New semi-autonomous Bedouin state takes root in Sinai
Egypt has allowed the formation of a semi-state in the Sina called the Arab Tribes Union. This new paramilitary umbrella group is led by a prominent Sinai militia leader and businessman Ibrahim Al-Organi. It brought together more than 30 Bedouin tribes from the Sinai and is supported by the military since they are also seen as a crucial ally fighting against terrorism and also as guardians of the Egyptian border with Gaza. KAN’s chief correspondent for Arab affairs Roi Kais says it indicates the weakness of the Sisi government in Egypt. (photo: facebook/alorgani)
