- Lucas: Luna, we are back at the sweet shop for episode two hundred. Luna: Two hundred episodes, Lucas. That is a lot of Telugu. Lucas: It is. And today, we are going to get a little more specific with our sweet ordering. Luna: Oh, I love that. Last time we did mysore pak and laddu. What else is there? Lucas: Well, let's start with something sweet and a little different. Let's learn how to ask for a specific kind of laddu. Luna: Okay. I am ready. Lucas: In Telugu, to say 'I want one jaggery laddu', you say 'నాకు ఒక చిరుతపులి లడ్డు కావాలి'. Luna: నాకు ఒక చిరుతపులి లడ్డు కావాలి. That is a mouthful. What does 'చిరుతపులి' mean? Lucas: 'చిరుతపులి' means jaggery. So it is a jaggery laddu, a sweet made with jaggery instead of sugar. Luna: Oh, that sounds delicious. Let me try it again. నాకు ఒక చిరుతపులి లడ్డు కావాలి. Lucas: Perfect. You said it very clearly. Now, what if you are curious about a sweet you do not recognize? You can ask 'ఇది ఏమిటి?' which means 'What is this?' Luna: ఇది ఏమిటి? That is useful. I am always pointing at things. But how do I know which word to use? Lucas: You just point at the sweet and ask 'ఇది ఏమిటి?' The shopkeeper will tell you the name and maybe what is in it. Luna: Got it. So if I see something round and orange, I say 'ఇది ఏమిటి?' and they say 'అది మోదకం.' Lucas: Exactly. You are catching on. Now, a fun question to ask at the sweet shop is 'ఇది ఇంట్లో చేస్తారా?' which means 'Is this made at home?' Luna: ఇది ఇంట్లో చేస్తారా? That is interesting. Are they made at home? Like homemade sweets? Lucas: Yes, many shops make sweets in-house. It is a good question to know. Let's practice it: 'ఇది ఇంట్లో చేస్తారా?' Luna: ఇది ఇంట్లో చేస్తారా? That sounds like a lot of rolling r's, but I think I got it. Lucas: You did. Now, if you want to buy a kilogram of sweets, you can say 'నాకు ఒక కేజీ కావాలి.' That means 'I want one kilogram.' Luna: నాకు ఒక కేజీ కావాలి. That is simple. But wait, I remember from the market episodes, we used 'ఒక కేజీ' before. Lucas: Yes, it is the same. Very useful for buying anything by weight. So let's put it all together. Luna: Okay, let's imagine I walk up to the counter and say: నాకు ఒక చిరుతపులి లడ్డు కావాలి. నాకు ఒక కేజీ కావాలి. Lucas: That is a great start. And if you see something you don't know, you ask 'ఇది ఏమిటి?' and then maybe 'ఇది ఇంట్లో చేస్తారా?' Luna: I love how practical this is. Before we go, Lucas, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Telugu, and you want to keep the show going, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: Yeah, it keeps us ad-free and lets us keep making these small lessons. But no pressure at all. Luna: And we are back to the sweet shop. So, Lucas, what if I want to ask for a specific amount, like just one piece? Lucas: Good question. You can say 'ఒక ముక్క ఇవ్వండి' which means 'Give me one piece.' Luna: Oh, that is handy. So, 'ఒక ముక్క ఇవ్వండి' for one piece, and 'నాకు ఒక కేజీ కావాలి' for a kilogram. Lucas: Right. And remember, you can always ask 'ఇది ఏమిటి?' when you are curious. That is the key phrase. Luna: This has been so sweet. I feel ready to order some jaggery laddu now. Let's practice one more time: నాకు ఒక చిరుతపులి లడ్డు కావాలి. Lucas: Wonderful. And if you want to sound extra polite, you can add 'దయచేసి' at the end, which means 'please'. So, 'నాకు ఒక చిరుతపులి లడ్డు కావాలి దయచేసి.' Luna: That is nice. I will definitely use that. Okay, I think we have a solid set of phrases for sweet shopping. Lucas: Yes. Let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: నాకు ఒక చిరుతపులి లడ్డు కావాలి. Luna: నాకు ఒక చిరుతపులి లడ్డు కావాలి. Lucas: ఇది ఏమిటి? Luna: ఇది ఏమిటి? Lucas: ఇది ఇంట్లో చేస్తారా? Luna: ఇది ఇంట్లో చేస్తారా? Lucas: నాకు ఒక కేజీ కావాలి. Luna: నాకు ఒక కేజీ కావాలి. Lucas: You did great, Luna. Now, we have a little homework for you, listener. Next time you are at a sweet shop, try using at least one of these phrases. Luna: Yes, and if you are not in India, you can still practice by asking about sweets at an Indian store. It is fun. Lucas: That is a great idea. Thanks for joining us for episode two hundred. See you next time. Luna: Bye for now, and happy sweet hunting.
