- 1:33Anyways, all right, So let's just go ahead and get into this
- 1:37episode because I'm already annoyed with stew Teresa Renee Mayfield nay Wale was born September
- 1:42two, in nineteen sixty two to William and Reba Wale in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
- 1:48She would grow up in Alabama with her two sisters, Donnis and Ashley,
- 1:53and her brother James. Now, tragedy would strike the family when in
- 1:57nineteen eighty three, Teresa's younger younger sister, Donnis passed away. Not real
- 2:01sure, they didn't have any information on that, so I don't really know
- 2:06what happened. But Teresa met William Scott Mayfield, who went by Scott,
- 2:10and they would marry and start a family of their own. Now, Teresa
- 2:14dreamed of having a loving husband and children she could watch grow. Just typical
- 2:19dreams that a lot of people have, is, you know, growing up,
- 2:23finding a good husband. Not everybody gets their dreams come through, and
- 2:28then having children. So that's what Teresa wanted in life, Stewart Now.
- 2:36They eventually settled in Moundville, Alabama, where they welcomed their first child,
- 2:39a daughter named Kelsey. Kelsey spelled k E l Ci now after Kelsey was
- 2:46born spelled k Elci could do that every time. It's just it's a unique
- 2:52spelling. I don't know. Teresa and Scott would hit a rough patch.
- 2:55Scott actually had an affair and Teresa found out about it, so she was
- 3:00like, GTFO, I'm done, get out. They ended up divorcing,
- 3:07but just three short years later, I mean they went through with the full
- 3:09divorce and everything like they were done. So this wasn't people do everything dragged
- 3:16out everything, or this wasn't dragged out. They got divorced, but just
- 3:20three short years later they actually reconciled and she ended up remarrying him. So
- 3:24she wanted her family to be together. I guess you can invite me,
- 3:28but I am not buying you another gift to their wedding. Yes, So
- 3:36anyway, so she just really wanted I guess she still had that dream of
- 3:38like having her family as a whole, which there's a lot of people that
- 3:40deal with infidelity and then they stay together. I, however, will kill
- 3:46Stewart. So that's just where I stand with that. There will not be
- 3:53reconciliation as you cannot reconcile with the deceased. So after they got back together.
- 4:00They remarried. They had two more children. These were sons and their
- 4:03names were Taylor and Colby. Now the spelled with a y, not an
- 4:10eye, that Colby name, and they usual yeah, but Kelsey's usually not
- 4:15spelled with an eye or a ce. Now the family seemed very happy they
- 4:20had recovered from that earlier divorce, that rocky patch that they went through.
- 4:25Teresa loved being a mom. She loved watching her children play sports, specifically
- 4:29softball for Kelsey and baseball for Taylor and Colby. Now she was described as
- 4:34the quintessential sports mom. She's always running into a practice or a ball game.
- 4:39She loved it. She always had like all the bats and balls in
- 4:44the trunk ready to go for practice everything. Whenever I was watching this,
- 4:47she like, I played softball in high school. She reminded me a little
- 4:49bit of my mom. She even kind of looked like or whatever, but
- 4:53that's what she reminded me of. Now. Teresa and her family were regular
- 4:56churchgoers, attending Stuart United Methodist Church. That's my church, God help these
- 5:02people. That's where I preach at. Oh, I thought you were gonna
- 5:05say, that's where they people worshiped you at the Steward United We're Gonna You're
- 5:12Gonna go to Hell. Teresa loved helping with the children and was involved involved
- 5:16with the church's children's program. Now. She was described as outgoing, fun
- 5:20and loved people. Now. The family did struggle with money at times.
- 5:24Scott would work two jobs to make ends meet, but they were happy.
- 5:28They had three kids living life typical finance struggles that a lot of people deal
- 5:34with, but they were making it. On the morning of June thirteenth,
- 5:39two thousand and seven, Teresa left Kelsey at home with the two younger boys,
- 5:45who were now eight and eleven. She needed to go run some errands
- 5:48and Scott, their dad, was at work. Teresa was scheduled to return
- 5:53home, but she failed to. Dum dumb. Kelsey began calling her mom,
- 5:59who was who always had her cell phone on her, but she wasn't
- 6:02answering. She kept calling with no response all through the afternoon and the evening.
- 6:08Kelsey was able to get hold of her dad as he left his day
- 6:11job to head to his evening job at a factory. Scott was very concerned,
- 6:15and he ended up leaving work around midnight to head to the police department.
- 6:19Yeah I mean I would have probably just finished my shift at the factory.
- 6:23I mean she's only been missing like twelve hours. Must have been a
- 6:26salad, cold or something. She had cash. She might add some coals
- 6:30cash. I can see why he wasn't too concerned until midnight. You're being
- 6:34sarcastic. Well, yes, I mean people that normally listen to this would
- 6:40pick up on her chasm. Well, and those that don't write one star
- 6:44reviews. Okay, Well, anyways, I'm having a demand splain Stewart over
- 6:49here, but STU splain him anyways. But yes, it was seemed like
- 6:56a long He was very cavalier with his timing to contact the police. I
- 7:01feel like, or come home or look forward. Well, especially he had
- 7:04three small children. I mean the kids boys were eight and eleven. I
- 7:08don't know how they didn't have Kelsey was a maybe four or five years old.
- 7:13She was a teenager. I mean that's and she could have been fourteen,
- 7:15fifteen or more. Either way, it's three children under the age of
- 7:19eighteen at home all day by themselves, worried, frantic about their mom and
- 7:25why she's not answering their phone and her phone and everything, and you're just
- 7:28like, let me just head onto my next job, that's fine. Yeah.
- 7:31If she don't show up, call me at my next job. Yeah.
- 7:34So anyway, during this time, they called family, they called friends,
- 7:39with no sign of Teresa. Reba who is Teresa's mother, Not Reba
- 7:44McIntyre. I know I was disappointed as well. Are you sure now?
- 7:48Reba? Her husband had passed away about a decade before all this, So
- 7:55this is Teresa's only parent eleven right now, and she lived about two hours
- 8:00away, and she had not seen nor heard from Teresa either. Everyone was
- 8:05very worried because this wasn't like Teresa. She's a mom first and foremost,
- 8:09and nobody would ever think that she would even be capable of leaving her children
- 8:15alone because she was always there for him, going to the practices, doing
- 8:18all the things. Yeah, and so everybody out of character. This is
- 8:24not something she does. She's not a flighty mom. That just takes off
- 8:28me, like, I can't even want these children anymore. Like Karen going
- 8:33to coals, those are business trips. I have calls cash piece out.
- 8:37No, but you know what, you know what they've done got me on
- 8:41at the coals. So Amazon, So Coals worked out a deal with Amazon.
- 8:46This gets me every time. So we take our daughter, she goes
- 8:50to the little the little gym well on Saturdays. Well it's right next to
- 8:56the Coals. So we ordered ten of Amazon stuff, just like everybody else,
- 9:00so we have the whenever we have a return, if it's not something's
- 9:03defective. Amazon now makes you either pay for shipping or take it to one
- 9:07of their like places to drop off, and a lot of times it's easier
- 9:11just to like pop into the wherever you're going to store. So one of
- 9:13the places is Coals. So when you go return at the Coals now though,
- 9:18they give you a twenty percent off your entire purchase when you do your
- 9:22Amazon return, So then you're in the store, you're leaving, you're like,
- 9:24oh, I got this twenty percent off. Every time I bought stuff,
- 9:28I've spent more than what I was returning on the Amazon at the Coals
- 9:33Yeah, because you're cheap. You're sending like back a five dollars item and
- 9:35you could probably just throw on the garbage cam, but you're like, no,
- 9:37I'm my five dollars. Yeah, and then I haven't spent in one
- 9:39hundred dollars at Coals with twenty percent off. Yes, yeah, so Coals
- 9:43they're onto something. They're you got yourself. No, this is marketing by
- 9:52the Coals people, and they're good. If you would just throw the item
- 9:54in the garbage cam. Why would I throw a perfectly good item away that
- 9:58I could get money back for because when you got it, calls and you
- 10:01spend more money. This is a recent development. It's only happened the last
- 10:07four times I've this on Amazon, because I've done it through the Coals.
- 10:11Anyways, Anyways, so Scott arrived at the police station and filed a missing
- 10:16persons report. But it did not take long for them to find Teresa because
- 10:20that morning, you know, he filed the police report at around midnight or
- 10:22went to the police station around that time. So just a few hours later,
- 10:26about a half a mile from her home, they actually found Teresa's vehicle
- 10:30on a dirt road and in the tree like it was like, well,
- 10:37I don't know what shoved into the trees, shoved into the not shoved into
- 10:41the trees, like rammed into the trees, not rammed crashed crashed in trees.
- 10:46You know, babies take brain cells due they these two over here really
- 10:50taken a lot for me. They have, and they ain't got much to
- 10:54show for it. I'm kidding. They're they're brilliant, they're gonna be just
- 11:00it's just fine. So there's nothing wrong with trade school. No anyway,
- 11:07So I'm kidding. Guys, don't write me ugly letters. So it's c
- 11:13A R A. Yeah, at least get my name spelled right. Okay,
- 11:18No, stud's not college educated. It's fine. I mean, I
- 11:24mean I tried to overcome with all my degrees. But no, you just
- 11:28latch onto somebody that's already got it and me just go with down. Yeah,
- 11:33that's what you've done. So the forty four year old, let's get
- 11:37back to being serious because it's when things are going to get darksto. So
- 11:41this is all on you. Then in the vehicle they found forty four year
- 11:46old Teresa Mayfield. She had been shot and she was dead. Now,
- 11:50there was initial discussion of Teresa possibly having committed suicide. I didn't see this
- 11:54coming whenever I was looking into this. That to me was like kind of
- 11:58crazy because she was, you know, pretty happy and seemed very involved with
- 12:03their children. But and the possibility of her committing suicide came about because even
- 12:09some of her family members thought that it might have crossed. It crossed their
- 12:13minds for just a brief moment that this could have been, you know,
- 12:16what she did to herself. Yeah, what she did to herself. They
- 12:20were telling police that, you know, she was very stressed out lately over
- 12:24all these financial issues, and her daughter Kelsey could tell that her mom was
- 12:28struggling under the pressures of the home finances too, like her daughter could see,
- 12:31like things, dad's working two jobs. I think Teresa was a state
- 12:37maybe a state at home mom. I'm not real sure if she was.
- 12:39It didn't wasn't clear if she was working or not. But yeah, it
- 12:43was you know a lot of stresses coming from that. Yeah, because he's
- 12:46working two jobs, so he's gone all the time, and she's probably taken
- 12:50managing the home finances and seeing where things are at, taking three kids around
- 12:54yep. So they yeah, plus all like baseball and softball, so it's
- 12:58competitive, super expensive. So but despite her being under this stress, the
- 13:05family did know that no matter how Teresa would have felt, she would never
- 13:07have left her children like that. She loved them too much. Now,
- 13:11the theory of suicide was not long lived. No Penitini intended there was a
- 13:20I know there was a key object missing from the scene, Stu, what
- 13:26do you think that was if someone's going to if someone shot themselves in the
- 13:28head, what do you think is going to be laying there next to him?
- 13:31Well, since she said a key object, I'm guessing the car keys
- 13:33were missing. No, the gun. So there's no gun there. So
- 13:39they're like, well, obviously she didn't kill herself that whoever did this too
- 13:43or should have left the gun there because they might have been able to play
- 13:46this off or whatever. So well, actually, once it gets into like
- 13:50the autopsy and stuff, they usually can tell, you know, by the
- 13:54interest somebody was able to handle a weapon that way and actually shoot themselves.
- 13:58Yeah, so the gun's missing. So other than Teresa being murdered, there
- 14:03was nothing in the crime scene that indicated a struggle or someone else even having
- 14:07been there. Like they just she's just murdered out here. There's no gun,
- 14:11and then everything else is not like fine car. There's no broken windows,
- 14:16there's no anything like door halfway open, nothing, She's just sitting in
- 14:20her yep, none of that. There were no hairs or fingerprints, and
- 14:24no other tire tracks. Or footprints leading to her from the vehicle, and
- 14:30it was a dirt road, so you think you would have seen something like
- 14:33that. The only item missing was her cell phone, but no other items
- 14:35were taken. The purse had been dumped to look like a robbery, but
- 14:39they did not actually take her wallet or anything. Now, the driver's side
- 14:43window was rolled down, indicating that Teresa knew her killer. So she's rolled
- 14:46the window down to talk to this person and then they attacked her with the
- 14:50gun. Now, police immediately bring Scott in to question him about his whereabouts
- 14:56and him and Teresa's relationship. Yeah, always look at the husband. No,
- 15:01you look at the wife. She's what do you mean, look at
- 15:05the wife. She's dead. The husband's the number one suspect. Well it
- 15:09should be you, no matter who got murdered, should be now. Scott
- 15:16tells police that he was at work at his day job on a farm.
- 15:20He said he had spoken to Teresa earlier that morning and that she had called
- 15:24him about two hours later. He said it sounded like she was on the
- 15:28road and he couldn't make out she was saying, and the call began the
- 15:33drop. Now, he thought nothing of it and just assumed that she had
- 15:37hit a spot with no reception, then he'd be getting a call from her
- 15:39in a couple of minutes or later whenever she got around a call in him
- 15:43back. Yeah, he said, he didn't even He said, during that
- 15:46conversation, he received the call, but there was such bad reception, like
- 15:48he didn't even talk to her at all, Like it was just yeah.
- 15:54So he said, there was nothing alarmment about the last call he had with
- 15:56her. He tells him that he and Teresa were happy. There was no
- 16:00infidelity in the marriage on either side. They were very much in a good
- 16:06marriage and did not argue. That's a lot, that's a goddamn lie.
- 16:11Everybody argues at some point about something. Well, I mean, but I
- 16:17think it. There's normal arguing and then there's I'm going to murder my wife
- 16:22arguing. And so he was saying that it's probably like if I was if
- 16:26someone came and asked us if you were a murdered or if I was murdering
- 16:30you asked if they were asked if we are let's just say nobody's murdered.
- 16:33They're just asking us. Say we're on a game show, and they asked
- 16:34us if we argue yes, No, we don't argue. When do we
- 16:40argue? Why were you talking about? No, I'm annoyed by you,
- 16:42but that's completely different than arguing. Sometimes your existence annoys me, but that
- 16:48we're not arguing about that. Those are just those are just facts. We
- 16:55don't need to argue about that. Well, tonight, when we go to
- 16:57bed, I'm gonna put my head on the pillow and pass out right away.
- 17:00I know you are, and I'm gonna get that annoys me to no
- 17:03end, and you'll be up for at least thirty minutes being and then you'll
- 17:07bite when I'm about to doze off. Then one of the children will wake
- 17:11up, and then I'll get up and mess with them, because you can
- 17:14sleep through anything. Yeah, that's how it goes. Anyway, We're real
- 17:22happy, guys. Police did check out Scott's alibi, and he had witnesses
- 17:26as to where he was, which was at the farm, and he also
- 17:30had a breakfast receipt from Hardy's about thirty miles from Mound Belle at the time
- 17:34of the murder up near Tuscaloosa. Do you eat the hearties? Stup,
- 17:41not the breakfast Now, I ain't been the Hardys in quite some time.
- 17:45Hardy's and Carl's Junior are the same thing. Now. Yes, we used
- 17:48to go to a Hearty's whenever I was in a child, and I used
- 17:51to always get a burger with mayo, lettuce, cheese, and then the
- 17:56burger you know. But there was the one we always went too was on
- 18:00the Oklahoma Turnpike, and there was a lady that worked there, and every
- 18:03time I saw her, I would like cry. I don't know if she
- 18:06gave me like bad vibes. I was terrified of this woman and that worked
- 18:11with the hardiest. Yet you took your food from her and ate it.
- 18:15Well, I wasn't I was a child. I didn't really have a choice.
- 18:17But every time I went my mom, I would just like burst into
- 18:19tears crying because of being around this lady. And your mom kept taking him
- 18:23back to see this lady. Well, we like the Hardies. I like
- 18:26the burger. I like the burger. No, that was the only one
- 18:30I guess out of look then, I mean eventually I think she stopped,
- 18:36but it wasn't good. It's still it was one of my favorite foods.
- 18:37I probably was asking it to go. And then whenever that lady was there,
- 18:41I would cry, I want to know what's wrong with that lady.
- 18:45I wouldn't if I wish I knew what her name was so I could find
- 18:48out what evil things she had done her life for. Like you know,
- 18:51like they say children and dogs can like sense that about people. Stewart,
- 18:56No, no, ye didn't you terrors the neighbor teenager that pulled into his
- 19:02own driveway. He was very scary, and he pulled into his own driveway
- 19:07at his house where he lived, whose yard you happened to be in.
- 19:11I've had a fear of strangers and a fear of being abducted for a long
- 19:15time in my life. Yes, I was very little. I was probably
- 19:18like four or five. And this was back whenever they let the kids ride
- 19:22around the neighborhood. You know, just wild. You know. Now they
- 19:27call him free range parenting, and it's just like you let your child do
- 19:32anything without surveillance, then all of a sudden, you're some sort of hippie
- 19:36free range parent. But of course we wouldn't let our children go anywhere by
- 19:38themselves, but this one you could just go ride around the neighborhood. So
- 19:44yeah, we rode around and then we pulled into We were in their driveway
- 19:48and he had this black truck and it just carried the shit out of me
- 19:52as a child. I threw my bike down and started screaming and ran away
- 19:56crying all the way back home. And then the poor kid, he was
- 19:59a teenager, and he's just like, I didn't do anything. He's like,
- 20:07I'm sorry, I just I just pulled into the driveway where I live.
- 20:11Yeah, where I live. Anyways. Now, with Scott cleared,
- 20:15please begin reaching out to other friends and family. Now, Teresa was supposed
- 20:18to meet a friend that day to go shopping and her name was Kim Binyon.
- 20:23Now, Kim says that the last time she spoke to spoke to Teresa
- 20:26was on the phone around seven am the morning she was killed. Now,
- 20:30Teresa was supposed to come pick Kim up, but never showed. Kim called
- 20:34Teresa multiple times with no answer, and she was very worried about her friend
- 20:38as well, like this wasn't again. Everyone knew this is not like Teresa.
- 20:44With all the last interactions with Teresa being on the phone, they subpoenaed
- 20:47her phone records to verify what everybody was stating, saying, if you said
- 20:51you called it this time, let's double check, make sure you're actually telling
- 20:55the truth. This is when they found something odd. The call that Teresa
- 20:59had with Scott was not made near Moundville. It pinned off a tower in
- 21:03Tuscaloosa's dude ruttro Raggy. Now with the time of death, in the time
- 21:08of the phone call in Tuscaloosa, it was clear that Teresa could not have
- 21:11made that phone call. So whoever took that phone of hers after they murdered
- 21:17her, they made that phone call to Scott. So we know now that
- 21:21that phone call that he said he didn't hear anything that it was just like
- 21:25the phone call drops. Teresa was dead by that point because whoever killed her
- 21:30had her phone was making phone calls from Tuscaloosa, driving Tuscaloosa where Scott was.
- 21:36Yes, it was taunting him thirty though, because it was about thirty
- 21:38miles from where they were at, just taunting him. Yes, he's poor
- 21:41fellow. Now, with Teresa's phone having been in Tuscaloosa where Scott was,
- 21:49there are new questions about his life. Police find out from family members that
- 21:53a woman came by and picked up the boys the day after the murder.
- 21:59And now this was was net to help out Scott. She was supposedly a
- 22:02friend of Scott's, so police track her down and now police are surprised to
- 22:07find out that this is actually Scott's girlfriend. Now, they had been dating
- 22:11for sometime, she said, and she had been around as children before.
- 22:17Kelsey just thought that she was a family friend. The girlfriend had no idea
- 22:22Scott was still married, and he told her that him and Theresa were separated
- 22:26and that they were in a process of getting a divorce. How many men
- 22:30have told this lie to women? Ladies? If they're could say they're getting
- 22:34divorced, say, how do you to see some papers? Okay, let
- 22:38me call and talk to this ex wife of yours or that supposedly let's see,
- 22:42Well they're getting a divorce happen? Theresa wasn't aware there's no papers.
- 22:49No, But I'm saying I wouldn't. I wouldn't date a guy who was
- 22:52like getting a divorce. You'd better be divorced, especially if someone who who
- 22:59was married to a woman and cheating on her, they got divorced and then
- 23:00they remarried after a couple of years. You better make sure that thing is
- 23:04signed, still delivered. Before he started dating him. Well, shouldn't know
- 23:07that anyways. Anyways, So the girlfriend had no idea that Scott was still
- 23:12married, like I was telling you anyway. The police believed the woman because
- 23:18she seemed very distraught over the news that Scott was still very much a married
- 23:22man. Now, when Teresa's family found out, they were not surprised based
- 23:27on his past indiscretions. The girlfriend agreed to help police by recording her calls
- 23:33with Scott, and she asked if he had killed Teresa, and he insisted
- 23:38that he did not. They were suspicious of Scott, but they had no
- 23:42evidence that he was involved with Teresa's murder. Yeah, he had his alibi.
- 23:45He was definitely at work during this time, Like, there's no questions
- 23:48about that. He does have this shady situation with the girlfriend and the telephone
- 23:55the girlfriends, Yeah, the telephone thing, But again, how would he
- 23:59was at work. He obviously received the phone call on his phone, like
- 24:03it went out to him. So yeah, there's not much they can go
- 24:07on by this, but just say, well, he's just kind of a
- 24:10shitty person who was cheating on his wife. But you can't really he's now
- 24:14dead, but you can't arrest somebody for being a bad person person, can
- 24:22you I've heard I've seen cases where the ex wife sues the mistress for damages.
- 24:30Have you seen that. I've heard of it before. Yeah, they
- 24:33sue him, and I think sometimes they win. I mean there should be
- 24:37some consequences to breaking up a family, Yes, I mean the husband's obviously
- 24:44it fault too as well. I mean this is not supposedly anyway. A
- 24:51year passed with no new information. Scott was a doting dad and even showed
- 24:55up at a memorial for Teresa and spoke to the crowd what a nice fellow.
- 25:02Suspicions loomed over him, but he seemed to have the support of the
- 25:04community, his children and friends. Teresa's family was still very suspicious of him,
- 25:11but they didn't They weren't running around gospel and about it. They kind
- 25:14of kept all that to themselves. Well, they also don't want to lose
- 25:15access to the children because he's their father. And the children. Yeah,
- 25:21the children were real, you know, really they loved their dad. He
- 25:25was never like a bad father or whatever. He was just a crappy husband.
- 25:29But he could have cut off all communications with the children to the family
- 25:34if they were saying like, I think he's had something to do with this.
- 25:38Now, finally some new information came to police. Two men were sitting
- 25:42in a bar and began telling someone a story of how they were trying to
- 25:45kill a rattlesnake out on a dirt road. This is so Alabama. I
- 25:48can't even This is so southern. This is this is like the South summed
- 25:53up. So they was gonna barbecue it. Yeah, we just had to
- 25:56kidd it. So they're out on this dirt road. There's this rattlesnake.
- 25:59They're going to kill it. Now, this is around the time that Teresa
- 26:03was killed, and the road was not too far from where Teresa had been
- 26:06murdered. So they're on a dirt road not too far away. They had
- 26:10nothing on them to kill the snake, and that's when a friend of theirs
- 26:12pulled up. Now, this friend had a gun on them, of course,
- 26:15I mean, it's not it's not out of the norm. What was
- 26:18out of the norm was the gun was in a ziploc bag and she handed
- 26:22them the gun still in the baggy to kill the snake, which is strange
- 26:26because that's not how you store a gun. Now, police, when police
- 26:32spoke to the man that told the story. He told him that the woman's
- 26:33name that gave them the gun was named Kim Benyon. Shut up now,
- 26:38I just want to say that the Kim Benyon, that's her real name,
- 26:41but she also goes by Don Lavender. And I know right whenever they said
- 26:48that I was watching I think it was a date line episode maybe that I
- 26:52was watching with this, and they said her name was Don Lavender. They
- 26:56used her name Don Lavender that she went by. They didn't use Kim Benion.
- 27:00I found that in the court records, but so Don Lavender when they
- 27:04said it, I was like, there's no way this is that bitch's real
- 27:07name. And it was not Don Lavender. It sounds like Don's dish soap
- 27:12in the must have just really like seen a bottle at the Dollar General and
- 27:17was like, I'm gonna go by Dawn Lavender anyway, So this is Kim
- 27:22Minion. Well, this stands out to police. Kim was that friend that
- 27:25was supposed to meet Teresa that day that she was murdered, the one that
- 27:29was going to go shopping with her, and said she was so concerned about
- 27:30her friend. Now with this new information, they looked more into Kim's story
- 27:34to see if there's any holes in that. Oh, there's some holes in
- 27:37Kim. Yeah, Stuart, what don't be disgusting? What's wrong with you?
- 27:42Whats wrong with you? Don Lavender, She's definitely open for some fun.
- 27:53Now, Kim had originally told the police that she had called Teresa that
- 27:56morning, so they subpoenaed her phone records and found out that she made the
- 28:00call near where Teresa had been murdered. Now, this was the only evidence
- 28:07they had, and they didn't even know why she would want to kill Teresa
- 28:10to begin with. And I'm sure Moundville's pretty small in terms of cell towers.
- 28:14It might ping off, so I don't even know how much how close
- 28:18she would have lived. So it's not that's not a lot of evidence,
- 28:19but it is something too. Yeah, that's something that they're looking at.
- 28:22Yeah, so they went ahead. They made an arrest on top of the
- 28:26gun situation with the ziplock, which just went at it a little strange,
- 28:29and the fact that her she named herself Dawn Lavender, which is so stupid.
- 28:33So anyway, the police went ahead made an arrest, picking up Kim
- 28:37from her work on June eleven at twenty ten, telling her that she was
- 28:41under the arrest, under arrest, under the arrest, under the arrest for
- 28:45the murder of Teresa. Now, they had Kim and custody, but really
- 28:48had no physical evidence. But they also made another arrest that day, and
- 28:52that was Scott Mayfield. While they were learning this information about Kim, they
- 28:57also found out from some new fellows some information about Scott. Now, a
- 29:03couple of different men came forward and told police that Scott had asked them to
- 29:07kill his wife. One of them he offered a whop in five hundred dollars.
- 29:11You know what, there's one thing to be a murderer, you know,
- 29:17it's a whole other thing to be that cheap. This is ridiculous.
- 29:18Yeah, five hundred dollars. You can't even get a good flat screen TV
- 29:22these days for that kind of No. Well, I mean even back then
- 29:25in twenty ten, you probably couldn't even go to take your kids to Disney
- 29:27World for that much. Hung up on this Disney World thing, ain't you.
- 29:30It's what. It's very expensive. It's ridiculous. They do not limit
- 29:37the amount of people that go into Disney World for the price of the ticket.
- 29:40They do not. They do not. Now one of the men told
- 29:42him, him being Scott, to get a divorce. The other one said
- 29:48that he would do it just to try to scam the money out of Scott,
- 29:51but he had no intention of going through with the murderer. So the
- 29:55one guy's just like, dude, I'll do it. No. The one
- 29:57guy that's like, get a divorce, like Scott, come on, man,
- 30:02stop asking people to kill your wife. Like, how is this like
- 30:03a casual conversation that he's having with multiple people? Like how low does he
- 30:08think? How terrible does he think men are just in general, that they're
- 30:11I guess he thinks they're all like him, that they're just like hey,
- 30:15yeah, well, I mean that he thinks just all these random men that
- 30:18he works with, they're just gonna be on board with like killing his wife,
- 30:22you kill mine, I'll kill your It's like what what what? I
- 30:30don't even know what that's from or anything. I was thinking more of a
- 30:33of a classical of strangers on a train where they meet each other and they
- 30:40both agree to kill each other's uh significant others. Yes, anyways, Yes,
- 30:47I just thought it was funny the one guy telling him, like,
- 30:48get a divorce, Like, that's the best advice he could give him,
- 30:52Just get a divorce pretty much. Now, there were still no solid evidence
- 30:56against Scott or Kim, so they decided to set up a sting operation.
- 31:02Now Kim had a cell mate, and Kim had been talking to her,
- 31:06her Sally about the murder. Kim's a chatty cathy don Lavender loves to talk.
- 31:12Well. The cellmate agreed to help record don Lavender in turn for a
- 31:18good word to the judge about her helping out with it. They wired up
- 31:23to Sally and waited for Kim to talk, and boy did she talk.
- 31:29Yep, she loves to talk about this. I mean I would be norm
- 31:32about talking about this in jail. I mean, Jesus Christ, there's no
- 31:37code anymore among criminals. There's someone will snitch on you in a heartbeat.
- 31:40There never was a code among criminal Oh is that there's not a there's no
- 31:45code among criminals. There's no honor among these. Oh okay, that's so
- 31:48yum. Yeah, the witch caller. I don't think in the Moundville,
- 31:53Alabama prison either, there's a bunch of snitches get stitches. These are all
- 31:57like pretty soft itches that her just gonna turn. It's probably said jail.
- 32:02I don't think there's a present there, Okay, well whatever. Anyways,
- 32:07I don't think there's a bunch of hardened criminals at the Moundville, Alabama jail
- 32:10that are going to be like, oh yeah, I don't. I wouldn't
- 32:13do anything because I you better be careful. They might track you down upside
- 32:15about what you said about him. Now. On the recording, Kim starts
- 32:20off by explaining why she decided to kill Teresa so early, like early,
- 32:24like during the day, like it was early in the morning. Kim said
- 32:29she did not want to take any more vacation days, so she needed to
- 32:31do it early in the morning. You gotta get that murder in so you
- 32:35can make it on your shifts. You don't waste any more of your days
- 32:37off. No, you can't be blowing PTO just to go kill a friend.
- 32:42This she's terrible. I mean it's either that or she's got to wait
- 32:45till the weekend. Yeah. I think she didn't have an element and it
- 32:47might be more one of the kids might become it would be a whole more
- 32:52so. She calls Teresa around seven am and told her that she had car
- 32:54trouble and asked if she could come pick her up. Well, Teresa,
- 32:58being the good friend, said of course and headed out to meet Kim.
- 33:01Teresa pulled down the dirt road where Kim was waiting. She had a gun
- 33:06in the back of her like stored in the back of her pants, so
- 33:07Teresa didn't see anything when she approached it. And why would she expect.
- 33:12I mean, you're going to help your friend out that you go shopping with,
- 33:16like, I'm not gonna whip out a gun and like shoot you.
- 33:20So when Teresa pulled up and rolled down the window, even if I saw
- 33:22my friends stand there with a gun, I wouldn't be like, oh,
- 33:24she's coming to shoot me. I mean I'd be like, what are we
- 33:27doing? Are you worried about something chasing you? So Stewart stopped looking at
- 33:32me like that, if you don't want to be here, then just go
- 33:36okay, all right. So when Teresa pulled up and rolled down the window,
- 33:42Kim pulled the gun out and shot her in the head. She said
- 33:45she was bleeding profusely. She put her hand on her neck and felt and
- 33:49there was she still had like a pulse, Kim said. She then opened
- 33:52the door and put the car in neutral so it would crash into the trees
- 33:57ahead of like ahead of her car. She then took off, leaving her
- 34:00friend to bleed to death. She was hoping that the trees would hide the
- 34:04vehicle for a while, which she's also a dumbass, because if you see
- 34:07the crime scene photos, it's a dirt road and a car sitting at the
- 34:12end, and just the little front part of the car is in the trees,
- 34:15like it's It's not like the cold car was just velvet with the woods
- 34:19or something. I expect more from someone with the lavender. Yeah. Well,
- 34:25Kim continued to talk to herself mate, saying that she was a cold
- 34:30blooded killer, but on the stands like words, this is old Dawn's words,
- 34:36oh Kim. But on the stand she would have to lie and act
- 34:40like innocent little Kimmy. Kim even confessed to trying to kill Teresa on an
- 34:45earlier occasion. One night, they had gone to a casino together and Teresa
- 34:50had been dealing with her anxiety, so Kim offered her some xanax. Well,
- 34:53it was not exactly xanax, it was oxycotton. She also crushed them
- 34:59up and put it in Teresa's drink and Kim said the bitch wouldn't die.
- 35:05She woke up almost two days later. Yeah, and the family. Actually
- 35:08the daughter remembered this story and she thought it was so weird that her mom.
- 35:15Her mom wasn't like a big drink or anything like that and didn't take
- 35:17anything, so it really knocked her out. She said she was in her
- 35:21room for like two days sleeping. This off like she almost died from this.
- 35:27It was bad. While she realized she almost died after they told her,
- 35:30after the confession of what it was actually put into her drink. Yeah,
- 35:36they just thought her the mom or Teresa told the family. She said
- 35:40she was like coherent enough, and she said that Kim Dawn I know why
- 35:46she was about a Don Lavendar because Kim Bunyon sounds like Kim Bunyan. And
- 35:51I'm sure she got made fun of quite a bit when she was a child,
- 35:53but which caused her to be this terrible person today. But yeah,
- 35:59as they said that she like you, she admitted, I didn't make fun
- 36:01of anybody. Stewart, why are you looking at me like that? I'm
- 36:06I don't even want to interact with people. I would never go to the
- 36:08make fun of people that would require me to interact with them. I just
- 36:12want to be left alone. So when I was a child, and apparently
- 36:16stay away from the lady at the Hardies. But yeah, they her mom,
- 36:20they did. She did say she was with it enough when she followed
- 36:23when she got home to say that kim had given her her xanex xan x
- 36:28xan x x x x and uh so they didn't think anything of it.
- 36:35They just thought it just kind of threw her off, her whole system off,
- 36:37and she slept for those two days. But yeah, it was.
- 36:42She was probably close to being dead and didn't even realize it. Now.
- 36:45When the seal Maid asked what Kimmy slashed on why she did it, she
- 36:51said that she was a hitman. She said that Scott had hired these words
- 36:54again, this is all her words, Like she's very proud of this,
- 36:57Like she's a hardcore's part criminal. Yes, that know that she's in here.
- 37:02Tell she's just so stupid, she's really just dumb. Yeah, she
- 37:06deserves to go to jail anyway. She told the Sally that Scott had hired
- 37:10her for about fifteen to twenty thousand dollars didn't even have a settled price,
- 37:15and he Now, I mean it's better than the five hundred dollars he offer
- 37:20the other guy. You know, he's never gonna go. He's not gonna
- 37:22he's gonna give you fifteen. He's not even gonna give you if he did
- 37:25give you the money, he's not going to go. There's not a rain.
- 37:29She's not be like, you did a really good job. Let me
- 37:30give you a tip. Take it to seven five thousand dollars tip. Yeah,
- 37:35Now, she said that when she had completed the hit, she took
- 37:37Teresa's cell phone and drove to Tuscaloosa, where she called Scott and said nothing
- 37:43for a minute or two, and then she hung up. Now this was
- 37:45her confirmation to him that the job was complete. Why would she drive away
- 37:52from the crime scene, or why would she drive that way? Why wouldn't
- 37:55she drive where she thought Teresa might go for an errand? Or because the
- 38:00bitch is talking in jail. She's not that bright. She doesn't know about
- 38:02pinging on cell phone towers. Obviously. Anyway, Scott said he would pay
- 38:07her the money from her life insurance, but he never did. No,
- 38:14of course, not cheap cheap bastard wanted to pay five hundred dollars originally,
- 38:20and he's going to fork over fifteen. Gee's no. So anyway, with
- 38:24this confession, they were able to move forward with preparing for trial, but
- 38:29before that could happen, both Kim and Scott decided to cop some plea deals.
- 38:34On May nineteen, twenty eleven, they both played guilty to murder and
- 38:37attempted murder. Now they were both sentenced to two consecutive life sentences with the
- 38:45possibility of parole. So I take everything back I said about the name Dawn
- 38:49Lavender. I think it's a great name. I don't think Kim Bunyon sounds
- 38:52like Kim Bunyan. I mean it's been what twelve years now, you think
- 38:57she's up for parole. I think she's I think I had checked on him.
- 39:00They're still behind bars now. Just to follow up, they also arrested
- 39:06that man that said he would kill Teresa but never did. His name was
- 39:09Willie Underwood, and they charged him with conspiracy to commit murder and he was
- 39:14convicted of that. So don't be playing around. Don't be like, oh,
- 39:16I'm just gonna how do we know that he really did that or did
- 39:22he really have intended like you're gonna can't play around with saying you're gonna kill
- 39:25somebody because the police don't know if you're actually meant to do it you just
- 39:30didn't have a chance and didn't fall through, or if you were really just
- 39:31screwing with the Scott guy. Yeah, he probably thought he was just going
- 39:36to tell police. Oh yeah, I just told him I would so i'd
- 39:37get the money. And they're like, it's not funny. Willie, come
- 39:42with us, will Yeah, I come with us, Willie. So yeah,
- 39:45so they figured out who did all this stuff? So who did it
- 39:49all? Scott Kim's an idiot? Yep, Scott's a terrible person. Willie
- 39:55should have just kept his damn yeh should have had used the advice the other
- 40:00guy said, just just get a divorced Scott. Okay, all right,
- 40:05but okay, well that's our episode for this week. That's it. That's
- 40:08it. Okay, we're not gonna do it. Y'all need Jesus because we're
- 40:13running late on this and I'm tired. So and Caros, I'm prepared,
- 40:17No, you're unprepared still, and so I would have to wait for you
- 40:22to find one and then we'd have to do it and I'm tired. No
- 40:23you don't. You just said, oh, which one did I have?
- 40:25You just I just ask you when we paused a wall go, I said,
- 40:29do you have one? And you said what was that one I was
- 40:31telling you about? And then I was like, no, never mind,
- 40:34we're not doing this, so I'll let you do. Jess, I'll let
- 40:37you do too, I'll let you fall. Who was that singer that something
- 40:40about thunder? Or who is that singer James Brown? Or who are we
- 40:46doing what about? And I interrupted you and said it was stupid? Oh
- 40:52do you remember that one? How the hell are you going to confuse George
- 40:54Jones and James Brown. I don't even know. I just contrary with what
- 40:59I just came up with the name Stewart. I don't know. I don't
- 41:00even know where the name James Brown is. I don't even know who that
- 41:04is. I just it just came in my head. Okay, Wow,
- 41:08we're gonna get something anyway. I don't remember. I don't even know who
- 41:13James Brown is or George Jones. I don't know who these people are.
- 41:17So maybe you can follow up on that. That guy George straight the guy
- 41:23that sang thunder rolls, Stewart, don't start with me. Okay, he
- 41:28does this all the time. He sits there and puts Garth Brooks songs and
- 41:34says they're George Straight songs or vice versa, even though he knows because I
- 41:37dragged him to a Garth Brooks concert which was really good. But all right,
- 41:43so well, well let's do do two. Y'all need Jesus is or
- 41:46something. I don't know, probably not, but I'll just tell him that
- 41:50right now so we can be Well, I'm gonna have to do two.
- 41:52If I do the one that you sent me the other day, well we
- 41:54can spread them out. No, that one was for a very specific episode
- 41:58anyways. All right, so oh that one that I sent you, I
- 42:00did send you one. Yeah, all right, well thank you. If
- 42:05you're still here, we appreciate it. Check us out and the show notes
- 42:09all the stuff, and I guess we will see you next time. Bye,
- 42:13everyone, say bye stew Bye stew Don't you know it's by life to
- 42:21be super staicious, by nothing else. It's working, it's really learning,
- 42:31say all, it's worry. I can't
