Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Everybody, Welcome into the Irish Theaters podcast as we are
- 0:08Speaker 1: on the cut of the second week of the NFL
- 0:10Speaker 1: season for the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is the podcast for
- 0:13Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Steelers fans, eminently from the Island of Ireland on Beyond.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Mike I, mquid, Jimmy English, Dave All McKee, Jimmy. First off,
- 0:21Speaker 1: a big locking to you man week two of Steelers football.
- 0:24Speaker 1: It feels like we were just talking recapping Week one
- 0:26Speaker 1: five minutes ago. Man, isn't it scary how fast this
- 0:29Speaker 1: season truly goes?
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy, Nick, Like you say, Week one is
- 0:35Speaker 2: in the rear view mirror already after us waiting so
- 0:37Speaker 2: long for it to come around, and now we're talking
- 0:39Speaker 2: about week two. Second week on the road in a
- 0:43Speaker 2: row for the Steelers up a mile high in Denver.
- 0:45Speaker 2: But back to back away games never easy, especially with
- 0:50Speaker 2: the thin air up there in Denver. So it's going
- 0:53Speaker 2: to be interesting to see what transpires on Sunday evening
- 0:57Speaker 2: nine o'clock, half nine kickoff time here and obviously, but no, look,
- 1:01Speaker 2: generally I have I'm optimistic about what lies ahead. I think,
- 1:05Speaker 2: you know, we know what the defense is going to
- 1:07Speaker 2: do we know what special teams is going to do
- 1:09Speaker 2: and are capable of. I think it's just the question,
- 1:12Speaker 2: now what can the offense do? Can the offense put
- 1:14Speaker 2: points on the board, because as of right now, that's
- 1:17Speaker 2: the only missing piece as far as I can tell.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So excited for we two of Steeters football.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I can't wait. It's gonna be great dialogue. Obviously very
- 1:28Speaker 1: busy these days with football around here in Troon, but
- 1:30Speaker 1: the real football this weekend we're back on the road
- 1:34Speaker 1: game in the Male High City. Just before we talk
- 1:36Speaker 1: about that, it doesn't feel like this season's flying already.
- 1:39Speaker 1: We're a few weeks out from the watch party we're
- 1:41Speaker 1: going to talk about in the wi second. But it's
- 1:43Speaker 1: just great to have football back, man, isn't it.
- 1:46Speaker 3: It's great Mike switching Matt Hatching from Malachi or to
- 1:49Speaker 3: Mike Tomlin on this occasion. But yeah, no week one
- 1:53Speaker 3: down in the books and we want to know and
- 1:56Speaker 3: I think that's exactly where every team wants to be.
- 1:58Speaker 3: And I'm just sort of echo everything Jimmy said it again.
- 2:02Speaker 3: It's good to have you know, Staters football back. And
- 2:05Speaker 3: of course you know, Danver is not the easiest place
- 2:07Speaker 3: in the world to go to get a victory, but
- 2:09Speaker 3: about every hope and anticipation that is going to happen,
- 2:12Speaker 3: So really looking forward to the breaking the demmy lots
- 2:15Speaker 3: and yeah, here we go.
- 2:17Speaker 1: We have a big watch party taking place in Crew
- 2:21Speaker 1: Park and I guess two weeks time the end of
- 2:23Speaker 1: September the Staels facing the Colts Steelers on the road
- 2:26Speaker 1: that will end up being the third away game in
- 2:28Speaker 1: four weeks. So good to get some of these games
- 2:30Speaker 1: chalked off before we get a lot of home games
- 2:32Speaker 1: on the bounce. And Jimmy and I know that fans
- 2:35Speaker 1: can check out the staters social channels for an opportunity
- 2:37Speaker 1: to purchase tickets in the end zone, which is an
- 2:40Speaker 1: option for fans that missed out in the general seale.
- 2:43Speaker 1: One hundred tickets called of course can be a great
- 2:45Speaker 1: night and there's extra tickets there for a different experience
- 2:47Speaker 1: to check it out, folks. Jimmy, would you like to
- 2:50Speaker 1: tell everybody who this first guess is, because if it
- 2:52Speaker 1: seems to be like obviously we had great crack last year,
- 2:54Speaker 1: we had some Antonio and we had Alan over, but
- 2:57Speaker 1: great to see different faces come over this year on
- 2:59Speaker 1: this has been annoins is just if you're a Steelers fan,
- 3:03Speaker 1: you'll be buzzing to here.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I think if you're a Steelers fan like myself, Michael
- 3:08Speaker 2: of a certain vintage, who's been watching the team now
- 3:11Speaker 2: for many, many years, he would have been pleasantly surprised
- 3:13Speaker 2: when you saw that James Farrier, the legendary inside linebacker
- 3:18Speaker 2: from the Steelers of many moons ago, was announced as
- 3:21Speaker 2: the guest, the special guest for the watch party. I'm
- 3:24Speaker 2: absolutely buzzing. I mean, James Farrier was a key part
- 3:27Speaker 2: of the defense that I started watching when I became
- 3:31Speaker 2: a Steelers fan, and I have fund memories of seeing
- 3:34Speaker 2: them stuffing the run up the middle. Like it's fantastic
- 3:38Speaker 2: to see that, just a player of his caliber and
- 3:40Speaker 2: pedigree coming over making I'm really interested to I'm really
- 3:44Speaker 2: looking forward to getting to talk to him about his
- 3:46Speaker 2: two Super Bowl victories against the Seahawks and the Cardinals.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I think it's just it's he's one of those he
- 3:52Speaker 2: was part of, you know that the golden hero of
- 3:55Speaker 2: Steelers I think in the in the kind of mid
- 3:57Speaker 2: to late two thousands. So look, it's going to be
- 4:00Speaker 2: it's gonna be fantastic and yeah, kaw Wait can not
- 4:03Speaker 2: come fast enough, to be honest with you. At four
- 4:06Speaker 2: o'clock and crow Park. We'll see all there.
- 4:08Speaker 1: When you have a guy come over that was a
- 4:10Speaker 1: stailer for you know, almost ten years of two times
- 4:12Speaker 1: super Bowl champion, two time Pro bowler, he's on the
- 4:15Speaker 1: whole of honor and so many other accolades, a guy
- 4:19Speaker 1: that is synonymous with a generation of NFL fans. It
- 4:22Speaker 1: really does sum up the fact that this is not
- 4:24Speaker 1: just the watch party. They're bringing over some of the
- 4:26Speaker 1: big guns, and it's really cool to see. Man, there's
- 4:28Speaker 1: not another big name coming to Dublin.
- 4:30Speaker 3: It is like just as Jimmy said there, it's maybe
- 4:33Speaker 3: a better choice for the vintage Steelers sons, you know
- 4:35Speaker 3: as a player. You know he played just before the
- 4:38Speaker 3: time I started following Steelers. But he's a player. I've
- 4:41Speaker 3: heard great tales about it. I'm really looking forward to
- 4:43Speaker 3: getting Hopefully it made him in person. You know, he's drafted.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Be it for overall about New York Jats in nineteen
- 4:48Speaker 3: ninety seven, the same year I was born. May sorry
- 4:51Speaker 3: for making you feel old, James, if you are listening,
- 4:54Speaker 3: but the two times Super Bowl champion both times with
- 4:56Speaker 3: the Steelers of course, and you know, a first time
- 4:58Speaker 3: All Pro two thousand and four, obviously a member of
- 5:00Speaker 3: the Steelers Hall of Honor. So great choice, great great
- 5:03Speaker 3: guest to have represent at the Steelers internationally, and looking
- 5:06Speaker 3: forward to getting a chat with him hopefully and maybe
- 5:08Speaker 3: a wee photograph of He's not too busy. So when
- 5:10Speaker 3: I heard the news, I was just as buzzing, you
- 5:12Speaker 3: know as Jimmy. And then yeah, I'm counting then the
- 5:14Speaker 3: days in the RS at this rate as well. So
- 5:16Speaker 3: can't wait.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I can't wait to hear the stories he has about
- 5:19Speaker 2: being part of that defense. I mean, you think, obviously
- 5:22Speaker 2: our defense now with the Lisa cam Hayward and TJ
- 5:25Speaker 2: and Minka, that is, that is we're in the middle
- 5:28Speaker 2: of a legendary Steeters defense right now. I think, without
- 5:30Speaker 2: without realizing it, like when we look back in ten
- 5:33Speaker 2: or fifteen years time, we will only not be able
- 5:37Speaker 2: to really acknowledge then. I think, you know how great
- 5:40Speaker 2: this defense was, but that the defense back then was
- 5:43Speaker 2: just different than me and Troy Polamalo, Casey Hampton, James Harrison.
- 5:47Speaker 2: It's just and like you say, Dave, at a certain
- 5:51Speaker 2: vintage for Steelers fan, will we'll be able to really
- 5:55Speaker 2: reminisce when James Barrier walks in. I think up to
- 5:57Speaker 2: the room on the twenty eighth, So excellent. It's with
- 6:00Speaker 2: the Steeters. I think a lot of the older Steeters
- 6:03Speaker 2: fans in the room, like myself and Nick, will be
- 6:05Speaker 2: able to appreciate it more.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Perhaps thirty Fleet is not old. Oh my no, no,
- 6:10Speaker 1: I mean, look I get it, Like I mean, I
- 6:12Speaker 1: started watching the NFL in oy it and then he
- 6:15Speaker 1: was obviously playing around that time, and I guess that
- 6:17Speaker 1: is a generation. We are still young. You're still young.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I have to grasp ond of this year. I like,
- 6:24Speaker 1: look like we will watch the space to see if
- 6:26Speaker 1: the jenny of our announcements. But I'm just yet really
- 6:27Speaker 1: really happy so far, and it's great to see big
- 6:31Speaker 1: game against the Bronco's coming up this weekend. It is
- 6:33Speaker 1: on NFL Game Pass on the Zone if you're living
- 6:36Speaker 1: in Ireland or a crosser of the game itself if
- 6:38Speaker 1: you want to listen to is on OCB Sports Radio
- 6:41Speaker 1: as well, and great to have another staters game able
- 6:44Speaker 1: to watch it this weekend. Lads, Big game in the
- 6:46Speaker 1: Male high just before we hear from coach Tomlin, what's
- 6:49Speaker 1: your key to the game, lads, Jimmy, if it is
- 6:51Speaker 1: there a key to the game outside of the whole
- 6:52Speaker 1: quarterback discussion that we've been having that you want to
- 6:55Speaker 1: see this weekend, I.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Think, honestly, all right, defense should have no problem with
- 7:01Speaker 2: with Boone Knicks. You know he was he was definitely
- 7:04Speaker 2: one of the better quarterbacks to come out of college.
- 7:07Speaker 2: But we saw how he struggled last weekend against the Seahawks. Potentially,
- 7:12Speaker 2: I'm not sure who. I'm not entirely sure who the
- 7:14Speaker 2: Broncos were playing last weekend, but I know that he
- 7:16Speaker 2: didn't have Yes, it didn't have the best of games.
- 7:21Speaker 2: So I think the Broncos are going to rely heavily
- 7:23Speaker 2: on their run game. So hopefully we do a better
- 7:27Speaker 2: job of bottling up Javonte Williams than we did against
- 7:29Speaker 2: b John Robinson. And then for our offense, I think
- 7:33Speaker 2: the key is going to be shutting down Alex Singleton,
- 7:36Speaker 2: the outstanding linebackers they have there. He had a couple
- 7:39Speaker 2: of easy, easy picks there on the weekend, So look,
- 7:44Speaker 2: it's going to be It's gonna be interesting to see
- 7:45Speaker 2: what develops. But I think more of the same. I
- 7:48Speaker 2: think for our defense and special teams, and like I
- 7:51Speaker 2: said at the start of the show, offense just needs
- 7:53Speaker 2: to show up. We saw the great connection that Justin
- 7:56Speaker 2: Fields has developed with George Pickens. He coupled a massive
- 7:59Speaker 2: you know, cluch passes there last sun. They're gone, so
- 8:02Speaker 2: more at that. Maybe get the running game going a
- 8:05Speaker 2: bit more. And let's just put points on the board
- 8:08Speaker 2: that aren't field goals. Please, dear guard, let's score some
- 8:10Speaker 2: touchdowns this weekend. I can't sit through another three hours
- 8:13Speaker 2: of field goals. Make everyally can.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Love field goals. I think it's an Irish thing. I
- 8:17Speaker 1: don't know, like I just love kicking the ball, But
- 8:19Speaker 1: I agree, Yeah, I think we want to see the
- 8:20Speaker 1: first touch out of the years we again, at least
- 8:22Speaker 1: and I get there, I will say that bug just
- 8:24Speaker 1: just flying on what Jimmy said there. It's obviously since
- 8:27Speaker 1: the Bronco's won a Super Bowl in twenty fifteen twenty
- 8:29Speaker 1: sixteen against the Panthers, they have already been in a
- 8:33Speaker 1: sort of a cusp of transition with the quarterback position,
- 8:36Speaker 1: and they haven't really seen the hit gold they had
- 8:38Speaker 1: brock oswellder he went and there's been years there where.
- 8:40Speaker 1: There's been guys that have come in and come out
- 8:42Speaker 1: and it hasn't worked. But in terms of what Jimmy
- 8:44Speaker 1: says in terms of stopping the next dogg, there is
- 8:49Speaker 1: from people that I've spoke to anyway, like meets and
- 8:51Speaker 1: stuff like, there's a real optimism for this guy. And
- 8:54Speaker 1: I know he didn't have the start of the season
- 8:56Speaker 1: that we all sort of expected. Their fully out and
- 8:58Speaker 1: had a better game last week in Seattle. You got
- 9:00Speaker 1: the twelves in the crowd obviously post Pete carle Era Dobug,
- 9:03Speaker 1: but as good as we played last week. This is
- 9:07Speaker 1: a home opener for the Broncos. They are going to
- 9:09Speaker 1: be on it. They like because they genuinely believe this
- 9:12Speaker 1: guy is the long term position of quarterback for them.
- 9:14Speaker 1: So I think it's going to be difficult, but you
- 9:16Speaker 1: would expect in my key of the game as a
- 9:18Speaker 1: bit what Jimmy said there, it's it's stop bone next.
- 9:20Speaker 1: It's take that confidence away very early. If I'm bone
- 9:23Speaker 1: next and I'm looking at guys like TJ, what run
- 9:24Speaker 1: on me, I'm I'm polican stream up do.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Yeah, you're you're spot on. It's it's uh, you w know,
- 9:31Speaker 3: with Bone next obviously with him being a first round
- 9:33Speaker 3: draft pick. You know, I looked at the start start
- 9:35Speaker 3: line last weekend, Michael twenty six for forty two one
- 9:38Speaker 3: hundred and thirty eight yards and two in I MTS.
- 9:40Speaker 3: You know, only Deshaun Watson and Matt Stafford had more
- 9:42Speaker 3: possive attamps to the next in week one, So that
- 9:45Speaker 3: su yes to me. There's a lot of confidence in him.
- 9:47Speaker 3: You know, let's hope the defense can put a stay
- 9:48Speaker 3: in that confidence. You know, for me, I'm looking for
- 9:50Speaker 3: improvement offense for ly, but the defense's road could be
- 9:52Speaker 3: even more crucial.
- 9:53Speaker 4: You know.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Just for the record, Justin Vader's best game as a
- 9:56Speaker 3: pro so far was against Danver. He three for three
- 9:59Speaker 3: hundred thirty five yards four touchdowns. So were performance like
- 10:02Speaker 3: that that should be enough to get the job done.
- 10:05Speaker 3: And I know we did mention last week in the pod.
- 10:07Speaker 3: You know, we do want to see obviously a more
- 10:09Speaker 3: a factive offensive game in terms of contributing to the win.
- 10:12Speaker 3: But Danver is one of the more difficult places to
- 10:14Speaker 3: go in the league. And Mike Tomlin's record, you know,
- 10:16Speaker 3: four and five against the Broncos one of the worst
- 10:18Speaker 3: in the NFL in terms of his record, and then
- 10:21Speaker 3: one three actually against Sean Payton. So hopefully a boy
- 10:23Speaker 3: a lot of averages. We're going to claw some of
- 10:25Speaker 3: that back and come out with a win. But key's
- 10:28Speaker 3: the victory for me. How much pressure we're ben getting bonecks.
- 10:30Speaker 3: We see that the defense last year, given experience head
- 10:33Speaker 3: Kirk Cousins health. So let's hope we can continue that
- 10:35Speaker 3: good trend and the fans being forced, you know, a
- 10:38Speaker 3: young rookie into some mistakes and hopefully you know, will
- 10:42Speaker 3: come out with a win enough the main things. So
- 10:44Speaker 3: that's that's what I yam.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Lookas this weekend, time will tell, Time will tell. Let's
- 10:49Speaker 1: hear from coach Tomlin ahead of this game this weekend
- 10:52Speaker 1: in the Mile High City.
- 10:54Speaker 4: The same really for us. You know, I just visited
- 10:58Speaker 4: with him. He feels better today than he did over
- 11:03Speaker 4: the weekend, and so what that means, I don't know.
- 11:05Speaker 4: As we sit here today, I know that we're going
- 11:08Speaker 4: to take the same approach that we take with a
- 11:10Speaker 4: lot of people in terms of injury. We'll first start
- 11:14Speaker 4: with his participation and his level of participation, his quality
- 11:18Speaker 4: of participation. Over the course of the week. We'll be
- 11:21Speaker 4: analyzing whether he's capable of protecting himself, whether he's capable
- 11:26Speaker 4: of being productive. When we get to those you know,
- 11:30Speaker 4: when we get to those points, that's when we'll ponder
- 11:33Speaker 4: his inclusion or not. And when that happens will probably
- 11:37Speaker 4: be a component of that equation. But as I sit
- 11:40Speaker 4: here today, we're preparing as if Justin is going to
- 11:43Speaker 4: be our quarterback. I think that's the appropriate way to
- 11:46Speaker 4: do it. Speculation is a waste of time. Russell's heard,
- 11:50Speaker 4: he's not available to us, and so, as you guys know,
- 11:53Speaker 4: as a general practice, man I focus by energy on
- 11:55Speaker 4: those that are available in their readiness. Just saw Justin
- 12:01Speaker 4: he just finished a good workout here today, and excited
- 12:04Speaker 4: about maybe going through a complete week with him in
- 12:08Speaker 4: terms of the preparation process. But again, we'll take it
- 12:11Speaker 4: day by day. Russ is not scheduled to work in
- 12:14Speaker 4: totality tomorrow to what degree I do not know, and
- 12:17Speaker 4: then we'll play it by ear from there based on
- 12:20Speaker 4: the results and the things that we see in terms
- 12:23Speaker 4: of whether or not we consider him and to what
- 12:26Speaker 4: degree we consider him. Now on to Denver. The first
- 12:31Speaker 4: thing that I think about when I think about going
- 12:32Speaker 4: to Denver is the environment, particularly at this portion of
- 12:36Speaker 4: the season. It is a hostile and challenging environment in
- 12:41Speaker 4: a lot of ways, from a crowd noise perspective, from
- 12:44Speaker 4: a conditioning perspective, and so you know, we can't run
- 12:48Speaker 4: from that. We got to run to that. We need
- 12:50Speaker 4: to prepare with those things in mind this week to
- 12:54Speaker 4: get ourselves in the very best position to perform from
- 12:57Speaker 4: a conditioning perspective, to work with crowd noise, particularly on
- 13:01Speaker 4: offense and in those weighty moments. We did similar things
- 13:04Speaker 4: last week in terms of preparation for Atlanta, and so
- 13:07Speaker 4: it's helpful to us to have that experience under our
- 13:11Speaker 4: belt this week as we prepare with those things in mind.
- 13:14Speaker 4: If you look at some of the things that they're
- 13:15Speaker 4: gonna do on offense, it starts first and foremost man
- 13:19Speaker 4: with coach Peyton and how he draws up the schemes
- 13:24Speaker 4: to highlight the strengths of his people. I see it,
- 13:28Speaker 4: and I see it very clearly.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Man.
- 13:30Speaker 4: He did some really awesome things in terms of bringing
- 13:32Speaker 4: the game to his young signal caller last week. He
- 13:36Speaker 4: threw a lot of passes, but he threw a lot
- 13:38Speaker 4: of quick passes. He threw some misdirection passes, he changed
- 13:41Speaker 4: the launch point. He threw some RPO passes that included
- 13:44Speaker 4: bubble screens to put him in good run pass scenarios.
- 13:49Speaker 4: Things that Bo is familiar with that you saw him
- 13:52Speaker 4: do on college tape at multiple locations. I thought he
- 13:56Speaker 4: did a really good job of incorporating the screen game
- 13:59Speaker 4: as well, staying on schedule. Got a nice division of
- 14:05Speaker 4: labor with his backs. Williams is a downhill guy. UH
- 14:10Speaker 4: three eight is a really good perimeter guy. Utilization of personnel,
- 14:15Speaker 4: He got a couple full backs and h back like
- 14:17Speaker 4: people that they utilize multiple tight ends as multiple people.
- 14:21Speaker 4: They're fresh, they're different skill sets and so forth, and
- 14:25Speaker 4: so that's challenging.
- 14:27Speaker 2: UH.
- 14:27Speaker 4: In the secondary they turned the safety position over, but
- 14:31Speaker 4: they have pat certain back And to be quite honest
- 14:34Speaker 4: with you, man, he's as good as there there is
- 14:36Speaker 4: in the game. His pedigree is extremely high, as are
- 14:39Speaker 4: his fundamentals. He's technically as sound as they come. I
- 14:44Speaker 4: was at his pro day, man, he was just as
- 14:46Speaker 4: impressive in his game ready as any corners that I
- 14:49Speaker 4: can remember in recent years. And his tape is kind
- 14:51Speaker 4: of reflective of that. And and their new their newly
- 14:57Speaker 4: renewed commitment to him in terms of long term business
- 15:00Speaker 4: is kind of reflective of that. They'll do a nice
- 15:04Speaker 4: job of changing things up. They'll play to their environment.
- 15:07Speaker 4: We better stay on schedule. If we get behind the
- 15:10Speaker 4: chains in that environment versus a guy like Vance, it's
- 15:13Speaker 4: gonna be some challenges for us, and so we better
- 15:16Speaker 4: do whatever is required to do that to stay on schedule,
- 15:19Speaker 4: to keep ourselves in manageable possession down circumstances. I thought
- 15:23Speaker 4: that that was key to possessing the ball for us
- 15:26Speaker 4: last week. We stayed in manageable third down circumstances, a
- 15:32Speaker 4: lot of short yardist ones and you're gonna win your
- 15:34Speaker 4: share of those, and so that was helpful to the
- 15:38Speaker 4: outcome of last week's game.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Coach Summon on the Irish Theaters podcast as we get
- 15:42Speaker 1: ready for the second Staters game all the year. Still
- 15:44Speaker 1: wait for dot home opener next week, but another game
- 15:48Speaker 1: on the road above sea level in the Mile Heigh
- 15:50Speaker 1: City against the Denver Broncos. Jimmy, we have a situation
- 15:53Speaker 1: where at the time of recording, we are recording pre
- 15:56Speaker 1: tnf ons. You know, we probably aren't going to get
- 15:59Speaker 1: an unserved regards the quarterback officially from the team, and
- 16:02Speaker 1: that's completely understandable because they rightfully will keep their cards
- 16:06Speaker 1: close to the chest. I say, if we hypothetically sort
- 16:08Speaker 1: of presume that Justin Fields will start this week, and
- 16:11Speaker 1: I'm happy for him he's getting this opportunity. If that
- 16:14Speaker 1: is the keyst and if it is, if it's Russell,
- 16:16Speaker 1: let's go Russell Wilson, go back into Denver. Both situations
- 16:19Speaker 1: are really interesting storylines. And I know we said already
- 16:22Speaker 1: that we want to see points and any quarterback going
- 16:25Speaker 1: there that the crowd is going to be on them.
- 16:27Speaker 1: It's going to be a really testing situation. But at
- 16:28Speaker 1: least we've got a quarterback in Justin Fields that has
- 16:31Speaker 1: experience of playing in the league in press rize situations,
- 16:34Speaker 1: in crowds, especially in Chicago, and a Super Bowl champion
- 16:37Speaker 1: in Russell Wilson, albeit he has not played well in
- 16:39Speaker 1: Denver previously.
- 16:41Speaker 2: You know, I don't think Justin Fields really did anything
- 16:43Speaker 2: wrong last week weekend, per se for the couple of
- 16:47Speaker 2: mental errors that he had with the initial stop of
- 16:51Speaker 2: the game being fumbled and then we went for the
- 16:54Speaker 2: fourth and one and what was meant to be a
- 16:55Speaker 2: quarterback sneaking whatever happened. He just telled over and couldn't
- 16:59Speaker 2: get the necessary garage. But I think in terms of
- 17:03Speaker 2: who leads the team forward from now, it's going to
- 17:06Speaker 2: be if look if Justin Field's played and plays well
- 17:09Speaker 2: this weekend, he has that good relationship, a good connection
- 17:12Speaker 2: with with with Pickings, our star receiver. I don't think
- 17:16Speaker 2: the team can really pull him after that, to be
- 17:19Speaker 2: honest with you, I mean, the last thing you want
- 17:22Speaker 2: is is flip flop and you and your starting quarterback.
- 17:25Speaker 2: And if Fields performs well and starts building a better
- 17:28Speaker 2: or port with with his receivers. We all know that
- 17:32Speaker 2: Mike Tomland likes to ride the hot hand. I don't
- 17:34Speaker 2: think he's gonna he's gonna shy away from doing that.
- 17:36Speaker 2: So it's definitely one to monitor closely. And I think
- 17:42Speaker 2: come six o'clock dollars time on Sunday, we'll all be
- 17:45Speaker 2: waiting with bait of bread to see who they announced
- 17:47Speaker 2: us the starter. So it's a it's interesting for sure,
- 17:50Speaker 2: but looks as as we said previously, whoever does go
- 17:53Speaker 2: in and whoever does get the start will wholeheartedly throw
- 17:57Speaker 2: our support behind.
- 17:59Speaker 1: On problems mat of Wordley sympathized this week that was. Look,
- 18:06Speaker 1: it's it's one of those things where we do we
- 18:07Speaker 1: do want to see points on the board this weekend,
- 18:09Speaker 1: and you're gonna begins at the Bronco's defense and a
- 18:11Speaker 1: Broncos team that will have lost a little bit of confidence.
- 18:14Speaker 1: But when you see guys like Alex Singleton, they still
- 18:17Speaker 1: have guys and they've lost Justin Simmons and he was
- 18:19Speaker 1: obviously playing against the Steelers last week. They starts of
- 18:23Speaker 1: this game. I know we said every week, but the
- 18:25Speaker 1: starts of this game is going to be key. They
- 18:26Speaker 1: need to go out there. But the Staelers need to
- 18:28Speaker 1: go out and get something on this first drive. If
- 18:30Speaker 1: they were to go out and score their first touchdown
- 18:32Speaker 1: of the season, I think that puts a marker on
- 18:33Speaker 1: the game.
- 18:34Speaker 3: On Yeah, no, it's it's just to ancklele buff of you
- 18:38Speaker 3: as have just said about the offense, It's important we
- 18:40Speaker 3: put up more than field goals this weekend. There's no
- 18:42Speaker 3: doubt about it. You need to score touchdowns if you're
- 18:43Speaker 3: gonna win in this league. And I don't see why
- 18:46Speaker 3: we can't do it. Of course, you know, Danver just
- 18:49Speaker 3: obviously doing a bit of reading on them as well.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Their third youngest team in the NFL, so they're clearly
- 18:54Speaker 3: a team just as you imagine they're a team that's
- 18:56Speaker 3: in transitioning. One thing I will say about them, pretty
- 18:59Speaker 3: decent offensive line despite PFF. You know, the ranked the
- 19:02Speaker 3: middle of the pack, you know, but I think they're
- 19:04Speaker 3: actually suffering an injury at Jar Bowls. On the other side,
- 19:06Speaker 3: you know, it's questionable. So on aside from Courtland Sudden,
- 19:08Speaker 3: they have a bit of adapt they haven't got a
- 19:10Speaker 3: lot of adapt to the receivers, so I think defensively
- 19:14Speaker 3: as well, just looking at their let's you know, see
- 19:16Speaker 3: him with the Falcons last week. Potter team a clear
- 19:19Speaker 3: threat to someone that we have to be worry of.
- 19:21Speaker 3: And just you know as Singleton, you know the linebacker
- 19:23Speaker 3: as well. But just like Atlanta last week, I don't
- 19:25Speaker 3: see a lot of star power on the defense. So
- 19:28Speaker 3: let's hope another week of practice under his belt, another
- 19:30Speaker 3: week at getting to know the playbook, we see it
- 19:32Speaker 3: much more improved. Just in face, like Jimmy said, he
- 19:35Speaker 3: didn't put a foot wrong last week. You know, there
- 19:37Speaker 3: was a couple of snaps maybe that that went wrong,
- 19:39Speaker 3: but I think he went in he got the job done. Efficiently,
- 19:42Speaker 3: and I don't think you can drop him off that So,
- 19:44Speaker 3: although I'm a bit of a sucker for I'm a
- 19:46Speaker 3: bit of a sucker for storylines, of course, but I
- 19:51Speaker 3: think Russell wilsoner Brown's game is maybe too far thrown.
- 19:54Speaker 3: So I'm happy enough for Justin veas understand of this week.
- 19:56Speaker 2: I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of more passes to
- 19:58Speaker 2: the I suppose in the middle of the field, just
- 20:02Speaker 2: spread the ball around a bit more and attack the
- 20:05Speaker 2: middle of the field if we can. I think we
- 20:07Speaker 2: need to open up. I think towards the end of
- 20:10Speaker 2: the game last weekend we saw the offense open up
- 20:12Speaker 2: a bit more, So I wouldn't mind. Hopefully Justin fields
- 20:15Speaker 2: can get into a rhythm earlier and get more comfortable
- 20:17Speaker 2: earlier and there be less of a warming up period
- 20:20Speaker 2: per se. And we'll wait and see what happens. But yeah,
- 20:24Speaker 2: I think the key to this weekend is touchdowns, plain
- 20:27Speaker 2: and simple.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Him will tell, jumpman, time will tell. Before our picks
- 20:31Speaker 1: for the game. Let's hear from George Pickens, who was
- 20:34Speaker 1: talking to the media this week ahead of the game
- 20:36Speaker 1: in Denver. George, i'llout to the matchup this week because.
- 20:41Speaker 5: I know you're a little early.
- 20:42Speaker 2: I'm sure in film study and whatnot, but I'm also
- 20:45Speaker 2: sure you know about him as a quarterback and his reputation.
- 20:47Speaker 5: What do you make it this week you go up
- 20:49Speaker 5: against him? Just be myself, to be honest, I want
- 20:52Speaker 5: to get past obtaining a cobage. So a lot of
- 20:55Speaker 5: this stuff isn't new for me. We remember a battle
- 20:57Speaker 5: for the college.
- 20:59Speaker 4: Just a good player.
- 21:01Speaker 3: It's like a lot of other players in here.
- 21:02Speaker 6: They good players.
- 21:03Speaker 5: I'm a good player. A lot of good players, aren't any.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Some folks in Denver were saying he doesn't always follow
- 21:09Speaker 1: one specific receiver, but he did last week against DK.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Do you think that's probably a you know sign what
- 21:14Speaker 2: they might do with you?
- 21:16Speaker 5: Just hope they have a you know, their plan, correct.
- 21:18Speaker 5: I don't really you know, know or care what they're
- 21:21Speaker 5: going to do, which is.
- 21:22Speaker 6: Maybe the offense change or or having advantage and so
- 21:26Speaker 6: having a full week from hearing for Justin to start
- 21:29Speaker 6: having some things schemed up that it's not you know,
- 21:31Speaker 6: a last couple of day adjustment kind of like I said.
- 21:34Speaker 5: Earlier, just all the guys coming together, you know, to
- 21:37Speaker 5: make the plan go to make the plays. Go because
- 21:40Speaker 5: we really had more time or before week went then
- 21:43Speaker 5: we have this. So I just feel like, you know,
- 21:46Speaker 5: making the plays go.
- 21:47Speaker 6: I feel like you guys as an offense got settled
- 21:49Speaker 6: in more as the game went on that he was
- 21:51Speaker 6: able to take some of those deeper shots to year.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Later on the man.
- 21:54Speaker 5: For sure at QB's for sure especially. I probably say
- 21:56Speaker 5: that position all around the world unless they get in
- 21:58Speaker 5: a groove. They warmed up their arms, they warmed up,
- 22:02Speaker 5: they started getting the group at the game.
- 22:03Speaker 3: So yeah, for sure.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Rolling on on this week's edition of the Our Year's Podcast,
- 22:08Speaker 1: getting ready for Week two of the season, the Stagers
- 22:10Speaker 1: against the Broncos in Colorado. The game is on NFL
- 22:13Speaker 1: game Pass on the zone where we're going to make
- 22:15Speaker 1: our picks, and I'll start off short and straight. I
- 22:19Speaker 1: watched both games as we get watched, obviously having the
- 22:22Speaker 1: luxury of the Bronco Seahawks game, Jimmy and the late window.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I expected a lot more from Bonnicks, and I expected
- 22:28Speaker 1: a lot more from that Broncos offense. And they have
- 22:30Speaker 1: lost a lot of guys, and there's a lot of
- 22:31Speaker 1: different situations there, especially in terms of Adre g Estime,
- 22:36Speaker 1: who I know we both met when he was playing
- 22:37Speaker 1: for Another Day in Dublin a few years back or
- 22:40Speaker 1: last year. Sorry, But more so, they've got a lot
- 22:43Speaker 1: of key guys on that offense up front, and I
- 22:46Speaker 1: thought that they would honestly win the game. I thought
- 22:48Speaker 1: Bonicks would have impressed more. They didn't. So it's one
- 22:51Speaker 1: of two things. Like I said a second ago, do
- 22:52Speaker 1: we see a Broncos team that historically has maybe croaked
- 22:56Speaker 1: a little bit the pressure, or do we see a
- 22:58Speaker 1: Bronco scene that goes out and puts everyham on the line.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I think the Steelers defense stifles the Broncos offense in
- 23:04Speaker 1: the first half of this game, and I do think
- 23:07Speaker 1: this is the week we do get a few touchdowns.
- 23:08Speaker 1: But what I will say is I'm not complaining if
- 23:11Speaker 1: it's a sixty yards sixty five yard field goal with
- 23:13Speaker 1: that elevation and altitude with guys that we have, So
- 23:16Speaker 1: I certainly think Chris Bolswalkan had a sixty five seventy
- 23:18Speaker 1: this week. If needs be in Denver, sixty five seventy yards,
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'll take the Steelers to win by field goals twenty
- 23:24Speaker 1: one to eighteen. Jimmy, have you got one?
- 23:27Speaker 2: You know I believe black and Gold, Mick, and given
- 23:32Speaker 2: what we've just discussed with regards to bow knicks and
- 23:35Speaker 2: the number one defense by a mile in the NFL.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Right now, I am going Steelers seventeen Broncos ten. I
- 23:44Speaker 2: think they are going to score a touchdown, but I
- 23:46Speaker 2: think it's going to come on the ground. I think
- 23:49Speaker 2: we are we are going to get points and I
- 23:52Speaker 2: think we I think we. I think we win this
- 23:54Speaker 2: one and then we go into We got back home
- 23:58Speaker 2: to Pittsburgh and to take on the Charge, who have
- 24:00Speaker 2: been a historically been a draft team for us. So
- 24:02Speaker 2: I think we're getting a win. This weekend is crucial.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Who shall have a capital see one percent going to
- 24:08Speaker 1: and oh dialogue on this season would be huge for
- 24:10Speaker 1: a Steelers team that you know wants to progress this year.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Big game in Denver. Who gets the win?
- 24:17Speaker 3: Yeah, massive gime, massive game. I think I originally give
- 24:21Speaker 3: this as a loss in the preseason, the preseason preview,
- 24:24Speaker 3: but I'm about to turn that on. I watched Brownecks
- 24:27Speaker 3: in Week one. I didn't see a lot of special
- 24:30Speaker 3: and I think our defense is way too good to
- 24:32Speaker 3: sort of sit back and let them let let him
- 24:34Speaker 3: do what he wants, So I'm going to cap it
- 24:36Speaker 3: off a hatrick and going twenty to seventeen. As I say,
- 24:39Speaker 3: I want to see less of the special teams. The
- 24:41Speaker 3: only time I want to see special teams this weekend
- 24:43Speaker 3: is when we're checking that pat But if not, I
- 24:46Speaker 3: would expect that elevation, Chris Boswell should be prying to
- 24:48Speaker 3: right ahead, you know, close to seven yards. So I
- 24:51Speaker 3: think the bookies have made us favorites for this one
- 24:53Speaker 3: two and a half points, and I think they're never
- 24:55Speaker 3: far wrong. So I'm gonna go with three point factory
- 24:57Speaker 3: twenty to seventeen. And as I always say, you can
- 24:59Speaker 3: take that to the bank, you can take that.
- 25:02Speaker 1: You should tm that made at some point.
- 25:03Speaker 2: That's the second time in two days I i've heard
- 25:05Speaker 2: him say that.
- 25:06Speaker 1: You can take that to the bank. I wait until
- 25:11Speaker 1: we played the Jaguars and then we can really get
- 25:12Speaker 1: that pick away from almost we will see the crack.
- 25:15Speaker 1: As I said previously, Steelers playing the Brogras this weekend
- 25:18Speaker 1: in the later window for US NFL game pass on
- 25:20Speaker 1: the zone if you're in Ireland or across Europe OTV
- 25:23Speaker 1: Sports Radio. Once this game is over this week, we
- 25:25Speaker 1: have one more game until I watch party in Dublin.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Do check out the link in the bio if you'd
- 25:30Speaker 1: like to get some end Zone tickets, and myself, Jimmy
- 25:33Speaker 1: Davog and everybody will see you down there for that
- 25:35Speaker 1: in a couple of weeks. For now, beginning this weekend,
- 25:37Speaker 1: here we go. Lads, have a great one.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Here we go.
