- 0:00Speaker 1: Katie, why do you look so surprised all the time.
- 0:02Speaker 1: It's one more thing, I'm strong Andy, One more thing
- 0:08Speaker 1: before we get to that. Joe wasn't on the radio
- 0:12Speaker 1: show yesterday because he's a druid and he had all
- 0:14Speaker 1: kinds of religious ceremonies he had to participate in for
- 0:18Speaker 1: the total eclipse, and but he's back today having sacrificed
- 0:22Speaker 1: a number of virgins into a volcano. I didn't know
- 0:24Speaker 1: why you still did that.
- 0:25Speaker 2: I give thanks to Mother Earth, Father Moon, Uncle Sun,
- 0:31Speaker 2: and all of the beasts in the forests. Here's to you.
- 0:34Speaker 1: But since you weren't on the show, you didn't hear
- 0:35Speaker 1: us talking about this yesterday. I just wanted to know
- 0:37Speaker 1: if you knew anything about this. The Wall Street Journal article.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Time to start typing like a grown up.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I was.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I was kind of aware of this, but not really
- 0:44Speaker 1: aware of it. That for like the under thirty crowd,
- 0:48Speaker 1: using capital letters is really a sign that you're like old.
- 0:54Speaker 1: So you take the time to uncapitalize the first word
- 0:57Speaker 1: in every sentence because your iPhone probably capital for you,
- 1:00Speaker 1: but you go back and uncapitalize it because you're so droll,
- 1:04Speaker 1: You're so disaffected and uninterested in everything in life, all
- 1:08Speaker 1: of your texts have no capital letters.
- 1:11Speaker 2: You're not going to be controlled by big.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Letter, right, and the Wall Street Journal pointing out that
- 1:16Speaker 1: people acknowledge that capitalizing letters is a rite of passage.
- 1:19Speaker 1: There are holdouts who don't want to do it, but
- 1:23Speaker 1: it's basically saying, if you want to get a job
- 1:25Speaker 1: at a company, you need to start using capital letters.
- 1:28Speaker 1: And people really resist it because that's like what mom
- 1:31Speaker 1: and grandma do. I don't want to use capital letters.
- 1:34Speaker 2: If you were to at this moment chuckle and say
- 1:38Speaker 2: I just made all that up, I'd say, oh, okay, oh,
- 1:41Speaker 2: because this is so strange.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And by my niece, my oldest niece's twenty five, I
- 1:49Speaker 1: noticed when she texts, she never has capital letters in
- 1:51Speaker 1: any of her texts. So, hmm, that's the thing. So
- 1:55Speaker 1: if you're if the if you come across that, that's
- 1:57Speaker 1: what's going on there. It's a symbol. It's just a
- 1:59Speaker 1: way to divide yourself from grown ups, which has always
- 2:04Speaker 1: been important for younger people like fully understand that.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Let's see, now, no periods. I've gotten used to uh huh.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I'm going back with my youngest kids text string and
- 2:16Speaker 2: definitely got all the proper capitals, but never a period
- 2:20Speaker 2: at the end of the last sentence.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yeah, punctuation is out too.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I'm just surprised there's an exclamation point.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I'm just surprised because it seems like so much work
- 2:29Speaker 1: to have to like shift away from the capital that
- 2:32Speaker 1: it starts for you on purpose.
- 2:34Speaker 3: But oh yes, it's to go back to delete and
- 2:36Speaker 3: then retype.
- 2:37Speaker 1: That's yeah, a lot of work just to make sure
- 2:40Speaker 1: you don't look old. But anyway, so there's that and Katie.
- 2:44Speaker 1: The why do you look so surprised? Katie is a
- 2:46Speaker 1: joke about her new eyebrow tattoos, which she mentioned during
- 2:50Speaker 1: the show. So I don't know anything about eyebrow tattoos.
- 2:53Speaker 1: You're going to get them today. Is this a common thing?
- 2:56Speaker 1: Why do you do it? What does it cost? I
- 2:58Speaker 1: need all the ins and outs it is.
- 3:00Speaker 4: It is relatively common. There's a few different ways you
- 3:03Speaker 4: can have it done. You can have them tattooed. There's
- 3:04Speaker 4: something called micro blading, which is similar to tattooing.
- 3:09Speaker 3: And so I'm doing the tattooing today.
- 3:12Speaker 1: So you mentioned that one of the reasons you want
- 3:14Speaker 1: to do it is so you don't have to tattoo
- 3:16Speaker 1: yourself every day before you come to work. Those those
- 3:18Speaker 1: eyebrows I'm looking at right now aren't real.
- 3:20Speaker 4: They they're I mean, I have eyebrows, but I need
- 3:23Speaker 4: to fill them in regularly, and they they don't line
- 3:26Speaker 4: up properly and it drives me nuts. So yeah, I
- 3:29Speaker 4: draw them on every day at three o'clock in the morning.
- 3:32Speaker 1: They don't line up properly.
- 3:33Speaker 3: No, they don't. One like starts farther back than the
- 3:36Speaker 3: other and it just dies. I'm so sick of it.
- 3:39Speaker 2: You're a monster. I can hardly look at you. Uh
- 3:41Speaker 2: huh wow.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Bridge troll.
- 3:44Speaker 1: But eyebrowser eyebrows are hair, So isn't it gonna look
- 3:48Speaker 1: like Groucho Marx's mustache?
- 3:50Speaker 4: No, So they they do the tattooing and microblading in
- 3:53Speaker 4: hair strokes, so it's it's a very fine needle and
- 3:57Speaker 4: they go in and they actually make it look like hair.
- 3:59Speaker 3: So it'll look somewhat natural.
- 4:01Speaker 4: But the healing process is going to be hilarious.
- 4:05Speaker 2: So are you going to be wearing like big Yoko
- 4:07Speaker 2: Ono sunglasses tomorrow or what?
- 4:09Speaker 3: I was debating a hat?
- 4:10Speaker 4: But I'm not too sure how close I can get
- 4:12Speaker 4: to So I might just have to let you guys
- 4:15Speaker 4: stare at them.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Look at your open wounds. Yeah, yeah, losing open wounds
- 4:19Speaker 1: above your eyes.
- 4:20Speaker 3: I'm so excited about this.
- 4:22Speaker 4: I know it's it's probably sounds insane to you guys,
- 4:24Speaker 4: but the process of drawing them on and messing them
- 4:28Speaker 4: up and having to go back and redo them, it's
- 4:30Speaker 4: just at thirty five, I don't know how to draw
- 4:33Speaker 4: my eyebrows on.
- 4:34Speaker 3: So this is going to be a huge timesaver.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yeah, well, where do you get that? Will they move
- 4:39Speaker 1: with your face like s you can look surprised, or.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Well it's on her skin your nine.
- 4:43Speaker 4: No, they're like floating, so they stay while the rest
- 4:47Speaker 4: of my face is animated.
- 4:48Speaker 2: It's like a filter on Google mets. Ah See. I've
- 4:53Speaker 2: never been a party girl, so all of this is
- 4:55Speaker 2: to me like, you know, like a tribe in the
- 4:59Speaker 2: Amazon that's had no contact with the modern worlds. Your
- 5:01Speaker 2: ways are foreign to me.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Well, not problems you guys would have. No, No, you
- 5:08Speaker 3: guys both have great eyebrows.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Well I'm I am someone.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Who's started a mediocre at best, started.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Dyeing his goateee now and then, so I understand the
- 5:16Speaker 1: need to uh do something to your face. What is
- 5:19Speaker 1: this going to cost you?
- 5:21Speaker 3: It's five hundred dollars.
- 5:22Speaker 2: WHOA.
- 5:22Speaker 1: But it's permanent.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 5:24Speaker 4: It's permanent, which I mean, if you think about it,
- 5:26Speaker 4: if you get a tattoo, like a really good one,
- 5:28Speaker 4: you're getting up in that range especially, you know, and
- 5:31Speaker 4: this is the permanent makeup. So I mean, people get
- 5:34Speaker 4: their their eye liner done, which I can't do. People
- 5:37Speaker 4: get their lipliner. My mom did her eyeliner and her
- 5:39Speaker 4: lip liner. I have no idea how she let a
- 5:41Speaker 4: needle that close to her eyeball.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Yeah. I know some people that have done those, and
- 5:45Speaker 1: I don't dig it. So maybe there's probably, like everything else,
- 5:51Speaker 1: there's getting a really good version of it done and
- 5:54Speaker 1: not as good version depending on price. I don't know,
- 5:57Speaker 1: but I've known some people that did the permanent eye
- 6:00Speaker 1: eyeliner thing, and you just you look a little like
- 6:02Speaker 1: a raccoon.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Uh, it depends. You can always add more, you can't
- 6:10Speaker 2: go full. I'm Courtney Love at a nightclub to start,
- 6:15Speaker 2: I think, right, But.
- 6:18Speaker 4: I am taking a risk because I mean I'm praying
- 6:21Speaker 4: to all that is holy that it doesn't get done,
- 6:23Speaker 4: and I'd hate it.
- 6:25Speaker 1: The eyebrow makes more sense to me than the eyes
- 6:27Speaker 1: or the lips.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Actually, oh yeah, unless some sort of shaven headed look
- 6:34Speaker 2: becomes super hot in the future. I mean women shave
- 6:37Speaker 2: their eyebrows, shave their heads stisty.
- 6:40Speaker 1: You don't notice what eyebrows do for your look until
- 6:44Speaker 1: you don't have them. When I was doing chemotherapy and
- 6:45Speaker 1: I lost all my hair and my eyebrows went away,
- 6:47Speaker 1: it's it makes you look weird.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Yeah, and people are shaving them off right now as
- 6:52Speaker 4: like a trend. I yeah, there's a girl I follow
- 6:55Speaker 4: on Instagram who shaves her eyebrows off, only to draw
- 6:58Speaker 4: them back on every day because she doesn't like how
- 7:00Speaker 4: they're placed.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Oh so she wants me in a different place.
- 7:04Speaker 3: This is real life, guys.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Do we know why human beings have eyebrows?
- 7:11Speaker 2: I think it's just part of the whole keeping stuff
- 7:13Speaker 2: out of your eyes, you know, multiple layers of protection.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I think it may be partly just to catch stuff
- 7:22Speaker 2: that would fall in your eyes, and partly for sensory reasons,
- 7:26Speaker 2: because where you have hair, anything that touches it, even
- 7:31Speaker 2: though it hasn't got your actual skin yet, you become aware.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Of animals kind of have eyebrows. You can feel them,
- 7:38Speaker 1: like on a dog or whatever.
- 7:39Speaker 4: The Google is telling me that eyebrows help protect our
- 7:42Speaker 4: eyes from bright light.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Couple advisors, you gotta have a pretty heavy brow for
- 7:48Speaker 1: that to work.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Damn.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Cavemany quick question, Katie, So if you do not like these,
- 7:54Speaker 1: is there a way to get them removed at all?
- 7:56Speaker 1: Or is it permanent? No matter what?
- 7:58Speaker 4: Well, I mean, there's a there's touch removal, but no,
- 8:01Speaker 4: I'm pretty much screwed if I don't like.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Do you have to choose a color?
- 8:06Speaker 3: Yeah? So, and the woman who does this is fantastic.
- 8:10Speaker 4: I've seen a lot of her work, so I'm very
- 8:12Speaker 4: excited about this. But she's gonna go in look at
- 8:14Speaker 4: the color of my natural hair and do all of
- 8:17Speaker 4: that stuff that I don't know how to do and
- 8:18Speaker 4: line them up and.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Well, I wouldn't normally ask this, but is that your
- 8:21Speaker 1: natural hair color that we see every day? Yeah?
- 8:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm like a dirtyish blonde.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Oh okay, So a lot of women have to spend
- 8:28Speaker 1: a lot of money to get their hair the color
- 8:29Speaker 1: your hair is naturally, that's handy. Yeah, okay, then you
- 8:32Speaker 1: get your eyebrows to match. I got it.
- 8:35Speaker 2: And if you hate the look, you can just start
- 8:36Speaker 2: wearing a sweatband, a headband like John McEnroe in the
- 8:41Speaker 2: nineteen seventies, which is my third count third out of
- 8:45Speaker 2: date cultural reference this podcast. Thanks for coming.
- 8:49Speaker 1: So now we are in the uncomfortable position since we
- 8:53Speaker 1: know you're getting this done, that we have to tomorrow
- 8:56Speaker 1: say oh it looks great.
- 8:58Speaker 3: No you don't.
- 8:58Speaker 4: I don't want that. If it doesn't work, I need
- 9:01Speaker 4: to know, so, oh.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Please not gonna be me. Besides, you know, a couple
- 9:07Speaker 2: of my kids have a handful of tattoos, and so
- 9:10Speaker 2: I know it takes a while before it looks good.
- 9:13Speaker 2: There's the whole healing process. Although with that microfid needle
- 9:16Speaker 2: you're talking about, it might be different. So I'm expecting
- 9:19Speaker 2: you to look like a boxer who had a rough night.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:22Speaker 4: They said that there can be bruising and that it
- 9:25Speaker 4: takes about ten days for it to look how it's
- 9:28Speaker 4: going to look. So this is going to be a
- 9:30Speaker 4: journey we're taking together.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Is this gonna is gonna have to have a card
- 9:34Speaker 2: to hand out? No, there's no domestic violence.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Right, no kidding? Have they told you?
- 9:39Speaker 3: Is this gonna hurt more than a regular tattoo. I've
- 9:42Speaker 3: been told it's painless.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Apparently she puts this lydakane cream over them and then
- 9:46Speaker 4: lets it sit for a while and does it mind.
- 9:48Speaker 4: My mom had it done and said that she didn't
- 9:49Speaker 4: feel a thing, So I don't know if that's my
- 9:52Speaker 4: sweet mother trying to comfort me or if it actually
- 9:55Speaker 4: is painless.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Are you a piercing's person?
- 9:57Speaker 3: M Yeah, I have tattoos and piercings.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Okay, so this is not unfamiliar to you this sort
- 10:02Speaker 1: of time.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I'm thinking of getting a hairline tattooed like in roughly
- 10:06Speaker 2: the color of my hair as it is now, kind
- 10:09Speaker 2: of salt and pepper, but like the Eddie Munster, the
- 10:14Speaker 2: low like almost chimp like hairline.
- 10:17Speaker 3: I'm gonna give you a hard no on that, Joe,
- 10:19Speaker 3: don't do that.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Could I get my bald head like tattooed to make
- 10:23Speaker 1: it look like there's hair?
- 10:25Speaker 3: That is a thing that people are doing. Yes, Oh,
- 10:27Speaker 3: I have seen that.
- 10:28Speaker 4: There is actually a business that just opened up in
- 10:31Speaker 4: my old hometown that specializes in that procedure where guys
- 10:34Speaker 4: are going in and having little black or whatever dots
- 10:38Speaker 4: done all over their head to make it look like
- 10:40Speaker 4: just a little bit of hair growth like a shadow.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I might do that.
- 10:45Speaker 3: That is doable.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I could see doing that.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Do that dire goatee.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Yeah, just knowing you, you'll like, read the first paragraph
- 10:54Speaker 2: of an article about it, then try to do it yourself.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Problem and the money, I'll lend you the money. Yeah,
- 11:00Speaker 2: what color hair?
- 11:01Speaker 1: Jack? Would you?
- 11:01Speaker 2: Would you be a redhead?
- 11:02Speaker 1: Or would you?
- 11:04Speaker 2: Oh?
- 11:06Speaker 1: I don't remember what color my hair was.
- 11:09Speaker 4: You can get the pattern. You can just get a
- 11:10Speaker 4: stripe down the middle so it looks like a little mohawk.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Well, okay, well, we look forward to seeing how this
- 11:16Speaker 1: turns out tomorrow. Maybe we'll post pictures at the website.
- 11:19Speaker 3: And that's why.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Let people comment. That's always a good idea.
- 11:22Speaker 3: You could take a pole. Do these look like shit? Well,
- 11:29Speaker 3: good luck, Katie. I guess that's it.
