- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome into JAG's am our twelfth practice day. We're getting
- 0:20Speaker 1: things ready, We're getting things geared up for the first
- 0:23Speaker 1: preseason game of the year. We don't know who'll be
- 0:24Speaker 1: playing this yet, but I, for one, I'm very excited
- 0:27Speaker 1: to see some real football. Ky Nannie Stevens here, Brian Sexton,
- 0:29Speaker 1: John Oser with me. We are live outside at Jaguars'
- 0:32Speaker 1: training camp from the Miller Electric Center. Either I'm dead
- 0:35Speaker 1: inside or it's gotten a little bit cooler.
- 0:37Speaker 2: It's not deadly hot. It couldn't just be in my
- 0:40Speaker 2: I don't know what day does anymore because I am
- 0:43Speaker 2: dead inside.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Okay, so when they opened the door, there was a
- 0:46Speaker 3: wall of humidity that hit us.
- 0:48Speaker 4: But it doesn't feel so bad right now.
- 0:49Speaker 1: I'm being optimistic. Okay, there's not one hundreds, So it's
- 0:52Speaker 1: a win. Is describing training camp in Jacksonville, Florida.
- 0:55Speaker 4: This is a win.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Absolutely, we've had We're kind of a dog days of
- 1:00Speaker 1: it now, but we got a preseason game to talk about,
- 1:02Speaker 1: so that's exciting. And also I feel like we've seen
- 1:04Speaker 1: some progress in certain areas I want to talk about.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Let's start out with big thing Number one, which is
- 1:08Speaker 1: in command Trevor Lawrence looked great yesterday. We saw him
- 1:11Speaker 1: in the scrimmage operating really well with this new offense,
- 1:14Speaker 1: and we've talked about how he feels more comfortable out there.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Grant you.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Dinsky talked to us yesterday and he talked a little
- 1:20Speaker 1: bit about giving Trevor leniency, specifically if he makes a
- 1:23Speaker 1: mistake throws an interception to kind of move on from that.
- 1:27Speaker 5: It's the same mindset and approach with every snap, but
- 1:31Speaker 5: giving them the comfort and confidence to move on from
- 1:34Speaker 5: a throw like that, you know, to progress differently and
- 1:36Speaker 5: to learn from that mistake. I think with reps and
- 1:38Speaker 5: times he sees it, he recognizes the mistake and he'll improve.
- 1:43Speaker 1: That's in reference to interceptions through in the scrimmage on Friday,
- 1:46Speaker 1: Brian nothing gets the past.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Foe Stulf.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I don't think anybody was particularly hard on Trevor, but
- 1:50Speaker 1: I feel like they've given him an ownership in this
- 1:53Speaker 1: offense to where his demeanor is a bit different and
- 1:56Speaker 1: we've seen his command of the offense.
- 1:58Speaker 4: It's his now, it is And the word that I
- 2:00Speaker 4: want to use with him is resilience.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Right, we talked about this team last year, John not
- 2:04Speaker 3: being a really resilient team. They didn't respond in the
- 2:07Speaker 3: fourth quarter in close games. But Trevor, after a admittedly
- 2:13Speaker 3: underwhelming practice the day before, came out yesterday and owned it.
- 2:17Speaker 3: And he made a beautiful throw on the one headed
- 2:20Speaker 3: catch to Brenton Strange and then you know the run
- 2:23Speaker 3: to the right in the goal line where it was
- 2:25Speaker 3: a risky throw, but he put the ball on a
- 2:26Speaker 3: dime to Diamie Brown and I just I walked away
- 2:30Speaker 3: thinking Trevor has taken up big step forward.
- 2:34Speaker 6: Yeah, and look, he didn't have a great practice on Monday,
- 2:37Speaker 6: but you don't have great practices every day. I don't
- 2:41Speaker 6: anticipate having a very good show today, but you guys
- 2:42Speaker 6: will pick me up right here, John, I'll come back
- 2:45Speaker 6: tomorrow and be a lot better. What you look for
- 2:48Speaker 6: from him during training camp is steady growth and it's
- 2:52Speaker 6: not going to be like this. It's going to be
- 2:56Speaker 6: And he had a day like this and then he
- 2:58Speaker 6: came back. Somebody asked me why. I thought that was
- 3:00Speaker 6: because he's human, right, So in the last four or
- 3:05Speaker 6: five days and Brian Kai, I think you feel this
- 3:06Speaker 6: as well. You've seen solid stuff from him. You feel
- 3:11Speaker 6: like overall this is a guy who's comfortable in what
- 3:14Speaker 6: he's doing. He knows what they're asking of him. He's
- 3:17Speaker 6: still working through the footwork stuff, but it has to
- 3:21Speaker 6: be expected. He's learning a new language and he's trying
- 3:23Speaker 6: to speak that language consistently all the time. Now I'm
- 3:28Speaker 6: more optimistic about him than I have been since Cincinnati
- 3:34Speaker 6: in twenty three when it all started going south. I
- 3:36Speaker 6: feel like he's back on track, I would agree. And
- 3:38Speaker 6: since you talked about footwork, Kay, I think the word
- 3:40Speaker 6: with him is traction. It feels like he's getting traction
- 3:42Speaker 6: with the offense.
- 3:43Speaker 3: And for what Liam's expectations are for him as the
- 3:47Speaker 3: leader of this team, I feel like he's rising to
- 3:49Speaker 3: the occasion.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:50Speaker 1: And when you talk about resiliency, I think just in
- 3:52Speaker 1: contrast to what we felt last year and just being
- 3:54Speaker 1: around the team, felt like you were waiting for the
- 3:56Speaker 1: pin to drop at every point, for something to go wrong,
- 3:58Speaker 1: and it doesn't feel that way. Obviously, we're going to
- 4:00Speaker 1: get to games soon, so we'll see how it goes,
- 4:02Speaker 1: but it doesn't feel like they're waiting for the other
- 4:04Speaker 1: shoot to drop anymore. Feels like they're in control of
- 4:06Speaker 1: their own destiny, which is a good place to be.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Let's talk about one of the weapons Trevor's been throwing too.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Our second big thing today is going to be high flying.
- 4:14Speaker 1: We talked a little bit about the wide receiver group
- 4:16Speaker 1: group yesterday, but Parker Washington has had a great training
- 4:19Speaker 1: camp so far, had one of his best days in
- 4:21Speaker 1: practice yesterday. Grant he don't see offensive coordinator talked a
- 4:24Speaker 1: little bit about.
- 4:25Speaker 5: And you see a guy who can win consistently against
- 4:28Speaker 5: man coverage and match coverage, tight coverage like that, make
- 4:30Speaker 5: plays on the ball, tack the ball with his hands.
- 4:33Speaker 5: Those are encouraging for the play caller. They give you
- 4:35Speaker 5: comfort to give him isolation routes and put them in
- 4:38Speaker 5: different spots, just like we talked about Dyami's ability to
- 4:40Speaker 5: line up in different spots.
- 4:42Speaker 4: It trusts.
- 4:43Speaker 5: It allows you to trust Parker to be at different spots.
- 4:45Speaker 4: On the field.
- 4:46Speaker 5: A guy goes down here, he can plug and place
- 4:48Speaker 5: at different spots and go and execute a wide route.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Treat John during training camp.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I feel like there's some days where maybe you don't
- 4:56Speaker 1: see a certain player, they don't really jump out to you.
- 4:58Speaker 2: It feels like Parker's doing something every day where you.
- 4:59Speaker 6: Know, yeah, and look I'm not gonna say the whole
- 5:03Speaker 6: roster is there yet because you wouldn't expect it to
- 5:05Speaker 6: be in a regime change. Parker Washington third year looking
- 5:11Speaker 6: like this is what good franchises have all over the roster. Yes,
- 5:15Speaker 6: he's a six round draft pick who in his third
- 5:18Speaker 6: year now is showing you that if there's a problem
- 5:22Speaker 6: somewhere at receiver, he can step in and they're not lost.
- 5:25Speaker 6: He shouldn't have been the number two guy last year.
- 5:28Speaker 6: You feel great with him as the number four, and
- 5:30Speaker 6: you feel like when he gets in there's no drop off.
- 5:34Speaker 6: There is real depth wide receiver on this team. I'm
- 5:36Speaker 6: not sure how many other places there are, but that's
- 5:39Speaker 6: an example of where you've got to get Brian.
- 5:41Speaker 3: They shall have to go do it on the field, right,
- 5:43Speaker 3: But if they're right about Theammy Brown at Travis Hunter,
- 5:47Speaker 3: we believe they are. Parker Washington is the guy who
- 5:51Speaker 3: makes this the deepest I've ever seen this wide receiver room.
- 5:55Speaker 3: I mean, even going back to Jimmy McKinnon, they struggle
- 5:57Speaker 3: to find the three.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Now they may have a four.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Think about the flexibility John that that gives Liam Cohen
- 6:03Speaker 3: and Grant you Dinsky to be able to create mismatches
- 6:08Speaker 3: and to attack a defense. It's gonna be tough enough
- 6:11Speaker 3: to cover Travis Hunter in the slot. Now, what are
- 6:13Speaker 3: you gonna do with Parker Washington? I mean, yeah, it
- 6:16Speaker 3: really is.
- 6:17Speaker 4: He's right. This is the mark of a franchise that's
- 6:21Speaker 4: on the right track.
- 6:22Speaker 2: It's exciting.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Also, when we talked a little bit about wide receiver
- 6:25Speaker 1: five who that might be Trap's CTN is gonna be
- 6:28Speaker 1: a big part of this past game as well as
- 6:30Speaker 1: we've seen the usage.
- 6:31Speaker 2: So far in training camp. So that's exciting as well.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Don't want to forget our final big thing game prep.
- 6:35Speaker 1: We've got a preseason game on Saturday. We'll talk more
- 6:37Speaker 1: in depth about the Steelers coming to town. We do
- 6:40Speaker 1: not know if the starters will play, how long they
- 6:42Speaker 1: will play, what it's going to be, but we do
- 6:44Speaker 1: know this will be the first NFL head coaching game
- 6:47Speaker 1: for Liam Cohen as head coach Brian What can we expect?
- 6:51Speaker 1: What we're gonna learn a lot stylistically about how he's
- 6:53Speaker 1: gonna coach.
- 6:54Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 6:56Speaker 3: I just get the sense Kai and John that we're
- 6:58Speaker 3: not gonna see a whole lot. He's got the advantage
- 7:01Speaker 3: of not being in the position where he has to
- 7:03Speaker 3: show much. I think we're gonna see a lot of
- 7:05Speaker 3: the basics of what he expects, how he expects effort
- 7:08Speaker 3: and intensity and guys to play. He talked earlier this
- 7:11Speaker 3: week about not needing to play his starters too much,
- 7:15Speaker 3: but then having the experience in Tampa getting some quality reps.
- 7:19Speaker 3: I don't know where he's gonna play him too much,
- 7:20Speaker 3: but I think we're gonna see some very basic things.
- 7:22Speaker 3: But he's going to talk about effort, intensity and hustle
- 7:25Speaker 3: and things like that.
- 7:26Speaker 6: I think he'll learn more about what a head coach
- 7:31Speaker 6: goes through one game day. Then we'll learn about him,
- 7:35Speaker 6: because I don't think he'll show very much what he's
- 7:36Speaker 6: going to do in the regular season the preseason. I
- 7:39Speaker 6: anticipate this is my gut. I think he'll play starters
- 7:44Speaker 6: tomorrow as this as this team gets more his as
- 7:50Speaker 6: these guys have played in systems before. I don't know
- 7:52Speaker 6: if he'll do that moving forward next year, but I've
- 7:56Speaker 6: just got to believe that he's gonna want these guys
- 7:58Speaker 6: to feel game day together before week one.
- 8:02Speaker 4: And that's just me guessing.
- 8:03Speaker 3: He has not pulled me aside and told me that
- 8:05Speaker 3: about the fundamentals right of what he expects his team
- 8:08Speaker 3: and how he expects them deployed right.
- 8:09Speaker 1: And I think with so many new faces, new system
- 8:12Speaker 1: in place, it'd be nice to see him out there
- 8:13Speaker 1: at least for a little bit.
- 8:14Speaker 4: Yes, it would be all right.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Stay with us, We're going to.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Talk about the game against the Steelers coming up, and
- 8:19Speaker 1: also do deep dive into the tight end room. Tell
- 8:21Speaker 1: you who's in there after the break. Jag Zam brought
- 8:31Speaker 1: to me by Fields Auto Group. See Fields First, Jacksonville's
- 8:34Speaker 1: premier luxury autogroup.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Go to Fields Auto dot com.
- 8:39Speaker 7: Honestly, from a playing aspect, I don't think it's much different,
- 8:42Speaker 7: because obviously Evan was down last year for a lot
- 8:44Speaker 7: of games, so I had to take on that role.
- 8:47Speaker 4: But it was different.
- 8:48Speaker 7: I was in and out of it, you know, so
- 8:50Speaker 7: and when you're in and out of it, you know
- 8:52Speaker 7: obviously the reps are different, the roles are different, what
- 8:55Speaker 7: you're going to be asked to do in the game,
- 8:57Speaker 7: plans different. So that changed week the week in which
- 8:59Speaker 7: it kind of messed with me a little bit last year,
- 9:01Speaker 7: just trying to understand and feel my way and trying
- 9:04Speaker 7: to always prepare. But I think something that I've done
- 9:06Speaker 7: good ever since I've honestly been in college, and that
- 9:10Speaker 7: my college coaches taught me was to always prepare like
- 9:12Speaker 7: you're going to be a starter. And I think that
- 9:14Speaker 7: that paid off on me last year, and no matter
- 9:17Speaker 7: if I was a starter or whatever it was last year,
- 9:20Speaker 7: that's how.
- 9:20Speaker 3: I always prepared.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Brenton Strange entering year three. For him, obviously we're gonna
- 9:26Speaker 1: talk about the tight ends right now. He's probably one
- 9:28Speaker 1: of the only ones you're gonna remember from last season
- 9:30Speaker 1: because they really overhauled that room other than the coach
- 9:33Speaker 1: and Brenton Strange right there. But entering his third year,
- 9:36Speaker 1: we saw him in flashes.
- 9:37Speaker 2: As he mentioned.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Obviously, Evan Ingram was a favorite for Trevor Lawrence, but
- 9:41Speaker 1: Evan Ingram dealing with some injuries last year. So we
- 9:43Speaker 1: saw a decent amount of Brenton Strange and he certainly
- 9:46Speaker 1: has the ability, but he's excited to kind of know
- 9:48Speaker 1: that that is his role in the offense going in
- 9:50Speaker 1: this year.
- 9:51Speaker 3: He made a big catch yesterday on that one handed
- 9:54Speaker 3: grab and it made me wonder, John, how good can
- 9:57Speaker 3: he be?
- 9:58Speaker 5: Right?
- 9:58Speaker 3: I mean, he doesn't look a Travis Kelcey, Greg Kittle
- 10:02Speaker 3: kind of guy. But yet I thought a Dallas Goddard,
- 10:05Speaker 3: you know, a guy who's gonna catch fifty five sixty balls,
- 10:08Speaker 3: six seven touchdowns, and it'd be a differentiator in the
- 10:11Speaker 3: offense because he's he's going to attack the middle and
- 10:13Speaker 3: force a defense to adjust. He looks like he could
- 10:16Speaker 3: be that kind of impactable player.
- 10:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I think what you said hits it on the head.
- 10:21Speaker 6: Bare minimum he's gonna matter, meaning bare minimum defensive coordinators
- 10:25Speaker 6: can't ignore him. I think bare minimum is gonna be good.
- 10:27Speaker 6: We saw last year. I think he had forty catches.
- 10:29Speaker 6: I think it was about four hundred yards if I'm
- 10:31Speaker 6: remembering right, and he can up that, I think their
- 10:36Speaker 6: room is pretty good around him. At the very least,
- 10:40Speaker 6: he's going to be a high level blocker. Whatever he
- 10:42Speaker 6: gives you as a receiver beyond that forty mark I
- 10:46Speaker 6: think is gravy because I don't think they necessarily need
- 10:50Speaker 6: him to be the productive pass catcher that Devin Ingram
- 10:53Speaker 6: was because they've got so much more on the outside now,
- 10:55Speaker 6: So if he can compliment that and scare defenses in
- 10:58Speaker 6: the interior, I think he's a big part of the
- 11:00Speaker 6: going to do.
- 11:00Speaker 3: You know, the other thing about him is because we
- 11:02Speaker 3: kind of got to know Am a little bit off
- 11:04Speaker 3: Mike off camera. He's real serious about football. I mean
- 11:08Speaker 3: really serious about football, and that approach is exactly what
- 11:12Speaker 3: they're trying to build around here.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Absolutely, I think he's excited about every aspect of playing
- 11:16Speaker 1: a tight end. Sometimes you talk to the tight ends
- 11:18Speaker 1: and they want to be a wide receiver, right, They're
- 11:20Speaker 1: not as much into the blocking. You get the feeling
- 11:22Speaker 1: from him he's just excited to lay somebody out and
- 11:25Speaker 1: do run blocking as he is as catching a football.
- 11:28Speaker 6: Yeah, they want to run better around here, and you know,
- 11:31Speaker 6: I don't want to see him get hurt if they're
- 11:33Speaker 6: going to attain that goal. I think he's really important
- 11:35Speaker 6: for that.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Let's take a look at this group because a lot
- 11:39Speaker 1: of these names are new, so some of some experience
- 11:42Speaker 1: brought in. Obviously, Hunter Long and Johnny Munt both in
- 11:44Speaker 1: LA at one point, so James Gladstone kind of knew
- 11:47Speaker 1: them that way in free agency bringing those guys in.
- 11:51Speaker 1: And also some other names, Quinson Morris, Patrick Herbert, Justin
- 11:54Speaker 1: Herbert's little brother.
- 11:56Speaker 2: He's a rookie this year. He's on the roster as well.
- 11:58Speaker 1: John Copenhaber, we don't really know how this room is
- 12:00Speaker 1: gonna shake out, whether they'll carry three or four, what
- 12:02Speaker 1: that's going to be exactly, but there.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Is some experience there. Bretton Strange talked about it. He says, yeah, I'm.
- 12:08Speaker 1: The one that's been here, but some of these guys
- 12:09Speaker 1: have been in the league for a lot longer than me,
- 12:11Speaker 1: and they can bring in that experience and help me
- 12:13Speaker 1: out in that way as well.
- 12:14Speaker 2: So it's certainly not him trying to tell them what
- 12:17Speaker 2: to do.
- 12:18Speaker 3: The Hunter Long and the Johnny Munch strike me as
- 12:21Speaker 3: dependable options, not just because they understand they've been in
- 12:25Speaker 3: the system. But you know, there are guys who gets
- 12:27Speaker 3: to modest success. You know, thirty catches a couple hundred yards.
- 12:30Speaker 3: They know the role, they understand the offense, and they're
- 12:34Speaker 3: gonna be key pieces in packages.
- 12:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I've gotten questions people concerned about their tight end room,
- 12:40Speaker 6: where they gonna sign more guys. I think those questions
- 12:43Speaker 6: come from people who haven't heard of the tight end.
- 12:46Speaker 6: And my question is, unless you play fantasy football, how
- 12:48Speaker 6: many tight ends after Kelsey and Kittle have people heard of?
- 12:51Speaker 6: And I'm exaggerating that. But the point is these two
- 12:54Speaker 6: guys are really consistent, and if you've watched practice, when
- 12:58Speaker 6: Hunter Long's healthy, he can contribute in his passing game.
- 13:03Speaker 6: I'm not saying he's gonna catch hundrey yards with the balls,
- 13:05Speaker 6: but the other day he caught a forty five yard
- 13:07Speaker 6: pass and it didn't look like a fluke. So they
- 13:11Speaker 6: like their tight end room. I think a lot more
- 13:14Speaker 6: than people might think when you just glance at the
- 13:16Speaker 6: names and start and start looking for Pro Bowlers, and
- 13:19Speaker 6: they love Breton Strange.
- 13:20Speaker 4: I mean, he's a guy.
- 13:22Speaker 6: If you've watched our stuff, you realize they think of
- 13:26Speaker 6: him as a potential core guy.
- 13:28Speaker 3: If you haven't watched him, and if he plays in
- 13:31Speaker 3: the preseason, just watch the effort, watch the way he
- 13:33Speaker 3: finishes to play. That's what really stands out about him.
- 13:36Speaker 3: We talked about how seriously he is about football. He's
- 13:39Speaker 3: really serious about being a complete tight end, and in
- 13:42Speaker 3: an era where there's more receiving tight ends necessarily than
- 13:44Speaker 3: the complete tight end, Brenton Strange really stands out in
- 13:47Speaker 3: the way that he plays the game with effort, in
- 13:49Speaker 3: intensity and.
- 13:50Speaker 6: Kyle Munten and Long knowing the offense is really key
- 13:55Speaker 6: for why they're here. It's harder for a tight end
- 13:57Speaker 6: to learn an offense than the other two positions, meaning
- 13:59Speaker 6: line or wide receiver, because you've kind of got to
- 14:01Speaker 6: know everything. The big reason that they're positives is that
- 14:05Speaker 6: they have such experience in this scheme.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Yeah, grant you.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Dinsky talked a little bit yesterday about Johnny Mount. He
- 14:10Speaker 1: was with him in Minnesota, brought him down here. That's
- 14:12Speaker 1: going to be part of this, but he talked a
- 14:14Speaker 1: little bit about how helpful it is to have someone
- 14:15Speaker 1: that already knows where they need to be in the system.
- 14:18Speaker 4: Really could be.
- 14:19Speaker 5: More than that because of that flexibility, because he can
- 14:21Speaker 5: block so many different run schemes in the run game.
- 14:23Speaker 4: He can line up inline, he can line up.
- 14:25Speaker 5: As a wing, he can be going back across the
- 14:27Speaker 5: formation when he's off the ball, he can be in motion,
- 14:29Speaker 5: he can run a pretty wide route tree. So that
- 14:32Speaker 5: versatility is hard to guard because you can be an
- 14:34Speaker 5: eleven personnel twelve personnel, and he can be doing such
- 14:37Speaker 5: a variety of different things.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Versatility obviously the word of the day when it comes
- 14:41Speaker 1: to the tight end position, but these guys really do
- 14:44Speaker 1: have to do a little bit of everything, and it's
- 14:45Speaker 1: going to be different than we've seen in the past. Obviously,
- 14:47Speaker 1: the way Doug Peterson used tight ends is going to
- 14:49Speaker 1: be the different than the way Liam Cohen uses tight ends.
- 14:51Speaker 2: But it is nice to know that they have the
- 14:52Speaker 2: options with them.
- 14:54Speaker 6: Yeah, they don't want him to be receivers necessarily, and
- 14:57Speaker 6: in Doug's offense, Evan Ingram played receiver. Let's face it,
- 15:01Speaker 6: that's not what they're looking for these guys to do
- 15:03Speaker 6: their chess pieces on the board.
- 15:04Speaker 3: You know they're not gonna see him on the field
- 15:06Speaker 3: all the time, but when they are, it's going to
- 15:08Speaker 3: be a very specific package that they've got where they
- 15:10Speaker 3: want the tight end. So I just john, you talked
- 15:13Speaker 3: about the roster death a little while ago, when we're
- 15:14Speaker 3: talking about wide receivers. The thing that I like about
- 15:17Speaker 3: this is that they're completely confident that they've got guys
- 15:20Speaker 3: that fit what they want to do and allow them
- 15:22Speaker 3: to open up the entire playbook. So many times over
- 15:25Speaker 3: the last number of years, you just knew that Jaguars
- 15:27Speaker 3: didn't have enough of those pieces on board, and it
- 15:30Speaker 3: really limited defenses could step up and challenge and take
- 15:34Speaker 3: away your best players for the first time in a while.
- 15:36Speaker 4: I don't feel like they're gonna be able to do
- 15:37Speaker 4: that here.
- 15:38Speaker 6: Yeah, we'll see. I mean, the games haven't started yet,
- 15:41Speaker 6: but it just feels like a lot of the free
- 15:43Speaker 6: agents we talked about and didn't talk about a whole
- 15:45Speaker 6: lot are going to matter a great deal. It feels
- 15:48Speaker 6: like they did a nice job. All regimes try to
- 15:51Speaker 6: do this so far, Brown, Jordan Lewis, you know, these
- 15:55Speaker 6: guys feels like they've done a nice job of fitting
- 15:58Speaker 6: pieces and that they wont that they had been able
- 16:01Speaker 6: to draft because they weren't here the guys that you
- 16:03Speaker 6: normally would have drafted.
- 16:05Speaker 4: So we'll see.
- 16:06Speaker 1: One more SoundBite from Brenton Strange, who talked a little
- 16:09Speaker 1: bit yesterday about now that he kind of knows his
- 16:11Speaker 1: role in the offense, he's working on building that trust
- 16:13Speaker 1: up with Trevor Lawrence.
- 16:16Speaker 7: I think that each day I'm coming out here and
- 16:18Speaker 7: just trying to earn Trevor's trust more and more, because
- 16:21Speaker 7: that's a big part of it. You know, He's had
- 16:23Speaker 7: a relationship with obviously like BT. Like BT, it was
- 16:26Speaker 7: there for him all last year and then, like I said,
- 16:29Speaker 7: I was in and out of games last year, so
- 16:30Speaker 7: I wasn't always the guy that he was throwing the
- 16:32Speaker 7: balls to or whatever it was. So I think that
- 16:35Speaker 7: that's a big thing for me. It's just coming out
- 16:36Speaker 7: here and just not only proven to Trevor, but proven
- 16:39Speaker 7: to the coaches and proven to my teammates as well,
- 16:41Speaker 7: that I can be a reliable playmaker for this team.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Brian, We've seen in the past Trevor Lawrence likes to
- 16:46Speaker 1: throw the people he likes to throw to, He's gonna
- 16:48Speaker 1: have a lot of them are gone, so.
- 16:50Speaker 2: He's gonna have to make new favorites, but a lot
- 16:52Speaker 2: of them working towards that.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Ki Britton was a rookie in twenty twenty three when
- 16:57Speaker 3: he watched Evan Ingram catch one hundred and fourteen past,
- 17:00Speaker 3: the second most by a tight end in a single
- 17:02Speaker 3: season in the league history. He knows that this quarterback
- 17:05Speaker 3: likes that position. And when he says earn his trust,
- 17:09Speaker 3: I mean it's he's going to be in the right
- 17:13Speaker 3: spot on every play, and that's going to give Trevor
- 17:18Speaker 3: the chance to build the same relationship he had with
- 17:20Speaker 3: Evan Ingram.
- 17:21Speaker 4: It might not be one hundred and fourteen catching.
- 17:23Speaker 3: It almost certainly won't because Brian Thomas Junior, and Travis
- 17:26Speaker 3: Hunter and Diami Brown and even Parker Washington. But man,
- 17:30Speaker 3: if it's fifty five and they're the right ones on
- 17:32Speaker 3: third down and seven, he's got a chance to be
- 17:34Speaker 3: Evan Ingram like in terms of his dependability.
- 17:37Speaker 6: Yeah, if Brenton Strange catch one hundred and fourteen, something's
- 17:39Speaker 6: gone hardly alright. So but I do think Strange has
- 17:46Speaker 6: probably practiced more with Trevor than he's played. And it
- 17:49Speaker 6: certainly looks to me out here like Trevor is confident
- 17:54Speaker 6: in the four wide receivers, meaning Parker Washington as well.
- 17:58Speaker 6: But it it feels to me like he doesn't hesitate
- 18:01Speaker 6: to go to Strange and then he trusts him and
- 18:03Speaker 6: he likes him. I think it's important.
- 18:05Speaker 1: It's nice to establish at this point in training camp,
- 18:07Speaker 1: so when the games happen, we'll have that trust.
- 18:09Speaker 2: There as well.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Say us, we're going to talk a little bit about
- 18:11Speaker 1: preseason game number one against the Steelers coming up on Saturday.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Setteth Moving in Storage is for his most trusted and
- 18:24Speaker 1: dependable moving company said it's proud to be the official
- 18:26Speaker 1: moving company of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Get a guaranteed quote
- 18:29Speaker 1: is a sutteth dot com slash Jacksonville. Welcome back to
- 18:35Speaker 1: jack sam set.
- 18:35Speaker 2: As sponsoring our preview of the first preseason game.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Of the year against the Steelers and going up against
- 18:41Speaker 1: Mike Tomlin. Yes, it's the preseason, but you can always
- 18:44Speaker 1: learn a little bit something from a guy that's been
- 18:46Speaker 1: doing it that long Head coach Liam Cohen said earlier
- 18:49Speaker 1: this week he called Tomlin kind of see what his
- 18:51Speaker 1: plans were for the game. We'll find what out find
- 18:54Speaker 1: out whatever that is on Saturday, but have to imagine
- 18:57Speaker 1: that's a good resource.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Steffy, long time and at a very high level, obviously
- 19:01Speaker 3: never having a losing season in what eighteen years. I'm
- 19:05Speaker 3: really interested, John, because these Steelers have taken a dramatic
- 19:09Speaker 3: departure from what the Steelers have always been. They're not
- 19:12Speaker 3: a free agent team. They're a team that drafts and develops.
- 19:14Speaker 3: And yet they went out and they signed Aaron Rodgers,
- 19:18Speaker 3: and they trade for DK Metcalf and they trade for
- 19:20Speaker 3: Jalen Ramsey, and I mean, these are things that the
- 19:23Speaker 3: Steelers long resisted. It was not part of their DNA
- 19:27Speaker 3: or their personality, and it feels like they are rolling
- 19:30Speaker 3: the dice in a completely new era.
- 19:31Speaker 6: I haven't talked to him in a while, Brian, but
- 19:33Speaker 6: imagine our friend vic Oh has thoughts, many.
- 19:38Speaker 4: Of which would not be suitable for the show.
- 19:40Speaker 6: Yeah, it's absolutely They were for years, really them along
- 19:46Speaker 6: with the Ravens. But the Steelers since I started coming
- 19:48Speaker 6: to the league have always been that team of we're
- 19:52Speaker 6: gonna do what we do, We're gonna draft and develop.
- 19:54Speaker 6: This feels like a Steelers team that is reaching into
- 19:59Speaker 6: free agency, really departing from their past. I'm sure fans
- 20:05Speaker 6: like it, because fans love that. I think old Sealer
- 20:08Speaker 6: fans probably a little uncomfortable with it. So we'll see
- 20:12Speaker 6: how it works. Man, They've done that in the past
- 20:14Speaker 6: and always gone back to what they were. But they
- 20:18Speaker 6: will be one of the teams to watch because when
- 20:20Speaker 6: Aaron Rodgers is on your team these days, Pat McFee
- 20:24Speaker 6: talks about you, well, you get the.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Sense that they went this route with Ramsey and DK
- 20:29Speaker 3: and all of those guys because they made the mistake
- 20:31Speaker 3: at the quarterback position a couple of years ago. They
- 20:33Speaker 3: drafted the kid out of pitt who last year was
- 20:36Speaker 3: in Philly and now is in Cleveland. They were hoping
- 20:38Speaker 3: to find their next quarterback after Ben Roethlisberger, and they missed,
- 20:42Speaker 3: and so they had to do something about quarterback and
- 20:45Speaker 3: this was their best option. So if you're going to
- 20:47Speaker 3: bring in Aaron Rodgers, will ye, you've got to bring
- 20:50Speaker 3: in other guys around it. You're putting it all on
- 20:54Speaker 3: today for a team that was ten and seven last year,
- 20:56Speaker 3: although it didn't necessarily feel like a ten and seventeen.
- 21:01Speaker 6: To push your chips in year, and the Steelers don't
- 21:04Speaker 6: usually push chips in like that. They usually go like
- 21:07Speaker 6: the Ravens do, which is long term.
- 21:08Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens to I am very intrigued
- 21:10Speaker 1: by this because I feel like there's a lot of
- 21:12Speaker 1: personality Aaron Rodgers and Jalen Ramsey alone, but Mike Tomlin's
- 21:16Speaker 1: notoriously been able to wrangle that into something in the past,
- 21:21Speaker 1: Antonio and Brown, what he's doing with last year as
- 21:24Speaker 1: well some of his other wide receivers. If there's anyone
- 21:28Speaker 1: that can do it, it's Mike Tomlin. But I am
- 21:30Speaker 1: curious to kind of see how this plays out.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Which personality which you'd rather deal with Aaron Rodgers, who
- 21:35Speaker 3: last year proved to be more more curial than we
- 21:37Speaker 3: knew or Jalen Ramsey.
- 21:39Speaker 6: Who we know?
- 21:40Speaker 2: You guys know Jalen.
- 21:41Speaker 4: I think Jalen, right, I'd rather I don't know. You're
- 21:46Speaker 4: a big Jalen guy. Yeah.
- 21:50Speaker 6: I think what's interesting is it's a big child. If
- 21:52Speaker 6: anybody can handle those guys, Tomlin can't. I have grave
- 21:54Speaker 6: re sect from Mike Tomlin. He's usually handled Antonio Brown
- 21:58Speaker 6: and that cast younger in their careers. Yes, Jalen and
- 22:03Speaker 6: Aaron are old enough to tune people out. I don't
- 22:07Speaker 6: know if they will tune people out, but they're old
- 22:08Speaker 6: enough to do it. Jalen has tuned people out before.
- 22:12Speaker 6: So look, it's going to be absolutely fascinating. And it
- 22:17Speaker 6: again hip the theme. There's many teams that are fascinating
- 22:21Speaker 6: like this. It's weird to see the Steelers label on
- 22:24Speaker 6: this sort of fascination.
- 22:26Speaker 3: I'm interested in how Jalen reacts to being in Pittsburgh.
- 22:29Speaker 3: That's a place when you go in there, you were
- 22:32Speaker 3: part of the Steelers, you're not necessarily your even though
- 22:37Speaker 3: Antonio Brown was sort of that way. I wonder if
- 22:40Speaker 3: it impacts him because of where he's at in his career.
- 22:42Speaker 3: I mean, he's at that point now where he's getting
- 22:44Speaker 3: towards the end, and his legacy is not as defined
- 22:48Speaker 3: as a player of his abilities should be. Well, he's
- 22:50Speaker 3: moved around a lot.
- 22:51Speaker 4: He's done it to himself.
- 22:52Speaker 6: And it's interesting because there are franchises where he's gone
- 22:55Speaker 6: to that he's had a chance going in to be
- 22:58Speaker 6: a legacy corner. He'll never be the legacy corner in Pittsburgh.
- 23:02Speaker 6: There's two guys that will always be considered better. So
- 23:06Speaker 6: I don't know if that matters. But if you're looking
- 23:08Speaker 6: at it from his perspective, mel Blunt, Rod Woodson, in
- 23:12Speaker 6: that organization, those kind of names still permeate. So will
- 23:17Speaker 6: he fit into that tradition.
- 23:19Speaker 4: I don't know if he wants to, if he's willing
- 23:21Speaker 4: to be humbled to a point.
- 23:23Speaker 3: I know that sounds so weird to say he'll do that,
- 23:26Speaker 3: But if he wants to be can he can take
- 23:30Speaker 3: a great step forward, no doubt with his reputation and listen,
- 23:34Speaker 3: he's a guy with Hall of Fame talent.
- 23:36Speaker 4: You at some point you've got to have somebody behind you.
- 23:39Speaker 3: We know this that pops up and starts talking about
- 23:42Speaker 3: you in those meetings, that's willing to advocate for you.
- 23:44Speaker 4: I don't know who it is right now.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Maybe someone in Pittsburgh can grab that if he goes
- 23:48Speaker 3: in and is part of a team that does something special.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Pittsburgh is similar to New England in a way where
- 23:53Speaker 1: sometimes they get those later in their career free agents,
- 23:56Speaker 1: but if you go in with effort, they will fully
- 23:58Speaker 1: take you into open arms for sure. And that as
- 24:01Speaker 1: you're mentioning, you know, Hall of Fame you looking back
- 24:02Speaker 1: at like that, you definitely need that symphoria.
- 24:05Speaker 2: All right, So coming back, we'll do our final word
- 24:07Speaker 2: after the break. Here on Tag's Am Jags fans.

- 24:32Speaker 1: the season. It's preseason.
- 24:33Speaker 2: I don't care. I'm excited to see real football. What
- 24:36Speaker 2: are you excited to see? Brian? We don't know what
- 24:38Speaker 2: we're going to see, but what do you want to see?
- 24:41Speaker 4: I want to see the fundamentals. I want to see
- 24:42Speaker 4: what's important to the coach.
- 24:45Speaker 3: I mean, he's been talking about fast right, fundamentally, sound, attacking, smart, tough.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Those are the.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Things that I expect that we will see Liam Cohen emphasizing.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Hear him emphasizing in the postgame, and I'd like to
- 24:59Speaker 3: see it team that plays that way. This is a
- 25:01Speaker 3: team that's sort of limped to the end of last season,
- 25:04Speaker 3: and it all feels new and different. In fact, John
- 25:06Speaker 3: I said to someone this morning watching them go through
- 25:09Speaker 3: their walkthrough here in front of us inside, that this
- 25:12Speaker 3: team has the posture the confidence of a team that
- 25:15Speaker 3: was nine to eight last year, not four and thirteen.
- 25:19Speaker 4: I'd like to see that on Saturday night.
- 25:21Speaker 6: Yeah, if the starters play, you'd like to see the
- 25:23Speaker 6: offense have a couple of series where they get a
- 25:26Speaker 6: few first downs, maybe get a touchdown, come off the
- 25:29Speaker 6: field feeling good about what they've been sort of like
- 25:32Speaker 6: you felt about after the scrimmage the other night. So
- 25:36Speaker 6: you'd also like to see four or five of the
- 25:39Speaker 6: guys we've been talking about, like maybe a Cephas of
- 25:42Speaker 6: a Quint Allen, somebody like that, sort of step up
- 25:45Speaker 6: and show, Okay, we're going from camp storyline to a
- 25:50Speaker 6: guy who can maybe contribute during the regious season.
- 25:52Speaker 4: I think.
- 25:53Speaker 6: I think guy the Quint Allen for fans who are
- 25:55Speaker 6: watching seventh round running back, somebody to really watch during
- 25:58Speaker 6: the preseason.
- 25:59Speaker 1: All the running back, I think, or someone to keep
- 26:01Speaker 1: an eye on. I'm excited about the offensive line, the offense, defense.
- 26:04Speaker 2: We're gonna do all of it real football.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Jag Zam's back with you three days a week starting
- 26:09Speaker 1: next week, so we will be back on Monday and
- 26:11Speaker 1: we will recap that first preseason game of the year
- 26:13Speaker 1: from Saturday.
- 26:14Speaker 2: So enjoy your weekend.
