound of this. Give me a pound with that, you
- 21:52know, there's skill involved. There's there's mental and
- 21:54physical skill involved with something like that.
- 22:00So great question, Goethe Crow from the death, Landers over
- 22:04there and Idaho. So thank you so much for sending
- 22:08that in and I hope that that long response which was pretty
- 22:14long give, you gives you some things to think about as well as
- 22:18you gave things to me to think about and hopefully all of the
- 22:22listeners here as well, you know, so everybody that's
- 22:25listening, you know, what is your Hunting ritual or pregame
- 22:29ritual before you go hunting, even whatever you want to call
- 22:32it, you know, do you have one? If you do you can call into the

- 31:01heard thus far and see if it's something that you find.
- 31:04Interesting. So continuing on I wanted to
- 31:08kind of give you a recap of things over the last week or so
- 31:12since you've you know last heard from me, the last podcast that
- 31:18went up was See, was on the 27th, just a few days before the
- 31:25tribe that I am part of celebrated, are you love, it's
- 31:30zoo or the funeral Feast modeled and fashioned a bit after the
- 31:36more historical, he than the view of Yuletide celebrations.
- 31:41So, while we did not celebrate, you'll for three nights.
- 31:44Nor did we have our, you will Feast on the first night of
- 31:47you'll instead, we rather held, are you, will Feast on the The
- 31:50third night, we made some you know, modifications to that
- 31:53because let's face it, right? Not everybody can afford to take
- 31:57you know three days straight off from work and schedules are
- 32:00being what they are and Lifestyles and such.
- 32:05We found it more expedient and beneficial to have it on a
- 32:10weekend, just, you know, on the third day of you'll.
- 32:13So it worked out well enough for us.
- 32:17And boy. Oh boy, was it a great?
- 32:19Was it a great time? My wife and I hosted it at our
- 32:23house, at a small group, of those of our tribe and the
- 32:28nearest and dearest to us those that we would classify or say as
- 32:33part of art Inner Circle are in and guard.
- 32:37We held our ritual year out the property that was put, that was
- 32:43kind of fun because it was, it was windy.
- 32:46There was some challenges getting our fire started for the
- 32:51ritual and and stuff and there was just a whole bunch of, you
- 32:55know, seemingly like roadblocks that would pop up for us to
- 32:59start our ritual, but it did, it did go over.
- 33:02Well, we had a wonderful. Wonderful time.
- 33:05I was busy all day. All day, cooking and preparing
- 33:09we made, we had ass like a hickory smoked ham in the oven
- 33:14Mayday. It's called a Travelers stew.
- 33:19The recipe came out of like a Dungeons and Dragons cookbook,
- 33:22but I love the name of it travelers to because it makes
- 33:25makes me think of Odin and 0, then being one of our, you know,
- 33:30one of the deities that we always hail and make sure to
- 33:33give an offering to during during you'll, it's been a
- 33:36tradition now for the Last couple years.
- 33:39So we want to maintain that tradition.
- 33:42So we made a travelers to it's basically like a beef stew,
- 33:46hearty beef stock and you add whatever you want to it.
- 33:48This one has tato's and carrots. You know, so it's just a really
- 33:55hearty beef stew and it hit hard.
- 33:57Like, I mean, are like a hit good, you know, it was, it was a
- 34:00good hearty stew for a somewhat cold Mid Winter night, in
- 34:08addition to that. I made a neat, mushroom soup.
- 34:11First time ever making it it was very simple.
- 34:14It was you know I use basically the sum of the stock from The
- 34:18Travelers stew for four additional flavor but you know
- 34:21had some course Mushrooms. There was celery, carrots
- 34:26potatoes, as well. And other seasonings need added
- 34:32some non-traditional Seasons because the recipe that I was
- 34:35pulling it from was very, very Bland.
- 34:37It was like four or five ingredients on.
- 34:39Like I got a doctor this up a little bit, you know, I got to
- 34:41give it some sort of oomph said, whatever that is.
- 34:45I don't know. But some, some Gusto, you know
- 34:47what I mean? So throwing some rosemary and
- 34:51garlic and shallots and things like that.
- 34:54Give it some nice flavors to cook in just slowly slowly cook
- 34:57that in the afternoons. We got a mushroom soup,
- 35:00travelers to. We had our ham, had some roasted
- 35:06potatoes oven, roasted red potatoes, which were just
- 35:09delicious. I made a Nordic nut loaf or
- 35:14Stone Age, nut loaf, it's pretty cool.
- 35:16You can Google it. If you go there to the old
- 35:19Google machine and just Nordic nut bread or Viking nut bread,
- 35:24even you do that. You'll find a bunch of different
- 35:26recipes, but essentially it's a variety of nuts and seeds.
- 35:29I think recipe that I used is has almonds.
- 35:33Pecans, pecans ending them where you're from, it's either pecan,
- 35:37or pecan, or pecan. I think I'm in the South so I
- 35:40got to say, pecan, walnuts flax seeds, sunflower seeds.
- 35:48I think the recipe also called for pumpkin seeds but I could
- 35:51find any that were, you know, Shelled and not, you know,
- 35:56flavored in any sort of way, so they're all like raw nuts, you
- 35:59know, raw nuts and seeds and then to make the loaf Stick
- 36:02Together, The Binding agent is just oil, olive oil.
- 36:05I use olive oil and eggs, so there's no flour.
- 36:09No, starch is a whatever included in this and you bake it
- 36:12in the oven for like an hour. And of course, some of the oil,
- 36:17whatever will separate and rise to the top, you have to kind of
- 36:22remove some of that or whatever. But then It comes right part.
- 36:25You let it set, you know, for like 20, 30 minutes, whatever
- 36:29and it falls right out of the love.
- 36:30The love the loaf pan. So, yeah, you put it on the loaf
- 36:33pan. Pack it down, nice and tight,
- 36:35and you've got a dense nutrient Rich.
- 36:39Nut / seed, bread loaf, whatever you want to call it.
- 36:44Of course, we also had some other things as well.
- 36:47One of our tribe members brought a apple crisp, which was
- 36:50delicious. He actually made it from scratch
- 36:52and use me. Millet seeds instead of like a
- 36:57crumble crust or whatever. It was really, really good.
- 37:01One of our near near and dear friends, brought a cinnamon bun
- 37:06cheesecake or a cinema and cheesecake or something like
- 37:08that. It was really awesome.
- 37:10And then, of course, there was meat, you know, there was me,
- 37:13there was Scotch, there was wine.
- 37:15There was all kinds of delicious drinks.
- 37:17We drank ourselves, silly plate games.
- 37:20We played this thing called, that's what she said.
- 37:24Kind of like if you've ever watched that TV show the office,
- 37:28which I'm a huge fan of, by the way, Michael Scott, you know,
- 37:32that's what she said. But the game itself is like,
- 37:35basically like a, even, well, I wouldn't say more raunchy
- 37:40version but it's like, you know, it's like Cards Against
- 37:44humanity' like a version of Cards Against Humanity.
- 37:47But with the focus of, you know, more like sexual innuendoes and
- 37:51related, things like that of an adult theme.
- 37:53So it's Really fun and good time.
- 37:57And also, we had like a meat, meat meat and cheese tray, like
- 38:05prosciutto and salami sausages and all kinds of great things.
- 38:11It was awesome. Your the feast part of was a lot
- 38:13of work that I put into it all But it was a, it was, it was
- 38:17well worth it. Everybody seemed to really enjoy
- 38:20it. So you know, we did our ham for
- 38:23a reason, we made ham because one of the big things for us for
- 38:27you Liz to venerate and honor frere.
- 38:34So, we wanted to have, we talked about menu items, and I shared
- 38:38some ideas and everybody liked it to make things that were that
- 38:44we're like a nod to freyr that seemed, you know, really wears
- 38:48an honor to him. So, of course, ham, you know, a
- 38:51little bit of gulen thirsty to bless the feast with, you know,
- 38:58it was Tradition at least at one point to swear, Oaths verb or
- 39:03so. While we could not perhaps
- 39:05Harvest or consume wild boar, we got the next best thing.
- 39:09And it was a hickory smoked ham, the nut and seed bread was also
- 39:16in, in respected honored to for are because of the fertility
- 39:19aspects of for are, you know, nuts and seeds are where the
- 39:24life of the tree. The thing that grows from is
- 39:28from the nut, or the seed portion quite often.
- 39:30So it was a symbol to consume and eat things that are Are very
- 39:34fertility and things for good crops, that sort of thing.
- 39:40We want to make sure that that was part of the part of the
- 39:43feast as well. And so there was a lot of
- 39:46thought not to go into this whole thing.
- 39:50Another great thing that happened this year that hadn't
- 39:53happened before was our Goethe, who's been on this podcast
- 39:58before, Bingo? You go back to my podcast
- 40:03catalog and just look for the one of those rambling with a
- 40:05dingo. That's that thing.
- 40:07Go right there. He's my goalie, he's my brother,
- 40:09he's just an awesome awesome person, his daughter, his young
- 40:14daughter came, and she was part of the ritual, and she was part
- 40:18of he, you know, the whole thing which was a first and that's,
- 40:22you know, that's that's what really, really just touches.
- 40:25Our hearts is, when we have our children and the children of the
- 40:28tribe, you know, I'm part of things and she was right.
- 40:30Right there. You know in the fire and it was
- 40:32so cute because we got you know my wife was outside of the
- 40:35ritual area which was just in our yard for the for the sake of
- 40:39logistics. We couldn't really do it.
- 40:40Anywhere else. She was taking, you know, some
- 40:42pictures of what we were doing outside of our ritual space.
- 40:48And dingoes daughter was so cute because she was standing there.
- 40:51And she has this, this handmade one that her dad made by thing
- 40:55go made for her. I believe it's made out of Cedar
- 40:58little Branch, you know, and it's sanded and it's smooth and
- 41:01it's got like a leather lanyard. So it's her one and she brought
- 41:04it and she was standing there by the fire.
- 41:06And we were reading our ritual and we were going through our
- 41:09oceans and picture that my wife caught was of heard standing
- 41:14there with holdin holdin her wand high in the air and Going
- 41:18up to the sky and stuff and it was just so awesome to see her
- 41:24being involved in the ritual. You know, she knew what she was
- 41:27doing. You could tell you could look at
- 41:28her face from the pictures, you could see her face her
- 41:30expression and she was doing her thing man, like she was doing
- 41:34her thing and she knew exactly what she was doing.
- 41:36Whatever it was, you know, I can't necessarily say, for sure
- 41:41what it was that she was doing. But by the gods, you know, she
- 41:43knew what she was doing. And I'm sure that because of
- 41:46that sincerity, because Of that, genuine focus on intent that the
- 41:53gods noticed as well. So we did that, we had our
- 41:57Feast, we had, we exchange gifts, or we gave gifts, you
- 42:00know, as host and Hostess my wife.
- 42:03And I we each got gifts for for all of our attendees and our
- 42:08guests to of the guests, are gave gifts to my wife, and I got
- 42:13a bottle of me and she got something cool for.
- 42:16She's a big like Nightmare Before Christmas fanatic, and
- 42:18she loves that. So, she got something cool
- 42:21Nightmare Before, Christmas themed and then after that,
- 42:23we'll all that was done. We Cleaned up a little bit to
- 42:27prepare for our sambal ritual, which is as some of you may
- 42:30know, I've done some podcast episodes about what sambal is
- 42:32but it's, you know, toasts posts and Oaths.
- 42:35We had a really long round of toasts and very long round of
- 42:39boasts, no owes this year, which is okay.
- 42:43I never pressure anybody into feeling like they have to oath
- 42:46anything because of the severity because of the solemnity of an
- 42:51oath. It's a joyous thing.
- 42:54It's a wonderful thing. It carries a lot of weight and a
- 42:56lot of power, but I never pressure anyone into doing it.
- 43:01And so nowhere. No.
- 43:03Oh, those given or taken at you'll this year but you've got
- 43:07the rest of the year. We've hopefully we'll be doing
- 43:09some more you know tribe Gatherings and things where you
- 43:13know, oath can be incorporated. It's not an uncommon thing to
- 43:17have toasts boasts oats and sambal a part of other major,
- 43:22you know, holy tides, and events that we might hold.
- 43:24So it could happen. 2021 is just starting off.
- 43:29And so, yeah, that's the recap of our you elevate Sue or you
- 43:34will Feast for this year. So there you go.
- 43:41If you guys and gals out there is also celebrated you'll in
- 43:44your own ways, you know, recently, right around that last
- 43:48full moon that just passed then. Go the old the you and yours as
- 43:52well. So let's get into wrapping up
- 43:56this episode with our random stanza from the Hall of them
- 44:01all. Today's stanza is going to be
- 44:05stanza 120, which depending on the translation of the have a
- 44:11mall that you're reading from. It might be numbered as stanza.
- 44:16122. It might be 119. so, I'm going
- 44:24to read as usual from A number of versions odd.
- 44:28And in Taylor starting off with Hollander, move over to, you
- 44:32know, Bellows Brave, Thorpe even and then the Jackson Crawford
- 44:37Wanderers, all them all to wrap it up.
- 44:40You know, so starting off with in the hall under translation.
- 44:44Now this is one of those stanzas that, you know, the first like
- 44:47five six lines or whatever it is is the council to load fafnir,
- 44:51you know, heed my words, heed them.
- 44:53Well learn it it will end you it will Bode you.
- 44:56Well if you listen it will serve you well if you follow the steps
- 44:59and that's not. So I'm going to kind of skip
- 45:02past those parts because each translation reads basically the
- 45:05same way with just a few variations you know instead of
- 45:09like here thou it might be here me or counsel thee or read the
- 45:16or whatever. So the Hollander translation
- 45:18after that, you know, admonition to whoever this load fafnir
- 45:24character is Odin is speaking in these stanzas.
- 45:27So in the hall under translation.
- 45:29After that intro, it reads is a good man seek thou to gain as
- 45:34thy friend and learn to make thyself loved All right, the
- 45:43forget his first name of Terry the Terry translation rejoice
- 45:49and talk with a man, you respect and learn healing spells, all
- 45:53your life. Or an inhaler is with a good
- 45:57man. It is good to talk.
- 45:59Make him your best friend, but waste no words on a witless oaf
- 46:04nor sit with a senseless tape. And then the other see, we got
- 46:11Thorpe and Bellows. So the Thorpe is a good man
- 46:15attracted easy and pleasant Converse and salutary speech
- 46:21learn while thou lovest that was the Benjamin Thorpe translation.
- 46:28The Bellows translation reads A Good Man.
- 46:29Find to hold in friendship and give heed to his healing charms.
- 46:37The Oliver Bray translation might as well just run with that
- 46:39one as well. In sweet Converse call the
- 46:43righteous to thy side, learn a song while that live assist.
- 46:49And then the Jackson Crawford translation is.
- 46:54Get a good man to join you in joyful, talk and learning and
- 46:58learn a healing spell, while you live.
- 47:04You know. So I like this one and I think
- 47:06it's a good one to be to come across.
- 47:11It fits well for the times that come after you will for for me
- 47:16specifically and maybe others as well, in case you've been
- 47:20spending time with your loved ones. celebrating, as you may,
- 47:27but I think it's great because, you know, some people nowadays,
- 47:30especially with social media, people tend to be more concerned
- 47:36with, you know, their their quantity of friends as opposed
- 47:39to Quality and I believe I've done a podcast episode about
- 47:42something like this before, but it seems to be a recurring theme
- 47:45that it's, you know, it's not about how many friends you have
- 47:48Zahn a bit quote friends, you have Your social media followers
- 47:52or subscribers your listeners. Your how many likes you have on
- 47:58a post? How many retweets you have on a
- 48:01tweet or whatever the heck, you know, it's not about the
- 48:04quantity. It's about the quality of life
- 48:06is not a race of seeing how many humans we can collect, you know?
- 48:13Yes, it helps. We're for things like this
- 48:14because we live in a society, we live in, we live in a society,
- 48:18we live in a day and age. So much about what things are
- 48:22being done is to get into, you know, into popularity.
- 48:30I'm going to take a quick breather.
- 48:31I have to take a quick breather on this.
- 48:32I'll be right back. Don't go anywhere.
- 48:43All right folks, sorry about that brief Interruption.
- 48:46I was receiving an inbound call from the wife so you know how
- 48:50that goes, whenever she calls. It's never know what's going to
- 48:53happen and always want to make sure that I'm taking time for my
- 48:56lovely wife. So getting back to the the
- 48:59stanza. You know, that we just listened
- 49:00to or that I just read quality over quantity.
- 49:05It's not about how many people we collect but but in the
- 49:08today's day and age as I said before it, we live in a society
- 49:12that a Lot of what people do for whether it be a hobby or whether
- 49:18it be some sort of residual income or whether it be their
- 49:21livelihood is based on social-media followings, you
- 49:26know, and how many people you get?
- 49:28So you get this, you know, sometimes I think people can get
- 49:30a false sense of The the type of people, the quality people had
- 49:37to get based off of the numbers of subscribers listeners,
- 49:45whatever. Like yeah.
- 49:46Oh, that's neat. And all that school in it and it
- 49:49may it has its place and, you know, a business setting or in a
- 49:53business context or in a you know in certain contexts it has
- 49:58its place for sure but it never should replace The you know good
- 50:06friends good human context that we can have by actual
- 50:10interactions. It's not it's it shouldn't be
- 50:13the gauge that we measure our quality against.
- 50:18You know what I mean. People who truly care and will
- 50:21be there for you. Like the reason why I feel like
- 50:24the stanza hit so well from for me specifically around this time
- 50:27is because you'll write and I got just got done talking about
- 50:32Small event for us, you know, very small event, nearest and
- 50:36dearest, and that's how I like it.
- 50:38And that's how we like it. That's the way we operate right
- 50:41now. We don't want a big huge thing
- 50:43going on and it feels better when we've got, you know, in
- 50:48small numbers and the quality is there.
- 50:50No, if numbers increase and more people become a part of it.
- 50:53It's because they have proven themselves to be good types of
- 50:57people to tie are weird with, and to share our lives with
- 51:01because those good types of People and good friends are hard
- 51:05to come by and I feel like cherishing.
- 51:08Those relationships and nurturing those friendships and
- 51:12making sure that the grass doesn't grow too high, between
- 51:15the, you know, the roads between us that we communicate often
- 51:19that we share in good speech and learn healing spells.
- 51:22And we learn all these wonderful things, too that they can learn
- 51:26from us. And we can learn from them what
- 51:30by spending actual time with them.
- 51:32Not giving up those quality things in those quality times
- 51:39for other seemingly. You know, well, I can't spend
- 51:45time with you tonight because I gotta, you know, I got to record
- 51:49this video. I got to put this video out or
- 51:52if it's not, you know, if it's like I said, if it's not your
- 51:54livelihood, if it's not your If it's not winning your bread you
- 51:59know I'm saying if it's not bringing you the meat on your
- 52:02table and providing for your family.
- 52:03Like if that's a feature job that's one thing that's your
- 52:06career if that's thing that provides and it's one thing you
- 52:10have an obligation to your family to do that sort of thing
- 52:13would be like going to any other job but if it's you know Hobbies
- 52:19like just now for instance you know I'm reading stanzas I'm
- 52:22talking about things to the listeners across all the world
- 52:26but my wife calls and guess what happens?
- 52:27I What I'm doing. I pause the podcast and I come
- 52:30back and this is real time. So you see and you understand
- 52:34that what I say I do so I try to be that way as much as I
- 52:41possibly can. I I am not the type of person
- 52:43who would feel good about saying one thing and then Define what I
- 52:50say and doing another thing, you know, going against what I say,
- 52:55Never been like that. I think it's a horrible way to
- 52:58be leaders and great people lead, by example, and they do
- 53:03things and then they don't have to tell people what to do.
- 53:06They don't have to say, go do this, go do that because they do
- 53:09it themselves and people follow, by example, people.
- 53:13Learn, by example, I feel as well and I'm by no means saying
- 53:16that you guys should follow me or whatever.
