SPEAKER_00: The piece is titled An Empowered Profession, AI and the Future of Accountancy, and it makes a compelling argument.
• 3:40
SPEAKER_00: AI is not the end of the accountancy profession, far from it.
• 3:45
SPEAKER_00: For those who embrace it and adapt to it, AI represents an enormous opportunity.
• 3:50
SPEAKER_00: Here is the core of the argument.
• 3:52
SPEAKER_00: As AI takes on more of the routine and rules-based tasks, the kind of work that has historically taken up significant time, what becomes more valuable is precisely what chartered accountants are known for professional judgment, ethics and governance, critical thinking, and above all, trust.
• 4:14
SPEAKER_00: The article draws on insights from Chartered Accountants Ireland, which has fundamentally overhauled its training syllabus in response to this shift.
• 4:23
SPEAKER_00: AI, data analytics, blockchain, and other digital technologies are now integrated into how trainee accountants are educated.
• 4:32
SPEAKER_00: And that process of evolution began a decade ago.
• 4:36
SPEAKER_00: It has been considered and consistent, not reactive.
• 4:41
SPEAKER_00: The skills that will define the most effective chartered accountants in the years ahead are described as human and transversal.
• 4:48
SPEAKER_00: Learning how to learn, systems thinking, problem solving, and critical thinking.
• 4:55
SPEAKER_00: These are not skills that AI replaces.
• 4:58
SPEAKER_00: They are the skills that allow professionals to work alongside AI effectively and to serve as trusted intermediaries between the technology and the people who rely on it.
• 5:09
SPEAKER_00: That framing, chartered accountants as trusted interlocutors in an AI economy, is a compelling one, and it reinforces something we have always believed: that trust is not just a professional value, it is a competitive advantage, and it is harder to earn than ever.
• 5:27
