Latest / Guy Football Focus with Guy Haberman / Guest RHETT LEWIS on the 49ers Top Draft Targets + Joey Bosa Price, Aiyuk Truth
Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_02]: What's up guys, guy here?
- 0:01[SPEAKER_02]: It is Thursday afternoon.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_02]: First, real day of March madness.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_02]: I did a YouTube video on Saturday, last Saturday, but did not make it a podcast.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_02]: So I did want to tell you briefly what I said there and then Rhett Lewis from NFL Network, who was great.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_02]: talking about first round guys you really like coming out of the combine potential Niners Pixie and the first round players who really likes in general So that's coming up producer Connor will join us at the back in with a couple questions follow-ups as well But I'm really excellent insight from Rhett as expected.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_02]: He's a really good buddy of mine.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_02]: He's really sharp
- 0:35[SPEAKER_02]: One thing I said two things, uh, Joey Bosa has not signed anywhere as of this, and I didn't want to just, the audience on the YouTube and the podcast or something, a lot of you are different.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_02]: And I didn't want to say something here that I said on YouTube on Saturday, which is that from what I'd heard, the right number for Joey Bosa, this is not from the Ninersang, this is somebody with another team said, they thought the number for Joey Bosa was like, seven, eight million for that price, you get in a good player,
- 1:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think when you go back and look and I did this at length on the YouTube video at Joey last year, the feeling is, you know, 25 snaps is probably the right number, 40 snaps is not.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_02]: When you go back and look at last year,
- 1:16[SPEAKER_02]: he wore down.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_02]: He was not as productive in the second half back into the year as he was early in the year and the first half of the year.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_02]: So that is why he's not getting the money he got last year from Buffalo, that $12 million range, $12-13 million range.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's the target.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: If you're looking at it from a 90's perspective and they get you we both so a lot of people be fired up.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_02]: I would be excited about it, but it's not going to be at 12.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_02]: I think people feel
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: You're talking about a specialty past rusher, not a 40, not a 50 snap guy for sure.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_02]: Not a 40 snap guy.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_02]: You want it to be a 22 snap guy and that just means he becomes a part of a solution.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: He is not in and of himself, the solution.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: The other thing I want to talk about before read is, did you see the report that the Niners are holding out for a 7th round pick for Brandon Iyuk came from me, apparently?
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: That's not what I said.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_02]: They got misconstrued on Saturday.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_02]: You got aggregated that I said that the Niners are holding Brandon and I used to get a seventh round pick.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_02]: It just became like fact, which is not what I said on Saturday on YouTube.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: And someone was like, are you going to correct it?
- 2:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, no, it's Saturday and I'm busy.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: That's, it's not my problem that somebody, you know, no, I'm not.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_02]: But.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: Um, what I said was that the Niners have a history of holding on until it's clear there is no value.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: And right now it's not clear that there is no value.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_02]: I use the Jimmy Grappelow example a few months ago and I used it again on Saturday.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_02]: They held on to Jimmy when people thought they should just cut bait with Grappelow and the madness and he turned out to be valuable to them.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: And then, middle of last week, shefter said, don't expect them to just cut them when for agency starts.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, they didn't.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_02]: So I was texting around with people, and somebody with another team asked me, do you think they'd take a seventh round pick for?
- 3:14[SPEAKER_02]: So what I said was, there are people, there are all you need as two teams, and there are people out there wondering what the value from Brad and I, you kids.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_02]: And so the Niners are wondering, and the Niners are gonna try and get anything.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_02]: I said basically anything is something.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: Even if it's a seventh round pick, that GMs look at seventh round or it's differently than you and I do.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: In that you and I start doing something else on Sunday, the laundry, but over the last day of the draft, the seventh round.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so anyway, that's what I said.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't say the Niners are holding until they get a seven-thrombic.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_02]: That's not what I said.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: I went back and watched the video like, did I say this wrong?
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: Did I miss lead people?
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: The answer was no.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: The answer was no, I did not, and there you go.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, go ahead and spread that.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's get on to Rhett Lewis.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_02]: I think it really like it.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_02]: This is funny.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: Here we go.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: This is Brett Lewis from the NFL Network.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: He was just at the NFL combine today.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to talk about players at the end of the first round that he likes because I am getting too excited about Kenyan City getting mocked twice in three mocks by Dale Jeremiah to the 49ers at a someone who has seen Kenyan City many times in person.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_02]: uh... i don't see how he's gonna last at the end of the first round uh... retinue issue my recognized from his work at NFL network uh... he also uh... worked uh... he and i worked together last two years of the big tenet work ret is without a doubt one of the most talented most well-rounded smartest NFL people there is if you watch them enough on that work you may not realize he's a host a lot of times on sundays and thursday but he could very well be an analyst he played football in indiana and uh...
- 4:57[SPEAKER_02]: We both, you know, he is because of Rhett and other circumstances, I love Indiana football.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my man.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: Big Indiana football fan.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_02]: And Rhett has an Indiana football podcast called Big Red Girl.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: Great name.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: Great name, great name, great name, great name, great name, great name, great call, great call.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: Rhett, great name, great name.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I appreciate you saying that.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_02]: You have to give me that compliment.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: He's the lead, pressure off the edge, and it's intercepted.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: The edge of a pond roll out the big red carpet, touchdown, and the end of.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: Let's start with.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_02]: You were just the combine.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_02]: Am I right?
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: Am I right to want Kenyan Sadik for the 49ers?
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: And am I right that there's no chance he lasts till 27 or could he?
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: Could he?
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: Oh man.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I don't think it's going to happen, but I think you're right to want him.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think as my pal Daniel Jeremiah has said, and his last two mock drafts, which I knew you've seen, like this would be a home run fit, in terms of just one of the most exciting tools that Kyle Shanahan would have at his disposal in his offense.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: And, and I think, look, you're, obviously, you've got George Kittle coming off the injury.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know, hope you're ready for week one there.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: Don't know if that's the case or not.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll, we'll, we'll kind of see how that, that all falls.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: The killies rehabs are tricky.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: At times, and even when you do come back, how, you know, are you 100% to where you want to be from before the injury?
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I think there's some stuff there, and I think there is some
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know, some similarities, you're, you're not going to get the dog of a blocker that kiddo is in sedique, but sedique will put his face in the fan.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like he is not, not afraid to do that.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like he's more of like an H-back slot type of receipt, type of tight end, whereas kiddo, you know, can survive on the end of the line of scrimmage there.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, next to a tackle, I don't know if that's where, where sedique is going to live.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: But I just think there's so much you can do with them and now sometimes we get wrapped up and there's so much we can do with them and we lose sight of the fact that let's just let them go be great doing something.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, instead of trying to do everything.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: That is that is something that we kind of fall victim to in the draft process at times, especially on the defensive side of the wall with guys, but sedic fits into that mold.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I just don't know that he is going to be there, man.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like I go back and, and I was looking at it.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Rams could certainly be a team that could be in the Canyon City market at 13.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, I think the Baltimore Ravens just lost Isaiah likely.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like they could go get him at 14 to pair with Mark and who feels like a Raven.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know how many years Andrews even has left.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: So you're thinking about that, you know, as a possibility, you know, I just think there's there's going to be teams down there.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like shoot the Carolina Panthers, you know, would want to find another weapon for Brighton.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: I, there's so many teams that could go after a player like Sidique, shoot the Ellie Chargers with the Chargers let him go at 22.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I don't know.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_02]: I made a 20, I'd be interested.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'd be interested in moving up at 22.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think the box, you know, he's been mocked to the box a lot.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: I got this from a buddy with an NFL team.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: He said, I wouldn't be surprised if he's there, but it's not impossible, draft is weird.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_02]: Not an elite first round, but there's some depth and volume.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_02]: I could see him going to the teens early 20s.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_02]: Can I imagine a good team around there is just going to want the best player on the board?
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: And if they don't want to trade down, he said, I'll say this looking back.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_02]: Kyle Pitz had hired grades for us, but similar.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: Now, Kyle Pitz went four, right?
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, he's not going that high.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_02]: But there's just his football characters.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_02]: Elite game is well-rounded.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_02]: Better blocker than Pitz coming out.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_02]: complain with the wife, flex him out, why it is pretty unique would be a problem in 12 person out with him in George, L.O.L.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_02]: Collin, and then he's like, Collin would probably run some bleep and screens for him and put him in all kinds of weird spots.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_02]: I would just have let us in, inherently, understand.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like the idea, like, I'm not, I don't need to replace George Kittle.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like that can't be this, if the standard is, let's find a guy who's with a Hall of Famer.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: blocker and like, let's just, just find somebody sweet and he's kind of sweet, but anyway.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: So look, as far as City goes, I see the lore.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: I see the, I see the, the creativity there.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I don't necessarily seem getting there.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: But if he does great.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but I think at the home or some, it's the right exactly.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I think there are some options to dig into there, um, you know, where the, where the 49ers are coming off at 27, um, you know, this is right around the area where they found Ricky Pierce all a year ago, or now two years ago now.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know that a lot of us had Pearson mocked in the first round at that time and that is kind of a tricky area like 25 to 32 you start seeing names that we were talking about in the first 15 picks of the second round make their way into the back seven picks of the first round and that's why these are the hardest ones to predict that the best teams.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: with arguably the fewest needs.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: Now, obviously, you got Kansas City in there at 29 in Miami at 30, obviously as a result of trade.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: So there's, you know, you got to throw some variables in there.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: But these are good teams who are built to win, who are looking for that next piece to help them do so.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I think the 49er certainly fit in that mold.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be curious to see how
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: last year's run on defensive players with the first five picks of the draft, kind of factor into some of the thinking here.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, did you get enough out of Alfred Collins to note, you know, I was like, oh, William's coming back.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like, do you feel good about that?
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: Or do you feel like, shoot, maybe we kind of need to swing again there.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Don't be afraid, you know, to do that.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: So, I think there's a number of ways if you want to get into some of those guys, we can certainly
- 10:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I want to do that.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_02]: Let's do it in one second.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: The only other thing I'll say is I have heard, I've been, you know, you're around a lot of NFL information and you text with people like so you I know you hear a lot of stuff you go to a lot of camps.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_02]: I've heard this is a very tradable back at the first round.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_02]: Now it's always the case that
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: someone who's looking to get out, yeah, but I think it's interesting that you brought up the Pierce all because they were trying to trade out.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: And no one wanted to trade up.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_02]: And so they just stayed there and drafted Ricky Pierce all.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: And that was after Xavier worthy, right?
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: That was after Xavier worthy because the chiefs traded up with the bills to get.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: So anyway.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, who do you you're at the combine?
- 11:13[SPEAKER_02]: Who do you who and I do think like you look at these lists of okay, you need defensive tackle pass rush or you need offensive tackle you need I think I think they could Refresh an up safety.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I would not be afraid of corner I think the Niners
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: have more spots they could go than like a needs list would suggest.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a lot of places they could stand to improve.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: They want to go guard if they want to go center.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_02]: If they want to go another tight end, if they want to go receiver, they want to go edge russia.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: If they want to go linebacker, another broad and gray green law, Fred Warner's coming off of injury, but it'll be healthy, but triggering the playday games last year.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: If they want to go corner,
- 11:51[SPEAKER_02]: Kyle Shannon was screaming it right out of green on the sideline.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_02]: If they want to go safety, like, I think they could go a lot of directions.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, you know, it gives you a lot of options.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: What do you think?
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, look, I think, you know, just to hit on a couple of things you mentioned there, center is definitely a position where, you know, like, brindell is what he is.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think you know what he is now.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think, you know, you still want to kind of continue to feed that group on the interior there for sure.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be surprised.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think Connor Lewis probably the best guy.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: I tend to favor Logan Jones from Iowa.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I know you've obviously, in our work together, a big tenet work you've followed the Iowa pipeline.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: He and Jennings Dunker are really fun players.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: They've got three guys that are going to draft it off that offensive line this year as well.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Logan Jones is a really, really good center.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's a smaller guy in terms of height, but man, he built like a refrigerator.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a two-time solo on beef days, hey, Bill, toss champion, which I would like to see.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then he gave that title, and that distinction to Jenny Stunker, who then wanted the next two years.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, kind of interestingly enough, like I had him as a potential target of the Raiders, who then signed.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: Tyler Lindrebaum, former teammate, and you might remember the story, Lindrebaum, Logan Jones began his career as a defensive tackle at Iowa, and was getting his butt kicked by Tyler Lindrebaum, his entire first year in Iowa City, and then when Lindrebaum left to go to the league, Logan Jones moved over to the offensive side and the ball has been a starting center at Iowa ever since.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: Which is just kind of cool.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: And that could be a target, you know, in today to wish maybe even day three, depending on when that run really starts for those centers.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: So something to think about there.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: But as for the first round, I think you're going to start talking about these guards really kind of becoming players that are going to find their way into the back end of the first and the guy that rings.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: The most bells for me is Chase Pesantas from Texas A&M.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think as the offensive line coaches have gotten more involved in the process, they are falling in love with this guy.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: Talking about bunch of coaches, oh line coaches at the combine, like this is a dude that is technically fundamentally sound, like the guy that is plug and play, he's your 10-year starter, he's probably gonna make five to six pro bowls, like he's just a solid solid, you know, probably,
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: you know, top 10 guard in the league type of player as you go forward throughout his career.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's a player that you could look at at 27.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you get lucky and some of the tackles are still there at 27 remember I was trying to get the the Niners to take Josh Simmons last year.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: I was trying to get the Niners to take Josh Simmons.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: He turned out to be a hell of a player.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm glad you said, Rhett mocked you mocked Josh Simmons to the Niners at 12 last year.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: 11.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, whatever ended up being and I think if the look at the chiefs had taken them there and he ends up as their day one starter left tackle they'd been just fine with that ended up taking him You know all the way at the back end of the first round and he still ends up being there they're you know they're starting day one left tackle now there you go right there 27 caten proctor
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think you can be talking about, I think you be talking about Proctor as a potential Trent Williams replacement down the road.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he gives you some reps as a swing tackle, but he's been a left tackle.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's pretty much his entire career there at Alabama.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's one to consider there.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: 27 if he's still there.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: I know everybody DJ had a mocked, I think, to the Eagles.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: And again, same kind of situation where it's like, okay, maybe we put, we,
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: kick him over to the right side to eventually take over for Lane Johnson.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: But I think Kaden Proctor is a guy that could find his way there at 27, but Monroe Freeling, Blake Miller from Clemson, the Utah Cats.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think all that stuff is gone by the time the Niners are on the board.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think the most likely guy to be there is
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: Kate and Proctor.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: So, okay.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of where I see on the offensive line side.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how many of those guards that I was talking about.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like, pregnant, armage, read Adams, keywood, Rutledge, maybe there from Georgia Tech when the Niners come back on at the bottom of the second round, which could be a fun one there, just a dominating run blocker.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: what would you what would you say to a like top?
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: What would you say to a running back at the back end of the first round?
- 16:31[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't lie into it.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_02]: So convince me.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to be.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's like ninth on the needs.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_02]: But they do need one.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and look, give me your my love will be long gone.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know that jittering price or Mike Washington are first round running backs.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they are.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: But again, things get kind of haired.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: Kings get kind of crazy down there and
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: With the workload that CMC gets and some of the availability issues that they've had there, I would be I'd be curious, but I think again, that's more of a day to situation.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: There for the 49ers to join the Coleman day, too.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: On a Coleman, yeah, depends on how they feel about Garendo and in that whole thing.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: Not great.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: So, like, yeah, I mean Jordan James, I know it was a guy last year, right?
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: So give me this guy.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: Jay Nott.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: Give me Jay Nott.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: What do you have about 12 carries this year?
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: uh... twenty one uh... twenty one carries what the hell happened one of the biggest mysteries of the transfer portal that we've ever seen like it was the biggest coup that they got oh it from cal they got jade not to owe you and he didn't touch the football catches is the one you know the guy that transferred that i thought when he went i thought jermie bernard i did not think would raise the stock
- 17:52[SPEAKER_02]: the receiver at Alabama.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, he has.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: But he has it.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's a second-round pick to me.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so yeah, like other players again, like other positions, say.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think you're probably still looking at the defensive or as the offensive side of the ball, but like if you get into the defensive side of the ball, I think a player like a manual McNeil Warren, the safety from Toledo, if he is still there at 27, is one of those kind of ex-factor playmaker like terminators in the back end.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's like a Durwin James light type of player.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I think if you're looking to show up the safety position there a little bit and he's there 27, I think that gets some serious consideration there.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's got a lead speed, he's got a big frame Toledo had some freaking dogs on their team on the defensive side of the ball last couple of years.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: So, I mean, Colton Hood, you know, from Kansas City, enough in Kansas City, but my DJ had a mock to Kansas City, but like from Tennessee, we saw him at the senior bowl.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's a good player.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, again, I think any of those names are names to consider at the back end of the first round, but could easily see some of those slipping into the top of the second as well.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm surprised, and maybe I shouldn't be, there seems to be consensus on Dylan Thaneman.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think he was as productive as I expected him to be hit the big pick at the end of the Penn State game.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_02]: They love him.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_02]: But I didn't.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I...
- 19:28[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: He needs to be to me.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: He needs, like, find, if you're a team that runs a system that Ryan Walters kind of ran where you had Dylan Thineman park 25 yards deep in the, you know, 25 yards off the line of scrimmage is a post safety, allowing him to count.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: That's a safety point.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_02]: The life people who aren't watching and are listening to this, right?
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: We get a lot of people don't maybe don't watch comfortable.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and Ryan Walters was a defense coordinator at Illinois then went to Purdue and was the head coach at Purdue during Thineman's first couple years in college football and Thineman transferred to Oregon.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: But man, that's where he's at his best.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: I did not think he was at his best really close to the line of scrimmage, which was kind of where Oregon played him in that three safety kind of role, that middle safety, that kind of become really popular in college football over the last couple of years.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, I don't think the league uses that position that way as much.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I think he probably gets back to being a really productive ballhocking kind of safety in the league.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: But I think he's gone by 27.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I don't know what position you wanted to go to next, but I took us over to edge because it's uh, yeah, it's a perennial need for the Niners and uh, you know, if you want a game changing edge, the place to not be is 27.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_02]: So, I mean, what's your shoulder fork?
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, is an interesting one.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of reminds me a little bit.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: Um, just because he's built it with like a massive frame like he already reminds me a little bit of Alfred Morris.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's he's six foot six and two hundred and ninety pounds.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: Alfred Collins, Alfred Collins.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not Alfred Morris.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: But I, you know, Shanahan would take Alfred Morris.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sure.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Shanahan system was kind of Alfred Morris as I recall.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: The running back.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, like there's just, there's a lot of similarities there with my, my cow Williams is another huge dude, right?
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I, I think you've got guys there, it's like, all right, but do you love them?
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: Because you can't be afraid to swing again if, yeah, if it's not working out.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: So, did you not really?
- 21:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: But you don't really.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: Zion, young would be another one down there at 40, sorry, 65 or 62.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he's like, I think the best ball is ahead of him, I think he is a really intriguing player kind of like young and his football life a little bit, so I think you get him around Chris Kassurik, a defensive line coach there with 49ers.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: You might see some serious development with his skill set.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_00]: I could see that dude kind of taking off in that 49er system.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's right.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: Well, this myth, Missouri.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, correct.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: So I, yeah, like TJ Parker's going to be gone.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: Cash is how it might be gone.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think you're you're kind of in the.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: Gave back, this is an interesting one for Milanoi, a guy that we've seen a couple of times, but he's a day-to-player.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so, okay, that's great.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: Is there anybody else we didn't, is there like a, how about this?
- 22:42[SPEAKER_02]: A guy that I didn't prep you for this, but like not a end of the, just a guy that Rhett is like, I know you had Omar Cooper Jr, the receiver from Indiana.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: On your podcast here today, I saw him mock to the Niners and one of the 900 mocks I've read, yeah, he had the great for those of you, only saw like if you only watch two cards football games this year.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_02]: They probably were both Indiana, yeah, and one of whom it was Penn State Indiana, where he had the toe tattoo at the back of the engine, which is, I mean, I think we would deep grab a stretch of everything.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: Everything.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: OK. Yeah.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I would give some consideration on day two to another, another who's your anologist, Serrat.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: But he's like, but yeah, my Kevin's now if you're the nine.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's true, that's true.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: But for what a year?
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, okay, keep going.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: No, let me interrupt, so I don't know if that's fine.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I can just keep going down the list of Hoosiers, if you want.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they did have the best team in the country and I asked you, like, you want to go get Aiden Fisher, a little instinctive linebacker on day three to, you know, be a team's dude for Michael.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_02]: Is Michael Kamera out?
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'll see you back in the college.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's in this, he's in this draft.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_00]: K-Lon Black.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, if you want to talk about a running back on day three, I think you could do a lot worse than that.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: Um, uh, an absolute stud.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: No, but I think there's, um, there's a number of guys that, uh, I mean, you know, the guy that I, I think, um, I think 49ers fans would love and I've probably seen a little bit being on the West Coast as Bryce Betcher for Morgan.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: on the linebacker with baseball background.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_00]: Again, day two player, but I mean, this is the dude who decleted his own teammate in warmups at the senior ball.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: No way.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like, half-speed warmups.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's so juiced up.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: He absolutely decletes a running backward by the way, just shown up that morning for the game.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: He hadn't practiced all week.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: The guy's like, what?
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: What the heck?
- 24:39[UNKNOWN]: No.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: They got in a fight.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: They got a fight?
- 24:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I love this guy.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, you and I both, they were at Oregon a lot, they loved it.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: What I like about this one is that he's an instinctual player.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I think the matters, you know, it's so much success with guys who are
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: instinctual, dry green law, instinctual.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_02]: And it felt like the last few years of young linebackers, they've had guys with trades that don't necessarily play instinctually.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_02]: This guy want a gold glove, a college gold glove in center field two years ago at Oregon, right?
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it's still young in his football life.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_02]: Is he?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's just like, you know, he's 23 points.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_02]: He's 24 years old.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: He has the only prime, he only fully committed a football a year ago.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's interesting.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think there's more to be like he even go through spring ball in some of those years at Oregon.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_00]: So like I think there's there's more to his story out there is development arc.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Lewis is an absolute stud right there 51 it'sburg.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean he is.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: Juan Bucca.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how the, I don't know how the nine or feel about frame at that position.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: But he's kind of been talked about as like a, you know, a guy that we get enamored with that I was talking about the top of the show here like he's, you know, he could be a little bit of a hybrid for you.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: But again, like how do you do that?
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: Where do you do that?
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: What's it about the best way to do that?
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_00]: So those are a couple of guys.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean it's a lot of guys it's a lot of guys, but then you guys like that's just throw some you know what at the wall and see what sticks no it's just I like the Angela ponds.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: I've seen mocked a few times for them to another Indiana guy.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_02]: The yeah, the big red carpet without the Angela pot.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: There was a lot of stuff there would be no big red carpet You know, there would be no substact following there would be no cult substact following I should say yeah
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: would insert the clip here, Connor.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_00]: Please, please.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, it's the Connor, Connor, do you Connor as a question?
- 26:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, hopefully his employer is not paying attention today, but it's third, you're employer doesn't think anybody's taking on the second state of the NCAA.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_02]: Turn it.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I was going to let Connor ask.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_02]: Let's let's read just yes.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_02]: That's kind of a question, but read to get sorry Connor.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, good.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, where do you.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: Where do you say the depth of this draft is right, you know, there's a couple position groups.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's always a good question.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: I do think this is a line of scrimmage type of draft on the defensive side of the ball.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think, again, edge rusher's, the super impact dudes, Arville, Resteva, Bailey, you're gone on the top 10, Ruben, Bay, and a key mess of Doria you're gone on the top 20, top 15, but I think there are players that,
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: that you can find as I was talking about Zion young you may be able to find either back into the first round 27 for the Niners or you find those guys into the second round.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think you're going to find impact players along the defensive front into the second round.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: Even in the the Detackle group I think you'll see a bunch of those dudes come off you know early in the second round like Lee Hunter from Texas Tech.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think it could be a super impactful player.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen him mocked a little bit in the first round too.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I think
- 28:02[SPEAKER_00]: line of scrimmage.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: This is a really fun one.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: And again, like it's, it may not be top end type heavy in terms of talent at the receiver spot, but again, I think you're going to find big time contributors into the second and third round in this trap too.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: So I would give you two positions there.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: The Kaden Proctor to the Niners is interesting because the Niners have been putting off the Trent Williams left tackle like it's a, like it's a college.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: There's no gear to play an issue, right?
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: Say that again.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: There's no guarantees playing this here, right?
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: No, not as of now.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think he will.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he usually works itself out.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: It has for the last couple of years, but man, they play with fire every year, it feels like.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: But Proctor is six foot seven, 360 pounds catching screen passes against Georgia.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: So there's not least an athleticism there.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: But maybe does he play guard, then kick out because he wanted those, but could be, that's an interesting one.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: That could be a very interesting, you know, snipe at the end of round one.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_00]: Left guard right now,
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: move into the the center spot or excuse me into the left tackles spot or the right tackles spot like maybe he could do both maybe he could swing and the kibits needs a you know a couple weeks here or there he moves I mean it could be a utility player for you.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_02]: I love that idea.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like a Connor, break any ideas, baby.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: I guess that's what she was on it.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: Sadik.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: So you guys talked about Sadik from Oregon.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: If he's there, it's a no-brainer, tires take him, if you're the GM, or, I mean, is that just the pick if he falls, man?
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: I would say like unless something crazy, like look, if Sadik's there at 27, I think something is gonna happen in the first 25 picks that maybe didn't go according to the majority of draft Twitter plans.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe one of the elite tackles is there, I mean like unless something, you know, somebody like has a gosh, you know, like a Philadelphia Eagles type drop, right, you know, like where they just land one of the best players in the draft because something happens in the week before, you know, and like you can't you're just that player staring you in the face and like.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_00]: This guy's a top 10 talent for some reason, you know, whatever, but we're comfortable with it.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: Bam, we nab him up there.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like maybe room and bay and short arms or something like cause everybody some serious doubt and concealer down's knee.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sure.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like we've seen crazy things happen like that.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think then you're like, okay, it's a deep ore guy who we had gone in the top eight picks.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to take the guy that's gone.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: Even if he only gives us a contract.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like that's a, that's what drives me kind of nuts sometimes just like, well, you know, like long term, like, well, how many coaches are in their own, they're in the same spot for more than five years.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: That go get a player is going to give you a damn one good contract and then let's hope we get more, you know, so that's, I mean, how many think about this, how many Niners first rounders have gotten to the second contract, Ricky Pierce all will see.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_00]: They got an option decision coming up on him in a year or so.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, which at this point, I would say like, you're right now this moment.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_02]: You wouldn't pick it up if it was right now, right now.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: Are you technically, technically, technically, I was going to say that.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you, quite a bit.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_02]: Six games.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_02]: McLenshee didn't.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: Ruben Foster didn't now.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going really far back here.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: Trains didn't know.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: No, no.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: So Thomas didn't.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, but like, Maglinti's the perfect example of, but was it a bad pick?
- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you gave you good ears.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe in hindsight, Colton Miller would have been the guy, but you had a starter right tackle for five years.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_01]: So, okay.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: Top 10 pick should probably get second contract.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: Probably should.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: No question.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: No question.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely should.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_02]: But consistently don't.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_02]: So like there is a minute, this is not like zero sum, right?
- 31:54[SPEAKER_02]: There's a middle.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, okay, you have a tip on Casey conception before that you go drops the ball a little bit.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you said they don't know that on my guy.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: Texas and I'm interested in talented super cool kid to, um,
- 32:15[SPEAKER_00]: the drops worried me a little bit, but I think he's he's he's he's he's a little bit of a like skiing player in that you want to get the ball in his hands kind of quickly like I don't know that he's see I don't I'm kind of tired of like the yeah there's someone's gonna go make a play yeah like no he should make a play but you got to get the ball in his hands
- 32:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you have to scheme it.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_02]: I just, somebody just be fast and be open or be strong and be open.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_02]: Can we do that?
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's three texts in the room.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's three.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Evans, Kirk, and is that too many Texas A&M receivers out there?
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, probably.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: You probably reach her a little bit there.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: Probably somewhere.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: There is a little one there.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_02]: I guess John, get Johnny football in here.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: Shannon.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: They've done it before.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: You're a busy man.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's a great pleasure.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_02]: You bro.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's all.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_02]: Producer Connor.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for having me appreciate it.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: Nice to meet you.
